Westborough native Alexa Pano misses cut, but excited to return home for LPGA's FM Championship

The LPGA Tour announced last weekend that the FM Championship will return to TPC Boston in Norton next year and that the dates for the event will be revealed this fall.

It will be difficult to top the drama of the inaugural FM Championship last weekend. Haeran Ryu took a roller-coaster ride en route to capturing the title in a playoff against fellow South Korean Jin Young Ko .

Ryu followed an opening-round 69 with a career-best 10-under 62 to take a six-shot lead. Then she stumbled to a 78 to enter the final round four shots off Ko’s lead. She closed with a 64 to tie Ko at 15-under 273 and parred the first playoff hole to collect the first-place check of $570,000 in the $3.8 million event. FM has the largest purse on the LPGA Tour outside of the majors and tour championship.

Unfortunately, Westborough native Alexa Pano missed the cut by a shot.

Pano, who turned 20 on Aug. 20, spent her early years in Westboro before moving to Florida to work on her golf game. She returned to Central Mass. for several summers and practiced at Blissful Meadows GC in Uxbridge for three summers.

“I’m excited to have my family out this week and a lot of friends,” she said before the tournament began. “It’s just a really special area, so it’s going to be a great week.”

Unfortunately for her, she didn’t play well enough to make it to the weekend. She shot 72-75 for a total of 3-over 147. Her father, Rick , who grew up in Westborough and played at Westborough CC, caddied for her at TPC Boston.

Pano gave a plug to Uhlman’s Ice Cream in Westborough.

“It’s a little farm that has, I think, the best ice cream in the world,” she said.

Pano has earned $476,602 this season and ranks eighth in the Rolex rankings and 55rd in the CME Rankings.

She earned her only LPGA Tour victory on her 19th birthday in the 2023 ISPS Handa World Invitational.

Pano began to make a name for herself in golf at age 7 by starring in the Netflix documentary, “The Short Game.”

FM signed Megan Khang , who grew up in Rockland about 40 minutes from Norton, as an ambassador for the tournament. Khang finished tied for 35th, but she drew the largest crowds, especially when she played with Lexi Thompson on Saturday. Thompson has won 11 LPGA Tour events compared to Khang’s one, but the fans rooted for the Massachusetts native on Saturday.

“I joked with Lexi, ‘this might be the first time I hear my name louder than yours,’” Khang said. “She was so gracious. She was like, no, this is your crowd.”

Khang described the gallery as the largest she’s had this year and possibly during her entire career.

“It’s been really cool to have everyone out here, everyone knowing my name and hearing the chant, ‘Pride of Massachusetts,” she said.

Khang mentioned Pano, Shrewsbury native Brittany Altomare , who missed the event while she regains her strength after giving birth to her son Wyatt in March, and Alison Walshe of Westford as other LPGA Tour golfers from the Bay State.

“I really hope that Massachusetts produces a lot more women golfers or golfers in general,” Khang said.

When the PGA Tour played at TPC Boston, Khang played in two pro-ams, one with Camilo Villegas the other with Anthony Kim . She remembers finishing first among the four juniors each year.

Khang, 26, earned her only LPGA Tour victory so far in the CPKC Women’s Open in August 2023 when she defeated Jin Young Ko in a playoff.

Thompson, who tied for 15th, praised FM for holding a well run event. FM offered the players complimentary hotel accommodations, dining for players, caddies and guests, and provided $1,000 to those who missed the cut.

“It’s just little things like that,” she said. “Courtesy cars, just to show their appreciation for us and how they want to make the tournament one the best.”

Thompson said she’ll miss the fans, especially the little kids.

“To see the smile on their faces,” she said, “and on a bad day, they’re still saying, “Great playing, we look up to you.’ That’s what makes the difference. We're impacting these little kids and growing the game. That’s what it’s all about.”

The FM Championship was one of the top selling competitions of the 2024 season, with tickets purchased from fans from 31 states and five countries.

lpga tour events

The 2022 LPGA Tour schedule has been announced, with record prize money for the 34-event docket that means better playing opportunities across the board.

The most significant changes to the schedule are increases to purses in two majors and the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship.

Purse-boosted events

The biggest purse increases on the 2022 LPGA Tour schedule are in three majors, with the US Women's Open purse increasing to $10 million from $5.5 million. The Chevron Championship (formerly the ANA Inspiration) and the AIG Women's Open are seeing huge increases.

The season-ending CME Group Tour Championship purse is also increasing by $2 million to $7 million. The winner of the event will now earn $2 million, marking the biggest first-place prize in women's golf history.

Other tournaments to announce elevated purses are the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open ($2 million, up $500,000 from 2021), the LPGA Mediheal Championship ($1.8 million, up $300,000 from 2021), the Pelican Women’s Championship ($2 million, up $250,000 from 2021), the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational ($2.5 million, up $200,000 from 2021), the Meijer LPGA Classic ($2.5 million, up $200,000 from 2021) and the HSBC Women’s World Championship ($1.7 million, up $100,000 from 2021). Additional purse increases are expected to be announced throughout the season.

There are several new events on the schedule, with JTBC stepping up to increase their sponsor presence on the Tour. The JTBC Championship at Palos Verdes completes a California triple around The Chevron Championship. The Kroger Queen City Championship brings the LPGA to Cincinnati.

Getting Donald Ross to design a golf course in the 1920s was like getting The Rock to star in a film today. Ross could give a course instant legitimacy. But with Pelican, it’s not that simple.

At the end of the 19th century, Henry B. Plant purchased several railroads in the Southeast and saw a real estate opportunity in the St. Petersburg suburb of Belleair. Plant established the Belleview Hotel in 1897 and built a six-hole winter golf course. After his death in 1899, his son Morton took over, and in 1915, he brought in Ross to craft 36 holes at the previous site of the six-hole course. The two 18-hole courses now make up Belleair Country Club.

When Morton passed away in 1918, the Belleview Hotel was sold to John McEntee Bowman, founder of Bowman-Biltmore Hotels and the 36-hole Westchester Biltmore Country Club in 1922 (now Westchester Country Club). He asked Ross to return to Belleair to create an 18-hole course beside the Belleview-Biltmore Hotel. The course opened in 1925 and was at one point called Pelican Golf Club before being renamed Belleview Biltmore Golf Club.

For the next nine decades, Ross’ design operated as a public course. In 2009, the hotel closed its doors, and the conversation turned to the future of the course. The Town of Belleair, paying $3.5 million, won the rights to it in 2013. Four years later, Dan Doyle Sr. and Dan Doyle Jr., the father-son co-founders of Tampa’s DEX Imaging, bought it for $3.8 million.

The Doyles saw an opportunity to freshen up and revitalize an important piece of work. Beau Welling, a past associate of Tom Fazio, would do the redesign.

Welling found little on-site or in Donald Ross archives regarding the creator’s original 1925 vision. Welling chose to focus on restoring the course to “Golden Age” qualities, shaping the contours of the fairways and greens in ways that would have made sense to Ross.

“Donald Ross was known for having large greens with a lot of movement,” says Justin Sheehan, Pelican’s director of golf. “Although we have some small greens with a lot of movement, you talk to anybody, talk to the LPGA players, that's the thing with Pelican. It's pretty fair off the tee, but the defense is the size of the greens and the movement of the greens.”

Sheehan estimates 15 of the 18 holes resemble the original Ross routing. The staff like to say that with modern irrigation, new grass and other features, the course is “inspired” by Ross.

Welling also serves as a senior design consultant for TGR Design by Tiger Woods.

It’s a fixture on the LPGA Tour

Pelican Golf Club’s 2017 renovation did not dictate the future of the club. The future of the club, and its tournament aspirations, dictated the renovation of the course. “We met out here in a job trailer and it was just a mud pit,” Dan Doyle Jr. told Golfweek in 2020, recalling initial meetings with the LPGA. “There was nothing there. They took a big chance on us.”

The LPGA’s history in Tampa Bay dates to the first tournament of the inaugural LPGA season, the 1950 Tampa Open at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club. Ironically, it was won by amateur Polly Riley. The St. Petersburg Open would become Tampa Bay’s signature LPGA event, but after its final playing in 1989, there was no stand-alone LPGA event there for 30 seasons.

The Pelican Women’s Championship changed that with its arrival in 2020. Sei Young Kim won. Nelly Korda followed with back-to-back victories in 2021 and 2022.

“They wanted everybody to realize this is a club for everyone,” says Sheehan of the Doyle Family, which situated the women’s locker room in prime position, with a view overlooking the 18th hole. The men’s locker room, on the other hand, faces the parking lot.

‘The Lamborghini hole’ requires a steady nerve

Pelican Golf Club requires just one forced carry over water, but it’s a famous one. The par-3 12th hole is roughly 150 yards and demands a clean tee shot into a sideways Biarritz green.

In various ways, the hole takes inspiration from other iconic par 3s. With the left side of the green being slightly shorter and the right side being deceptively longer, its diagonal shape recalls the 12th hole at Augusta National. The layout on the ground, with players needing to walk all the way around the pond to get to the green, recalls No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass. And the atmosphere of the hole during the LPGA event, with grandstands surrounding the pin, could turn the hole into the LPGA’s version of No. 16 at TPC Scottsdale during the WM Phoenix Open.

No. 12 at Pelican Golf Club is also the Lamborghini hole. During the LPGA’s Pelican Women’s Championship, anyone who makes a hole-in-one gets the racy car. In 2021, three players – Austin Ernst, Pavarisa Yoktuan and Su Oh – all made aces and earned two-year Lamborghini Huracàn leases, courtesy of Morgan Auto Group, a luxury retailer based in Tampa.

No. 12 at Pelican became the first-ever LPGA Tour hole to get the featured hole treatment when it was given its own sole stream on Peacock for the 2021 event. For The Match, it will serve as No. 8, as the event routing will go 1-2-3-8-9-10-14-12-15-16-17-18.

This assures the hole will provide drama during the second half of the match.

The bright lights will be no problem

For a course constructed on the west coast of Florida, just a short walk from the beach, Pelican Golf Club has a surprising inland feel. A handful of holes have ponds, but spectators will not find themselves trudging through surprise creeks or swamps. This was a necessary part of Pelican’s bid to host “The Match” in primetime.

“The way the golf course is laid out, I would call it a parkland, especially the back nine,” says Sheehan. “It's pretty open. We have minimal rough, so it's got a really nice big open feel, which is why it's so good for a tournament. It's easier than most golf courses would be to put light trucks in place. We're not going through woods and marshes and tons of water.”

Now a membership course, Pelican sees 100-110 players on its busiest days, Sheehan says. It’s mostly a walking course, keeping the surface in prime condition. Woods, McIlroy, Thomas and Spieth will ride, however, especially with Woods battling plantar fasciitis.

Speaking of those four players, even with 133 PGA TOUR wins among them, they will not be immune to the challenges of Pelican thanks to the seeds planted by Ross.

“The trouble is really the second shot and onward, the ability to hit your approach shot on the correct section of the green,” Sheehan says. “There's ample room off the tee, and even the holes that have sort of trouble off the tee, it’s kind of fair on the other side of the fairway, for the most part, but starting from the second shot, some of the greens are pretty large with a lot of slope. There's a few that are smaller, and if you get on the wrong side, or even miss the green on the wrong side, then the up-and-down becomes incredibly challenging.”

Even more challenging: No. 14, which will play as No. 7 for this event, is usually a 520-yard par 5. Using a tee box on the 17th hole, positioned behind a pond, Pelican will add 90-100 yards to the hole, making it potentially difficult to reach the green in two.

Blue blazers abound

When the LPGA arrives at Pelican in 2023, it will do so with a new name: “The Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican.” Inspired in part by the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard in her adopted hometown of Orlando, Annika Sorenstam had been seeking a way to give back to the LPGA with her own signature event. In the Doyle Family, she found partners who share her vision for a premier LPGA Tour event that also makes a charitable impact, as a portion of proceeds will go toward the ANNIKA Foundation.

Still 11 months out, the 2023 Annika is set to make history. With a prize pot going up to $3.25 million, it could have the highest purse on the LPGA Tour outside of majors and the CME Group Tour Championship. This is no surprise to those who know the Doyle Family.

“What we'd love to turn this into is a tournament for the ladies that they come to every year,” Doyle Jr. told LPGA.com in 2021. “The only way I could equate it would be, you've got the Masters, and they play it in Augusta every year. We want this to be the women's version of the Masters. That would be, ‘Hey, we accomplished what we wanted.’”

Pelican does have an Augusta National connection. The club’s Albatross Steakhouse displays the 1975 U.S. Amateur trophy won by Fred Ridley, won edged Keith Fergus 2 up, at Country Club of Virginia. Ridley, the chairman of Augusta National Golf Club, is a commercial real estate lawyer in the Tampa Bay area and a member at Pelican.

Even before Pelican opened, Ridley was involved in everything from helping write the club’s by-laws to picking the course’s sand, crushed quartz from Arkansas. Pelican is also the first course to bring Latitude 36 Bermudagrass to the west coast of Florida. Furthering the Augusta National comparisons, Pelican members – men and women – can be found wearing distinctively blue blazers around the grounds during the Pelican Women’s Championship. Look out for the club’s signature hue in the crowd under the lights for “The Match.”

Brittany lincicome puts the first tee first in st. petersburg, share this article.

lpga tour events

[jwplayer rUlZAVne-9JtFt04J]

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – This story began with an out-of-the-blue text message from Brittany Lincicome. The two-time major winner wanted to know if she could get some exposure for her January event that benefits The First Tee of St. Petersburg.

“So I have no clue what you can do …” that first text began.

LPGA players are generally more accessible, more DIY than their male counterparts. Even so, it’s unusual for a top-tier player to reach out to the media directly with a pitch rather than an agent or PR agency.

But that’s Lincicome. She wasn’t looking to build up her image. Her motives were pure: Raise awareness and money for a junior program that has been a part of her life since elementary school. Heck, she even offered a place to stay. (Lincicome recently purchased a 5,200-square-foot home that overlooks Boca Ciega Bay for $1.83 million, so there’s plenty of room.)

Entering her 15th year on the LPGA, the 33-year-old Lincicome has won the past two season-opening tournaments.

And while Pure Silk moved its event away from Paradise Island, Bahamas – where Lincicome is twice a champion – the new season-opening Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions still will feel quite familiar. Lincicome warmed up for the LPGA season in recent years by competing against PGA Tour Champions players at the Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club Orlando, site of the TOC that runs Thursday-Sunday.

Lincicome can’t explain her January success.

She admittedly practiced more when she was younger, has no swing coach and tries to avoid the driving range.

“I’m so visual,” she said. “You go stand in an open field and hit golf balls. I don’t get it.”

Instead, it’s dollar birdie bets with her club’s assistant pro that keep her sharp. She’s currently down $8 and loathing it.

“I don’t want to lose to anybody,” she said, “and I don’t give anybody any strokes.” (In her defense, Lincicome said, she plays from the tips.)

Another way she starts every year right: giving back.

Short offseason this time

Lincicome’s offseason was short on the “off.” Her December calendar was so crammed we had to squeeze in our visit on the morning of the 15th, before she and her mom embarked on a four-hour-plus drive to Ponte Vedra, Fla., for Len Mattiace’s Pro-Junior Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

After initially missing the turn into Twin Brooks, a nine-hole course on the south side of St. Petersburg, the extra loop around the block helped paint a clearer picture of why this was so important to Lincicome. Golf, a luxury sport, must seem out of reach, even out of mind to those who literally live next door. The neighborhood’s dropout rate is 50 percent, said executive director Rick Waltman, and many kids who come to their program are being raised in single-parent homes. Many of those guardians are grandparents.

“It’s been raining for over 24 hours,” Lincicome texted, followed by two furiously orange emojis. She was desperate to show off The First Tee’s newest addition and the children who benefit from it.

They trickled in that morning, kids of all ages and races, and played games alongside Lincicome on the second floor of the program’s new $767,000 Manning Family Mentoring Center, named for a generous donor. Waltman led his guest outside to the back deck to explain what existed before 2018.

He pointed back toward the Twin Brooks clubhouse, where a small closet once housed their equipment. And then to a patch of grass on the practice range where they put up a tent.

“If it rained it was brutal,” Waltman said. “How are you going to manage 500 kids out of a tent?”

And if it didn’t rain, it was still brutal in the unrelenting summer heat.

Lincicome kickstarted the efforts for the two-story oasis with a check for $77,500, her winnings from the 2011 RR Donnelley Founders Cup. Her annual Brittany & Friends Celebrity Pro-Am, held this year Jan. 9, is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the St. Petersburg chapter. Growing up, Lincicome attended Waltman’s junior camps long before the program became a First Tee chapter in 2005.

Family sacrifice led to LPGA success

An eight-time winner on the LPGA, Lincicome knows how much her middle-class family sacrificed to get her on tour. And she knows the kinds of doors golf can open. Providing a place to learn for kids whose parents can’t afford it, Lincicome said, always has been the No. 1 goal.

“It’s always whatever you need,” Waltman said. “There’s never been an ‘I can’t do that.’ She’s the real deal.”

Thirty-five percent of the kids who come through their program are on scholarship, Waltman said. More than 1,000 kids come through the program’s three courses annually, not counting the outreach efforts at local schools. The ability to offer those discounts has changed the face of junior golf in St. Pete, he said.

“If you go back to the days when I was teaching the regular junior program (prior to The First Tee),” said Waltman, “there were no black kids in junior golf. Period. From 1994 to 2005 I can remember one kid, and that was Jim Dent’s son.”

It was around that time that Jonathan Lampley, known at the program as “Tiger,” walked in the door. Lampley was in the third grade when he first came to The First Tee. He balked at the idea initially.

“I said ‘Grandma, who plays golf?’ ” Lampley recalled.

He got hooked immediately, and the Boca Ciega High School junior is now among the county’s best players.

But it wasn’t always a smooth ride. There was a time when Lampley was failing the seventh grade. Even now Waltman feels badly about the fact that it wasn’t until the 11th hour that he realized the once-star student had fallen so far behind. When the principal called from Thurgood Marshall Fundamental, a rigorous academic school that sits across the street from Twin Brooks, Lampley was in dire straits.

“If he makes straight As for that last nine weeks will you pass him?” Waltman asked.

The principal agreed but said it wouldn’t happen.

Waltman set up two tutors, including his own son, who met daily with Lampley after school in a room next to the principal’s office. Nine weeks later he had a report card full of As and an educational path that was back on track.

Setting up a model for others to follow

His story isn’t unique.

Now Lampley is a model for younger kids to follow, when it comes to swing demonstrations and much more.

“I used to look up to those kids,” Lampley said. “Now they look up to me.”

A pint-sized Justice Heatwole, with her puffy pink vest, pastel pants and bright pink shoes, squatted down next to her putter (pink grip) to talk golf. Her father, Mark, stood quietly to the side taking it all in. The bartender at Pasadena Yacht and Country Club signed up his daughter for a camp at The First Tee at the urging of one of Pasadena’s members – Lincicome.

“This program is everything to us,” Mark said. “I’m a single father and have custody of my daughter. It’s just me and her. This past summer I saved up $500 for my 5-year-old daughter to come here for a couple weeks. They gave me all my money back the next day.”

Mark choked up at the gesture. Justice is now a member of the after-school program. She comes to the center to do her homework, makes projects in the new art studio and wins long-drive contests. Mark calls The First Tee a beacon for the community.

Fundraising efforts over the years have included poker tournaments, fishing tournaments, a breakfast of champions, a seafood festival. Many of the events are weather-dependent, and, well, asking for money doesn’t get any easier.

Waltman wanted the program to become more self-sufficient, and earlier this year The First Tee of St. Petersburg eBay golf shop launched. What began in the back of John Kiebzak’s car exploded with help in particular from residents of The Villages, a golf-centric Florida retirement community.

The first floor of the new building is brimming with possibilities. The “Donate a Club, Help a Kid” program not only outfits First Tee participants with equipment, it helps pay the bills.

Waltman and his team take their trailer to area clubs to collect equipment that can be cleaned up and sold for charity. The celebrities who participate in Lincicome’s event – who are not paid to be there – also donate clothes, clubs and shoes.

There are approximately 4,500 listings. Waltman said they’ve hired college students to help catalog and run the enterprise. The goal is to fund a $1 million endowment over the next 10 years to help support the program annually.

“‘Digging it out of the dirt’ is what we sometimes refer the eBay operation to,” said Waltman. “Taking a dirty old club and cleaning it up and putting a new grip on it and turning it into a few dollars. We are trying to teach the kids that hard work still works.”

Eight minutes down the road from Twin Brooks feels like another stratosphere pulling up to the guard gate. Lincicome basically purchased her Florida mansion while dashing to the first tee at a tournament in New Zealand. The realtor called while she was warming up to say that an offer was on the table. Do whatever it takes, said Lincicome, and signed the last document on the tee box.

Typical night? Publix and Uno

Lincicome doesn’t act differently now as the owner of an $1.83 million home than she did as a kid. Nights with her husband, Dewald Gouws, often include a run to Publix and a game of Uno.

“We’re like 80-year-old people already,” she joked.

Their new chocolate lab, Dexter, a surprise that was waiting for Lincicome when she returned from China last fall, provides lovable entertainment.

Dexter soon will join the couple several times a week on their 24-foot Sheaffer boat, christened “Taking Relief” by a Twitter follower.

Gouws, a native South African and former long-drive smasher, wasn’t much of a fisherman when they met. Now he’s on the boat more than his wife.

“I just want to catch Moby Dick,” said Lincicome, who once hooked a 350-pound goliath grouper. “I want to catch the biggest fish I can possibly get. My husband wants to catch dinner.”

The couple is trying to start a family. Lincicome used to think she’d retire before she had kids, but the way the tour is trending, she said it’s “hard to stop and walk away altogether.”

Plus, several of her peers are on the brink of balancing motherhood and tour life for the first time in 2019. She could follow.

For 30 years Lincicome’s parents have operated A Child’s Choice Day Care Center in Pinellas Park. Her mom, Angie, notes that Brittany remains big on naps because everyone in their lives naps from noon to 2 p.m.

Lincicome appreciates the value of a strong support system. The word “family” comes up often when coaches and participants talk about The First Tee.

Antonio Johnson, a gregarious 16-year-old who lives within walking distance of Twin Brooks, has been a part of the program for 10 years and works there in the summers. He marvels at the number of graduates who come back year after year to visit. Johnson credits First Tee coaches for helping him get into the Admiral Farragut Academy, one of only two Honor Naval Schools in the country.

When asked what he ultimately wants to do, Johnson smiled and said, “I want to be remembered for something. Something great.”

The students at The First Tee of St. Petersburg are receiving solid golf fundamentals. But that’s not why Lincicome reached out. It’s everything else that’s going on at this safe haven that’s worth repeating.

“All we’re really trying to do is give them a chance,” Waltman said. “Every kid deserves a chance.” Gwk

Golf Legend Sorenstam, Singer Adkins To Play Roles at St. Pete

By indycar | published: feb 23, 2023.

Annika Sorenstam

Annika Sorenstam, one of the greatest female golfers of all time, and multiplatinum entertainer and TV/film actor Trace Adkins each will participate in key roles on the pre-race grid of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding on Sunday, March 5 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Trace Adkins

During her 15-year Hall of Fame career, Sorenstam collected over 90 worldwide wins, including 72 on the LPGA tour and 10 major championships. She also won a record eight Rolex Player of the Year awards and is still the LPGA’s all-time money leader with over $22 million in earnings. Sorenstam remains closely connected to the greater Tampa Bay area as the host of the penultimate LPGA event of the season, The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican, held at Pelican Golf Club in November.

“I’m excited to be the grand marshal of the first INDYCAR race of the year in St. Petersburg to help kick off both the racing season and Women’s History Month,” Sorenstam said. “For my entire life, golf has been a vehicle that’s helped shape me on and off the course. I can’t wait to see the cars speed around a different type of course through downtown St. Pete!”

Adkins has sold over 11 million albums, charted 40 singles on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart, and earned numerous awards and multiple Grammy nominations. His songs have been streamed over 2 billion times since his debut in 1996. A Grand Ole Opry member for nearly two decades, Adkins also known for notable roles as an actor in film and television, including voice-overs for Firestone commercials. Adkins recently set out for his headline “Somewhere in America 2023 Tour,” which spans coast-to-coast throughout this year.

“It is always a distinct honor to perform our national anthem at any event, but it’s an extra thrill to kick off the start of the Firestone Grand Prix,” Adkins said. “As a longtime auto racing fan, I look forward to attending the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.”

Tickets are still available for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding at gpstpete.com .
