Six Reasons Why Going To Gigs Alone Is The Best

So you want to go see that metalcore band you love but none of your friends like that “shouty” music? Or you REALLY want to go check out that new artist on TikTok you discovered but all your mates won’t go to a gig where they only know one song? Or worse, your group of friends cannot get themselves organized and work out which show and when to go on a tour, so you’re worried you’ll miss out on tickets. Let them be miserable and start living your best life by going to concerts by yourself. Trust us, it’ll be the best thing you’ll ever do!

Going to gigs alone can be daunting. What am I going to do with myself in between sets? Are people going to think I’m weird? Why would I not want to share the experience?

Listen, we are all for sharing the experience, but sometimes it’s either missing out or going alone, and in those cases we definitely recommend going alone. Here’s a few reasons why you’ll never regret it once you build up the courage to go through with it.

1 . See artists you really REALLY want to see

Imagine the FOMO of missing your favourite band on their new tour, hearing all those new songs live, seeing everyone post about it. Don’t let that happen, and get that ticket. Plus you then get to tell the pals who didn’t want to come how you saw that band or artist before they blew up or how they played that one B-side track that everyone loves – now who has FOMO?

2. Meet new friends

It’s no secret that music brings people together. That moment when everyone’s favourite ballad hits and there’s not a dry eye in the building, you turn to your left or right and suddenly you bond with a stranger over your favourite song. For the metalheads, we also recommend mosh pits, follow the rules of the pit but what a way to make new friends!

3. The freedom

Now hear us out – but going to a gig alone means you can get to the venue when you want, you can go to the loos when you want, you can stand in line at the merch for hours and no one will ask if you’re sure you want to wait. And no one will drag you home when you want to wait after the show has finished and find every piece of confetti or ask for the setlist.

4 . It’s a cult

You are not alone in going to gigs by yourself, you’d probably be surprised by how many people do the same thing. Some fan groups even have entire sub cultures of going to gigs alone (shoutout to Frank Turner’s solo armada, we see you!) – bringing us back to reason #2, new friends.

5. Confidence boost

Going to a gig by yourself will do wonders for your confidence. Sure the first time might feel a bit awkward and weird, but isn’t it always? Remember your first day of school? And then it was kind of okay after a while (let’s ignore our teenage years…) Once you’ve done it and experience all of the divinity of a solo gig you’ll feel free as a bird.

6. Experience the music your way

Whether you love hanging out by the bar, need to be front row, prefer seats or want to leave a bit earlier to catch the last train – the world is your oyster! The experience is yours, you don’t need to coordinate with someone else, rely on them to enjoy the show as much as you are and have as much of a good time as you are. And frankly, if you took a chance on a new genre or new artist and it isn’t your vibe, you can just go home. Glorious.

So there you have it – doesn’t sound too bad now does it?! At the end of the day it all comes down to you and your artist, a concert will always be a shared experience whether with strangers or friends. The most important thing to do is have fun.

Your next gig awaits

It all starts here.

Create memories to last a lifetime

Whether it’s your favourite band, an evening with friends, discovering new artists or the seventh show on the tour, we are your go-to home for all things live music.

Don’t miss out on the biggest announcement and keep checking back for latest news and last chance tickets.

THE THE

The Ensouled World Tour (which commences after Ensoulment is released on 6th September) will not have a support act, but instead be comprised of two sets, with an intermission in between.

Set one will be the new album, ensoulment , in its entirety. set two will be a retrospective set of the the classics*.

* Our concert in Dublin is the only date listed below where we DO have a support act, the brilliant A Lazarus Soul ! As such, we will be performing a single set rather than two but one that features songs from the new album rather than the new album in entirety.

Please see below a complete list of all tickets now available to purchase.

In the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, we have once again partnered with Twickets so that you can buy / sell spare tickets at the price they were meant to be sold for, protecting both buyers and sellers from fraud and overpricing. So if a show is SOLD OUT and you are looking for tickets, or if you can no longer attend one of our concerts, see our official Twickets page HERE .

In the USA and Canada, we also want to give our supporters, not scalpers, the best chance to buy tickets at face value. To help achieve this, the tour will be using Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange  where, if needed, you can resell your ticket to other fans at the original price paid. To help protect the Exchange, THE THE has also chosen to make tickets for this tour mobile only and restricted from transfer.* Please note, a valid bank account or debit card within the country of your event is required to sell on the Face Value Exchange.

*New York, Illinois, Colorado, Virginia and Connecticut have passed state laws requiring unlimited ticket resale and limiting artists’ ability to determine how their tickets are resold. To adhere to local law, tickets in these states will not be restricted from transfer but the artist encourages fans to use the Face Value Exchange.

Journey Abruptly Cancels Upcoming UK Tour Amidst Legal Issues

Em Casalena

Updated:

Journey is having a rough go of it at the moment, and UK fans might be a bit disappointed.

According to recent reports , the “Don’t Stop Believin’” hitmakers have no choice but to back out of their upcoming United Kingdom and Ireland tour. The canceled upcoming trek was meant to be another leg of Journey’s 50th-anniversary tour. All of the dates for the UK and Ireland leg of the tour have since been labeled as “canceled” on Journey’s Ticketmaster page. A number of venues have also announced the cancellation of the tour.

Videos by American Songwriter

Ticketholders are already receiving emails announcing that the tour is done for good. If you purchased tickets to see Journey in the UK and Ireland this year, we recommend checking your email. Refunds will be made “from your point of purchase” according to the band’s management.

North American tour dates are expected to continue as planned, pending any potential upcoming announcements.

Why Did Journey Cancel Their UK/Ireland Tour?

To put it simply, two current members of Journey are butting heads over finances. And it’s getting so severe that the movers and shakers behind their concerts are allegedly not getting paid for their work.

Journey’s keyboardist and guitarist Jonathan Cain, and the band’s co-founder Neal Schon, are apparently dealing with a major legal issue. The legal issue is tied to a 2022 suit that involved a band credit card.

Allegedly, Cain is suing Schon for maxing out the band’s American Express account with a whopping $1 million limit . According to his suit, Schon has allegedly spent upwards of $10,000 per night.

[Get Tickets To See Journey On Tour In North America]

The overuse of band funds has apparently caused chaos on Journey’s current tour. Crew members and the production company that works with the band have not been paid for their work, causing a rift between the band and the music industry that is negatively “impacting the band’s reputation”.

The legal battles between Cain and Schon have been going on since around 2020 , though it seemed like most of those issues were resolved in recent years.

It’s surprising to hear how bad the internal dynamics and overspending in the band have gotten. Fans have noted online that Journey has been killer on stage throughout their 50th Anniversary Tour. Hopefully, a resolution will happen that doesn’t result in the band dissolving.

Journey cancel 2024 UK and Ireland 50th anniversary tour

The group are currently on the road in the US

Journey have cancelled their UK and Ireland 50th anniversary arena tour – you can find all the details below.

The ‘Don’t Stop Believin” band had been due to embark on their ‘Freedom Tour’ this autumn with special guests  Cheap Trick .

Tickets for the run of gigs – which included a stop at The O2 in London – went on sale back in March. Now, it has been confirmed in a brief statement that the 11-date trek has been axed.

“Due to circumstances beyond the band’s control, Journey’s UK and Ireland tour is unfortunately cancelled,” the message reads (via Radio X ). “Refunds will be made from your point of purchase.”

Journey have not yet announced the news on their official social media accounts. However, the shows have been listed as cancelled on Ticketmaster . Their planned London concert has also been removed from The O2’s website .

The scrapped UK and Ireland leg would have followed Journey’s current run of North American stadium shows with Def Leppard , which is set to conclude early next month.

Journey’s cancelled UK and Ireland tour dates are:

OCTOBER 30 – Utilita Arena, Cardiff 31 – Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham

NOVEMBER 02 – OVO Hydro, Glasgow 04 – SSE Arena, Belfast 05 – 3Arena, Dublin 08 – AO Arena, Manchester  09 – First Direct Arena, Leeds 11 – M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool 13 – Utilita Arena, Birmingham 16 – Utilita Arena, Newcastle 17 – The O2, London

The cancellation comes shortly after Journey keyboardist and rhythm guitarist Jonathan Cain reportedly filed a new lawsuit against bandmate Neal Schon while on tour in the US.

According to Bloomberg Law , the suit was filed on the grounds of frustrations over Schon’s “expenses related to the tour”, including “budgeting and spending” of the band’s credit card over personal expenses.

Upon the UK and Ireland tour being announced in February, lead guitarist Schon said: “It’s been too long since we’ve seen you all!

“We are all very excited to be coming back to the UK and playing with our good friends Cheap Trick, who I’ve known and played with since the ’70s. It’s going to be a great party for all!”

‘Don’t Stop Believin” was named the biggest song of all time earlier this year. More recently, Schon recalled being “terrified” when the hit track was used in Glee – and looked back on it soundtracking the final-ever scene of The Sopranos .

Journey appear to cancel 2024 UK & Ireland tour with Cheap Trick

6 August 2024, 12:45 | Updated: 7 August 2024, 10:22

Journey press

By Jenny Mensah

The 11-date arena tour was originally set to celebrate 50 years of the Don't Stop Believin' rockers' career.

Listen to this article

Journey have appeared to cancel their 50th anniversary tour on this side of the pond.

The Don't Stop Believin' rockers were set to mark five decades together with dates in the UK & Ireland this year, with special guests Cheap Trick.

However, now it appears that the arena shows - which were due to kick off at Cardiff Utilita Arena on Wednesday 30th October and culminate in a date a The O2, London on Sunday 17th November - have been cancelled, with fans reporting of receiving an announcement via email.

As reported by Planet Rock, the short statement read: "Due to circumstances beyond the band's control, Journey's UK and Ireland tour is unfortunately cancelled."

It added. "Refunds will be made from your point of purchase."

Nothing official has come from the band's socials or website, but the event page for their date at The O2 London has since been removed.

One fan who was due to watch them wrote on X: "I’m a ticket holder and all I got was an email saying cancelled. No explanation. Not good enough."

Meanwhile, earlier this year the band celebrated Don’t Stop Believin' being named the biggest song of all time by Forbes.

The 1981 track - which appeared on Journey's seventh studio LP Escape - has gone 18 times platinum and officially become the biggest song in the history of music.

The band's founding member and lead guitarist Neal Schon wrote on X: "We now officially have the biggest song in the world ever in the history of music! Congratulations to all."

Former Journey frontman Steve Perry celebrated the achievement on Instagram with a heartfelt post.

He wrote: "When this “Don’t Stop Believin’ ,'The Biggest Song of ALL Time' article came out I was so emotionally stunned.

"To be part of such a moment as this made me reflect on my parents. By that I mean, though I lost them both years ago, I was so happy for them because they are truly the reason this is happening. My dad was a singer and both of them were very musical. So on behalf of my Mom and Dad, I thank every one of you for so many years of support. -Sincerely, Steve Perry."

Journey cancel upcoming UK and Ireland tour due to "circumstances beyond the band's control"

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission.

Journey have cancelled their upcoming UK and Ireland tour. The run of dates was due to begin on October 30 at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff, Wales, with support from Cheap Trick . The news was broken in an email sent to ticketholders.

"Due to circumstances beyond the band's control, Journey's UK and Ireland tour is unfortunately cancelled,” the message read. “Refunds will be made from your point of purchase."

The cancellation arrives just days after keyboardist Jonathan Cain sued guitarist Neal Schon in the latest in an ongoing series of legal battles. In the dispute, detailed in court dockets  filed in the state of Delaware on July 30, Cain petitions the court to appoint a third director of the pair's Freedom 2020 company so that matters related to alleged financial mismanagement on the part of Schon may be resolved.

"There’s always going to be bumps in the road,” Cain told Classic Rock in 2022 . “No forty-year relationship is ever not going to have them."

Journey are currently on the road in the US with Def Leppard , and these dates remain unaffected. Tickets for Journey's upcoming shows in Japan, which precede the now-cancelled UK dates, are still on sale.

Legendary 80s rock band cancel UK tour after ten-year wait for ‘gutted’ fans

Journey performing onstage in front of a large crowd in New Jersey

80s rock band Journey – responsible for huge hit Don’t Stop Believin’ – have cancelled their UK and Ireland tour , leaving fans with lots of unanswered questions.

The 50th Anniversary Freedom Tour was all set to kick off in Cardiff on October 30, but ticket-holders are reported to have received an email this morning with news of the cancellation.

After Wales , the band were scheduled to stop off in Nottingham, Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham and Newcastle, ending in London ’s O2 on November 17.

This would have been the first time in a decade the band – made up of founding member Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Jason Derlatka, Deen Castronovo, Todd Jensen, and Arnel Pineda – have played in the UK and Ireland.

So it’s been a long wait for fans, who got the news in their inbox via a statement which, according to multiple outlets, simply read: ‘Due to circumstances beyond the band’s control, Journey’s UK and Ireland tour is unfortunately cancelled. Refunds will be made from your point of purchase.’

Fans have taken to X with their disappointment, as @CryptidConn wrote: ‘I’ve been a fan practically my whole 31 years of life. Been waiting 10+ years for them to tour the UK again.

‘Finally they do. I got close to stage tickets for their final UK tour date on their 50th Anniversary and then it gets cancelled with ZERO explanation!? I’m bloody gutted.’

‘I’m gutted about this :(‘ added user Nic, while @ivanb1964 said: ‘Had tickets to see them at the O2 with flights. NO EXPLANATION???? Don’t believe they care about their fans on this side of the pond.’

Mitch R added: ”I’m a ticket holder and all I got was an email saying cancelled. No explanation. Not good enough.’

This comes after Bloomberg , broke the news last week that Cain was suing Schon over claims the founding member exceeded the $1,500 (£1,177) per-night hotel fee cap, maxed out a $1million limited American Express card, chartered private jets, hired close friends as security and blocked debt repayment efforts during their 50th anniversary tour.

The court filing  to Delaware’s Chancery Court was made public on July 29 and concerns Freedom 2020 Inc., the company founded in 2021 and reportedly equally headed by Cain and Schon to oversee the band’s touring-related asset.

The filing describes the dispute as ‘a very much public battle between petitioner and respondent and is impacting the band’s reputation throughout the music industry.’

It added that the ‘onstage performance’ aspect was safe from the impact and ‘has not suffered’.

The ‘far-reaching’ deadlock started to affect day-to-day operations, however, as it described one director will ‘terminate an employee or crew member’ only for the other to rehire them ‘hours or days later’.

The alleged ‘strains on cash flow’ could ‘pose a severe threat of harm to the company and to Journey’s storied history of musical greatness’, the lawsuit added.

The legendary music group formed in  1973  saw Cain, 74, join in  1980  just a year before the release of their greatest hit, Don’t Stop Believin’.

The band was eventually inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

Jonathan’s pro-Donald Trump allegiances have also caused issues between the pair, since he is married to the former President’s spiritual advisor Paula White-Cain.

He performed Don’t Stop Believin’ to Trump at Mar-a-Lago and promptly received a cease-and-desist letter from Neal labelling the act ‘deleterious to the Journey brand as it polarises the band’s fans and outreach’.

Jonathan opened up about his pro-Trump politics in an interview with Metro.co.uk earlier this year.

When asked if he saw the former US president and convicted felon was an ‘innocent man’ he said: ‘Put it this way, there might have been some misdemeanours. Crimes, as they’re calling it. But yes, I do.’

Reflecting on Trump’s decision to bid for President in the upcoming US election, Jonathan added: ‘I think he’s a fighter. He has a chance. They can’t stop him legally. He can run for president from jail. It will make him a legend.’

‘It’s been a long time for Europe,’ Cain also said, explaining how they exploded in the UK in 1981 but didn’t get over here for concerts much.

The keyboardist said former lead singer Steve Perry was always worried ‘something would happen’ at a concert if they toured Europe back in the 80s.

‘There was some unrest in Europe, and especially over in Ireland. And I think that was what kept Steve Perry away was all the bombing and, you know, the unrest,’ he said.

‘He was always worried about something happening in one of our shows. I didn’t get that because we’re not political. We just come and play our hits, you know.

‘Don’t Stop Believin’, the one song that made it in the UK, was an escape route. That’s all we needed to do.’

Cain added: ‘But in the end I think we missed an opportunity that we could have showed up. There would have been no trouble, I don’t think at all. But he had to approve it. And he just said it wasn’t safe.’

Lauryn Hill reveals why her US tour dates with the Fugees were canceled just THREE days before first show - as she insists European shows are still on

Lauryn Hill is clearing up the surprise cancellation of her upcoming concerts in the United States with her band the Fugees.

The 49-year-old singer and rapper delivered the update to Instagram on Wednesday, a day after fans were shocked to see emails in their inboxes announcing that the concerts were canceled and their refunds were on the way.

In her statement, Hill attributed the cancellations to low ticket sales.

However, she alleged that the sluggish sales were not the result of fan disinterest, but were instead the result of 'sensationalism' from media outlets and 'clickbait headlines.'

'With difficulty the decision was made to pull down our upcoming North American tour dates,' she wrote, clarifying that 'The shows in the UK and Europe ARE MOVING FORWARD as planned.'

Although the Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill singer has developed a reputation over the years for canceling performances and having tardy start times, she attributed a recent spate of cancellations to a medical issue.

'Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows,' she explained. 'Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour.

'The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal,' she added.

Demand for UK and European shows may have been greater due to scarcity, as Hill reminded her fans that people in those regions 'not only haven’t seen the Miseducation Anniversary performance yet, they also haven’t seen the Fugees perform together in over 25 years!'

Hill emphasized that 'no one' was 'more disappointed about not being able to perform' than her as she praised the experience of performing as a 'profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time.'

'Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music,' she continued.

'Know that I am not only grateful for those who appreciate and support my art, but that I FIGHT and push through all kinds of resistance to put together experiences that mean something for all of us,' Hill wrote. 'I love being able to bring these performances to you!'

After thanking fans for their 'understanding' and reiterating that the UK and European tour would still commence in October, Hill added that she hoped to be 'back in full force' with the Fugees for future North American shows.

Prior to her update, fans were left in the dark about the abrupt cancellation.

On Tuesday, August 6, ticket holders hoping to catch the R&B singer and the iconic hip-hop trio received news of incoming refunds, while the tour dates had been removed from Ticketmaster's website.

Disappointed fans took to social media to express frustration over the lack of information regarding the last-minute change.

One person with the handle @PLoJetson wrote on X, 'IT'S SO DISHEARTENING BEING A FAN OF LAURYN HILL. Last October, an hour before the show in Dallas, it was cancelled with no warning. I tried again this run, even when EVERYONE clowned me [and said] I was foolish for trying. Cancelled AGAIN. I love Lauryn, man. But damn, yo. DO BETTER.'

Per  Variety , others posted screenshots of a message from Live Nation that stated plainly: 'Your event has been canceled. A refund will be on its way to your account soon.'

The 18-date North American tour was slated to kick off on Friday in Tampa, Florida.

September dates included stops at the Hollywood Bowl and in New York and New Jersey.

Other dates that were wiped out — initially without reason — included Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston and Milwaukee.

Tickets remain on sale for the overseas portion of the tour, starting with a gig in Manchester, England, on October 12.

The tour, which includes London and Paris shows, is set to end in Amsterdam on October 22.

Although Hill stated that those shows are still on, it's unclear if they have reached the necessary threshold for ticket sales, or if they might still be canceled at a later date.

Prior to her explanation for the cancellations, Hill last posted about the tour on June 24.

She wrote, 'The Celebration Continues… Artist pre-sale begins Wed, 6/26 at 10am local using code MLH. On-sale begins Fri, 6/28 at 10am.'

It's the third consecutive year that the group cancelled tour dates, leaving fans heartbroken.

The reunion tour was first announced in 2021, but was later postponed before being cancelled in January 2022 due to COVID conditions.

Lauryn's last major performance was at the BET Awards in June.
