Tank R&B Money album cover

Tank’s appearance on tour will support his final album,  R&B Money , which dropped in August and was included on Rated R&B’s Best R&B Albums of 2022 list.

R&B Money  includes Tank’s radio hits “ Can’t Let It Show ,” “ I Deserve ” and the most recent “ Slow ” featuring J. Valentine. The two performed the bedroom banger at the 2022 Soul Train Awards .

Tank described his final album as “a labor of love to my fans and to the genre of R&B.” He added, “I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for artists like Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, Keith Sweat, Al Green, as well as my fans who inspire me every day to make music. I wanted this album to pay homage to my influences and my evolution as an artist, and I think that’s what this final album represents.”

New Edition Invites Keith Sweat, Guy & Tank On The 'Legacy Tour'

Butta

New Edition is back outside in 2023! After going on The Culture Tour earlier this year with Charlie Wilson and Jodeci , NE is hitting the road once again in the new year. This time around, they're taking off on the Legacy Tour and bringing fellow '80s and '90s R&B veterans Keith Sweat and Guy and special guest Tank along for the musical joyride.

The legendary group is teaming back up with the Black Promoters Collective , the producers of The Culture Tour, to present their Legacy Tour. All six members of New Edition – Ronnie DeVoe , Bobby Brown , Ricky Bell , Michael Bivins , Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill – are going to take over stages across the United States beginning in March with their classic sing-along songs and slick choreography.

The Legacy Tour kicks off on Thursday, March 9, 2023 in Columbia, South Carolina before traveling to a total of 31 cities as winter ends and spring begins. Tour stops include Memphis, D.C., Hampton, Newark, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Oakland, Cleveland, Nashville, Baltimore and Miami. New Edition and friends will wrap things up on Sunday, April 30, 2023 in Tampa.

Make plans to attend the Legacy Tour now and prepare to have a time. New Edition is guaranteed to put on a consistently stellar show night after night, and that's on N.E. Heartbreak . Keith Sweat will be quite entertaining (especially if he has some Ciroc in him). Guy members Teddy Riley , Aaron Hall and Damion Hall will show and prove that they've still got the juice and the jams. And though he's allegedly and supposedly retired from R&B, we've got our money (see what we did there?) on Tank giving fans the best that he's got as the opening, opening, opening act.

Legacy Tour tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, December 16th at 10 a.m. local time and may be purchased via the Black Promoters Collective website . American Express cardholders can access and purchase presale tickets now through Thursday, December 15th at 11:59 p.m. local time. If the Legacy Tour is anything like The Culture Tour, tickets will sell fast and may very well sell out, so get yours early.

December 13, 2022  – Iconic Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum-selling R&B supergroup NEW EDITION closed out 2022 with the highly successful "The Culture Tour," nominated as one of the Top R&B Tours in the country by Pollstar. Selling out arenas across the country, the icons and The Black Promoters Collective (BPC) are happy to announce the 30-city “LEGACY TOUR” with a must-see lineup that includes a New Jack Swing reunion with KEITH SWEAT and the original members of GUY (Teddy Riley, Aaron Hall, and Damion Hall) and TANK starting on Thursday, March 9 in Columbia, SC and ending on Sunday, April 30 in Tampa, FL.

The “Legacy Tour” will visit Charlotte’s Spectrum Center on Friday, March 10. Tickets will go on sale to the general public next Friday, December 16, at 10 a.m. at  spectrumcentercharlotte.com  or  ticketmaster.com . Prices range from $59.50 to $179.50. Before offering to the general public, “Legacy Tour” tickets go on presale toAmerican Express® Card Members beginning Wednesday, December 14 at 10 am local time through Thursday, December 15 at 11:59 pm local time.

“Few recording artists can attest to a superior 40-year career that stands the test of time, but New Edition can. When we partnered with NE for “The Culture Tour,” although I knew it would be stellar, their show exceeded my expectations; the guys were nothing short of miraculous. We are excited about partnering with New Edition to further the legacy of the foundation they have already laid,” states BPC CEO Gary Guidry.

NEW EDITION hit the scene in 1983 with their iconic #1 debut album  Candy Girl disrupting the music industry forty years ago. That same year, the album's title cut knocked Michael Jackson's "Beat It" out of the #1 spot on the Billboard "Hot Black Singles" chart. The group has gone on to win many awards, including BET’s “Lifetime Achievement” awards, and has one of the most highly watched biopics in music history, the 3-part BET series: The New Edition Story, which attracted more than 29 million viewers. Comprised of Ronnie DeVoe, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ralph Tresvant, and Johnny Gill, New Edition has remained one of the most influential R&B groups in the world for close to four decades. With a vast catalog, New Edition is ready to perform a host of new hits that weren’t performed in 2022’s “The Culture Tour,” giving their fans a whole new experience to tuck in their memory book.

KEITH SWEAT entered the charts with his 3X platinum debut solo album,  Make It Last Forever , in 1987, giving the world its first New Jack Swing Billboard "Hot 100" hit, "I Want Her." The song, produced by Teddy Riley and Sweat, became the most successful R&B song in 1988 on the Billboard "Hot R&B Songs" chart. In 1997, Sweat formed the group LSG (Levert, Sweat, and Gill - Johnny Gill of New Edition), whose debut album, Levert.Sweat.Gill sold double platinum and produced the hit song "My Body," which became a platinum single, spending seven weeks at #1 on the charts. In addition to touring and making new music, Sweat currently has the #1 nationally syndicated R&B evening radio show called "The Sweat Hotel with Keith Sweat," reaching more than fifty markets across the country.

Teddy Riley ushered in a new musical genre called New Jack Swing, which included the formation of his group GUY with Aaron Hall and Damion Hall in 1987. The group's first album, the self-titled masterpiece, quickly spawned the Billboard "Hot 100" hit "I Like," which, along with four other hit singles such as "Groove Me" and "Teddy's Jam," helped to propel the debut album to double platinum status. The group disbanded after their second album,  The Future , citing the stresses of the tragic loss of their former manager. However, Teddy Riley went on to produce for the likes of Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga. In addition, he was instrumental in the rise of Bobby Brown's solo career, creating the megahit "My Prerogative," which  Complex  magazine says is the #1 New Jack Swing song of all time. The “Legacy Tour” will be the first time the group has come together to tour in more than fifteen years.

New Edition performs together onstage.

New Edition is getting back into the New Jack Swing of things.

Following a massive 2022 tour, the famed R&B group decided to do it all over again next year and will take their “Legacy Tour” to arenas all over North America from March 9 through April 30.

And no, you don’t have to worry the whole group— Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph and Johnny— will be there.

To sweeten the deal, they’re bringing along fellow icons Keith Sweat, the recently reunited Guy and Tank along for the ride as well.

On the 30-concert trek, New Edition and their impressive roster of opening acts will drop into the NY/NJ area three times— first up, they’ll hit Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on March 18, then Newark’s Prudential Center on March 19 and finally, Elmont’s UBS Arena on April 20.

So, if you count yourself among the many #NE4Lifers and can’t wait to hear “Candy Girl,” live, here’s everything you need to know about the 2023 “Legacy Tour.”

New Edition 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar featuring all upcoming tour dates, venues and links to buy tickets can be found below.

New Edition opening acts

The lineup for the “Legacy Tour” is truly stacked. In the off chance you’re not acquainted with the tour’s special guests, we’ve got a quick refresher ready to go for you.

Keith Sweat has five Top 10 Billboard hits and 14 huge albums under his belt, making him a bona fide headliner in his own right. In fact, he’s got a few arena gigs of his own lined up for next year. If you’re looking to fall in love with his music all over again, give “Twisted,” one of the all-time great slow jams, a spin.

Guy , currently made up of Teddy Riley, Aaron Hall and Damion Hall, broke up in 1991 and has reunited multiple times since the initial split. Most recently, the New Jack Swing pioneers played a handful of gigs in 2018-19 where they busted out their classic hits “Let’s Chill” and “Groove Me.”

Tank is a bit newer to the scene, getting his start in 2001. Over the past two decades, he’s steadily released music— including smash singles “Maybe I Deserve,” “Please Don’t Go” and “When We”— and developed a nice acting career as well. You very may well recognize him from his work in “The Real Husbands of Hollywood,” “Grown Folks” and, of course, “The New Edition Story.”

Huge R&B tours in 2023

Our musical forecast for next year: Expect lots of slow dances and party-starting anthems.

That’s because many of the biggest names in R&B have lined up tours in the coming months.

Rather than overwhelm you, here are just five of our favorite can’t miss acts you have to catch when they come to a city near you this winter, spring and summer.

New Edition to launch 2023 tour with Keith Sweat, Guy and Tank as guests

“The Legacy Tour” coincides with the 40th anniversary year of New Edition’s debut, “Candy Girl.”

New Edition will embark on a new tour in 2023 and will bring along some important guests. The R&B group announced that its “Legacy Tour” will have support from Keith Sweat, Guy and Tank.

The supergroup sextet of Ronnie DeVoe, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Mike Bivins, Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill is scheduled to perform in 30 venues in only a two-month span next spring. From March 9 to April 30, the group will play Charlotte, North Carolina, Washington D.C., Newark, New Jersey, Chicago, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Las Vegas and other cities.

Sweat, a longtime collaborator of Riley and Gill, is behind R&B classics, including “Make It Last Forever,” “Make You Sweat,” “Twisted” and “Nobody.” Guy — the reunited New Jack Swing pioneers Teddy Riley, Aaron Hall and Damion Hall — are known for hits like “Groove Me,” “I Like,” “Let’s Chill” and “Piece of My Love.”

Tank expressed his excitement about touring with his R&B heroes in a video he tweeted on Wednesday. “After 22 years of hard work and dedication, it is an honor to open for those who paved the way.”

The “Please Don’t Go” singer starred in both “The New Edition Story” and “The Bobby Brown Story” BET miniseries, playing former MCA Records executive Jheryl Busby.

The Legacy Tour kicks off as New Edition celebrates the 40th anniversary of its debut album, 1983’s “Candy Girl.” That album launched the then-quintet into music stardom with hits like the title track, “Popcorn Love” and “Is This the End.”

The group announced its return to the road less than a year after wrapping the “Culture Tour ” earlier this year. It featured Charlie Wilson and special guest, Jodeci.

Tour tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster . Pre-sales begin at 10 a.m. local time on Dec. 15, while general public tickets go on sell at 10 a.m. local time on Dec. 16.

New Edition coming to Memphis with Keith Sweat and Guy: What to know about the show

new edition tour dates 2023 near south carolina

In March 2022, New Edition brought The Culture Tour to FedExForum , playing for a near-capacity crowd at the Downtown Memphis venue.

The show, which also featured performances by Charlie Wilson and Jodeci, felt like a homecoming for New Edition, who have been performing in the Mid-South since exploding onto the music scene in the 1980s.

Four decades on, the group still managed to dazzle the local faithful during a 2-hour concert spectacular.

Given the response to their show and tour last year — which proved a rousing success among fans hungry for unapologetically nostalgic post-pandemic entertainment — it’s little surprise that the group is headed back to Memphis this week.

This time, New Edition is headlining The Legacy Tour, which will also feature a reunion with fellow New Jack icons Keith Sweat and Guy, as well as a special guest appearance by R&B singer Tank.

This upcoming FedExForum show , like the previous concert, is being presented by the Black Promoters Collective and is part of a 30-date arena tour that will cross the country in March and April.

Memphis concerts: From New Edition to Patti LaBelle, 11 Memphis concerts you shouldn't miss in March

Memphis in May: Beale Street Music Festival is missing buzzworthy headliners. Are they still to come?

In the statement announcing the tour, Black Promoters Collective CEO Gary Guidry said: “When we partnered with NE for 'The Culture Tour,' although I knew it would be stellar, their show exceeded my expectations; the guys were nothing short of miraculous. We are excited about partnering with New Edition to further the legacy of the foundation they have already laid.”

Here are three things to know ahead of Sunday's show in Memphis.

The Legacy Tour lineup

Formed in Roxbury, Massachusetts, in 1978, New Edition — Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe and Ralph Tresvant — began as a boy band modeled after the Jackson 5.

The group broke out nationally in 1982 with the release of the infectious single “Candy Girl,” launching a seven-year run of hits from “Mr. Telephone Man” to "Can You Stand the Rain." Brown left the band in 1985 for a solo career, with vocalist Johnny Gill eventually joining up as his replacement.

After the group split in 1989, the various members would find considerable success as solo acts and as part of Bell Biv DeVoe. Starting in the mid-'90s, New Edition would reunite in various permutations. Last year’s show was the first time in more than a decade that the full six-man lineup — featuring Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell, Ronnie DeVoe and Johnny Gill  — had performed in Memphis.

What makes this current New Edition-led tour so interesting is the synergy of the lineup, particular the inclusion of fellow New Jack Swing acts Keith Sweat and the original lineup of Guy, led by Teddy Riley.

Sweat first made his mark in 1987 with the release of his debut “Make It Last Forever,” and the hit "I Want Her." A decade later, in 1997, Sweat formed the groupLSG (Levert, Sweat, and Gill with Johnny Gill of New Edition), whose debut album went double platinum. In addition to his solo career, Sweat currently hosts the popular nationally syndicated R&B evening radio show "The Sweat Hotel with Keith Sweat."

If New Jack Swing has an architect, then it’s writer/producer and Guy leader Teddy Riley. Guy — featuring Aaron Hall and Damion Hall — launched in 1987, with their self-titled classic LP, and hit singles "I Like," "Groove Me" and "Teddy's Jam." The group split up after their sophomore album, and Teddy Riley went on to produce hits for Bobby Brown, Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga, among others.

What to expect at New Edition show

New Edition’s Legacy Tour will kick off officially Thursday, with a concert in South Carolina. After stops in Charlotte and Birmingham, the tour will arrive in Memphis on Sunday.

Because Memphis comes fairly early in the run, there won’t be much advance buzz on what the show will be like, but based on last year’s tour, concertgoers can expect all three main acts to focus on their hits and fan favorites. None of the acts have new albums to promote or are looking to dig too deep into their catalog, but rather serving up much-loved classics.

Last year, New Edition’s set packed the best from the group’s catalog — all the way back to 1982’s "Candy Girl" through to 1988's smash "If It Isn’t Love" and even 1995’s comeback single “Hit Me Off" — while incorporating songs from their various solo and post-New Edition projects.

This includes bangers from Brown (“My Prerogative,” “Every Little Step”), Gill (“Rub You The Right Way”), and Tresvant (“Sensitivity”), as well as Bell Biv DeVoe (“Poison,” “Do Me!”). The group has even been doing some throwback covers, including The Floaters “Float On” and David Oliver’s “Love TKO.”

Sweat and Guy are expected to deliver similarly sharp sets of favorites. In short, expect plenty of familiar jams.

Are New Edition tickets still available?

Given New Edition’s quick return to the Mid-South market, it’s clear the group remains a popular attraction and early ticket sales for the FedExForum show back that up.

A quick look at Ticketmaster reveals that there are just a relative handful of prime front section seats — designated as Diamond and Gold premium tickets — remaining. Those range from $379.50 to $529.50.

Mostly, though, the seats available are in the mid-level Sapphire Premium area, costing $179.50. Upper level seating costs $79.50.

Based on the way the show has been selling to date, it’s very likely the event will be sold out by Sunday.
