What’s the Best Personal-Item Bag for Flying?
![flight travel bags Portrait of Katherine Gillespie](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/1be/f0a/2a3ddf5c93784a31d0c2ebc84bde85d538-KatGillespieFINAL.2x.rsquare.w168.jpg)
Between finding a carry-on that will fit in most overhead compartments, a toiletry bag or Dopp kit for your tiny bottles of shampoo, and an under-the-seat personal item to hold everything you’ll need for in-flight comfort and entertainment, solving the packing equation isn’t easy. To make things even more complicated, there aren’t even standard regulations for what counts as a “personal item” — as my fellow writer Rachael Griffiths explains here , each airline has its own particular requirements. If you’ve purchased a basic fare on a no-frills carrier like Frontier or Spirit, you’ll generally want to stick with a bag measuring 8 x 18 x 14 inches or smaller (and if you’ve purchased a personal-item-only fare, I’ve written a minimalist packing guide to help you figure out how to travel with just one small bag). On most other airlines, there’s a lot more you can get away with. Below, find advice from stylish frequent fliers (and Strategist staffers) about the totes, duffels, and backpacks they slip over the handles of their suitcases.
The best personal-item tote bags
![flight travel bags Parker Thatch Medium Mimi - Medium Mimi - Leather Butterscotch](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/399/b17/cccbcc748f9971141f96f296b85e8381f3-parker.rsquare.w600.png)
Yolo Journal ’s Yolanda Edwards likes travel bags that don’t look like travel bags and can therefore be used for everyday sightseeing and shopping upon reaching your destination. Parker Thatch’s roomy totes fit the bill, and while they don’t have a luggage sleeve, Edwards has no problem slipping the handles of this one over her Rimowa suitcase. “And it’s great for going to the farmers’ market once I arrive where I’m going,” she adds.
![flight travel bags Longchamp Large Le Pliage Tote](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/7e3/6eb/d13f060ebc40dbbe834deae967c52951b5.rsquare.w600.jpg)
“I look for a bag that can sit on top of my carry-on, fit a lot of items, and be easily stored when not in use,” says Daniela Velasco, the creative director of Drift magazine. That bag, for her, is Longchamp’s forever classic Le Pliage tote, which flattens and folds up for storage. Strategist senior editor Hilary Reid owns one in orange and is also “always surprised by how much fits inside.”
![flight travel bags L.L. Bean Boat and Tote, Zip-Top](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/21c/53d/5c8893cc2eb251a19b6fd2fd4dff2dac6e.rsquare.w600.jpg)
Is there a more quintessential carry-all than the L.L.Bean Boat and Tote? Writer and influencer Harry Hill doesn’t think so. “As someone who is usually drawn to more uppity travel bags, this trusty tote is a delight because of how unfussy it is,” Hill tells us. “It fits a ton, it’s super-lightweight, and I don’t have to worry about spilling coffee on the vachetta or putting it on the ground.” Hill suggests monogramming your name — or a crude joke, depending on personal preference. For additional customization, “the colorways are constantly changing, so keep an eye out if you have a specific vision for your tote.” While Hill adds that it’s impossible to go wrong, because any L.L.Bean “will make you look like a Kennedy skipping town,” the zip-up version of the bag will give more peace of mind at the airport.
![flight travel bags Cuyana Easy Travel Tote](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/d87/1b5/c81100467d47d6c35b0465883abd014f60-cuyana.rsquare.w600.png)
Strategist contributing writer Mya Gelber spent a day asking stylish strangers on the subway about their work bags, and Cuyana’s Classic Easy Zipper Tote was the one she ended up purchasing for herself. So when the brand announced this larger travel-friendly version of the popular bag, I immediately ordered one to test out. Made from soft and slouchy leather, it’s a big bag that can definitely fit an outfit or two alongside your laptop, passport, and other essentials. While it can’t be worn as a cross-body, the tote’s shoulder straps are long and thick enough to be comfortable for long periods of time. There’s no luggage sleeve, either, but this means that the bag can be used more seamlessly in everyday life — it would be an excellent investment for anyone who is commuting gym-to-office.
![flight travel bags Pacific Tote Company](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/a30/005/ea80bcbe89673bd20f251eb189b5b6c662-pacific.rsquare.w600.png)
Sewn in California from leftover sailing canvas, Pacific Tote Company’s bags are similar to L.L. Bean boat totes, except more brightly colored. The company is co-owned by director Roman Coppola (brother to Sofia, who carries Pacific Tote bags on set ) and beloved by bi-coastal film industry insiders. If you work in film and fly between L.A. and New York every other week, you carry your laptop in this pleasingly sturdy bag . Strategist style columnist Chris Black is also a fan .
![flight travel bags Kule The Over the Shoulder Tote](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/7c0/2a1/7a5412ab1a0663420a0e38f64c16820e18.rsquare.w600.jpg)
When she’s not traveling with her Parker Thatch bag, Edwards also likes to use Kule’s roomy totes as personal items. Saturday Night Live ’s Chloe Fineman travels with one of these too, and says it fits both a laptop and extra outfit inside. She adds that the New York brand’s designs are “a little cheeky and a little funny,” as well as a nice reminder of home when she’s on the road.
![flight travel bags MZ Wallace Medium Metro Tote Deluxe](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/afc/182/ee9416b0e394344fb1ed902fec6eaabd7d-black-quilted-tote.rsquare.w600.jpg)
Here’s another professional-looking, multi-purpose travel tote, as recommended by Strategist writer Lauren Ro. She says it makes a great carry-on personal item because it’s lightweight and custom-designed for air travel, with a luggage sleeve and exterior pockets for stashing chargers and tidbits, as well as a removable crossbody strap.
![flight travel bags Baggu Cloud Carry-on](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/1da/4bd/2d561b5714e87d2934b6a1bf5d1fe42067-sdfjkh.rdeep-vertical.w245.png)
At least two friends that I know of ended up immediately purchasing a Baggu Cloud Carry-on after I flaunted mine at a destination wedding this past May. Made from weightless but durable nylon, the airplane-friendly version of the brand’s original Cloud Bag can hold a lot of stuff, and the bright colorways stand out in a sea of boring navy duffels at the airport. Puffy shoulder straps make standing in line at security a bit more tolerable, and generous external pockets are handy for stashing a book or water bottle. This bag’s dimensions are actually rather large (14 × 20 × 8 inches) for a personal item, but its bulkiness really depends on how much stuff you pack inside. I’ve taken mine on a personal-item-only Spirit flight with no issues at all, and on longer trips I have also slipped it over the handle of a Samsonite carry-on suitcase using the attached luggage sleeve.
The best personal-item duffel bags
![flight travel bags Patagonia Black Hole Mini MLC](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/0ae/3c2/4345288f54d352898e5b4f832c9b7afa01.rsquare.w600.jpg)
Former Strategist associate editor Louis Cheslaw calls this Patagonia duffel his “ secret second suitcase ,” because its unassuming-yet-roomy interior lets him pack heavy without checking a bag. The Black Hole’s 30-liter capacity is about as large as a bag can be while still qualifying as the “personal item” you can bring onboard with your main carry-on suitcase and slide under the seat in front of you, Cheslaw notes. “Within that capacity, I can easily fit two pairs of shoes as well as a week’s worth of underwear, socks, and thin shirts, relieving a ton of pressure on my suitcase.”
![flight travel bags Halfday The Garment Duffel](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/85a/8d9/1e6841d71f50e963ad5f821004f8ddf324.rsquare.w600.jpg)
This new-school garment bag, which made our Travel 100 list of the best products to take on the road, can keep a suit or gown unwrinkled while also cleverly storing several other outfits. My fellow Strategist writer Rachael Griffiths loves taking hers on weekend trips with friends, especially when packing satin dresses and pleated shirts for nights out. It’s ideal for destination weddings, and Moonflower wine bar co-owner Rebecca Johnson even took one all the way to Tasmania for a romantic antipodean getaway with her husband. Going ’s travel spokesperson, Katy Nastro, told me that it’s very popular among her exceedingly well-traveled colleagues.
![flight travel bags Dagne Dover Landon Neoprene Carryall - Medium](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/f74/069/b5225e7795d9a7091b196739c3d995af69-dag--.rsquare.w600.png)
For both carry-on backpacks and duffels, former Paper fashion editor Mario Abad turns to Dagne Dover’s neoprene travel bags. “They’re the best,” he says. “They’re really lightweight, and they’re made of this scuba material that looks sleek and modern and is nice to the touch.” The bags aren’t just aesthetically pleasing, though. “You can fit a lot of stuff inside — it’s a minimal aesthetic, no busy details or anything, just all the compartments you need.” Jessica Morrobel of Traveling With Jessica agrees that the Landon is an “absolute lifesaver,” and Going ’s travel spokesperson, Katy Nastro, is also a fan, especially for quick overnights. The duffel comes in five sizes, but medium is the best option if you know you’ll be flying on budget carriers with strict rules.
The best personal-item backpacks
![flight travel bags Lo & Sons Hanover Deluxe 2 Travel Backpack](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/237/c3b/b2c096641e8794c50a106abf0787e0e8e1-deluxe-01-.rsquare.w600.jpg)
This is my current personal item backpack of choice. It is designed to slip over the handles of a carry-on suitcase, but over Christmas I took it as my only luggage on a weeklong train trip across Turkey and Georgia and it fit everything I needed, including an extra pair of shoes. The neutral design is as appropriate for day hiking and office commuting as it is flying. But the capacity is the biggest drawcard. Creator Jessica Wright of Bon Traveler is a longtime user and says she is “shocked” by how much it can hold. Great for packers who like to compartmentalize, the interior is separated into various sleeves and sections for a laptop, clothing, and tech items. But you can also remove these compartments and just use it as a black hole bag if needed.
![flight travel bags Timbuk2 Never Check Expandable Backpack](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/820/7d5/f444b36002c2f1151b5196fd917bd8c36e-timbuk2-backpack.rdeep-vertical.w245.png)
My fellow Strategist travel writer Rachael Griffiths prefers this sleek Timbuk2 backpack with even more sleeves and compartments for organizing items on the move. It, too, can store “a week away’s worth of clothes and a fat beach read if you’re strategic,” she says. Which is ideal if you’re traveling personal-item-only .
![flight travel bags Gregory Rhune 25](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/09a/e52/1dda73ec97a451caff3acee11cca621470.rdeep-vertical.w245.jpg)
The “clown car of personal items” is what writer and film wrangler Maggie Slepian calls this top-loading backpack from hiker-beloved brand Gregory. When she used it as her only luggage item for a four-day trip to the East Coast last fall, it fit a laptop, notebook, sandals, running shoes, rain jacket, jumpsuit, two pairs of leggings, two pairs of shorts, several shirts, toiletries, socks, undergarments, five pairs of headphones (over-ear, noise-canceling earbuds, white-noise only, corded for the plane, and AirPods for Zoom calls), and snacks. Her water bottle was stashed in the stretchy side pocket.
![flight travel bags Patagonia Ultralight Black Hole Tote Pack](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/ba9/68c/1ae0b52f289e973a0e313b4c2e8334ddf6.rdeep-vertical.w245.jpg)
Patagonia’s Ultralight Black Hole Tote Pack is “a really good bag,” as Strategist contributing writer Molly Dektar observes . Popular among globe-trotting art world types, it can be carried as either a tote or a backpack, depending on the situation, and it folds into its own internal pocket, for easy storage. It is practical without sacrificing style: “Though it is crafted of black ripstop, it does not scream, ‘I hike!’ and though it has a large number of pockets and adjustable straps, it does not scream, ‘I code!’”
![flight travel bags Patagonia Black Hole 25L Daypack](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/cd7/206/0349d1f50dc65e9cd1a1e7625857a283fd.rdeep-vertical.w245.jpg)
Strategist senior editor Simone Kitchens is a fan of Patagonia’s Black Hole bags too — but she uses this more traditional-looking one. “ There are one zillion separate little pockets and perfectly sized compartments for things like chargers and night guards and passports and AirPods,” she explains, “as well as slim sleeves for a laptop and magazines.” The bag opens at the top, which means things won’t come tumbling out when you need to grab something. And while there’s a high level of organization happening on the inside, the bag has a smooth exterior: “ I quite like that the outside doesn’t look all that tricked out. ”
![flight travel bags Fjallraven Kanken Mini](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/02e/818/922ef27d488590a26b8d13c822ec7b36aa-fjallraven.rsquare.w600.jpg)
Despite fears of looking like a Scandinavian school child or 2012-era hipster, Strategist writer Dominique Pariso is loyal to her Kanken — and she’s not alone among our staff . “This backpack is so light, so compact, and so durable it really is ideal for stuffing under tiny airplane seats,” she explains. “Plus, you can fit way more stuff inside than seems humanly possible given its petite size.”
The best personal-item cross-bodies and fanny packs
![flight travel bags Ratio et Motus Eclipse Bag](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/955/179/4e6f44c930dd6cf8fff3fdbf5f6aa46755.rsquare.w600.jpg)
Crescent-shaped bags have been everywhere over the past couple of years, but here’s one that’ll stand out from the crowd. Writer and artist Ludwig Hurtado says it’s big enough to fit your phone, headphones, passport, sunglasses, snacks, and even a book or two. And the cross-body strap makes it ideal for travel: “In theory, I love the look of a large tote bag, but when I’m running around the city or the airport, they tend to fall off my shoulder way too easily.” He took his to Paris Fashion Week as well as on a quick trip to Berlin, where it successfully helped him gain entry to Berghain.
![flight travel bags Baggu Medium Nylon Crescent Bag](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/646/7ee/e71307998f2d4b9a3a0fa169cad2bfb10f-Baggu-bag.rdeep-vertical.w245.jpg)
On the more affordable side of things, Baggu’s take on the crescent trend is excellent for travel. I’ve had mine for a couple of years now and would be lost without it at the airport. It’s comfortable to wear, with a highly adjustable strap and two zippered internal pockets for securing your phone, passport, and wallet. The capacity is huge: I can fit a book and water bottle inside and still have room left over for other items. I’ve machine washed it several times with no issue. And while the bag looks smart, especially in the black colorway, it’s also low-key enough to avoid the attention of pickpockets. Hairstylist Teddi Cranford, who has visited Marrakech five times , says that it’s “essential for the souk,” because you can “just easily grab stuff out and zip it back up.”
![flight travel bags Dagne Dover Ace Fanny Pack](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/02f/813/96f37552ac8cd43b9c27b2e8c72bfb23e6.rsquare.w600.jpg)
Less sporty-looking than the ubiquitous Lululemon belt bag, and constructed from stretchy neoprene fabric that lets you stuff it full if you need to, our favorite fanny pack is perfect for the plane. As Strategist editor Maxine Builder explains, it’s made of “forgiving, easy-to-clean” neoprene, and “it expands a fair bit” so she can stuff more into it.

Whether you have travel lined up or your friend’s recent travel posts are inspiring your next out-of-office getaway, it’s high time to shop for the best travel bags. The type of travel bag you decide to get will depend on your travel destination, your budget, and your personal style. But with so many choices, it's hard to know what to pick. We spoke with frequent fliers and travel experts on the best tips to pick the right travel bag for comfortable, secure, and easy travel. Below are the expert-recommended picks and tips to help you choose. And if you’re flying, remember to try to keep up with safety travel precautions as best as you can.
- Makeup and Toiletry Bag
How to choose a travel bag
When it comes to shopping for luggage , experts agree that you should never sacrifice quality. “If you plan to travel often or take longer trips, it’s worth investing in higher-quality luggage,” Ciara Johnson , full-time travel blogger at Hey Ciara , tells SELF. Big-ticket items like suitcases should be long-lasting and durable. Otherwise, you’d be shelling out way more to keep replacing damaged bags.
We know that wear and tear can’t be avoided, especially with luggage taking a beating on planes and buses. Megan Homme , a travel blogger who also works in the airline industry, has a tip for that. She says to opt for a dark-colored suitcase to hide scuffs better. “Lighter colors will show wear and age much more quickly,” she says. Pro tip: Add a unique luggage tag to make your bag stand out from the others at the conveyor belt seat.
If possible, try to opt for carry-ons to save time at check-in lines and speed through baggage claim—just make sure it passes the size requirement. “These days, it’s more important than ever to use carry-on because of the chaotic systems at understaffed airports,” says Caroline Eubanks, writer and author of This Is My South: The Essential Travel Guide to the Southern States . “You should ideally be able to manage your own bags and not rely on flight attendants.” Her pro tip: Always look up what type of plane you’ll be on. She notes, “for small, regional routes, the standard carry-on bag won't fit in the overhead bin.”
Shopping tips
When it comes to the actual shopping part, Johnson recommends shopping by need and tendencies. Will you be staying in hotels or hostels? Will you be taking shorter or longer trips? Will you be traveling in places with an established or developed infrastructure? Spinner wheels are easier to haul through airports, but if you’re backpacking in Europe, ditch the spinners for a backpack to avoid the cobblestone streets that will surely wreck the wheels.
Johnson also adds, “If possible, you should examine the product in-store. However, the most innovative luggage brands typically only exist online." She recommends doing research and comparing various luggage brands before you make a purchase. She adds that some brands even offer a “try-before-you-buy policy, along with a lifetime warranty.” Generally speaking, travel bags are not the place to save some money on your travels, but there are ways to find deals, especially during shopping holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And if you enjoy the thrill of secondhand shopping, Eubanks says she’s gotten a deal or two shopping thrift. “Secondhand can be a good way to save money.”
You also don’t need to be a pro packer or inherently organized to pack well. All you need are pockets. Johnson says a good rule of thumb when shopping for any travel bag is “the more pockets [and] organizers, the better.” Use them for separating clean clothes from sullied ones. You can even separate gifts for loved ones to take home after your vacation. According to Johnson, you can’t go wrong with the following features for luggage options: 360 spinner wheels, expandability, compression straps, endless pockets, a side handle, built-in TSA locks, and polycarbonate material.

Here are 21 expert-recommended travel bags for every kind of traveler to help you narrow down your options and focus all that logistical planning on your itinerary. Béis The 29-Inch Rolling Spinner Suitcase
As far as check-in bags go, Johnson says the Beis 29-Inch Large Check-in Roller is “one of the most functional suitcases on the market.” Beis is owned by Pretty Little Liars alum Shay Mitchell and has been a hit since its launch. Its many features include everything you’d need in a check-in suitcase: multiple pockets and organizers, a built-in TSA lock, a laundry and shoe bag, and an ergonomic handle for easy lugging. Her favorite feature? “There's a built-in weight indicator that tells you if your bag is overweight.”
![flight travel bags Black Hartmann Ratio 2 Global Carry On Expandable Spinner on white background](https://media.self.com/photos/62d6c754b0e86903e8c524d7/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/Hartmann%2520Ratio%25202%2520Global%2520Carry%2520On%2520Expandable%2520Spinner.jpg)
Hartmann Ratio 2 Global Carry On Expandable Spinner
For soft-side suitcases, the technologically-advanced Hartmann Carry-on comes highly recommended. Eubanks loves the bag’s “flexibility,” including the pockets for reading materials and documents that are often lacking in hard-shell cases. The best features are the padded, trifold garment suiters it comes with for keeping formalwear or business outfits tidy and pressed, and the bag has built-in USB ports, so you can charge your gadgets while in transit.
![flight travel bags Black Away The Carry-On Flex on white background](https://media.self.com/photos/62d6d293b0e86903e8c524ed/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/Away%2520The%2520Carry-On%2520Flex.jpg)
Away The Carry-On Flex
Away Travel
Frequent fliers love Away’s suitcases. Homme, who always travels carry-on only, prefers Away’s The Carry-on Flex because its expandable feature ensures extra storage allowance for shopping. Plus, she points out, “I recommend hard-shell luggage because you never know what could leak out of someone else’s bag in the bins.”
![flight travel bags Away The Bigger Carry On with Pocket](https://media.self.com/photos/62e8011a499d24d0efd465ff/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/Away%2520The%2520Bigger%2520Carry-On%2520with%2520Pocket.png)
Away The Bigger Carry-On with Pocket
“The quality of Away luggage is incredible across the board,” says Johnson, who is a fan of the brand and prefers The Bigger Carry-on with Pocket. Most hard-shell suitcases in the market don’t have external pockets, but this one features a water-resistant front pocket—perfect for keeping your travel documents and boarding passes available for easy access. It can even hold a 15-inch laptop. It has a removable, washable lining and a hidden laundry bag.

Cierra Mistt, a flight attendant and TikTok travel influencer , only has one carry-on go-to: LuggageWorks’s Stealth Premier 22-Inch 737 Rolling Bag. Apparently, her crew feels the same way. “I know pilots and flight attendants who have had the same roll-aboards for 10 years and never had to get another,” she says, adding, “Durable is an understatement.”
![flight travel bags Black Tumi Alpha 3 Continental Expandable 4 Wheeled Carry-On on white background](https://media.self.com/photos/62d6bef533a894a0b6852630/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/Tumi%2520Alpha%25203%2520Continental%2520Expandable%25204%2520Wheeled%2520Carry-On.jpg)
Tumi International Expandable 4 Wheeled Carry-On
Another expert favorite brand is Tumi for “extremely resistant and durable” bags. Though just in case it breaks when you’re on the go, Tumi offers worldwide support anytime, anywhere. Mar Pages, co-founder of Solo Female Travelers and Solo Female Travelers Tours, says the Tumi Carry-on in particular is a popular choice for vacationers for a reason. “You will recognize this bag because they have been making it for well over 20 years with minimal improvements.” She particularly enjoys the “nifty details” like “outside hooks to hang your laptop bag” and “double bar handles so you can slide your laptop bag.”
![flight travel bags Black Béis The Backpack on white background](https://media.self.com/photos/62d6ce7d05a983231c0d231f/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/Be%25CC%2581is%2520The%2520Backpack.jpg)
Béis The Backpack
Another Béis favorite is The Backpack. “It is really, really spacious,” Kristina Rodulfo , beauty content creator and former Elle editor, tells SELF. Rodulfo notes that the bag “opens really wide which makes for easy packing” while still looking sleek as a solo bag for short getaways. It's designed to carry everything from your laptop to your gym stuff. If you want to pair it with a trolley, use the sleeve to attach it to your luggage.

Pacsafe Citysafe CS300 Anti-Theft Compact Backpack
This Pacsafe Citysafe backpack is a great hands-free, anti-theft option thanks to its slash guards, smart-zipper security, and an RFID-safe pocket. “The zippers can be attached with a clip, and one shoulder strap has a locking mechanism if you want to secure it around a table leg,” adds Eubanks. There are also a ton of pockets and compartments, including a laptop sleeve and two side pockets for holding water bottles or umbrellas.

Kristen Bor, founder of Bearfoot Theory Outdoor , recommends it if you're going on an adventure or outdoor trip and need a bag that can double as a daypack. “The U-zip compartment allows for easy packing and access to your gear, while the stowaway shoulder harness and hip belt give you options on how you want to carry your luggage: backpack style or over the shoulder like a duffel.” Osprey has been continuously perfecting the bag with slight improvements yearly, and it’s built with recycled fabrics making it an eco-friendly option.

How To Choose The Best Travel Bag
Domestic vs. International Travel Carry-Ons
We know that you’ve probably gotten away with taking a suitcase that definitely was not regulation carry-on size. Typically, domestic flights are a bit more lenient with your luggage dimensions, but a good rule of thumb for domestic flights is to make sure your carry-on bag fits within 22-inches by 14-inches by 9-inches. This size ensures that your bag—along with everyone else’s—is going to fit in the bins overhead on your flight. If you’re flying internationally however, these airlines are more likely than not going to be stricter. We suggest finding a carry-on that is 20 inches or shorter to take on your international flights. And always check with your airlines.
Soft Shell vs. Hard Shell Luggage
If you’re a no-fuss kind of traveler, a soft-shell suitcase is for you. They’re able to withstand a bit more wear and tear whether you’re taking it glamping or stuffing it in the overhead compartment. On the other hand, if you are packing items that need some added protection (think: a pair of heels you don’t want to break or a beloved designer bag), we suggest going with a hard-shell suitcase so that none of your valuables sustain any damage.
Two-Wheel Luggage vs. Four-Wheel Luggage
If you have ever been down-to-the-last-second late for a flight and almost missed it because you had to drag your heavy suitcase behind you, we suggest you get a spinner suitcase. A spinner has four wheels, which tend to be multidirectional, helping you not only have full control over your bag, but also allowing you to comfortably glide your luggage alongside of you as you maneuver through security to your gate. On the other hand, two-wheeled suitcases typically have wheels that are inside of the main compartment and required being tilted on their side to drag through the terminal.

The return of travel, while incredibly exciting, has also proved challenging. Airports are packed, flights are being cancelled , and more paperwork is required than ever before. - Make sure you are familiar with the most up-to-date passport , visa and Covid requirements .
- Take a printed copy of your documents and keep them within easy reach, avoiding the time it can take to look up emails or worry about your phone battery.
- Check your airline's recent baggage allowances in advance, ensuring your suitcase and cabin luggage fall within the requirements and are in working order.
- Be prepared for security: keep your liquids and laptop in a part of your bag that's quick and easy to remove.
With these tips in mind, a dependable flight bag that ensures you have everything you need and within easy reach, is more important than ever. Whether you prefer a backpack, a tote or a case, we've pulled together our favourite flight bags, from barely-there styles that pack a punch to clever carryalls that ensure you're prepared for whatever the journey may bring. Packing for a trip can be stressful, especially if you’re trying to fit everything you need into a carry-on bag. With increasingly strict airline baggage allowances and common occurrences of lost/mishandled checked bags, finding the right carry-on suitcase is key to avoiding expensive checked baggage fees and ensuring your stuff makes it to your destination.
No one understands this struggle more than the SmarterTravel team. As travel editors, we travel a lot (and are firm carry-on only flyers.) We tested and reviewed the top carry-on luggage over hundreds of trips to help you find one perfectly suited for all your travels.
The carry-on bags we reviewed underwent rigorous testing to see how they held up to the realities of travel. We evaluated important factors like size and weight, wheeled performance, ease of packing, durability, and special features. Our testing process included packing each bag to capacity, carrying it through airports, stowing it in overhead bins, and taking it on planes, trains, and automobiles during real-world trips.
Ranging in price from affordable to splurge-worthy, the best carry-on suitcases earned top marks across all our tests for their optimal size, seamless maneuverability, handy organization, stylish looks, and resilience.
From a lightweight hard-sided spinner that fits easily in tiny overheads to a large carry-on that expands for over-packers, these are our travel editors’ picks for the best carry-on suitcases of 2024.
Best Carry-On Suitcase Overall: Samsonite Outline Pro Carry-On Suitcase
![flight travel bags Outline Pro Carry-On Spinner](https://www.smartertravel.com/wp-content/webp-express/webp-images/doc-root/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Best-Carry-On-Suitcase-Overall-1024x631.jpg.webp)
The Samsonite Outline Pro Carry-On Suitcase was our favorite of all the carry-on suitcases we tested. This smart and sleek suitcase is made from a durable polypropylene shell that helps contribute to its light weight of 6.4 lbs. Smooth spinner wheels and an adjustable handle make this bag easy to wheel even when fully packed.
The interior is just as nice, lined with a fabric made from 100 percent plastic bottles. There’s also a multi-functional panel divider that can compress clothes to create more space while providing pockets for organization. One of the pockets is water-resistant, so you can use it to separate swimsuits or wet clothing on the journey home.
Our favorite feature of the Samsonite Outline Pro is the antimicrobial handle technology used on the trolley grip and side handles, which helps keep us healthy while traveling.
Dimensions: 15” x 10” x 23”
Weight: 6.4 lbs
Best Large Carry-On Suitcase: Roam Large Carry-On Suitcase
![flight travel bags Roam Large Carry-On Suitcase](https://www.smartertravel.com/wp-content/webp-express/webp-images/doc-root/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Best-Large-Carry-On-Suitcase-1024x631.jpg.webp)
If you want to test the limits of an airline’s carry-on policy, we recommend the Roam Large Carry-On Suitcase as the best large carry-on suitcase. We’ve taken this suitcase on hundreds of flights and have only ever had to check it on very small puddle-jumper planes. This roomy carry-on can hold up to 42 liters, making it a great suitcase for chronic overpackers.
This suitcase comes with two compression boards, which can be used to divide the two halves of the suitcase and help you fit even more in. The boards have large pockets perfect for packing cords and other small items.
We also love that all Roam luggage can be customized to suit your style—you can choose the color of every part of this suitcase, right down to the wheels, to create a unique bag that definitely won’t get mixed up at baggage claim.
Dimensions: 9” x 16.25” x 22”
Weight: 7.7 lbs
Best Expandable Carry-On Suitcase: Delsey Rempart Carry-On Suitcase
![flight travel bags Limited Edition Carry-On Expandable Spinner](https://www.smartertravel.com/wp-content/webp-express/webp-images/doc-root/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Best-Expandable-Carry-On-Suitcase-1024x631.jpg.webp)
An expandable suitcase is like having two bags in one—keep it small and compact for a short trip or open it up for a longer journey (or for the return trip when you buy lots of souvenirs to bring home). Delsey’s Rempart Carry-On Suitcase is our favorite expandable bag due to its patented Securitech Zipper that’s three times more resistant than a standard zipper (so you don’t have to worry about it ripping open, even when it’s expanded to its maximum capacity).
Other thoughtful features include an integrated TSA-combination lock, two packing compartments with compression straps, zippered pockets, and a lined divider. We also love that the interior lining can be removed and washed—an innovation you’ll appreciate if you’ve ever come home with a sandy suitcase after a beach trip.
Three carrying handles allow this bag to be carried in various ways. If you have other Delsey suitcases, the Rempart’s modular design allows it to stack on top for easy carrying and storage.
Dimensions: 13.75” x 10.25” x 21.75”
Weight: 6.7 lbs
Best Soft-Sided Carry-On Suitcase: Travelpro Maxlite 5
![flight travel bags Travelpro Maxlite 5](https://www.smartertravel.com/wp-content/webp-express/webp-images/doc-root/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Best-Soft-Sided-Carry-On-Suitcase-1024x631.jpg.webp)
The best soft-sided carry-on suitcase is also one of the lightest weight options on our list. The Travelpro Maxlite 5 lives up to its name, weighing just 5.4 lbs. This model is the brand’s latest and is a full half-pound lighter than the previous iteration, the Travelpro Maxlite 5.
The suitcase has a unique tapered design that helps prevent it from tipping over when upright (a common problem with soft-sided suitcases). It also has a solid bottom tray design that helps increase the bag’s durability. The Travelpro Maxlite 5 can expand to 2 inches to provide extra space when needed. The interior is lined with a waterproof protectant that helps keep the bag dry.
This suitcase comes with Travelpro’s limited lifetime warranty, which will cover the cost of repairs if it’s damaged for one year after purchase.
Dimensions: 23” x 14.5” x 9”
Weight: 5.4 lbs

![flight travel bags Eagle Creek Gear Warrior XE 4-Wheel Carry-On Luggage](https://www.smartertravel.com/wp-content/webp-express/webp-images/doc-root/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Best-Small-Carry-On-Suitcase-1024x631.jpg.webp)
We love the Eagle Creek Gear Warrior XE 4-Wheel Carry-On because it’s deceptively spacious for its small size and light weight. It even expands slightly to give you a little bit of extra space when you need it. We’ve packed for week-long trips with just this bag and had no issues fitting everything in. Despite the diminutive size, this suitcase is packed with organizational features, like an exterior laptop sleeve and interior zippered pockets.
Made from 100 percent recycled, water-resistant fabric, this carry-on-sized spinner bag is easy to wipe clean and great for rainy destinations.
The Warrior is equipped with heavy-duty wheels that allow you to roll this bag over rough terrain—a perfect pick for navigating the cobblestone streets of Europe.
Dimensions: 21.65” x 14” x 10”

The Best Hardsided Carry-On Suitcase: Away The Carry-On
![flight travel bags Away The Carry-On](https://www.smartertravel.com/wp-content/webp-express/webp-images/doc-root/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/The-Best-Hardsided-Carry-On-Suitcase-1024x631.jpg.webp)
Away’s The Carry-On Suitcase has won many awards and is beloved by travelers, and for good reason—it’s smartly designed. The Carry-On is Away’s smallest suitcase and will fit in most overhead compartments and pass all but the strictest baggage sizers at the gate.
This durable carry-on suitcase is crafted from 100 percent polycarbonate for maximum impact resistance. It glides smoothly on premium 360-degree spinner wheels and features a telescoping trolley handle with two height settings for ergonomic maneuvering. The water-resistant shell safeguards your belongings, while convenient features like the TSA-approved lock, laundry bag, and color-matched luggage tag help streamline your packing routine.
Thoughtfully designed, the suitcase maximizes storage with a double-buckle compression pad and extensive interior organization like three mesh pockets and a handy hanging pocket. Reverse coil zippers grant easy access to the wide opening, and an underside grab handle aids lifting.
As a bonus, Away’s carry-on suitcase comes in a variety of beautiful colors, including glossy and matte options.

The Tumi Continental Dual Access 4-Wheeled Carry-On is an organized packer’s dream. The design of this suitcase keeps suits, shoes, clothes, and toiletries neatly separated and wrinkle-free. Convenient amenities like the built-in USB port and built-in TSA lock maximize functionality.
This is a great suitcase choice for business travelers, as the interior features a removable garment sleeve and fiberglass rod that allows you to hang a suit or dress inside the case without getting crushed or wrinkled.
The Continental Dual Access features Tumi’s signature smooth-rolling wheels and a 3-stage telescoping handle for easy maneuverability. Protective features like molded bumpers and side panels guard against impacts, while built-in tracers and TSA-approved locks keep valuables secured. With options for top, side, or bottom access via well-designed zippers, this suitcase optimizes packing efficiency for several days of travel.
Dimensions: 22.0″ X 16.0″ X 9.0″
Weight: 11.1 lbs
The Best Carry-On Backpack: L.L. Bean Approach Travel Pack
![flight travel bags L.L. Bean Approach Travel Pack](https://www.smartertravel.com/wp-content/webp-express/webp-images/doc-root/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/The-Best-Carry-On-Backpack-1024x631.jpg.webp)
A carry-on doesn’t have to be limited to a suitcase. For the ultimate in mobility, opt for a backpack as your carry-on. You won’t have to worry about climbing stairs or pulling a bag over rough sidewalks, and a backpack can fit under your seat on a full plane when necessary, avoiding the dreaded gate-check.
Our favorite carry-on backpack is the L.L. Bean Approach Travel Pack . Use it on its own for a short trip, or combine it with a checked bag (put all the essentials in the backpack and carry it on the plane) for longer journeys.
The Approach Travel Pack opens flat and can be packed like a suitcase, unlike a traditional backpack where you’ll have to shove everything in through the top and dig through the entire bag to find something buried at the bottom.

5 Simple Ways to Make Travel Easier in 2024
How We Tested These Carry-Ons
These are the carry-on suitcases that the SmarterTravel team uses on their own trips. We’ve taken them on countless flights, train trips, road trips, and cruises to find out the pros and cons of each bag.
When testing a carry-on, we consider the following factors:
- Size and weight
- Ease of transportation
- Organizational features
We’ve tested out numerous suitcases that didn’t make the cut, which helped us narrow the list to the best carry-ons worth investing in.
What Size is a Carry-On Suitcase
The dimensions for a carry-on suitcase vary by airline and generally change depending on if it’s an international or domestic flight. For flights within the United States, the most common size limit for a carry-on suitcase is 22 inches long, 14 inches wide, and 9 inches high.
The international carry-on suitcase size limit is usually 21.7 inches by 15.7 inches wide by 9 inches high, but this will vary by airline.
Note that airline carry-on size limits include all aspects of the suitcase, including the handles and the wheels, so be sure to check the total dimensions of your bag and not just the interior measurements. If your suitcase meets the size limit but the wheels don’t, it will not pass the carry-on sizer test.
Always check with your airline for the correct carry-on size for your trip, as it can change by destination.
Is There a Weight Limit for Carry-Ons?
There usually isn’t a weight limit for carry-ons on domestic flights within the United States (unless you’re flying on a very small plane). However, you must be able to lift the suitcase into the overhead bin without assistance.
International flights are generally stricter with weight limits and will weigh your carry-on bag when you check-in. These weight restrictions vary quite a bit by airline but generally range from 15 to 35 lbs.
What Can’t You Pack in a Carry-On Suitcase?
Remember, carry-on suitcases are subject to stricter security restrictions than checked bags. You can’t pack these items in carry-on suitcases, but you can pack them in your checked luggage:
- Liquids or gels bigger than 3.4 ounces
- Sharp objects (including knives, hiking poles, and large scissors)
- Certain sporting goods (such as baseball bats and hockey sticks)
- Self-defense items (including pepper spray and brass knuckles)
- Weapons (including firearms)

12 Best Personal Item Bags & Underseat Luggage in 2024
![flight travel bags Six black personal item sized bags, backpacks, and duffels sitting against a concrete wall with moss on it](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/personal-item-bags-2024.jpg)
As a steadfast minimalist one-bag traveler who avoids baggage fees like the plague, I’m pleased to share with you the best personal item bags of 2024.
I’ll admit it: I’m a bit frugal and curmudgeonly when it comes to paying extra for carry-on or checked luggage.
The money I spend on my plane ticket should mark the end of my airline-related expenses, dang it.
To help you find the right bag, I’ve rigorously tested and reviewed a variety of backpacks, totes, shoulder bags, duffels, and rolling luggage so you don’t have to.
And I stuck to upper-echelon brands like TOM BIHN, GORUCK, Matador, and Zpacks.
There are no cheap knockoffs here.
This buyer’s guide will also discuss the features to consider and which bags will best match your style of traveling.
Toward the end of this post, you’ll find a summary of permissible luggage sizes for various popular airlines.
Best Personal Item Bags of 2024
• Types of Personal Item-Sized Bags • Ultralight & Ultra-Efficient Backpack: Zpacks Bagger ULTRA 25 • Full-Featured & Comfortable Backpack: TOM BIHN Techonaut 30 • Lightweight Packable Daypack: Matador Freerain22 • Camera + Tech + Electronics Pack: Lowepro Flipside BP 300 AW III • Durable & Functional Duffel: GORUCK Aviator Kit Bag 2.0 • Minimalist Ultralight Duffel: UltraLiteSacks • High-End Personal Item Tote: Mission Workshop Drift • Tried-and-True Shoulder Bag: Timbuk2 Messenger • Ultimate Shoulder Sling: Peak Design Everyday Sling • Simple & Stylish Briefcase: TOM BIHN Daylight • Hard Cover Luggage with Wheels: Samsonite Novaire • Mini Rolling Soft Luggage: Travelpro Maxlite 5 Softside • Why I Travel with Only a Personal Item Bag • Factors We Consider When Choosing Products • Final Thoughts: Best Personal Item Bags of 2024
Types of Personal Item Sized Bags
Not all bags are the same.
Not all travelers are the same.
Each bag on this list has specific pros & cons to consider.
Here are the most popular styles of underseat luggage:
I like to move nimbly when I travel, and a wheeled bag or duffel makes me less agile.
I fit everything I need conveniently onto my back, so that’s how I roll.
Backpacks make life on the go much more doable.
I understand some people can’t wear backpacks because of back pain or other health issues.
Consider a duffel bag, tote, or wheeled suitcase instead if that’s the case.
Duffel bags are a great no-fuss solution to personal item-sized bag travel.
A duffel is ideal when you need extra space to bring a few extra things outside your main luggage.
They also help maximize your storage space compared to the other two options above.
A duffel can be slightly more annoying to carry than a backpack; however, you can fit a wider variety of stuff inside one since they’re reasonably malleable and fit into oddly shaped spaces (like beneath airplane seats).
I recently traveled to Vietnam for a month with only a messenger bag.
I’d have chosen no bag at all if I didn’t need my laptop and other work essentials.
I could fit my laptop, a change of clothes, and a few personal items in my messenger bag, but nothing else.
But not everyone is a minimalist travel junkie.
Even so, if you still have an extra bag in addition to your carry-on, a messenger is a quality solution and should fit all the stuff you need during your flight.
We’ve included some top-shelf options for wheeled mini carry-on bags that’ll fit under the seat ahead of you.
Soft- or hard-roller bags are best for those wanting more protection for their belongings or anyone who doesn’t want to carry a backpack or duffel bag for long periods.
If you’re flying frequently, however, a hard case may not be the best style of bag for you.
A roller case is awkward to carry, and not every destination is roller luggage friendly.
I’ve visited bustling locations where this luggage style simply wouldn’t work.
Ultra Lightweight Personal Item Backpack Zpacks Bagger ULTRA 25
![flight travel bags Black Zpacks brand backpack sitting on the concrete with wood panels in the background](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/slider/cache/1507c8ece3566f241b1c59374ee473a9/zpacks-bagger-ultra-2024.jpg)
MSRP : $249 Capacity : 25L Weight : 10.7 oz
Zpacks is far and away my favorite ultralight minimalist gear brand, as they’re consistently raising the bar for lightweight and functional equipment.
The Bagger ULTRA 25 is a backpack designed for fast and light trips, as it’s made from waterproof ULTRA fabric and weighs in at a minuscule 10.7 ounces.
This is my go-to travel backpack for trips I take without my bulky camera gear .
For trips where I do bring my camera along, I use the slightly more spacious and well-padded TOM BIHN Techonaut 30, the following recommendation on this list.
Between the two bags, I slightly prefer my Zpacks.
Thanks to its super durable, lightweight, and waterproof ULTRA material, the Bagger is perfect for ultralight gear nerds or anyone aiming to cut their pack weight and brave the elements.
It’s an incredibly functional and versatile option for personal-item-sized bag travel, and I can’t recommend it enough.
Why We Like the Bagger ULTRA 25: It’s as lightweight a backpack as you’ll find at 25 liters. It’s completely waterproof, has dual water bottle holders, and is surprisingly comfortable to haul, considering its lightweight shoulder straps.
What to Keep in Mind: This isn’t the most visually appealing bag, and it’s not cheap either.
Full-Featured & Super Comfortable Backpack TOM BIHN Techonaut 30
![flight travel bags Black Tom Bihn brand travel backpack on a wood floor](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/slider/cache/c4cd426608d45d0826f10eaeb4f805df/tom-bihn-techonaut-30-backpack.jpg)
MSRP : $392 Capacity : 30L Weight : 2 lb 9 oz
The TOM BIHN Techonaut 30 is a 30-liter backpack ideal for digital nomads like myself or for one-bag personal item travelers who crave the best gear.
Made from high-quality, water-resistant materials, it features a padded back panel and cushy shoulder straps for maximum comfort.
It can also be converted into a shoulder/duffel bag by purchasing an Absolute Shoulder Strap.
I love this bag’s isolated laptop compartment and the abundance of well-placed pockets that help keep travelers organized.
It’s a well-balanced bag that’s effortless to wear, easy to adjust, and can haul significant weight comfortably thanks to its internal frame.
My one nitpick is its zippered water bottle pocket, which can get a bit tight when the bag is fully packed.
I’d have preferred a more accessible pocket (or two) as you’ll find in the Bagger ULTRA, but I understand entirely TOM BIHN keeping to their sleek and zipped-up style.
All in all, this is a heck of a bag.
Why We Like the Techonaut 30: It’s an incredibly versatile, comfortable, stylish, and functional bag that can also serve as a duffel. We think it’s the perfect pack to consider if you’re pondering becoming a one-bag traveler.
What to Keep in Mind: The nearly $400 price tag is high, but think of this bag as a decades-long travel investment.
Packable Daypack Matador Freerain22
![flight travel bags Black packable backpack with a Matador logo against cement steps](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/slider/cache/82e2d58c69cbe85a3f1e59cf7c5c0df7/matador-packable-personal-item-backpack.jpg)
MSRP : $100 Capacity : 22L Weight : 10.6 oz
The waterproof Freerain22 packable daypack from Matador has a tiny footprint when compressed and can be stashed away in your carry-on or checked luggage.
It’s perfect for someone who needs space for extra items on the return trip and wants weatherproof protection when exploring.
Although small and lightweight, this bag packs a punch.
Its 22-liter capacity is excellent for carrying all your necessities, whether in-flight or as an around-town daypack.
It is, however, on the small side for single-bag travel, so look elsewhere if you’re only taking one bag.
Much like any other packable daypack, the Freerain22 forgoes padding on the back panel and shoulder straps to maximize its compression capabilities.
No, this bag won’t be the most comfortable on the list, but it is the most packable.
Why We Like the Freerain22: This bag packs down very small and can function as a daypack or a vessel to haul around extra stuff you accumulate on the road. It’s completely waterproof and has an impressive set of features.
What to Keep in Mind: There is zero back padding, and the shoulder straps are thin mesh; this isn’t designed to be the most comfortable bag in the world.
Camera + Electronics + Tech Backpack Lowepro Flipside BP 300 AW III
![flight travel bags Black and grey camera gear backpack](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/slider/cache/542756e12d475b49382ea384185fb5b8/lowepro-flipside-300-aw-iii.jpg)
MSRP : $179 Capacity : 27L Weight : 3 lb 3 oz
Depending on where and why I’m traveling, I like to keep my fragile gadgets close at hand.
Cameras, lenses, chargers, laptops, and tablets all deserve a safe and secure home during my wanderings.
If you pack expensive cameras and tech gear like me, look no further than this beauty.
Popular among photographers and videographers, the Lowepro Flipside BP 300 AW III keeps gear safe and snug without unnecessary frills that add to its size.
Its padding is generous but not cumbersome, and its back panel zipper access to the main compartment is an unconventional yet effective feature.
For rare trips that require me to bring all of my cameras, lenses, and tripods, I’ll pack my tech gear in this bag and throw my clothes and other belongings in my Bagger ULTRA 25.
Why We Like the Flipside BP 300 AW III: From its smooth zippers to its ample (but not bulky) padding, we love every single feature on the Flipside. This is an extremely well-made bag that will thrive for photographers and videographers.
What to Keep in Mind: This pack’s main compartment is accessed through the back of the pack. For larger photography setups, consider a bigger bag (like the Flipside 500 AW II ).

Durable & Functional Duffel Bag GORUCK Aviator Kit Bag 2.0
![flight travel bags Black duffel bag resting on a park bench](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/slider/cache/b285fd9aa79096e77796be4ab1424458/goruck-aviator-kit-bag.jpg)
MSRP : $150 Capacity : 32L Weight : 2 lb 9 oz
Pro travelers who need more features than the UltraLiteSacks duffel listed below should check out the GORUCK Aviator Kit Bag 2.0 for their next adventure.
It’s a sturdy and practical piece that’ll thrive during your travels, everyday life, and anywhere between.
This duffel is made from burly 1000D Cordura nylon and sports three exterior and three interior zipper pockets (six total) to keep your gear organized and accessible during travel.
It’s protected by a ‘You Break It, We Fix It’ guarantee, though it’s so durable, I doubt you’ll ever need it.
Though I don’t use my Aviator Kit Bag for one-bag travel (I definitely could), it has become my all-time favorite gym bag.
It’s remarkably durable and has the perfect amount of internal storage to stash my beverages, shoes, protein powder, extra clothing, and other odds and ends.
I love it so much that I’m actively seeking out my next piece of GORUCK gear.
Why We Like the Aviator Kit Bag 2.0: In terms of build quality, durability, functionality, and attention to detail, it doesn’t get much better than GORUCK. If you like traveling with a personal item duffel bag, this is the one for you.
What to Keep in Mind: GORUCK doesn’t offer free shipping, no matter how much money you spend.
Minimalist Ultralight Duffel Bag UltraLiteSacks
![flight travel bags Black duffel bag made from ULTRA material and an ULTRALITESACKS logo](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/slider/cache/c580794ea134ddbc4475061dd7193953/ultralite-sacks-duffel-35l.jpg)
MSRP : $149 Capacity : 35L Weight : 11.4 oz
Like the Zpacks Bagger, the UltraLikeSacks duffel is made from space-age ULTRA fabric.
And while this bag doesn’t offer all of the fancy features of the GORUCK duffel above, it’s still very functional for use as a carry-on or under-seat bag.
It’ll thrive for those who need a lightweight duffel that can haul serious loads.
I’m visiting Japan next winter, and I plan to use this bag to pack all of my ski apparel — gloves, insulated pants, puffy jacket, collapsible poles, boots — and will slide it underneath the seat in front of me.
Certain bags serve specific purposes in life, and this one’s calling is a gear hauler.
This is a no-frills duffel, which begs the question: why is it 150 bucks?
Well, you’re paying for cutting-edge materials, impeccable attention to detail, and hand-made-in-the-USA build quality.
This bag shouldn’t fray, tear, or explode when stuffing it, and it’s as lightweight and packable as you could ask for.
Why We Like the UltraLiteSacks Duffel: It’s just like our favorite ditty bag but jumbo-sized and fitted with handles and straps. It’s incredibly lightweight, fully waterproof, and will pack down into your main bag with ease.
What to Keep in Mind: With one main compartment and zero frills, this duffel is as minimalist as they come.
High-End Personal Item Tote Mission Workshop Drift
![flight travel bags Mission Workshop Drift travel tote](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/mission-workshop-drift-tote.jpg)
MSRP : $335 Capacity : 28L Weight : 2 lb 13 oz
What can I say?
I’m a sucker for top-shelf products that are made in the U.S.A.
Just like the Aviator Kit Bag I mentioned earlier, this functional tote from Mission Workshop offers second-to-none quality from a brand that keeps business in America and supports hard-working fabricators.
The Drift is tailor-made for professionals who demand performance from everything in life, including the bags they carry.
This tote will stash away your electronics, clothes, travel necessities, and other fixings in its array of thoughtful pockets and sleeves.
Versatile totes like this can be carried like a briefcase, slung over your shoulder like a duffel, and (you guessed it) slide underneath the airplane seat in front of you.
So, why not take all that money you’ll save on baggage fees and invest in a slick bag like this?
Why We Like the Drift: We’re gear snobs who value attention to detail and handmade products from high-end materials; this bag checks all the boxes for us. It’s a technical work of art and will last for a very long time.
What to Keep in Mind: It’s pretty expensive, but just like the TOM BIHN Techonaut , you’re getting an exceptional bag that’s made in America.
Tried-and-True Shoulder Bag Timbuk2 Messenger Bag
![flight travel bags Red and black Timbuk2 brand messenger bag](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/timbuk2-messenger-bag-2024-release.jpg)
MSRP : $129 Capacity : 25L Weight : 1 lb 11 oz
I considered traveling “bagless” on a recent trip to Vietnam, but I still needed something to hold my laptop and carry-on items.
I purchased a cheap knockoff messenger bag and quickly regretted not grabbing this Timbuk2 instead.
I won’t name names, but the knockoff bag was frumpy and dug painfully into my shoulder.
Reviews of the Timbuk2 Messenger told a different story, however: It’s comfy to wear, looks fantastic, and puts a little extra glide in your stride. It pays to buy quality.
Those who travel frequently for work would find a messenger bag like this perfect for hauling their laptop, tablet, cords, chargers, and other mobile office essentials.
Pair it with a well-packed overhead carry-on, and you’ll be in great shape.
Why We Like the Timbuk2 Messenger Bag: It comes in a variety of different sizes and colors, so you can pick the perfect match to suit your travel style. It’s reasonably priced, weather-resistant, and has top-notch internal organization.
What to Keep in Mind: It’s hard to find any nitpicks with this bag!
Ultimate Shoulder Sling Peak Design Everyday Sling
![flight travel bags Blue shoulder sling for underseat carry on travel](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/peak-design-everyday-sling.jpg)
MSRP : $120 Capacity : 6L Weight : 1 lb 3 oz
Being a minimalist and writing about minimalist gear can be challenging.
Not wanting to be weighed down by my possessions is constantly at odds with all the nifty minimalist gadgets and gear I found while researching these articles.
That rings especially true with this shoulder sling from Peak Design.
The Everyday Sling is a sleek and stylish shoulder sling that keeps your EDC essentials and valuables close at hand, safe from the elements, and sitting comfortably on the small of your back.
Savvy travelers could wear the Everyday Sling around their waist and rock a personal item sized backpack as they board their flight to avoid baggage fees.
Why not try? Doing so could add a few extra liters of storage to your minimalist packing setup.
Why We Like the Everyday Sling: We lug mirrorless cameras around when we travel, so we appreciate products that protect our expensive gear. This rock-solid crossbody sling comes in three sizes and is protected by a lifetime warranty.
What to Keep in Mind: At six liters, this is the smallest bag on this list. Don’t expect it to hold much more than a camera, tablet, snacks, and other small travel essentials.
Simple & Stylish Briefcase TOM BIHN Daylight
![flight travel bags Tom Bihn Daylight briefcase](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/tom-bihn-daylight-travel-briefcase.jpg)
MSRP : $93 Capacity : 8L Weight : 12.7 oz
TOM BIHN makes its second appearance on this list of the best personal item bags for 2024.
That’s because the Daylight is a well-designed and functional briefcase suitable for travel, work, and trips to the coffee shop.
The Daylight’s main compartment and multiple organizing pockets keep your businessy stuff exactly where you need it.
With comfy straps, well-placed pockets, and a lightweight design, you’ll glide around airports with ease.
Much like the Timbuk2 Messenger Bag, I’d recommend the Daylight for digital nomads and those who embark on frequent work trips.
Pair it with one of TOM BIHN’s exceptional carry-on travel backpacks if you’re feeling especially frisky.
Why We Like the Daylight: What’s not to love? We’re big TOM BIHN fans, and this bag highlights their commitment to practical, well-made travel gear. It’ll work great for coffee shop hopping with your laptop, tablet, headphones, and other essentials.
What to Keep in Mind: At the time of writing this, the Daylight is unfortunately out of stock. Sign up to get notified when it’s available again.
Hard Cover Luggage with Wheels Samsonite Novaire Wheeled Underseater
![flight travel bags Samsonite Novaire Wheeled Underseater](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/samsonite-novaire-wheeled-underseater.jpg)
MSRP : $220 Capacity : Not listed Weight : 6 lb 12 oz
Do you need extra protection for your belongings or have trouble carrying backpacks or shoulder bags?
If so, a classic roller bag might be the solution. This Samsonite Novaire Wheeled Underseater is a shining example of mobile hardside style.
It has all the classic design features of a roller carry-on, but it’s minified.
The Novaire fits under most airline seats while taking full advantage of every last square inch allowed by travel regulations.
Yeah, it’s a bit like a tiny tank, but that can be a good thing on the road.
Because it’s sturdy, rigid, and has wheels, you will sacrifice some space inside the bag to adhere to personal item dimensions requirements.
That said, it’ll work wonders for those who don’t want the strain of a backpack, duffel, or messenger bag.
Why We Like the Novaire: Wheeled underseat luggage is hard to come by, but Samsonite has executed it well. This bag has integrated USB ports, a feature you won’t find on any other bag on this list.
What to Keep in Mind: At 6.8 pounds, this is the heaviest bag on the list (and it’s also the most rigid). It might be a tight squeeze under the seat in front of you when fully packed.
Mini Rolling Luggage Travelpro Maxlite 5 Softside
![flight travel bags Travelpro Maxlite 5 Softside underseat travel luggage](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/travelpro-maxlite-5-softside-underseat.jpg)
MSRP : $170 Capacity : 26L Weight : 5 lb 8 oz
Like the Samsonite above, many people choose this style of roll-around bag because it’s often more convenient and comfy than totes, backpacks, and duffels that hang off the body.
But unlike the rigid Novaire, the Maxlite 5 is soft-sided and can be shaped and flattened as needed.
Despite its soft sides, the TravelPro Maxlite still offers plenty of protection.
It comes in a compact, 5-pound version that slides easily under airline seats and a spacious 9-pound model that should trigger gate fees on many airlines.
Choose your size carefully.
If I were torn between the hard-sided Samsonite and the soft-sided Travelpro, I’d lean towards the latter.
As long as you don’t absolutely beat up your bag, hard-sided carry-on luggage can be a bit overkill.
Oh, and did I mention the soft-sided roller is half the price?
Why We Like the Maxlite 5 Softside: Assuming you don’t overpack it, the Maxlite 5 Softside should fit like a glove underneath the seat in front of you. It’s well-reviewed, priced to sell, and backed by a lifetime warranty.
What to Keep in Mind: Like the Samsonite above, this bag will be a bit heavier and bulkier than a backpack, messenger bag, tote, or duffel.
Why I Travel With Only a Personal Item Sized Bag
![flight travel bags Black minimalist pack sitting on a metal light rail bench](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/personal-item-bag-2023.jpg)
I choose to travel with less. Less stuff means less weight dragging me down.
That makes it easier to navigate crowded airports or to flag down my Uber.
I shudder at the sight of folks pulling their entire wardrobe around in a 50+ pound monstrosity on wheels.
What’s the secret of being a light and nimble traveler?
Bring. Less. Stuff.
Obvious, yes, but packing light isn’t always easy to execute.
Years ago, I could be seen lugging around an 80-liter behemoth, but eventually, I embraced a minimalist lifestyle, and everything fell into place.
I recently returned from Europe after six weeks carrying only a 25-liter personal item bag.
I now save significant time and money by never paying gate fees for a bag.
I use the extra cash to treat myself to better meals and memorable travel experiences.
And I don’t miss the time I used to waste chasing lost baggage or standing shoulder-to-shoulder around the luggage carousel, hoping my bag would emerge in one piece.
The ‘secret’ of being a nimble traveler is to always avoid checking your luggage.
Commit to fitting everything you need in your overhead compartment bag or the personal item bag by your feet.
“Easier said than done,” you may say, but try it the next time you fly.
It’s liberating.
Factors We Considered When Choosing Products
What qualifies a bag for our ‘best of’ list?
After getting our hands on several products, putting them through their paces, scouring numerous forums, product reviews, and videos, we decided to use the following criteria:
Size & Dimensions
First and foremost, carry-on bags must fit in the space regulations allow.
Specifically, a “personal items” handbag, backpack, or purse must fit under the seat in front of you, not in the overhead bin.
Some budget airlines measure your bag at the gate by testing whether it fits inside an official sizing slot.
If it doesn’t fit, your only options are to pay a hefty gate fee to bring it or to leave the bag behind.
Here are the maximum allowed sizes for personal item bags for airlines that charge for a carry-on:
- Frontier : 18” x 14” x 8”
- Spirit : 18” x 14” x 8”
- United : 17” x 10” x 9”
- JetBlue : 17” x 13” x 8”
- Allegiant : 16” x 15” x 7”
- Norwegian : 15” x 12” x 8”
- Wizz Air : 16” x 12” x 8”
- Ryanair : 16” x 10” x 8”
- Easyjet : 18” x 14” x 8”
Note : Before you travel, confirm the current allowed sizes for the airline(s) you’ll be using. Specifications and policies sometimes change. The folks at NerdWallet created this useful policy guide if you have more questions.
Airlines that don’t charge for carry-ons are a bit more lenient towards the size of your item as long as it fits under the seat ahead of you.
For these airlines, having a carry-on and a personal item is convenient because it may give you just enough cargo space to prevent the need to check a bag.
Consider the weight of your empty bag.
The less your empty bag weighs, the less it contributes to the overall weight you’ll handle as you travel.
Your feet and shoulders must endure every extra ounce or pound you drag around the globe, so put your luggage on a diet and leave your barbells at home.
Materials/Durability
A bag is only as good as its components.
That’s why I picked bags made from proven backpack fabrics that will withstand abuse.
I also preferred double-stitching, YKK zippers, and heavy-duty puncture-resistant fabrics.
The most durable bags on this list are the TOM BIHN Techonaut, the GORUCK Aviator Kit Bag 2.0, and the Samsonite Novaire Underseater.
The least durable bags are the Matador Freerain22, UltraLiteSacks duffel, and the TOM BIHN Daylight briefcase.
Weather Resistance
I’ve dragged my stuff through a blizzard in Detroit, a downpour in Budapest, and a sandstorm in Africa.
At the very least, choose a bag rated as water- and weather-resistant.
And even with a sturdy bag, I still sometimes wrap some of my more delicate stuff in a plastic bag before it goes into the luggage.
The best bags provide more peace of mind.
The savings from buying a flimsy knockoff bag vanish as soon as that cheap bag splits open halfway around the world, and you have to replace it.
Travel light, but always bring the peace of mind that comes from spending a bit more to get a higher-quality product.
Which Underseat Travel Bag is Best for You in 2024?
![flight travel bags Man seated in an airplane with a backpack between his legs and a tag that says "CABIN GUARANTEED"](https://www.thepackablelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/best-personal-item-bag-2023.jpg)
It’s your turn to decide on one of these best personal item travel bags for 2024.
Will it be an ultra-lightweight and efficient Zpacks Bagger ULTRA?
A simple and stylish briefcase from TOM BIHN?
A futuristic tote from Mission Workshop?
Choose carefully because whatever you choose will be your joined-at-the-hip travel companion for the next few thousand miles.
And remember: when traveling, it’s best to avoid nasty surprises.
Do your research and only buy bags that will fit comfortably in the sizing slots of the airlines you actually use.
And travel light.
Surprise yourself with how little ‘stuff’ it takes to travel comfortably.
Finally, combine the money you save by avoiding luggage gate fees with the time you save by skipping the luggage carousels and treat yourself by splurging on the good stuff the next time you travel.

We’ve all been there – finally settled into the seat when you realize your sweater – book – whatever – is in the overhead compartment. Your choice is now to do without your needed item, or squeeze back into the aisle, jostling your neighbors as you wrestle your bag from the packed bin, dig through it, and return, chastened, to your seat. Or you could choose the best personal item bag, the one small underseat travel bag most airlines allow, and you’ll have everything you need at your fingertips. And won’t your trip be easier without annoyed seatmates? In this article we’ll answer your air travel luggage questions like “can a backpack be a personal item?” and will recommend our favorite tried and traveled personal bags.
Table of Contents
What’s the difference between a carry-on and a personal item?
Most airlines allow full-priced passengers to bring two bags on board – a carry-on bag that is stowed in the overhead bin and a personal item that must fit under the airplane seat in front of you.
![flight travel bags airline underseat area for your personal carry-on item.](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/underseat-bag-area.jpg?resize=463%2C404&ssl=1)
(NOTE: most airlines require those seated in emergency rows and those in the bulkhead seats stow all bags, including hand luggage, during takeoff and landing)
Examples of 2022 Personal Size Item specifications Be sure to check with your airline for your flight’s in-cabin allowance. And remember, some airlines have a strict weight limit for cabin luggage! American Airlines – 18″ x 14″ x 8″ (45 x 35 x 20 cm) British Airways – 16″ x 12″ x 6″ ((45 x 35 x 20 cm) JetBlue -17″ x 13″ x 8″ (43.2 x 33 x 20.3 cm) Lufthansa – 15″ x 11″ x 3.9″ (40 x 30 x 10 cm) United Airlines – 17″ x 10″ x 9″ (43 x 25 x 22 cm)
Remember to pay close attention to the airline rules for every leg of your journey! And remember that the rules for each airline are often different for domestic flights and international travel flights.

Consider YOUR air travel needs and carry ability
Everyone has different needs, so finding the personal-item bag is not a one-size fits all situation. Consider you specific needs to identify the type of bag that is best for you!
![flight travel bags](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/packout-personal-item.jpg?resize=800%2C597&ssl=1)
Contents: What do you need to have available during flight? (or want close at hand)
__ EDC – wallet, passport, travel essentials __ Cell phone, tablet __ Laptop – size? __ Camera – type, lenses, etc.? __ Reading material (for work or pleasure) __ Headphones – size? __ Water bottle, snacks
__ Children’s needs – diapers, toys, etc. __ Medication/first aid supplies __ Travel pillow __ Light sweater, scarf, or wrap __ Change of clothing __ Toiletry bag
Versatility: how can you use the bag during your trip (or at home)
Will you be using the bag for meetings on business trips? Can it double as a travel purse or stylish tote while you’re exploring a new city? Will it work as a day bag for cruise excursions? Or will it be stored until the return flight?
Can you use the bag at home? Strongly consider a bag that’ll be useful in your day-to-day life!
Physical Carry: Can a backpack be a personal item? What’s best for you?
Dave and I will usually opt for a backpack as a personal item. I have back and shoulder issues so appreciate the many options backpacks offer for carrying – on you back of course, but also one shoulder carry, hand carry, or with a luggage sleeve to mount onto your carry-on luggage. A good backpack of underseat size will fit what you’ll need on the flight as well as a change of clothes in packing cubes for freshening up (or in case your primary bag is lost.)
There are backpacks in all styles, but if you’re not a backpack person, don’t despair! There are some lovely small totes and even tiny rolling bags that will work great as a small underseat travel bag! But before you invest consider:
- Your destination. If you anticipate walking on cobblestone streets and climbing stairs with your bag, avoid a bag with wheels. If you will be heading to a damp climate, consider a water-resistant bag.
- Your abilities. Be realistic about what you can carry and for how long. Choosing the right size bag is essential.
If you are planning on traveling carry-on only , prioritize the capacity of the bag. The rolling bags that qualify as personal bag size have limited capacity compared to a duffel, tote, or backpack.
Budget: what makes sense
IF you need to purchase a bag, set a firm budget for your bag. There are good bags in all price ranges.
Balance durability with price. If you’re a frequent traveler, you might spend more to get a bag that’ll last for years. If not, find a bag that works for you at a good price and don’t stress the quality.
![flight travel bags Personal bag must fit under the seat in front of you on a flight.](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/personal-bag-on-flight-1-of-1.jpg?resize=863%2C603&ssl=1)
What to look for in a personal item bag
- Organization: Under the best of circumstances, accessing an under-seat bag is difficult. Having a well-organized bag with easy access to exterior pockets will make finding everything easier.
- Zipper closures: Secure your bag to avoid having your items roll around the cabin during turbulence.
- Multiple carry options: Carrying the bag as a backpack can be comfortable, but you won’t always be able to get that bag on your back (crowded subways…). Having other options is great!
- Durability: Your bag may see some rough carry on your trip. Buying a well-made bag will insure you don’t have straps break or zippers fail. (As mentioned above, if you don’t travel often and don’t want to invest in an expensive bag, there are many durable but inexpensive bags that might work for you.)
- Style: A bag that’s suited for the office is very different that what you’d bring to the beach…
Test pack your bag!
There’s no shortcut here. if you want to find a bag that’ll work as your personal item, you will need to see, pack, and test carry the bag. Borrow or buy the bags you are considering. (Make sure you can return the bag if it is not a good option.) Pack and test them at home, or better yet, in a mall where you can get a real feel for walking with a bag.
Make a packing list of what you expect to carry on your flight. If you plan on using your bag at home too, make a basic pack out for those uses as well. Carry the bag for at least 15 minutes to get an idea of how it feels on your shoulders and back. Practice taking the bag off and putting it on to see how easily you’ll be able to maneuver and get quick access to the bag.
Important : Be smart and considerate if it’s a possibility you’ll return the bag. Don’t put the bag down on dirty surfaces, remove tags, carry liquids, or do anything else that might damage the bag. A simple 15-minute walk around should leave the bag in an unused condition.
![flight travel bags personal item for camera carry can be used at your destination.](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/backpack-daybag.jpg?resize=800%2C533&ssl=1)
Disclosure: Unless noted, I have tried and tested these bags. If we have not had personal experience with the bag, we have had it highly recommended by other female travelers.
15 best personal items bags for every trip
For most US and International Airlines allow dimensions that add up to 36″ (90 cm) The following bags will likely be accepted without question. If you are pushing the limit on bag size, choose a dark color to be less conspicuous:
Best personal item bags with wheels
Anytime you add wheels to a bag it becomes more difficult to fit under the seat in front of you. (Especially if you’re unlucky enough to get a AV box mounted under that seat). But for some, having a rolling suitcase is essential. If my carry-on for the overhead compartment is a large backpack or duffel, having a rolling tote to load the larger luggage on makes getting around the airport a lot easier.
Double check your airlines luggage stipulations before using one of these bags! Some airlines are quite strict and will not allow even a small overage in width. Flight attendants might check your bag if it’s oversized.
Samsonite Underseat Carry-On Spinner with USB port
- Dimensions: 16.5″ x 13.75″ x 9″
- Weight: 5.6 pounds | 2.45 kg
- Price [2024] – $$ – See on AMAZON
I will always pick a spinner case as four wheels are so much easier to roll through the airport and along the narrow plane aisle. I haven’t traveled with this bag (yet!) but love the wide front packet, and the fact that the laptop sleeve is removable. There is also a USB port (just a port, no built-in battery) which is handy for connecting your phone charger to a battery pack within the bag.
Travelpro Max5 Lightweight Rolling Tote
- Dimensions: 16″ x 13.75″ x 8.5″
- Weight: 5.5 pounds | 2.45 kg
- Capacity: 32 liters
Travelpro is a great brand and this bag seems to be well thought out. It’s one of the lightest rollers out there, which is important as no matter that it rolls, there will ALWAYS be times when you need to lift the bag.
Something to consider…
Biaggi Zipsak Underseat Boost Underseat Expandable Luggage

- Capacity: 33 liters
- Price [2024] – $$
We haven’t tried this bag so cannot speak to durability but it looks like a good lightweight option. Let me know if you have experience with this bag!

I love this bag for light travel. Especially helpful if touring and bags are being ported from one place to another.
Pros : lightweight, made from 100% recycled materials, front pocket, zip and cinch closure, packs flat inside your luggage.
Cons : little structure and support.

Pros : very lightweight and roomy, one external pocket and a ‘shove-it’ pocket for stashing a jacket or scarf while going through security. Will attach to a larger bag like the Osprey Farpoint. This is a great backpack as a personal item for a hiking trip.
Cons : not designed for long carry. no dedicated padded laptop compartment.

- Laptop/Device Carry – 15″ laptop
Pros : two carry options, water bottle pockets on side.
Cons : little built-in organization
Disclaimer : I am recommending based on my experience with other bags in the Daylite line. Though I prefer the Daylite Plus Backpack, I include this bag as being able to carry it as a tote is better for many.

Pros : Multiple carry options (backpack or tote), breathable back panel, compact size is ideal for those with small frames, multiple color options
Best midweight personal Item Totes
My top pick for a classic underseat bag: Solgaard Voyager . This is an elegant bag, great for business carry or city travelers.
![flight travel bags](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/solgaard-weekender-800.jpg?resize=798%2C864&ssl=1)

Eco-Friendly – Made with Shore-Tex ocean bound plastic. Solgaard is a Certified B Corporation.
Cons : a bit heavy for carry capacity
FYI: This bag is appears to be similar to the Nomad Lane Bento Bag which we have not tried.
![flight travel bags Lo and Sons OMG medium tote](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/lo-sons-omg.jpg?resize=800%2C1000&ssl=1)
Lo & Sons O.M.G.
- Dimensions – 16.5″ x 13.75″ x 6″
- Volume – 25 L

This bag (O.M.G – Overnight Medium Gym bag ) is well organized with a separate compartment for shoes (or gym clothes), pockets within pockets (great idea for security!) and padded compartment for your laptop.
Pros: trolley sleeve, elegant design, comfortable messenger strap, separate shoe/dirty clothing compartment
Cons: Pricey, The height of the bag makes a tight fit under airplane seats.
Best midweight personal item backpacks
My picks for a underseat backpack bag: a tie between the stylish Pacsafe Citysafe 17L and durable Tom Bihn Synik 22 . Both bags have lots of compartments that make accessing things mid-flight easy.
![flight travel bags Pacsafe Citysafe 17L personal item](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/pacsafe-citysafe.jpg?resize=800%2C1000&ssl=1)
Pacsafe Citysafe 17 L
- Style : 🎒 Backpack
- Dimensions -15.4″ x 10.6″ x 5.9″
- Weight -1.54 lbs. | .7 kgs.
- Volume – 17 L
- Price $$ – See on AMAZON | Pacsafe
Pacsafe specializes in bags with security features. This bag has lockable zippers, slash proof straps, and RFID shielding. The large front pocket is a convenient spot to stash your passport and boarding pass going through security. Despite the focus on security the bag is elegant and suitable for business or city travel. Many women travelers recommend this as the best personal item backpack as it’s more stylish than some.
Pros : security features, wide opening, trolley sleeve, front compartment with built in organizations
Cons : Shoulder straps are padded but lightly. Wish it had a place to attach a shoulder strap.
A similar bag, but without the security features, is the Baggallini Soho Backpack . I was truly torn between which bag I should recommend, as they’re both stylish and easy to carry. The Baggallini is a bit lighter and less expensive, so if you don’t need the security features you might want to try this bag. However the zip on the Baggallini is not as robust.
![flight travel bags](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/bihn-synik-1.jpg?resize=800%2C1000&ssl=1)
Tom Bihn Synik 22
- Style – 🎒backpack
- Dimensions – 16″ x 11.4″ x 9.4″ / 410 x 290 x 240 mm
- Weight – 2.6 lbs. | 1.2 kg
- Volume – 22L
- Laptop/Device Carry – 13″ MacBook
- Price $$$ [2024] – $330
This is my go-to pack. The bag is well-made and very durable. The external pockets make organizing easy. I pack chargers, etc., in the chin pocket, and everything else I’ll need in flight in the other pockets. No need to pull out the whole bag to access anything.
Pros : 5 external pockets for ease of access, trolley sleeve, padded laptop sleeve, clamshell opening, organizational compartments, adjustable straps, comes in various colors
Cons : price, weight, the trolley sleeve (luggage pass through sleeve) can be difficult to use depending on the handle size of your rolling luggage.
NOTE: the Synapse 19 is a simpler version of this bag, with no laptop compartment or clamshell opening. It still has the great organizational pockets but is much lighter. This would be one of my top picks if I traveled without a lot of tech.
![flight travel bags Vera Bradley convertible backpack as a personal item for a flight](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/vera-bradley.jpg?resize=800%2C1000&ssl=1)

- Dimensions 16.3″ x 10.2″ x 7.3″
- Weight – 2.85 lbs. | 1.29 kgs.
- Volume – 20L
- Price $$ – See on AMAZON
This bag will appeal to Vera Bradley quilted fabric fans.
Pros : multiple interior pocket, opens flat for ease of packing. multiple carry options
Cons : No small, secure outside pocket for quick access to phones, etc. Fabric offers little structure.
Best personal item bags for camera carry
Camera bags offer different systems for accessing equipment. What bag you choose will depend on how YOU are comfortable working with your camera equipment. These three bags double as airline personal items, but there are lots of other great camera bags we recommend for travel.
![flight travel bags](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/lowepro.jpg?resize=800%2C1000&ssl=1)
Lowepro Photo Hatchback 16 L

- Dimensions – 18″ x 10.8″ x 7.3″
- Weight – 1.8 lbs. | .8 kg.
- Volume – 16 L
- Laptop/Device Carry – 8″ tablet sleeve
I love this bag for nature traveling. The camera basket is accessible from the rear of the bag giving extra security. To access the camera while standing, you remove the shoulder straps and swing the bag down in front of you.
The top of the bag has enough room for an jacket, snacks, and other items making this a well-organized bag to carry on excursions.
Pros : inexpensive, durable, functional pockets and device sleeves.
Cons : As this is on the smaller side, it only fits a minimal camera setup.
![flight travel bags](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/wandrd-1.jpg?resize=487%2C714&ssl=1)
Wandrd Prvke 21L
- Style – 🎒📷camera backpack
- Dimensions – 43 x 28 x 17 cm / 17 x 11 x 6.5 in
- Weight – 2.8 lbs. | 1.3 kg
- Volume – 21 L (25 L with the roll-top extended)
- Laptop/Device Carry – 15″ MacBook, separate tablet sleeve
- Price $$$ [2024] – $219 ($299 with photography bundle) see price on Wandrd | Amazon
Camera can be accessed from a discreet side pocket or by opening the bag fully.
Pros : well cushioned and ventilated back panel, water resistant, hidden passport pocket, luggage pass-through
Cons : price, especially as the photography bundle is an add-on
Disclaimer : I base my recommendation on the Wandrd 6L Sling which I really like. I am intrigued by the roomier Prvke but have not had the opportunity to try it. I like the slim profile and the potential for expansion offered by the roll top.
![flight travel bags](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/peak-design-zip.jpg?resize=800%2C1000&ssl=1)
Peak Design Everyday Backpack zip
- Dimensions – 17.5″ x 10.5″ x 7.9″
- Weight – 3.4 lbs. | 1.54 kg
- Volume – 15 L
- Price $$ [2024]- $189 See on Amazon | Peak Design
Peak Design Everyday Backpack zip comes in 2 sizes – 15L and 20L. This is the smaller size. Peak Design also offers the Everyday Backpack (latches instead of zips) in two sizes – 20L and 30L.
Camera is accessed from the either side of the bag. A continuous zipper allows the user to set up the zips as works best for them.
Pros : elegant design, cushioned handles on top and sides, internal dividers allow use to customize their setup. The bag comes with external tie down straps that allow you to carry a tripod or jacket securely. Definitely a high quality bag.
Cons : price, weight for volume.
What to do about a Personal Item if you’re traveling on a very restrictive airline
Some budget airlines are eliminating the personal item altogether for passengers in coach. In this situation, I stash my minimal flight needs into a smaller bag which will fit inside our bigger bag. Once onboard, I slip the smaller bag into my seat pocket for the flight. Many bags will serve this purpose but a brightly colored bag is harder to leave behind in a seat pocket!
![flight travel bags small backpack on mountainside. example of a personal sized bag](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/yaroslav-konyk-TS4eBHeIIq8-unsplash.jpg?resize=863%2C485&ssl=1)
Tom Bihn Packing Cube Shoulder Bag – our favorite bag within a bag. This lightweight bag has zipped closures, and can be used at our destination as a shoulder bag, a camera bag, or whatever.
A large cosmetic bag may be perfect for your in-seat needs, and is quite inexpensive! Test the size to see if your gadgets, and EDC fit. Consider using a toiletry bag . Some have hooks that you can use to attach to your tray table and pockets for all your gear.
Look for seat back organizers . Some are easy to stow in your larger carry-on but can be pulled out for your seat pocket.
Tortuga Setout 19L packable backpack – made from ripstop nylon material, this pack folds into a tiny package, but has mesh pockets for water bottles and a zippered outside pocket. (8 oz., 5 x 11 x 17, $39)
![flight travel bags Personal item bag travel testing](https://i0.wp.com/travelingtulls.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/personal-item-collage.jpg?resize=800%2C800&ssl=1)
How we tested the personal item bags
We reviewed the bags we recommend (or a variation from the brand) for carrying comfort, capacity, and durability, and style.
- Carrying Comfort: As a woman over 50 with back and shoulder issues having multiple carry options is important. Well-cushioned straps and a trolley sleeve were appreciated. The weight of the bag also came into play as heavier bags are more challenging to carry.
- Wallet, iPhone, iPad Mini, Kindle paperwhite, earbuds, charging cords in small cinch bag, sunglasses, medications, essential toiletries (toothbrush, lip balm, lotion, etc.), light sweater, water bottle, small snack, and [optional] clothing for one day in a compression cube
- Durability: Several of the bags have been in our travel rotation for years so durability is obvious. For those bags we tested only, the quality of the bag’s construction and the materials used helped us to determine durability. We confirmed our assessment by checking with other travelers who recommended the bag.
- Style: This is a personal preference.
I hope this A-list guide has helped you discover a personal item sized bag that’ll work for you. Have you found the perfect personal item for your travel? We’d love to hear your favorites and what determines what you carry? Please share in the comments!

Lug bags found at Luglife. com are great travel bags. They are sturdy, well-made and reasonably priced. Highly recommend these bags.
“no laptop compartment” is listed as a con for the Daylite Plus, but it does have a separate patted laptop sleeve. Is that an error or is a laptop compartment something different?
Hi Daniel, I am traveling right now but will check whether my Daylite Plus has a padded sleeve. I don’t use a case for my laptop so prefer padding in the backpack. But of course a padded compartment adds bulk to a bag so there is a trade-off. Thanks for the comment!

Carrying your gear is serious business for pilots, and any old gym bag, backpack, or duffel won’t do. You need a purpose-built flight bag designed to give you easy access to critical gear, from navigation charts, to headsets, to airport directories, and electronics. No matter what your style and budget are, Pilot Mall has a flight bag to suit your needs. We carry bags from leading manufacturers designed by pilots themselves. Choose from rolling cases, to totes, to classic bags, backpacks, and more. Traveling with all the gear that a pilot needs is never easy. But it’s a lot easier when you invest in the right bag.
Flight bags play an invaluable role for pilots and aviators. With pilot bags, aviators can have quick access to navigation charts, flight plans, fuel testers, headsets, airport directories, portable GPS receivers, electronics and much more.
When choosing a flight bag, it's important to make sure that it allows for easy access to the equipment one needs in flight. Flight bags should have several different compartments that can be accessed while in the air.
It's also important for commercial aviators to have access to the right type of pilot luggage. Since many commercial pilots will spend part of their downtime away from home, it's essential to make sure that pilot luggage is durable and spacious.

How to Pack for a Short Trip With Just One Personal Item on a Flight

I’m a budget traveler. If I have to choose between a cheaper plane ticket and a carry-on suitcase, I’m taking the discount and packing just what airlines call a personal item (usually a backpack or a small duffel bag).
Here’s how I found the best bag for the job →
I set out to test two different personal-item bags: the Everywhere Bag by Away and the Refugio Daypack by Patagonia .
I tried to fit the same amount of clothes and toiletries into each using a variety of packing tricks and tools, including compression sacks and packing cubes.
I came up with a hypothetical packing list as I planned for an ideal two- or three-day trip to a warm destination in the summer.
Then I packed, unpacked and repacked each bag four times , trying out different packing methods.
The Everywhere Bag by Away was sturdy enough to protect my things, but plan to pare down your packing list if you’re loading it up for a weekend.
It was most convenient not to bother with packing cubes or compression sacks, but I had to cut back on toiletries and leave bulky items behind. The bag was easiest to carry and compress under a seat this way.
I went into testing hoping that when the Patagonia Refugio Daypack 26L was packed smartly, it could be the ideal bag for personal-item-only travel. It worked even better than I’d hoped.
With packing cubes, I was able to fit everything on my list of items, and I even had room to spare. It was spacious, durable and easy to squash under a seat.
The best way to travel with just one bag? Pack lightly, regardless of which bag you use.
No amount of folding, rolling, twisting or squeezing will let you fit a substantially larger amount of items in the same amount of space. And if you’re traveling in the winter, it might be worth it to pay that extra $75 for the included carry-on.

Russia passenger jet crashes near Moscow during test flight
A Russian passenger plane has crashed near Moscow, Russia's emergencies ministry says.
It says the Sukhoi Superjet 100 went down in a forest, and all three crew members are believed to have been killed. There were no passengers on board.
Russia's state-run media report that the plane went down during a test flight following repair works.
Russia's has been developing the Sukhoi Superjet - a regional jet - for some time to replace Western-made aircraft.
Heavily sanctioned over its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has struggled to replace its ageing aircraft fleet.
I will fight for overhead space on a plane, but I shouldn't have to | Cruising Altitude
I’ll admit it. I will elbow you out of the way to get on the plane 30 seconds sooner and secure overhead bin space. I’m not proud of it, but I'll probably never see you again, and I really don’t want to have to check a bag on most flights.
I’m part of the problem, but I’m not alone. The bag wars just keep heating up.
“We travel a couple times a year, about four times a year, and we’re noticing that we don’t have any overhead space for our bags. When people are getting on the plane, they’re taking the first (space) available,” Elaine DiCresce, a retiree from Minneapolis, told me. “The last few times, we actually checked our bags at the gate. It’s just frustrating.”
So how did we get here? Why is overhead bin space at such a premium, and what can be done about it? Here’s what I learned.
Who sets carry-on bag rules?
Most flights have a 1 + 1 rule: one carry-on bag that goes in the overhead bin and one personal item that fits under the seat in front in economy and on most domestic flights. But these guidelines are flexible and not set in stone.
“The airlines make the rules,” Loulu Lima, founder of the Texas-based travel agency Book Here Give Here , told me. “This is real simple, and every airline has a different rule.”
That is to say, there’s no overarching regulation about what carry-on bags have to be, just that most airlines use similar equipment and set standards more or less the same way.
“Sometimes you’ll hear an agent blame the FAA, but that’s not true,” said Brett Snyder, author of the blog Cranky Flier and owner of the travel agency Cranky Concierge.
But whenever you fly, it’s a good idea to check the details of your carry-on allowance.
Lima said each airline has slightly different dimensions for allowable carry-on bags, and different tickets have different rules. Some basic economy tickets might not allow for overhead bin baggage, and ultra-low-cost carriers like Spirit and Frontier may charge an extra fee for carry-on bags.
What are the best ways to secure overhead bin space?
Unfortunately, there’s no great strategy here. The best way to access a bin on most airlines is to be in an early boarding group, which usually means having a more premium ticket, having frequent flyer status with the airline, holding the right credit card, or paying for access.
“I hate to say it, but sometimes I would join a credit card that gets you earlier boarding or buy that early boarding space. It really depends on the airline," Lima said.
How can overhead bin space be less competitive?
First, a brief detour to look at why bin space is so sought-after in the first place:
“We initially got there when checked bags were still free, but people were primarily concerned that their checked bag would be lost,” Snyder said. “When (airlines) started charging for checked bags, then it became even more important for people, because people don’t want to pay for it.”
Lima agreed that passengers mistrusting airlines is a big part of why so many passengers rely solely on carry-ons on their trips.
“We’ve all become control freaks to a certain extent,” she said. “There’s no trust that the bag is actually going to make it. Why do you think the AirTags and the Tiles and all of these other things are so popular these days?”
Airlines are aware that access to bins is competitive and frequently tout improvements that mean more space for rollaboards. In fact, just on Tuesday, United Airlines announced it was installing larger bins on its Embraer E175 regional jets, operated by Skywest. Regional jets, which typically fly short routes, are notoriously tight on carry-on space.
Beyond physical improvements to overhead bins, airlines can’t do much to help with the competition, though.
Snyder said airlines can encourage or require passengers to gate-check their bags but acknowledged that sometimes backfires, especially if they start forcing checks before the overhead bins are full.
And, of course, airlines can charge for overhead bin access, which is unpopular with passengers, but it does smooth things along at the boarding door.
“You have airlines like Spirit and Frontier, they charge you more to carry-on than to check a bag,” Snyder said. “You don’t see the same kind of mad dash that you see on other airlines to get on board just so you can claim your bin space.”
Yet, the efficacy of such practices is somewhat limited.
For DiCresce and her husband, Clifford, they’re left wondering why airlines don’t assign slots in the overhead bin like seats, and to be honest, I think it’s a fair question to which I don’t have an answer.
Expert packing tips
Until new innovations or some sort of sorcery make overhead bin space unlimited, we’re stuck duking it out with fellow passengers for whatever we can get.
Lima said that she usually travels with carry-on bags only and that you can minimize the space you need by being strategic about how and what you pack.
“I’ve gone to China and to Finland for three weeks and I’ve had different temperature changes,” she said. “I’m all about rolling and, as a plus-sized woman, my clothes are bigger than most, so if I can do it, everyone else can do it, too.”
For Snyder, the best way to avoid the stress is to just determine not to rely on the bins at all.
“When you travel without a carry-on bag, it is remarkably freeing. You, all of a sudden, don’t care when you board if you have an assigned seat,” he said.
And I’ve seen for myself that the checked-bag system is increasingly reliable. I’ll still fight you for that overhead bin space for now, but I may be coming around to Snyder’s view.

We’re always keeping tabs on what the true air travel experts are using these days, and the good news is that many of their tried-and-true products happen to be included in the vast array of discounts available right now.
Whether you’re in need of a new suitcase , a comfortable pair of walking shoes for sightseeing, or even a comfy outfit to wear during your travels, we’ve gathered the 16 best flight attendant-approved deals, starting at just $14, hiding in plain sight on Amazon for Prime Day. Plus, with brands like Samsonite , Apple , and Dr. Scholl’s in the mix, you can trust that you’re scoring the highest-quality gear at some of the lowest prices we’ve seen all year.
Travelpro Maxlite 5 Softside Expandable Carry-on Suitcase
If you spend any time in an airport, you’re likely to notice that Travelpro is often the luggage of choice for flight attendants, which is why it’s especially thrilling that this highly rated bag is currently on sale for just $145. The exterior of this softside suitcase is made from a durable ripstop material, while the frame is designed to be ultralightweight in order to make your travels easier. Just take it from one flight attendant , who dubbed it the “best lightweight suitcase,” as well as the “perfect roller [bag] because it can fit [in] any size plane.”
Dr. Scholl’s Women’s Time Off Lace Up Sneakers
After spending long hours on their feet during a flight, it’s no wonder that airline workers have become experts in comfortable sneakers as well. This podiatrist-approved pair from Dr. Scholl’s has well-padded insoles that support every step, while the lightweight design makes them easy to stow in your carry-on, without taking up too much space or weighing down your bag. One flight attendant confirms that these are the “best travel shoes,” noting that they “have searched high and low for comfortable shoes for exploring layovers,” and were thrilled to find that there was no break-in period with this simple pair.
Veken 8-set Packing Cubes
Any frequent traveler knows how important packing cubes are for maximizing space within your luggage, and flight attendants have thrown their support behind this set of eight cubes from Veken, which have earned more than 15,000 five-star ratings on Amazon. With four regular packing cubes, as well as a laundry tote, shoe bag, accessory pouch, and cosmetics case, this set covers all of your bases, lending itself to a highly organized packing experience. One impressed flight attendant shares that while their “trips tend to be 18 or more days at a time,” these cubes are able to fit “a full week's worth of clothes” into just one pouch. They even went as far as to say that as a “professional traveler,” they consider this set “a must.”
AceMining Portable Door Lock
Prioritizing your safety is of the utmost importance when traveling (especially alone!), and flight attendants’ favorite hack is this compact and portable door lock from AceMining. Currently sitting at just $15 on sale, this convenient lock can simply be closed into the doorframe of your hotel room, stopping would-be intruders in their tracks. It comes with two sizes to fit the locks of many typical doors, but just be aware that it only works for doors that open inwards. As one flight attendant notes , this device gives them “an extra layer of security” and allows them “to sleep at night.” Plus, it’s incredibly packable.
Hicober 3-in-1 Charging Station
Nobody enjoys traveling with a tangle of cords — especially once it becomes difficult to discern which charger connects to which device. So, this foldable three-in-one portable charger is a genius solution for travelers looking to cut down on their personal tech items, and with lighting-fast charging capabilities, it’s sure to be a hit. This charger has space for your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods, plus each pad contains a magnet that holds your devices in place. One flight attendant shares that they love how they can charge all of their devices “at one time without bringing several chargers,” plus, they confirm that it offers “fast charge, as well.”
EverSnug Travel Blanket and Pillow
If you prefer not to use the airline-issued blanket and pillow during a long-haul flight, you’re not alone. This two-in-one set from EverSnug is a flight attendant-loved hack for a reason. This compact set easily folds together and affixs to your suitcase handle for smooth sailing through the airport. One former flight attendant of 30 years shares that it’s “so easy to pack in a carry-on bag,” while the pillow “really helped as a lumbar support.” No matter how you choose to use it, this set is a travel must-have.
Iniu Portable Charger
It can be risky to rely on procuring a charging port at the airport or during your flight. Instead, have a portable charger at the ready and bring it with you during your travel days. This slim power bank has earned a staggering 85,000-plus five-star ratings, and is even currently on sale for 22 percent off, bringing the price down to just $18 for Prime Day. The charger offers high-speed charging and significant battery life, and this flight attendant even admits that they “use this pretty much everyday” before adding that “it is super fast, and holds enough charge to do my phone and my iPad a couple times each.” In fact, they like it so much that they “bought a second one as a backup.”
Emdmak Door Stop Alarm Two-pack
If you’re on the hunt for an added layer of security for your hotel or Airbnb stays, this two-pack of door stop alarms is an unbeatable choice while it’s on sale for a mere $14. Simply place the edge of the wedge against the door (it has a non-skid pad for a secure fit), turn on the alarm (there are three sensitivity levels), and gear up for a relaxing night’s sleep without fear of intruders. If someone does try to open your door, the wedge emits a blaring alarm that’s sure to frighten off the threat while alerting your neighbors for help. One shopper notes that as a flight attendant, they “spend a lot of time in hotels,” and this alarm is “easy to carry, super loud,” and even helps them “sleep more easily.”
Bagsmart Medium Toiletry Bag with Hook
Keeping your toiletries and liquids all in one place can make it easier to find and remove them from your bag when heading through TSA. For this reason, flight attendants swear by this hanging tote from Bagsmart. Complete with a hook that can hang from a towel bar or the back of your bathroom door to free up counter space, this bag also boasts four compartments with ample space for everything, from your makeup to hair products — and you can keep them all separate, too. One flight attendant shares that they “use it almost every day,” even referring to the Amazon bestseller as “the highest quality travel toiletry bag I’ve owned.”
Napfun Neck Pillow
Getting a good rest on an airplane is no small feat, but a supportive neck pillow will go a long way in making your onboard experience more comfortable. This memory foam option has maintained its bestseller position on Amazon, thanks to its packability and soft design. And at just $16, it’s practically a steal. When traveling on their own time, this flight attendant reveals that the pillow’s “memory foam is lovely and it packs very well.” They even went as far as to share that out of the several different kinds of neck pillows they’ve tried, this is their favorite.
Basic Concepts Airplane Foot Hammock 2-pack
Finding small ways to make your in-flight experience more comfortable can make a world of difference when it comes to lengthier trips, and this memory foam foot hammock is a great place to start. Simply strap the mechanism to the back of your tray table, and you’ll be able to enjoy extra leg room; which, in turn, can promote healthy circulation and keep you more comfortable while flying. One former flight attendant raves that this hack was “perfect for premium economy seats where there is extra legroom but no fully reclining seats.” With this nifty hammock, you’re effectively upgrading your seat, without the accompanying price.
Samsonite Winfield 2 Hardside Luggage Carry-on
Samsonite is one of the most trusted luggage brands on the market, so it should come as no surprise that flight attendants are also enamored with the reliable and durable suitcases, too. This four-wheeled spinner bag is currently on sale for 30 percent off for Prime Day, and with its side-mounted TSA-approved locks, telescoping handle, and high-quality exterior, it’s safe to say it has all the trappings of a five-star suitcase. One shopper even purchased this carry-on for their flight attendant daughter, revealing that “she loves how smooth the rolling is, and it has held up great with her daily travels.”
Perilogics Universal Airplane Phone Mount
Domestic flights generally don’t feature seatback screens for entertainment, so if you’re tired of holding your phone to watch a movie but still want the distraction, this simple phone holder will be a worthy addition to your packing list. It easily clips to your stowed tray table, allowing you to achieve the perfect viewing angle thanks to its 360-degree rotational capabilities. Plus, when it’s not in use, the device folds up to pocket-size. One flight attendant loves this hack for cross-country flights, calling it the “absolute perfect solution” for enjoying screen time on the go.
Apple AirTag
While lost luggage isn’t an everyday occurrence, it’s still always a good idea to have a way to keep tabs on your bag once it’s checked. For this, frequent travelers love Apple AirTags, and right now, a single tag is on sale for just $24. Slide it into an inside pocket of your suitcase, and you’ll be able to follow your bag on the Find My app from the moment it leaves your hand, all the way to baggage claim.
Lovevook Laptop Backpack
This spacious, comfortable, and practical backpack is a flight attendant-favorite for long travel days and short trips alike, and it’s all thanks to the 19-pocket design, convenient luggage sleeve, and overall stylish finish. With nearly 25,000 five-star ratings to speak of, it’s safe to say that this bag is a flawless choice for any adventures you have on the horizon this summer. In fact, after using this bag almost every day, one flight attendant declares that it’s the “best travel bag” they’ve “ever purchased.” This backpack is so roomy, the self proclaimed “overpacker” is confident they could “honestly fit everything I needed for an overnight trip in this thing!”
Prettygarden Women’s Summer Casual Loose Jumpsuit
Looking for the perfect outfit to take you from the airport to sightseeing without missing a beat? Well, look no further than this casual and stylish jumpsuit from Prettygarden. It’s both flattering and functional — and on sale for 25 percent off. The jogger-style pant legs are ideal for taking on the summer heat while staying cozy during your flight, and the slouchy, off-the-shoulder design is effortlessly cool and breathable. Just take it from this flight attendant who claims it’s a “favorite among our flight attendant group while traveling,” before adding that “it’s comfortable, inexpensive,” and easy to “dress up or dress down.”
