Here is MakeMyTrip flight ticket cancellation procedure:

Step 1: At first visit the website,

Step 2: Click on the Customer Support

Step 3: Login by entering your email id or mobile number.

Step 4: After that log onto Manage your Bookings.

Step 5: Here enter the MakeMyTrip Booking ID corresponding to your booking and the Contact Number that you gave at the time of the booking.

Step 6: Here you get the option to cancel your entire booking or cancel any specific passengers or sectors in your booking after you log in.

Step 7: Before you confirm to cancel the booking, please review the cancellation penalty and refund amount.

Step 8: The refund amount would reflect in the same account that was used to make the payment at the time of the booking.

Train Tickets Cancellation Policy

  • Customers can logon to MakeMyTrip Website for Cancelling their e-Tickets or Filling TDR. Cancellation can be done online and the refund will be credited back to customer’s Card/Bank account used at the time of booking.
  • Train Chart is usually prepared 4 hours before departure of train. For train starting morning (up to 12 noon), the chart preparation is usually done on the previous night.
  • Fully waitlisted tickets will be auto-cancelled by Railways after Chart Preparation and the refund shall be automatically credited to customer’s card/back account used at the time of booking.
  • Agent Service Fee and Payment Gateway Charges charged by MakeMyTrip are non-refundable.
  • Cancellations and Refund will be based on Indian Rail Refund and TDR filing rules. These rules are subjected to change by Indian Railways. MakeMyTrip, though makes an effort to keep latest railways terms and conditions and Refund Rules visible on our platform but cannot be held accountable in case of any changes.

1) Cancellation Charges for Confirmed Tickets

The cancellation charges for confirmed ticket are based on the time of cancellation and the status of your ticket. Detailed explanations are given below: -

  • If confirmed e-ticket is cancelled more than 48 hours in advance of the scheduled departure of the train, a minimum per passenger cancellation charges shall be deducted at the flat rate:

Note : Chart preparation time is the time for the chart preparation from the Train Originating Station or from the Previous Chart Preparation station.

  • No refund of fare shall be admissible on the e-tickets having confirmed reservation in case the ticket is not cancelled or TDR not filed online upto 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
  • No refund of fare shall be admissible on RAC e-tickets in case the ticket is not cancelled or TDR not filed online upto 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.

2) Cancellation Charges for RAC or Waitlisted Tickets

  • If RAC or Wait-listed e-ticket is cancelled upto 30 mins of scheduled departure of train, the refund shall be made after deducting clerkage charges of Rs.60 (plus GST for AC class).
  • No refund shall be granted on RAC ticket or Wait-listed e-ticket after 30 mins before the scheduled departure of the train.
  • If Confirmed reservation has been provided to RAC or Wait-listed ticket holder at the time of Chart Preparation, such ticket shall be treated as a Reserved Ticket and cancellation charges shall be payable in accordance of Confirmed Tickets (Clause 1) .

3) Cancellation Charges for Partially Confirmed Tickets

  • In case of e-ticket of more than 1 passenger, if some passengers have Confirmed Reservation and others are on RAC or Waiting-list, full refund of fare less clerkage charges of Rs.60 (plus GST) shall be admissible for Confirmed passengers also subject to the condition that the e-ticket is cancelled online or TDR is filed for all the passengers upto 30 mins before the scheduled departure of the train.
  • In case of e-ticket of more than 1 passenger, if some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on RAC or Waiting-list, and RAC or Wait-listed passengers are not travelling, a Certificate is required to be obtained from Ticket Checking staff in the train. Passenger is required to file a TDR for those not travelled passenger upto 72 hours of actual arrival of train at passenger’s destination.

Original Certificate is required to be sent through post to “Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi -110055.”

4) Fully Wait-listed Ticket (after chart preparation)

In case of e-tickets where all passengers are wait-listed even after chart preparation, auto-refund shall be processed into customers bank/card account after deducting Clerkage charges i.e. Rs.60 (plus GST in AC classes).

5) Refund in case of Train Cancellation

In case of cancellation of train, full refund of fare shall be directly credited to customer’s card/bank account used at the time of booking on MakeMyTrip.

6) Train running more than 3 hours late

  • No Cancellation Charges or Clerkage shall be levied and full fare shall be refunded to all passengers holding Confirmed, RAC and Wait-listed tickets, if the journey is not undertaken due to late running of the train by more than 3 hours of the scheduled departure of the train from the station commencing journey subject to the condition that - TDR is filed online before the actual departure of the train for availing full refund.
  • In case the ticket is cancelled or TDR is filed online after the actual departure of train. No refund of fare shall be admissible.

7) Refund if Railway administration is unable to provide accommodation

  • Where a railway administration is unable to provide accommodation for any reason whatsoever to passengers holding reserved tickets, no cancellation charge shall be levied and full refund of fare shall be granted to them if such tickets are surrendered for refund within 3 hours from the actual departure of the train.
  • Provided that when the train is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances such as accident, breach or flood, the ticket is surrendered within 3 days excluding the scheduled day of departure of the train.

8) Refund on Partially Used e-Tickets

  • If passenger terminates the journey en-route, a Certificate shall be issued by Ticket Checking Staff or Station Master. The original Certificate has to be sent through post to

"Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi - 110055."

  • File TDR online upto 72 hours after the scheduled departure of the train.

9) Refund in case of AC Failure

For AC Classes, if AC is not provided for part of journey then refund of fare shall be processed for that Part of journey basis below conditions:

  • If Ticket is for AC First Class then fare difference between AC First Class and First Class fare
  • If Ticket is for 2AC or 3AC Class then fare difference between 2AC or 3AC and Sleeper Class Fare.
  • If Ticket is for AC Chair Car then fare difference between AC Chair Car and Second Class.
  • If Ticket is for Executive Class then fare difference between Executive Class and First Class Fare.

In such cases, online TDR should be filed 24 hours of actual arrival of train at passenger’s destination station and the original Certificate (GC/EFT) issued by TTE at the time of journey should be send through post to Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi - 110055.

Refund will be processed through TDR only after receiving the Original Certificate (GC/EFT). IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Zonal Railways under whose jurisdiction the train destination falls.  After  receipt  of  the  refund  amount  from  the  said  Railway,  refund amount will be credited back to passenger’s account used at the time of booking.

10) Refund if Passenger made to travel in Lower Class

  • If the ticket holder of higher class is made to travel in lower class, refund of fare difference between booked class and travelled class will be provided.
  • Passenger is required to get the Certificate from Ticket Checking Staff (TTE).
  • File TDR online within 2 Days of date of issue of certificate.
  • Send Original Certificate though post to Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi - 110055.
  • Refund will be processed through TDR only after receiving the Original Certificate (GC/EFT). IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Zonal Railways under whose jurisdiction the train destination falls. After  receipt  of  the  refund  amount  from  the  said  Railway,  refund amount will be credited back to passenger’s account used at the time of booking.

11) Tatkal Tickets

  • Tatkal tickets are non-refundable. No refund shall be processed in case of Confirmed Tatkal tickets.
  • Refund in case of RAC and Waitlisted Tatkal Tickets will be as par Clause 2 - Cancellation Charges for RAC or Waitlisted Tickets.
  • In case of Tatkal ticket issued for travel for more than one passenger, some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on waiting list, full refund of fare, less clerkage shall be admissible for confirmed passengers also subject to the condition that entire Tatkal ticket is cancelled upto 30 mins minutes before the scheduled departure of train.
  • If Confirmed Reservation has been provided to RAC or Waitlisted ticket holder at any time upto final  preparation  of  charts,  such  ticket  shall  be  treated  as  confirmed/partially  confirmed  and Cancellation charges shall be payable as applicable to confirmed/partially confirmed tickets.

12) Tickets Booked in Premium Special Trains

  • Cancellation of both Confirmed and RAC Ticket is not allowed in case the ticket is booked in Premium Special Train.
  • However if the train is cancelled, full refund will be processed into customer’s account.

13) Cancellation of E-Ticket

  • E-Ticket can be cancelled online till preparation of charts and refund will be granted by PRS system as per extant Railway Refund Rules.
  • After preparation of charts, the user will have to file online TDR for claiming refund. The refund case will be decided by Railways. The TDR can be filed by the same user who books the ticket. After receipt of the refund amount from Railway, it shall be credited in customer’s account used at the time of booking.
  • No refund shall be granted on partially Confirmed E-Ticket against which none of the passengers has travelled, if TDR is filed after 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
  • No refund shall be granted on Partial RAC/Waitlisted Ticket against which none of the passengers have travelled, if TDR is filed after 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train
  • No refund will be granted in case of train running more than 3 hours late and TDR is filled with this reason after actual departure of the train.
  • In case of party e-ticket or family e-ticket issued for travel of more than 1 passenger, some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on RAC or waiting list, then in case of passengers on RAC or waiting list not travelling, a certificate shall be obtained from the   ticket  checking staff to that effect and refund of fare shall be processed online through TDR, indicating the details of the certificate issued by ticket checking staff and the online TDR shall be filed upto 72 hours of actual arrival of the train at passengers' destination and the original certificate issued by ticket  checking staff shall be sent through post to  "Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi - 110055."
  • The cases in which TDR are filed are decided by the Zonal Railway under whose jurisdiction the train destination falls. After receipt of the refund amount from the said Railway, refund amount will be credited back to customer’s card/bank account used at the time of booking.
  • Customer can Cancel their train ticket on MakeMyTrip between 12:20 AM to 11:45 PM only.
  • If customer is not able to cancel through web interface before Chart Preparation, customers are requested to send an email to railservice (at) makemytrip.com.

14) TDR Refund eligibility as per Railway Refund Rules

Please note that the decision about the acceptance / rejection or amount of refund will be taken by the concerned Zonal Railways as per extant Refund rules of Indian Railways and not by IRCTC or MakeMyTrip.

Confused about how to make an Indian Railways reservation for train travel in India ?

Indian Railways requires reservations on all classes of travel except general class. There are a few ways you can go about making a reservation -- online, or in person at a travel agency or Indian Railways booking counter.

Online reservations are carried out via the cumbersome and slow IRCTC Online Passenger Reservation website. Alternatively, travel portals such as Cleartrip.com , Makemytrip.com and Yatra.com now offer online train reservations. These websites are much more user friendly, although they do levy a service charge and not all trains are displayed.

As of May 2016, foreign tourists are able to reserve and pay for tickets on the IRCTC website using international cards. This is facilitated through Atom, a new online and mobile payments platform. However, foreigners must have an account that's been verified by Indian Railways. This can now be immediately completed online with an international cell phone number and email address, and by paying a 100 rupee registration fee. Also, do note that Indian Railways now allows foreigners to make online bookings under the Foreign Tourist Quota , effective from July 2017.

This step by step guide will help you through the reservation process using Indian Railways facilities.

If you intend to book online and haven't already registered, firstly go to the IRCTC website and register (here are the steps for Indian residents and for foreigners ).

Find Your Train

  • Indian Railways has introduced a new "Plan My Journey" facility on the IRCTC website. Click on it, on the top left side of the screen after you've logged in.
  • Enter the details of the station you want to depart from, the station you want to travel to, and your journey date.
  • If there are no trains running directly between the stations you've selected, you’ll get an error message and will need to try some different station names. Otherwise, you’ll be presented with a list of trains. Trains can be refined by type and class of travel.
  • Select the desired train and class you wish to travel by (and quota if relevant), and check the availability of beds. You can also see the train fare.
  • If there's no availability on your particular train, it will show as Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) or Waitlist (WL). If the status is RAC, you can still book a ticket and you’ll be given a seat on the train, but not necessarily a bed unless there are enough cancellations. If you book a Waitlist ticket, you won’t be allowed to board the train unless there are enough cancellations for a seat or bed to become available.
  • Once you've found a suitable train to travel on, click on the "Book Now" option under "Availability". You will be taken to the ticket reservation page, with the details of the train you selected automatically provided. Fill in the passenger details, and make payment.
  • A similar process can be carried out, without needing to log in, on the Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Inquiry website . Click on "Seat Availability" at the top of the screen. An Indian Railways Trains at a Glance timetable is available to assist you, although it requires quite a bit of navigating! Once you've found a suitable train to travel on, make note of its name and number.

For Reservations Online

Log on to the IRCTC website. If you already have your train details and you're an Indian resident, click on the "Quick Book" tab on the top left side of the screen, next to "Plan My Journey". If you're a foreigner, click on the "Services" option on the left side of the menu at the top of the screen, and select "Foreign Tourist Ticket Booking". Enter all the required train details. Select e-ticket (electronic ticket) and click on "Submit". Complete the electronic reservation form and then scroll down to the "Payment Option" section at the bottom of the page.

Choose how you want to pay and click on "Make Payment". If paying by international credit or debit card, select the ‘International cards power by Atom’ option under ‘Payment Gateway/Credit Card’. Your transaction will be processed and you’ll be provided with a booking confirmation. Print this out and carry it with you when you travel.

For Reservations Over the Counter

If you're booking over the counter, print out the reservation form. Complete the form and take it to a reservation office. Alternatively, you can obtain a reservation form at the office and complete it there. If you're a foreign tourist, try to go to one of the International Tourist Bureaus in major cities. These places are much more efficient and customer friendly. Be aware that you must pay with US dollars, UK pounds, Euros , or Indian rupees and an Encashment Certificate if purchasing a ticket there.

Tips for Making Reservations

  • All reservations, made both over the counter and online, are assigned a 10 digit PNR number. If you have a RAC or WL ticket, you can check the status of it on the IRCTC website by clicking on "Check PNR Status" under "Enquiries", and then entering your PNR number.
  • Cancellations happen often, particularly in the 24 hours up to departure. If you’re waitlisted, you’ll have the best chance of getting a bed in sleeper class as the majority of beds (and therefore cancellations) are in this class. Find out: Will Your Indian Railways Waitlist Ticket Be Confirmed?
  • The IRCTC website is closed for maintenance daily from 11.45 p.m. until 12.20 a.m. IST. Services are unavailable during this time.
  • The "Quick Book" option is disabled from 8 a.m. to noon. Choose "Ticket Booking" under "Services" instead during this time.
  • Bookings should be made as far in advance as possible (up to 120 days before departure), especially during the busiest traveling times. Otherwise, you’ll need to be prepared to be flexible about your travel dates and times, and class of accommodation. You may even find yourself on the waitlist, as demand greatly exceeds supply.
  • It's recommended that you book your tickets online to avoid the often frustrating Indian bureaucracy and disorderly crowd . However, the IRCTC website can be temperamental. It's common to get error messages right at the end, at the payment phase. If you happen to get an error message (such as "service unavailable"), try refreshing your browser or go back to the start and re-enter your transaction. Patience is the key here.
  • Sometimes the station name doesn’t reflect the place name (for example, the main railway station in Kolkata/Calcutta is called Howrah), so it pays to do a little research. You can do this by using the Indian Railways Trains at a Glance timetable .
  • Indian Railways operates a number of quota schemes. Last minute bookings are allowed through a "Tatkal" Quota on some of the most popular trains, whereby beds are released for reservation 24 hours in advance (previously 5 days). Foreigners can avail of a special Foreign Tourist Quota, which can also help in getting a bed during peak times. The availability of both quotas can be checked when you check the availability of your desired train on the Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Inquiry website. Taktal bookings open at 10 a.m. Follow these steps to make Tatkal bookings online.

  • Details of train name and number, boarding and departure points, and class of travel.
  • Passport or other suitable identification.
  • Credit or debit card (for online bookings).

Edit Passenger and Contact Details

We want to ensure you have your contact details up-to-date, so all changes are free. Don’t forget to add your phone number so that you can receive trip updates via SMS.

To edit a passenger’s name, click on "Edit/Remove Passengers". To edit the contact details of the main traveler, click on "Edit Contact Details".

If there is a fare difference from the original booking, you might have to pay to edit passenger details. Tickets are non-transferable; to remove a passenger, check "Cancel Trip(s)".

Reschedule Trip to a New Date or Time

To change the date or time of your trip, click on "Change Departure Date/Time" and confirm the new selection. Keep in mind that the departure time must be +15 min from the time of your confirmation. To choose a new departure or arrival destination, you must cancel your trip and book a new one.

Depending on the new trip, you might have to pay for the fare difference, or you’ll get a refund if the new trip is cheaper. You can only reschedule a trip at a time.

Add Additional Luggage

 You can add new checked or special luggage at any time.

All changes are subject to availability depending on the trip.

Cancel Booking

If you have to cancel your trip or part of it, refund options will be presented according to the conditions in the market you are traveling.

To cancel your entire booking or part of your trip, click on "Cancel Trip(s)". To remove passengers from your booking, click on "Edit/Remove Passengers". To cancel added seats or luggage, click on "Cancel Luggage/Extras".

All cancellations made within 30 days before departure may be subject to a cancellation fee (breakdown can be found here ).

Amtrak refunds: what to know (and how to cancel) if your train travel plans change

Amtrak is expensive , there’s no way around that. If you’ve booked a trip that you can no longer go on, the money you spent is going to be the first thing on your mind. Let’s take a dive into Amtrak’s refund policies:

Does Amtrak give refunds?

The simple answer is yes, Amtrak does give refunds. Most of the time, if you have to cancel your Amtrak trip (or Amtrak cancels a route), you can get a refund. That said, some tickets are only partially refundable , such as saver fares. Furthermore, the timing of your cancellation makes a big difference – if you wait too long, you could be looking at a hefty cancellation fee, or worse, not getting a refund at all.

Here are all the different cancellation reasons that are eligible for refunds

Amtrak’s cancellation policy is pretty simple, even if it does have a few different rules that govern how much you can get back. But before we talk about those rules, let’s look at what types of trip changes and cancellations are eligible for a refund:

1. Passenger cancellations

Plain old cancellations, no explanation required. You can cancel your ticket online or over the phone. Depending on the type of fare, and the timing of your cancellation, you may receive a full or partial refund. More on this, including which types of tickets are refund eligible, below.

Blizzards, hurricanes, earthquakes, and more – Amtrak covers areas that are plagued by all sorts of bad weather events. If weather prevents a train from leaving the station, all riders will be given a full refund. You can find more information about these types of events on Amtrak’s service alerts page . 3. Rail worker strikes

This is something most of us don’t think about, but was national news just a few months ago. Rail worker unions have a powerful chip to play: strikes. When a rail worker strike was predicted in September 2022, Amtrak preemptively canceled every trip outside the northeast to avoid the transit disaster that a strike would have caused. Fortunately, the workers got what they needed, and the strike was avoided. 

4. Damage to trains or tracks

A couple of times a year, an Amtrak train crashes . Often, the crashes are minor, but they all throw a wrench in Amtrak’s system. If a crashed train or damaged tracks makes your journey impossible, you should receive either a full refund or a travel voucher from Amtrak.

While Amtrak does give refunds for passenger cancellations, there are some rules and stipulations that apply based on the type of ticket you booked. Amtrak has a few different

Applicable to all Fares

No matter what type of ticket you buy, you can get a full refund within 24 hours of your purchase. We can just call this the “oops policy”, where if you book a ticket and quickly realize you don’t need it, you can get all your money back just as quickly. 

  • Within 24 hours: Full refund
  • After 24 hours: No refund, 75% voucher available
  • 15 or more days before departure: Full refund
  • 14 days or less before departure: 25% cancellation fee

Flexible Fare

If you booked a Flexible Fare ticket, you’ve got nothing to worry about. One of the perks about paying more for your journey is that you can get a full refund, whenever you need it, no questions asked.

Business Fare

Similar to the Flexible Fare, Business Fares allow full refunds – no fees, either – any time before departure.

Premium Fare

  • Acela first class: Full refund if canceled before departure
  • No fees, full refund if canceled 121 days or more before departure
  • 25% cancellation fee if canceled between 15 and 120 days before departure
  • 25% fee and a 75% voucher if canceled 14 days or less before departure

Illness waivers: how to get a full refund on Amtrak tickets for health reasons

Amtrak waives all fees and policies related to cancellations for people who have a medical reason for canceling their trip. If you experience a sudden illness or injury, all you need to do is provide a doctor’s note when you cancel; then, Amtrak will provide a full refund, regardless of the type of ticket you bought or how many days there are before departure.

Does Amtrak charge you for changing your ticket?

Amtrak does not currently levy a “change fee” if you need to modify your journey. For example, if you need to change your departure station, destination station, or trip dates, you won’t be charged an extra fee for doing so. While you may have to make an additional payment if the changes make your trip more expensive than the original booking, that’s not the same as a change fee. For any change made before December 31, 2023, there will be no change fee. I’ll update this section if Amtrak modifies its “change fee” policy.

How to cancel Amtrak tickets and (hopefully) get a refund

Being able to get a refund hinges upon being able to cancel the ticket. Here’s how you can cancel an amtrak ticket, either online or over the phone.

  • First, head to amtrak.com
  • Then, click the View/Edit button
  • Finally, click “cancel trip” and the Amtrak site will guide you the rest of the way.

  • Once you’ve selected your trip, click “Cancel Trip” and follow the prompts from there.

Over the Phone

  • Call Amtrak at (1-800-872-7245)
  • Have your name, phone number, address, and reservation number ready
  • Say “Reservations” (you can say it right away to bypass having to listen to all the other options)
  • Say “cancel/cancellation/I’d like to cancel” – the automated assistant will recognize what you say and take you to the next step. 
  • Say your reservation number, and continue following the instructions given to cancel your trip.
  • Alternatively, you can say “help” to be quickly put through to an Amtrak customer service rep (they’re really helpful and one of my favorite things about Amtrak)

How long do Amtrak refunds take to process?

Because Amtrak works with your bank to move the refunded money back into your account, and different banks have different transfer processes, there is no one answer to this question. That said, most people receive their money within 5-8 business days. 

I canceled a ticket late last year and got my money back in less than 5 business days; if you’re waiting longer than 10 business days, it’d be smart to call Amtrak and see if they can help you get your refund quicker.

Next: Does Amtrak have Wi-Fi? Yes, but it depends on the train.

If you’ve booked an auto train ticket, the same cancellation fee applies to your vehicle as applies to your passenger ticket. That’s a fancy way of saying the money you spent on adding a vehicle to your journey will be refunded according to the same rules as other types of cancellations.

If you cancel an Amtrak ticket that charges a fee, you’ll be charged between $5 and $250, depending on the original ticket price.

How to Cancel Reservation with Amtrak Train

If you purchased your ticket online.

Canceling reservation is easy if you purchased online through Amtrak Train’s main website . 

Cancellation Policy of Amtrak Train

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Log into your account. 

Step 2: Click the ‘My Account ’ at the top of the page.

Step 3: The ‘View/Edit’ button will bring you to your reservations.

Step 4: After that, you can click the ‘ Cancel Trip ’ button. 

Step 5: You will see the instructions provided after that. Just follow those.

Note: If you made changes to your trip after booking it online, you may not be able to cancel it online.

If you purchased your ticket elsewhere

Even if you purchased or made reservations using a credit card, eVoucher , station agent, Quik-Trak Kiosk, or on the phone, you can still cancel it through Amtrak Train’s main website . 

Step 1: Click ‘ Modify Trip ’ at the top right corner of any page of their website.

Step 2: Enter your reservation number and email or phone number used. 

Step 3: Select ‘ Find Trip’ .

Please note that there may be cancellation fees that will be applied. Also, not all tickets are eligible for cancellation, it may vary on the fare you selected.

Amtrak Train offers passengers the freedom to choose the fare that best suits them. People can choose the fare that’s best for your travel needs.

Saver Fares

Types of Service: Reserved Coach, Acela Business Class

  • The cheapest among other fares.
  • It has limited availability so advance booking is required.
  • It’s non-refundable 24 hours or more after booking.
  • Changes or upgrades are not applicable.
  • Upgrade Coupons are also not allowed.
  • Passenger type and promotional discounts are not valid.

Value Fares

Types of Service: Unreserved Coach, Reserved Coach, Acela Business Class

  • It also has limited availability
  • Available on all routes of Amtrak.
  • Full refund to the original form of payment or eVoucher without fees if the cancellation was made 15 days or more before departure. 
  • If canceled less than 14 days before departure, there will be a 25% fee charged.
  • It’s free of charge if changed 15 days or more before departure.
  • If changed less than 14 days before departure, there will be a 15% fee charged.
  • No fee for unreserved tickets.
  • The change fee is waived for Select Executive members.

Flexible Fares

  • Offers a full refund to the original form of payment or eVoucher without fees if canceled before departure.
  • It doesn’t require change fees as well.

If you plan to frequently change your reservation even at the last minute, but still want a full refund, Flexible Fares is the best option.

Business Fares

Types of Service: Acela First Class

  • Amtrak Guest Rewards members can earn a 25% qualifying bonus point for Business Class travel.

Premium Fares

  • Amtrak Guest Rewards members can earn a 50% qualifying bonus point for Acela First Class travel.

Types of Service: Sleeper Accommodation

How to Change or Cancel a China Train Ticket

If you booked a train ticket but your plans have changed, you can submit a request to change or cancel your ticket. To ensure your request can be processed, please be sure to submit it before your train's departure time within the time period from 08:00 to 20:00 (GMT+8).

If you booked a train ticket with Trip.com and it hasn’t been issued, you can cancel your train ticket on Trip.com. If you've already picked up your paper train ticket (for reimbursement purposes), you'll need to go to a station ticket window to change the ticket or get a refund.

How to Change a China Train Ticket

If you've already picked up your paper train ticket (for reimbursement purposes), go to the ticket change window at any mainland China railway station with the ID you used for your booking. No handling fee will be charged for the first change you make.

If your train ticket has not been issued, please cancel your booking and make a new one.

To cancel a train ticket that hasn't been issued yet, sign in to Trip.com, go to your account, and then select My Bookings > Trains . Cancel the train ticket booking by selecting the Cancel Booking button. You can make a new train ticket booking here . How to Cancel and Refund China Train Tickets Online

If you haven’t picked up your train ticket, it can be canceled online. To do so, sign in to Trip.com, go to your account, and then select My Bookings > Trains . Cancel the train ticket booking by selecting the Cancel Booking button. Tickets can be canceled online from 08:00 to 20:00 (GMT+8).

Please note that tickets for trains departing within 25 minutes cannot be canceled online. If you've already picked up paper tickets, cancellations can be made at the refund window of any railway station in mainland China (see the instructions below).

How to Cancel and Refund China Train Tickets at the Railway Station

If you've already picked up your paper train ticket (for reimbursement purposes), you can get a refund at any railway station in mainland China. To get a refund, go to the refund window with your paper train tickets and the ID you used for your booking.

Handling Fees for Canceled/Refunded China Train Tickets

Trip.com follows the cancellation policies of China’s national rail operator, China Railway. No handling fee is charged if the train ticket is canceled at least 8 days before the train’s departure date.

A 5% handling fee (minimum CNY2) will be charged per train ticket for any cancellation made between 48 hours and 7 days before departure; a 10% handling fee will be charged per train ticket for any cancellation made between 24 hours and 47 hours before departure; and a 20% handling fee will be charged per train ticket for cancellations made less than 24 hours before departure.

The refund will be returned to your original account of payment within 7 working days. The refund amount is subject to China’s railway authority. The date you receive the refund is subject to your bank or credit card provider.

How to Cancel a Flight Within 24 Hours of Booking—and Get a Full Refund

I n today’s travel landscape—with unpredictable weather , days-long flight delays , and so many other factors that can affect your desire to take a trip—knowing how to get a refund for airfare is of the utmost importance.

In the years since the pandemic began, many airlines have nixed fees for changing or canceling flights, making it easier than ever for passengers to adjust itineraries for free or cancel and receive an airline voucher. But did you know there’s a way to cancel a flight and get a full refund in the original form of payment? It’s possible thanks to the 24-hour flight cancellation rule.

The Department of Transportation’s 24-hour refund regulation states that all airlines flying in the U.S., even international carriers, must issue a full refund if the reservation is canceled within a one-day window of booking. Here’s what to know about this helpful policy for when you want to cancel a flight within 24 hours.

What exactly is the 24-hour flight cancellation rule?

It’s a customer service standard set by the Department of Transportation that says airlines must let travelers hold a reservation at the quoted fare for 24 hours without payment, or allow a purchased reservation to be canceled within 24 hours without penalty and with a full refund to the original form of payment. All airlines operating to, from, and within the U.S. must comply with the 24-hour rule. The clock starts ticking on the 24 hours once the ticket purchase has been made.

The regulation is especially useful to fliers looking for the cheapest airfares or who want to jump on a flight deal that might soon disappear. “Taking advantage of the 24 Hour Rule is a great way to give yourself a bit more time to consider the trip altogether without losing savings,” says Katy Nastro, spokesperson and travel expert at travel site Going. For example, Nastro says that her team recently found an amazing flight deal to Paris from NYC for only $230 roundtrip. “Deals like that do not come around often, nor do they last. Instead of waiting for friends and family to give the green light on a trip, you can book the tickets to Paris, and then discuss details knowing you can cancel for a full refund within that 24 hour time frame if needed.”

Utilizing the rule is also a great way to ensure you’re getting the cheapest price of the day, according to Nastro. “Say the ticket to Paris drops even further before that 24 hours is up. You can book that new flight, cancel the old, and have just saved even more money on the ticket,” she says.

The rules also say that airlines are required to make prompt refunds, meaning they should return your money within seven business days for credit card payments and within 20 days for payments made with cash or check.

The 24-hour refund rule is applicable to all fares, even those restrictive basic economy tickets or other typically non-refundable bookings. However, there are some cases that are exempt from the refund guidelines.

The exceptions

It’s important to note that the DOT rule does not apply in a handful of cases. The refund policy only applies to bookings made at least seven days or more before departure. But if you make a reservation less than seven days before the flight’s departure date, the 24-hour rule does not cover your booking—meaning you have no grace period to cancel and receive a full refund.

Additionally, airlines have the choice to either allow customers to hold their fare without payment for 24 hours or issue a refund if the reservation is canceled within 24 hours of purchase. (American Airlines, for example, has an option to put the fare on hold instead of refunding payments.) They do not have to do both. So if you already held your fare for one day without payment, and you decide to purchase that ticket, you won’t be eligible for a refund under the DOT regulation should you decide to cancel.

If you’re looking to make other gratis changes to your ticket—like changing the date of the ticket or correcting a misspelling in your name —you might be out of luck. Airlines aren’t required under the regulation to make those types of changes for free. In those cases, contact your airline to see what type of flexibility they might be able to offer you. But in most cases, you would likely need to cancel the fare (for a full refund) and rebook the ticket.

The 24-hour flight cancellation rule also only applies to fares purchased directly from an airline as well. So if you’re buying through an online travel agency, like Orbitz or Expedia, the DOT's rule won’t cover your ticket, and your reservation will be subject to the third-party company’s refund policy.

“Online travel agencies may also let you get a refund within 24 hours of booking, but not all do, so definitely read their policies before purchasing,” says Nastro.

If you booked the tickets through a travel agent , the DOT advises to first contact your travel agent before calling the airline for a refund.

What to do if an airline isn’t following the 24-hour rule

According to the DOT, airlines have to be upfront with customers about the one-day refund grace period both on their websites and when they are contacted by passengers. This means that not only does an explanation of the 24-hour reservation requirements need to be visible in the refund policy sections of an airline’s website (like on any terms and conditions pages or booking pop-up windows), but customer service representatives must also explain the rule to passengers who call them with questions about canceling.

Fortunately, airlines largely seem to cooperate with this regulation. “To my knowledge, I have not heard of a passenger getting denied a [24-hour] refund when they were entitled to one,” Nastro says.

Any airline (including international carriers ) operating flights to or from the U.S. that does not follow these guidelines is seen to have “unfair and deceptive” practices, says the DOT. If customers suspect the airline isn't following the rule, they can file a consumer complaint on the Department’s website.

Submitting a formal complaint online might feel like screaming into the void, but rest assured that the agency actually does read and act on them. In 2022, for example, the DOT secured $600 million in airline refunds for travelers who had their flights canceled or significantly delayed at the onset of the pandemic and didn’t get their money back; it also fined the six offending airlines a collective $7.5 million for not issuing the refunds in a timely manner.

So no matter your airline or your destination, it does pay to know the cancellation rules for your fare.
