The atmosphere was wonderful! The staff was friendly and extremely pleasant. However the food took forever my party and I ordered our food after 8pm and received our food after 10pm the dj packed up and left before receiving our food. On top of that... my food came out cold, I packed it to go. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't enjoy my food because everyone said that their food was awesome. More

We came here for our last lunch as it was close to our hotel. It is just across from the beach, this place is relatively quiet which made it a lovely little lunch spot. We both opted for their burgers as well wanted something filling... before our flight home. The burgers were really quite delicious, they tasted fresh and were extremely filling. We had it was sweet potato fries which were also cooked to perfection. The staff were very welcoming and hospitable, and each table had a fan in order to cool yourself down during the hotter hours. We were served quickly and whilst our food took a while was worth the wait. More

Upon our arrival, we wandered over to Travellers. The food and friendliness were wonderful. We’ve been back a few times since. Due to the pandemic, the owner started take-out only, yesterday. We went over to see if they were open. The owner offered to open... up for us because of the size of our group. Then, 13 of us sat down and enjoyed amazing meals. It was a skeleton crew but every dinner was as delicious as before. Which items have we eaten? We’ve ordered practically every item on their menu. My personal favourites are crack conch, shrimp fettuccine, conch chowder, conch roti and the naked wings. The Coconut Shrimp were the best I’ve had. Travellers’ outstanding owner and staff, paired with the spectacular ocean view make for a wonderful restaurant that everyone should visit when on New Providence. Thanks Dave!!! More

There was an excessive long wait for our food; over 90 minutes and the server never came to check on us. Persons who came after us were served before us even though our order was not complicated. There was a faint horrible smell of dead... rats lingering in the atmosphere as the seating is outside; it was not obvious until we were seated and was not consistent however, it was upsetting on the whole. It must have been dead some distance away and within the vegetation nearby; but you could smell it from time to time. My wife did not want to be rude and leave as I suggested. The server never apologized for the late wait for the food; which I couldn't eat anyway due to the amount of flies that attacked our foods. the flies were horrible and all the food was ruined if it wasn't before. After this horrible service; the waitress insisted that we must add on a tip despite the fact that 15 % gratuity is automatically imposed on the bill. 10 % VAT is first applied and then 15 % gratuity is applied. I don't understand that but I refused to pay any additional tip except that which is mandatory ( 15 %). I will never return to this restaurant and advise anyone to steer clear from them. Do not be deceived by the view this restaurant should not be open to the public. More

Recently went out for a girls day out for brunch. We sat ourselves. Some of us have allergies or have cut out certain foods from our diet, the likely available choices on the menu they had already ran out for the morning it was only... 11am. So we chose what we could. The server took our orders and brought out our drinks. We were talking so much we didn't even realize that they had not brought our breakfast as yet. 30 minutes later. I asked one of the waiters if they can kindly check on our order please. (Not the same lady who took our original order becauseshe was no where to be found) we haven't seen her for a long while. When the other waiter returned from the kitchen she said our order should be ready shortly. I asked her if "***" was there. I had known him to be the owner/manager of the business. She indicated that he was traveling. Immediately after I mentioned her boss's name the food was out. Everyone was asking if there was anything else we needed. Amazingly the original waiter had returned as well. Two person's in my party ordered the guava pancakes. The guava pancakes is supposed to come with a guava sauce not syrup as I have had it previously. So I asked the waiter to please change it to the guava sauce. So once again I had to wait for her to get the sauce from the kitchen and I'm staring hungrly at my food and can't eat it until she brings back the sauce. She brought it back. Overall food was poor, no one enjoyed it. The service was poor the wait time is ridiculous the view is awesome but we will never return. Ultimately it's not the servers fault if the kitchen is behind but my suggestion is communicate that to the customers. Fill our drinks ask if there is anything else you can assist us with. We would've felt more inclined to buy more drinks because we were just there to have fun. Also only when I mentioned the boss's name I started to see them try to expedite our orders. Horrible experience. Do not recommend. More

Went there for lunch, waited 20 minutes for a waitress to come over and asked if we were being served, then she went to 2 other tables same thing no service and we met those people there. Drinks came 10 minutes after, not what we... ordered, so had to wait another 10 minutes to get the right order. Food came an hour later, which were mostly good except my medium-well burger was rare and was too hungry to send back. Would have left but we had drove quite a distance to get there and was too hungry to start over at another restaurant... overall not a good experience and had a terrible upset stomach the next day. More

3 strikes and out. The staff is nonchalant absolutely no customer service. first two times i said off day but third time its a habit. The server came to my table after 10 minutes of sitting and said what y’all having i replied I’ll have... something when you can bring us some menus. Menus came he came back asking for drinks we ordered drinks and fritters. Boom drinks came but the fritters came 25min later and that was the last time I saw or heard from the server. Never ordered our meals nothing. Its a nice location but customer care is a disaster More

The reviews were mixed but we decided to try it since it was close to our rental. My daughters and went for dinner on a Monday evening. The servers were nice but clearly overwhelmed and understaffed. They were literally running food out and despite that... the wait times for service were quite long, about 45 minutes for our food. I can’t imagine what it’s like on a weekend. The couple after us sat for 10 minutes with no one providing drinks or taking their order. They left. The food was decent but not spectacular. They were out of many items. There are better options for authentic Bahamian food. They need to invest in more servers and cooks to improve the quality of food and service. More

I have to eat gluten-free and ordered the grilled shrimp and sweet potato fries and they were very good. The shrimp were juicy, not dried out. The second time we went here I had the grilled citrus fish and cole slaw. Excellent again. The whole... fish absorbed the citrus marinade and there was a little bit of heat too. Both my servers knew their menu well enough to inform me whether a dish was gluten-free. The prices are reasonable. The only downside to this restaurant is that they had outdoor seating only. But they did bring a fan to our table which helped. More

After a long day of travel we went here for our first night’s dinner as it was so close to our house. Started out well with views from our patio table. Overall it took more than 3 hours for dinner. One of the 4 couples... did not get their food for an hour after the rest of us. We got up twice to inquire. Manager apologized stating it was our waiter’s first night. Understandable but their meal should have been comped in my opinion. Would have been back due to close proximity but we were not willing to chance it. Only standout was the crab claw dinner but after the wait it was not worth it. We could hear the live music from our patio multiple nights through the week More

The place is fine. It was very quiet when we went. We share a conch fritter. A lot of batter. Still not sure what conch tastes like. The owner drove us back to our hotel, that was very appreciated after a few drinks.

This establishment is just across the street from a beach area. Stayed at a small boutique-like motel which was a 15 minute walk to this restaurant. There is a bar here and folks were singing karaoke when I arrived. The food was nice. Photos attached... with this review. The servers and staff were great. More

What a fantastic office to work in! The food was delicious. The cocktails adventurous and the staff made it all a great experience. AND to have the ocean as part of my office as I worked while at Travellers was a dream come true. Travellers... shares all they can to make whatever you desire to have it happen including a ride to the airport. Never had a restaurant serve so greatly. More

Having arrived on a cruise Dave the owner after telling us about the history of the place and some other snippets I won’t share here, told us not many from the cruises made it out here. My recommendation is DO IT. The roti is to... die for and the view stunning. It’s also a great moped journey out to the restaurant with stunning virws. We wish you luck Dave I’m sure it’s going to be a huge success and when I come back remember your promise 👍👍 More

Traveller’s (Rest) is BACK! It’s been years since Joan and Duke Hanna closed the restaurant and maybe you won’t be chill’in out with the likes of Sean Connery Sidney Poitier, and Mick Jagger BUT you can still enjoy the great drinks and food being offered... by Dave and his super staff. The seafront views are still some of the best on New Providence and like days of yore there is Connect 4 for fun at your table. The menu offerings are varied and all are made with love and the tastes prove it. So come Out West, come home to a True True Bahamian restaurant and bar! More

Dave, the owner, and his staff are friendly and professional. The chicken roti is the best in Nassau, and all the food is quality. Most of all, the prices are very reasonable.

Dave and the whole team were absolutely wonderful! We stayed just a few doors down and absolutely loved having Travellers so close. They even delivered beers to us in the ocean! We will definitely be back next time we are in Nassau.

I want to start with an admission....I am one of those individuals who utilize Trip Advisor to find places of interest when I travel but have never taken the time to write a review. My experience at Traveller's was the first time I felt the need to share with the rest of this community. This is an terrific restaurant. It is off the beaten path from Baha Mar and Atlantis resort properties. It is literally across the street from an absolutely gorgeous and secluded beach that is frequented by locals and a handful of tourists renting a house(like myself) in the area. We were in town for 9 days and were there at least 4 times. The restaurant has been around for decades and has a rich history of celebrities from around the world spending time there. The new owner Dave has embraced this history and is willing to share stories with you while you are there. He is extremely accommodating and actually went so far as to drive us home one night as it began raining while we were enjoying drinks. He wants everyone to enjoy themselves and feel welcome from the moment they arrive until the second they leave....and he succeeds wonderfully. If you are looking for a local spot to grab a great bite, have a few drinks, watch a gorgeous sunset and make some new friends this is the place to be. Enjoy!

It was a superb last night spent in this restaurant, looking at a beautiful sunset, drinking a good wine and enjoying a delicious meal with a really friendly staff. I recommend the conch roti! The owner brought us back to our hotel but offered on the way to make us discover another part of the island and try the conch salad in a local hut. I still can't believe how nice it was and I would like to make a special thanks to him!

I feel bad writing a bad review... But it's hard to be a good restaurant on the beach when you're out of all the seafood options on a weekend. We arrived for an early Sunday dinner, and the restaurant was out of literally all the seafood options except lobster... Out of seafood on the weekend? Really disappointing.

More

Nesbits- Top Local Food Spots in Nassau Bahamas

When you embark on your travel journey to the Bahamas, having a local show you the way will really make your trip amazing! Food is one of the greatest experiences you have when traveling, let us guide you to the best Bahamian food in Nassau! There are many great establishments in Nassau, however, you will notice a lot of them are very American and very touristy, we are a resort town after all! Amongst the riff-raff of all the touristy spots, you will find some really amazing, hole-in-the-wall, local joints, that will give you a taste of how the island life really is! From bars to fast food, to restaurants, I have listed below my favorite local Bahamian food spots, and why you should go there in the first place! There are tons of amazing restaurants and cuisines of all kinds in Nassau, for my favorite restaurants in general, check out my other Restaurant Guides!

The One & Only Travelers Rest: Best all-around Bahamian Restaurant in Nassau

This spot is new, and probably one of the best restaurants to visit in Nassau. They have live music on most nights, they are situated right on the water, the service is great and the food is amazing! The menu at Travelers Rest consists of breakfast, lunch & dinner, serving up a mix of Bar food + Bahamian food with a little twist of Jamaican/Trinidadian. I highly suggest ordering some Bahamian food to really enjoy your cultural experience! We really enjoyed their whole snapper as well as their jerk chicken. Overall, you are sure to leave satisfied with your experience!

Bahamian Bistro: Fun & Unique Concept

This is such a fun concept and the people over at Bahamian Bistro have really done an amazing job with creating a unique dining experience in Nassau. No matter what your tastebuds are itching for, Bahamian Bistro is sure to do the trick! They call themselves the “Food Archipelago” they have 8 different restaurants all in one kitchen. While all of them are good, given the subject of this post, we highly recommend the Bahamian Menu! Serving up breakfast, lunch & dinner, this spot is cute, fun and the food is delicious!

Nesbitt’s: A True Bahamian Dining Experience

This is one of those spots that if you ask any of the locals “where can I get some good local food” they will point you to Nesbitts. Although the décor and vibes might throw you off at first, the food will give your taste buds a run for their money! My favorite dish here is the Sautéed Shrimp Entrée, which is served with onions and peppers, peas and rice & 2 sides (I always choose mac n cheese & potato salad) **Mouth waters**. Locals love the breakfast here as well, but don’t go here for an omelet, make sure you get the Chicken Souse or Stew Fish with some Johnny Cake!

Dino’s: Conch Salad, a Local Favorite!

If you visit the Bahamas and miss out on conch salad, you’ve done it all wrong! There are tons of places around the island for a good conch salad, one of my favorites being Dino’s. I choose Dino’s because of the music, the view and it is one of the best conch salads on the island! What is a conch salad you might be asking… picture a ceviche, but with conch instead of fish, conch is a little chewier, and they pull it out of a shell! My favorite is the tropical salad, they throw some pineapple and apple into it, giving it a light sweetness to break up the heat from the pepper! This is a must-try when visiting the Bahamas!

Bamboo Shack: Every Bahamians Go-To Spot

Good old Bamboo Shack! There are a few locations on the island, this is your standard take-out spot, serving up delicious Bahamian food! This is a great opportunity to give a little lesson on Bahamian lingo, as you’ll need to know it when ordering your meal at Bamboo Shack!

“Cracked”- Means battered and fried

“Snack” – is your meal served with fries & a roll

*They’ll ask you if you want ketchup & hot sauce, I would always say YES on both!**

My go-to is the Breast Snack with ketchup & hot sauce or the Cracked Conch snack…no it’s not healthy but yes it is delicious, for sure one of the best Bahamian food spots in Nassau!

Original Patties: Snacks on the Go!

Original Patties has probably seen very few tourists in its life, and it’s a shame, as it is so fricken good and so affordable! Located off the highway, Original Patties is the creator and distributor of almost all the patties you see in local shops, gas stations, and restaurants. What’s a patty? Picture a large empanada, filled with chicken, veggies, or beef deliciousness. These are perfect to buy on the go and eat, or to buy in bulk and have as snacks over your stay. In addition to their patties, the jerk chicken and fresh sweet bread are a MUST try! My go-to order is a chicken patty, ½ pound of jerk chicken, and a coconut roll (all for $10). If that doesn’t hit the spot, I don’t know what will!

Original Patties- Top Local Food Spots in Nassau Bahamas

Plantation: Bar, Music & Food

Plantation is my go-to spot in the evenings when I have visitors in town. The vibes are always good, music is always bumpin’ and there is usually a good-sized crowd. Plantation is tucked away in a bunch of trees, surrounded by wild chickens running around, and very islandy décor. This is a perfect spot to grab a drink before or after dinner, or just to have dinner! The menu offers mainly bar food, and the cocktails are always STRONG! Plantation has a local vibe and you are sure to have a good time!

The Pink Shack

The Pink Shack is one of my favorite bars in the Bahamas, this little spot is so fun and the people that run it are absolutely lovely! The pink shack is located right off Bay Street, they are always serving you with a smile and have the best Sky Juice on the island! Sky juice is a Bahamian staple, consisting of coconut water, condensed milk, and gin, with a twist of cinnamon & nutmeg to spice it up, absolutely delicious! Stop by for a quick drink and some laughs with Bernie, the owner!

great drinks, great location, marginal food and service

If you want an "islandy" oceanview location with great drinks and fresh daiquiries this is great for that. It is a really relaxing place, but the decor is very tired, the food is marginal and the service is slow. I would eat first and come here for drinks and to relax.

Great View, Not So Great Food

This place has a fantastic View accross the Ocean but I have to say the food is not up to much, either is the service. I have been 3 times and all 3 times it has been the same. Going for some wings and a beer it is good but not for a meal..

We had a really enjoyable lunch there a number of years ago, followed by a jump in the water across the street.

I see they have their own website now, is it still a decent lunch place stop to get away from the downtown area?

Also, several years ago we had breakfast at one of the small downtown restaurants I can't recall the name, but they had the best corned beef hash I've ever tasted. Freshly made with real pieces of beef and seasoned wtih fresh herbs. Does this sound familiar to any locals?

Travelers rest is always a good choice, a bit out of the way but worth it if you have the time.

The breakfast place was likely cafe Skans.

I love bahamian corn beef... yum.. seasoned with lots of thyme.

I make a pretty good version myself..

It is the best stuff! Can you share your recipe?

Good to know Traveller's Rest is still a good stop. I can't remember passing it on my last visit - it is just past the turn to go to the airport? Do the jitneys go out that far? I know we took one to Compass Point a few years back.

The western transportation bus goes out that way, but it doesn't run very often. I wouldn't depend on it if you were trying to catch your ship.

I'll email the recipe.. kinda.

Our ship doesn't leave until about 11 PM and we have late seating. Do we catch it at the same corner in Nassau as the #10?

Thanks - I'll watch for it. Don't worry so much about measurements as ingredients.
