5 Best Ghost Tours In Vancouver For A Spooky Time

Looking for the best ghost tours in Vancouver? Well, you’re in the right place!

Vancouver is intriguing – but that intriguing side doesn’t stop at its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture. As the sun sets and the city lights dim, the tales of the past come alive in the form of ghost tours.

Spend a few hours fetching yourself to the dramatic past of the Rain City by signing up for one of these five best Vancouver ghost tours to embrace its darker, more mysterious side.

Embark on a spine-tingling journey learning murders and disappearances that gave police the foggiest ideas or the sordid tales of Maple Tree Square and chasing lost souls.

This article contains affiliate links where we may get a small commission if you click on the link and purchase. No extra cost is added to you.

1.   Vancouver Lost Souls of Gastown Walking Tour

paranormal tours vancouver

Undoubtedly the most talked-about ghost tour in all of Vancouver, the Lost Souls of Gastown transports you through the oldest neighbourhood of the city where tales of the wild west, murder, intrigue, and hauntings are buried behind the washed-out brick walls.

Within 90 minutes, the costumed guides who are reportedly unrivaled at their collection of untold stories and scary tales take you to the most haunted locations and review ghostly evidence taken at the sites.

Tick off the rowdy part of the Great Fire that burned down the whole of Vancouver in 45 minutes, hold the lamplight tight chasing the dark alleys of Gaoler’s Mews, and hear the eerie tales of smallpox at Maple Tree Square.

2.   Ghostly Gastown Tour

paranormal tours vancouver

It’s not that scary when the sunlight is still on. So wait until the sun beams down and venture out to the darkest cores of Vancouver downtown for a 90-minute trip with Ghostly Gastown Tour (GVT).

The guides at GVT like to keep it secret until the last minute, and we’re in the same boat. Instead of spilling the tea, all we can do to give you a sneak peek is the area you’ll be covering. Taking place in Vancouver’s most atmospheric neighborhoods, particularly Gastown and Downtown Vancouver, GVT keeps records of evidence that have been researched through archives and interviews. That being said – no fabrication here!

The best part? GVT guides love storytelling and everything paranormal. And did we tell you that one of these guides can also do your readings and connect you with the spirits? Well, rest assured as there’s nothing sort of life-threatening here.

The meeting point is outside of the Waterfront Station in front of the Angel of Mercy statue. This tour may not be suitable for children under 12.

3.   Morgue Ghost Tours

For those who are truly brave at heart, the Morgue Ghost Tours offer a unique and spine-chilling experience. No more taboos and spirits spotted by the residents, but evidence and haunting stories of lives left unfinished by the police themselves.

That, coupled with findings from recent paranormal investigations, was conducted right on the museum property. Open that door to the ‘ behind-the-scenes’ area and get spooked out by morticians’ creepiest weird.

The tour guides will lead you through the tales of murders and disappearances in Vancouver’s history. Each tour lasts about 40 minutes, and tickets are priced at $40, with a $5 discount for museum members.

Be sure to book in advance as these tours are incredibly popular and sell out quickly.

4. Ghostly Walking Tour in Victoria

paranormal tours vancouver

Speaking of the phantoms in Vancouver, Gastown seems to steal all the spotlight. But this time, we’ll take you to Victoria, just a bit outside of the downtown core, on a 60-minute Ghostly Walking Tour.

Who would have thought the colorful gardens and impressive British mansions here in Victoria shield the unknown tragic past? Starting out as a bustling trading post of Hudson’s Bay Co., Victoria took the hit by infamous names and pity events that still haunt famous heritage buildings.

Today, these tales of the supernatural will send chills down your spine. The tour is designed for adult audiences and contains some references to adult themes, so it’s best suited for families with older kids.

This tour operates rain or shine, so be sure to dress appropriately, though nighttime gets a little chilly.

🚌 Explore Vancouver Island with these stellar tours !

5.   Forbidden Vancouver Guided Tour

paranormal tours vancouver

A Vancouver that’s forbidden? What does that mean?

Well, with Forbidden Vancouver Guided Tour, you’re no longer chasing ghosts and haunted buildings but tales of bootlegging, mobsters, and corruption. Get back to the roaring 20s when major parts of Vancouver were still buried in a mess of illicit booze, crime, and vice. Walk past Vancouver’s prohibition era like Gastown, Maple Tree Square, and ornate heritage buildings hearing undisclosed secrets you never know from the ‘ official sources.’

We guess that’s the most interesting part of this two-hour tour.

As you explore the city’s famous Gastown district, you’ll visit landmarks that played a significant role in these sordid tales. The tour is designed for adult audiences and contains some mature subject matter, so it’s best for families with older kids. When the tour ends, you’ll have some time on your own seeking an apres-history dinner or drinks out of Vancouver’s most visited bars and restaurants.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, a believer in the supernatural, or just someone looking for a thrilling night out, these ghost tours in Vancouver not only get your adrenaline pumping but also reveal the unordinary sides of the city’s past.

Spooky tours take you through Vancouver’s darkest places

Historian and author Jeff Davis tells a story about spending the night in the haunted Post Hospital in Fort Vancouver during the Spirit Tales Walking Tour in 2016.

Downtown Vancouver gets downright creepy in October, as historical walking tours and a presentation at the Kiggins Theatre highlight this city’s darkest, weirdest corners.

For example, there’s the second-floor hallway above today’s McKenzie’s Treasures, a vintage shop on West Ninth Street. Previous ground-floor tenants reported bloodcurdling screams, running footsteps and motion lights triggered overhead in that empty hallway — or so Brad Richardson, executive director of the Clark County Historical Museum, has been told.

Richardson said he relishes the way we never get too sophisticated or skeptical to fear the unknown.

“We used to have werewolves or ghosts in the deep, dark forest, but that unknown portion of the world has shrunk,” he said. “The modern folklore we are collecting now, that’s today’s ghost in the forest.”

Where: Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver

Price: $15 advance or $18 at the door

Tickets: kigginstheatre.com/movies/history-on-tap

After a year when fear of a virus curtailed such outings, the Clark County Historical Museum is happy to get back to scaring folks with good old neighborhood ghosts. At 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays in October, museum guides will lead groups of no more than 25 walkers up and down Main Street, and into the neighborhoods beyond, while sharing lurid legends, terrible tales and historical horrors.

Much of their material will be drawn from “Darkness Next Door,” a compilation of spooky local stories researched and written by Vancouver historian Pat Jollota.

The route is about a mile, with frequent stops along the way, and takes about 90 minutes. Registration and tickets are required via cchmuseum.org/haunted-walking-tours . Tickets for non-members are $18 per person. Everybody over age 6 needs a ticket.

Tours proceed rain or shine, so bring a flashlight. Halloween costumes are encouraged — and so are face masks. All attendees are required to follow state and local COVID-19 guidelines in effect at the time. Call 360-993-5679 for more information.

What’s in the barracks?

Vancouver’s Army Barracks hosted thousands of soldiers and service members, spouses and children, prisoners and civilians who left a profound mark on the land and buildings across nearly two centuries of activity.

Stories swirl about the darker aspects of military life at the barracks. Local historian and author Jeff Davis, a Vancouver native who served at the site, shares them in his popular “Spirit Tales of the Vancouver Barracks” tours, through the end of Halloween season. General admission tickets for the Spirit Tales tours are $18.

Tours are 8 p.m. Saturdays and noon Sundays. Beginning Oct. 15, Friday night tours also start at 8 p.m.

Visit www.ghostsandcritters.com/ghost walks.html or contact Jeff Davis at [email protected] or 253-223-0125 for complete information.

Campfire tales

If you don’t feel like walking through horrible local history, take a seat at the Kiggins Theatre on Oct. 21 as the same historical experts — Jollota, Richardson and Davis — gather in person to swap scary local stories.

The final 2021 session of History on Tap at the Kiggins is called “Campfire Tales: Monster from the Couve Lagoon.” The evening will also include audience games like One History and a Lie, and Clark County Trivia.

Admission is $15 in advance or $18 at the door. Visit kigginstheatre.com/movies/history-on-tap . Proof of vaccination and masks are required. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the event begins at 7 p.m.

“We’re excited to be back,” Richardson said. “In celebration of our return to the Kiggins stage, we’re packing in even more stories of ghosts and intrigue as we explore what lies in the dark corners of the county’s past.”

TOUR DESCRIPTION

A gothic adventure.

Venture into Vancouver’s earliest and most gruesome history on the Lost Souls of Gastown Tour. You’ll discover a time when Vancouver was the Granville Townsite – the wild frontier town that suffered a devastating fire, smallpox outbreaks, and unsolved murders.

Designed for adult audiences, the Lost Souls of Gastown Tour is both a walking tour and a theatre piece. Created by Forbidden Vancouver’s Founder Will Woods – and based on documented Vancouver history – the plot weaves through back streets and alleyways to a dramatic finale in the heart of Gastown’s Maple Tree Square.

THE GRUESOME MURDER OF JOHN BRAY

The year was 1898. After a night of whiskey and cards at the saloon, gold prospector John Bray staggered out onto the streets of Gastown. He never made it back to his hotel. Robbed and shot three times in the head, he spent two delirious weeks roaming the streets before the bullets finally killed him.

Relive the tale of John Bray and his mysterious death, along with stories of the people and events that shaped early Vancouver. The Lost Souls of Gastown Tour is not a ghost tour. It’s an interactive gothic theatre experience that pulls you so deep into the swirling lamplight and darkened alleys of Gastown’s murky past, you may have a hard time finding your way back out…

What's spookier than a tour of a Vancouver morgue?

The Vancouver Police Museum and Archives plus Northern Paranormal Investigations (NPI) is getting ready to uncover Vancouver's haunting tales and paranormal findings in their one-night-only Morgue Ghost Tours.

Curious visitors can explore the old Vancouver morgue, including "behind the scenes" areas not normally open to the public, and hear true stories of murders and disappearances plus findings from NPI's recent paranormal investigation (conducted on the museum property too!).

The creepy tour will take place only on Oct. 29, just a few days before the spookiest night of the year.

There are only six tours available with 16 spots each. Each tour lasts 40 minutes and costs $40.

Haunted Vancouver: Most Haunted Places in Vancouver, BC

Ghostly Vancouver, BC

Chances are, you've already seen the spooky side of Vancouver as it often appears as a creepy city in sci-fi TV shows and films but in real life, the historic districts are home to some ghostly residents. From the "Lady in Red" who haunts the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver to multiple hauntings at Gastown's Old Spaghetti Factory, Vancouver has plenty of legendary ghosts. Use this guide to find out which local landmarks are haunted, plus Vancouver ghost guides, haunted Vancouver tours, and more.

There are also many Vancouver sites that aren't haunted but have played host to movie ghosts and monsters. See if you recognize any of these spooky sights!

Fairmont Hotel Vancouver - Downtown Vancouver

Any list of most haunted places in Vancouver has to include the historic Hotel Vancouver (now the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver), which first opened in 1939 and is allegedly home to the ghost of the "Lady in Red." The Lady in Red is always spotted on the 14th floor--she's been seen by both guests and staff--and sometimes stops elevators at the 14th floor (even when the button hasn't been pushed). She is thought of as a "good" ghost, so the hotel has embraced this apparition by naming a cocktail after her in their lounge. Whether you meet the Lady herself, or just enjoy a drink named after her, you're sure to enjoy some spirits in the hotel.

The Old Spaghetti Factory - Gastown

Gastown's old-fashioned style lamps and cobbled streets make it feel like you're stepping back in time to another era. But one of the most haunted places in Vancouver is actually a super-family-friendly restaurant: The Old Spaghetti Factory in historic Gastown . Inside the restaurant, there is an old, 1904 trolley train, and the most famous ghost in residence is said to be that of a uniformed tram conductor, who staff report seeing seated at a table after-hours.

According to Ghosts of Vancouver (more on that website below), there are three more ghosts at the Old Spaghetti Factory, including a young boy and a "little red man." Look out for extra guests at your dinner table if you're eating there with your family or friends.

Hycroft Manor - Shaughnessy

One of the most historic mansions in Vancouver, Hycroft Manor is, today, the home of the University Women's Club of Vancouver and site of several UWCV fundraisers, including the popular Christmas at Hycroft Christmas Market .

But it's also one of the most haunted places in Vancouver! From 1911 - 1942, Hycroft was the home of WW1 hero General Alexander Duncan McRae and his wife Blaunche McRae, who hosted elite parties there that included famous guests and royalty. While there have been up to seven different ghosts seen on Hycroft's grounds, the most famous are a man dressed in WW1 garb (presumed to be the General himself) and a well-dressed lady said to be Mrs. McRae. Other ghost-sightings include reports of a "Crying Man" whose sobs can be heard emanating from a downstairs room.

Waterfront Station - Downtown Vancouver

Today it's alive with the bustle of busy commuters as the terminal point for the Canada Line, SkyTrain, West Coast Express and Seabus, but  Waterfront Station is also one of the most haunted places in Vancouver. Built in 1915, the station has seen a lot of people (and ghosts) pass through the halls. Security guards and after-hours workers have long reported strange happenings at Waterfront Station, including ghost sightings, unexplained accounts of moving furniture, and phantom footsteps.

Clark County Historical Museum

Are you curious to hear tales of what haunts the buildings and streets of Downtown Vancouver? Interested in the strange and peculiar side of our local history? Then join us as we take an excursion through Clark County’s haunted history. Friday and Saturday evenings in September and October, guides from the Clark County Historical Museum (CCHM) will lead inquiring minds to the answers. Join them on walking tours along Main Street and beyond to uncover the unexplained in this historic city.

A mix of stories, memories, research, and personal experiences, these tours are a fascinating glimpse through the darker side of history. Many of our tales of history and terror are drawn from the book Darkness Next Door, penned by Clark County historian, Pat Jollota. Tours begin at 7:00 PM unless otherwise noted, and guides will lead up to 25 people for approximately a mile, while making frequent stops along the way. General admission tickets are $20.00 per person and CCHM Members are $15.00.

All are welcome on the tours, though they are best suited for those 10 years and older. All persons attending over the age of 6 will need a ticket. In addition, tours happen rain or shine, so CCHM encourages guests to bring a flashlight and dress for the weather. (Costumes appreciated)

For more information, please contact [email protected] or 360.993.5679 ext 102.

Looking for even more spooky stories? Join our friends at Spirit Tales of the Vancouver Barracks for a look at the darker side of Officers Row…

***Not a Clark County Historical Museum sponsored event.***

This walking tour takes place in Vancouver, Washington, at the historic Vancouver Barracks. Regularly scheduled tours run July through Halloween 2022, and by special appointment year round.    The Vancouver Barracks was founded in 1849, and members of the United States military served there until 2011.    In those years, thousands of service members, their families, civilians, and prisoners walked its grounds.    In over 150 years, they left their mark on the land and the buildings, leaving behind many memories.    Stories have grown up about the Vancouver Barracks, stories of loneliness, fear and tragedy, all part of the darker aspects of military life.    Whether you believe in ghosts or not, you will be interested in the stories of the Vancouver Barracks’ past inhabitants.

The Spirit Tales of the Vancouver Barracks tour was designed by local historian and author Jefferson Davis.    Jeff served at the Vancouver Barracks for many years, and has first-hand experience with both the spooky and ordinary history of the Vancouver Barracks.    Please join him and the other tour guides to learn more about the Vancouver Barracks’ shady past.

The tour lasts between 1 1/2 to two hours and is about 1 1/2 of a mile long.    The tour starts at the west end of the Grant House Restaurant parking lot.  It follows a loop to the western half of the Vancouver Barracks, then back to the Grant House Restaurant.  Along the route, visitors will stop at   locations   such as the Parade Ground, and outside of several buildings like the O. O. Howard House, Post Hospital, and Ulysses S. Grant House, to learn the haunted history of the Barracks.

From a Ghost Tour to a Parade — All the Details from Christina Hendricks' Glam New Orleans Wedding (Exclusive)

The 'Mad Men' star married George Bianchini on April 20 in a 'sexy, romantic' wedding with lots of festive, NOLA-style touches

Erin Clack is a Staff Editor for PEOPLE. She has been writing about fashion, parenting and pop culture for more than 15 years.

SOPHIE LIN BERARD | @SBERARDWEDDINGS

Christina Hendricks had a wedding to remember!

The Buccaneers star, 48, married camera operator George Bianchini on Saturday, April 20, in New Orleans in a weekend-long celebration filled with lots of festive, NOLA-style touches. The 75-person guest list included Mad Men creator Matt Weiner and actor Bryan Batt, fashion designer Christian Siriano and actresses Retta and Mae Whitman .

The event kicked off with a welcome party on Friday, April 19, hosted at a mini mansion on the Soniat House hotel property, which was recently redecorated by renowned interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres before stepping out into the historic streets of the French Quarter for a ghost tour.

SOPHIE LIN BERARD | @SBERARDWEDDINGS

"We thought that would be a really fun way for people to get to know each other a little bit, and since many of our guests had not been to New Orleans, it's a way to be like, 'Okay, you've arrived, let's show you around the French Quarter. Let's introduce you to the city that you're in and to each other,' " Hendricks tells PEOPLE. "So we just thought what an ice breaker and a fun way to walk around in the evening together."

The actress, who says she was determined to be "overdressed and fabulous" all weekend long, wore a custom Christian Siriano gown for the welcome party, accessorized with antique jewelry, for the occasion. "That's how I've always wanted to traipse the streets of New Orleans at night — in a serious gown with a drink in hand, just walking around," she explains.

The following day, Hendricks and Bianchini — who got engaged in February 2023 after proposing to each other — exchanged handwritten vows at a ceremony held at Napoleon House , a century-old restaurant that remains a New Orleans landmark. The actress' close friend Shirley Manson, lead singer of the '90s music group Garbage, officiated.

The bride wore a custom  Katya Katya  bridal gown which she says made her cry the first time she tried it on "because it was so beautiful." She paired it with a  Claire Pettibone  custom version of her Boho Juliet veil with pale grey silk ribbons and lace flowers.

The couple's reception featured a multi-course sit-down dinner in lieu of a buffet. "People really love to do a buffet in New Orleans for weddings. We're just not really buffet people. I want to sit there and be lazy and have someone bringing [the food]," she tells PEOPLE. "So we did a sit-down dinner. We coursed it out and offered good, Southern New Orleans food."

The menu included shrimp and grits, steak and muffaletta sandwiches — a New Orleans staple — rounded out with a dessert of Bananas Foster, flambéed tableside for each guest.

The weekend celebration concluded with a brunch on Sunday, April 21, featuring NOLA-inspired "snack-y" foods. "The kind of things that your mom would've made for you — the traditional dips and deviled eggs and farm Southern things with crawfish in them and all that," Hendricks says.

Hendricks says she and Bianchini — whom she first met on the set of her series Good Girls , which ran from 2018 to 2021 — wanted their wedding to be a big celebration of their love and a fun and memorable experience for their guests.

"We wanted [our friends and family] to feel sexy and welcomed and love and laugh, and have delicious food and indulge and enjoy incredible music. And we wanted to say, 'And hey, if you stick around, it'll continue to be like this. Come to our house. We'll do more of this,' " she explains.

"This is our best party, but we're going to have a lot more,' " she adds.

Billie Eilish announces world tour, hitting 3 Canadian cities

Singer to visit quebec city, toronto and vancouver on international tour.

Singer-songwriter superstar Billie Eilish is launching a massive concert tour — with both good and bad news for her Quebec fans.

The Grammy-winning musician will kick off her upcoming tour in Quebec City on Sept. 29 in support of her soon-to-released album  Hit Me Hard and Soft .

But despite moving on to Toronto with shows on both Oct. 1 and 2, Eilish does not have any concerts scheduled for Quebec's most populous city, Montreal.

After her upcoming dates in Toronto, the singer will move on to the United States, before returning to Vancouver on Dec. 3. From there, her tour will continue on to Australia and Europe for the summer of 2025.

Why big artists are performing in fewer Canadian cities

Eilish's last tour,  Happier Than Ever, saw planned dates in both Toronto and Montreal cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, though Eilish did return to Montreal in late 2023 for the Osheaga Music and Arts Festival.

The news arrived via Instagram, where Eilish shared album artwork showing the pop singer floating in a body of water after being ejected from a door. In the caption, she wrote that she will not drop singles in advance of the release.

"I wanna give it to you all at once," she captioned the image. "I truly could not be more proud of this album."

  • Concert ticket system is 'broken,' say artists. But some experts say targeting resellers isn't the fix
  • Regina-raised dancer joins army of Kens during performance at the Academy Awards

Eilish worked with her brother and longtime collaborator, Finneas, on Hit Me Hard and Soft . The pair recently took home their second Oscar for their big Barbie  ballad What Was I Made For?  In doing so, Eilish, 22, became the youngest person to have won two career Oscars.

Her new album will release on May 17, while tickets for the upcoming concert will go on sale May 3 on Ticketmaster.

The Rolling Stones show no signs of slowing down as they begin their latest tour with Texas show

HOUSTON (AP) — Time marches on and all good things must come to an end. But don’t tell that to The Rolling Stones .

What many believe to be the greatest rock ’n’ roll band in the world showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon as they kicked off their latest tour Sunday night at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

The Stones have been touring for more than 60 years. Frontman Mick Jagger and lead guitarist Keith Richards are both 80, with guitarist Ronnie Wood not far behind at 76. Their tour is being sponsored in part by AARP.

But during a vibrant two-hour show, the Stones played with the energy of band that was on tour for the first time.

“It’s great to be back in the Lone Star State,” Jagger told the packed stadium, filled with longtime fans, many wearing faded concert shirts from previous tours.

Jagger often strutted up and down the stage with seemingly boundless energy while Richards and Wood played many familiar guitar riffs beloved by fans. Jagger often led the audience in sing-alongs.

“The energy level is up and it’s always up with them. The age doesn’t show,” Dale Skjerseth, the Stones’ production director, said Friday before the concert.

The Stones have hit the road to support the release of their latest album, “Hackney Diamonds,” the band’s first record of original music since 2005.

Houston was the first stop on the band’s 16-city tour across the U.S. and Canada. Other cities on the tour include New Orleans, Philadelphia and Vancouver, British Columbia. The tour ends on July 17 in Santa Clara, California.

During Sunday's 18-song concert set list, the Stones played several tracks off the new record, including lead single “Angry.” They also played classics including “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Gimme Shelter,” Honky Tonk Women” and “Start Me Up.”

After playing “Beast of Burden,” Jagger said that concertgoers in Houston had voted to include it on the set list.

“You can’t go wrong with that,” one man in the audience could be heard screaming.

The Stones also played some unexpected choices, including “Rocks Off,” from their 1972 double album “Exile on Main St.” and “Out of Time,” a 1966 song that Jagger said during the concert had not ever been played by the band in the U.S.

With the 2021 death of drummer Charlie Watts , the Stones are now comprised of the core trio of Jagger, Richards and Wood. On Sunday, they were backed by various musicians including two keyboardists, a new drummer, backup singers and a brass section.

While the stage was surrounded by a large collection of video screens projecting images throughout the show, the main focus of the concert was the band and their songs

Before Sunday’s concert, Jagger spent time on Friday touring NASA’s Johnson Space Center in suburban Houston, posting photos on his Instagram account of him with astronauts inside Mission Control.

“I had an amazing trip to the space center,” Jagger said.

When asked if the band might be thinking about retiring, Skjerseth said he doubts that will happen.

“This is not the end. They’re very enthused,” he said.

This story has been updated to correct a song title to “Gimme Shelter,” not “Gimmer Shelter.”
