A little change from the beach is a must.

After the first few relaxing days on Isla Holbox, which we spent mostly on the beach, we were already so relaxed that we wanted to do something. Lounging around at the beach club all day, eating at our favorite restaurants in the evening, and then sipping a cocktail or two gets a little monotonous after a while. A Holbox excursion in between would certainly provide some variety.

So in the evening, after some delicious tacos at El Poblano Restaurant, we went for a walk around the main square. We quickly found what we were looking for at the Willy’s Tours booth on Calle Tiburón Ballena . There were still a few places available for the popular 3 Island Tour Holbox the next day. The boat trip takes 3 hours and goes via Isla Pájaros to Cenote Yalahau and finally to Isla Pasión .

We had done the tour to the three islands many years ago, but were curious to see what had changed on Holbox in the meantime. So we booked the tour, for which we paid only 500 MXN (30 USD / 39 CAD / 23 GBPEUR) each, due to the short term availability of seats. Normally, the 3 Island Tour Holbox costs 750-900 MXN (44-53 USD / 59-70 CAD / 35-42 GBP), depending on the tour operator and service.

How to Get to Holbox

The best way to get to Isla Holbox

Gathering for the Boat Trip

The meeting point for the tour was at 9:50 a.m. the next day at the booth we had booked. A few minutes later a taxi picked us up. The first route took us to the port of Holbox , where the ferries from Chiquilá dock. Other participants were picked up there and distributed to different motorboats. A short time later we left the port with 12 people on board.

First Stop: The Bird Island Isla Pájaros

After a 20-minute boat ride, we were already approaching our first destination of the three-part tour: Isla de los Pájaros , also known as Bird Island . The tiny isle has a diameter of only 500 meters (1,640 ft) and is located about 6 km (3,7 miles) east of the port in the Laguna Conil, which stretches between Isla Holbox and Chiquilá.

The island itself is not accessible as it is a nature reserve. However, there are two observation towers from which you can get a great view of the diverse bird life. Over 35 species of birds live and nest here, including gray and white pelicans, herons and white ibises. Shy pink flamingos, reddish egrets and roseate spoonbills are less frequent, while frigate birds and cormorants are more common.

The two observation towers with the footbridges between them are a popular photo motif for tourists. However, you should hurry as soon as you have a halfway clear view, as the stay is only 10 minutes and the next visitors are not long in coming.

Our captain Miguel explained to us that the birds here are used to human visitors, so they are not disturbed during nesting. We can’t really imagine that with such a crowd. We also remember that there were many more birds on our last visit a few years ago.

On to the Cenote of Yalahau, the Hoyo Negro

The stay on Isla Pájaros was over quickly and so we went to the highlight of the 3 Island Tour Holbox: the Cenote of Yalahau . After a half hour motorboat ride we docked at the jetty in Yalahau where several boats had arrived before us.

Yalahau is actually on the mainland west of Chiquilá, but can only be reached by sea. It is a jungle area surrounded by mangroves with a small cenote that was already known to the Mayas. The clear and cold fresh water of the “Hoyo Negro”, which translates to “Black Hole” as they called it back then, is fed from underground and is a welcome place to cool off.

Immediately after docking at the jetty, the path leads through dense mangrove forest to a wooden hut at the end. There is a small entrance fee of MXN 100 (6 USD / 8 CAD / 5 GBP), which is not included in the tour price.

The trail continues into the interior of the reserve, which is part of the vast Yucatán Biosphere Reserve called Yum Balam. After a few meters the wooden path on stilts branches off to the left to the cenote and to the right to a covered bar with snacks and souvenirs.

Now it’s time to put on life jackets if you want to swim in the cenote, which almost all visitors do. Directly opposite is a popular photo motif with the colorful lettering of Yalahau, as is common in many tourist places in Mexico.

After putting on the life vest we continue to the pool of the cenote, which is well surrounded by a wooden walkway. A rope is stretched in the middle so that less experienced swimmers can feel safe. At peak times there are quite a few swimmers in the pool, but it is still a good opportunity to cool off in the midday heat. The water in the cenote is crystal clear and actually very cold as it is constantly coming up from underground. There are even a few fish to be seen, which indicates good water quality.

A wooden observation tower is clearly visible from the footbridge surrounding the swimming area of the cenote. You have a wonderful view of the jungle surrounding Yalahau if you climb it.

After refreshing yourself in the cool water, it is worth taking a short walk around the property . Although the site has been heavily developed in recent years, it offers a beautiful glimpse into the natural jungle and mangrove world that would otherwise be inaccessible. In general, cenotes in Mexico are fascinating and magical places that were used by the Mayans for various religious rituals.

After a quick cool down and a tour of the park, we made our way back to the dock. Once there, we were in for a surprise .

Holbox Crocodiles on the Prowl in Yalahau

Our boat captain was already waiting for the group to show us something urgent. A full-grown crocodile was on the prowl just a few meters from the moored motorboats. It swam out of the mangroves towards the open sea, sometimes revealing its long, spiny tail, sometimes its sharp-toothed mouth, before disappearing for a while.

After a short time, the crocodile returned with a large fish in its mouth . The fearsome reptile kept biting its prey as it retreated back into the mangroves. As it did so, it stuck its mouth out of the water, allowing us to get some good “snapshots”.

Captain Miguel told us that two Holbox crocodiles had settled in Yalahau some time ago. At the border between the salt water of the sea and the fresh water constantly flowing in from the cenote, many fish seem to gather, providing the crocodiles with an ideal and constantly abundant source of food. This has persuaded them to stay – tourists or not. Tourists need not worry as long as they stay on the designated paths. Fish taste better to crocodiles.

Wading Around the Isla Pasión

After the crocodile disappeared back into the mangroves and the excitement died down, the boat trip continued to Isla de la Pasión , also known as Passion Island . This tiny sandy isle is located near Punta Cocos, southwest of Isla Holbox. If you take a walk along Holbox Beach, you can see it and its lookout tower at the end of the path. You can get even closer by taking a golf cart to Punta Ciricote.

When we arrived, the pier was full. So we went to the other end of the small island, which is only 100 meters (330 ft) in diameter. There we were let out of the boat in knee deep water and told to walk around the island along the beach to the jetty where Captain Miguel would pick us up.

So we did, because you can’t go inside the island anyway, because it’s overgrown with bushes and mangroves. Near the jetty there is a shaky looking lookout tower with two shady extensions. From the top you have a wonderful view of Isla Holbox .

There used to be a turtle hatchery on Isla Pasión. Unfortunately, there is nothing left of it except for a dilapidated hut that can be seen from the tower. After about 20 minutes of wading in the shallow water around the island and enjoying the beautiful view from the tower, Captain Miguel brought us back to the port of Holbox . The tour took a total of 3.5 hours and was a welcome change with a surprise factor.

Our Conclusion to the 3 Island Tour Holbox

The 3 Island Tour Holbox is the classic tour for vacationers on Isla Holbox and is popular with many tourists, so you can expect to meet a lot of like-minded people. It is comparatively cheap and in 3-4 hours you get a boat ride, some nice impressions of the fascinating nature of the Yucatán and the opportunity for a cool bath in the Cenote of Yalahau. This Holbox excursion is definitely worth the money and can be booked with any operator.

However, you should not expect too much background information and explanations, as the tour is usually conducted without a guide and only by the boat captain, who may say a few words in English at each stop, depending on his language skills. A private tour , which can be booked individually and away from the crowds, offers a much more intense experience with interesting background information.

DISCOVER A NATURAL OASIS SURROUNDED BY MANGROVES

Surrounded by mangroves, the beautiful Yalahau Lagoon is a natural paradise worthy of admiration, and it separates Holbox Island from the mainland. On the shore of the lagoon is the famous Ojo de Agua — a bath in its refreshing crystalline water has vitalized the travelers who pass through here since the times of the ancient Maya.

The Yalahau Lagoon is a rich natural habitat that gives shelter to a number of species. It is home to the spectacular pink flamingos that come here to feed during the months of April to October. In the water of the lagoon, you can also see schools of fish and even dolphins swimming around the island.

Also on the lagoon is Morena Island, also called Isla Pájaros, which is the home of more than 140 species of birds that make their nests in it. It is common to find white ibis, frigate birds, white egrets, double-crested cormorants, white pelicans, red egrets, pink spoonbills, herons, gray pelicans, and pink flamingos, among others, on the island.

• The island has a diameter of approximately 500 meters, and its floor is a mixture of sand and guano.
• Isla Pájaros is a protected natural area, and it is not allowed to walk on it. It is only accessible by boat.
• The birds that live there do not fear the proximity of humans, so it is possible to approach the island without disturbing its inhabitants.

Your last stop is Isla Pasión, a tiny little deserted beach full of bright pink seashells. Here, from the observation tower, you get a great view of the lagoon and Holbox. You may even see the remains of the turtle nursery once installed on Isla Pasión before returning to Holbox, with a full camera, ready to sit back and relax once again.

Visiter les 3 îles à Holbox en bateau – Une expérience en demi-teinte

Introduction 🇲🇽.

Holbox est une île du Mexique située sur la côte nord de la péninsule du Yucatan . L’île d’Holbox est une destination de rêve pour les voyageurs en quête de détente et de ses plages de sable blanc immaculé ⛱️. Cette petite île mexicaine de 42 km² est une belle découverte même si comme je l’indique dans le titre, c’est une île à demi-teinte . La plage principale de l’île, longue de plusieurs kilomètres, est réputée pour son sable blanc , ses eaux , le peu de profondeur sur plusieurs dizaines de mètres 😁. Il est possible de faire plusieurs activités comme la baignade avec les requins baleines , une espèce inoffensive et majestueuse  est également une expérience inoubliable à ne pas manquer pour les amateurs de faune marine 🥰 (ce n’est pas possible toute l’année) . Il existe aussi d’autres îles à côté d’Holbox comme Cozumel et Isla Mujeres

Holbox est également un véritable sanctuaire de biodiversité avec sa faune et de sa flore qui en font une destination de choix pour les amoureux de la nature 😉 . Il y a de nombreux oiseaux exotiques , des iguanes , des tortues de mer ou encore des flamants roses 🦩 . L’un des incontournables d’Holbox est l’excursion des trois îles . Cette visite permet de découvrir les îles environnantes.

L’EXCURSION DES 3 ÎLES EN BATEAU 🚤

Arrêt à isla pajaros.

Après quelques dizaines de minutes en bateau, nous arrivons à  Isla   Pajaros .  C’est un endroit populaire pour l’observation des oiseaux avec plus de 140 espèces d’oiseaux différentes 🐦 . Personnellement, le jour de notre visite, on n’a pas vu grand-chose 😑. Un observatoire a été construit pour permettre aux visiteurs d’observer les oiseaux de manière responsable et en toute sécurité.  Cette grande tour juste à côté de cette petite île, dénature énormément le lieu.  Vous n’allez pas voir grand-chose sachant que cette excursion est très touristique , on est très rapidement entassé et il y beaucoup de bateaux qui font des arrêts sur ce lieu 😒.  

SANS PLUS 🤐

ARRÊT À ISLA PASION

Retour dans le bateau pour s’arrêter cette fois-ci à Isla Pasion aussi appelé « l’île de la Passion » . Le nom de cette île vient du fait qu’il y a des dizaines d’années avant les couples se mariaient à Holbox 👰 . Ce lieu est devenu un lieu de fête avec des restaurants et des discothèques . Depuis l’ouragan Wilma en 2005, l’île a été dévastée , laissant très peu de traces de l’île telle qu’elle était avant 😔. C’est vrai que l’on ne s’imagine pas du tout cela avant. L’arrêt est rapide et ce n’est pas non plus incroyable à découvrir 😨. Les eaux sont peu profondes ce qui permet de profiter de la vue.

UNE ÎLE DÉSERTE 🏝️

ARRÊT AU CENOTE YALAHAU

Le  Cenote   Yalahau  est le dernier endroit avant de retourner sur l’île d’ Holbox . Il s’agit d’une petite lagune entourée de végétation, offrant une eau douce et rafraîchissante 😊.  Il y a même des crocodiles 🐊 aux alentours, on a réussi à en voir un quand on revenait sur le bateau.  Vous avez une tour de guet qui permet d’apprécier ce lieu avec une très belle vue 👀. Il y a de nombreuses espèces et comme à presque tous les endroits au Mexique, vous verrez des iguanes .  Le gilet de sauvetage est obligatoire pour se baigner dans ce  cenote .  C’est le meilleur endroit sur les deux autres îles même si par rapport à d’autres endroits ce n’est pas incroyable.

COMMENT ALLER À HOLBOX ⏳

Pour vous rendre à Holbox , vous pouvez y aller :

• En voiture 🚗 : La voiture n’est pas du tout recommandé sur l’île, il faudra obligatoirement laisser votre véhicule sur l’un des parkings à Chiquila. Le coût du parking est de 100 pesos pour la journée. Vous serez obligé de prendre le ferry pour rejoindre Holbox (440 pesos aller/retour par personne) . N’oubliez pas que le Mexique est grand et que si vous souhaitez être libre et indépendant dans vos trajets, la voiture est un très bon compromis. N’hésitez pas à aller voir mon article sur la location de voiture au Mexique.
• En bus 🚌 : Il n’y a pas de bus à Holbox…
• En Buggy  🛺 : Le taxi n’existe pas mais ce sont des buggys, cela peut coûter cher 💰

Si vous ne vous y prenez pas en avance, vous aurez quand même beaucoup d’agence sur l’île. Si vous êtes quelqu’un de prévoyant (comme moi) , il est tout à fait possible de réserver en avance sur Internet , vous retrouverez de nombreuses excursions sur GetYourGuide

LES CHOSES À SAVOIR 🥰

Comme à chaque fois dans nos articles, nous donnons quelques astuces et tips pour visiter Holbox :

• Une île très touristique
• L’état des routes est très souvent inondée ! C’est très compliqué de se balader dans les rues d’Holbox.
• Très peu de profondeur de la mer sur des dizaines de mètre.
• Possibilité de payer en Dollars (je vous le déconseille, car vous serez perdant sur le taux)
• La voiture n’est pas recommandé e pour visiter Holbox .
• L’île est très touristique donc tout coûte beaucoup plus cher.
• L’eau est de la mer est très chaude ♨️ .

Holbox   est une île très sympa pour passer du bon temps et profiter de la mer des caraïbes .  La ville n’est pas très belle et souvent, la route est inondée …  L’île d’ Holbox  est pour nous une petite  déception , car on s’attendait à quelque chose de mieux.

Au niveau de l’excursion , celle-ci était vraiment mauvaise , on a pas du tout apprécier et surtout par rapport à tout ce que l’on a vu à la suite de notre Roadtrip , on s’est dit qu’il y avait vraiment mieux !  Je ne vous conseille pas du tout cette excursion et aller faire plutôt  Punta   Mosquito   qui est une plage très belle.  Bien évidemment, c’est mon avis personnel et si vous souhaitez quand même tenter l’expérience, n’hésitez pas à me dire en commentaire ce que vous en avez pensé.

This tour is ideal for  exploring the surroundings of Holbox Island  on a  peaceful boat trip across the Yalahau lagoon.

During this tour you will visit  three points of interest near Holbox .

• The first is  Yalahau  (which gives its name to the whole lagoon, in ancient Maya means Eye of Water), a  mysterious source of pure and fresh water  fed by underground rivers and  cenotes . Here you can  take a refreshing dip and enjoy a spectacular view  of the tropical jungle from above the characteristic wooden mirador.
• The second stop is  Isla Pajaros  (Birds Island), always a place favored by  a huge variety of birds  that come here to reproduce and nest. Depending on the season you can see  pink flamingos, herons of all kinds, spoonbills, white pelicans, cormorants, frigates, gulls and many other species.  A paradise for bird-watching lovers .
• To end, the tour continues towards the tiny and romantic  Isla Pasion  (Passion Island), located near the western tip of Holbox, where you can  look for shells on the beach  or take a refreshing swim in the sea.

Very often and with a little luck we  observe groups of dolphins , a little less often it is possible to sight some sea turtle.

Isla Holbox may just be Mexico’s best kept secret. With pristine beaches, a laid back vibe and just enough fun things to do, the island of Holbox is hard not to love. Before you pack your swimsuit, we’re sharing some essential things to know about Isla Holbox as well as the very best things to do in order to help you plan the perfect island vacation.

With warm, crystal waters, postcard-worthy beaches, and a laid back vibe, Isla Holbox is the epitome of the perfect island getaway .

This small island is located off the northern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, just a 2-hour journey from Cancun .

While relatively close in distance, Holbox is a tranquil oasis that is a stark contrast to busy Cancun .

With sandy roads and golf carts instead of cars (for the most part!), Holbox oozes laidback charm and is the ultimate place to slow down and soak up island life. 

With that said, it’s certainly not perfect… (we’ll touch on that later!). But Isla Holbox still makes a pretty wonderful beach vacation. 

Whether you’re looking to post up on a hammock with a drink in hand and forget the day of the week, or you’re looking for a bit of adventure, Isla Holbox checks the box.

Before we explain why we love this island and start to list all the fun things to do in Holbox, let’s get one thing out of the way…

Phew, now you won’t be saying it wrong in your head for the rest of this article. Don’t you hate when that happens?!

1. Start your day with a perfect smoothie bowl

If you really want to get into the whole “island life” thing, there’s no better way to start your day than with a smoothie bowl for breakfast.

Painapol is a charming, open-air cafe that serves the best smoothie bowls in town . No doubt about it.

Actually, they were the best smoothie bowls we had in all of Mexico (and we tried a lot ). They were so good we came here for breakfast twice during our stay in Holbox. Repeating restaurants on trips is something we don’t often do, unless it’s really good.

Good to know: This place is very popular, so you’ll either need to get here early or be prepared for a wait . 

2. Walk rescue dogs on the beach

One of our favorite things we did in Holbox is walk rescue dogs at Refugio Holbox Animal Sanctuary.

This sanctuary rescues any animal that is in need on the island – from dogs, to cats, to birds, and even a (kind of famous!) raccoon!

They welcome visitors to volunteer in any way they can while on Holbox. One easy and rewarding way to help out is by taking a dog (or 2!) on a walk to get them their daily exercise. 

Stop by and be paired with a dog, and you will receive instructions as well as a leash and some bags for collecting poo.

The sanctuary is located just steps from the beach, so you can take your new furry friend for a stroll at the water’s edge .

If you really fall in love with them, many of the dogs are up for adoption. Or you can simply make a donation to help the shelter continue doing important work of rescuing Holbox’s animals in need of help.

3. Swim with whale sharks 

Isla Holbox has one of the largest congregations of whale sharks in the world .

These gentle giants are the largest fish in the ocean, reaching impressive lengths up to 39 feet long.

Isla Holbox is one of the top destinations in the world to see them!

They arrive in the Yucatan Peninsula from mid May/June to September . You’ll want to plan your tour during these months (particularly July) for your best chances of spotting them. 

There are a variety of tour operators that run whale shark tours in Isla Holbox. This can make choosing a responsible tour tricky, so ensure they’re authorized by SEMARNAT, Mexico’s environmental ministry, before committing.

Tips for swimming with whale sharks

• Do not touch the sharks . Nuff said.
• Keep at least 5 meters (16 feet) between you and the shark . This is pretty self-explanatory and is common practice in sustainable animal tourism.
• Bring nausea tablets. The boat journey is around 2-hours from the island and can be a bumpy ride.
• Only wear biodegradable, reef safe sunscreen . Or opt for a hat and long sleeves for better protection. In most commercial sunscreens there are chemicals that harm the reefs and wildlife.

4. Try Holbox’s famous Lobster Pizza

One of the most famous “Holbox dishes” is not Mexican at all… it’s pizza.

Lobster pizza, to be more exact.

Most restaurants that specialize in seafood on the island have some version of Holbox’s signature dish. But the best place to try it (according to our Internet sleuthing) is at Roots Pizza .

The tables at this outdoor restaurant are nestled between trees and reggae music plays in the background, creating a friendly, jungle atmosphere.

Roots has lots of different pizza options on the menu, but the most popular one on the menu is without a doubt the lobster pizza. At 600 pesos (about $32) for a 12-inch ‘za, it’s definitely on the pricey end, especially for Mexican standards. But there’s quite a bit of lobster. 

And it’s good. Really good, in fact. And came served with 3 house made sauces on the side.

Personal Note: For some reason, our pizza did not come with the lobster tail on top, like we kept seeing pictures of. I think I read that it can be seasonal. It was a bit of a bummer, but the pizza was very good, so after a few bites I forgot about the missing tail. 

In addition to pizza (and other food options), there’s an extensive list of mezcals and cocktails.

5. Eat vegan Mexican food in a hidden garden cafe

Find your zen at Arte Sano , a peaceful cafe that specializes in vegan Mexican fare.

Sit in their back garden, which feels like a hidden oasis, and sip on some fresh jugo while you wait for your meal.

We were really impressed with their inventive, colorful and healthy takes on classic Mexican foods , like enchiladas and chile relleno. They also have Western breakfast options (like pancakes and smoothie bowls), making this a great place to start your day or take an afternoon break or grab a casual, healthy dinner.

6. Get fresh juice & mingle with locals at the mercado

If perfectly Instagrammable smoothie bowls just aren’t your thing (that’s okay!), this will be more your speed…

Just about every town in Mexico has a local mercado (or marketplace), and Holbox is no exception.

If you’re sick of the touristy cafes and want a more local vibe, the island’s mercado is the real deal.

Grab tacos or freshly squeezed juice and practice your Spanish, as this is one of the places on the island where you’ll see way more locals than tourists . 

7. Explore Isla Holbox on wheels

Since there are no cars on Holbox (besides a few local delivery vehicles), the best way to get around the island is by renting a bike or a golf cart .

Having your own mode of transportation will make getting around much easier and quicker. 

While Holbox is very walkable, it does take a while to get from one end to the other. And when it’s hot and sunny, you will want to get from Point A to Point B as quickly as possible. Trust us!

Renting a bike on Isla Holbox

Bikes are the cheaper option, with rentals costing around 300 pesos per day. Most hotels can arrange rentals for you, or you can find rental shops in town.

Renting a golf cart on Isla Holbox

This may be the more comfortable option of the two, but it’ll cost you. 

We were quoted 2,000 pesos per day (just over $100). That price was enough for us to go with the bike option and not look any further. You can try comparing prices at different shops, or doing just a half-day rental. 

If you’re traveling as a family, this might be a great option. Plus, you will be shaded as you go from place to place, avoiding pesky sunburns.

Good to know: You can get a “taxi” ride on a golf cart. However, this service is not cheap, so we’d recommend walking, biking or splitting the fare with others if you are on a budget.

8. Test your detective skills in the island’s only Escape Room

If you happen to have less-than-perfect weather on Holbox, one of the best rainy day activities is the escape room located in Tribu Hostel . It also makes a fun activity after the sun sets, as the escape room is open until 10 p.m. and is perhaps one of the most unique things to do on Isla Holbox.

Recommended for 2-5 players, this pirate-themed escape room is packed with hidden clues which you and your team can use to try to find the treasure within your 60-minute time slot. 

Flex your skills, test your teamwork and have a lot of laughs as you try to escape!

9. Eat fresh seafood at this local spot…

Many of the restaurants on Isla Holbox are what we’d call “Instagram pretty” and popular with tourists.

There’s nothing wrong with this! But if you’re looking for something that feels a little more authentic, we’ve got a suggestion for at least one of your meals on Isla Holbox…

La Barracuda is just around the corner from some of the island’s most popular restaurants, but it’s situated on a quiet street and seems to get overlooked by most tourists . With red plastic chairs and strings of seashells hanging from the ceiling, this isn’t as polished as the more trendy eateries. But that’s kind of the point.

This charmingly rustic spot checks all our boxes…

In addition to being kind of off the radar of most visitors (check!), La Barracuda serves some of the best fresh seafood on the island (check!). The portions are generous (check!), and the prices are affordable (check!).

If this sounds like your kind of place, we’d recommend the ceviche and the pescado frito al ajilo (fried whole fish with garlic). Other reviewers rave about the coconut shrimp and their signature “Barracuda”, which is a seafood-stuffed fish.

Sit in their outdoor seating area with a cold Michelada as you wait for your meal. Salud!

10. Walk the sandbar to Punta Mosquitos

One of the most popular things to do in Holbox is to walk the sandbar to Punta Mosquitos. 

The reason it’s so popular is because this is where you’ll find the most powdery white sand and clear, shallow waters .

It’s likely the most beautiful spot on Isla Holbox .

Now listen up, because there are a few things you should know about walking to Punta Mosquito. Let’s start with how to get there…

How to get to the sandbar

• To get here, you’ll need to first get to Hotel Las Nubes, which is where the road ends. You’ll see all sorts of bikes and golf carts parked here.
• Follow the small path which will lead you to the water. 
• Walk out in the water a short distance until you reach the sandbar. 

Tips for walking to Punta Mosquitos

• Come early to avoid the midday sun (and crowds). This is also when the tide is at the lowest, making getting out to the sandbar easier.
• In total, the walk on the sandbar will take roughly an hour each way . It will take longer than you think. Trust me! 
• Look for wildlife. Keep your eyes on the sky for spotting birds, and look at the water to spot small stingrays. 
• Put on plenty of (reef safe!) sunscreen before you make this walk, as you will be completely exposed to the sun the entire way.
• Bring a dry bag to pack your electronics in . We brought a DSLR camera and our phones, and were happy we had a safe place to stash them.

11. Try to spot the famed Holbox flamingos (with a warning)

Wild pink flamingos call Holbox home and your best chance of spotting them is near Punta Mosquito between the months of April through October .

We visited Holbox in late April and unfortunately did not see these pink beauties (Ben even wore his flamingo shirt for good luck), but we’ll cross our fingers that you do! 

Here’s the important thing to know… After walking on the sandbar for quite some time, you will see a sign that says “Bird Conservation Area, Trespassing prohibited” . 

Some articles suggest walking beyond the sign for the best place to see the flamingos. And in the past, there weren’t as strict of restrictions on how far you could walk, so perhaps the information is a bit outdated. 

However, crossing into the conservation area is no longer allowed , so this is where you will need to turn around. 

Insider Tip: It might be worth bringing a pair of binoculars if you have them. We used our DSLR lens to zoom in and see the birds (no flamingos!). 

Good to know: Whenever there are conservation signs, they are there for a reason. Usually to protect the animals from tourists. (And sometimes the other way around.)

12. Catch the sunset at Punta Cocos

While the entire island boasts beautiful sunsets, the best place to see the fiery sun sink into the ocean at the horizon is at Punta Cocos, the westernmost beach on Holbox .

Getting here is a bit tricky, as the roads are not well-maintained. Expect lots of potholes and mud puddles (even if it has not recently rained).

We took our bikes halfway, but needed to walk the remainder because the mud puddles were too deep (sometimes above our knees!).

There aren’t many facilities at Punta Cocos yet (though there was some nearby construction going on when we visited), so bring a towel to sit on. 

Bring a drink to sip or snacks, or stop over at Holbox Magico , which is the only bar/restaurant in this area. FYI: According to reviews, the best part of this bar is the location (not the food).

Insider Tip: We’d recommend leaving right after the sun sets (while it’s still relatively light out), so you can get back to town before it becomes completely dark.

13. Sip a creative mojito in a rooftop pool 

ALMA Bar is known for their extensive mojito menu , including ones made with different types of liquor, like mezcal. 

Head straight to their rooftop bar where you can enjoy your mojito from the small plunge pool that offers sweeping ocean views. 

Psst! I’d recommend the La Tigra mojito , which is passionfruit and coconut cream. (Since I was pregnant at the time, I had a virgin version, which was still delish!)

14. Listen to live music on the beach

Many beach bars host live musicians in the late afternoon hours, as the sun starts to set. 

Lat your ears do the navigating, and snag a seat!

15. Splurge on a fancy dinner… maybe 

As you walk the sandy streets of Holbox, you might be surprised to see several trendy restaurants , dripping with plants, cool light fixtures, and bohemian touches. 

At first they look a little out of place, like they belong in Tulum instead of this small island oasis. But once you consider that there are a lot of very high end hotels on this island, it starts to make sense.

If you want a splurge-worthy dinner, go for it! Just be sure to stop by the restaurant ahead of time and make reservations . Even though it seems like you’re on island time, the upscale restaurants on Holbox do book up in advance.

Or maybe skip the fancy restaurants…

We went to one of these upscale restaurants to celebrate my birthday, and if I’m completely honest, we left pretty disappointed. We ordered lots of dishes to share, and with the exception of one item, the food was pretty underwhelming.

The cocktails and mocktails (I was pregnant!), were the best part. But the bill was more than what we’d pay for a similar meal in the United States, which was a bit of a shock.

It felt like the experience was more about the ambiance and aesthetics than the actual food. And we personally came to Holbox instead of Tulum for a reason.

We personally had much better experiences at just about all of the other (less expensive!) restaurants we went to on the island. We just wanted to share our personal experience in case it’s helpful planning your trip!

Moral of the story: The fancy-schmancy restaurants in Holbox aren’t for everyone. 

16. Hunt for street art

Holbox is full of vibrant murals , featuring people, animals and abstract art.

By some counts, there are more than 90 murals on this small island, giving you a good chance of stumbling on art around just about every corner.

One of the most iconic murals on Holbox is of a young girl, which is located just next to Painapol cafe .

17. Take a kitesurfing lesson

Ideal conditions for kitesurfing are served up on Isla Holbox 250 days out of the year, making it a prime location for testing your skills at this watersport.

The main season is from November to May and there are many kitesurfing schools around the island that offer lessons. 

Lessons range from a few hours to full courses depending on your interests and include all the equipment to hit the waves like a natural in no time .

As you learn the ropes, you’ll navigate the waters with dolphins, manta rays, endless species of fish, and migratory birds.

It’s a unique way to take in the natural beauty of this untouched paradise.

18. See bioluminescent waters sparkle under the stars

Holbox is known as a place to see the phenomenon known as bioluminescence. AKA blue sparkly, glowing water!

More precisely, this bioluminescence glow is created by plankton when they are disturbed or moved.

If you want to try to see bioluminescence on your own, you can head to this spot near Punta Cocos (beware that it can be muddy and ridden with mosquitoes).

You can also book a tour where your guide will take you to spots that are best for seeing bioluminescence as well as constellations in the sky.

• Night Kayaking Tour

Tips for seeing bioluminescence in Isla Holbox:

• If there is a full moon, the bioluminesce will be difficult to see. The best time to try to experience this phenomenon is during a new moon or when the sky is pretty dark.
• Bioluminescence can be very difficult to photograph (unless you’ve got a tripod and a DSLR camera).
• You need to disturb the water in order to see the plankton glow. Kick at the water with your feet, or find a palace where there are small waves. You can also swim and move your arms around in the water. Additionally, a kayaking tour can sometimes be a good way to see bioluminescence since your paddles will be constantly churning the water.
• If you are going to see bioluminescence on your own, be sure you bring a headlamp so you can get back to your hotel safely .
• Manage your expectations. You might only be able to see a little bit of sparkle. Don’t go expecting a sea of blue (like some photographs might have you believe!), and we think you’ll enjoy the experience!

19. Snap a picture with the Holbox sign

Stop for a quick picture at the colorful Holbox sign.

It’s located right here , as you enter Playa Holbox.

You’ll notice that it’s missing the letter “L”, which gives you the chance to get creative and strike your best “L” pose!

20. Go on the 3 Islands Tour

The most popular tour on Holbox is the classic “ 3 Islands Tour ” , which is operated by XTreme Holbox. 

This half-day trip takes guests on a boat ride to some nearby attractions: 

• Isla Pasion (Passion Island): known for pristine beaches
• Isla Pajaros (Bird Island): you can see many types of rare birds
• Yalahau Lagoon: this freshwater cenote (also called Ojo de Agua) makes for a refreshing dip

21. Get a massage on the beach (or at a spa)

Wander the beach and you will see plenty of massage tables, shaded beneath small awnings. Masseuses may even call out to you, “Massaje, massaje!”

I will warn you that while an oceanside massage sounds nice in theory (& is pretty affordable), there are a couple of things to think about…

a) There’s not much of a vetting process for setting up a massage table on the beach. So you won’t know the quality of your masseuse until, well, you’re on the table. There are some very talented masseuses along this stretch of beach, and some not-so-great ones. Ben lucked out and had a great massage, while mine was less than mediocre. (On my birthday, no less.)

b) Sand may get everywhere . Let’s just say that I had a rather exfoliating massage. And I don’t think that was on purpose.

c) You won’t have privacy . There are people walking by, so if privacy is important to you during a massage, we’d recommend walking past the beachside tables.

After having mixed experiences with our beachside massage, I wished we would have booked appointments at one of the few spas on the island. 

We heard really good things about Spa Orquídea , located at Las Nubes hotel. But when I tried to make an appointment at the last minute, I didn’t have luck. For that reason, I’d recommend making an appointment in advance if you want a massage in a proper spa.

22. Cheers with a sundowner

There are lots of waterfront bars at which you can enjoy a cocktail (or 2!) as the sky begins to turn pink and orange.

Grab a lounge chair facing the ocean and ask to see a cocktail menu.

23. Shop for artisan-made souvenirs

If you’re looking for souvenirs to remind you of your travels, there is a small grouping of vendors selling handicrafts just off one of the main walking streets. 

We couldn’t find the name of this market, but to the best of our memory, it is located around the corner from Painapol cafe, near this spot .

There are a few booths selling typical souvenirs, but a handful of vendors selling handmade artisan goods, like stuffed animals hand-stitched with colorful yarn, macrame wall hangings and cute felt hearts you can hang from a door handle (we have a few of these!).

At an open air market like this, you can barter to get a fair price. However, do so respectfully, as this is how the vendors make a living. 

Moral of the story: Don’t argue over 50 pesos if you don’t need to.

24. Cool off with black “Holbox” flavored gelato

There’s not much in the world we love more than ice cream.

Okay, scratch that…

There’s not much we love more than ice cream on a hot, hot day on an island in the sun.

There will be a time on Holbox where you’ll be craving something cold and sweet. And when that craving strikes, head to La Gelateria de Holbox for a double scoop!

For something unique, try their “Holbox flavor”, which looks a lot scarier than it is. The scoop is black, but the flavor is very light and refreshing: coconut and activated charcoal. Spoiler alert: you can’t taste the charcoal!

25. Kayak through the mangroves at sunrise

The Holbox Mangrove Reserve is one of the island’s richest wildlife locations .

Larger boats cannot access these areas due to ecological preservation, so many people miss the opportunity to see this unique ecosystem up close by kayak. 

A peaceful sunrise paddle through the maze of flora and fauna grants you the best odds of spotting the variety of exotic birds and other mangrove-dwelling creatures when they’re most active.

There is no prior experience needed for this tour since the waters are calm, so even if you’re a novice, you’ll get the hang of things quick!

Look no further than the bar at Tribu Hostel (which is open to the public). Expect to find groups of younger travelers, music and a lively atmosphere that kicks it up a notch later in the night with DJs and dancing.

Holbox Travel Guide

Now that we’ve gone over the very best things to do in Holbox, let’s go over all the other essential information like how to get there, where to stay and where to eat! 

We’re also sharing some really important things to know before visiting Holbox (that you won’t necessarily read about in the guidebooks). Hopefully, after reading this, you will know what to expect and feel prepared.

Absolutely!

It’s not too crowded but still has enough fun things to do, aka the best of both worlds! There are good restaurants, and most importantly, pristine beaches.

If you’re looking for a more relaxed (and less touristy!) trip, Holbox makes an excellent alternative to Cancun or Tulum.

Or if you want to explore all the beautiful places in the Yucatan Peninsula , Holbox makes a good addition to your itinerary and will feel worlds away from the more built up cities.

Our opinion: Along with Bacalar, Holbox is one of our favorite places in the Yucatan Peninsula. It’s not without its faults, but it’s still a really nice island getaway (in our opinion!).

Our personal experience in Holbox

We visited Holbox while we were living in Playa del Carmen . We spent 4 nights on this peaceful island for my birthday getaway!

I had recently found out I was pregnant (yay!), so I was battling nausea and sipping only virgin drinks the entire time. 

But it was still so, so much fun. 

Despite not feeling my best, I loved Holbox and highly recommend including it in your Yucatan itinerary .

10 Things to know about Holbox (that most people don’t talk about!)

We’ve already told you that we had a fabulous time in Holbox, and would definitely recommend adding it to your Yucatan trip. But we do want to make sure you know a few things about Holbox before you pack your bikini and (reef safe!) sunscreen…

There are a handful of things that we sure wished we would have known before our trip. (Things that you won’t find in guidebooks!)

After reading this, we’re confident that your expectations will be realistic and you will fall head over flip flops for Holbox!

1. Whale sharks can’t be seen all year

If your primary reason for visiting Holbox is seeing whale sharks, be sure you time your trip right to avoid disappointment. These gentle creatures can only be seen between mid-May and mid-September. Outside of those months, you simply won’t be able to see them.

Also, it’s worth noting that they are wild animals, so spotting them is never guaranteed.

2. Holbox boasts seaweed-free beaches…

Many tourists are surprised to find the beaches near Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum covered in a stinky reddish seaweed, known as sargassum. 

Since the currents of Gulf Stream carry the masses of seaweed north to Miami, just missing Holbox, this tiny island has become a good destination for those looking for sargassum-free beaches.

3. …but they’re not all pristine

That said, the beaches aren’t all postcard-perfect.

We noticed that in areas of the beach that weren’t directly in front of a hotel or beach bar, the sand was littered with debris and even a bit of trash.

You won’t see this in most photos people post on Instagram, so it was a bit of a surprise for us.

4. The iconic “Holbox hammocks” are gone

One of the most iconic photo ops of Holbox has long been the clusters of colorful hammocks that sit just above the surface of the ocean. See the photo above taken by our editor, Amanda, in 2018. 

You’ve likely seen the photos as you’re researching for your Holbox trip. We did too!

Many lists of the best things to do in Holbox still name this as one of the top sights, so we were surprised (and a little disappointed) that we didn’t see any hammocks in the water during our visit. 

After doing a bit of research, it seems they started removing these ocean hammocks in early 2020 as part of a conservation effort. 

Good to know: You can still find hammocks and swings on the island, but just not any that are directly in the ocean.

5. Bring cash

Many places on Holbox only accept cash, so be sure to bring plenty of pesos . 

There aren’t very many ATMs on the island, and the ones that do exist are notorious for running out of money.

Some of the bigger restaurants and hotels accept cards, so bring credit cards with zero international transaction fees as well.

6. You’ll see lots of mud puddles

Some roads, like the one that leads to Punta Cocos, get particularly pocketed with mud puddles.

If you plan to explore by bike or golf cart, just be prepared for the mud.

Here’s the kicker… these mud puddles aren’t necessarily from rainwater. 

Apparently, the sewage system on Holbox was not built to withstand the amount of people that currently visit this island. So yes, those puddles may very well be sewage water .

7. Mosquitoes are notoriously bad

Due to lots of vegetation and calm, warm waters, Holbox is notorious for having mosquitoes year round.  

We didn’t think they were too bad (at the end of April), but June is supposedly when they’re at the worst.

Pack bug repellant and be prepared to do a bit of swatting!

8. The golf cart taxis are pretty overpriced

Keep this in mind when considering getting a taxi. Alternatives are to walk (most places are pretty walkable on this island), or to rent your own golf cart or bicycle.

That said, it can be very convenient after dark.

9. WiFi isn’t great

Cell signal on Isla Holbox is pretty spotty. And most WiFi networks are weak as well. 

As long as you’re prepared for this, it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. You’re on island time, baby!

10. Higher-end restaurants require reservations

If you want to dine in style on Holbox, you can’t follow island time and just show up when you’d like. The fancier restaurants in Holbox require reservations. 

Show up earlier in the day, or even a day in advance to book your spot.

Responsible travel tips for traveling in Holbox

Holbox is a fragile island environment. Do your part to lessen your impact so that this place stays beautiful for years to come.

1. Wear reef safe sunscreen

If you plan on entering the ocean, you should be sure the sunscreen you’re wearing is reef safe . Regular sunscreen can cause damage to the ocean’s ecosystems and the marine life that call it home.

2. Bring reusables to cut down on plastic

We try to always be conscious of our plastic consumption, but especially when we are on islands. 

Holbox doesn’t have the best system for recycling, and it’s not uncommon for waste to end up in the water. If you pack a handful of items, you can easily eliminate the need for lots of single-use plastic.

Here are some of the reusable items we always pack:

• Note: many hotels will have large water jugs that you can use to refill so you don’t need to constantly be buying water bottles.

3. Support local businesses

Shop & eat at smaller, mom-and-pop shops when possible. There are lots of fun, trendy places on Holbox, but when it works, try to support the smaller places, too .

Best time to visit Isla Holbox Mexico

Overall, the best time to visit Isla Holbox is from the beginning of December to April . This season has the best weather since it’s the dry season. 

However, whale shark season begins just after the dry season (late May/June to September), so that’s something to consider if it’s a must-see during your visit.

The rainy season starts in May and ends in November. September, October, and November experience the highest levels of rainfall. 

Note : Rain generally brings mosquitoes (lots of em’). They’re most active around wetlands and during twilight, so pack your favorite natural insect repellent .

How to get to Isla Holbox 

The cheapest way to get to Holbox is by taking a bus, then a ferry . You can also take a private driver , or rent a car and drive yourself to the ferry port in nearby Chiquila. 

However you choose to get there, you will need to first head to the small seaside town of Chiquila where you can catch a short ferry to Isla Holbox.

Note: If you got a car rental in Mexico for a longer road trip (nice!), it is worth pointing out that you cannot take the car onto Holbox. It is a (mostly) car-free island, and not possible to bring your own. There are a handful of paid parking lots in Chiquila where you can leave your car for the time you’ll be on the island. These lots have security and start around $6 per day.

Where to stay in Holbox

Holbox isn’t that large, so no matter where you stay, you won’t be too far from the center. There’s a wide variety of types of accommodation – from social hostels to budget-friendly boutique hotels to full-on luxurious resorts. 

Here are some of our top Holbox hotel picks:

Ensueño Holbox : Comfortable and beautifully designed rooms, a nice pool, friendly staff, and affordable prices are what made us decide to book this hotel ourselves. We stayed here during my birthday trip to Holbox and had a wonderful time!

Tribu Hostel : Social, buzzy atmosphere with nightly events and budget accommodation, this is a popular backpacker spot. Even if you don’t stay, you can visit the bar for nightly happy hour.

Hotel Casa HX : Affordable and chic, complete with a pool, this adults only hotel makes a great choice for couples.

Hotel Villas Flamingos : This splurge-worthy waterfront hotel is one of the nicest places to stay on the island (if budget isn’t much of a concern).

Tip: If you’re interested in getting a good night’s sleep on Holbox, we’d recommend not staying too close to The Hot Corner . The street party tends to go all night (especially on weekends during high season) and the noise certainly carries to nearby hotel windows. 

Where to eat in Holbox

Isla Holbox has no shortage of restaurants, ranging from cheap and casual local spots to high-end dining with the price tags to match it.

To be honest, we had one “fancy” meal in Holbox and it left a bitter taste in our mouths, so we’re keeping this list focused on the mid-range cafes and local eateries.

• * Clandestino Coffee Roasters : the best coffee we had in Holbox
• * Arte Sano : cute vegan eatery with veggie-packed Mexican dishes and juices in a tranquil garden setting

• Tacoqueto : cheap, no-frills taco shop popular with locals 
• * Las Empa : cute little empanada stand for an on-the-go snack
• Las Panchas : popular spot for seafood; they serve until they run out

Visiter l’île Holbox : Que faire et où séjourner ?

Vous vous réveillez au son de la mer, vous sortez du lit, vous enfilez votre maillot de bain et vous vous rendez dans une petite ville particulière et colorée des Caraïbes mexicaines. Vous marchez quelques mètres et vous vous retrouvez sur une belle plage de sable blanc avec une mer couleur jade et des températures chaudes. À votre grande surprise, il n’y a personne autour de vous et vous n’entendez que le bruit des oiseaux.

Ça sonne bien, n’est-ce pas ? Eh bien, cette histoire n’est pas loin de la réalité que vous pouvez vivre si vous visitez une petite île appelée Holbox. Beaucoup la connaissent sous le nom de « paradis », et croyez-moi, elle a mérité ce surnom ; ici, vous pouvez profiter d’un endroit qui ressemble à quelque chose sorti d’un film.

Au cours de la dernière décennie, elle est devenue l’une des destinations préférées des étrangers et des locaux. Sa renommée a tellement transcendé que la plupart des visiteurs qui se rendent à la Riviera Maya décident d’inclure cette île dans leur itinéraire.

C’est précisément pour cette raison que j’ai voulu aujourd’hui vous écrire un méga guide de cette île, que faire à Holbox, comment s’y rendre, où dormir, que manger, combien d’argent il faut, etc. L’objectif est qu’à la fin de la lecture, vous disposiez d’absolument toutes les informations nécessaires pour planifier vos prochaines vacances sur cette île mexicaine paradisiaque.

Où se trouve Isla Holbox ?

Holbox est une île qui appartient à la réserve de biosphère et à la zone de protection de la vie sauvage de Yum Balam. Elle est située dans l’État de Quintana Roo, au Mexique, au large de la côte nord-est de la péninsule du Yucatan.

Elle compte environ 34 kilomètres de plage, et est reliée par plusieurs canaux qui donnent sur la mer et la lagune de Yalahau.

L’île se trouve à 145 kilomètres de Cancun, l’une des destinations les plus visitées de la région.

Pourquoi Holbox et pas ailleurs ?

La région dans laquelle se trouve Holbox appartient à l’une des zones les plus riches du Mexique en termes de beauté naturelle. Il y a littéralement des centaines de plages que vous pouvez visiter dans la Riviera Maya, et si vous vous déplacez dans des endroits comme le Yucatan, il y a aussi beaucoup de lieux d’intérêt.

Vous pourriez alors me demander, s’il existe d’autres endroits magnifiques à visiter, pourquoi choisir Holbox ? C’est une très bonne question, beaucoup de gens me demandent souvent quelle plage ou quelle île choisir pour leurs vacances, et je réponds toujours : ça dépend.

Le choix de votre destination idéale pour des vacances à la plage, et en particulier dans les Caraïbes mexicaines, dépend de nombreux facteurs. L’une des principales est de savoir quel type de voyage vous voulez ou quelles sont vos préférences.

Par exemple, si vous voyagez avec vos amis et que vous voulez faire la fête, je vous recommande d’aller à Playa del Carmen.

Si vous voyagez en famille, Cancun peut être une bonne option grâce à ses hôtels et ses parcs de loisirs proposant de nombreuses activités pour tous.

Mais si vous voyagez en couple ou même seul, et que vous voulez une destination pour vous détendre, vous reposer et qui ne soit pas trop « fêtarde », je vous recommande sans hésiter Holbox.

Choisissez d’aller à Holbox si vous voulez connaître une île tranquille et paradisiaque, pleine d’une magie et d’une vie particulières grâce à ses habitants, ses rues, sa mer magnifique et son sens de la liberté. Choisissez d’aller à Holbox si vous ne voulez pas rencontrer des milliers de touristes sur la plage, si vous voulez avoir la possibilité de profiter d’une plage pratiquement vide, relaxante et magnifique.

Holbox est appelée « l’île des hippies », précisément parce que c’est un endroit idéal pour se détendre, se laisser aller et se laisser aller. C’est pourquoi vous allez à Holbox, pour vous laisser surprendre, pour vous déconnecter des problèmes, de la technologie, de la vie stressante.

Alors maintenant vous savez, si vous cherchez une plage pour vous reposer et profiter, un endroit pour respirer la paix et la tranquillité, choisissez Holbox. C’est un charme naturel qui, je vous l’assure, ne vous décevra pas.

Quand visiter Holbox ? Météo et climat

L’île reçoit des touristes pratiquement toute l’année. Toutefois, gardez à l’esprit les points suivants pour savoir quand il est préférable de visiter l’île :

• De novembre à février. Ces mois ont tendance à être un peu plus frais, il y a un risque de jours nuageux pendant votre visite, surtout la nuit. Apportez quelque chose pour vous couvrir et des chaussures fermées.
• De mars à avril. Bons mois pour visiter l’île, temps chaud et faible probabilité de pluie.
• Mai à juin. Pendant ces mois, le temps est délicieux : il fait chaud, l’eau est chaude et vous trouverez des prix abordables.
• De juillet à octobre. À partir de juillet, la saison des pluies et des ouragans commence. Gardez cela à l’esprit, car l’île peut parfois fermer complètement si les pluies sont trop fortes. Vérifiez donc la météo à l’avance si vous décidez de partir pendant ces mois.

Conclusion, meilleure période pour visiter l’île : mai à mi-juin.

Comment se rendre à Holbox ?

S’agissant d’une île, l’accès n’est évidemment possible que par la mer.

Que vous veniez de Cancun, de Playa del Carmen ou d’un autre endroit proche, la première étape pour se rendre à Holbox est de se rendre dans un petit village appelé Chiquilá.

Comment se rendre à Chiquilá ?

1. premier bus ado.

Le moyen le plus simple est le bus. Les bus ADO partent de la gare routière du même nom, située dans le centre de Cancun.

Remarque : si vous arrivez à l’aéroport de Cancún et que vous souhaitez vous rendre directement sur l’île, la meilleure solution consiste à acheter un billet auprès de la compagnie ADO, qui vous conduira au centre-ville pour 75 pesos mexicains. Le service est disponible de 8h à 12h, au départ des terminaux 2 et 3, et le service peut être acheté directement aux guichets ADO de ces terminaux.

Veuillez noter qu’il n’y a que quelques départs quotidiens de la gare routière de Cancun vers Chiquilá. Vous devez en tenir compte afin de planifier vos heures de départ et d’arrivée sur l’île.

Maintenant, je vais vous expliquer absolument tout en détail :

Des bus relient Cancún à Chiquilá.

Horaire : Ils partent à :

8 h 31, 9 h (celui-ci est relié à d’autres endroits, il est donc plus tardif), 11 h 20 et à 13 h.

Durée du trajet : 2 heures 20 minutes environ.

Coût : 280 pesos mexicains (environ 14 dollars américains).

2. Deuxième bus ADO

Si vous ne prenez pas l’un de ces horaires, il vous reste une option : un bus qui s’arrête dans plusieurs villes. Il est de la même marque ADO, et part également de la gare routière.

Horaires : Ils partent à différentes heures, je vous recommande de regarder sur le site web ou de demander directement au guichet.

Durée du trajet : 3 heures 20 minutes, car il s’arrête dans de nombreuses villes intermédiaires avant d’arriver. Beaucoup de gens montent et descendent, et beaucoup s’arrêtent même dans le bus.

Coût : 175 pesos mexicains. Veuillez noter que le coût peut varier en fonction de la saison.

Important : si vous le pouvez, achetez vos billets à l’avance car si le dernier bus est complet, vous devrez attendre le lendemain pour vous rendre à Chiquilá. Je vous recommande vivement de vous lever tôt et de prendre le premier bus, cela vous fera gagner beaucoup de temps.

3. La navette ou le van

Il existe une autre option pour se rendre à Chiquilá depuis Cancun : la navette ou le van.

Si vous voulez arriver rapidement ou si vous voyagez à plusieurs, c’est une excellente option pour aller de Cancun au port de Chiquilá.

En arrivant à Chiquilá, que dois-je faire ?

Lorsque vous arrivez à Chiquilá, sortez votre valise du bus et dirigez-vous vers la jetée (c’est à environ 3 minutes de marche).

Une fois ici, vous avez deux options pour vous rendre sur l’île :

1. En ferry

Il n’y a que deux compagnies qui font le voyage jusqu’à l’île : 3 hermanos et Holbox Exprés. Le premier est bleu et le second est rouge, et le service est le même pour les deux. Tous deux facturent 220 pesos mexicains pour un aller simple (soit 440 $ pour un aller-retour).

Les billets s’achètent directement au guichet, il suffit de suivre les panneaux Ferry. Il faut en moyenne 30 minutes pour se rendre à Holbox. Les départs ont lieu toutes les demi-heures.

2. En bateau

La deuxième option pour s’y rendre est de prendre un bateau auprès des pêcheurs locaux. Ils vous factureront exactement le même prix que le ferry, bien que vous puissiez parfois négocier une réduction.

L’avantage est qu’ils peuvent partir à n’importe quelle heure, donc si vous ne voulez pas attendre le départ du prochain ferry, vous pouvez vous rendre sur l’île de cette façon.

Comme ils ont les mêmes prix, si vous me demandez lequel choisir, les deux sont à peu près les mêmes. Il faut savoir que le trajet en bateau est un peu plus « cahoteux », c’est-à-dire que le bateau bat la mer et que le trajet peut être un peu cahoteux.

Autres options pour se rendre à Holbox

Il est très courant que dans la région de la Riviera Maya, les gens fassent un circuit autour de ses diverses attractions dans une voiture de location. C’est une excellente occasion de faire le tour de plusieurs sites intéressants et de s’arrêter à chacun d’eux, avec toute la liberté du monde.

Ainsi, une autre très bonne option pour aller à Holbox est de louer une voiture.

Ici, vous pouvez louer une voiture à partir de 600 pesos mexicains par jour.

Tenez compte du fait que vous devrez laisser la voiture garée et stockée dans une pension de famille à Chiquilá et payer par jour. Beaucoup de gens le font, vous trouverez donc plusieurs garages où vous pourrez laisser votre voiture pendant votre retour de l’île. Le coût approximatif pour laisser votre voiture à Chiquilá est de 50 pesos mexicains pour 12 heures et de 100 pesos pour la journée entière.

Lorsque vous arrivez à Chiquilá, laissez votre voiture et dirigez-vous vers l’embarcadère pour vous rendre sur l’île. A votre retour, reprenez votre voiture et c’est fini. Cela peut être une excellente option si, après avoir visité Holbox, vous poursuivez votre route vers une autre destination de la Riviera Maya, par exemple.

Remarque : si vous n’avez pas beaucoup de temps, vous pouvez vous rendre pour la journée à Holbox depuis Cancun ou la Riviera Maya dans le cadre d’une excursion.

Conseil supplémentaire

Une chose que vous pourriez trouver fastidieuse est de devoir attendre le départ du bus pour votre destination (car il n’y a que quelques horaires de bus).

Un conseil pour votre retour de l’île vers votre prochaine destination (par exemple, Cancun ou Playa del Carmen) :

Des taxis collectifs partent de l’embarcadère de Chiquilá et vous conduiront à votre destination. Par exemple, un trajet vers Cancun vous coûtera 250 pesos mexicains par personne et vous serez déposé à la gare routière.

Je pense que c’est une excellente option de prendre un de ces taxis, car vous gagnerez beaucoup de temps, le trajet vers Cancun prend 1 heure et demie par exemple. Bien qu’il soit un peu plus cher, le voyage est plus confortable et plus rapide. La seule chose que vous aurez à faire est d’attendre que le taxi fasse le plein et c’est tout.

Comment se déplacer à Holbox ?

Dès que vous poserez le pied sur l’île, vous remarquerez quelque chose de très particulier : il n’y a pas de voitures ici et les rues ne sont pas pavées. Il y a essentiellement trois façons de se déplacer sur l’île :

Il y a de très courtes distances qui peuvent facilement être parcourues à pied. Par exemple, de la place principale à la plage, il y a environ 5 minutes de marche. N’oubliez pas de faire une promenade sur le sable, une expérience très agréable.

On trouve beaucoup de VTT à Holbox, car la plupart de la population et des touristes les utilisent comme moyen de transport quotidien. Une bonne option que je recommande vivement est d’en louer un pour faire le tour de l’île.

De cette façon, vous aurez plus de liberté pour aller dans des zones plus éloignées, et je vous assure que les vues que vous aurez et l’expérience de la conduite autour de Holbox sont incroyables. La location d’un vélo à l’heure vous coûtera 35 pesos mexicains.

Faites attention uniquement lorsque vous roulez sur le sable, car il y a des zones où il est plus difficile de pédaler. Gardez un œil sur votre vélo si vous décidez d’aller nager par exemple.

Les voiturettes de golf

Vous les verrez partout sur l’île, car ils sont le moyen de transport officiel et le plus célèbre de Holbox. Les voiturettes de golf servent principalement de taxis sur l’île, c’est-à-dire que si vous voulez être emmené à un certain endroit, vous ne pouvez être emmené que par l’un de ces véhicules particuliers.

Remarque : avant votre arrivée sur l’île, vérifiez auprès de votre hôtel s’il est possible qu’il vienne vous chercher à l’embarcadère. Je vous le dis parce que les taxis (voiturettes de golf) facturent généralement très cher s’ils vous emmènent dans la zone de l’hôtel sur la plage, environ 60 pesos mexicains pour un trajet de 5 minutes.

Je vous conseille de rechercher à l’avance où se trouve exactement votre hôtel, car il y en a beaucoup qui sont à une très courte distance de la jetée où vous arrivez, et vous pouvez facilement marcher pour éviter de prendre un taxi.

Une option très viable, si vous voulez voir d’autres parties de l’île et la visiter à votre propre rythme, est de louer votre propre voiture de golf pour vous et vos compagnons. Ainsi, vous pouvez vous rendre d’un bout à l’autre de l’île de manière simple et même amusante.

Les prix de location d’un buggy de golf sur l’île dépendent du nombre d’heures de location que vous souhaitez. Une heure de location coûte environ 200 pesos mexicains, et de nombreux endroits offrent des promotions si vous louez pour plus de deux heures.

C’est une excellente option si vous voyagez avec vos amis ou votre famille. Ils pourront ainsi apporter des provisions (nourriture ou bière par exemple), leurs effets personnels et de la nourriture pour faire le tour de l’île.

Recommandations générales pour la location d’une voiture de golf à Holbox :

• Conduisez prudemment et lentement. Ces véhicules ne sont pas destinés à la course et atteignent généralement une vitesse moyenne de 30 km/heure.
• Pendant la saison des pluies, vous ne serez pas autorisé à louer une voiture de golf, car les fairways ont tendance à stagner et les voitures peuvent s’enliser dans la boue.
• Ne laissez pas votre voiture hors de vue, presque aucun d’entre eux n’a de clé et il vaut mieux être sûr.
• Je recommande de louer une voiture pour au moins deux heures afin de profiter au maximum de votre temps et de vous rendre dans d’autres endroits de l’île.

Que faire à Holbox ?

Bien qu’il s’agisse d’une île relativement petite, vous trouverez à Holbox plusieurs activités à faire et des lieux à visiter pendant votre séjour. En voici quelques-unes :

Marche sur la plage

La principale activité à Holbox est tout simplement de se promener sur la plage. Je vous recommande de porter des sandales car vous trouverez plusieurs petits coquillages qui peuvent vous blesser.

L’un des attraits de l’île est sa mer, grâce à deux caractéristiques : elle est chaude et peu profonde. L’expérience de nager dans une mer où l’eau vous arrive à la taille, où vous pouvez marcher et patauger, et où la température est idéale, est incroyable.

Kayak et/ou paddle boarding

Dans de nombreux hôtels et même dans les restaurants de bord de mer, vous pouvez louer un kayak ou un paddle board à l’heure. Cela vaut la peine de profiter de la mer de cette manière.

Regardez les couchers de soleil

Une chose qui caractérise Holbox, ce sont ses couchers de soleil époustouflants. Lorsque le soleil se couche, allez à la plage et asseyez-vous sur le sable pour profiter du spectacle magique. Je vous assure que vous serez étonné.

Découvrez les peintures murales

À Holbox, vous trouverez de nombreuses représentations artistiques, dont l’une des principales et des plus frappantes sont les peintures murales. En vous promenant dans les rues du village, vous trouverez des œuvres d’art peintes sur les murs des maisons.

Holbox combine parfaitement son côté plus local et classique avec son côté moderne et avant-gardiste. Dans la rue principale, vous trouverez plusieurs boutiques d’artisanat et des galeries d’art proposant de beaux objets de designers mexicains.

Faites une promenade à vélo

Comme je l’ai mentionné plus haut, je vous recommande vivement de louer un vélo et de faire le tour de l’île. C’est un excellent moyen de découvrir le côté authentique de l’île.

Prenez une bière face à la mer

La plupart des hôtels ont un bar en bord de mer, et certains ont même une piscine. Même si vous ne séjournez pas dans l’un de ces hôtels, je vous recommande de vous rendre à leur bar et de prendre un verre en admirant la beauté de la mer.

Visitez Punta Mosquitos

Cet endroit est situé à l’extrémité de l’île, et vaut bien une visite. Pour y accéder, je vous recommande de prendre un taxi ou un vélo, vous devrez traverser toute la zone où se trouvent les principaux hôtels sur la plage, qui est très belle.

Il y a un chemin que vous devez emprunter pour arriver au point final de cette zone de l’île, considérez que vous ne pouvez pas y aller en voiture de golf ou en vélo, vous devrez marcher. Les autorités procèdent ainsi parce que c’est là que les tortues pondent habituellement leurs œufs et qu’elles ne veulent pas que quelque chose vienne perturber ce processus incroyable (si vous avez la chance de le voir, veuillez ne pas les toucher).

Allez à Punta Cocos

C’est l’autre extrémité de l’île, littéralement de l’autre côté de Punta Mosquitos. C’était l’un de mes endroits préférés sur l’île, car ici vous trouverez une plage paradisiaque (quand j’y suis allée, je n’ai rencontré que deux personnes), l’eau est chaude et la paix que vous pouvez respirer est incroyable. Pour s’y rendre, je recommande de louer une voiture de golf, car la distance depuis le centre est assez longue.

Faites le tour des 3 îles

Autour de Holbox, il y a d’autres petites îles, îlots et mangroves qui valent la peine d’être visités. Pour vous y rendre, vous devrez louer une excursion d’une journée pour vous y rendre et en revenir. Le circuit comprend généralement la visite des lieux suivants :

• L’île de la passion. Cette île, située à 15 minutes de Holbox, est idéale pour se détendre et profiter de la paix et du calme loin de la civilisation.
• L’île aux oiseaux. Comme son nom l’indique, vous pouvez y observer une grande variété d’oiseaux dans leur habitat naturel, tels que des flamants roses, des pélicans et d’autres belles espèces d’animaux. L’île est située à 30 minutes de Holbox en bateau, et vous pouvez en faire le tour en faisant une courte promenade.
• Cénote Yalahau. Un cenote est un réservoir d’eau douce et cristalline. Il s’agit d’une visite presque incontournable pour beaucoup, grâce à sa beauté particulière et au fait que vous pouvez voir des flamants roses très tôt le matin, faire de la plongée libre et observer de nombreux poissons colorés.

Nager avec les requins-baleines

Il s’agit peut-être de l’une des activités les plus célèbres et les plus recherchées sur l’île : avoir la possibilité de nager avec le plus grand poisson du monde, le requin-baleine . Cette activité n’est disponible que de mai à septembre, et l’excursion comprend le transport en bateau, la baignade avec un équipement de sécurité spécial et le déjeuner.

Manger une pizza au homard

La spécialité de l’île, je vous recommande de l’essayer.

Reposez-vous

Je dirais que Holbox est un lieu de repos, alors allez-y. Profitez du calme et de la tranquillité de l’île pour vous déconnecter de la technologie, de la routine et des problèmes, et vous détendre tout simplement.

L’observation des étoiles

Je vous recommande, le soir, de vous asseoir sur la plage et de vous tourner vers le ciel, vous pourrez voir un magnifique ciel plein d’étoiles.

S’émerveiller devant la bioluminescence

Il existe un spectacle incroyable dont vous pouvez être témoin à Holbox : la bioluminescence de la mer. La bioluminescence est un phénomène qui consiste en la production de lumière générée par certains organismes de la mer, comme le plancton. Pour que ce phénomène incroyable soit possible, il ne doit y avoir aucune source de lumière extérieure, c’est-à-dire qu’il doit y avoir une obscurité totale.

Si vous voulez la voir à Holbox, trouvez les jours où il n’y a pas de pleine lune (ou si c’est le cas, elle n’est pas dans le ciel), et allez à la plage, peut-être tôt le matin pour être sûr qu’il n’y a pas de lumière. Si vous descendez la rue principale jusqu’à la plage, vous trouverez une jetée. Pour voir la bioluminescence, vous devrez déplacer l’eau, afin que les substances soient activées et génèrent une lumière particulière. Je vous recommande de sauter dans la mer, de nager et d’agiter vos jambes et vos bras ; vous verrez qu’ils semblent avoir une torche.

Combien de jours faut-il rester à Holbox ?

L’une des questions les plus importantes est celle du nombre de jours à passer sur l’île. Comme je l’ai déjà dit, cela dépend beaucoup de vos préférences, mais si vous me demandez un chiffre, je pense que 3 jours sont parfaits.

Avec 3 jours sur l’île, vous pourrez profiter de la plupart des activités dont je viens de vous parler, visiter plusieurs de ses attractions, vous détendre sur la plage et vous reposer. Évidemment, si vous souhaitez rester plus de jours, vous pourrez profiter davantage de ce paradis et de toutes ses merveilles.

Combien coûtent les vacances à Holbox ?

Je ne vais pas vous mentir, Holbox est une destination « chère ». Je mets cher entre guillemets, car il y a toujours moyen d’économiser de l’argent quand on voyage, même si l’on se rend dans un endroit où les prix sont plus élevés qu’ailleurs.

Holbox a des prix élevés pour presque tout. Cela est dû essentiellement à la combinaison de deux facteurs :

1. C’est une île. Oui, je sais que je vous l’ai déjà dit, mais si je le répète, c’est pour faire le lien avec les coûts. Amener sur une île toutes les fournitures dont un endroit a besoin (comme la nourriture, les meubles, l’eau, etc.) coûte cher, il faut les transporter tous les jours pour que les personnes qui y vivent ou y passent des vacances aient tout ce dont elles ont besoin pour survivre et avoir du confort.

2. elle est devenue la destination « à la mode ». Il y a dix ans, presque personne ne connaissait ou n’avait jamais entendu parler de Holbox, mais aujourd’hui, c’est devenu une destination si populaire que des centaines de touristes du monde entier arrivent chaque jour pour la visiter. C’est pourquoi, sur l’île, vous trouverez des prix élevés pour presque tous les services.

Je vais maintenant expliquer en détail la question des coûts et le montant dont nous parlons en moyenne par secteur :

Combien coûtent les excursions à Holbox ?

Dans toute l’île, vous trouverez plusieurs sociétés de tourisme qui peuvent vous emmener dans les excursions que j’ai mentionnées ci-dessus.

Comme je l’ai mentionné plus haut, l’un des principaux circuits est la baignade des requins-baleines. Cette visite est chère, environ 1 500 pesos mexicains, mais si vous pouvez la faire, elle en vaut la peine.

D’autres, comme l’excursion d’observation des oiseaux et de baignade sur trois îles, coûtent en moyenne 350 pesos mexicains par personne. Je vous recommande, si vous décidez de réserver une excursion, de demander ce qui est inclus afin de ne pas avoir de surprises (la plupart comprennent une collation, l’équipement de navigation et l’excursion).

Si votre budget est faible, ne vous inquiétez pas, détendez-vous et profitez de la magie que représente Holbox à elle seule. Je vous assure que vous l’apprécierez aussi.

Combien coûte un séjour à Holbox ?

Il existe de nombreuses possibilités d’hébergement sur l’île. Le plus courant et le plus typique est de chercher un hôtel en bord de mer pour profiter de tous ses avantages.

Si vous vous rendez à Holbox avec cette idée en tête, gardez à l’esprit que pratiquement tous les hôtels situés en bord de mer sont à prix élevé. Autrement dit, passer une nuit dans l’un de ces hôtels peut vous coûter en moyenne 2 000 pesos par nuit.

Si vous ne voulez pas dépenser autant, il existe de nombreuses options pour tous, même à partir de 150 pesos mexicains par nuit.

Combien cela coûte-t-il de manger à Holbox ?

Dans la rue principale de l’île, vous trouverez de nombreux restaurants où vous pourrez prendre le petit-déjeuner, le déjeuner et le dîner. Les prix ici ne sont généralement pas inférieurs à 100 pesos mexicains par personne dans n’importe quel restaurant.

Sur la plage, vous trouverez également de nombreux restaurants de fruits de mer principalement, ainsi que des pizzas bien sûr (la pizza est la norme à Holbox, vous en trouverez partout). Les prix ont tendance à être élevés aussi, environ 150-300 pesos mexicains par personne.

Si vous êtes un routard et que votre budget pour visiter l’île n’est pas très élevé, ne vous inquiétez pas. Comme je l’ai dit plus haut, il y a toujours moyen d’économiser de l’argent. Voici deux des principales choses que vous utiliserez et dépenserez le plus : dormir et manger, pour tous les budgets.

Que vous voyagiez avec un budget limité en tant que routard ou que vous fassiez une pause avec votre partenaire ou votre famille, je vous présente ci-dessous quelques options.

Où se loger à Holbox ?

À Holbox, vous trouverez plusieurs options pour l’hébergement, il y en a littéralement de toutes sortes et pour tous les budgets. Que vous voyagiez dans le but de séjourner dans un hôtel en bord de mer ou que vous voyagiez avec un budget limité, il y a des options pour tout le monde.

Ci-dessous, je vais vous dire exactement quelles sont ces options pour dormir à Holbox :

Budget élevé

Comme nous l’avons mentionné plus haut, vous trouverez sur l’île de nombreux hôtels de charme, situés en bord de mer. Ces hôtels constituent une excellente option si vous êtes prêt à payer un prix « élevé », mais en échange vous recevrez une belle chambre face à la mer, avec tout le confort nécessaire pour vous reposer et oublier le monde.

Réserver une chambre dans ces hôtels est idéal pour les couples par exemple.

Voici deux excellentes options.

1. Resort Spirit Holbox

Cet hôtel de caractère est situé en face de la mer, dispose d’une piscine extérieure et intérieure, et de belles chambres avec terrasse et vue sur la mer. C’est l’idéal si vous voulez un endroit spacieux, confortable et propre, avec tous les équipements pour vous détendre en face de la plage.

Prix : Les chambres de luxe commencent à 2 200 pesos mexicains par nuit (environ 125 USD).

2. Hôtel Holbox Casa Punta Coco

Vous vous souvenez que j’ai mentionné ci-dessus que l’un de mes endroits préférés à Holbox était Punta Cocos ? C’est là que se trouve ce magnifique hôtel-boutique, idéal pour les couples qui souhaitent un endroit paradisiaque pour se reposer et faire la fête, grâce à la paix qui règne de ce côté de l’île.

Si vous voulez un endroit chaleureux pour vous détendre, avec un excellent service et une vue incroyable sur la mer, c’est l’endroit qu’il vous faut.

Prix : Une chambre de luxe commence à 3 700 pesos mexicains par nuit (environ 210 USD).

Budget moyen

Il existe de nombreux hôtels à budget moyen dans le centre de l’île, qui constituent un excellent choix si vous ne voulez pas dépenser beaucoup, mais que vous voulez tout de même être très proche de la plage et avoir un endroit confortable pour vous reposer.

Je vais vous parler de deux options ci-dessous.

1. Casa Azul

Ce petit hôtel mignon est situé à deux pâtés de maisons du centre de Holbox, assez loin pour dormir tranquillement, mais assez près pour se rendre à pied à la plage en 5 minutes. Il propose des chambres simples mais confortables et propres, dont certaines disposent d’une terrasse et d’une cuisine pour que vous puissiez y préparer certains de vos repas.

Prix : Une chambre double commence à $960 pesos mexicains par nuit (environ $55 USD).

2. Casa Loa

Ce bel hôtel est situé dans le centre de l’île, à quelques pâtés de maisons de la plage. Il propose des chambres spacieuses, propres, confortables et fraîches.

Si vous cherchez un nouvel hôtel, confortable, très propre et avec un bon service pour vous reposer, c’est une excellente option.

Budget du routard

Si vous souhaitez vous rendre à Holbox avec un petit budget ou un budget « routard », et que vous cherchez un hébergement du même type pour ne pas trop dépenser, ne vous inquiétez pas, il existe plusieurs options pour le faire.

En voici quelques-unes.

1. hôtels et cabanes Ida & Vuelta

Cet hébergement est situé à deux minutes de la plage, et vous y trouverez de tout : de simples hamacs pour dormir à la belle étoile, des chambres partagées de style auberge et même des bungalows complets à un prix très économique.

Si vous voyagez seul ou avec des amis, et que vous voulez un endroit bon marché mais confortable et propre pour séjourner à Holbox, c’est votre option.

Prix : un hamac coûte 200 pesos mexicains par nuit (environ 11 USD) et un lit dans une chambre partagée coûte 350 pesos mexicains (environ 20 USD). Vous aurez également la possibilité de louer une tente pour 150 pesos mexicains par nuit.

Où et quoi manger à Holbox ?

Petit-déjeuner.

Pour le petit déjeuner, dans la rue principale, vous trouverez de très bonnes options avec des petits déjeuners de toutes sortes. Un forfait petit-déjeuner coûte généralement 120 pesos mexicains, avec ragoût et jus de fruits. Je peux vous recommander le restaurant « Colibri », qui se trouve dans la rue principale de l’île menant à la plage.

Si vous voulez un petit-déjeuner bon marché, vous avez deux options :

Allez au marché de l’avenue principale, à côté de la place, et achetez-y quelque chose. Vous pouvez acheter par exemple un bon jus de fruits, des fruits ou un gâteau. Achetez des fournitures dans un magasin. Par exemple, vous pouvez acheter des produits pour faire un sandwich, ou même pour cuisiner si votre logement dispose de telles installations. De cette façon, vous pouvez économiser beaucoup d’argent (vous pouvez également le faire pour le déjeuner ou le dîner).

Déjeuner ou dîner

S’il y a une chose pour laquelle Holbox est connue, c’est la pizza, et la plus célèbre est la pizza au homard. Si vous visitez l’île pendant la saison de la pêche au homard, je vous recommande vivement de l’essayer pour le déjeuner ou le dîner.

La saison de fermeture s’étend du 15 février au 15 mars. Pendant ce mois, vous ne pourrez donc pas déguster de homards et autres poissons sur l’île.

Il est assez cher, puisqu’il coûte 500 pesos mexicains, mais si vous le pouvez, essayez-le. Cela en vaut la peine.

Mon endroit préféré pour manger une pizza s’appelle « El Hornito Argento ». Vous pouvez le trouver sur l’avenue principale, presque en face de la place centrale, et il propose des pizzas très savoureuses de toutes sortes (pas seulement au homard).

Je recommande également le restaurant « Viva Zapata ».

Vous trouverez également de nombreuses autres options alimentaires de toutes sortes et à tous les prix sur toute l’île. Dans les rues, vous trouverez par exemple des empanadas, des hot dogs et des hamburgers.

Les bars et boîtes de buit

Si vous voulez prendre un verre, je vous recommande d’aller au « Bar El Chiringuito », qui est situé juste en face de la plage principale. N’oubliez pas de prendre un cocktail ou une bière sur les balançoires, et d’observer le coucher du soleil d’ici est le meilleur endroit pour le faire.

Et si vous avez envie de danser sur de la musique live ou de profiter d’un endroit la nuit, je peux vous recommander le bar « Hot Corner », situé sur l’avenue principale, à un coin de rue de la plage.
