The Packers tour group will visit schools, hospitals, businesses, retirement homes, event venues, and community centers along the route to present donations, give away items, and visit with fans. They’re working with various locations and nonprofits to coordinate these visits and fundraises, in order to have an impact on as many communities as possible.

In Kenosha, the Tailgate Tour will stop at the Shalom Center for their fundraising event at The Club at Strawberry Creek. The event tickets are $100 each on the Shalom Center website and the event will feature food, drinks, music, raffles, and a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the Shalom Center’s food, shelter, and community resource programs.

In Platteville, the Tailgate Tour will be at the Broske Center’s Platteville Dairy Days from 5 to 8 p.m. General admission tickets are $25 and are available on the event’s website . These include participation in the Dairy-Oke, music, and a Q&A with the Packers. VIP tickets are $75 each and are limited to 50 people. These can be bought at the Platteville Regional Chamber and include time to meet the Packers during the Mac & Cheese Cook-Off Judging.

In Sun Prairie, the Packers will be at the Sunshine Place’s fundraising event being held at The Pavillion at Angell Park from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $100 and are limited to 250 people. Green Bay Packers kick off Tailgate Tour

green bay packers tailgate tour

By Rich Palzewic

Contributing Writer

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers’ 17thTailgate Tour officially kicked off April 11 at Lambeau Field.

Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy, current players Aaron Jones, Elgton Jenkins and Romeo Doubs and alumni Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Eddie Lacy and Davon House boarded a Packers-themed bus outside of Lambeau and will travel to several areas throughout western and northern Wisconsin to visit Packers fans.

Stops during the April 11-15 tour will include visits to retirement communities, businesses, schools, event venues and community centers.

The alumni will surprise fans at various locations as time permits.

Stops include Ashland, Eau Claire, Green Bay, Ironwood, Minong, Rhinelander, Rice Lake, Shawano, Spooner, Superior, Wausau, Woodruff and Wittenberg.

“The Tailgate Tour highlights the uniqueness of the Packers – particularly with our connection to the fans,” Murphy said. “It’s a great way to show our fans support. One of my favorite parts of the trip is seeing how the players change from the beginning to the end. They might start a bit reserved, but they’re interacting a lot by the end.”

This is Jones’ first Tailgate Tour.

green bay packers tailgate tour

“I love going out in the community, so this is right up my alley,” he said. “It’s all about spreading our joy throughout Wisconsin where people might not get to see us as often. My mom even showed up to the sendoff party, but she’s not going on the bus.”

A first-time Tailgate Tour participant, Jenkins had kind words to say about the trip.

“I’m super excited,” he said. “We’ll get to see lots of people – kids, people who work for the government, etc. We’re excited to put smiles on everyone’s faces.”

Former player Evan Smith (formerly Dietrich-Smith) played for the Packers in the early 2010s.

“I was telling Mr. Murphy I always wanted to do this during my playing days, but I never got the opportunity to do so,” he said. “To me, it’s an honor to do it.”

Smith currently lives in Wisconsin.

“I love Wisconsin and have been up north,” he said. “I’m excited to see it again and interact with fans – this is right up my alley.”

Because of his upbringing, Smith said he feels very “Wisconsin.”

“If you look at my bio, I grew up in a farm town, I went to school in a small town – small towns are my thing,” he said. “I’ve always loved it here… it has everything I grew up with – a lake, camping, hunting. I’m doing it real Wisconsin now.”

Smith said during his playing career – which also saw stints with the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers – he soon realized Lambeau was a special place.

“I’ve been to all 32 stadiums, and this is No. 1 – it’s not even close,” he said. “This is the standard in the NFL for the game-day experience, and I don’t think anyone else can hold a candle to it. The Packers probably do the best job of giving fans everything they want. If teams want to do better, this is where they should come to figure it out.”

Clinton Dixplayed for the Packers from 2014-18 and recently retired as a Packer after several stints elsewhere.

“To be a part of this organization is a blessing,” he said. “They gave me a chance to change my family’s history, so now I’m giving back to the place that gave me my start. My favorite memories are winning ball games. The Tour will be a great time to see fans and catch up with some of the guys.”

Lacy, a bruising running back who played for the Packers from 2013-16, is now living in Arizona.

“It’s a pleasure to come back and see familiar faces,” he said. “We also get to go to cities I’ve never been to and see fans in person. I’m a little nervous about it – I usually say ‘no’ to things like this, but when I got the phone call, I wanted to do this one.”

Inevitably, Murphy was also asked about the Aaron Rodgers’ situation.

Rodgers has publicly said he plans to play for the New York Jets, but a deal has yet to be completed to move the four-time NFL MVP.

“It’s been an interesting offseason,” Murphy chuckled. “I anticipate quite a few questions from fans on the situation, and I anticipate saying, ‘There’s no update.’ It’s similar to what happened 15 years ago (with Favre), which ironically, was my first Tailgate Tour.”

Visitor Guide

Tailgate the green bay way.

You are planning a trip to Green Bay for a home Packers game for the first time, what could be more exciting than that?! Of course, you’ll visit Titletown , the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and perhaps partake in an alumni led stadium tour at Lambeau Field or hop on the Packers Heritage Trail Trolley Tour . The last thing you will need to know about to complete your weekend adventure in Green Bay is where you can find the best pre-game party.

Every NFL city has their own take on tailgating and each team has different fans with their own pre-game rituals, but we like to think Packers Nation has the best fans and they sure know how to cheer on the Pack in style.

If kickoff is at Noon, 3:25 p.m. or even on a Monday night, have no fear, there’s a party happening at least four hours prior to game time and it's impossible to miss. But with so many options, how do you choose? Who has the best live music, the best beer selection, or how about an all you can eat and drink buffet?!

It is important to note once you enter the area surrounding the stadium, you will find people everywhere and the locals that live near the stadium may offer you the chance to park on their lawn for a fee of $10-40 dollars for an easy in and out. Once you find your spot, maybe for free on the street if you arrive early enough, or in one of the lots surrounding the stadium if you don’t feel like walking too far, it’s time to decide where to go to get in the gameday spirit. After you cross Lombardi Avenue, you will be sure to find the action. Some of the roads will be closed for ease of walking from tailgate to tailgate, all within a short walk to Lambeau Field.

So, where should you go? Here are the top tailgating spots you can find every gameday in Green Bay.

Titletown Gameday Live

Explore Titletown! Every gameday you can find Titletown Gameday Live hopping in the Titletown District.

Enjoy live music, food and beverages, fun activities and more. Titletown is the perfect place to celebrate each home game. Play some games like foosball or bean bag toss, perfect your spiral or touchdown celebrations on Titletown’s football field, try your hand at breaking the 40 yd dash record, or run up and down Ariens Hill. Once the snow hits, the tubing hill and ice rink will be open for business. Titletown Gameday Live is open to the public and starts four hours before kickoff. Entertainment lineup for remaining 2021 home games:

Sun., Oct 24 | 8 am - Noon | The Third Wheels Sun., Nov 14 | 11:25 am - 3:25 pm | Scratch & Bang Sun., Nov 28 | 11:25 am - 3:25 pm | Eric Lives Here Sun., Dec 12 | 3:20-7:20 pm | DJ Mando Sun., Dec 25 | 11:30 am - 3:30 pm | TBD Sun., Jan 2 | 3:20-7:20 pm | TBD The Titletown parking lot off of Lombardi Avenue is also open for paid parking, with refunds offered to those with vehicles that leave the lot earlier than four hours before the game starts. Additionally, guests parking at the Titletown parking lot will not be permitted to tailgate in the lot.

Find it at the intersection of Lombardi Ave. & Ridge Rd.

Kroll’s West

green bay packers tailgate tour

Next to Lodge Kohler at Titletown, you can find Kroll's West. This family-owned, family-friendly restaurant has been a part of Green Bay history and tradition for the past 80 years. With a coveted spot directly across the street from Lambeau Field’s Fleet Farm gate, Kroll’s West has become a destination landmark for the ever-popular Wisconsin Butter-Burger. And like the others, craziness will ensue during your pre-game warm up. Enjoy live music, a food truck stocked with Kroll’s West favorites and drinks galore.

Find it on Ridge Rd. directly across from the stadium.

Johnsonville Tailgate Village

On the other side of the stadium, you can kick off gameday at Lambeau Field’s Johnsonville Tailgate Village , located in the east parking lot, outside the Oneida Nation Gate. The Johnsonville Tailgate Village gives fans a tailgating experience like never before. Located in the shadows of Lambeau Field, this 13,242 square-foot temple has: a full kitchen, spacious bar, floor to ceiling windows, and overhead doors that open to a 4,300 square-foot party deck. In addition to these outstanding amenities, the Village hosts live bands and that one-of-a-kind Packers’ atmosphere.

No ticket? No problem! The Tailgate Village is free of charge and open to the public. Listen to live music, enjoy great food and cold beverages and watch the game on any of the 35 plasma screens located throughout the Village.

New in 2019, the local VFW POST 2037 has been hosting the Veteran’s Tailgate Zone in Lot 1. Vets who are cheering on the Pack or even the opposing team, make a point to stop by and say hi and bond with fellow vets.

After using the past two drafts to power a rapid rebuild, Brian Gutekunst was cooking again last weekend. In typical Gutey fashion, he targeted guys with elite athletic profiles, filled needs, sneaked in a trade-down, landed a standout University of Georgia defender, and said, Screw all your mock drafts  when he passed on rumored top target Cooper DeJean . There’s a strong possibility that Gutekunst selected three starters in the first three picks. Jordan Morgan ’s versatility ensures he finds a spot on the offensive line. Edgerrin Cooper could team up with Quay Walker to patrol the middle, and Javon Bullard may line up next to Xavier McKinney in the secondary.

The NFC North has had a pretty strong weekend. The Chicago Bears landed Rome Odunze alongside Caleb Williams and completed an offense that looks more potent than anything we have seen from them in years. Chicago has a reputation for being champions of the offseason and failing to push it much further than that. But Williams, the slam-dunk No. 1 pick for over a year now, is far less polarizing to scouts as a player than Justin Fields and Mitchell Trubisky . The Minnesota Vikings landed Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy to replace Kirk Cousins without moving heaven and earth. Still, it remains to be seen just how much upside he has and how long it will take him to settle into the system.

If this Packers draft class turns out as strong as it appears, this was the latest masterclass in a remarkable rebuild that began when Gutekunst shocked the world by selecting Jordan Love in 2020. It basically included only two months of adversity before Green Bay returned to contention with the league’s youngest team. In adding Cooper, Bullard, and McKinney to fill massive defensive holes this offseason, the Packers finally set themselves up to be the year that the personnel translates to output on the defense. New defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has to be pleased to inherit this unit.

Gutekunst has become predictably unpredictable in the war room. While he’s markedly more aggressive in free agency than his predecessor, Ted Thompson , Gutekunst has carried on the Packers’ longstanding draft philosophy. Impressive athletic profiles and versatility continued to show up in Green Bay’s picks. However, needs were a noticeable point of emphasis, demonstrating the front office’s intention to go all-in following a breakout season.

McKinney and Bullard will take over for the revolving door of Darnell Savage Jr, Jonathan Owens , and Rudy Ford at the safety position; Cooper will bring youth, energy, and physicality to the spot that the aging De’Vondre Campbell held last season; and Morgan is another high-upside piece to add to Love’s offensive line. His arrival also opens the door for Zach Tom to move to center, a possibility the Packers are reportedly intrigued by. It’s a long road between now and opening day, including crucial transitions for the young guys, but they have flipped multiple key weaknesses into potential strengths overnight — at least on paper.

As they addressed need after need, the elephant in the room became cornerback,  the major position Gutekunst opted not to dip into early on. Star defensive back Jaire Alexander has one side of the field under firm control, but there are a plethora of questions on the other side. Former first-round pick Eric Stokes flashed aggressively in his rookie year, but major injuries have sidelined him ever since. Seventh-round rookie Carrington Valentine held his own in a handful of starts in 2023, but it’s still difficult to view him as a long-term solution.

In a post-draft presser, Matt LaFleur addressed this by saying Stokes “looks great,” suggesting he will be ready to go as CB2 opposite Alexander. That brings the number of Georgia defenders in the starting lineup up to four, with Bullard joining Stokes, Walker, and Devonte Wyatt , another high draft pick primed for a big leap.

One of the primary factors in Gutekunst’s draft domination these past couple of years has been the diamonds in the rough he finds in the middle rounds. This year, seventh-round corner Kalen King feels like a guy who fits that mold. Around this time a year ago, King was forecasted to go on Thursday or Friday. However, he had a rough 2023 season and slid the entire length of the draft. Jayden Reed and Sauce Gardner were among those who shouted him out as a steal.

Interestingly, two of their late-rounders have gotten the better of potential future villain Caleb Williams. Fifth-round safety Kitan Oladapo sacked him in an Oregon State victory over USC, and seventh-round quarterback selection Michael Pratt outdueled him in an absolute boat race of a Cotton Bowl in 2022. Pratt has maintained a decent national profile as the leader of an overperforming Tulane team, and it will be interesting to see if he winds up with the backup quarterback job that currently belongs to Sean Clifford .

Overall, it was an incredibly successful weekend for Gutekunst and the Packers. They put the cherry on top of the Aaron Rodgers trade with the addition of Cooper and have this roster locked, loaded, and ready to make noise in the NFC. Over the next few months, the onus will fall on the coaches to turn personnel into production. LaFleur’s system looked polished and potent in Love’s first year at the helm, and it feels like the sky’s the limit with the entire young core returning. Hafley’s defense will be far more interesting to see. Time will tell if he can avoid the fates of his predecessors, but one thing is certain: Brian Gutekunst has put them all in a position to succeed heading into 2024.

Packers fans weren't thinking what GM Brian Gutekunst was thinking for first draft pick

GREEN BAY – Green Bay Packers fans should never be surprised when General Manager Brian Gutekunst surprises them.

Exhibit A this year is left tackle Jordan Morgan of Arizona, who the Packers nabbed with the 25th pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. It was clear the Packers were not conflicted. They made their pick before much of their 10 minutes expired. Offensive linemen were flying off the board Thursday, as were quarterbacks, so the other positions the Packers most want to fill might still have players they want in the later rounds.

That's how Jim Henaman of Knowlton sees it. "Absolutely," emailed Henaman, who was in Minnesota with buddies from the Owen-Withee area to watch the draft. "The group feels the pick is a good value pick. There is some disbelief they didn’t go defense, but if he works out, he can protect (quarterback Jordan) Love's blind side for a long time! There are still several strong defensive impact players on the board."

That doesn't mean Packers fans who were hoping for Cooper DeJean, a defensive back, or a linebacker, were in accord with Gutekunst's thinking.

"This draft lined up perfectly to take DeJean for his secondary and special teams excellence. Then hit linebacker and offensive round in round two. Nothing against Jordan Morgan, but we lost our bearings," wrote Andrew Larsen of Rockford, Ill. "Missed out on a playmaker and reached there."

More: Who the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings picked in first round of 2024 NFL draft

Steve Schumer of Gillette, N.J., a member of the Packers FAN Hall of Fame, also thought DeJean would be the Packers' initial pick.

"The prevailing thought process was with the depth of this offensive line class, Packers take the versatile and playmaking DeJean in the first round, grab an offensive lineman in the second," Schumer said. "On the other hand, just as surprising was that the Packers had their choice of Morgan, Graham Barton of Duke and Tyler Guyton of Oklahoma. The fact they chose Morgan over both those highly-thought-of players speaks volumes how highly they had Morgan rated."

At Lambeau Field, 1919 Kitchen & Tap, was unusually free of draft watchers Thursday, but Jason Schmieden of Elkhorn and Josh Erskine of Delavan were in Neenah for a bowling tournament and drove up to Lambeau for dinner and the draft.

"We thought, what kind of experience would it be to be in the house (Lambeau) when the pick is made?" Erskine said.

From where they were sitting, they could look out at the Lambeau Field parking lot, to one of places where the NFL Draft stage might be located for next year's draft, and imagine NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell looking back in their direction when announcing the next pick.

Green Bay will host the NFL Draft April 24-26, 2025, at Lambeau Field.

Like the others, Schmieden and Erskine did not expect the Packers' pick to be Jordan Morgan, but "In Gutey we have learned to trust," Schmieden said.

"I thought offensive line needed to be beefed up a little. We were talking about that earlier," Schmieden said. "They have to go with corner back (next). I don't think Cooper (DeJean) is going to be there."

The Packers will have four picks in rounds two and three. After picking 25th on Thursday, the Packers have picks 41, 58, 88 and 91 on Friday. Erskine said safety and middle linebacker were big needs.

Henaman and his guys, who were spending their 22nd draft together, also were thinking defensive backs and linebackers, with the exception of Ryan Looker of Fall Creek, who said before the pick, "I feel they will lean into an offensive tackle."

Henaman said the Packers this year did not have "burning hot, must-have needs," but everyone agreed defense could be shored up.

"I feel we need linebackers, but there doesn’t seem to be someone that is a must-have in the first round. I would say if he’s there, Kool-Aid (McKinstry of Alabama) would be a good fit. Trading down is also an option," said Hutch Ruggles of Eau Claire

Rob Weideman of Knoxville, Tenn., and Chad Shillinger of Prior Lake, Minn., would like game-changing defensive players. "A player that can instantly bolster the run defense," Shillinger said, while Weideman was hoping for someone with explosive speed.

Larsen tried to suss out Gutekunst's thinking. "To take Morgan at 25, I have to believe they think he can play left tackle. That would allow Rasheed Walker to move to right tackle and Zach Tom to center. I have to believe that's their long-term bet in taking Morgan at 25."

João Storer, watching the draft from Brazil, where the Packers will open the 2024 season in São Paulo against the Philadelphia Eagles, said, "About Morgan, I think that’s a fair pick, very Gutekunstesque. Those 6 QB (picks) were awesome for teams that don’t need them."

Whatever his calculation, Gutekunst has earned some leeway because of his previous successful drafts, especially last year's, which propelled the Packers to an unexpected 9-7 season and playoff victory over the Dallas Cowboys, and near victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

"Bottom line for me:  Building a stronger offensive line around your young franchise QB is never a bad strategy," Schumer said. "And at the end of the day, Gutekunst has earned the right with the excellent roster he’s assembled to have our support on Morgan being the right choice."
