Wrist Watch Wednesday… been waiting over a month for this to arrive; the Boderry Voyager automatic. This field watch features the odd ticking Miyota 8215 automatic movement, a titanium case, and sapphire crystal.. all for under $80 U.S. The movement is a simple 3 hand with a date complication at the 4:00 position.. it ticks at an off and odd beat but this is typical for this movement (supposedly). Impatiently waiting for delivery of the black dial watch.  

My watch took 5 weeks from order date and 2 1/2 weeks from shipping date. There was a delay in shipping due to a logistics problem with the strap.  

A great looking field watch. Great choice. Enjoy it.  

Father of five said: My Boderry Voyager arrived today. My first impression is wow a good wow. Fit and finish is first rate. All titanium case is sandblasted giving it a beautiful Matt finish. The strap is a single pass 3 buckle Zulu type which I prefer over the added thickness of the 5 buckle double pass strap. The strap is very stiff and will require some break in, for that reason I’m currently wearing it on a two piece 3 buckle “Bond” Zulu. The sapphire crystal is recessed into the case about .5 mm providing added protection for the crystal, I think this is a must for a field watch. The screw down crown assists in providing the Voyagers 100m of water resistance. The watch is powered by a Miyota 8215 automatic movement with quick date setting and hand winding but no hacking capability. Out of the box it’s running +7 seconds per day. The lumed markers are tiny and fade quickly but still better than most of my Vostoks. Overall the watch is a great value for the money, currently $84 us shipped. By comparison the A-2T Vintage from Bertucci has similar designs and dimensions and weights 62 grams but uses a quartz movement.

Got mine yesterday (black dial) and love it. For the money it's well worth it and seems well constructed.  

Isn’t this just a Bertucci ripoff? Aren’t Bertuccis pretty affordable already?  

You won’t find a Bertucci with the titanium case, automatic movement, and sapphire crystal for the price of the Boderry. In the under $100 price range a new Bertucci has a resin case and quartz movement. I’m not saying that’s bad, it’s a fact.  

This is weirder than usual for the whole homage thing. I understand not liking the fixed lug bars, but that seems like one of the critical features of the Bertucci.

So, today I asked for a progress report and received this reply: "We have returned the movement to Miyota's after-sales department for overhaul, and we can probably issue a new watch to you next week. As soon as we receive the tracking number of the new watch, we will inform you as soon as possible. Please rest assured."  

It’s been 10 days since I ordered my watch and no shipping notification. So I emailed Boderry earlier this week. They replied that they are expecting the factory to send them a new shipment of watches next week.  

It’s a smart watch velcro strap. Inexpensive, light, and comfortable on the wrist. The strap that came with the watch is an exact duplicate of the Bertucci strap. Too thick and stiff for me.  

Have you wet it and worn it to break it in? That seems to help me. There are also more comfortable straps available from Bertucci like cotton and leather. But then again having regular spring bars means the worlds your oyster as far as strap choice.

It’s ben 3 weeks since I ordered my Voyager. Like you, my emails requesting a shipping confirmation bounce back or aren’t answered. Next week I’m going to file a PayPal dispute, hoping PayPal can get them to reply.  

From their site, I sent them a chat message asking for an update. This is their reply: "Hello, We apologize for the delay in shipping your order. We are preparing to ship new watches, because we ship them in the order of after-sales orders, so it may be slower. We will notify you as soon as we receive the new tracking number. " Mmm, OK. WTF is an "after-sales order" anyway? An "order" generated by the return of a defective watch that they shipped? I should get cuts to the front of the line. Whatever. They've had my money for two months. Not much money, admittedly. If my time is worth anything, I'm underwater with this watch.  

Today I received a tracking number for my replacement. That bracelet offer looks very attractive. The Voyage continues.  

Glad to read you’ve received your tracking number. It’s been a week since I received my tracking number. When I go to the package tracking web site it shows - “ Your my package is still waiting to be picked up by the carrier.” So the wait continues ! I agree with you on the bracelet offer but I’m not about to give them any more of my money.  

My replacement has made it stateside, but will probably be a few more days. Has anyone received their replacement yet? Hoping for a satisfactory resolution.  

Finally received my replacement. The Good News: No stutter. The Other News: The lugs are really long. I installed a two-piece strap, and the space between it and the case is massive, like 5mm, despite there being two holes in each lug. I await (patiently, as is required when dealing with this outfit) for the bracelet to arrive. I paid for it on 1 July. When I recently inquired as to its availability, they replied that they now have stock and will send me tracking. Eventually. No indication on their site that the bracelet was a pre-order situation. Yet another case of over-promise, under-deliver with these guys. I hope for their sake that they get their act together. But I'm done with them. YMMV.

Happy to report that my replacement has arrived with no stutter. Good on Boderry for taking care of their customers. I know this will quickly become one of my favorites. So relieved that this "Voyage" has concluded well.  

I paid on July 12th. Not shipped as of the 24th. They can be difficult to contact🤣 if you receive an update on a bracelet shipping date please post it.

Boderry Voyager: A Low-cost Field Watch with High-end Features

If you are looking for a robust, reliable, and feature-packed mechanical field watch that does not break the banks, then Boderry Voyager should be on top of your list. Quality mechanical field watches are often associated with brands like Hamilton, Bulova, and Seiko. Nevertheless, the watch from a micro-band, Boderry Voyager surpasses them all in terms of price and features. I’ve been using this watch for about three months now, so I can provide you with a comprehensive overview of its performance in everyday use. I have the white dial version with a beige nylon strap and will be referring to that in the review. So let’s get started.

Design and Build:

The watch has a 40mm diameter, 12mm thickness, and a lug-to-lug measurement of 48mm. The size is versatile and should wear well on most wrist sizes. Even though the lug-to-lug length is a bit larger for my taste but that is subjective, and you might enjoy it. The dial is large enough, and the Arabic numerals are easy to read, so legibility is not an issue.

The case of the Boderry Voyager is made of solid titanium. Because of its Titanium construction, it is way lighter at around 74g compared to a stainless steel case at the same time more durable and corrosion resistant. Titanium is also hypoallergenic which is a benefit for those with sensitive skin. In my daily usage, I have bumped the watch here and there many times but the watch did not even scratch which is a good thing and shows the case material and polishing is of good quality.

The case has a matt sandblasted finish which looks good on the white dial. The back of the case has a helm printed on it which gives it an adventurous/expedition watch vibe. The crown is located at an uncommon 4 o’clock position, which makes it more comfortable to wear, as it does not dig into your hands while doing any sort of exercise or hiking, or any such activities.

The watch comes with a nylon Zulu strap which was a bit stiff in the beginning but has gotten better with time. The strap quality is good and looks sturdy as well, which is a good thing for a field watch that might go through some rough conditions.

Overall, the build is really solid and sturdy and hopefully will last for a long time before it shows any sign of wear and tear.

The Boderry Voyager uses the Miyota 8215 movement with around 40 hours of power reserve. This is a Japanese time-tested mechanical movement known for its reliability and durability.   It supports both manual and automatic winding. The movement also features date complications adding to the watch’s practicality. However, the movement does not have hacking functionality. 

The watch features Sapphire Crystal glass. Sapphire crystal is harder and more scratch-resistant than glass, acrylic, or mineral crystals used in other watches. Sapphire crystal is also expensive so having this in this price range is a big plus. 

It has a water resistance rating of up to 10 ATM (100 Meters). You should be good while swimming, snorkeling, or doing any other water-based activities wearing this watch, but I won’t recommend diving with this. Considering a field watch this amount of water resistance is plenty enough. 

When it comes to lume, the Boderry Voyager uses Super-LumiNova C3. Its glow remains a bright green color and lasts for a long time. However, when compared to other watches like Seiko, the brightness of the glow in Boderry Voyager tends to fade relatively quickly. Nevertheless, overall, it still provides decent luminescence, which is quite important for viewing time in the dark, making it a valuable feature for a field watch.

Performance:

The Miyota 8215 is a reliable movement. I have seen around +30 seconds of deviation per day which is decent for a watch of this price. The only major problem that I have noticed with this watch so far is the stuttering second hand. Even the beauty of a mechanical watch lies in the smooth movement of its sweeping second hand. I find solace in observing the seamless motion of the second hand, which reminds me that it’s a mechanical watch and not a digital or battery-operated one, devoid of any life. But unfortunately, in this particular instance, this watch seems to have suffered a bit. The stuttering of the second hand can be observed, which diminishes the joy. However, it does not seem to have any significant impact on its timekeeping, which is a good thing. Besides that, you can feel the movement of the rotor in the watch being a bit loud and noticeable when it rotates with the movement of your hand. However, this is a minor observation, but still worth mentioning, I believe.

Comfort and Wearability:

The watch is very comfortable to wear. It is neither a thick nor a heavy watch so feels comfortable to wear throughout the day. Even though I would appreciate a better strap quality initially it felt very stiff and took some time to break in. The 22mm lug width gives you plenty of strap options so you can replace it whenever you want. Style, toughness, and comfort combine to make it not just a field watch but also a good everyday watch.

Value for Money:

I purchased this watch for around 90 USD from Amazon. Considering we get a titanium case, sapphire crystal glass, reliable automatic movement, and 100-meter water resistance at this price, it feels like an extraordinary deal. I have not come across any other brand offering a watch of this quality at this price point. So, I surely recommend buying this watch if you are okay with the minor hiccups.

Conclusion:

Despite some minor issues, such as the stuttering second hand and strap quality, the Boderry Voyager watch presents itself as an excellent value-for-money timepiece in front of us. For many who admire mechanical watches but cannot afford higher-priced ones, it serves as a fantastic entry-level option. As a micro-brand, Boderry has made sincere efforts to maintain quality, and I believe that if they continue on this roadmap, they may well emerge as a reputed brand in the future. Finally, I have been enjoying using this watch and I hope you will also appreciate it.

My free tours Moscow city starts on Slavonic Square (Kitay-Gorod Metro Station), passes the world-famous St. Basil’s Cathedral, which was built by Ivan the Terrible on the south side of Red Square in the 16th century and where the tsars were once crowned. Then it goes across the Red Square at the Lenin Mausoleum, the luxury department store GUM and with a view of the Kremlin towards the historical museum. Of course, you will also learn more about the stories that once happened behind the thick walls of the Kremlin – from the Tsars and Napoleon to Stalin. Then we continue through the idyllic Alexander Garden.

«First acquaintance with Moscow» – a 2.5-hour city tour in the center of Moscow

This Moscow city tour starts on the Theater Square, past Lubyanka Square and the KGB-building, then through Kitay Gorod district and Varvarka Street, past the world-famous St. Basil’s Cathedral. Then it goes across Zarjadje Park, over Red Square at the Lenin Mausoleum, the GUM-department store and towards the Historical Museum. We walk through the Alexander Garden.

A 3.5-hour car/bus tour of Moscow.

This is the best tour of Moscow city as all the important sights are visited. I am your Moscow city guide who will walk you through the city explaining the charming history of the city. This tour begins with picking you up from the hotel. 3 breaks are offered for photographing.

First, we will visit the most famous riverside streets and bridges in the center of the city with the most beautiful views of the Kremlin and the Moskva River (e.g. the Kremlin embankment and the Great Stone Bridge).

The first photo break is made at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. We then pass by the district with numerous museums, Prechistinka Street and the district with numerous medical areas.

We again stop at the Novodevichy Convent, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the other bank of the Moskva River to click pictures.

Then we visit “Sparrow Hills” where you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city of Moscow from the observation deck. Then there are the skyscrapers of Moscow-City, the Kutuzov avenue, the New Arbat, Tverskaya Street, the world-famous Bolshoi Theater, the KGB building and Varvarka Street. Here there are ample spots to click pictures.

We then drive past the Kremlin again and finally reach Red Square. We take a short tour of Red Square and say goodbye in the Alexander Garden.

Tour of Communist Moscow – every day

After the Communist October Revolution in 1918, Moscow became the capital of the Soviet Empire and was the center of socialist orbit for more than 70 years. This left its mark on Moscow, even if the USSR disintegrated more than a quarter of a century ago. The city streets are full of remnants of the communist regime and the Cold War. This is a walking tour where I will show you the most exciting places in Soviet Moscow: from the notorious KGB headquarters, also known as Lubyanka to the Karl Marx Monument to small hidden remains from the time of hammer and sickle. You will also learn about Stalin’s Great Terror political campaign and the system of the GULAG and how the USSR, the communist Russian republic, became modern Russia.

Alternative Moscow Tour – daily

This place not only has trendy cafes and green squares, but here you can see the most beautiful spray works (according to Albrecht Dürer), hangout-places of the youth and hipsters, as well as learn what Moscow looked like in the 19th century. Here you will also learn exciting and even bloody stories about famous gangsters, eccentric business people and legends like the wandering preacher Rasputin, who is known in Russia either as the “holy devil” or the mad monk. To learn a little more about Moscow’s culture, this is the tour for you. On my alternative tour, you will get to know Moscow away from the tourist hotspots. This tour is of 2 hours duration and you will experience the following on the tour:

• St. John’s Hill, a quiet oasis right in the center, where time has stopped as it did in pre-Communist times
• Khokhlovka Art Center, where Russian hipsters and street artists hang out
• Samoskvorechye District where you can see beautiful streets and hear stories from old Moscow

With its 20 towers and high walls, the Kremlin rises imposingly over Red Square. This world-famous fortress with its area of ​​28 hectares is home to over 800 years of Russian history. Described as the eighth wonder of the world, this historic fortress complex is the principal symbol of Russia that sits on the banks of the Moscow River. Today the Kremlin still harbors numerous secrets and has palaces and cathedrals, surrounded by Kremlin Wall. The current wall was constructed between the 15 th  and 16 th  centuries, but the original wall was made of wood around the year 1147. The Kremlin Wall became an important symbol of Moscow’s importance in the Russian Empire. A military tour – riding on tanks in Stupino (Moscow region)

Russian Military is one of the largest military forces in the world formed in 1992. With my Military Tour experience what it likes to be in the Russian military, shooting guns, ride the Tank T-34 and various models of German tanks from the Second World War, as well as armored personnel carriers and vehicles. You will also shoot from the AK-47 and another combat weapon.
