There is no Hong Kong in the list.

Hong Kong has simplified the procedure for Indian passport holders. Now Indians require only PAR (pre arrival registration) which is very easy to obtain online instantly and that too without any fee. PAR is generally valid for multiple entry for six months. reach visit is limited to forteen days.

In 2022, in terms of travel freedom, the Indian passport ranking is 85.

Indian passport holders are able to visit 25 countries visa-free, 33 countries with a visa on arrival, and 29 with an eVisa.

In order to access other countries, an Indian passport holder should go to an embassy or a consulate. For some destinations, a national visa may be substituted by a valid UK, United States, Canada, or Schengen visa.

An Indian passport broadens opportunities to travel to different lands, but it's not easy for a foreigner to obtain Indian citizenship.

Indian passport holders won't need to spend time planning days or weeks in advance, so they are free to go wherever they want. They may travel to some new, unusual destination they wouldn't visit if it required a visa.

As Indians don't waste their energy on paperwork and attending an embassy, they are more open to communication and making friends during the trip.

List of Visa Free Countries for Indian Passport Holders

List of Visa Free Countries for Indian Passport Holders

The very first thing that springs to mind when preparing for a vacation abroad is applying for a visa. Prepare to spend hours online poring over the convoluted visa application procedures for the nation you want to visit. But, did you know that there are several countries where a visa is not required for Indians? In a few other places as well, you can obtain a visa upon arrival.

As of January 2024, there are the top nations in the world where Indians can travel without a visa, with a visa upon arrival, or with an electronic visa. This positions the Indian passport at the 84th level, in terms of the freedom to travel, according to the Henley Passport Index (the global ranking of countries according to their citizen's freedom of travel). But what do nations that don't require visas for Indians mean? Once more, what do entry permit and visa on arrival mean? We'll look at these definitions now.

Visa Types available to Indian citizens

They are official papers that are issued by governments to allow outsiders to travel to their respective countries. Visas are identification cards that specify the length of time you are permitted to stay in the foreign nation, in a contrast to passports which serve as documentation of your country of origin. The visa application process is now governed by a variety of laws from different nations. The table below provides an illustration of the same:

1. Visa-Free:   The advantage of not needing a visa to enter a nation is known as visa-free travel. This is relevant if the two concerned nations have an agreement to that effect or if the nation one is visiting has unilaterally opened its borders to foreign nationals.

2. Visa on arrival: Also referred to as an on-arrival visa, this is a document that is issued to a traveler at the port of entry. Government officials at the port of entry start and finish the full visa-issuing process.

3. E-Visas: In essence, e-Visas are official paperwork that a nation's immigration official issues online to allow travelers entry. These serve as an alternative to conventional paper-based visas granted by embassies.

4. Entry Permit: In place of visas, several nations provide entry permits to visitors. These entry permits are legal documents that grant visitors the right to enter and remain in the nation for a specific amount of time.

In 2024, holders of Indian passports can travel visa-free to 62 other countries. No visa is needed in advance or upon arrival. The particular qualifications for admittance, however, could differ from one nation to another. Indian citizens do not need a visa in advance (i.e., before leaving) or a visa upon arrival to travel to these nations. Here is a list of 24 nations where Indian nationals can travel visa-free:

Visa Types available to Indian citizens

  • Cook Islands

MIDDLE EAST:

  • The British Virgin Islands
  • St.Kiits and Nevia
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • El Salvador

To Conclude:

Indian citizens will not need a visa of any kind, meaning they won't need one at all. To visit a tourist destination that is one of the nations that do not require Indian citizens to obtain a visa before traveling, an electronic visa (e-visa), or a visa upon arrival, you do not need to do either.

It's important to distinguish between nations that allow Indians to obtain visas on arrival and nations that do not. You won't ever need a visit visa of any kind to enter a country that doesn't require one for Indian citizens. However, if you obtain a visa on arrival, you must have it stamped at the port of entry once you have arrived as an Indian tourist.

Everything you need to know about the new £6 EU visa scheme

Rail passengers queue at Eurostar rail terminal at St. Pancras International station in London

What’s the first thing you do after returning from a summer holiday? Start planning another one, of course.

But heading to Europe next year will be a little different for Brits, thanks to a new visa scheme called ETIAS.

As it stands, visitors from the UK can visit the EU’s Schengen area (a borderless collective of 29 countries) for up to 90 days, every 180 days, without a visa.

The new scheme means anyone travelling to popular tourist hotspots including Portugal , Spain and Greece , will need to apply — and pay a €7 (around £6) visa waiver charge.

Here’s what you need to know before you jet off.

What is the new EU visa waiver scheme – ETIAS?

Known as the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), the waiver will be similar to the ESTA, which is required for UK passport holders travelling to the US .

Set to be launched in spring, travellers will need to apply online or via an app. Most applications should be approved within a few minutes – although it could take up to three days.

More complex passengers should give themselves 30 days to be approved

How much is ETIAS?

Officials in Brussels have confirmed that Brits travelling to Europe will need to apply for the visa waiver, and that it will cost the equivalent of €7.

The EU Commission insists this is ‘way cheaper’ than the US Esta, which costs $14 (€12.50 or £10.75).

The fee will apply to travellers aged between 18 and 70, but the visa will be free for children and anyone over 70.

Port of Soller (Mallorca)

When will the EU visa scheme start?

ETIAS is set to be launched in spring 2025 , according to Ylva Johansson, the EU home affairs commissioner.

The ETIAS will be introduced alongside the EUs new Entry/Exit System (EES), which will come into force on November 10.

How long will ETIAS be valid for?

The visas will be valid for three years – or until your passport expires – whichever comes first.

If the ETIAS are indeed launched by spring, it could mean that anyone going away during May half-term will require one.

Why has ETIAS been introduced?

The EES means that all passengers without EU passports will have their fingerprints and pictures taken upon arrival.

The aim is that the combination of the ETIAS and EES will make the European Union’s borders more secure.

Ylva Johansson said: ‘With the Entry/Exit System we will know exactly who enters the Schengen Area, with a foreign passport. We will know if people stay too long. Countering irregular migration.

‘And the Entry/Exit System will make it harder for criminals, terrorists or Russian spies to use fake passports. Thanks to biometric identification: photos and fingerprints. It will be goodbye to passport stamping, hello to digital checks for all passengers from outside the EU, making travel easier, and border checks gradually faster.

‘And then the next step comes quick – ETIAS. Live in 2025 – travel authorisation to enter 30 European countries for people from 60 visa free countries.’

What can India and U.S. do to boost tourism? According to the first Indo-U.S. Tourism and Hospitality Summit held by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce in Delhi on Friday, the answer is speedier visas and more direct flights.

Suman Billa, Additional Secretary with India’s Tourism Ministry, said that the bulk of India-U.S. air travel is through third countries like those in the Middle East or Europe. “If we get more direct flights, not only will the market become more cost competitive for people to travel both ways, but it will also add to the convenience of traveling to the U.S. But for some reason, this is not happening,” he said.

Currently, for the most part, Air India, American Airlines, and United Airlines are the carriers operating non-stop flights between the two countries.

Billa further noted that even though the visa for the U.S. is valid for 10 years, the process is cumbersome.

Still, there’s been a lot of progress. In January, the U.S. Embassy said that it had reduced visa appointment wait times in India by 75% last year, even as there was a 60% increase in applications from 2022. It said that process improvements and staffing decisions brought down the appointment wait time for visitor visas from an average of 1,000 days to 250 days.

At the Skift India Summit in March, Eric Garcetti, U.S. Ambassador to India, said that he was asked by U.S. President Joe Biden to work on reducing the backlog of visa applications. “I don’t know this for sure, but I bet it’s the only time the United States president has told the ambassador, ‘Please work on visa issues,’” Garcetti said.

At the Chamber of Commerce event, Jonathan M Heimer, minister counselor for commercial affairs, U.S. Commercial Service, said that over the past year, visa processing has gained momentum. “We have been able to process 60% more visas with more or less the same resources. We have also issued more than 1.1 million visas in the last year, which is a record for us,” he said.

Short-Term Visas? MakeMyTrip co-founder and group CEO Rajesh Magow suggested the introduction of short-term visas for tourists. “There are many other countries which have done it, so maybe a short-term tourist visa can be quick and could be one potential innovation that can happen,” he said.

Between January and May 2024, India emerged as the second-largest international source market – not including Canada and Mexico – for tourism in the U.S., data from the U.S. National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) showed . In 2023, 1.7 million Indian tourists visited the U.S., and NTTO is expecting this number to increase to 2 million by 2027.

India’s Potential for Growth: Billa said that even though India and the U.S. share a strong bilateral relationship and travel between the nations is growing, there is significant room for progress. “Even though the numbers are good, from the tourism perspective, India has not really capitalized on the potential we have. There is probably much more headroom for us to capture,” he added.

At the Skift India Summit, Garcetti had said that there is a big demand from Indian tourists to visit the U.S., but the reverse is not true. “Americans don’t know India and Indians like India and Indians know America and Americans. I think there’s an awakening happening now, so this is going to be more of a two-way street,” he had said.

“I think there’s a lot of work to be done to promote India as a tourism destination,” he added.

Indian Gen-Z Travelers Embracing Technology to Enhance Experience

Indian Gen-Z travelers (born between 1995 and 2010) are embracing technology to enhance their travel experiences, Booking.com said on Thursday. It said that about 70% of the surveyed Gen-Z travelers in India are comfortable with including more technology in their travel planning.

They are also comfortable taking suggestions from AI on places that are less explored and using it to make an itinerary.

Indian Gen-Z travelers also seek value for money and use off-peak season to travel to save costs. They also consider including unique once-in-a-lifetime experiences during their trip, such as skydiving or hot air ballooning. Over 70% of them also look for travel discounts through loyalty programs to increase their savings.

The platform added that about 70% of Gen-Z travelers admitted to repeating an accommodation that they had enjoyed.

“With 65% of India’s population under the age of 35 years, it is crucial to understand the travel sentiment of the Gen Z travelers as they redefine the way we experience the world. Their eagerness for unique and immersive experiences and tech prowess while prioritizing value for money is driving the demand for innovative technology-based travel solutions and experiential travel,” said Santosh Kumar, country manager for India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Indonesia at Booking.com.

Hong Kong Targeting Indian Travelers to Drive Tourism

Indian travelers are among the biggest spenders in Hong Kong, on average spending INR 100,000 ($1,200) per person, Hong Kong Tourism Board director Puneet Kumar told Indian media . In the first six months of 2024, 181,000 Indians visited the region. The city is aiming to attract 560,000 tourists from India by the end of this year: double that of 2023.

For this, Hong Kong is positioning itself as a year-round destination with major events and festivals. Kumar said that the focus is on Gen-Z and Millennials as the city is looking to encourage repeat and frequent visits by catering to a group that is interested in concerts and festivals.

Apart from this, the board is also looking at leisure and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) segments to attract Indian audiences.

Japan Airlines Enhances Tokyo-Bangalore Connectivity

Japan Airlines is set to increase the frequency of flights between Tokyo and Bangalore to five weekly flights from October, the Bengaluru International Airport has said. The airline currently operates three flights a week on the sector.

Currently, Bangalore is the only airport in South India to offer direct connectivity to Tokyo, and Japan Airlines is the only airline operating on this route. The increase in frequency comes in response to a rise in demand.

The airport said that in 2023, Japan Airlines flew nearly 63,000 passengers between Bangalore and Japan, an increase of 168% as compared to 2022.

Thomas Cook Launches Customer Self-Service App

Thomas Cook India and its group company SOTC Travel have launched a customer self-service (CSS) holiday app. Through this app, the travel services company aims to allow customers an end-to-end post-booking experience.

The app provides features such as sightseeing schedules of customers, their hotel reservations and flight tickets, insurance details, visa status tracker, and weather updates. CSS was piloted in April, and witnessed a customer adoption rate of 50%.

Thomas Cook’s move comes days after it launched an AI-powered platform to help customers plan holidays, check availability, and make bookings quickly by eliminating the need for them to reach out to holiday experts.

Air India Adds Flights to Kolkata for Festival Season

Full service airline Air India has announced temporary additional flights from four cities to Kolkata to meet the travel demand during the upcoming Durga Puja festivities.

While daily additional flights from Delhi have already commenced this month, daily additional flights from Bangalore, Mumbai, and Hyderabad will start next month.
