Ratings and Reviews

I don’t get what to do with most of the sounds. Like how do I set the sound to say unauthorized access or something? A lot of these sounds don’t seem like they have any points since you can’t really set those sounds anyway.

Developer Response ,

Thank you! There's a guide in the app of how to set the sounds with Apple's 'Garage Band' app. If you still need help setting the sounds, write to [email protected]

Ringtones/alert tones one at a time? Get all at once!

Love this so much!

Thank you for building this app! Great central resource for all the Star Trek sounds you could ever want. And thank you for including the tutorial for adding these as ringtones, not the easiest thing to do on iOS

Read This: The story behind Star Trek ’s iconic, ceaseless sound effects

Very few programs in television history can be easily identified by their sound effects alone. The original 1966-69 run of Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek belongs in that select fraternity, thanks to the efforts of sound mixer Doug Grindstaff and other craftsmen who toiled on the classic science-fiction series, setting the tone for the multimedia franchise to come. The sound effects on Star Trek are as cool as they are relentless. This is, in short, a noisy version of space exploration. Despite the supposed lack of oxygen in the vast reaches of the cosmos, the onslaught of beeps, bleeps, pings, clicks, and whooshes never really stops during the average Trek episode. And that’s wholly by design. Over at Audible Range , having interviewed Grindstaff and other experts on the topic, writer Mark Altman has assembled a revealing historical article entitled “ Kittens, Kisses, And Razorblades: Behind Star Trek ’s Iconic Sounds .” Here, to set the proper mood, is some genuine LBJ-era Trek ambiance.

According to the article, the show had “wall-to-wall sound effects” because Roddenberry wanted it that way. Cacophony was very much part of the Star Trek brand. In those early days, the TV series did not have the budget to compete with feature films, so sound effects helped create the illusion that scenes were taking place on strange alien worlds. Roddenberry wasn’t aiming for realism but drama. So committed was Roddenberry to this idea that he even had Grindstaff add a sound effect to a scene in which Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley) administers a shot. “Gene Roddenberry wanted to paint the whole show like you were painting a picture,” Grindstaff explains.

Related Content

Some tricks of the trade are also revealed here. Composer Alexander Courage, who created the original music for Star Trek , was hugely important in determining how the series would sound, working hand in hand with effects people to create weird, often electronic-based noises. Certain noises, however, were decidedly low-tech. When the Enterprise swooshes across the screen during the opening credits, for instance, that’s Courage himself blowing into a microphone. The sound of the Tribbles, meanwhile, came from doves, while the parasites of “ Operation: Annihilate ” were represented by “sampling about a hundred kisses.” Fascinating, Captain.

Star Trek Red Alert Sound Effect (using 555 Timers)

license

Introduction: Star Trek Red Alert Sound Effect (using 555 Timers)

Star Trek Red Alert Sound Effect (using 555 Timers)

My family went on a Star Trek kick recently and I was trying to make something related so I made this to simulate the Star Trek red alert.

First I looked online to find a circuit diagram but I couldn't find any working projects that didn't use an audio recording module. (which doesn't count!)

So I had to make my own that sounded fairly authentic, (by which I mean that I listened to the red alert in videos while adjusting the circuit) and I think I succeeded!

Step 1: Materials

Materials

The things you will need to build this are as follows:

  • Power supply 5V - 15V
  • 555 timers x 2
  • PNP transistor (BJT)
  • NPN transistor (BJT)
  • Select switch
  • 10KΩ potentiometer x 2
  • A bypass capacitor is recommended

A voltmeter is not required but may help with circuit debug.

Step 2: Making It

Making It

(Thanks to user bricomario for the new schematic picture! I had an old one I drew in fritzing that wasn't nearly as nice.)

Put the parts together as in the schematic above.

Then you will need to adjust the potentiometers until you find the right frequency, for me that was at 1/3 of the rotation and 2/3 of the rotation respectively.

Step 3: Theory

Theory

Now here comes the theory, if you are too scared (of theory) or already understand how it works then you can be finished!

First you need to understand the 555 timer .

The first 555 timer is an astable multi-vibrator that is controlled by the voltage from the switch, when the voltage is high then it operates normally, but when the voltage is low it inhibits the operation of the 555 using the reset pin.

Then when the output of the 555 goes high it charges the capacitors through the diode, which as they discharge slowly through the 10KΩ resistor (labeled R4) they create the changing tone you hear.

When the first 555 is high then the second is inhibited, but when it goes low the second is enabled to create the tones determined by the capacitor's charge level.

Now use your voltmeter to measure the voltage at the base of the PNP transistor, as the LED flashes you should be able to see the change in the voltage.

Now put your meter's leads in series with the speaker and measure the current through the speaker.

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Renewed for Season 4; ‘Lower Decks’ to Conclude With Season 5 (EXCLUSIVE)

  • ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Renewed for Season 4; ‘Lower Decks’ to Conclude With Season 5 (EXCLUSIVE) 1 week ago

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks

“ Star Trek : Strange New Worlds,” currently in production on its third season, has been renewed by Paramount+ for Season 4. Meanwhile, “ Star Trek: Lower Decks ,” the first animated “Star Trek” comedy, will conclude its run on the streamer with its fifth season, which will debut in the fall.

Popular on Variety

“Lower Decks” charted brand new territory for “Star Trek” when it debuted in 2020, as both an animated comedy and a series that focused on the junior officers of the USS Cerritos: Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid), D’Vana Tendi (Noël Wells) and Sam Rutherford (Eugene Cordero). Set in the years following the feature film “Star Trek: Nemesis,” the series has included voice cameos from many beloved “Star Trek” alumni, like George Takei, Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, John de Lancie, Will Wheaton, Armin Shimerman, Nana Visitor and Robert Duncan McNeill.

Given its premise, concluding “Lower Decks” make sense considering the main four characters all received promotions in Season 4. But in a message to fans, Kurtzman and executive producer and showrunner Mike McMahan left the turbolift doors open for continuing the characters’ stories following their time at the bottom of the Starfleet pecking order.

The “Star Trek” TV universe, overseen by Kurtzman through his Secret Hideout production company and produced by CBS Studios, has enjoyed a robust expansion since “Star Trek: Discovery” first premiered in 2017. Along with “Strange New Worlds,” the made-for-television movie “Star Trek: Section 31” recently concluded production with star Michelle Yeoh, and the new series “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” will begin shooting later this year.

“It has been incredibly rewarding to continue to build the Star Trek universe, and we’re so grateful to Secret Hideout and our immensely talented casts and producers,” said Jeff Grossman, executive vice president of Programming at Paramount+. “‘Strange New Worlds’ has found the perfect blend of action, adventure and humor. Similarly, ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ has brought the laughs with an ample amount of heart to the franchise across its four seasons. We can’t wait for audiences to see what is in store for the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos in this final season.”

“‘Lower Decks’ and ‘Strange New Worlds’ are integral to the ‘Star Trek’ franchise, expanding the boundaries of the universe and exploring new and exciting worlds,” said CBS Studios president David Stapf. “We are extraordinarily proud of both series as they honor the legacy of what Gene Roddenberry created almost 60 years ago. We are so grateful to work with Secret Hideout, Alex Kurtzman, Mike McMahan, Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers and the cast, crews and artists who craft these important and entertaining stories for fans around the world.”

‘rupaul’s drag race’ names season 16 winner, bill maher says ‘quiet on set’ made nickelodeon seem like neverland ranch.

An exasperated Bill Maher , notorious for not having his own children, asked on Friday’s ‘Real Time’ why he is the one who is always left trying to defend them.

In his “New Rules” editorial, Maher trained his guns on the shocking Max documentary Quiet on Set , which detailed what the past young stars went through on the Nick sets. “OMG,” was Maher’s opening salvo.

Related Stories

Bill Maher

Bill Maher Uncovers The Truth Behind William Shatner's Most Famous 'Star Trek' Kiss

Bill maher rounds up the usual suspects in 'real time' focus on phones and woke.

The documentary is the talk of the town in Los Angeles, Maher said, but pointed out that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was derided when he was saying the same things about Disney’s actions.

He cited a famous Willie Sutton quote about robbing banks “because that’s where the money is.” The reason we find pedophiles in certain corners of show business, Maher said, is because “That’s where the kids are.” He noted “DeSantis wasn’t wrong,” and expressed disgust that the left “will support child f**king if the wrong party calls it out.”

Case in point, he noted how Brian Peck was rehired to work on a children’s series after serving 16 months for abuse. “For pedophiles in Hollywood, it’s a small world after all,” he said.

Maher also called out Instagram moms pimping young daughters and Drag Queen Story hours. “Not that there’s anything wrong with being a drag queen,” he said. “But lets admit it’s more for the Queen than the kid.”

Maher said he can’t pretend that certain things are cool.

“Wokeness is not an extension of liberalism any more. It’s taking something so far that it’s the opposite.” Teaching kids not to hate is fine, “but at a certain point, inclusion becomes promotion.”

Children are “gullible morons who just want to please grownups,” Maher said. Thus, endless talking about gender to six-year-olds is “what law enforcement calls entrapment.” It’s suggesting someone into something they wouldn’t do, he said, “and if you think that’s not happening, you haven’t seen any TikTok videos.”

“Maybe we should think abut giving kids a break from our culture wars for a minute,” Maher concluded. “Or at least until the election is over.”

Earlier, Maher had a one-on-one interview with fitness guru Jillian Michaels , who warned of the horrors of Ozempic weight-loss use.

“Diet and exercise is the only way” to lose weight, she said, calling the drug use “a devil’s bargain.” She said to look at the warnings on the box, which has a laundry list of side effects that range from nausea to kidney failure and vision loss. “They are hacking your biochemistry,” she said, and leading to “yo-yo dieting on crack.”

Maher’s panel discussion had Jon Meacham , Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and author of The Call to Serve: The Life of an American President, George Herbert Walker Bush ,” and  Jane Ferguson , foreign correspondent for PBS NewsHour,  The New Yorker  contributor, and author of No Ordinary Assignment.

They talked about the New York Trump Trial and the NPR reporter who resigned this week because of his distaste at the partisan politics of his newsroom.

Maher had the best line about NPR, calling its CEO Kathryn Maher (no relation), “a Portlandia character. She’s the kind of white woman who would say she’s Beyoncé spirit animal.”
