The Hallmark Channel Summer Nights 2023 programming event continues with A Safari Romance starring Andrew Walker ( Three Wise Men and a Baby ) and Brittany Bristow ( Holiday Date ). Here's everything we know about the latest Hallmark Channel original movie.

A Safari Romance premieres Saturday, August 12, at 8 pm ET/PT on Hallmark Channel. This is just one of the movies that is part of the network's Summer Night's program, which also includes Making Waves .

As of this writing there's no release date for the UK.

Here's the official plot of A Safari Romance from Hallmark Channel: 

"Megan is a research scientist living her dream in South Africa pursuing a Ph.D. in Ethology, while working as a ranger on a nature reserve. When Tim, an American theme park designer, arrives to capture footage for an immersive, safari-themed attraction, Megan serves as his guide. As they explore the savanna and observe giraffes, elephants and lions in their natural habitats, they open up to each other about their dreams and begin to grow close. Things are going well until Amy, a woman from Tim's past, arrives to take over the project. Amy's reckless disregard for rules puts Megan's job at risk and threatens Megan and Tim's budding romance. Megan, knowing that Tim will soon return home, is also wary of giving her heart to someone who lives half a world away — but she may find that love is an adventure worth taking."

Andrew Walker is a Hallmark Channel mainstay with over 20 Hallmark movies to his name. Some of his most popular movies include A Dream of Christmas , Bottled with Love , My Christmas Family Tree and the hit 2022 holiday film Three Wise Men and a Baby .

Brittany Bristow started acting at a young age, appearing in feature films like Perfect Pie and Blizzard . In addition to her roles in TV and film, she's also the host of National Geographic's Wildlife Quest .

Hallmark’s A Safari Romance: All Shooting Locations and Cast Details

With Leif Bristow at the helm, Hallmark’s ‘A Safari Romance’ is a romantic comedy movie that follows a humble wildlife biologist named Megan Henry, currently working on a project to protect the exotic wildlife in Africa. Soon, she gets visited by a theme park designer named Tim Ericson, and she serves as his guide while he captures footage for an immersive safari-themed attraction. Exploring giraffes, elephants, and lions in their natural habitats leads to them exploring each other’s dreams.

Just when Tim and Megan begin to get close, a woman named Amy from his past takes over the project and halts the budding romance between the two. Moreover, her reckless nature and complete disregard for rules put Megan’s job at risk. Since Tim is about to return home, she feels wary of falling for someone who lives half a world away but realizes that love is all about taking risks. With the backdrop of the breathtaking African savannah grasslands in the movie, the viewers are bound to be curious about the actual filming sites.

‘A Safari Romance’ was filmed in South Africa, specifically in Cape Town, Broederstroom, and the Limpopo Province. As per reports, principal photography for the romantic movie commenced in May 2023 and wrapped up by the end of the same month. Cape Town, South Africa

Reportedly, the shooting for many important scenes of ‘A Safari Romance’ took place on location in Cape Town, South Africa’s legislative capital and oldest city. Situated on the shore of Table Bay, it is popular for its harbor, natural setting, and landmarks, including Cape Point and Table Mountain, some of which supposedly feature in the backdrop of a few scenes. Other than the Hallmark romance, the city has hosted the production of numerous film projects over the years. Some notable ones include ‘ The Giver ,’ ‘ The Kissing Booth ,’ ‘ Redeeming Love ,’ ‘Ryan’s Daughter,’ and ‘The Last Post.’

Other Locations in South Africa

For shooting purposes, the director and his team also traveled to other locations across South Africa, including the Lion & Safari Park at R512 Pelindaba Road in the village of Broederstroom. The established tourist destination offers a wide range of activities you can indulge in, such as animal interactions, self-drives, and guided game drives. Visitors can also hand-feed a selection of animals, such as giraffes and ostriches.

Moreover, Mabula Game Lodge at Rooiberg Road Rhinosterhoek Spruit in Mabula Private Game Reserve in the Limpopo Province served as yet another pivotal production location for the romantic drama movie . Just a two-and-a-half hour’s drive from Johannesburg, the Mabula Game Lodge offers a variety of landscapes filled with animal, bird, and plant life, which is captured beautifully for the movie by the director and his team.

A Safari Romance Cast

Brittany Bristow essays Megan Henry, the wildlife biologist in the Hallmark movie. The multi-talented Toronto-born actress has played notable roles in different productions like ‘Perfect Pie,’ ‘Blizzard,’ ‘Shadowtown,’ ‘Kiss and Cry,’ ‘The Marijuana Conspiracy,’ ‘ Holiday Date ,’ and ‘ The Love Club .’ So, with numerous film credits under her belt, she is a recognizable face in the industry for many viewers.

Meanwhile, Andrew Walker plays the character of Tim Ericson, the theme park designer in the movie. What Is Hallmark’s A Safari Romance About?

Ready to take a trip to South Africa? Here is what A Safari Romance is about. According to the Hallmark synopsis , research scientist Megan is living her best life. She is living in South Africa, working as a park ranger at an incredible nature reserve. She sees giraffes every single day. Megan is also pursuing a Ph.D. in Ethology.

She enjoys a normal routine with tourists coming in and out, as well as working with the locals. But, things dramatically change when American theme park designer Tim comes to the reserve.

He is there to observe the giraffes, as well as elephants and lions for “an immersive, safari-themed attraction.” Her job is to guide him to the wildlife. But, they soon share a lot about themselves and grow close.

However, when Amy (Simoné Pretorius) gets into the picture, things get dicey. Amy is a woman from Tim’s “past.” Unlike Tim, she doesn’t follow the rules that are necessary for their safety, and for the animal’s safety. This puts Megan’s job in jeopardy.

More than that, Amy has now become the third wheel in their cozy walks and animal observations. Any sort of romance is now put on hold. But, Megan is now starting to believe that maybe this is for the best. Tim does live halfway across the world.

Once Tim gets all of his information, he will return to the States and Megan won’t see him again. She doesn’t want to get her heart hurt. But, is she missing out on the biggest adventure of them all?

When Can You Watch A Safari Romance ?

The premiere of A Safari Romance is on Saturday, August 12, at 8 p.m., Eastern, on the Hallmark Channel. In addition, Peacock will stream this movie up to 72 hours after the premiere.

Where Was Hallmark’s A Safari Romance Filmed?

Based on Brittany’s Instagram ,  and Andrew’s Instagram , they filmed in Mabula Game Lodge, and Lion & Safari Park, both in South Africa, in the north-eastern part of the country.

Hallmark’s A Safari Romance is a Bristow family affair. Brittany Bristow is the star. In addition, her father Leif Bristow is the director and executive producer. Lastly, Brittany’s mother Agnes Bristow wrote the script and is a producer. The three worked together in the 2022 movie A Tail Of Love .

In Hallmark’s latest offering from their Summer Nights line up, Andrew Walker and Brittany Bristow will whisk us all off our couches and transport us on an exciting adventure in South Africa. A Safari Romance tells the story of Megan, (Bristow)  a research scientist pursuing a Ph.D. in Ethology, while working as a ranger on a nature reserve and Tim (Walker), an American theme park designer who has traveled to South Africa to collect footage for an immersive, safari-themed attraction back in the States. Meghan serves as Tim’s guide to the reserve and she teaches him all about the animals who call the savanna home. Check out an exclusive clip below:

Filmed entirely on location in South Africa, this flick is full of beautiful imagery of giraffes, zebras, elephants, and lions in their natural habitat. It’s like a full blown nature documentary but with a good dose of romance. As Meghan and Tim work together and grow closer, sparks fly. But then, Amy, a woman from Tim’s past, arrives on the reserve. Amy, played by Simoné Pretorius, stirs things up both in Tim’s professional world and his personal one when she simultaneously makes sweeping changes to his project and puts Megan’s job in jeopardy. There is also a second romance budding between Tim’s colleague, Darius and ranger trainee, Kamara. All of the tension plays out with the most beautiful of backdrops. 

Before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Walker shared some behind the scenes footage on his social media. In one post, we see Walker interact with one of his many scene-stealing four-legged co-stars that fill this film–not an AI creation in sight. It’s clear this was one special project for the veteran actor.

Hallmark Channel Favorite Andrew Walker Shares the 'Highlight' of Shooting 'A Safari Romance' in South Africa

"[We] rehabilitated the school we shot one of the scenes at," the actor revealed on Instagram

For Andrew Walker , the best part of shooting his latest Hallmark Channel film was giving back.

The Canadian actor, 44, revealed on Instagram that the "highlight" of shooting A Safari Romance earlier this year was being able to help fix up a school in South Africa.

Walker shared a short video to the platform on Thursday, showing costar Brit Bristow and several of their peers painting the interior and exterior of a building, laying some bricks outside, and coming together to give a local school an updated look.

"The one story I haven’t shared yet… @britbristow @leifbristow @agnes.bristow and a team of other crew members rehabilitated the school we shot one of the scenes at," he said of himself, producers, fellow actors, crew members and director Leif Bristow.

"We weren’t able to see the kids' faces when they showed up to a new classroom, freshly painted exterior, new park, new soccer balls, and a new brick patio, Monday morning…. but I’m sure it was sweet!!"

The actor added that he was able to tap both his sister JenniMay and father Bruce to assist.

"Putting my sis and pops to work day 1 after 20 hrs of travel was also a highlight 😆," Walker wrote. "Thanks for initiating this Leif & Agnes Bristow, this is what makes you two who you are. ❤️"

Walker has been updating fans on his time in South Africa over the last few months, from sharing a clip of his day with elephants in May , to uploading a heartfelt video of the moments he danced with local students .

In his elephant clip, Walker stood underneath the animal, pet it from different angles, and looked enthused as he posed for a few images. "Looking into his eyes you could see his kindness," Walker wrote. "I’ve always appreciated elephants but this experience really took it to a whole new level. Love that I got to have my dad and sis with me." Walker also noted the "tragic fact" that "there’s still anywhere between 20,000 - 35,000 African elephants being poached each year" and encouraged his followers to look into the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

A Safari Romance , which premiered Aug. 12, marks the latest of Walker's work with Hallmark. He's previously starred in 2022's Three Wise Men and a Baby , 2021's The 27-Hour Day , and 2020's Sweet Autumn , among many other projects.

In 2020, he and frequent costar Nikki DeLoach  opened up to PEOPLE about their natural chemistry on screen for Sweet Autumn , and how they "immediately connected over kids" as new parents.

"I felt like I had known him my entire life," DeLoach said at the time. "There's just such an ease with Andrew. I do think that there is something that happens, and it doesn't happen for everyone."
