Situated along the Atlantic coastline, Namibia is the fifth largest country in Africa. It shares land borders with Angola and Zambia to the north, Botswana to the east and South Africa to the south. Our luxurious, remote and intimate camps are found across Damaraland, Sossusvlei, the Hoanib and Skeleton Coast, and the banks of the Kunene River in the Hartmann’s Valley.

What currency is used in Namibia?

The currency in Namibia is the Namibian Dollar (NAD) which is fixed to, and therefore equivalent to, the South African Rand (ZAR).

What time zone is Namibia in?

Namibia shares the same time as all of Southern Africa, which is two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) + 2 hours, in the Central Africa Time Zone (CAT).

Can I use my credit cards in Namibia?

MasterCard and Visa (both with raised credit card numbers so that an imprint may be taken) are generally accepted throughout Namibia, including Wilderness. Holders of other cards are advised to clarify with a commercial bank whether their card is acceptable in Namibia. American Express and Diners Club specifically are no longer accepted in Namibia and, therefore, not at our camps either.

What is the power socket do they use in Namibia?

While some camps/lodges are linked to the national power grid, most of our camps/lodges are situated in pristine and remote wilderness areas where we need to generate our own electricity. We do this by making use of solar panels and/or generators, which charge a bank of batteries and provide electricity to the camp/lodge through an inverter system. We use 220V-powered plug points (3-prong round/2-prong round) for lighting, fans, the charging of batteries and sleep apnoea machines.

What do I pack for a safari Namibian?

We advise guests to wear comfortable and casual clothing while on safari. Neutral colours are best for game viewing. You may also want to pack swimming gear and clothing suitable for adventuring. Game drives usually take place in the early morning and late afternoon, which can be cold, especially in winter. Temperatures usually warm up during the day, so it is best to dress in layers.

Namibia is located in the south-western reaches of Africa, with South Africa to the south and east, Botswana to the east, Angola and Zambia to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.

What is Namibia known for?

Namibia is world famous for the highest dunes in the world at Sossusvlei, and for the immense Etosha National Park, one of the world’s greatest conservation areas. Namibia offers some of the world’s best wildlife viewing, from desert-adapted elephants, lions and giraffes, to other fascinating wildlife, plants and natural wonders.

When is a good time to visit Namibia?

Namibia is a great year-round destination. Some of the best months to visit are between June and October. This is the dry season when the temperature is not too hot or too cold.

What is the capital of Namibia?

Do i need a visa to travel to namibia.

Namibia currently offers visa-free travel to all countries for stays up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date you expect to leave Namibia.

We address all concerns surrounding COVID in line with the latest recommendations from the World Health Organization and other leading authorities. Do I need a yellow fever vaccination to visit Namibia?

If you are travelling to Namibia from areas infected with yellow fever, you must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. We advise our guests to also have an updated TPD (tetanus, polio, diphtheria) vaccine and a hepatitis A vaccine.

Do I need to take malaria tablets when visiting Namibia?

Yes. Malaria is a risk in some parts of Namibia. Please chat to your Travel Designer or travel clinic before your departure, to make sure you have enough time to take any prescription medicine needed to prevent malaria.

Where to go Namibia

Damaraland is home to the open-air gallery of Twyfelfontein. Here, you will find thousands of ancient engravings made by the indigenous San people – making this UNESCO World Heritage Site a must-see in Namibia.

Etosha National Park

Known as the 'Place of Mirages', Etosha National Park's incredible landscapes range from vast savannahs to silver salt pans. Keep an eye out for herds of blue wildebeest and desert elephants.

This is one of Namibia’s most remote and inaccessible areas. In Kaokoland, you can meet the Himba and learn about their traditional lifestyle on a cultural safari. In the region, you can also spot desert elephants, giraffes and black rhinos.

Flowing from Angola into Namibia, the Kunene River is the only perennial water source in the entire region. From here, embark on nature drives and boating excursions in search of Nile crocodiles. You can also venture further and explore remote mountains, river valleys and waterfalls.

The NamibRand Reserve

As one of the largest private reserves in Southern Africa, the NamibRand Reserve aims to help protect and conserve the unique ecology and wildlife of the south-west Namib Desert. Its vast vistas make for some incredible sunset views. The NamibRand Reserve also lies in one of the darkest regions on earth, making it one of the best places to go stargazing.

Okonjima Nature Reserve

Enjoy unrivalled game viewing experiences at Okonjima Nature Reserve. It is arguably one of the best places to spot predators in Namibia. Head out on exhilarating game drives and nature trails to track Big Cats that have been rehabilitated by the AfriCat foundation.

The Skeleton Coast offers varied landscapes of lengthy beaches, towering sand dunes, secret rivers and mesmerising canyons. Board a flying safari to spot on the skeletal remains of vessels and large concentrations of seal colonies.

With some of the most surreal landscapes on the planet, Sossusvlei is known for its rust-coloured ridges of sand and mosaics of cracked clay soil. It is located in the Namib-Naukluft National Park and is one of the oldest and driest ecosystems on the planet. Visit during the months of October to April to see the desert transform with bright desert flowers blanketing the dunes.

Swakopmund and Walvis Bay

These two towns are located between the Namib Desert and Skeleton Coast and are the ideal base to explore the natural wonders of the region. Adventure sports are some of the best things to do in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. Skydiving, dune boarding, quad biking and scenic balloon flights are some of the many incredible experiences waiting for you.

Namibia’s vibrant capital city, Windhoek is an interesting gateway to the rest of the country. The city is dotted with fascinating buildings that look like they belong in northern Europe. Namibia is a land of endless horizons, from blazing desert dunes to glittering celestial vistas across some of the darkest and clearest skies on Earth.  As one of the world’s least densely populated countries and with more wild animals than people, Namibia’s otherworldly landscapes will bring you a solitude more peaceful than ever before. A trip to Namibia contains such variety; from navigating the sand seas of the world’s oldest desert, with its burning orange dunes and iconic clay pans of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei,  to the haunting shipwrecks of the Skeleton Coast. There's also a  wealth of oddities to explore on a Namibia tour, such as the abandoned diamond mining town of Kolmanskop, now half-submerged in sand. Namibia is home to some of the harshest environments in the world, yet you'll still find an abundance of desert-adapted life. It is home to the famed Africa Big Five (elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard), and its emerging leadership in conservation entitles Namibia as the first African country to include the protection of the environment into its constitution.  The country boasts some of Africa's safari tour opportunities in protected areas such as Etosha National Park, where wildlife spotting is boundless. The famous waterholes within the park can be dense with wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, oryx, wildebeest and zebras, while lions, leopards and cheetah roam nearby looking for an easy meal.  Critically endangered black and white rhinos are also well-represented within the park and you have a great chance of an encounter during your vacation. Namibia is home to diverse native cultures, including the San of the Kalahari (often called the world's most ancient tribe), the Herero (known for their distinctive colonial-influenced dress), and the Himba of Kaokoland (recognised for the red ochre cream used on their skin and hair). The best time to visit Namibia

Namibia has two main seasons - the rainy season (November to April) and the dry season (May to October). Thanks to the vast area of desert and cool coastal winds, Namibia has great temperatures all year round and can certainly be visited at any time.

The rainy season offers its own charm, and while it can get humid, visitors are rewarded with dramatic thunder and lightning storms over the desert, animals flourishing in the conditions and plenty of young animals which can mean exciting predator action. 

The best time to visit Etosha National Park is between July and October, when herds of animals gather around the few remaining watering holes. During September and October the country tends to get more dusty, which can affect the clarity for photographers. Namibia also has its own Oktoberfest celebration due to its German heritage.

What Makes NamibRand a Wilderness Quiet Park?

Spanning over 200,000 hectares and nestled between the Namib-Naukluft National Park and the Namib Sand Sea World Heritage Site, the NamibRand landscape is striking. 

Known for its “red dunes, fairy circles, and open desert vistas”, it offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience nature in its purest form as NamibRand’s appeal goes beyond its visual allure; it’s now a sanctuary of silence .

The reserve’s strict conservation measures have preserved this quietude for decades. Guest accommodations are limited to just one bed per 1,000 hectares, ensuring minimal human presence.
