GWK Travelex If you should still need foreign currency just before your trip, you can contact the GWK Travelex office for this. Tip! Order your currency online and benefit from an attractive discount. All currencies can be collected within 5 days at the GWK Travelex office at our airport. If you need the currency sooner, please contact the branch on 010 – 415 0623.

To withdraw money, you can go to the ATM at our airport. This machine can be used 24 hours a day and can be found at the GWK Travelex office in the transit hall, before passing through security.

Capi Travel Plaza In the Airport Shop you will find a wide range of perfume, cosmetics, books and souvenirs.

Don't expect to rely on U.S. dollars in Amsterdam: as a member of the  eurozone , the Netherlands is one of 19 countries in the European Union that's adopted the euro as its official currency . The value of the euro has fluctuated considerably since it was first introduced in 2002 - from parity with the dollar in 2002, to $1.60 2008, and back to near-parity in 2015. But no matter the relative value of the euro to the dollar, it's wise to seek out the best conversion rate ahead of time.

Recommended Amsterdam Currency Exchange

ATM machines typically offer the most favorable rates for travelers who want to convert their dollars to euros. In this case, the card holder's bank sets the conversion rate; certain fees may or may not apply. Some U.S. banks don't levy conversion fees for international withdrawals, whereas others do (usually 3% or less); be sure to check with your bank beforehand. While the majority of Dutch banks do not levy ATM fees, some U.S. banks deduct several dollars for each transaction outside their network, and possibly extra for international withdrawals. Some credit card companies also allow cardholders to withdraw cash advances from ATMs, but cash advance fees usually apply. ATMs, or  geldautomaten  in Dutch, are widely available across the Netherlands as well as at Schiphol Airport. (Note that not every ATM accepts international cards, so don't panic if your card is rejected - but do have a Plan B lined up just in case; see below for advice.)

Currency exchange services are another option, but their rates are usually less favorable than ATMs. The best currency exchange service in Amsterdam is not a widespread chain, but a business with just one conveniently located office: Pott Change , at Damrak 95. Just steps from Dam Square and minutes on foot from Amsterdam Central Station, Pott Change consistently offers the best exchange rates in town.

While GWK Travelex offices are situated at convenient points across the country, the company has a reputation for unfavorable rates - the worst of which are to be found at the company's several Schiphol Airport locations. Beside Schiphol, GWK Travelex has offices at Eindhoven Airport , Rotterdam Airport, and almost every major railway station in the country, and their services are widely used out of sheer accessibility.

Nevertheless, most visitors would do best to withdraw money directly from an ATM (provided that their banks levy only modest fees or none at all), or at least wait to convert their currency for a better rate at Pott Change.

Convenient travel by bus, tram and metro

The RET day or multi-day tickets allows you to travel at the hours of your own convenience without any limitation throughout Rotterdam, day and night, on the bus, tram, and metro. The day ticket is valid for 1 calender day until midnight.

Note:  these tickets are only valid in RET metros, trams, and buses. Thus, these are not valid in the regional buses of Connexxion, Arriva or on the train.

This day-ticket may be used by people of all ages. However, for children age 4 up to 11 years old there is a Rotterdam day ticket with reduced price (€ 5,00).

In addition to RET sales points, the day ticket and are sold at some hotels, campsites and other institutions, at tourist information centers in Amsterdam and GWK branches in Amsterdam and at Schiphol.

How to use the Rotterdam Day Ticket

The Rotterdam day Ticket is valid for 1 day. There are no day-tickets available for multiple days for Rotterdam. Using your Rotterdam Day Ticket is easy:

• Tickets are valid for 1 calender day until midnight. Your ticket is activated the first time you check in on a tram, bus or metro.
• You must check in and out with your card every time you enter and exit one of the vehicles.
• Tickets are valid on all metro, tram and bus lines operated by RET, including night buses.
• Tickets are NOT valid on NS trains or bus lines in the Hague.
• If you have additional questions or your ticket appears to be defective, you can go to one of the sales locations listed above for assistance.

Very practical for traveling Rotterdam.

A very good value ticket that provides access to all buses, trams, metro and ferry services in the Rotterdam area. The ticket can be used to travel to the beach using the new Metro line to the Hook of Holland (45 minutes), this makes a nice contrast to the city centre. Remember to check in/check out on each tram/bus service used, it’s easy to forget!

Travel Money Advisor: Our Travel Money bureaus, located in selected supermarkets (UK only) make shopping for foreign currency and currency cards an easy experience. You could be working in either a dual or single employee bureau. Your bureau can feel like a small business inside a bigger business where you’ll have the autonomy to promote your bureau, plus run campaigns and awareness days.

The UK is where Travelex began back in 1976, when Lloyd Dorfman opened our first store in central London. We have rapidly grown to cover the length and breadth of the UK at numerous airports, seaports and supermarkets as well as over 20 countries worldwide – coupled with our Peterborough Global Support, Operations and

Customer Service Centre and other support offices in the UK. Travelex is one of the market leading providers of foreign exchange products, solutions and services. We process and deliver currency orders for major banks and credit unions globally, as well as for travel agencies, UK supermarkets, hotels and casinos. Much of this is supported by colleagues in the UK whether that be at support offices or cash processing centres.

Travelex’s European journey began in 1985 in Netherlands where we obtained the concession to operate our first currency exchange office in the passenger terminals of the North Sea Ferries in Rotterdam. Later in 2004 Travelex acquired GWK, the leading FX company in the Netherlands, and we merged the two entities into GWK Travelex. Since then we have successfully opened 50 GWK Travelex branches throughout the Netherlands, covering all the airports and city centres.

The next stop was, establishing the German market in 1993, where today we are operating 18 Travelex branches at the main airports, including: Berlin, Frankfurt, Hannover and Hamburg.

Our European operations are supported from our main centres in Amsterdam and Frankfurt.

Our first store in Australia opened at Brisbane’s domestic airport in 1990, since then we have grown to become the leading foreign exchange business in Australia and New Zealand with 200 retail stores across all major cities. In addition we have one of the marketing leading website, apps, ATMs and the Travelex Money Card, with a support office in Sydney.

In Japan, we have over 70 stores with over 200 colleagues in all major cities with a support office in Tokyo.

We established ourselves in Greater China in 2005, where we have over 30 stores covering several major cities including Beijing, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Zhuhai, Nanjing, Qingdao, Kunming and Shanghai , where our support office is also based.
