Ancient Greeks invented the theatre with most cities having a theatre – some of which had capacity for up to 15,000 people.

• The first “modern” Olympic Games were held in the Greek capital Athens in 1896.
• Around one-third of the entire Greek population currently lives in Athens, but that represents just 1% of its total land area.
• Greece’s highest mountain Mount Olympus in the north of the mainland was claimed to be the “home of the gods” in ancient Greek religion.
• Around 80% of the country is mountainous while 50% of Greece’s land is covered by forests.

Greece’s temperatures soar to well over 30C in the summer months of July and August. This is also the most crowded time of year. Temperatures are more moderate (mid 20Cs) in May-June and September-October, as well as being quieter. Greece’s climate means it is not known as a winter-sun destination but Athens is a good option for a city break year-round.

The Greek capital is one of the largest cities in Europe with a population of around four million. Athens has a history dating back 5,000 years and the skyline is dominated by the Acropolis and its monuments, including the magnificent Parthenon temple. Another must-see is the nearby Acropolis Museum, which only opened in 2009, to view fascinating archaeological artefacts. Other historic sites are dotted around the city, while the Plaka area is packed with shops, bars and restaurants. Syntagma Square is the centre of modern Athens and is home to the Royal Palace, where the Greek parliament sits.

Peloponnese

The southern part of the mainland, lying to the south of Athens, features some of the most important sites in ancient Greek mythology including Mycenae, Pylos and Epidaurus, which is still home to a well-preserved ancient theatre. The region is also home to Olympia, which hosted the ancient Olympic games for 1,000 years. The peninsula features many pretty beaches around its coastline while hiking trails through gorges and caves make the Peloponnese ideal for a varied touring holiday.

Greece’s largest island in the far south of the Aegean sea often thinks of itself as a country in its own right. The major two headline attractions are the Bronze Age historic site Knossos, near Heraklion, and the Samaria Gorge in the south of Crete. The island benefits from having two gateway airports at Heraklion and Chania. The major beach resorts are located around the largest city Heraklion in the east, while quieter areas can found around Chania on the western side. To escape the crowds completely, head to the sparsely populated south of the island.

Ionian islands

This group of seven islands off the western coast of the Greek mainland is headlined by the long-time tourist destination and gateway of Corfu, as well as beautiful Kefalonia. The group also includes Zakynthos, Lefkada and Ithaca. The islands are known for their clear blue waters, rugged coastlines, lush vegetation and forested mountains.

Cyclades islands

The headline attraction within this group of southern Aegean islands is Santorini with its spectacular volcanic cliffs and rock formations including the submerged caldera - the remains of an old crater and one of the most photographed sights in Greece. Mykonos has white-washed buildings and traditional windmills, but is also well known as a party island and for being more expensive than its neighbours, which include quieter options such as Naxos, Paros and Milos.

Dodecanese islands

Rhodes is the main draw of these islands on the eastern side of the Aegean. Rhodes has a rich history that can be seen in the medieval castle, ancient walls and old city of Rhodes Town, as well as the acropolis and archaeology of Lindos. Other smaller Dodecanese islands include Patmos, Samos, Kos and Symi.

In the north-west of the Aegean lie the Sporades islands – only four of which are inhabited: Alonnisos, Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros. The islands are renowned for their beautiful beaches, forests and offering some of the best diving and snorkelling in Greece. The region is also home to the Alonissos Marine Park.

Greece is renowned for its food and drink with classic dishes such as grilled souvlaki kebabs, moussaka and lamb kleftiko featuring on many menus. Seafood is another speciality including delicacies such as octopus, lobster and squid (calamari). The country is equally famed for its drinks such as the spirits Ouzo and locally brewed raki, which is normally served at the end of meals. Retsina is a traditional resinated wine that has been produced for more than 2,000 years, while more traditional red and white wines are also widely available.

Greek people are very proud of their history and culture, and also of their own individual region or island. Religion still plays a major role in Greek society with the vast majority of the population belonging to the Greek Orthodox church. Easter week is one of the most important times of the year with a series of celebrations culminating with fireworks on Easter Sunday. Greeks are very hospitable, so expect a warm welcome wherever you go. They particularly appreciate it if you try to use a few words of Greek or are willing to join in a traditional dance or celebration.

As befits a nation with so many islands and coastlines, many of Greece’s wildlife experiences centre on sea life. Alonissos Marine Park is the largest protected marine area in Europe and is home to several species of dolphin and whale, as well as the monk seal and abundant birdlife. Zakynthos also has a marine reserve which includes endangered loggerhead sea turtles who lay their eggs on the island’s beaches. Elsewhere, Cretan ibex may be spotted in the Samaria National Park and Rhodes attracts thousands of butterflies every May. Otters, wild boars and even wolves can be seen in the Nestos Delta on the north-east of the mainland.

Few countries can match Greece’s ancient history, which dates back to 1900BC and saw the country invent democracy as a political concept. The Greeks were also responsible for creating the original ancient Olympic Games nearly 3,000 years ago. The country’s modern history dates from the 1820s when it became independent of Turkey’s Ottoman Empire. After occupation by the Germans during the Second World War, the country then endured a civil war until 1949. Greece joined the European Community in 1981 but has faced years of economic hardship in recent years.

Ancient Greeks invented the theatre with most cities having a theatre – some of which had capacity for up to 15,000 people.

• The first “modern” Olympic Games were held in the Greek capital Athens in 1896.
• Around one-third of the entire Greek population currently lives in Athens, but that represents just 1% of its total land area.
• Greece’s highest mountain Mount Olympus in the north of the mainland was claimed to be the “home of the gods” in ancient Greek religion.
• Around 80% of the country is mountainous while 50% of Greece’s land is covered by forests.

Greece’s temperatures soar to well over 30C in the summer months of July and August. This is also the most crowded time of year. Temperatures are more moderate (mid 20Cs) in May-June and September-October, as well as being quieter. Greece’s climate means it is not known as a winter-sun destination but Athens is a good option for a city break year-round.

The Greek capital is one of the largest cities in Europe with a population of around four million. Athens has a history dating back 5,000 years and the skyline is dominated by the Acropolis and its monuments, including the magnificent Parthenon temple. Another must-see is the nearby Acropolis Museum, which only opened in 2009, to view fascinating archaeological artefacts. Other historic sites are dotted around the city, while the Plaka area is packed with shops, bars and restaurants. Syntagma Square is the centre of modern Athens and is home to the Royal Palace, where the Greek parliament sits.

Peloponnese

The southern part of the mainland, lying to the south of Athens, features some of the most important sites in ancient Greek mythology including Mycenae, Pylos and Epidaurus, which is still home to a well-preserved ancient theatre. The region is also home to Olympia, which hosted the ancient Olympic games for 1,000 years. The peninsula features many pretty beaches around its coastline while hiking trails through gorges and caves make the Peloponnese ideal for a varied touring holiday.

Greece’s largest island in the far south of the Aegean sea often thinks of itself as a country in its own right. The major two headline attractions are the Bronze Age historic site Knossos, near Heraklion, and the Samaria Gorge in the south of Crete. The island benefits from having two gateway airports at Heraklion and Chania. The major beach resorts are located around the largest city Heraklion in the east, while quieter areas can found around Chania on the western side. To escape the crowds completely, head to the sparsely populated south of the island.

Ionian islands

This group of seven islands off the western coast of the Greek mainland is headlined by the long-time tourist destination and gateway of Corfu, as well as beautiful Kefalonia. The group also includes Zakynthos, Lefkada and Ithaca. The islands are known for their clear blue waters, rugged coastlines, lush vegetation and forested mountains.

Cyclades islands

The headline attraction within this group of southern Aegean islands is Santorini with its spectacular volcanic cliffs and rock formations including the submerged caldera - the remains of an old crater and one of the most photographed sights in Greece. Mykonos has white-washed buildings and traditional windmills, but is also well known as a party island and for being more expensive than its neighbours, which include quieter options such as Naxos, Paros and Milos.

Dodecanese islands

Rhodes is the main draw of these islands on the eastern side of the Aegean. Rhodes has a rich history that can be seen in the medieval castle, ancient walls and old city of Rhodes Town, as well as the acropolis and archaeology of Lindos. Other smaller Dodecanese islands include Patmos, Samos, Kos and Symi.

In the north-west of the Aegean lie the Sporades islands – only four of which are inhabited: Alonnisos, Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros. The islands are renowned for their beautiful beaches, forests and offering some of the best diving and snorkelling in Greece. The region is also home to the Alonissos Marine Park.

Greece is renowned for its food and drink with classic dishes such as grilled souvlaki kebabs, moussaka and lamb kleftiko featuring on many menus. Seafood is another speciality including delicacies such as octopus, lobster and squid (calamari). The country is equally famed for its drinks such as the spirits Ouzo and locally brewed raki, which is normally served at the end of meals. Retsina is a traditional resinated wine that has been produced for more than 2,000 years, while more traditional red and white wines are also widely available.

Greek people are very proud of their history and culture, and also of their own individual region or island. Religion still plays a major role in Greek society with the vast majority of the population belonging to the Greek Orthodox church. Easter week is one of the most important times of the year with a series of celebrations culminating with fireworks on Easter Sunday. Greeks are very hospitable, so expect a warm welcome wherever you go. They particularly appreciate it if you try to use a few words of Greek or are willing to join in a traditional dance or celebration.

As befits a nation with so many islands and coastlines, many of Greece’s wildlife experiences centre on sea life. Alonissos Marine Park is the largest protected marine area in Europe and is home to several species of dolphin and whale, as well as the monk seal and abundant birdlife. Zakynthos also has a marine reserve which includes endangered loggerhead sea turtles who lay their eggs on the island’s beaches. Elsewhere, Cretan ibex may be spotted in the Samaria National Park and Rhodes attracts thousands of butterflies every May. Otters, wild boars and even wolves can be seen in the Nestos Delta on the north-east of the mainland.

Few countries can match Greece’s ancient history, which dates back to 1900BC and saw the country invent democracy as a political concept. The Greeks were also responsible for creating the original ancient Olympic Games nearly 3,000 years ago. The country’s modern history dates from the 1820s when it became independent of Turkey’s Ottoman Empire. After occupation by the Germans during the Second World War, the country then endured a civil war until 1949. Greece joined the European Community in 1981 but has faced years of economic hardship in recent years.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01: arrival at athens.

Start your journey in the city that is one of the oldest in the world, Athens. Famous for being the cradle of democracy and the ground where many of the ancient philosophers were born, Athens has many architectural marvels that are still standing today. As soon as you arrive, one of our representatives will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel. After check-in, you can wander around this marvelous city independently.

Day 02: Athens and Cape Sounion

Enjoy the tour of Athens and get amazed by the city’s contrasts. Go to the famous Acropolis Hill and the new Acropolis Museum. Take a walk to the Dionysiou Areopagitou Street, visit Theatre of Dionysus and watch the Changing of the Guards at Syntagma Square. Proceed to Panathenaic Stadium before heading to Lycabettus Hill for panoramic views of the city. End your day with a visit to the Temple of Poseidon and a breathtaking sunset over the Aegean Sea at the Cape Sounion.

Day 03: A Day in Liberty

Spend a full day in Athens to discover the city as you wish. Explore the ancient site of Acropolis or the modern buildings of the Pantheon or just roam around the colorful districts of Athens. Enjoy your evening with a taste of traditional Greek cuisine in a tavern. Accommodation at your hotel for one night.

Day 04: Ferry ride from Athens and Santorini

After that you have to check out from the hotel and then you can take a ferry to Santorini. On arrival, you will be met by our tour guide who will transfer you to your hotel and then you will be free to go out and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the island. Visit the village of Oia, famous for its stunning sunsets, and have dinner in a local taverna. Accommodation in your hotel for the night.

Day 05: Half day sightseeing tour in Santorini

Take a glimpse at the Red and Black beach of Santorini and witness the wonder of the volcanic sand. Head to the Akrotiri Excavations to witness the remnants of the ancient civilization that was buried under volcanic ash. Day 06: Santorini – A Day at Leisure

    day 1 - welcome to athens,     day 2 - guided city tour - visit the acropolis and the museum.

Today, we go on a guided tour of Athens, we visit to the Acropolis, the crowning beauty and glory of Ancient Athens, the awesome Parthenon, the Propylea, the temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion, with its Porch of Maidens. Next, we drive to the Roman Temple of Olympic Zeus, the Panathinaikon Stadium (site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896), and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament House on Constitution Square. Then we drive along Panepistimiou Avenue and view the Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, University, and National Library. Later, you can enjoy free time at Plaka. Overnight in Athens.(B, D)

   Day 3 - Athens – Mykonos – Paradise Beach

Today, we proceed to the Port of Athens to board the Ferry to Mykonos Island – the most famous Greek island and one of the world’s most popular holiday resorts. The totally whitewashed houses and blue domed Churches fit closely together to form a one of the kind maze of narrow alleys and streets. On arrival, proceed on orientation tour of Mykonos. See the Panagia Paraportiani church and the monastery of Panagia Tourliani. Evening is free to explore beautiful beaches, and a spectacular sunset on own. Overnight in Mykonos. (B, D)

   Day 4 - Mykonos – Santorini

Today, after breakfast, we proceed to Mykonos port to take the High-Speed ferry to Santorini. On arrival, we check-in to the hotel. Later, we spend some free time at Kamari Beach, and then proceed to Fira, the beautiful capital of the island and the biggest and most cosmopolitan settlement of Santorini. Enjoy a walking tour followed by some free time at Fira. Overnight in Santorini. (B, D)

   Day 5 - 9D Atlantis Show and Museum + Santo winery (Optional) – Tour of Santorini

Today, the morning is free to relax or you have a chance to enjoy a 9D Atlantis Show and Museum + Santo winery (Optional). Later, we proceed on a half day Santorini island tour to the Center of the island and on the highest point where you will visit the hidden gems of the area. We will see the charming Megalochori village, a labyrinth of winding alleys, whitewashed houses, and blue-domed churches with ornate bell towers. We also see the 16th century Monastery of Prophet Elias which was built on the highest point of the Island 567 meters above sea level, from where you will have a panoramic view of the whole island village of Pyrgos. Next stop will be the traditional village of Oia which is on the northern tip of the island, high on the cliff top. Overnight in Santorini. (B, D)

   Day 6 - Santorini – Athens – Delphi - Archaeological Site and Museum

   day 7 - meteora (visit 2 monasteries) – athens.

After continental breakfast, proceed to Meteora. Few kilometers northwest of the town of Kalabaka, the impressive rocks of Meteora are rising from the plains of Thessaly been one of the most amazing places in Greece. The Greek word Meteora means “suspended in the air” and this phrase aptly describes these remarkable Greek Orthodox monasteries. We visit 2 of the 14thcentury ethereal monasteries, situated above the unique and dramatic landscape of naturally formed high rocks. Later drive back to Athens. Overnight in Athens. (B, D)

   Day 8 - Return back home with pleasant memories!

Today, we proceed to the airport on your own for your flight back home.Kindly spare a few minutes to share your feedback with your Tour Manager. Your valued suggestions will be most appreciated. Arrive home with pleasant memories of your Europe tour, which we are sure you will treasure for a lifetime. (B) Note: In major cities like Athens, there are parking restrictions for coaches and it is not possible to stop at all the places during the city tour. SIGHTSEEING

• On certain departures, we may sometimes amend / reverse the itinerary. However, all the services / inclusions will remain the same.
• Generally, you will have to walk at sightseeing places, amusement parks and at the airports sometimes for a long distance; however the same will be timely instructed by the Tour Manager. It is advisable to carry good pair of comfortable sports shoes. The tour manager and the driver will do their best to get you as close to the monuments as possible.
• There are a few attractions and entrances that are currently closed due to COVID and in case the same remain closed at the time of the groups visiting, a refund will be provided.

WHAT YOUR TOUR PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE

• Passport, Visa charges, Airport & Port taxes.
• Insurance, laundry, telephone charges, transfers all items of personal nature and also food and drinks not forming part of the group menus.
• Private airport transfers, Cost of Suggested / Optional Excursions.
• Any increase in the rate of exchange leading to an increase in all land arrangement which may come in to effect prior to departure.
• Tipping is expected from anyone providing your service e.g. Coach Driver, Local Guides, Hotel & Restaurant staff etc. It is mandatory to tip a nominal amount of EURO 3 per person/per day. For the entire duration of this tour which is 8 Days, the total Tips amount is EURO 24 per person to be paid to the Tour Manager on Day 01 of the tour.

Important notes:.

• All hotels will be either around the airport area or in the outskirts.
• Most hotels in Europe have only Twin beds. Double bed will be Queen size and not King size.
• As a 3rd person in a triple room, most hotels use rollaway beds and room size may be the same as the double room.
• For Child with bed: At times hotel don’t have enough roll away beds, in that case they might give a double and a separate single room.
• A person 12 years and below is considered a child and above 12 years, an adult.
• Hotel rooms may not be air conditioned / air cooled nor will fans be provided. Air conditioning / cooling in hotels are set as per European weather conditions.
• Functioning of Air cooling / Air conditioning in hotels is subject to official declaration of summer by the local authority.
• During heat wave in Europe air conditioning of the hotels and coaches may cease to function as they are not built for such high temperatures.
• Most hotels in Europe do not provide tea kettles in the rooms.
• Due to international events and trade fairs all throughout Europe such as Air Show, music festivals, ice skating championships etc., you may have to stay in hotels further away from the city.
• Any damages caused to the hotel rooms / Coach during your stay, shall be payable by the passengers.
• We also reserve the right to substitute a hotel of similar class if it is deemed advisable or necessary.
• In certain cities hotels have not started the buffet breakfasts yet and if the same does not change by the time the tours begin, we will either provide breakfast or the groups will be taken to an Indian / local restaurant for breakfast.
• Most of your journey in Europe is by coach and hence you are requested to keep the coach clean.
• Due to hygienic reasons it is not permitted to use toilets in the coach. However the tour manager will make comfort stops during long drives.
• Eating & drinking is not permitted in the coach.
• One check in bag and one hand bag per person only, due to limited boot space in the coach.
• In major European cities, there are parking restrictions for coaches and it may not be possible to stop at all the places during the city tour. Tour Manager will try his/her best to stop coach wherever possible for a photo stop.
• Coaches are non-wheelchair compliant. There are steps to board / alight from the coach.
• Due to private coaches being forbidden inside most of the European cities; as per EU norms to preserve them and to avoid getting them polluted and overcrowded, most of your sightseeing will be done by local buses and by foot.
• In case any member of the group tests positive for COVID-19, customers will need to unconditionally abide, adhere and comply solely at your costs and expenses to all laws, rules, notifications, Travel advisories, guidelines, directives and communications issued from time to time by all or any Governments, Authorities, Ministries, Departments, Local Bodies in India or Abroad, related to your tour to the foreign destination and/or on your return from the tour to your home destination in India or Abroad including but not limited to Covid-19 Protocols on quarantine, vaccinations etc. or in connection with any other Pandemic, epidemic, disease, condition etc., which may be communicated by all or any Governments, Authorities, Ministries, Departments, Local Bodies in India or Abroad with or without notice at any point of time whether at the commencement of the tour, during the tour and/or on the completion of the tour, as the case may be”.
• On some occasions you may have to join another group in case the group does not have adequate members.
• A local representative or a driver may only be there to assist you during your initial part of the tour.
• Security alerts and random closures might affect the itinerary.
• Please take extra care of your personal belongings while on the tour, every country you travel to is prone to thefts and bag snatching. TCIL will not be liable for any loss of belongings / baggage.
• Disabled clients should carry their own wheelchair and should be accompanied by a qualified companion who is able to provide assistance to the disabled client.
• TCIL shall not accept any liability or responsibility for any damages, loss, baggage loss, theft, injury, accident, death, breakdown or irregularity, which may occur in carrying out the tour arrangement, weather conditions, strikes, war, quarantine and any other cause whatsoever and all such loss or expense must be borne by the passengers. Insurance policies must be carried while on tour.
• The management reserves the right to claim any additional expenses incurred due to delay or changes in schedules of train, airplane, bus, ship or other services.
• The Tour Manager and the company reserves the right to amend the itinerary, alter, vary or withdraw any particular departure, excursion advertised. For the convenience of our passengers, we will sometimes amend the itinerary. However, all the services will remain the same.
• There are no refunds for any services i.e. meals, sightseeing etc. not utilized on your tour
