Our Athletic Beginner tours are perfect for those who aren’t avid cyclists, but are fit and love to exercise regularly.

On these trips, you’ll enjoy a flowing pace with plenty of time throughout the day to indulge in the local specialties, take in the local culture and enjoy the magnificent views. There will be an occasional hill, more rolling terrain and higher mileage than an Easy tour.

These “Epic” and “follow the race” tours are spectacular and have plenty of classic climbs and are perfect for cyclists who covet long mileage with lots of hills and varying terrain.

From the Renaissance city of Florence to the pristine beaches of Elba, Tuscany’s cultural wealth and natural beauty are incredibly rich and varied.

We begin south-east of Florence cycling on the Setteponti Road for a couple of days among infinite olive groves. From there we’ll pedal through the vineyards of the hilltowns of Chianti, and through the twisting streets of Siena. Strolling Siena’s narrow maze of cobblestone walkways is an amazing architectural journey, and the view from Siena’s famous tower will make your head spin!

From Siena we travel through dramatic landscapes to Volterra. Our tour finishes on the enchanting island of Elba. One of the most beautiful islands in Italy, Elba has been recognized for centuries for its elusive beaches, warm crystal waters, mountain vistas, and tranquil villages. We’ll park our bikes, dive into the warm blue waters, and discover why Napoleon chose to exile to this humble paradise.

L'anno scorso ho conosciuto Viaggiareinbici su internet e, vedendo le foto, mi è sembrata una buona proposta per una bella vacanza in Toscana da girare in bicicletta. 26 – 29 sett 2024: Giro dell’isola d’Elba | Dettagli del tour

PRIMO GIORNO – La prima tappa, molto breve e con una sola salita, ci condurrà al campeggio di Lacona, direttamente sul mare, dove avremo modo di rilassarsi un po’ e prepararsi alle successive tappe.

SECONDO GIORNO – La seconda tappa sarà dedicata alla parte occidentale dell’isola. Un itinerario alla scoperta della parte più conosciuta dell’isola con le famose spiagge di Cavoli, Seccheto, Fetovaia e Pomonte e la caratteristica città di Marciana.

TERZO GIORNO –  Esploreremo la parte orientale dell’isola, più rustica e autentica, con le città di porto Azzurro, Cavo e Rio nell’Elba, e le suggestive colline ferrose. Chi si vorrà cimentare con il Volterraio potrà affrontare 4 meravigliosi chilometri di salita (pedalabile) per raggiungere quota 300 metri s.l.m. e godere di un paesaggio meraviglioso!

QUARTO GIORNO – L’ultima tappa del tour ci porterà al paese di Capoliveri e poi nuovamente a Portoferraio dove riprenderemo il traghetto nel primissimo pomeriggio.

 Punto di ritrovo giovedì alle 15.30 allo sbarco dei traghetti a Portoferraio, Isola d’Elba. Chi decide di raggiungerci in macchina potrà lasciare l’auto per la durata della vacanza in uno dei numerosi parcheggi custoditi nei pressi del porto di Piombino. In alternativa potete imbarcarla e arrivare al campeggio in auto, dove potrete lasciarla gratuitamente. Per chi arriva in treno, invece, la stazione di fronte al porto è Piombino Marittima.

A chi si rivolge il tour

La costa dell’isola d’Elba è molto frastagliata e l’entroterra collinare, di conseguenza il dislivello delle tappe è abbastanza impegnativo e consigliato a cicloturisti abituati a pedalare su distanze di una cinquantina di chilometri. Tuttavia essendo un percorso circolare e con tappa fissa nel paese di Lacona risulta perfetto anche per famiglie o accompagnatori non pedalanti che possono godersi la spiaggia, gli splendidi paesaggi dell’isola d’Elba e la compagnia del gruppo.

Il percorso è interamente asfaltato ed è possibile percorrerlo con qualsiasi tipo di bici, dalla bici da corsa alle mtb.

The complete island tour of Isola d’Elba

It’s possible to ride around the whole perimeter of Isola d’Elba, both in a clockwise and anticlockwise direction. It’s 109 kilometres, but fun times are guaranteed.

Description

Not only beaches and cliffs, sun and sea… on Isola d’Elba paths unwind drawing perfect trajectories along the coast, vineyards, olive groves and the fragrance of aromatic herbs. This is the case with the route going around the whole island, both clockwise and anticlockwise: 109 kilometres with continuous rises and descents, and a couple of short but challenging climbs such as Volterraio and Monte Tambone.

If you choose the clockwise side, you’ll have to tackle the tough face of Volterraio, while in an anticlockwise direction you can cycle along the outer lane of the road, more exposed to the wide stretches overlooking the sea, but ideal to better enjoy the jagged coastline and views of the island.

Trails, single tracks, changes of terrain and the most unique views on Elba Island

This tour, divided into five stages, fully explores the queen island of the Tuscan archipelago: an MTB adventure that combines the technical aspect of the trip with the more enjoyable ones. Pay attention also to the descents, with technical paths but always addressed in safety, thanks to the constant presence of the 365tv staff who will also give us useful advice on cycling technique. The tour is based at “Residence il Mandorlo” in Lacona, a bike hotel with pump track and swimming pool, a strategic point to explore both the western and eastern sectors of the island and to take advantage of refreshing swims at the end of the bike days. Level: suitable for intermediate / expert bikers. Bike: full-suspension cross country / trail MTB recommended. In case of front suspension XC bike, good riding technique required. In case of Enduro bike, good training is required. Possibility to rent top full-suspension e-MTB. Protections: helmet and knee pads are mandatory (open or modular helmet recommended). Guide: 1 MTB expert instructor.

Overnight in Lacona – Residence il Mandorlo ***

Easy technical level stage. We cross the island from south to north, climbing over Colle Reciso to take an ancient military road. Simple descent towards Acquabona and towards Enfola: a promontory of rare beauty. Perfect place also for a lunch break. Return with return on Colle Reciso and fun descent we arrive in Lacona, destination of the day.

Dinner in a partner restaurant. Overnight in Lacona – Residence il Mandorlo ***

We’ll arrive in Marciana by shuttle, at 375 m above sea level, which rises at the base of Monte Capanne, the highest point of the island with its 1019m. We continue to climb along an ancient road towards Madonna del Monte, a sanctuary surrounded by greenery. Up here it takes a path full of colors and scents that leads us, via an uphill technical path, to the most difficult descent, namely the Semaforo (altitude 744 m): a very technical descent that takes us swooping to Chiessi. In this small beach we can relax by drinking and eating something in an extraordinary context. Afterwards you return to the hotel from the Costa del Sole by simple paths interspersed with asphalt.

Ring tour from Lacona that reaches, after about 18 km, one of the most fascinating points of the island: Masso alla Quata on Monte Perone. From there we face one of the most spectacular descents of the tour, the triptych Cielo Alto – Sassi Ritti – Roman Columns. The reward after all this tiring fun is in Cavoli, with a lunch break on one of the most beautiful beaches on Elba. The return is easy, along internal roads, towards Lacona.

The itinerary first runs alongside the prison – still in operation – with magnificent views of the beaches of Barbarossa and Reale, then passes through an area of ​​ancient mines, where we can see the small lake of Terra Nera, a lake of mining origin. We pass by the village of Rio nell’Elba and then go up to Monte Capannello, which offers a 360 degree view of the entire island. We face the technical descent of le Scalette and arrive in Bagnaia for a break. From there return to Lacona by shuttle.

Today’s route takes place among the paths of Monte Calamita, theater of the MTB World Championships: based on the condition of the participants, the length of the excursion will be decided: fun is guaranteed, the paths are super flow with a crazy view. There will be no shortage of passages at the Vallone and Punta Calamita mines. Lunch break at Tenuta delle Ripalte, a wonderful resort within the Costa dei Gabbiani Protected Park, just before returning to Lacona by shuttle.

After five intense days, the last day we enjoy full freedom.

We will sail the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean in search of hidden coves as we learn the basic skills of sailing from our skipper. We will trail along archaeological sites and Napoleonic villas, vineyards, olive groves and white stone beaches against a backdrop of breathtaking seascapes.

Day 1: Sailing Day - Marina di Punta Ala – Porto Azzurro We wait for you at Marina di Punta Ala at 3 PM and set sail at 5 PM for Elba Island. During the journey, you will learn the first rudiments of sailing. We will explain all important factors you can look forward to on the trip, followed by dinner on board. We will then spend a pleasant evening together in Porto Azzurro a quaint coastal village dominated by the spanish Fort of Longone from the 16 century.

Day 2:  Bike Tour - Capoliveri promontory – 35 km – 22 ml After a hearty breakfast, we leave the boat and get on two wheels. Off we go with our guide cycling land inwards in  Elba Island. You'll notice scents of aromatic herbs and a light sea breeze as you cycle through vineyards and olive groves, small villages and breathtaking landscapes. We will visit the iron mine to learn about the history of the island and taste the wines and typical products on a visit to a local farm and savour the famous Aleatico sweet wine. Dinner in one of of the many restaurants and pizzerias of your choice,  then enjoy an evening stroll or relax on board.

Day 3: Sailing Day - Porto Azzurro – Marciana Marina This day is dedicated to sailing around the island. Plunge into the crystal clear waters and swim to hidden beaches you can reach only by boat . We will also have the opportunity to practice sailing with our experienced skipper. In the evening, you will be free to explore the shops in the port and the excellent local bars and restaurants of Marciana Marina.

Day 4:  Trekking Day - Marciana Marina - Excursion to Monte Capanne This is a day to remember,  with the ascent to Mount Capanne by cable car, then light trekking up to its peak (1019 meters above sea level) — the highest point of the island. From here, you'll have a 360° view of the island and the entire Tuscan Archipelago, all the way to Corsica and mainland Tuscany itself. Around midday, we will descend again, to sea level. In the afternoon free time to enjoy the many artisian shops with local products, sightseeing and relax in the beatiful beach at the foot of the 15 century Appiani  tower . Dinner on board, our sailboat is moored in the central marina.

Day 5: Bike Tour - Marciana Marina - Portoferraio -  35 km – 22 ml The day will be dedicated to the discovery of the north of the island where Napoleon sojourned in 1814. We will visit the Napoleonic residence  Villa dei Mulini , free time to visit the village of Portoferraio surmounted by the Fortress Medicee  and time permitting a visit to the archaeological excavations of the Villa Romana delle Grotte . We will spend the evening on board, enjoying a good aperitif and an excellent dinner at sunset sailing to Marina di Campo.

Day 6: Bike Tour - Pianosa Island -  loop tour 18 km - 12 ml With the ferry from Marina di Campo to Pianosa Island. On two wheels we go to the discovery of  the beauties of the island once a famous high security prison, now a protected natural oasis with lush vegetation and spectacular seabeds under emerald waters. Free afternoon to bathe on the island's waters or take an optional activity (snorkeling, kayaking, trekking). We return to the Island of Elba in the late afternoon where we will reach our boat. An aperitif followed by an excellent dinner on board, cradled by the tranquil sea.

Day 7: Pto Azzurro – Punta Ala Our last day is dedicate to refining our sailing skills, enjoy many dives into the deep blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea and coast the island in search of isolated coves. Back in Punta Ala in the late afternoon, under the golden rays of sunset we will enjoy a group dinner in one of the port’s restaurants.

Day 8: Punta Ala After breakfast, this cycling and sailing tour is officially over.

Road Cycling tours Elba

The cycling routes on Elba islands  are very varied which makes the sensation of cycling on this island even greater. On the road from Rio nell’Elba to Porto Azzuro you will find the so-called “Fonte di Coppi”. This is a place named after Fausto Coppi, towards the end of his career he came to train in Elba. That really indicates that you can enjoy road cycling on Elba. Elba is therefore also a very interesting place for cyclists.

Don’t forget to take a tour around Monte Capanne (1019m) by the coast. This is a hilly route with superb views across to the island of Corsica. The route takes you through numerous little ports with turquoise waters – it’ll be hard not to stop at every opportunity!

The island also attracts a lot of MTB Bikers coming to the Capoliveri Bike Park. Very famous is the Capoliveri Legend Cup. This Capoliveri Legend Cup is a huge MTB event for thousands of MTB lovers who gather on the island of Elba in the month of May, when the island is at its most beautiful.

You can’t miss this experience. Come with us to the island of Elba for a truly unique enduro ride, we will leave the port of Piombino by going there with our van equipped with a bike trolley, we will take the ship and reach the island in 40 minutes from there we will leave for the trai Buca del Bandito but be careful, to reach it you will have to walk with your bike on your shoulder for a few minutes but the view and the trail will be one of the highlights of your holiday. After we will continue in the cable direction passing through other singletrak bellissi, we would have them a lunch with a pizza tour by the sea and then continue and finally return to Piombino with the ship enjoying the journey between the islands of the Tuscan archipelago.

Mountain biking on the Island of Elba

Excursions for everyone, beginners and professionals.

Elba is known as the Island of sport and, without exaggerating, it is considered one of the best national destinations for Mountain Bike lovers . Sport is essential to keep fit and many choose to come on holiday to the Island of Elba in the low season just to have the opportunity to make healthy movement before the summer holidays

Its paths are an excellent training for everyone and even real professionals choose the island to prepare for important competitions. Mountain biking is an excellent excuse to escape the daily grind and be outdoors with two wheels; cyclists of all levels will find a true paradise on the Island of Elba.

Excursion for beginner bikers

Let’s start with the “simple” things, that is, the paths for those who are beginners with this sport. The first route that we suggest you do is the one that, from the municipality of Capoliveri, leads to the Costa dei Gabbiani , on Mount Calamita . The road is all flat and along the road you can have the opportunity to see the remains of the ancient mines and also make a stop at the Mining Museum that you will easily see along the way. The panorama is all sea view, it will fascinate you to see Corsica, Pianosa and Montecristo and, in the clearest days, the Giglio Island and the Argentario.

Also on Monte Calamita, in Capoliveri, we point out the presence of a Bike Park, or 5 permanent routes that develop for more than 100 km of paths and wonderful interchangeable roads between them. Each route has a specific color (from the easiest to the most difficult) and is signaled, on the territory, by several signs indicating the direction to follow, a number referring to the point where the signal is placed, so that it can be identified on the map, and the name of the place where it is located.

The complete tour of the Island of Elba (on the road)

140 km of wonderful ride, with departure and arrival from Capoliveri. From the hill of Capoliveri, you arrive at Porto Azzurro and continue towards Rio Marina. After that, a beautiful climb separates us from the symbolic fortress of the Island of Elba: the Volterraio Castle . We lose a few minutes to observe one of the most beautiful masterpieces of nature (the view from here is truly magnificent) and then descend to the crossroads of Schiopparello.From here we follow the signs for Portoferraio and once you reach the first traffic light, you turn left towards the Lacona beach and continue on what is called the “monument road”. We are cycling along the west coast, and the aim is to get to the medieval Marciana, and then continue to Poggio. From Poggio go down towards Marciana Marina and from here continue towards Portoferraio and then to Capoliveri.

In estate, sulle strade della costa, soffia una leggere brezza che evita di soffrire troppo il caldo e anche nelle giornate più assolate l'ombra dei castagni, salendo verso la montagna, offre sempre un rinfrescante riparo; i colori dell'autunno rendono il paesaggio pittorico, mentre in inverno attraversando i sentieri che si snodano nel cuore dell'Elba sarà possibile scorgere le vette dei monti più alti dell'isola o di quelle vicine, coperte da una coltre di neve. Poi, quando la natura selvaggia dell'Elba si risveglia e diventa rigogliosa, solletica la voglia anche dei “ciclisti della domenica” di ricrearsi in punta di pedali ammirando il paesaggio variopinto e immergendosi nei profumi di erbe aromatiche, viole, ginestre e naturalmente del mare.

Tutti possono scoprire l' Isola d'Elba in bicicletta : in mountain bike nei sentieri boscosi, con la bici da strada per trovare i paesi della costa e quelli adagiati sulle pendici dei monti; in salita e in discesa seguendo i percorsi delle mulattiere e delle pietraie, perché l'Elba si lascia scoprire anche da chi pratica questo sport in modo più estremo.

In summer, a gentle sea breeze over the coastal roads helps keep you cool, but should you suffer the heat when the sun is at its hottest, just head upwards towards the mountains and seek some refreshment in the shade of the chestnut trees; autumn colours offer truly picturesque scenery, while during the winter months, if you follow the paths across the whole of Elba you will see the snow capped highest peaks not just in Elba but also those in some of the nearby islands. As soon as spring comes back, and Mother Nature blossoms back to life with the lush, Mediterranean bush in full bloom, those considered "Sunday cyclists" come out to admire the multi coloured countryside all around, as well as the breathtaking view of the sea, and breathe in the perfumes of the aromatic herbs, pansies, and broom.
