Youth Staff Jobs on Cruise Ships

Part of the entertainment department on a cruise ship, the Youth Staff organizes and leads activities for guests aged three to 17.

Similar to the position of Cruise Staff , applicants should have related hosting, stage or public speaking experience along with strong microphone skills. Work experience in guest services, child care, resort or recreational camp is also an asset.

Some cruise lines expect that potential candidates should have a physical fitness and/or recreational sports instruction background with resorts, sports facilities or related recreational facilities. Where do Royal Caribbean Group ships sail? Our ships sail around the world and visit exciting and unique destinations on every continent. Many employees note that traveling the world is one of their favorite parts of working on our ships.

What companies make up the Royal Caribbean Group? We are made up of five brands: Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity, Silversea, Tui Cruises, and Hapag-Lloyd.

What is a letter of employment? A letter of employment (LOE) is a document provided by Royal Caribbean Group (or Hiring Partner) that states the date you are scheduled to join our team, the vessel you are joining, and the position for which you have been hired. You must have this document available at all times when traveling to join the ship.

Where do I get the pre-employment medical (PEME)? All Royal Caribbean Group’s brands’ crew members are required to complete an extensive pre-employment medical examination prior to joining the ship. In most cases, the examination is at the employees’ expense. The examination should be conducted through one of RCG’s approved medical facilities. Once the medical examination is complete and approved by our corporate medical department, employees will be cleared to travel. This medical documentation will then be valid for two years. Your recruiter or hiring partner will discuss this with you in more detail.

Do I have to wear a uniform? As a team, we like to project a consistent and professional image; therefore, we have carefully chosen a uniform for most positions. Uniforms will be provided onboard and there are some uniform items that are considered personal items crew are required to pay for. Your recruiter or hiring partner will discuss this with you in more detail.

Does Royal Caribbean Group hire couples? Royal Caribbean Group brands welcome couples onboard. However, each applicant is assessed individually based on their qualifications, and although every effort is made to accommodate couples to be assigned to the same ship, we cannot guarantee that they will be assigned to the same ship, since business needs take precedence.

Is medical attention available to employees? Yes, of course! Our crew’s safety and wellbeing is our highest priority. Should employees become ill while onboard, each ship has a team of dedicated medical professionals that will provide assistance at no cost to the crew member. However, while the medical team is ready to assist in any urgent situation, they shouldn’t be considered your primary medical care provider. It is important to join the ship healthy and ready to work. If you have any prescriptions that have been cleared as part of your pre-employment medical exam, those should be filled for the duration of your assignment before you join.

Are crew members entitled to discounts for their families? As part of Royal Caribbean Group, we offer different discount programs for our employees and their families. Depending on your position, you may have to wait for some time before qualifying for this benefit.

Do I have safety responsibilities? In the unlikely case of an emergency, we need to be ready. Therefore, all crew members must attend emergency training, and are required to participate in boat drills. Every crew member is assigned an emergency duty which they will be trained on and practice during regular boat drills.

Will I always work on the same ship? Assignments are based on many factors, and priority is understandably given to business need. Generally, there are periods where an individual is assigned to a particular ship, in order to provide an opportunity for the teams to build relationships and consistency. However, as with every aspect of shipboard life, flexibility is key. You might be transferred to another ship as necessary.

Can I socialize in Guest Areas? Access to guest areas will depend on your position. Your scheduler or recruiter can advise you what your onboard privileges would be.

How long would I be onboard before going back home? A contract ranges anywhere from three to approximately eight months, depending on the position. Most senior management roles have 4-month contracts while most of the rest of the positions have 6-8 month contracts. Employees live onboard for the total length of their contracts.

Do I get time off while onboard? Because ships have guests onboard 7 days a week, you may not get a 24-hour period off; however, you will still have time to rest, visit the ports, and participate in fun events.

What happens if I have a family emergency? In case of family emergencies , your HR manager will work closely with you to make necessary arrangements.

To which ship would I be assigned? Once you have been offered a position, you will be advised which ship you will be joining. Please keep in mind that assignments are provided based on business needs, therefore, you could join any of our beautiful Royal Caribbean Group ships!

How do I get to the ship? Depending on your location and the ship’s location, you may fly to the nearest airport. In some cases, this will be at the crew members’ expense for the first contract. The company covers the cost of repatriation after your contract is concluded as long as you satisfy the basic requirements of your assignment.

If specific tools are required to perform my job, do I need to bring them? No, all the tools you need to perform your job will be provided by the company. We know there’s a lot to consider. As you go through the application process, our recruiters and hiring partners will be glad to provide guidance, and more relevant details to answer any additional questions about shipboard life.

Requirements to work onboard

What are the requirements to work onboard Royal Caribbean ships? Regardless of the position for which you are applying, to qualify for shipboard employment you must have a valid passport, and the ability to:

  • Obtain a C1-D visa (unless you are Canadian or a US citizen or resident).
  • Pass RCG’s pre-employment medical examination.
  • Obtain relevant itinerary-driven visas (i.e. Schengen).
  • Present the proper qualifications/certifications required, based on your role.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Obtain flu vaccines and negative COVID-19 tests.

What languages are required to work onboard? English is the official language onboard our vessels, therefore, all employees must be able to read, write and speak English. Some positions have specific language requirements, but (in general) English is sufficient. However, because of our international guests and exciting itineraries, it is helpful if you speak additional languages, including (but certainly not limited to): Italian, German, French, and Spanish. Additional language skills are always a plus!

Does Royal Caribbean Group have a drug policy? Royal Caribbean Group is a drug-free company, and we have a zero tolerance policy for consumption or possession of illegal substances. Because we operate in many jurisdictions around the world, even if a substance is legal in one location it may not be legal elsewhere, therefore you should refer to company policies for a list of prohibited items.

Are employees allowed to smoke? When off duty, employees are allowed to smoke in the designated smoking areas. Smoking in crew cabins is prohibited.

What is a C1-D visa? A C1-D visa is a non-immigrant visa issued by US embassies around the world. This visa allows crew members to transit through US ports. If offered a position, Royal Caribbean Group will provide a letter to support your application. This visa is not required for Canadians or US citizens or residents.

What is a Schengen visa? Some nationalities are required to obtain this visa in order to enter countries that are part of the Schengen territory, in Europe. Your Hiring partner or HR representative can help you determine if you need to apply for a Schengen visa.

What should I pack? Since cabin space is very limited, it is recommended that employees bring only what is needed. Some suggestions would be:

  • Clothing: Jeans/long pants, sweater, shirts, belt(s), shorts and T-shirts, appropriate shoes, tennis and/or beach shoes, and swimsuit. We also recommend bringing one pair of black pants, one one shirt and a pair of comfortable black shoes.
  • Toiletries: Deodorant, razors, brush/comb, toothbrush/paste, shampoo, shaving cream, sunblock.
  • Other: Medication, beach towel, laptop, smart phone and hair dryer.

Are any items prohibited? Objects that may represent a hazard are prohibited. Examples include weapons, clothing irons, hot plates, candles, incense, and any other items that may create a fire hazard, or are deemed unsafe by shipboard security. Curling irons, flat irons, and hair dryers are allowed.

Do Royal Caribbean Group brands provide accommodations while I am onboard? Forget about paying rent! Our brands provide accommodations for all shipboard employees. Depending on your position you may share your cabin with a fellow crew member. Because space is limited onboard, cabins and bathrooms are relatively small compared to land-based accommodations, but don’t worry there are plenty amenities for you to enjoy when you are off duty.

What if I don’t get along with my roommate? Working onboard is a great opportunity not only to grow professionally, but also to make friends from all over the world. While different cultures act differently and sometimes it takes time to adjust, we believe that being open and respectful always leads to good relationships. Communication is usually the key to get along with your roommate; however, if for some reason you don’t feel comfortable you can check with supervisor who will try to facilitate a cabin switch.

Where will I have my meals? Our chefs create for our crew a variety of dishes from different parts of the world, providing options for a healthy and well-balanced diet. All meals are served in crew-allocated dining areas. We also frequently send out surveys asking for feedback on living onboard – if you’d like to request a certain meal, just ask!

Do you have laundry facilities for employees? Yes, there are laundry facilities available for the crew.

What type of electrical system will be in my cabin? Cabins offer US 110V and 220V outlets.

Do employees have internet access? Yes, each ship has an internet café that is available to employees, with several computers that have internet access (fees apply). For those who would like to bring their own laptop, wifi is available (fees apply). Text messaging is free within WhatsApp.

How do I call home? You can purchase minutes to use for long-distance calls from the ship. Be sure to download WhatsApp on your smartphone device. You can utilize free WhatsApp text messaging to family members while onboard. You may also purchase a wifi package for calls and video streaming.

Is to possible to receive mail while onboard? Yes! There is a central location where all mail is received and then distributed to the ships. Your shipboard HR team will be able to provide more details.

Would my cell phone work onboard? Cell phone service is available onboard; however, international roaming rates do apply. You may want to check the rates with your provider before using your cell phone.

Would I be able to buy some necessities (i.e. toiletries) onboard? The Crew Shop is a general store for crew on every ship. It sells all sorts of things you might want during a contract and charges low prices too.

Can I make purchases in the Gift Shop? The gift shop is available to crew members during crew sale events. Shipboard employees are entitled to a 20% discount (some items excluded).

Are there places to exercise? Yes! Each ship is equipped with a crew gym. We encourage you to take advantage of it and work out at your leisure.

Are there places to socialize with my teammates? Yes, there are different types of areas where you can socialize with your colleagues, including the crew bar, and other lounges and common crew areas.

Is there a hair salon onboard? Each ship features a spa and hair salon onboard, and treatments are offered at a discounted price to crewmembers. Appointments are necessary and, as expected, guests have priority. We also have a crew barber shop available. Please inquire with your shipboard HR team.

How do I get paid while onboard? Employees are paid in U.S. dollars twice a month to a pre-paid Mastercard operated by North Line.

How do I send my money home? You may wire transfer money to your land-based bank account from your pay card up to certain limits. Please note that there may be a nominal fee from the receiving banks.

Are taxes deducted? For U.S. citizens and residents, federal taxes are automatically deducted from pay. All other employees are responsible for filing and declaring their own taxes upon returning to their home country.

Should I bring cash with me? We suggest you bring at least $200-300 cash in U.S. dollars and/or a major credit card, to cover out-of-pocket expenses during travel and before receiving your first pay.

PORT QUESTIONS

Do I get to visit the ports? Definitely! When you are not on duty, you are welcome to explore the amazing destinations we visit. Just make sure you are back on time!

Can I participate in Shore Excursions? As a service to our guests, we offer organized tours when visiting the ports. If space is available, employees are welcome to enjoy the excursions at a discounted price.

Are there any activities to enjoy during my time off? At Royal Caribbean Group we believe in creating a fun work environment. We have a crew activities team onboard each ship in charge of hosting different events for our crew. From parties to sport tournaments, all activities are designed for our crew to enjoy life onboard.

Can family and friends come and visit me for the day? Employees can apply for a one-day visitors’ pass for family and friends; this must be requested with advanced notice. Please check with your supervisor for more details.

Royal Caribbean Group's Celebrity Cruises has had no problem rehiring crew members despite the general hospitality and leisure industry's acute staffing shortages, Brian Abel, the cruise line's senior vice president of hotel operations, told Insider in an interview.

Throughout 2021, the " great resignation " and difficulties rehiring workers have afflicted adjacent industries like hotels , restaurants , and airlines . But according to Abel, Celebrity Cruises has been unaffected by these widespread staffing difficulties, and instead found that the majority of its crew members wanted to return to the company.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Celebrity tried to keep their workers "engaged" through a series of webinars and newsletters. And in Q1, the company sent a survey to its crew asking if they were "ready to come back." According to Abel, 98% of staff said they were, and of those respondents, another 98% said they would be willing to be vaccinated. 

Abel attributes Celebrity's ability to retain workers to the company's "great culture" and a lack of other hospitality jobs that were available during the COVID-19 pandemic, which could have poached its crew members. 

"They work here because they can't find a comparable job in their home country making the same type of salary," he said, noting that the company's crew comes from over 60 countries. "They're back here working again, doing what they love, and they're vaccinated. And a lot of [their home] countries are still having challenges."

However, like other cruise lines , Celebrity has faced difficulties related to the logistics of bringing its international crew back.

"The only challenge [has been] crew movement," Abel said. "Getting them back to dealing with all the different types of protocols and regulations from different countries. But the crews' willingness to come back was not an issue.."

Do I need a passport to cruise?

Everyone will need to present an accepted form of identification to board the ship. We strongly recommend that all guests present a passport as their form of ID on boarding day, and for some guests a passport is required.

The passport must be valid for six months after the day your cruise ends. The name on your passport should match the name on your reservation.

While some other forms of ID may be accepted for your cruise, a passport is the very best option and here’s why:

  • A passport is the hassle-free, gold standard for traveling between countries.
  • Boarding and disembarking through customs with a passport is usually faster than other types of ID documents.
  • If you have an issue while exploring a foreign port (such as missing the ship), it’s best to have a passport with you.

Guests who do not bring required documents may be denied boarding.

Can I cruise with a birth certificate as my identification? What if I don’t have a passport?

Everyone will need to present an accepted form of identification to board the ship. We strongly recommend that all guests present a passport as their form of ID on boarding day.

U.S Citizens

Technically, yes – U.S. citizens can present a state-certified birth certificate and government-issued photo ID to sail on most cruises departing from the U.S.  But a passport is the more efficient, secure option.

Should you decide to present your birth certificate on boarding day, please keep these guidelines in mind:

  • Most, but not all, sailings from the U.S. will accept a birth certificate. Learn if your sailing does at our Travel Documents Hub.
  • It must be a state-certified birth certificate issued by the government. No “baby feet” certificates, no hospital birth certificates and no baptismal papers.
  • You must present the original copy, no photo copies.
  • You must also show a valid government issued photo ID, like a driver’s license.
  • Guests 15 and under do not need to show to show an ID, just the birth certificate.
  • The name across all docs, and the reservation, must match.

Puerto Rican birth certificates issued prior to July 1, 2010 are not valid. The government of Puerto Rico has partnered with VitalChek.com to issue new birth certificates.

Canadian Citizen

Similarly, Canadian citizens age 14 and under may present an original Canadian-issued birth certificate.

  • Birth certificates are accepted as identification only for Canadian citizens age 14 and under. The certificate must be an original Canadian-issued birth certificate.
  • No supplemental document required unless minor is traveling with relatives or friends, then a notarized Travel Consent Form is required. 

What if the name on my identification does not match my reservation due to a legal name change, married name, or other reason?

Everyone will need to present an accepted form of identification to board the ship.

It’s important that the name on your reservation appears exactly as it does on the government issued identification document(s) that you use to board the ship.

If your name has changed since your document was issued, you will either need to update the name on that document, or bring an additional, official supporting document to help explain why the name is different. This can include one of the following:

  • State, county or province-issued marriage license
  • Divorce decree
  • Government-issued name change document
  • Official adoption papers

U.S. citizens who are able to present a birth certificate plus a government ID for their itinerary, should keep in mind that the name on BOTH of these documents must match each other, and match the reservation. If they don’t, you’ll need a supporting document as listed above.

Do I need any visas to cruise to and from other countries?

Based on your nationality, you may require an entry visa to board your cruise or enter certain countries your cruise visits. It is the guests' responsibility to identify and to obtain all the necessary visas before commencing their cruise. 

Guests of all Nationalities should contact the Embassy (Consular Services) of each country on your cruise for specific visa requirements, information, forms and fees for your nationality. Guests may then contact a company that assists with securing and processing visas for travelers.

What identification does a child need to cruise? What if I am traveling with a minor that is not my own child? What if my last name does not match my child’s?

Are you traveling with a grandchild, niece, nephew, or other child that you are not the guardian of? When a minor (age 17 and under) travels without their legal guardian, an accompanying adult must present a notarized form signed by the child’s guardian. This ensures the child has the guardian’s consent to leave the country and participate in release-form activities onboard.

Domestic Sailings

What sailings are considered Domestic?

Domestic sailings are all sailings originating and ending in ports located in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, including Panama Canal sailings. Required travel documents for Domestic Sailings > Passport Requirements A valid passport is a requirement for air travel to/from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. Valid passport (unless otherwise noted below) or other Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) compliant document will be accepted for entry or re-entry into the United States. The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) requires all travelers to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda to present a valid passport or other approved document that establishes the bearer's identity and citizenship in order to enter or reenter the United States.

What documents do I need when boarding a ship in the U.S. that travels out of the U.S?

Passport Requirements

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) requires all travelers to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda to present a valid passport or other approved document that establishes the bearer's identity and citizenship in order to enter or reenter the United States.

U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end at the same port in the U.S.) will be able to enter or depart the country with proof of citizenship, such as a government-issued birth certificate and laminated government issued picture ID, denoting photo, name and date of birth. A U.S. citizen under the age of 16 will be able to present either an original or notarized or certified copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issues by DOS, or Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Note: Baptismal papers and hospital certificates of birth are not acceptable. Voter registration cards or Social Security cards are not considered proof of citizenship.

International Air Travel to a Domestic Sailing

Valid passports are required for all sailings and travellers, including children.

Guests sailing on itineraries with ports in the European Union (EU) only must possess passports that are valid for at least three (3) months following the return date.

For all other itineraries visiting ports outside the EU, passports must be valid for at least six (6) months following the return date.

Guests who need to fly to the United States before their cruise ends for extenuating or emergency circumstances will likely experience significant delays and complications related to booking airline tickets and entering the United States if they do not have a valid U.S. passport with them.

Canadian Landed Immigrants

All Canadian Landed Immigrants (inclusive of those who are citizens of the British Commonwealth countries) who reside in Canada must have valid passports and US visas. Also required is the original copy of your Permanent Resident Card (PR Card), formally the IMM 1000, or with respect to any country on the itinerary any other travel documentation required because of alien status.

Sea Travel (for U.S. and Canadian citizens only)

For voyages that begin and end in the same U.S. Port, U.S. citizens may travel with both a Government-issued birth certificate** and Government-issued picture ID card, such as a driver's license.

**A 'birth certificate' is issued by a government agency (state, county, city, etc.). This document (with seal and signature) is legal proof of citizenship that can be used by U.S. citizens for certain international travel. A 'birth notice' is issued by a hospital or other type of medical facility but it is not an approved travel document. It is a courtesy document that merely indicates where a birth occurred. It has no legal status and cannot be used to prove citizenship for international travel purposes.

Sea Travel (Non U.S. Citizens)

You will need a valid passport and, in some cases, a visa. If you live in the U.S., you will also need the original copy of your Alien Registration Card (ARC or ""Green Card"") and any other documentation the countries on your itinerary require due to your alien status.

Do I need to bring my green card when sailing domestically?

Alien Registration Card (Green Card)

U.S. lawful permanent residents will continue to be able to use their Alien Registration Card (ARC) issued by the Department of Homeland Security or other valid evidence of permanent residence status to apply for entry to United States.

Card renewal is an important matter. ARC holders (United States permanent residents) with expired cards may be considered ""out of status"" and may be denied entry/reentry into the United States. If your ARC was issued over 10 years ago, you should check the expiration date printed on the front of the card. If your card is expired, or it is about to expire, you should renew your card before you sail.

If you are holding an old edition ARC WITHOUT an expiration date, you will not be detained from entering the United States, but U.S. Customs and Border Protection highly suggests that you apply for a new card before you sail.

What Documents or Forms Do I Need for Domestic Sailings?

Please contact the Embassy (Consular Services) of each country on your sailing itinerary or the visa service of your choice for specific visa requirements, information, forms and fees for your nationality. The U.S. has a Visa Waiver Program (VPW) that This is a pre-travel authorization program for U.S. bound travelers from Visa Waiver Countries. This is a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) program. The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is mandatory, and all travelers, regardless of age, from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries will be required to complete an online application similar to the I-94W and obtain an ESTA approval prior to boarding a carrier by air or sea to the United States under the VWP. For complete details, please refer to the U.S Department of State website.

Guests who apply electronically will be required to present their ESTA authorization approval receipt in order to board the vessel on applicable voyages.

Travelers from the VWP countries seeking to enter the United States will also be required to have in their possession a machine-readable passport.

International Sailings

What sailings are considered International?

International Sailings are sailings other than those originating and ending in ports located in the U.S., Canada and Mexico including Panama Canal sailings. These are itineraries in Europe, South America, Asia and Australia/New Zealand including re-positioning sailings originating or ending in their ports.

Do I need to provide proof of inoculation to sail internationally?

Inoculation/Health

As detailed in our brochure, all guests must ensure that they are medically and physically fit for travel. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) provide guidelines as to which vaccinations are required in each country. In many cases inoculations are recommended but in some circumstances they are required. We recommend that you check with your health care professional or a Travel Medicine Specialist certified by the WHO for guidance. What Documents or Forms Do I Need for International Sailings?

A valid passport is required for travel. Ensure there are sufficient blank visa pages within the passport for visa stamps.

For your protection, we require that your passport expiration date not occur within six (6) months of the sailing termination date.

U.S. citizens carrying an Official (maroon cover) passport must also be in possession of a valid Diplomatic or personal (blue or green cover) passport to allow ship embarkation.

In addition to the Passport and Visa requirements indicated on this page, guests are asked to bring with them a second official form of identification in the way of a Passport Card (US), a laminated driver's license or identification card issued by a federal, state, provincial, country, territory or municipal authority.

Depending on your itinerary, the ship may collect your passport to speed up the clearance formalities at each port of call. We suggest you bring with you a few photocopies of your passport's personal page which includes the picture, and that you carry one of these photocopies with you each time you leave the ship.

It is your responsibility to identify and to obtain the necessary visas before beginning your cruise. Based on nationality, many countries still require an entry visa. Suggestions on where to get visa information:

In some ports where visas may be required and may be purchased in-transit, the ship personnel will assist each guest to secure a visa and charge the guests' onboard account a one-time nominal fee. These visa fees include a small processing charge by the local representative.

Canadian eTA

The Canadian government will require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for current visa-exempt nationals to enter the country by air. For more information and specific requirements please visit www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/eta-start.asp

United States ESTA

The United States government requires an Electronic System for Travel Authorization document (ESTA) for all citizens who are not part of the Visa Waver Program (VWP). This includes travelers who do not require a visa to enter the United States, but are not citizens of the United States, Canada or Bermuda. Celebrity Cruises® may deny boarding to affected guests who are unable to provide a valid ESTA during ship check-in formalities. What Documents Do I Need To Sail on a Galapagos Sailing?

Each guest is required by Ecuadorian law to have a valid passport with at least six months validity from the departure date from Ecuador. Guests who do not possess the proper documentation may be prevented from boarding their flight or ship, or from debarking or entering a country, and may be subject to fines.

Also, it is important that the name on the reservation be exactly as it is stated on the passport or other official citizenship document. If the guest’s name has changed since the document was issued (i.e. marriage/divorce), it is required that the document be updated with the new name, or provide official supporting document(s) of the name change. Otherwise, it may result in delay or possible denial of boarding.

Travel Documentation for Minors

What do I need to do if I’m traveling with a minor and I am not their parent or legal guardian?

Adults who are not the parent or legal guardian of any minor child traveling with them are required to present the child's valid passport and visa (if required) or the child's government-issued birth certificate (original, a notarized copy or a certified copy) and an original notarized letter signed by at least one of the child's parents. The notarized letter from the child's parent must authorize the traveling adult to take the child on the specific cruise and must authorize the traveling adult to supervise the child and permit any medical treatment that must be administered to the child. If a non-parent adult is a legal guardian, the adult must present a certified Certificate of Guardianship with respect to the child.

Infants sailing on a cruise must be at least 6 months old as of the first day of the cruise and/or Cruisetour. HOWEVER: For transatlantic, transpacific, Hawaii, select South American and other selected cruises and/or Cruisetours, the infant must be at least 12 months old as of the first day of the cruise/Cruisetour. For the purposes of this policy, any cruise that has 3 or more consecutive days at sea will require infants to be at least 12 months old on the first day of the cruise/Cruisetour.

What documentation do I need when traveling with a child or as a legal gaurdian?

Family Legal Documents

Should the last names of the parent and minor child traveling with them differ, the parent is required to present the child's valid passport and visa (if required) and the child's birth certificate (original, a notarized copy or a certified copy). The name of the parent(s) and the child must be linked through legal documentation.

Adults who are not the parent or Legal Guardian of any minor child traveling with them are required to present the child's valid passport and visa or the child's birth certificate (original, a notarized copy or a certified copy) and an original notarized letter signed by at least one of the child's parents. The notarized letter from the child's parent must authorize the traveling adult to take the child on the specific cruise, must authorize guardian to sign legal documentation/waivers for participation in any activities requiring them and must authorize the traveling adult to supervise the child and permit any medical treatment that must be administered to the child. If a non-parent adult is a Legal Guardian, the adult must present a certified certificate of Guardianship with respect to the child.

Whatever the itinerary, destination, or occasion—when you pack, think casual chic.

DURING THE DAY

For warmer climates, pack swimsuits and cover-ups, walking shorts and shirts that protect from the sun, lightweight slacks, skirts or sundress, and a light sweater or jacket. Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are always encouraged.

For cooler climates, bring clothing with long sleeves, sweaters, and pants that can be layered. In areas prone to snow or rain, waterproof jackets, hats, gloves, and umbrellas are recommended. 

Around the globe, consider appropriate shoes and gear for the excursions you have planned and the terrain you’ll encounter. For instance, you may pack water shoes if hiking a waterfall or a headscarf or conservative dress for visiting museums, mosques, temples, and churches. 

Throughout the ship, casual resort wear, sundresses, shorts, polos, or button-downs are appropriate, paired with sandals, low heels, and loafers. Make sure you bring active wear and sneakers if you plan to hit the gym!

Poolside, bathing suits with coverups, T-shirts, tanks, hats, and sunglasses are welcomed. 

In main and specialty dining, we ask guests to refrain from wearing swimsuits, see-through coverups or robes, bare feet, tank tops, T-shirts, and baseball caps. 

SMART CASUAL 

Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the Celebrity Theatre. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jean, and stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip flops are not considered Smart Casual. 

EVENING CHIC

Each itinerary features one to two “formal” nights we call Evening Chic. Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a cocktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jean, an elegant dress top or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos. The Daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. If you do not wish to participate in Evening Chic, Smart Casual attire is acceptable for dining and theater.

CARRY-ON LUGGAGE

Keep anything you might need for boarding day handy or stash it in your carry-on. That includes travel documents, medications, toiletries, and maybe a swimsuit and change of clothes. Your checked baggage should be delivered to your stateroom within a few hours of setting sail if tagged properly.

How much luggage can a guest bring onboard?

There is no limit or restrcition, however we recommend each guest carry a reasonable amount of personal property and limit the number of pieces they bring. 

Can I bring my flat iron or curling iron with me onboard?

While most potentially flammable high-wattage items are strictly prohibited, hair curling irons, straightening irons, and hair dryers are permitted.

Are there blowdryers available for use onboard?

Yes, each stateroom will have a hair dryer provided for use onboard.

Can I bring a clothes steamer or iron onboard?

Travel Steamers, clothing irons and potentially flammable high-wattage items are strictly prohibited. If you'd like to have clothes pressed while onboard, laundry service is available. Ask your stateroom attendant of Guest Services team onboard for pricing and pick-up/delivery times.

What in-room toiletries are provided?

Toiletries vary by stateroom category, however each room will be equipped with shampoo, conditioner, lotion and soap. 

Do you provide bathrobes to use onboard?

All staterooms on all Celebrity vessels have two (2) robes for the guests to use while onboard the vessel. If guests would like to purchase the robes while onboard, they can do so through the Guest Relations Desk. Bathrobes are "one size" fits all (size 2XL upon request).

Are there beach towels for use onboard at the pool or during shore excursions?

There are two (2) types of towels onboard for swimming. Gray pool towels are available on the pool decks for pool deck usage. Beige beach towels are provided in the stateroom for guests on the night before a beach day for the guests to use while in port.

Weapons, illegal drugs & Substances (including marijuana, cannabis, extracts of THC and/or CBD), and other items that could interfere with the safe operation of the ship or the safe and secure environment of our guests and crew are prohibited. The United States Transportation Security Administration also recommends that you do not pack fragile or expensive items (such as jewelry) in checked luggage.

The following are examples of items that guests are not allowed to bring onboard. These and other similar items will be confiscated upon being found. Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, flammable liquids, explosives, and dangerous chemicals will not be returned.

**Aerial Drones: guests are welcome to bring drones on their cruise for use on land only and outside of the port area. Drones are not to be operated onboard the ship at any time. Different countries may have different rules. Guests assume full responsibility for understanding all local authority rules related to drone usage and for obtaining ay required permissions for drone operations. Any liability, including environmental damage from drone usage is the guest’s responsibility. Celebrity Cruises® assumes no liability for guests drones that may be confiscated by local authorities for violating local laws or for any accident or injury resulting from a guest drone flight. While onboard, drones must be stored safely in the stateroom. Drones used on the ship will be confiscated till the end of the cruise. A Guest Conduct Policy warning will be issued and guests may be subject to disembarkation at their own expense for onboard drone usage.

***Items that generate heat or produce an open flame are strictly prohibited. This includes heating pads, clothing irons, hotplates, candles, incense and any other item that may create a fire hazard. NOTE: The only exception to this policy are curling irons,  hair straighteners and personal fans that are ""certified"" low wattage. Matches and normal lighteners are allowed onboard. However ""torch lighters"" and novelty lighters that look like guns are not allowed onboard. Torch lighters emit a powerful concentrated flame, and therefore are prohibited.

****Alcoholic beverages that are purchased in ports-of-call or from shops onboard will be stored by the ship and delivered to you on the last day of the sailing. Alcoholic beverages seized on embarkation day will not be returned.

Do you require proof of disability to reserve an accessible stateroom?

We don’t require proof of disability such as medical certificates or disability placards. However, during the booking process, we will ask guests to attest to their need for the accessible stateroom.

What if I need to eat at a certain dining time due to my diet and/or medication?

If you are not able to confirm your desired dining time, contact our Dining team at [email protected] within 50 days prior to sailing. 

If your desired dining time is closed, you have several options:

1. Request a new dining time with our headwaiter upon boarding the ship.

2. Request Celebrity Select Anytime and reserve a specific dining time every day.

3. Take advantage of our Oceanview Café or specialty restaurants on board.

Are There Accommodations For Persons With Special Medical Needs On Board Galapagos Ships And Throughout The Galapagos Experience?

Please note the ability to accommodate guests with special needs aboard the vessels in the Galapagos Islands is limited. The ships do not have elevators or accessible staterooms. Also, there is very little wheelchair accessibility on the Galapagos Islands, and service animals are not permitted in the Galapagos National Park. During a Galapagos journey, guests will need to ascend or descend steps into a motor coach, use stairs, walk and/or climb over uneven ground for extended distances and get on and off inflatable Zodiac tenders. In addition, the land portion of these vacations, including Quito and Galapagos in Ecuador, as well as Lima, Cuzco and Machu Picchu in Peru are not suited to persons who are wheelchair users. Celebrity welcomes guests with disabilities and special needs, and we will provide reasonable and appropriate assistance. Guests requiring assistance should consider their specific needs when making a Galapagos vacation decision. While we do not require information about the extent of your specific situation, the more information you can share with us about your specific needs, the better we are able to assist you. We encourage you to notify us of your needs at time of booking but no later than 30 days prior to sailing.

Can I travel alone?

We do not require guests with disabilities to travel with another person as a condition for traveling on our ships. However, our personnel are not required to perform personal tasks (e.g. assisting with eating, dressing, toileting or lifting) ,guests requiring assistance with these functions should consider these needs when making a booking. If there is a question about the guest’s fitness to travel without personal assistance, this must be discussed with our Access Department.

What kind of assistance do you provide?

We provide boarding and departure assistance with wheelchairs to guests with mobility disabilities. We also provide assistance to guests who are blind. Request assistance once you arrive at the pier or contact us prior to your cruise so we may prioritize your assistance. During peak times, there may be a wait for assistance. Our crew members are not permitted to lift our guests.

Do you provide priority boarding?

Guests with mobility disabilities are offered quicker processing at the pier. If boarding has not begun, we will offer priority boarding.

Do you offer accessible transfers?

If requested in advance, we can arrange for accessible transportation to transfer guests between the airport and the pier. This service is offered at no extra charge to guests who have purchased transfers. Please note that accessible transportation may be limited or not available outside the United States.

Do you provide tactile interpreters for the hearing impared?

Yes, we provide tactile interpreters on cruises to/from United States and Canada only, however support service provider (SSP) services are not provided. Please notify us at least 60 days prior to sailing. Do you provide CART? Yes, we provide real-time captioning (CART) services on cruises to/from the U.S. and Canada only. Please notify us at least 60 days prior to sailing.

Do you provide braille formatted material?

No, however we provide qualified readers on board our ships for guests who are blind or have low vision.

Can I request a Qualified Reader staff member?

Select crewmembers have been trained as qualified readers to read written material such as the daily Cruise Today and shore excursions information. Waiters will also read dining menus upon request. Please request a qualified reader at Guest Relations upon boarding.

Assisted Devices & Service Animals

Do you have wheelchairs for use onboard?

Yes we do. We have collapsible wheelchairs for our guests to use free of charge onboard each of our ships. They are on a first come, first serve basis and based on availability.

Does Celebrity Cruises offer scooters for rent onboard?

Unfortunately, we don't offer rental for scooters onboard, however, we do recommend vendors who rent wheelchairs and scooters to guests with disabilities and have security clearance to get on and off our ships. Please let us know if you have any further question.

Can I bring my own assistive devices with me?

Yes, you may bring and use wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walkers, canes and other assistive devices on board our ships. Due to safety reasons, Segways® may not be used on board.

Must I store my assistive device in my stateroom?

Yes, assistive devices including mobility scooters must be stored and recharged in your stateroom, so fire doors, corridors and elevator lobbies are kept clear for emergency evacuation.

Can my assistive device fit through the stateroom door?

If your assistive device is 23 inches or less, it will fit through a standard stateroom door. If your assistive device is 32 inches or less, it will fit through an accessible stateroom door.

Can I bring a CPAP or BIPAP machine?

Yes, please notify us at least 30 days prior to sailing if you will need distilled water and an extension cord.

Do you accept service dogs?

Yes, we accept service dogs. A service dog is defined as “any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability.” Guests are responsible for obtaining all required documentation for service dogs to depart the ship in ports of call. These documents must be carried on the ship, and a copy left with the Guest Relations desk once on board. Please note that additional screening may be conducted at the pier or on board. You may bring a reasonable quantity of dog food and bowls at no charge. If refrigerated space is needed, notify us at least 30 days prior to sailing.

Can I take my scooter on tours?

Not all excursions can accommodate a scooter. Therefore, guest(s) must provide the scooter dimensions (Length x Width x Height) and Weight. Please let us know if you have to remain seated on device to board vehicle. If you do, please also submit the Combined Height and Combined Weight.

How do I make sure my mobility equipment won’t be too big or too heavy for the tender?

In order to board most tenders safely, guests must be able to take steps and use a collapsible manual wheelchair. In addition, power wheelchairs and mobility scooters can not be taken on tenders unless roll-on capability is available. Inquire about tender roll-on capability at Guest Relations Desk while on board. Please note roll-on capability is not guaranteed. In some cases, tendering may preclude guests from going ashore.

How do I make sure my mobility equipment won’t be too big or too heavy for the excursion?

Upon booking an accessible tour, guests wishing to utilize a wheelchair (manual or electric) on this excursion must provide the total dimensions (Length x Width x Height) and Weight of the mobility equipment.

Providing the weight and measurements will help ensure that there will be no issues on the day of your tour.

Who can book accessible shore excursions?

The accessible shore excursions are accessible for all. This program is designed to provide memorable, enjoyable experiences for limited-mobility guests, seniors, and anyone who enjoys a slower pace.

How are the accessible shore excursions different from other regular shore excursions?

Our accessible tours are unique in that they offer:

•  Accessible restrooms with wide doors along the route

•  Professional and compassionate tour guides experienced in working with senior and disabled guests

How large are the groups for the accessible shore excursions?

The group size varies depending upon the tour(s) you choose, you can enjoy slow paced tours with 4-10 guests or large group excursions with up to 45 guests.

Tours are categorized as follows:

LEVEL 1:  Tours recommended for guests that are able to walk short distances, can navigate the steps of a motor coach, and/or travel with a standard size manual collapsible wheelchair or scooter, that can fit in the motor coach luggage compartment. This tour accommodates between 15 - 45 guests.

LEVEL 2:  Excursions designed for guests unable to negotiate motor coach steps or full-time wheelchair/scooter users. The vehicle used on this type of tour is adapted with an access ramp (or lift where available). In order to use the ramp and/or lift, guests are required to be seated on a wheelchair or scooter. Due to the vehicle type, this tour accommodates a limited number of mobility devices. This tour ranges between 4 - 12 guests.

What type of vehicles are used for the accessible shore excursions?

The accessible shore excursions use specialized vehicles equipped with either a ramp or lift for easy wheelchair access.

How can the guide assist me with my mobility needs?

The tour guides conducting these accessible tours have several years of experience in touring with limited mobility guests and their families. They are patient, compassionate and very knowledgeable. However, please note that guides are not permitted to push wheelchairs. Guests in wheelchairs must be able to self-propel or have a companion assist them.

In which destinations can I book accessible shore excursions?

Currently, the accessible shore excursion program is available throughout several Caribbean, Baltic and Mediterranean ports. 

***Other destinations, such as Alaska, offer a variety of tours where accessible transportation may be secured upon request basis only.

When should I book my accessible shore excursion?

We recommend booking in advance as the tours have limited seating. Please submit the completed Accessible Shore Excursions Form no later than 10 business days prior to the start of your cruise. We will advise you of availability and book the tours for you. Written confirmation will follow via email.

Do you offer accessible Cruisetours in Alaska?

Yes, accessibility extends to the land portion of our Alaska Cruisetour packages. One-third of our motorcoaches are wheelchair lift-equipped, and Wilderness Express® railcars are equipped with dome-level wheelchair seating, allowing travelers with disabilities to access both levels.

What about other Cruisetours?

Most non-U.S. Cruisetours are not wheelchair accessible. In most cases we are unable to accommodate full-time wheelchair users. If guests are able to take steps to get into motorcoaches and can maneuver in a standard hotel room, they may be accommodated. Portions of these Cruisetours may require extended periods of walking over uneven surfaces and/or steep terrain, as well as extended periods of standing and steps.

What if I have a accessibility-related concern onboard?

CROs (Complaint Resolution Order) are available to respond to disability related concerns. They are trained on applicable U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) disability regulations and our policies and procedures for guests with disabilities. Feel free to request a CRO at our pier check-in counters at all U.S. ports of departure or at the Guest Relations desk onboard our ships.

The main concept of Celebrity Cruises is to offer almost deluxe cruises at more affordable prices (something impossible at first sight), but the company has turned this concept into winning formula throughout the past seven-eight years. The cruise line introduced a new generation of cruise ships, representing classic cruising, updated for contemporary life style. Royal Caribbean International acquired Celebrity Cruises in 1997, but Celebrity Cruises continues to operate as a separate brand. The cruise line introduced a new generation of cruise ships, representing classic cruising, updated for contemporary life style. Celebrity Cruises was the brainchild of John Chandris of the renowned Greek shipping family, who created the cruise line in 1989, promising he would "exceed expectations." He accomplished his goal by offering much higher standards of food and service than cruisers were accustomed to in a mid-price cruise experience. In addition to the smaller Horizon and Zenith ships, Chandris ordered three new stunning cruise ships in the mid 1990's, Celebrity Century, Celebrity Galaxy and Celebrity Mercury. They were the first mid-price cruise ships to boast suites with butlers, the largest spas at sea, an extensive collection of private art, large staterooms in all categories and sophisticated touches such as a piano lounge, champagne and martini bars.

Acquired by Royal Caribbean International in 1997, Celebrity Cruises has retained its own identity, with food and service maintained at high levels. Celebrity Cruises has launched Celebrity Constellation, along with her sister-ships Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Infinity, followed by a larger quintet, the Solstice class - Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Equinox, Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection. The latter entered service in 2019. The goal is ambitious: the company is introducing a series of enhancements that it hopes will position Celebrity Cruises as a legitimate Crystal Cruises competitor, albeit with a younger passenger demographic.

Celebrity Cruises, with the launch in 2004 of its Xpedition sub-brand, is also moving into an intriguing new direction. Aiming to offer its upmarket, active passenger base a new option, the cruise line is featuring more unusual cruise experiences. At this point, the major thrust focuses on the Galapagos, where Celebrity has become the only big ship cruise line to offer year-round sailings. But wait: you won't find Millennium or Galaxy (or even Horizon or Zenith) trawling these small ship waters. Instead, the company has acquired the former Sun Bay I, a 2,329-ton 98-passenger cruise ship, and transformed it into Celebrity Xpedition. The aim? To combine the line's big stylishness with more adventure-oriented destinations. The company is planning to expand the concept to include cruises to Antarctica, the Arctic and Alaska via a former Soviet icebreaker it will charter from Quark Expeditions, an adventure cruise specialist.

In 2016 Celebrity Cruises acquired the Galapagos Islands tour operator Ocean Adventures and its two ships, the 48-guest M/V Eclipse and the 16-guest catamaran M/C Athala II. The move expands Celebrity's guest capacity in the Galapagos by 65 percent. In 2019 Celebrity Cruises introduced the most luxurius ship ever to sail in the Galapagos - the amazing mega yacht Celebrity Flora, built in the shipyard De Hoop BV (Lobith, Holland).

In 2014, Celebrity Cruises signed of a letter of intent with STX shipyard in France for a new class of vessels - the Edge Class. The first ship Celebrity Edge was christened on December 04, 2018 by the Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai. The second Edge class vessel - Celebrity Apex debuted in 2020
