TRANSFER/TRANSIT PASSENGERS

We have brought together all necessary information regarding transfer/transit procedures for passengers with a transit stop in their travel. We recommend that passengers traveling with Turkish Airlines read all details concerning transfer/transit procedures before their travel.

Who is a transfer/transit passenger?

Passengers with a confirmed flight ticket and who have a transit stop of less than 24 hours at any point between the departure airport and the arrival airport, and who continue their travel with the same or different airline company are referred to as transfer passengers.

Including in the transfer category, our Economy Class passengers making transit stops over 12 hours and our Business Class passengers making transit stops over 9 hours are entitled to benefit from hotel and catering services we procure through our contracted providers

This service is not provided if the ticketed passengers have a shorter connecting flight. The obligations required to enter the country (visa, passport, etc.) are the responsibility of the passenger. Please visit the hotel service page for more detailed information.

• When disembarking from aircraft, take your cabin baggage only and continue to international terminal. 
• If you do not have a boarding pass, go to the counter of the airline to get your boarding pass. If you have a boarding pass, you can directly go to the passport control point.

Transport Fares Istanbul: A Comprehensive Guide

This comprehensive guide on Istanbul's public transportation fares provides insights into the cost structures across various transit modes, including city buses, metros, trams, funiculars, and ferries.

Basic  Istanbul  public transit fares are as follows.

Please note: due to the fluctuating currency situation, we have chosen to list the costs in USD.  However, all payments would be made in Turkish lira.

City bus , Metro , tram, funicular , ferry : full-fare costs 0.50 cents; the first transfer to another vehicle: 0.35 cents. Children 6 years and older must pay a fare; those younger than six years who do not occupy a seat may travel without a ticket. 

For discounted student fares, you must have a Student Istanbulkart, and the first ride costs US$0.25. In order to get a student card, students need to have a residency permit in Turkey.

These are the fares for most short rides on most means of transport (Metro, bus, tram, funicular, ferryboat). Longer or special journeys may require higher fares, especially Metrobus and Marmaray.

Also, you'll pay twice the full fare when you're crossing to Asia from Europe or the other way around by using the bridges.

Metrobus Fares 

There are some important points of information you should know about Metro buses. You can get a refund after you use the refund machine. In order to receive that, you should at least go to one more station. The refund time is 2 hours for Metrobus. This means within two hours, you can get your money back accordingly to the number of stops you traveled.

The transfer time is 2 hours if your card allows you to transfer. However, there’s no discount for transfers from other public transport vehicles to Metrobus but there is a discount for transfers from Metrobus to other public transport vehicles.

Transfer Fares 

Istanbulkart.

A plastic RFID chip card that you purchase, load money onto it, then use it to pay transit fares, the Istanbulkart is the only way to travel on public transit in Istanbul.

Currently on some buses, you can use a Visa credit card as well. However, you’ll probably also use the Metro or Metrobus, so it is better to get an Istanbulkart. Otherwise, you won’t be able to use transportation as easily. It is not possible to use tokens, cash payments, or credit card. When using public transportation in Istanbul, you can save money and time by using this rechargeable card.

Fare Pricing Information

You can buy disposable fare cards from  Biletmatik  machines. You can buy your card from these machines or you can top up your card. It is also possible to buy cards from some kiosks and markets. However, you can probably get the most suitable card from places called Istanbul Municipality Solution Center , which are located in central places such as Beşiktaş and Şişli.

You can use these tickets in every vehicle except the ferries going to Princess Islands. You need to use your Istanbulkart to visit the islands.

Where to Buy Tickets

Fare machines are located at major bus stops,  Metro  stations,  tram  stations,  ferry docks , etc. allowing you to buy fare cards, and reload credit onto your  Istanbulkart  with coins,  Turkish lira notes , or cards. However, it is essential to note that the vending machines mostly only accept cash and don’t give you a refund, so in this case cash is the preferred payment method to add credit.

Instructions are in  Turkish ,  English , and  German .

Remember, if the machine bears a sign saying  Arızalıdır  or Hizmet dışı , it's out of order.

Istanbulkart Application

You are recommended to download the Istanbulkart application to your phone. In this application, you can get a QR code that you can use in every transportation vehicle in Istanbul. You need to either scan the code or read your code to the card reader machine when you get into a vehicle. You can use it on buses, ferries, metros, etc. You can upload money online from your credit card. You’ll need an internet connection to use the application. There are many other discounts in different stores as you can see in the application if you download it.

You can also use your Istanbul kart and the Istanbulkart application when going to the Airports (Sabiha Gökçen Airport and Istanbul Airport) by using the metro line. However, if you’re using the buses called “Havaist or Havaş”, the driver might tell you to pay cash, so remember to get some cash with you. Also, in the minibusses called “ dolmuş ,” you can only pay in cash. There are some other buses called “ sarı dolmuş ”, which looks like a big taxi, and you can only pay in cash as well. Besides that, dolmuş and Havaist, you can only use transportation with Istanbulkart.

Public Transportation Fare Updates

The price information given above has been arranged in accordance with the public transport fare tariff valid since January 2nd, 2023. Note that it is no longer necessary to have a HES code to use public transportation, as was required during Covid restrictions.

Ford Pro Introduced New E-Transit Courier in İstanbul

The all-new, all-electric, and fully connected E-Transit Courier offers a much larger and more flexible payload, as well as unrivaled efficiency in its segment, with Ford Pro's connected services. E-Transit Courier to enter production later in 2024 at the Ford Otosan Craiova plant. Diesel- and petrol-engine models will be manufactured in Craiova in the third quarter of 2023. Ford Pro launched its all-electric new commercial vehicle E-Transit Courier developed by Ford Otosan at Ford Otosan's R&D Center in Istanbul.  The vehicle architecture of the E-Transit Courier was developed according to the needs and expectations determined by customer research and interviews and designed by Ford Otosan designers and engineers with the philosophy of "Design Thinking" to offer the most appropriate solutions to customers. Fully Integrated into Ford Pro's software and connected services platform to further boost productivity, the fully connected E-Transit Courier offers 25 percent more load volume than the outgoing model, plus enhanced load capability. “E-Transit Courier moves its segment up a level with uncompromised EV performance, higher load capacity, and fully connected support. Ford Pro’s long-standing market leadership gives us unrivaled insight into customers’ needs and means we can help them get big productivity from their compact vans with more connectivity and capability than ever before,” said Hans Schep, General Manager, Ford Pro, Europe. “With E-Transit Courier, the latest indicator of our engineering and design capabilities as well as our manufacturing power, we continue to expand our role in Ford's electrification journey.  We are extremely proud to have designed the new Courier, which we will bring to our customers with both electric and internal combustion engine options, in collaboration with the Ford design teams in Dunton and Cologne, and to take full responsibility for its engineering. As Ford Otosan, we will continue to develop and manufacture vehicles that will take us into the future,” said Güven Özyurt, General Manager, Ford Otosan. In addition to its design and engineering, the E-Transit Courier, which will be manufactured by Ford Otosan at its Craiova plant, will be available in diesel- and petrol-engine versions in 2023 and electric versions in 2024.  All-electric productivity and charging solutions E-Transit Courier’s all-electric powertrain has been engineered to deliver an uncompromised driving experience for customers, including a powerful 100 kW motor and one-pedal driving capability.   Ford Pro Charging offers an end-to-end solution for home, depot, and public charging, including hardware installation and management software that helps to optimize the charging process. Simplified billing and administration via Ford Pro Charging software also support businesses whose drivers take their work vehicle home, as well as streamlining public charging. Ford Pro expects E-Transit Courier to be popular with customers who charge at home, targeting an 11 kW AC overnight home charge in 5.7 hours 1. Charging also can be scheduled to take advantage of cheaper overnight energy using the SYNC screen or charging software. To support efficient public charging, the vehicle offers a DC fast charge capability of up to 100 kW and it is expected that the system to add 87 km of range in 10 minutes 1, and charge from 10-80 percent in less than 35 minutes. E-Transit Courier also comes with access to the BlueOval Charge Network, which is set to include E-Transit Courier public chargers. Customers with five or more vehicles can also benefit from the tailored features of Ford Pro E Telematics. The system uses live data to help maximize vehicle productivity, as well as deliver features to support the effective and intuitive use of Ford Pro Charging.   ‘Plug and Charge’ enables E-Transit Courier to simply charge when using compatible BlueOval Charge Network chargers. Charging begins automatically, and a bill and charge summary is sent to the owner after unplugging. To go further between charges, ‘Intelligent Range’ aggregates data to deliver more accurate range figures.  Customer-focused design E-Transit Courier’s all-new body design delivers increased load capacity in all dimensions. The enhanced width between the rear wheel arches is 1,220 mm, enabling the compact van to carry two Euro pallets simultaneously for the first time. Total cargo volume is now 2.9 m3 3, 25 percent more than the outgoing model. This can be further increased using the new load-through bulkhead feature, which enables customers to carry items such as planks or pipe over 2,600 mm long. The maximum payload for the all-electric model is 700 kg 2, with a maximum towing weight of 750 kg 3.  E-Transit Courier helps businesses to stand out, with a bold, distinctive exterior design and a spacious, practical interior designed around compact van users’ needs. The all-new model offers a very comprehensive standard equipment specification including unique cabin features with a ‘squircle’ steering wheel design to improve leg room and visibility for the driver, as well as a column-mounted gear shifter, push-button ignition, and an electronic handbrake to deliver increased configurable storage space.  The ‘digiboard’ instrument panel contains a 12-inch center touchscreen with Ford’s latest SYNC 4 system. Subscription-based Connected Navigation, which will be available in the Turkish market in the forthcoming period, can boost productivity and reduce driver workload with updates on traffic, parking, charging, and local conditions. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility are standard 4. An innovative, class-unique ‘Office Pack’ includes a foldaway flat work surface and lighting to make using a laptop, filling in paperwork, or taking a break in the cab easier and more comfortable. Driver and cargo safety are paramount concerns in the E-Transit Courier’s design. E-Transit Courier sets a new benchmark in the segment with its comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems as standard 5. An optional further bundle includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering and Stop & Go, a Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert, Intersection Assist, and Reverse Brake Assist for more peace of mind in urban driving.  Every E-Transit Courier features a built-in modem as standard, enabling always-on connectivity with the Ford Pro ecosystem and wireless software updates that can evolve the vehicle’s capability over time without requiring a dealer visit. Improved security and cost of ownership  After activating the built-in modem, operators can benefit from enhanced vehicle security alerts for collisions and break-ins via Ford Pro Software in the upcoming period. With Fleet Start Inhibit, fleet managers can remotely enable and disable E-Transit Courier to help prevent theft or unauthorized use outside of work hours. Ford Pro partnered with vehicle security experts TVL to offer factory-fit lock packs for E-Transit Courier. These security packs include secondary hook locks to mitigate against “peel and steal” attacks and auto-locking for the sliding side door to reduce driver workload and shave seconds off each delivery. Ford Pro Service expects E-Transit Courier’s non-scheduled maintenance costs to be at least 35 percent lower than on diesel-powered models. The all-new van is backed by the same comprehensive Ford Pro Service network – including an expanding Mobile Service capability, the unique connected uptime system, and Europe’s largest dedicated commercial vehicle dealer network – as the rest of the Transit family. # # # 1 Charge time based on manufacturer computer engineering simulations. Istanbul Metrobus Fare: Prices for Different Rides (2024)

In January 2024 the Metrobus full fare was increased to 26.27 TL.

Metrobuses provide a convenient way to traverse Istanbul, and fares are calculated based on the number of stops:

• Four to nine stops: 20.23 TL
