Terms and Conditions of Use

The Ford Parts online purchasing website ("this website"or "FordParts.com"€) is brought to you by Ford Motor Company ("FORD") together with the Ford or Lincoln Mercury Dealership that you select as your preferred dealer ("dealer"). FORD is not the seller of the parts offered for sale on this website. Rather, any and all parts purchased through this website are sold to you by your dealer. FORD is providing the website solely to facilitate an efficient and easy means for customers to order parts from participating dealers. FORD is not a party to the transaction between you and your dealer, nor does it control the dealer's customer pricing.

You agree to comply with all applicable export and re-export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations maintained by the U.S. Department of Commerce, and trade and economic sanctions maintained by the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, in regard to products purchased on this website. You specifically acknowledge and understand that products offered on this website are subject to U.S. export control laws and regulations. You further certify that you are not a prohibited party under the laws of any applicable jurisdiction and you will not -€“ directly or indirectly - without obtaining prior authorization from FORD and the competent government authorities as required by those laws and regulations: (1) sell, export, re-export, transfer, divert, or dispose of any product offered on this website to any prohibited person, entity, or destination; or (2) use the product for any use prohibited by applicable laws, including the laws or regulations of the United States.

Acceptance of Terms and Conditions of Use

This website is open to U.S. residents (excluding U.S. territories) who are 18 years of age or older. Your access to and use of this website is subject to these Terms and Conditions of Use (Terms and Conditions). By accessing this website, you agree to be bound by the Terms and Conditions whether or not you have read them. If you do not agree to these Terms and Conditions, do not access this website. FORD may at its sole discretion, with or without notice, modify these Terms and Conditions at any time and such modifications will be effective immediately upon being posted on this website. Your continued use of this website will indicate your acceptance of these modified Terms and Conditions of Use. If you do not agree to the Terms and Conditions or any modification of the Terms and Conditions, then you must immediately stop using this website. By conducting financial transactions on this website, you represent that you are 18 years of age or older.

FORD reserves the right to change, suspend or discontinue all or any aspects of this website at any time without prior notice. FORD, as website administrator and parts manufacturer, or your dealer may make changes to any products or services offered on this website, or to the applicable prices for any such products or services, without notice at any time prior to placement of your order. The products and services listed on this website may not be up to date, and FORD and your dealer are not obligated to update them. The products and services offered or referred to on this website are subject to availability and are subject to change without notice.

Tampering with the site, misrepresenting your or any other user's identity, using buying agents or conducting fraudulent or illegal activities on the website are prohibited. You agree not to use any robot, spider, automated technology, device, or manual process to monitor or copy the information contained on this website and you will not use any of the same to interfere or attempt to interfere with the proper working of this website.

Your dealer, not FORD, is the seller of the parts on this website and all customer prices are set by each individual dealer. All transactions are solely between your dealer and you, the customer. FORD is not a party to the transaction between you and your dealer and does not have any input into or control over the dealer's customer pricing.

Unless noted otherwise, the price displayed for products on this website represents the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) listed on the product itself or estimated in accordance with standard industry practice. These prices do not include materials/handling fees, labor, taxes or any other fees that may apply. Your dealer is solely authorized to set prices for the product and services, by either accepting the MSRP or setting customer pricing, and for any applicable fees including but not limited to those mentioned herein. Prices are subject to change without notice.

The price of an item will not be confirmed until you order. Further, your credit card will NOT be charged until after your order has been shipped to you or picked up by you from the dealer, as the case may be. Despite best efforts, a small number of the items on this website may be mispriced. If an item's correct price is higher than the dealer's stated price, your dealer will, at his or her discretion, either contact you for instructions before shipping or cancel your order and notify you of such cancellation and the reason for such cancellation.

The amount of tax charged for your order depends upon many factors, including:

  • The identity of the seller
  • The type of item purchased, and
  • The destination of the shipment or location where you will pick it up.

The dealer(s) providing the service(s) and merchandise on this website charge sales tax in the tax jurisdiction(s) in which they are registered. Taxes not collected by them may be your responsibility depending on the laws of the jurisdiction in which the sale takes place.

How Sales Tax Is Calculated

If an item is subject to sales tax at the location where the sale takes place, tax is generally calculated on its total selling price. In accordance with state tax laws, the total selling price of an item may include, some or all of the following; item-level shipping charges, handling charges if applicable, discounts and an allocation of order-level shipping and handling charges and discounts.

The tax rate applied to your order will generally be the combined state and local rate for the address where your order is shipped or the location where it is picked up, as required by state tax laws. Therefore, the sales tax rate applied to your order may be different for an order shipped to your home address than it is for an order for the very same items shipped to your work address or items picked up at the dealership.

Your dealer is solely responsible for accepting/confirming your tax exemption.

Estimated Tax

Many factors can change between the time you place an order and the time your order is shipped. Therefore, the amount appearing on your order as "Estimated Tax"may differ from the sales taxes ultimately charged.

As noted above, transactions made via FordParts.com are solely between you and the applicable dealer. FordParts.com and participating dealers utilize third-party service providers to process payments and store your card information.

Most US-issued credit and debit cards can be used on this website. In order to make a payment, you must enter valid credit or debit card information. By submitting an order on FordParts.com, you authorize the dealer to charge your card in the specified amount. You will receive a receipt of your FordParts.com transactions.

FORD reserves the right to change or terminate this website, or any parts thereof, at any time without notice. Any and all changes and/or amendments to these Terms and Conditions will become binding immediately.

Shipping/Delivery/Pickup

Delivery options you choose are based on items in stock at your dealer, from the time that an order is received and processed. Your dealer cannot ship to PO, FPO or APO boxes or international addresses other than those in Puerto Rico.

All items purchased from this website are made pursuant to a shipment contract. This means that the risk of loss and title for such items passes to you when your dealer delivers the item to the carrier. FORD and the dealer reserve the right to refuse to replace orders for customers who have made excessive loss and replacement requests determined at the sole discretion of FORD and the dealer.

FORD and your dealer are not responsible for orders that are not received. All orders are subject to a verification process, and any information submitted that cannot be verified by a customer's financial institution(s) may cause delays.

Order Acceptance/Confirmation

Your receipt of an electronic or other form of order confirmation does not signify your dealer's acceptance of your order, nor does it constitute confirmation of your dealer's offer to sell. FORD and your dealer reserve the right at any time after receipt of your order to accept or decline your order for any reason in their sole discretion.

You may cancel an order via this website that is in a pending processing status on the My Orders page. Once an order is processed, it is your sole responsibility to contact your dealer directly if you wish to cancel the order.

Cancellations, Returns and Exchanges

Your dealer will accept returns or exchanges of most Motorcraft®, Ford Parts and Ford Accessories postmarked within 30 days of your receipt; and, credit you within 30 days. All returns and exchanges must be returned to your dealer in person or via shipping (solely at your expense unless in the case of dealership error), in the original box, in new, resalable condition, with all instructions and hardware, and in the condition it was received; otherwise, it is at the dealership's discretion to accept the return. If you opted not to provide a VIN(s), your dealer, at his or her discretion, may not be responsible for incorrectly ordered parts. Returns and exchanges may be subject to a restocking fee of up to 10 percent, which will be waived if the return or exchange is due to an error by your dealer. Shipping is nonrefundable.

Attempting to return any parts or assemblies that have been tampered with or modified in a manner that affects the resalability and/or safety of the part(s) is prosecutable under the law, and these parts or assemblies are not eligible for return credit, refund and/or exchange.

No-Risk Core Return Policy

By purchasing products from your dealer via this website, you agree that you accept and will abide by the terms of FORD's no-risk core return policy. You can obtain a copy of the FORD core return policy directly from your dealer or by clicking on the no-risk core return policy link.

A core is typically a rebuildable part used as a partial trade-in for a new or rebuilt part and a '€˜core charge' is similar to the deposit paid for a returnable can or bottle. It is an additional charge at the time of purchase to promote the return of the core when the part is replaced. When the core is returned, the charge is refunded.

Labor costs or any other consequential expenses incurred on products purchased on this website are nonrefundable by FORD.

Product Warranty

You agree to the limited warranties for the products that have been purchased. See your dealer for a copy of the limited warranty applicable to the part purchased.

Accounts, Passwords and Security

You are entirely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account information, including your password, and for any and all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify FORD immediately of any unauthorized use of your account or password, or any other breach of security. You may not use anyone else'€™s user name, password or account at any time without the express permission and consent of the holder of that user name, password or account. FORD and your dealer cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with these obligations.

Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL FORD, ITS AFFILIATES, AND ANY OF THEIR RESPECTIVE DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS OR OTHER REPRESENTATIVES BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE OR AGGRAVATED DAMAGES (INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF DATA, INCOME OR PROFIT, LOSS OF OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY AND THIRD-PARTY CLAIMS) OR ANY OTHER DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH: THIS WEBSITE; ANY MATERIALS, INFORMATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS APPEARING ON THIS WEBSITE; ANY SOFTWARE, TOOLS, TIPS, PRODUCTS OR SERVICES OFFERED THROUGH, CONTAINED IN OR ADVERTISED ON THIS WEBSITE; ANY LINK PROVIDED ON THIS WEBSITE; AND YOUR ACCOUNT AND PASSWORD, WHETHER OR NOT FORD HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FORD and its affiliates and their respective directors, officers, employees, agents or other representatives from and against all claims, liability and expenses, including all legal fees and costs arising from or relating to (a) your breach of these Terms and Conditions of Use; and (b) your use of this website including transmission or placement of information or material by you on this website. This provision shall survive the termination of your right to use this website.

Because this method of dispute resolution is personal, individual and provides the exclusive method for resolving such disputes, you further agree, to the extent permitted by applicable laws, to waive any right you may have to commence or participate in any class action or class-wide arbitration against FORD related to any claim.

Oil Pressure Sensor - Is this a common failure

  • Add to quote

My Excursion has been sitting for about a week, so I took it for an errand tonight. As I came up to a stop sign, I had a flash of a red light from the dash board. I realized it was the check gauge light, but it was already out and everything looked fine. After my trip into the store, when I fired it up the oil pressure gauge did not come up until tapped the gas pedal. The truck drove flawlessly. No indication at all of not having enough oil pressure, so I figure there most be something wrong with the sensor or a piece of debris blocking it allowing it not to be able to read the pressure properly. Before anyone asks, the oil is changed regularly. I run synthetic now and it is not yet time for a change. I was thinking about changing the filter and cleaning out the housing to see if there is a debris issue before going any further. I just wanted to see if a sensor failure on the low pressure is common. Thanks

knightgang .....mine did the same thing exactly the same thing.....i just replaced the sensor and everything went back to normal...hope this helps....

John, where did you buy your sensor from?

ford excursion oil pressure sensor

Those sensors are known to go bad, usually they leak oil though. I have replaced them for inoperative gauges though.

i imagine ur talkin about the lpop pressure gauge. its really not a gauge. its a switch that just needs like 12psi to go to the normal operating spot. that gauge moving wont hurt much though. it the pressure would ever get too low, it would shut the truck off.

I am fully aware that this is an idiot light that looks like a gauge. I also know that if there is no LP oil flow, there will be no HP oil flow, thereby shutting down the truck. That is why I indicated in the original post that the truck was running just fine and that it appeared to be a sensor issue. The pressure switch still needs to function to operate the gauge. I was confirming that this is a common issue, or if there were other know issues (like a wire chaff somewhere) that would interrupt the signal causing the gauge to not register.

knightgang ....i picked mine up from the dealership......i believe i gave around 30 bucks fo it......for some reason mine didnt leak it just stopped working ....kinda crazy.....

ford excursion oil pressure sensor

It has happened. It normal ranges at 7psi and above... Any autoparts store should have the switch. I don't think it is common and can only think of a couple that posted about here. It would be a great time to get a oil filter cap that is drilled and tapped for an oil pressure sender and install a real oil pressure gauge. I got a gauge pod that mounts above the rear mirror for my 08. Looks real nice.

Im having the same issue with my 03 f250 6.0 diesel. Runs fine then the check gage comes on at the same time the oil pressure gage drops down & it dies after awhile. Did it turn out to be the oil pressure sensor? Is that hard to get too? Thanks alot

His problem had no issue with the engine dying though... If you're losing LP oil, and the motor is dying, you have a whole different problem.

KR, well it was and it wasn't... It must have been some cruddy junk in the end of the switch (oil side) because I never changed the sensor, but after running HSS in it and switching to synthetic oil, the issue went away on its own... However, the switch is in the top of the oil cooler housing. It is easy to get to and change out.

I swapped mine when I did my BPD kit. They are very cheap, you might as well go OEM.

What I have never understood was why Ford engineering didn't put a better gauge system in the dash so the driver could tell if an issue was about to develope. Especially as how critical to a 6.0 oil and fuel pressures are.

ford excursion oil pressure sensor

Two reasons: 1) $$$$$$$ 2) 90+% of drivers have no clue what the pressure would mean. Gone are the days of fixing what you own.

I have a no start 06 f250 6.0. I installed and programed a Scan Gage and the ICP would read <250 psi while the engine is cranking. After 21 minutes or more the ICP within 3 sec would read >500 psi. I want to r/r the ICP. Can you tell me where the ICP is and approximate cost for OEM or is there a better brand? thank you Kukui.

The ICP sensor on a 06 should be in the passenger side valve cover.

I have a 2003 Ford Expedition (E.B. Edition) 5.4 4x4 188,000 miles Need some help and advice please... I was coming home and I felt a loss of power all of a sudden and instantly a low oil pressure light turned on which directly following that my engine shut off. I checked my oil dipstick and it was a little low on oil but still reading on the dip stick above the low refill line and looked clean. I then started it and all seem fine placed into gear and resumed driving another mile same thing happened. I was less than a mile from my house at this point and restarted it and made it back to my garage as doing so light came on again and the engine shutdown again. I then decided to give it an oil change and inspect the oil. After inspecting the oil there was a small amount of shimmer to the oil this being signs of very vary small flaky metal dust within the oil that was draining. This getting me very worried about internal engine damage. I refilled the motor with 5w-20 synthetic blend motor oil and used a Mobil 1 Oil filter as the first oil filter I used was a Fram extra mileage oil filter which I'll never use again I'll be using Motorcraft from here on out. After doing the oil change I then restarted the engine it started and sounded good at idle no lights came on and could sit there and not have an issue, BUT as soon as I placed it into reverse instantly low oil pressure light came on and the oil pressure gauge dropped as it did before but this time doing so instantly once placing into a gear and could hear some engine noise not wanting to rev it up much but being able to and doing so slightly it would rev and gain RPM's but sounded like there was engine noise. I was literally just sitting in my driveway and placing it into gear as soon as I place it back into park oil pressure would return to normal and no more engine noise. The noise does not occur in park and the oil pressure gauge is at normal mid point and no low oil pressure light is on (the light is not on) but when placing into reverse or drive it instantly looses oil pressure and light comes on and any rpm rev results to engine noise. Looking for some advice. Always ran good prior had no signs of anything wrong until now. Steps I'm looking at taking to try and figure out what's wrong... 1. Going to do a pressure test today after work. 2. Results might change after pressure test results but most likely drop the oil pan and check to see if the oil pickup screen is plugged. 3. Oil pump failure not sure how to determine but sounds like their a pain to replace. Not sure if this is the correct steps but figured its a good start... Also it seems that changing the oil sending unit would be something that would not help as there is a for sure loss of oil pressure due to noise being heard from the engine when loss of oil pressure occurs and the low oil pressure/high temp light turns on when going into drive or reverse. Also could a crankcase sensor be a culprit in what is going on? My gut tells me it's either the oil pickup screen that's clogged or the oil pump has failed or it's both the oil pump failing has led to the oil pickup screen clogging up due to engine damage occurring? Any advice or expertise would be very helpful and I'd be very grateful for anybody's feedback about this subject matter. Thanks in advance.

Just my opinion but I have been using Fram filters for over 30 years and never had a problem with them. The Oil pressure sender does not measure OIL PRESSURE it is simply a switch that tells you either you have pressure or you don't. Think of it as a light switch as that is all it does. If you know that the oil level is full then I would agree its could be the pump, screen or the sender unit. Not really into throwing parts at it But I would first replace the sender as that would be the easiest and cheapest and least amount of labor to change.

Okay I'll pick one up and replace the switch they're cheap enough being $10 or so I'd rather try that before having to drop the pan... Thank you for your response. I'll follow up with any updates good or bad.

Changing oil pump means removing the front timing cover and oil pan, it's in the front driven by the crank. Might as well replace the timing components while you're in there if you decide on replacing the oil pump, though you should weigh the cost against the probability that the rest of the engine may have been damaged due to low oil pressure, and it may be better to just get a long block for it.

I have had my expy 2 quarts low and still had good oil pressure (Didn't have it that low for long.) In your case it would depend on how often you change you oil and brand of oil you use. And how long you have had the expy. If recently purchased then I would say you don't know the past history and then you may want to suspect the worst.

Appreciate the feedback so far yes I'm going to have to way out the bad and ugly if replacing the oil pump really hoping that's not the culprit. I was disappointed to find out that the oil pump is that involved in order to replace. I purchased this expedition around exactly this same time last year with the previous owner being the original owner and having documentation of all work done to it and proper regular oil changes being done. Bought it from a Doctor and I purchased it for a family vehicle to take on road trips it has gone to Myrtle Beach and back and to Pittsburgh several times always do the oil changes myself every 3000 miles and it burns up some oil so I check it often. I use VMAX Valvoline extended mileage synthetic blend 5w-20 and have used Fram oil extended life filters up to this point. I have done maintenance on the vehicle regularly and religiously and have gone through and replaced all areas of rust on it and gave it a new paint job as well which having a history of auto body work and have added many add-on features it as well Bull Bar, Light Bar, Front Trailer Hitch, and Aftermarket stereo with Video up front and in the rear replacing all stock equipment. I tow a 2000 26' McGregor Sail Boat in the summer and in the winter I tow some sleds and a trailer of wood when needed. I've owned 4 expeditions prior to this one some newer some older always had great luck with them but this is a first for me having a real issue prior to using and eventually selling... probably to much info but just some history on vehicle and the year I have owned it for. It was well taking care of previous to me though and have a huge yellow folder with a history of records of it having been well taken care of. As I have owned it it's also been well taken care of.

My thought was that if any engine work was done it could be that the oil pump is loose. But I think having it for the past year and knowing its history That is most likely not a problem. Try the sender unit and see what happens.

Okay sounds good Sender Unit going in tonight and will update ASAP thanks to everyone for your feedback. Everyone has been a big help!

Make sure that you top off the oil. Check the old sender to see if it is clogged. Have you done any work in the area of the PCM or the Instrument Cluster lately?? The wire that comes from the sender goes to a connector near the PCM and then to the cluster.

I replaced a hose near the PCM that was in bad shape and was throwing an error code but wasn't the one that was going to the actual PCM a couple months ago. I have replaced the Vacuum and Emmisions Purge Solenoid also about a month ago. I replaced a EGR Pressure Feedback Sensor and the EGR Pressure feedback Hoses also because those were brittle and in bad shape as well and that was throwing an error code about 3 months ago. I swapped a ignition coil that was on the same side of where the PCM is located. That was 3 months ago. That being said I have not done anything with the Instrument Cluster at all though.

MasterPro Ignition 1 Terminal Oil Pressure Switch

Multiple applications, standard ignition 1 terminal oil pressure switch, motorcraft oil pressure switch, what is an oil pressure sensor.

Your oil pressure sensor or switch monitors oil pressure levels in the engine to prevent premature wear and alerts you to low oil pressure before it causes catastrophic engine failure. An oil pressure sensor or switch sends signals to the engine computer, and may also directly or indirectly trigger your oil pressure gauge or low-pressure warning light. If the oil pressure sensor or switch in your vehicle stops functioning properly, it could provide inaccurate readings or fail to send oil pressure measurements at all. This may cause the oil pressure light to come on, or the oil pressure gauge may read very high or not display any reading. This may also occur if you don't have the appropriate type or amount of oil in your engine if your oil pump is no longer working as it should, or if the oil passages in your engine have become clogged with sludge or debris. Before replacing your oil pressure sensor or oil sending unit, check your oil level and condition and listen to your engine run. If you're low on oil, add what is needed or perform a complete oil change to restore its level and condition. If you notice any ticking, knocking, or clunking noises from the engine, or you can smell oil burning, there may be other issues that will need to be addressed to prevent engine damage or failure. After you've completed your inspection, if the oil level is appropriate, the engine seems to be running as it should, and there are no other notable issues, it may be time to replace your oil pressure sensor or switch.
