Why should you book a vacation package to Las Vegas?

The best way to enjoy Las Vegas, saving time and money, is with a vacation package. By bundling together hotels and flights, you will often be able to take advantage of preferential rates, as opposed to standard single rates when booking separately. You will also save time matching hotel availability to your flights. If flexibility isn’t your priority, Las Vegas vacation packages could leave you more money to spend in the city itself, rather than on getting there.

When should you book a vacation package to Las Vegas?

Booking a Las Vegas flight and hotel package is an efficient way to save on stress and cash. For the best deals and rooms, it’s advisable to search for Las Vegas vacation packages during quieter periods. Traveling during the week is generally more affordable than at weekends, and by booking earlier you can help avoid higher rates. The July-August ‘Monsoon’ season is a good time to find Las Vegas travel deals, as most travelers opt to visit during spring and fall when the weather is hotter and dryer. It’s also a good time to get away from the concrete and visit the surrounding valleys, mountains and national parks in cooler weather.

Whilst searching for Las Vegas travel deals, be sure to check out seasonal activities. Most crowd-pulling events such as the NASCAR race, the Super Bowl, and the Rodeo happen during fall and winter as well as major conventions such as the Consumer Electronics Show and the Magic International.

Golden Knights hire Bruce Cassidy as coach

The Golden Knights on Tuesday named Bruce Cassidy the third coach in franchise history. He coached the Boston Bruins for parts of the past six seasons before being fired June 6.

Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy argues with officials during the second period of an NHL ...

The Golden Knights’ nearly monthlong search for a coach ended with someone who wasn’t even available when it began.

The Knights on Tuesday named Bruce Cassidy their third coach since joining the NHL in 2017. He replaces Pete DeBoer, who was fired May 16 after the team missed the playoffs for the first time.

Cassidy, 57, coached the Boston Bruins for parts of the past six seasons before being fired June 6. The Bruins were 245-108-46 (.672 points percentage) in his tenure and never missed the playoffs. He led them to the 2019 Stanley Cup Final against Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo and the St. Louis Blues, which Boston lost in seven games.

Cassidy won the Jack Adams Award for the NHL’s best coach the following season when the Bruins won the Presidents’ Trophy.

That recent track record meant the Ottawa, Ontario, native was unemployed for only eight days despite the coaching market being full of experienced names such as Barry Trotz, John Tortorella, Rick Tocchet and Paul Maurice.

“The Golden Knights are very pleased to have Bruce come in to coach our team,” general manager Kelly McCrimmon said. “His success in Boston over six years is extremely impressive. His teams have had a clear identity, having been among the very best in the NHL in terms of goals for, goals against, goal differential and special teams.”

The Knights were the first club to hire a coach from outside their organization this offseason. Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Philadelphia and Winnipeg are still searching, and Chicago, Edmonton and Florida have interim coaches.

“I am excited to join an organization that shares my commitment to winning and can’t wait to get to work with the talent that has been assembled in Vegas,” Cassidy said. “It’s been impressive to watch the city embrace the Golden Knights from afar.”

Cassidy previously worked for Knights president of hockey operations George McPhee in Washington. He coached the Capitals with McPhee as his general manager for the 2002-03 season and for 28 games in the 2003-04 season before he was fired. He went 47-47-7 with nine ties.

Cassidy spent several years reclimbing the coaching ladder until getting the opportunity in Boston. He was an assistant in Chicago and then coached in the Ontario Hockey League and American Hockey League before being put behind an NHL bench again. He was promoted from coach of the Providence Bruins to an assistant in 2016, then was named Boston’s interim coach when Stanley Cup-winning coach Claude Julien was fired Feb. 7, 2017.

Cassidy then got the full-time job, and during his tenure as coach, the Bruins ranked second in points percentage, second in wins, 10th in goals per game, first in goals against per game, third on the power play and third on the penalty kill. Boston advanced past the first round of the playoffs four times.

The Bruins didn’t reach the second round this season, losing their first series to the Carolina Hurricanes in seven games. Cassidy was fired 23 days later. General manager Don Sweeney said Cassidy was “terrific,” but thought the way his message was being heard fell short after 472 regular-season and playoff games.

“He’s able to push the buttons that are necessary,” Sweeney said June 7. “But it takes its toll. Over the course of time, it takes its toll.”

Cassidy told Boston media members Thursday that he already had talked to several teams and hoped to coach again as soon as possible. He said he thought after the Bruins’ exit meetings that his job was “status quo” for next season until Sweeney came to his house and fired him, according to NHL.com .

“I wanted to come back and coach the Bruins,” Cassidy said. “Raw deal? I don’t know about that. I felt I did my job.”

Cassidy will be tasked with returning the Knights to Stanley Cup contention, as his predecessors set a high bar.

DeBoer was 98-50-12 (.650 points percentage) and led the Knights to back-to-back semifinal appearances in his first two seasons. Gerard Gallant was 118-75-20 (.601 points percentage) and won the Jack Adams Award while steering the team to the 2018 Stanley Cup Final.

Cassidy played professional hockey from 1983 to 1997. A defenseman, he was taken in the first round of the 1983 NHL draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. He appeared in 36 NHL games, all with Chicago, and also played in the American Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and International Hockey League, as well as in Germany and Italy.

LIVE BLOG: Wednesday's results and news from the Fontainebleau

It was an eventful Round of 32 Day at The Las Vegas Pickleball Cup.

Check out some of Wednesday's highlights from Sin City.

6:55 p.m. PT: Tactical adjustments help Sock, Shick outlast Ignatowich, Freeman

Jack Sock and Collin Shick overcame two sizeable deficits in their 3-11, 12-10, 11-7 victory over No. 12 seeds James Ignatowich and Max Freeman in the Round of 32.

They faced the first of those deficits down 3-8 in Game 2, after having already dropped the first game.

It was at this point that the No. 22 seeds made an important adjustment: moving Sock from the left side—where he usually plays—to the right side.

This put Shick across from the lefty Freeman and created patterns that helped the tandem come back to take the second game 12-10.

Shick remained on the left side to start off Game 3, but it didn’t have near the same success; he and Sock fell into an 0-5 hole in just a few minutes.

At that point, Sock returned to the left side and took over the match. He sparked a run with two consecutive fourth-shot volley poaches, and the North Carolina duo would go on to score 11 out of the final 13 points to secure the win.

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by CARVANA PPA TOUR (@ppatour)

Even though Sock playing the right hasn’t been a common sight on tour this year, he says that it is something he does in training.

“We do it at home a lot, practicing working on stuff together so that we always have that to fall back on, and it worked in Game 2,” he shared. “It was a horrendous idea in Game 3 to start, but I went back to my home on the left side, and we grinded it out.”

Sock and Shick will face No. 7 seeds Dekel Bar and Zane Navratil in Thursday’s Round of 16.

5:00 p.m. PT: Cassidy, Brown stun McGuffin, Martinez Vich in three games

Rob Cassidy and Marshall Brown are into the men’s doubles Round of 16 after an 11-9, 3-11, 11-8 upset victory over No. 5 seeds Tyson McGuffin and Jaume Martinez Vich .

The No. 26 seeds came out strong and surprised their opponents to take a highly competitive first game, but McGuffin and Martinez Vich found their footing in the second and cruised to a win to bring on Game 3.

In the decider, Cassidy and Brown found themselves facing a 3-7 deficit, just four points from defeat. But some heroics from Cassidy—including a sliding ATP—helped them end the match on an 8-2 run to seal the victory.

Not bad for never having played together before this week.

“It’s a first-time partnership, but it feels like we’ve been playing together for a long time,” Brown shared. “We’re communicating well, and we know whose balls are whose. It’s so much fun playing with Rob.”

On Thursday, the pair will face the winner of the match pitting Gabriel Tardio and Andrei Daescu against AJ Koller and Roscoe Bellamy .

4:10 p.m. PT: Parenteau, Newman overcome slow start to defeat Erokhina, Bellamy

Catherine Parenteau and Riley Newman and are into the Round of 16 after a 12-10, 11-5 victory over No. 40 seeds Genie Erokhina and Roscoe Bellamy .

Despite the overall positive final result, it was a tough start for the tandem. They found themselves trailing 2-10 in the first game, but they saved six games points on their way to an impressive comeback to take it, 12-10.

The momentum from the rally carried them to an 11-5 triumph in Game 2.

This is Parenteau and Newman's first time playing together since 2022, but they have an extensive history of competing as a partnership and have earned 15 PPA medals together.

The No. 6 seeds will face No. 20 seeds Parris Todd and Hunter Johnson in the Round of 16 on Thursday.

2:45 p.m. PT: Todd, Johnson upset Brascia, McGuffin in high-scoring affair

The No. 20 seeds Parris Todd and Hunter Johnson defeated 12th-seeded Maggie Brascia and Tyson McGuffin  11-7, 12-10.

2:25 p.m. PT: Waters, Johns too much for Bouchard, Y. Johnson in mixed doubles

The top-seeded tandem of Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns needed only 23 minutes to secure a berth in the Round of 16 with a convincing 11-3, 11-4 victory over Genie Bouchard and Yates Johnson .

During the post-match interview, PickleballTV broadcaster Michelle McMahon asked Waters a fun question: "What the heck does a 17-year-old do in Las Vegas?"

"I've actually been coming here since I was like five years old. One time, we stayed for like two weeks. I've actually been here a lot, so I know all the good spots that are great for underage kids," she replied with a laugh. "I love the restaurants. The food here is great. The shopping is amazing, so I go shopping with my mom. When I was little, I used to go to Circus, Circus with my grandparents and I'd do all the fun circus games there. I still want to go on the roller coaster here. I want to go every year, but somehow I just never end up going on it, so there's a lot of things to do."

2:05 p.m. PT: Khlif impressive, ousts Garnett in three games

No. 33 Noe Khlif accomplished a notable feat on Wednesday afternoon by besting one of the top singles players in the business, No. 2 Connor Garnett , 11-9, 8-11, 11-4.

Khlif will face Tardio in the Round of 16.

1:15 p.m. PT: Duong cruises, showing no signs of fatigue from travel

No. 5 Quang Duong was competing in India just a few days ago, before returning stateside to make the Las Vegas tour stop.

The youngster clearly got some rest on the long flight home because he was picture perfect against No. 31 Michael Loyd , posting an 11-3, 11-3 win in just under 20 minutes.

Duong will face No. 9 Pablo Tellez in the Round of 16.

12:55 p.m. PT: Bacalla almost causes another surprise, but falls to Tardio No. 50  Dave Bacalla made headlines on Tuesday by defeating No. 15 Hayden Patriquin , and he came out firing again on Wednesday versus No. 19 Gabe Tardio .

Bacalla won the opening game 11-7 to get started on the right foot, before Tardio responded with 11-5, 11-6 triumphs of his own to seal the victory and advance to the Round of 16.

12:30 p.m. PT: Y. Johnson upsets JW Johnson to punch Round of 16 ticket

No. 18 Yates Johnson defeated No. 10 JW Johnson in straight games, 11-9, 11-3, to ensure his singles journey continues.

Johnson will face No. 8 Jaume Martinez Vich on Thursday.

12:15 p.m. PT: Staksrud takes care of business after early struggles against H. Johnson After dropping the opening game to No. 26 Hunter Johnson , top seed Federico Staksrud battled back to ultimately earn a 4-11, 11-8, 11-0 triumph and advance to the Round of 16.

No doubt it was a frustrating result for Johnson, who was just three points shy of putting Staksrud away in the second stanza.

The talented Argentinian, however, wouldn't be denied.

"It was a combination of Hunter playing really well and I was kind of slow with my legs. He was passing me left and right... He was playing really good cat and mouse and dropping, and he was making me guess, so there's a lot of things that I need to go back and look what happened there and try to adjust for next time because he got me," said Staksrud. "Honestly, five more minutes of that [second] game, and he was going to go through."

11:50 a.m. PT: Alshon withdraws from singles, Koller advances

No. 4  Christian Alshon withdrew from the singles portion of the tournament as he continues to recover from foot surgery.

That means that No. 41  AJ Koller advanced to the Round of 16 to face No. 20 Eric Roddy .

Alshon will still compete in gender doubles and mixed doubles competition in Las Vegas.

11:35 a.m. PT: Fahey stays hot, downs Castillo in straight games No. 17 Kate Fahey upset No. 9 Judit Castillo 11-3, 11-1 to advance to the Round of 16.

The University of Michigan product needed just 22 minutes to get the job done.

Fahey will face No. 5 Mary Brascia on Thursday. She's brimming with confidence after claiming gold at The Picklr Utah Open earlier this week with a victory over  Kaitlyn Christian .

11:25 a.m. PT : Waters enjoys successful return to singles, powers past Ronney

World No. 1 Anna Leigh Waters needed just 18 minutes to secure an 11-1, 11-4 victory over No. 38 Julia Ronney on Humana Championship Court.

Waters was participating in singles competition on the PPA Tour for the first time since the Select Medical Orange County Cup in June, where she claimed gold.

The 17-year-old phenom will face No. 13 Jorja Johnson in the Round of 16 on Thursday after No. 24 Allyce Jones elected to withdraw from singles due to injury.

Julia Ronney and Anna Leigh Waters shake hands after the match.

Vegas on a budget: 5 things to do for free, finding value at costco travel, members tell all: costco member hotel reviews, more about las vegas.

Las Vegas is a world of imagination. Just close your eyes and think about anything, and the odds are in your favor that you'll find it in Las Vegas. I mean, in only four miles of real estate, you can see relics from all parts of the world, like ancient Egypt, modern-day Venice, the streets of Paris, and the New York skyline. If that seems too kitschy, don't worry, there are plenty of elaborate resorts with non-stop gaming and over-the-top entertainment waiting to greet you. Where else in the world does a wonderland like this exist? Nowhere. But. Vegas.

The atmosphere of Las Vegas is something that you almost have to experience to understand fully. It's the ringing of chimes as a guest just hit the jackpot, the thumping bass from the club, the smell of unique and eclectic delicacies waiting to be tasted, and it's people-watching like nothing you've seen before. It's a never-ending source of irony and improbability where you can turn a chip and a chair into a million dollars.

For each visitor, Las Vegas is going to present a unique experience. It's like an equation where you + more = more of you: more chances to explore your personality, more opportunities to experiment with new ideas, and more thrills to discover around every corner. It's that reason alone that the sentiment "what happens here, stays here" is shared by so many visitors.

  • Carry only a limited amount of cash, just enough for gratuities and incidental purchases. Major credit cards are widely accepted and can be replaced if lost or stolen.
  • Always lock your hotel room door (including patio and balcony door on any level of the building) and use the peephole before opening the door.
  • Store your valuables (such as cash, credit cards and airline tickets) in the hotel’s in-room safe or front desk safety deposit box.
  • If you must carry valuables on your person, do so in a pouch or money belt concealed under your clothing. Purses and backpacks can be easy targets for thieves.
  • For complete and current safety and security information, including travelers' tips, public announcements, travel advisories and more, please visit the website of the U.S. Department of State at www.travel.state.gov.
  • December through February: 60° to 66° (Winter)
  • March through May: 72° to 90° (Spring)
  • June through August: 102° to 104° (Summer)
  • September through November: 96° to 70° (Autumn)

The Vegas climate's bark is worse than its bite. Sure, summer highs hover around 100°F, but with no humidity and ever-present air-conditioning, you'll be comfortable as long as you have water on hand. Even the warmer months (June-September) are entirely bearable if you hydrate. Luckily, with 300 days of sunshine a year, the chances of a rain-out are slim. On the other hand, nights can be chilly between late fall and early spring, so bring a sweater or windbreaker for your evening strolls beneath the neon-bathed skies. Las Vegas doesn't have a high or low season by the standard definition, but you'll find it the least crowded between November and January. Hotels are at their fullest July through October. Specific events—New Year's Eve, spring break, major conventions, sporting events—draw big crowds, so plan accordingly.
