Destination must-sees.

South America ms1

Buenos Aires:

The capital city of Argentina, birthplace of the tango, home to a mosaic of European-styled architecture and South American spirit, it’s nearly impossible not to fall head over heels in love with this very special place. It’s often called the “Paris of Latin America” and lives up to its name with incredible food, fantastic shopping, stunning architecture and culture galore.

South America ms2

Iguazu Falls:

Located at the crossroads of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, Iguazu Falls is thought of as the most beautiful waterfall in the world. The Brazilian side of the falls has a walkway along the canyon that allows visitors to go all the way out on an extension to the lower base of Devil’s Throat.

South America ms3

Machu Picchu:

A visit to one of the world’s most legendary sites is an absolute “must do” for anyone who travels to South America. High in the Andes Mountains in Peru with stunning panoramic views, this spectacular 15th century collection of structures and terraces will leave you awestruck.

A tourist boat near the cliffs of Torres del Paine National Park in Chile

Chilean Fjords:

An unforgettable full day cruise will bring you to visit the stunning Serrano and Balmaceda glaciers. As the cruise passes through the Seno Ultima Esperanza, or “Channel of Last Hope,” you’ll see the untouched beauty of Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, Chile’s biggest natural reserve.

Destination Must-Dos

South America md1

Tango Performance, Buenos Aires:

Dance! The Tango is arguably one of the greatest contributions Buenos Aires has made to world culture. The famous dance has somewhat seedy beginnings, as you may expect, but today it’s ultra glamorous and very entertaining. Visitors can enjoy glitzy tango shows, but anyone inspired to perfect their moves can find a willing teacher in salons, cafes and at dance events.

South America md2

Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro:

This is one of the most famous and beautiful beaches in the world. To the left you can see Sugarloaf and Fort Duque de Caxias, and to the right is Copacabana Fort. Walk the 2.2-mile-long beach and try some of the refreshing coconut water while you view the incredible sand sculptures.

Lima, Peru:

Take a walking tour through the historic city center of Lima, Peru to discover the city’s fascinating history. The city center is one of the most important tourist destinations in all of Peru due to the number of historically significant landmarks.

south america md4 1 winery

Santiago, Chile:

Indulge in a visit to a local winery in Santiago and enjoy some lunch complete with a sampling of some of Chile’s renown cabernet and carmenere wines. An expert winemaker will tell you about how wine is made in Chile. Cheers!

Expert Advice

diana

As you prepare to explore beautiful South and Central America, enjoy a casual dress style and be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes! Closed toed shoes are recommended, as many grounds are uneven or are dirt paths. Bring a swimsuit as several of the hotels have swimming pools.

South America e2

You're in for a treat as you sample the delicious flavors of South American cuisine. The climate provides the area with a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and meats to be sampled and savored.

South America e3

Peru provides one of the greatest shopping experiences in all of South America with its diversity of products. You will find many handicraft markets as well as top end ceramic shops, art galleries, jewelry stores and clothing boutiques, particularly in Lima and Cuzco. The Andean heritage is still very alive in Peru. Look for colorful Andean textiles in the form of blankets, ponchos, shawls, and scarves.

Peru is one of South America’s premier destinations and not just because of its status of the land of the ancient Incas, the ruins of Machu Picchu and the Peruvian Andes; it’s also full of many cultural, historical and archeologically significant sites. But it is also known for its world-renowned food scene. Higher end restaurants are popping up everywhere with cuisine influenced by Latin America, Europe and even the Amazon and everyone is taking notice.

If you are up for a larger than life experience consider the country of Ecuador. Despite its small size, Ecuador offers much more than one might ever imagine. The diverse landscape includes the Galapagos Islands; nearly 1400 miles of Pacific coastline, grasslands, volcanic mountains and the Amazon Rainforest and jungle. Considered a multicultural wonder, it is home to 44 different indigenous and ethnic groups whose culture and history contribute to the wide variety of delicious cuisine, all adding up to one big adventure for you!

This long and narrow country offers a variety of different ecosystems to explore. From the world’s most arid desert in the north, lush forests and coastal shores, to the frozen land in the south that is home to penguins, the activities are endless. Whether it’s sighting volcanoes, horseback riding or simply sipping on the world renowned wine, an adventure awaits. Speaking of wine, Chile has many vineyards and over 20 different types of grapes – a wine tasting is a must.

Brazil! Just its name conjures up images of beautiful scenery, beautiful people, beautiful wildlife and exciting nightlife! The largest country in South America, Brazil has been offering visitors a vacation experience like no other. Whether you choose to spend your days along its white sandy shores or high up in the clouds on a mountainside, the prospect of a magical and unforgettable adventure awaits at every turn.

South America Tours & Vacations

A Bolivian llama among the cactus in South America

Colorful, candid and everything in-between. South America beats to the rhythm of an infectious, eternal drum.

It is the sequined heat of Carnival and a cool breeze blowing across the Andes, a fiery Argentine tango and the soft silence of an Ecuadorian cloud forest. You taste it in the crackle of slow-cooked barbecue and the tang of a good pisco sour. About the only thing the continent lacks is monotony. From the rocky slopes of Galapagos to the dawn-lit ruins of Machu Picchu , South America is effervescent with sights, sounds and salsa. Now, pass the empanadas and let's talk adventure.

Patagonia – On the border of Chile and Argentina

Patagonia, stemming over 400,000 square miles at the southern end of South America, is comprised of the southern section of the Andes Mountains as well as lakes, fjords and glaciers. 8 Day Portuguese Coastal Way (Porto – Baiona)

8 Day Portuguese Coastal Way (Porto – Baiona)

Tour operator.

It's easy to see the world's sights. To stand in long lines, push through the crowds, and generally have the same standard-issue vacation as everyone else. But that's not good enough for us, and it's not good enough for you. We believe that travel should be easy. It should be fun. It should be worth your time and the price you paid. It should re-energize and transform. And above all else, it should be beyond the ordinary. Because how you see the world matters.

In 1882, Herman Tauck arrived in New York City from Germany in search of the American dream. His determination and values were passed on to his son, Arthur Tauck, who would realize that dream. With ingenuity and an innovative spirit, Arthur started Tauck Motor Tours, a travel company that would give birth to a new industry. The first tour, through the back roads of New England, was created by this 27-year-old in 1925. It embodied the same successful formula used by Tauck today: do the right thing. Craft a life-enriching travel experience; provide it at a single all-inclusive price; ensure there is great value for money; and rely on recommendations of satisfied customers to build a following and grow the business.

Two elements that did change over the next 90+ years – and three generations of Taucks – were the scope of destinations served and the variety of modes of travel used. Today Tauck delivers life-enriching travel experiences to every corner of the globe, incorporating small cruise ships, premium riverboats, trains, helicopters and more. What started as a New England motor coach tour company has truly evolved into an extraordinary global travel company. The fourth generation of Taucks is now involved in the company. While remarkable in any business, this seamless continuity across generations speaks to shared vision and values.

Throughout its history, the concept of “family” at Tauck has gone far beyond those sharing the surname to include hundreds of valued employees, and hundreds of thousands of loyal guests. The story of Tauck is the story of a unique American family company celebrating a passion for travel – a story that will continue to inspire generations to come.

A charming feature of this must-see tour is that it crosses many of Recife's graceful bridges and passes along Boa Viagem Beach -- a favorite with the locals.

From Republic Square, take photos of the Justice Hall, St Isabel Theatre and the Governor's Mansion, which houses the city's administrative offices.

You'll visit Casa da Cultura -- a former prison turned handicraft market . The old cells are now individual stores. Take advantage of 30 minutes here to shop and immerse yourself in the history and culture of Recife.

Drive by motorcoach four miles north to the colonial city of Olinda , founded by the Portuguese in 1537 and now a National Monument of Brazil. In 1982, Olinda became a UNESCO World Heritage site , leading to a full restoration of this once-proud city. Zoning rules now restrict redevelopment and preserve the remaining pastel-colored stucco buildings, colonial lattice and heavy, intricately carved doors. Many of the quaint houses are adorned with delicate balconies overlooking the narrow streets.

You'll see the Church of Our Lady of Mercy -- a magnificent sample of Baroque art -- and step inside the Sé Cathedral for a postcard-perfect view of Olinda and Recife.

Admire from the outside the Convento São Francisco -- the first Franciscan Convent in Brazil. Hidden among coconut trees, it was rebuilt between 1715 and 1754 and is still home to many monks.

You will visit the Monastery of St Benedict -- an important Catholic architectural complex also built in Baroque style. A highlight of your guided tour is the Golden Chapel . Built between 1696 and 1724, this Baroque chapel is one of Brazil's most beautiful examples of religious architecture.

Access to the heart of Olinda is by shuttle van. Terrain includes cobblestones and inclines. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Tour does not operate on holidays. Tour duration may be extended and there may be traffic delays due to Carnival.

Qantas discounts more than 50,000 seats to North and South America destinations as it confirms new Melbourne-Honolulu service

Qantas has launched a massive sale covering a number of international destinations as it also confirmed it will replace Jetstar on one overseas route.

Bryant Hevesi

Qantas has discounted more than 50,000 seats to destinations across North and South America in announcing its newest service to the United States.

The flying kangaroo confirmed on Tuesday it will launch flights between Melbourne and Honolulu from early May next year.

The Airbus A330 service, which will operate three times per week, will be Qantas' second Hawaii route as it already flies between Sydney and Honolulu.

Qantas will take over the Melbourne to Honolulu route from its budget offshoot Jetstar, with the low cost carrier's twice weekly flights to end in late April.

The Boeing 787 Jetstar currently deploys on the service will be used for another long-haul route, Qantas said. Jetstar will continue to fly between Sydney and Honolulu.

Honolulu will be the third destination in the United States that Qantas will fly to from Melbourne, alongside Los Angeles and Dallas.

Qantas will be the only airline with non-stop flights from Melbourne to Honolulu. Hawaiian Airlines only flies to Sydney.

"We are thrilled to continue to enhance our network in America with the launch of a new route from Melbourne to Honolulu, bringing a new, tropical destination to our Melbourne customers," Qantas CEO International Cam Wallace said.

As part of Qantas' seven-day North and South America Red Tail Sale, economy return fares from Melbourne to Honolulu are being offered from $1,049, premium economy from $2,399 and business from $5,699.

Return economy fares from Sydney to Los Angeles are being offered from $1,199, while Sydney to Vancouver is from $1,599, Sydney to New York JFK is from $1,699 and Sydney to Santiago is from $1,999.

Business return fares are available from Sydney to Los Angeles from $7,599 and Sydney to New York JFK from $8,699.

The sale covers travel periods between October and next June, with the sale coming to end at 11.59pm on September 9, unless sold out prior.

‘Never done before’: Aussie island’s big move

Up to 50,000 fares to the US have been slashed with the launch of a brand new direct flight.

Fares have been discounted across Qantas from Tuesday after the Flying Kangaroo launched a seven day North and South America Red Tail Sale.Economy return flights between Sydney and Los Angeles begin at $1,199, while other economy fares include Sydney to Vancouver ($1,599), Sydney to New York ($1,699), Sydney to Santiago ($1,999).

The sale launches on Tuesday. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Ben Clark

The sale comes after Qantas announced direct flights from Melbourne to Honolulu in a move that will bring in 40,000 extra seats to Hawaii per year.

Economy return fares for the new flight route begins at $1,049, with flights set to take off three times per week with an Airbus A330 aircraft from early May 2025.

Qantas chief executive officer international Cam Wallace said he’s “thrilled” to announce the direct flights, which will bring a “new, tropical destination to our Melbourne customers”.

Travel periods for the sale fares begin from October 2024 to June 2025, with flights including checked baggage, complimentary food and beverages and seat selection.

To join, you have to be nominated by an existing member, pass a criminal record check, undergo a trial – and part with millions for a buy-in.

The chance to experience the “world’s biggest weekend”, including a crazy feature in the middle of the sea, left me astonished.

Surrounded by crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and queen-sized cabanas — you’d think you’re in a corner of Capri. But this new Aussie hotel has a game-changing ‘twist’.
