It was a fantastic experience. We travelled from Manchester Victoria to visit Kew Gardens and we travelled in the Chatsworth Carriage. We were well looked after by Barry, Asim and Darryl, the cuisine was excellent, the ambience superb and the overall setting was luxurious. We had a table for two, but it was great to chat with the other travellers on the table for four opposite us. We will definitely consider the Northern Belle again in 2025.

This day out can only be described as unforgettable for all the best reasons. We boarded the train at Stafford at 0815 and returned at 2130. What a day. From the first to the last moment on the train everything was outstanding. Particularly the staff in our carriage (Harlech), working in intense heat due to it being the hottest day of the year, they were superb. Even cool towels for us all when we boarded for the return journey. How food of such a high standard can be served on a train can only be admired and applauded. Kew Gardens was also a great place to visit despite the heat. Finally, we were on a table of four, sitting with two really lovely ladies who were such good company throughout a long day.

Amazing experience going to Ladies' Day at Royal Ascot. The trip was as close to perfection as I've ever experienced. The brilliant staff on the train were so professional but also warm, friendly and fun. The food was sublime and attention to detail was like from a bygone day. Thanks to Asim, Joe, Katie and Chloe for so much attention and for creating for us an unforgettable journey!

We had an incredible day travelling on the Northern Belle to Ascot Ladies day. We boarded at Birmingham International and from start to finish had a fantastic experience. Thanks to Barry the team in Chatsworth carriage. Food, service and ambiance were amazing. A special mention to Zaina our drinks attendant . She oozes personality and we thought she was an incredible asset to the team. We will definitely be booking more trip 🚂

Absolutely excellent from start to finish. Silver service treatment with fabulous food. Staff extremely friendly, couldn't do enough to make your trip a memorable experience. We would definitely recommend booking this trip if you have a special occasion to celebrate

An exceptional day out on the Northern Belle with my sister. Staff were exceptional - Phil, Lucy and Tom in Belvoir carriage. Food was Michelin worthy, Plenty of food throughout the day/evening. Drinks a plenty, excursion to Chatsworth House was so well organised. Met some lovely people. Had a fantastic day out. Would highly recommend. The sun shone for us too! Everyone was so kind and helpful.

Booked the trip to Chatsworth for my husbands 60th, and it didn’t disappoint, food was excellent, service was good. A really special day! Special mention for the Blini 😋 😋

We travelled yesterday on the Northern Belle from Manchester as a birthday celebration for the two of us. We were in the Chatsworth carriage and our team of three were Barry, Zaina and Freya who were all absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived at Victoria to the sound of a piper playing the bagpipes to shaking hands with Barry as we left, the day was absolutely perfect. The traditional train is lovely; the food could not be faulted; the timings were perfect and Britannia was so interesting. There was a table magician and a musical duo - all lovely people and such fun. It was simply the best day out and we would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Amazing experience on board the Northern Belle to Glamis Castle. We were in carriage Alnwick and our servers were Tom, Lucy and cannot remember the other girls name (sorry). Fantastic service and the food was amazing. We were on a table with another couple whom we had never met but had a brilliant day with them. Cannot fault it and would highly recommend.

I have been on many journeys now on this superb train since 2015 and this recent one was just as good as ever. I was in Harlech carriage and I must say that the service was second to none. All of the staff were super efficient and it was a truly very enjoyable and perfect day. I will be back at Christmas

We have been on the Northern Belle on a number of occasions mainly for Christmas Lunch, but also one Afternoon Tea trip. This was our first day trip travelling from Newcastle upon Tyne to Dundee to visit Glamis Castle. With travelling on the Northern Belle before we thought we knew what to expect but food, drink, service on board entertainment and tour of Glamis Castle exceeded even our expectations. Carriage as always was immaculate as was Crockery, Cutlery, Glassware and Table Linen. Its not a Cheap day trip, but it is worth every penny. We hope to have more day trips like this in future, and would recommend The Northern Belle to any potential customers who want a once in a lifetime treat. But beware you will want to repeat and keep on repeating this experience.

A fantastic trip on Northern Belle. The staff on board were friendly and attentive, the food was delicious and the journey exceeded our expectations. The train is very comfortable and it was great to just sit back and relax and be waited on. We were entertained by a magician in the morning and by the musicians at night. The trip to the Royal yacht well organised and a treat to have a tour of Edinburgh and hear about its history. All in all a memorable trip and i have no hesitation in recommending the Northern Belle to anyone who is looking for a memorable day out.

Wonderful trip from Birmingham to Settle & back on this luxury train.Beautiful carriage, incredible food, brilliant staff. Read/seen about how good this trip was, expected it to be brilliant , it exceeded my expectations. The whole experience made ever greater by being pulled by a steam train. A truly amazing day.

From Telford to Carlisle via the Ribblehead viaduct and back, we had a fabulous time. We could not fault the food or the service, which was five stars. The scenery was to die for, helped by all day sun, and we enjoyed time in Carlisle to look around the Cathedral. The magician was entertainingly ham, and the musicians did a great double happy birthday, but what made the trip for us was the happenstance of being seated next to a lively and lovely German couple, who were shooting a YouTube video. Lots of laughs, and you can catch it on their two Germans in Britain Channel.

My husband booked the Northern Belle to celebrate my 60th birthday. We boarded at Liverpool Lime Street for our onward journey to Carlisle (Settle & Carlisle Steam Special). From the moment we were greeted by staff at the door to our carriage for the day (Glamis), a birthday card was waiting on the table from the Glamis staff (Debbie, Asim & Jo), our table was beautifully ‘dressed’, the food was perfectly cooked & presented until we arrived back at Liverpool, the day couldn’t have been more perfect. Nothing was too much trouble & we would like our thanks to be passed on to Debbie, Asim, Jo & to the chef & team for making my 60th celebration a truly memorable & unforgetable day.

Boarded the Northern Belle at Wakefield for a full days outing to Carlisle and what a fabulous experience it was from start to finish. The food and service were first class, we were in the Chatsworth carriage and our stewards Barry and Zayna looked after us impeccably with enthusiasm, grace and humour. The cost of the trip may seem expensive but when a full 12 hours experience is factored in with a 3 course brunch, 6 course dinner, champagne, wine and port included along with a magician, a band and the luxurious experience, it all makes for a wonderful memory. Can highly recommend.

Special birthday treat for my husband we went to The Cheltenham Gold Cup on the Northern Belle. It really is luxury travel and we were looked after extremely well by the staff always with a smile and nothing was too much travel. My husband was chuffed to receive a birthday card from them as well which was a lovely touch. The food is second to none and the tartlet “Arnold Bennett” was delicious melted in the mouth thank you chef. The ongoing travel into Cheltenham race course was well orchestrated and the staff on the steam train and at the station also looked after us very well. The five course dinner on our journey back was just a delight I particularly enjoyed the shin suet pudding and the beef. I wanted my husband to enjoy his day and he loved every minute of the experience and hasn’t stopped talking about it.

What an unforgettable and amazing experience for my birthday! Genuinely one of the best things I’ve ever done. From start to finish the day was PERFECT! The most wonderful staff, fantastic food, entertainment, everything just stunningly beautiful. Anyone considering doing a trip, DO IT! It’s a must! We had the spirit of travel luncheon and upgraded to a couples table and Laurent Perrier package, it was worth every single penny. We will definitely be back to do another one!

We were greeted by the most friendly and amazing smile, from the moment we got on board, the staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction, the welcoming atmosphere and attentive staff made the day very pleasant. The menu offered a delightful array of dishes, each expertly crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Every bite was a culinary delight. My dining experience was truly exceptional. and I can’t wait to return. The luxurious train, coupled with exceptional service, made our day truly memorable Highly recommended!

Absolutely fantastic this Christmas trip is a must the best experience you can give someone the staff are absolutely lovely the food amazing could not fault this at all.

The Christmas Festive Lunch journey from Liverpool to Holyhead was great. We were in the Glamis carriage and the decor was lovely. The food was delicious and the porn star martini was very good. We were serenaded by songs and there was also a magician going from table to table. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

First trip in 4 years and just as good as ever, if not better - superb, friendly attentive service attending to our every need in that wonderful atmosphere only found on the Northern Belle and the entertainment too from the singing duo and magician at the table. All four of us had a great day out from Carlisle to Dundee - topped off by a tour of Glamis Castle.

Fabulous excursion from Darlington to Edinburgh made an excellent experience by being hauled by Flying Scotsman to mark its Centenary. Absolutely faultless service, food, and organisation. The preparation and presentation of the carriage (Duart) was superb and was regularly maintained throughout the return journey. Nothing was too much trouble for the hardworking staff who cannot be praised highly enough. Main meal of beef was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. Absolutely recommended to anyone. A wonderful day.

We did the Flying Scotsman centenary special journey - from York to Edinburgh. What a wonderful day! The superb, efficient team worked hard to make our day memorable. The luxurious carriages and excellent food and beverages added to the glamour of the day. I’d recommend one of the Northern Belle journeys to anyone wanting this kind of special day out.

What an absolutely wonderful experience. A perfect day with friends spent being served outstanding food and drink by kind, attentive staff whilst relaxing in luxurious surroundings. The whole experience ran like clockwork and will be fondly remembered.

A new luxury sleeper train is coming to the UK in 2025

The new Britannic Explorer will take guests on an unforgettable journey through the Cornwall, the Lake District, and Wales

Not only are trains one of the most sustainable and scenic ways to travel, but they're fast becoming the most glamorous, too – and it's all thanks to Belmond . In recent years, the renowned hospitality brand has put its signature, ultra-luxury spin on such legendary locomotives as the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express , Andean Explorer and British Pullman , and in doing so single-handedly put old-world, epic rail journeys back on the agenda as a bucket-list adventure.

The brand's latest launch, however, is set to take the train travel trend to a whole new level. Debuting in July 2025, the Belmond Britannic Explorer will be the first luxury sleeper train in England and Wales , embarking on unforgettable journeys through the country's most spectacular landscapes – and in serious style.

Think fine dining courtesy of multi-Michelin-star chef Simon Rogan, an on-board spa, a botanics-inspired bar, lavish parties, entertainment aplenty, opulent cabin suites to retire to by night, and front-row seats to Britain's most beautiful scenery.

Guests can choose from three picturesque routes through Cornwall, the Lake District , or Wales, each departing from London Victoria, lasting three wonderful nights, and bringing Britain's beauty to life in the most evocative way possible.

There's much fun to be had off the tracks, too: as part of the journey, guests can enjoy immersive excursions to some of the country's most iconic destinations, from private art gallery tours to guided hikes , wild swimming and foraging experiences. A new luxury train, complete with fine dining, plush double beds and spa treatments, will whisk travellers out of London and through the British countryside.

Known for its popular luxury sleeper train the Royal Scotsman, which winds through the Scottish Highlands, hospitality operator Belmond has now unveiled a new sleeper that will journey through England and Wales : the Britannic Explorer.

With its 18 cabins, including a grand suite, doubles and twin, guests will be travel from the capital to three different locations, from a choice of Cornwall , the Lake District and Wales, on three-night journeys aimed at paying homage to the British tradition of touring and celebrating the art of slow travel.

Passengers on the Britannic Explorer can take optional off-train guided excursions to immerse themselves in each destination’s natural landscapes, cultural offerings and history.

They include a private tour and dinner at the Hauser & Wirth gallery and on-site restaurant Da Costa in Somerset, guided hikes through Wales, wild swimming in the Lake District and a visit to Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens in Cornwall.

On board guests will indulge in British gastronomy designed by Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan as the hills roll by.

Rogan’s fine dining menu will feature locally sourced ingredients, in line with his British farm-to-fork movement, with each of the three routes featuring bespoke afternoon tea, lunch and dinner menus.

Speaking about the collaboration with the luxury sleeper, Rogan said: “I am very excited to bring this approach to the launch of the Britannic Explorer, where each plate will reflect Britain’s diverse landscapes.

“I hope every passenger not only enjoys the flavours but also feels a connection between the dishes and the journey, making their time on board truly memorable.”

Passengers will also have access to the train’s botanically-inspired bar in their observation car for a cocktail or a craft beer, or perhaps relax while receiving a treatment or two in the train’s onboard spa room.

The luxury train’s all-British experience extends into the interiors of the train, with designs and colour palettes taking inspiration from the countryside and coastlines, with heritage motifs dotted throughout.

Gary Franklin, vice president of trains and cruises at Belmond, said: "I am incredibly proud to launch this revolutionary new train, which further enhances Belmond’s global portfolio of market-leading luxury rail experiences.

“The Britannic Explorer offers something truly unique; an opportunity to discover the rugged Cornish coastline to Snowdonia’s untamed National Park and the vast expanses of the Lake District like never before.

“We are especially delighted to welcome the esteemed Chef Simon Rogan to helm the culinary direction. His vision brings a gastronomic journey that complements the train’s spirit of adventure, celebrating British produce and highlighting the finest local specialities along the route.”

Starting its travels across the country in July 2025, the Cornwall and Lake District routes will run from Friday to Monday, while the Wales route will run from Monday to Thursday.

A trip aboard the Britannic Explorer in a double cabin starts from £11,000, including a three-night itinerary, excursions, meals, wine and other alcoholic beverages on board.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express , the Royal Scotsman, the Andean Explorer – travellers have dreamt of climbing aboard the world's best sleeper trains for well over a century. Sleeper trains have long been hailed as the epitome of glamorous travel – so when word that the first luxury sleeper train through England and Wales will launch in 2025 reached our editors, it quickly rose to the top of our list of exciting travel news for next year.

Belmond, the name behind some of the world’s top train journeys (including those wistfully namechecked above), has announced today that it will launch The Britannic Explorer in July 2025. Travellers will select their itinerary from four epic routes: via Cornwall, The Lake District, Northumberland or Wales. Each journey will span three nights, allowing ample time to soak up the wild beauty out the windows while enjoying the luxurious offerings inside – think old-school glamour with distinctly British flair.

In the UK, after all, the allure of sleeper trains is deeply entwined with the romance and charm of travel’s Golden Age . Two legendary sleeper trains, the Caledonian Sleeper and the Royal Scotsman, take travellers between England and Scotland , past rugged Munros, twinkling lochs and vast expanses of the British countryside. One-day excursions are equally sought-after, with travellers eager to climb aboard the British Pullman or the Snowdon Mountain Railway to watch England’s bucolic scenes float by.

Further afield, we collectively romanticise the idea of zooming across the Italian countryside on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, weaving through the sprawling cities of Japan on the Seven Stars Kyushu or zipping by dramatic Peruvian landscapes on the Andean Explorer, all the while feasting on world-class food and kicking back in the most luxurious cabins.

On the Brittanic Explorer, which will depart from London, guests can choose cultural or gastronomic experiences on each of the routes – think a private tour and supper at Hauser & Wirth in Somerset, guided hikes through the Welsh hinterlands, wild swimming tours in the Lake District or a stop-off at two Michelin-starred restaurants and hotel, Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons . After a day exploring, guests hop back on board to relax in the Observation car, a botanic-themed bar inspired by Britain’s flora and fauna, or book in for a treatment in the wellness suite.

The train’s interiors were designed by a London-based studio, Albion Nord, with intricate detail and charming touches based on British nature. Alongside the bar, restaurant carts and wellness suite, there are 18 cabins, including three Grand Suites. For the train’s food offering, Belmond has collaborated with Simon Rogan – the chef behind three Michelin-starred L’Enclume in Cumbria and one Michelin-starred Aulis in London. Each route has dedicated menus inspired by the region the train moves through, using local ingredients and a farm-to-fork ethos to showcase the best of British cuisine.

The new train comes at a pivotal moment for slow travel, as the rise of sustainable, green, quiet travel continues into 2025. Prices for a three-night stay on the Britannic Explorer start from $14,000 based on a double cabin and include excursions, meals, wine and alcoholic beverages on board.

A NEW luxury train service with an on-board spa, private cabins and other lavish touches is set to launch in the UK next year.

The Britannic Explorer will be the first luxury sleeper train in England and Wales by the hospitality and leisure company Belmond.

Brit holidaymakers will know Belmond as the luxury train operator behind the British Pullman , the Royal Scotsman and the Orient Express .

A statement on the Belmond website reads : "See Britain through new eyes aboard the first ever luxury sleeper train in England and Wales.

"Paying homage to the Great British tradition of touring, the Britannic Explorer celebrates the art of slow travel, preserving Britain’s pioneering railway history while ushering in a new era of culture and creativity."

Train journeys will launch in July, 2025, with services departing from London .

Holidaymakers can choose from three routes, including the Lake District , Cornwall and Wales.

One each route, passengers can explore some of the UK's prettiest destinations like St Ives in Penzance , Haverfordwest and Porthmadog in Wales and Ribblehead Viaduct in the Lakes.

Curator-led tours of art galleries, foraging experiences and wild swimming excursions will also be organised for passengers.

The l uxurious locomotive will have 18 private cabins, including three grand suites, double suites and twin suites.

Each of the grand suites will feature a double bed, a marble dining room, an en-suite bathroom with a marble basin and shower cubicle and a personal butler.

Meanwhile, the double suites, which have been decorated with a green colour scheme, will have a double bed, an en-suite bathroom , and a fold out table and stool.

Lastly, the twin suites have twin beds with an en-suite bathroom and a fold-out table and stool.

The twin suites will also feature artwork by English artist and designer Luke Edward Hall.

On-board dining on the Britannic Explorer has been described as a "moveable feast" by the luxury travel brand.

The food menu has been designed by chef Simon Rogan, owner of L’Enclume, a restaurant in the Lake District that holds three-Michelin stars.

Each train journey includes lunch, dinner and an afternoon tea, with meals served in the Dining Car.

Alternatively passengers can unwind in the Observation Car that features a bar where cocktails, gins and craft beers are served.

The luxury sleeper train will also have an on-board spa where passengers can book massages and facials.

Tickets for three-night stays start from £5,800 per passenger for a twin suites, with six-night stays start from £11,600 person for the same cabin.

At the end of last year, the  Royal Scotsman  in Scotland was named one of the best train journeys in the world by Conde Nast Traveler.

The Scottish train made the list thanks to its indulgent and intimate atmosphere.

Another fancy train journey in the  UK is the four-night Welsh Dragon holiday, run by Steam Dreams Rail Co.

Travelling from London Paddington through  Wales , there is an onboard bar as well as a dining car with a specially made menu.

Starting from £995pp, the steam train trip is set to run this September.

Belmond Is Launching the First-ever Luxury Sleeper Train in England and Wales — What to Know

Fans of the slow travel movement can embark upon a choice of railway routes around England and Wales next summer.

Fans of the slow travel movement can embark upon a choice of railway routes around England and Wales next summer, as Belmond adds a brand new luxury sleeper service to its portfolio.

To mark the 200th anniversary of the world’s first passenger rail journey, the Britannic Explorer, a Belmond Train, offers passengers a choice of three itineraries, each of which departs from London on three-night journeys to Cornwall, the Lake District, and Wales.

During the day passengers will have a choice of off-train guided excursions that include private wine workshops, castle tours, and wild swimming. Depending on the itinerary, some journeys will also include a black-tie dinner at Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire or a 30-course tasting menu at the two Michelin star restaurant, Ynyshir , in Wales.

The Britannic Explorer can accommodate 36 guests across 15 suites and three grand suites designed by the London-based studio, Albion Nord. Inspired by the interiors and gardens of British stately homes, they contain oak paneling and soft furnishings in sage green and blush pink to reflect the British landscape through which the train passes. Each grand suite is named after a British botanical: Valerian, Juniper, and Elder.

This botanical theme continues in the bar car, where cocktails play on the quirks of Victorian apothecaries’ herbs and florals.

Chef Simon Rogan will oversee two dining cars, focusing on his signature style: using seasonal organic ingredients, much of which will be sourced from his own farm in the Lake District. Menus will incorporate local suppliers along the routes with the aim of bringing the heritage and culinary history of the routes from the journey to the table.

Inaugural journeys are slated for July 2025. The Britannic Explorer starts from £11,000 (about $14,200) based on a double cabin and includes a three-night itinerary, excursions, meals, wine, and alcoholic beverages on board.

This Morning's Alison Hammond discusses relationship with new boyfriend for first time

"You met my boyfriend before anybody else knew about it."

This Morning presenter Alison Hammond has discussed her relationship with her new partner for the first time.

The Great British Bake Off host has confirmed she is in a relationship , though the star keeps her romantic life private.

Discussing World Kindness Day on This Morning , Alison was moved to tears by a segment that saw her open up about her first date with her boyfriend for the first time.

Alongside co-host Cat Deeley , the duo spoke to members of the public about kind moments they had experienced.

One viewer, named Anita, spoke about meeting Alison during a Pullman train journey and praised the TV personality for making her "feel so special".

"My husband was the guard [on the train], and I had been invited on because I had just finished chemo and radiotherapy," Anita explained to the hosts.

"You never rushed me out, you asked me everything I'd gone through, how much weight I'd lost."

Alison recalled meeting Anita, saying the viewer came into her cabin area during the train ride.

Anita continued: "Alison, I know you're from the Midlands, we're such special people. We've always got a smile and a kind word.

"I'm like yourself, I'm kind, but sometimes you do get hurt being kind. But you, Alison, I can't tell you what you did that day."

Alison remarked on the kind thing that Anita had done without even knowing it - not remarking on who Alison was travelling with that day.

"Anita, what's lovely about you, you've haven't mentioned who I was with," she said.

"That was my very first date with my boyfriend. You met my boyfriend before anybody else knew about it."

Alison batted off engagement rumours earlier this year after being spotted wearing a sparkling ring while on the ITV show.

Speaking with co-host Dermot O'Leary during the show's showbiz section, Dermot pointed out that Alison had been wearing the ring on her wedding finger.

"It's just some cheap ring that I got from, probably Primark, one of those cheap rings. It's nice, isn't it?" she said.

"Let me swap it over, because we don't want those rumours going out there, do you know what I mean? Not just yet. Maybe one day, who knows."

A luxurious new train is coming to Britain – here’s what to expect

Fancy chugging through the glorious countryside, along some of the globe’s most spectacularly scenic stretches, all the while propped up by plush furnishings, and intermittently plied with excellent food and drink?

Such is the experience provided by heritage rail company Belmond , which operates six of the world’s most ludicrously luxurious trains – the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, the Eastern and Oriental Express, the Andean Explorer, the Hiram Bingham, Royal Scotsman and the British Pullman. These trains pamper their passengers while forging through the likes of Peru, Scotland and Malaysia – and soon, there will be a seventh member of this exclusive club.

Enter the Britannic Explorer – due to join the Belmond fleet in July 2025 – a luxury hotel cruise train which will travel through some of the most magnificent landscapes in England and Wales. Until now, the new arrival has been a closely guarded secret – but last week, I was allowed a sneak peek inside: and believe me when I say, the latest addition to the Belmond set does not disappoint.

The 11 coaches were formerly used by the Grand Hibernian train (which ran in Ireland between 2016 and 2021), but have been given a complete makeover, transformed by London design practice Albion Nord with a design ethos inspired by the natural world.

Let’s start with the Observation Car, which – with its bar, armchairs and banquettes – will be the train’s social hub. The bar’s backlit amber glass discs, which were inspired by “the timeless charm of Victorian apothecaries”, cast a golden glow by night.

Meanwhile, the design theme of the two dining cars – Malva and Samphire – is the cultivation of herbs and flowers used in British cooking, with woven rattan panels, antique mirrored ceilings and floral lights. There is also a plush wellness suite that will host daily activities, with aestheticians and massage therapists on hand to provide a detox.

Then there are the cabins – 18 of them in total, providing two types of en-suite accommodation that is all about timeless elegance. The Suites (of which there are 15) feature wallpaper designed by Luke Edward Hall (whose designs also grace the walls of Hotel Les Deux Gares in Paris), with staff transforming cabin day beds into double or twin beds while passengers enjoy their evening meal in the dining car.

The larger Grand Suites, meanwhile – of which there are three – have separate sitting rooms (with a sofa, small marble table and chair), and are named after the botanicals juniper, valerian and elder, their colours influencing the decorative schemes. Unusually for a railway carriage interior, the oak panelling has been left natural or given a matte finish, which gives a lighter, airy feel.

Fine dining has become a crucial part of any luxury rail offering in recent years and the Britannic Explorer is no exception. Here, direction of fare has been entrusted to chef Simon Rogan, who has championed the use of organic food in the three-Michelin-starred L’Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria, which he opened in 2002. Produce will come from his Lake District farm, its quality helping to fulfil his culinary quest to enable diners “to taste every single element of each dish”. Menus will reflect local specialities, and there will be a nod to local artisan suppliers en route.

Trains will depart from London Victoria on three easily combined itineraries to provide what is billed as “a window on modern Britain”. There will be two Monday-to-Friday routes, to Cornwall and to the Lake District, and a Monday-to-Thursday wander through Wales.

The Cornwall tour travels the delightful stretches of line beside the sea in Devon and Cornwall, with off-train excursions to Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens near Penzance for a guided tour of the gardens, art gallery and a wine tasting; an after-hours tour of the Hauser and Wirth Gallery and garden in Somerset; and guided tours of St Ives and Fowey.

Guests on the Welsh tour reach Haverfordwest near the Pembrokeshire coast before returning to Llanelli, and a journey over the glorious Central Wales line through rugged mountain scenery and a succession of former Victorian watering spas.

From Shrewsbury, the tour heads west for one of the longest stretches of railway beside the sea in Britain, between Dovey Junction and Porthmadog, over the spectacularly sited wooden bridge across the estuary of the river Mawddach. Off-train entertainments include an evening party in a Cotswold pub, a guided hike, and a dive into Machynlleth’s food scene.

The Lake District tour heads north to Leeds and Carnforth – the filming location of Brief Encounter , and junction for the Cumbrian Coast line that skirts the west side of the Lake District, with frequent stretches beside the sea. Before reaching the border city of Carlisle, there is an excursion on Derwentwater and exclusive access to one of the private quarters of the Lingholm Estate where Beatrix Potter spent more than 20 summer holidays.

From Carlisle, the train takes England’s most scenic railway, the Settle-Carlisle, south across Ribblehead Viaduct to Leeds. On the return through the eastern Cotswolds, the Britannic Explorer offers an exclusive stop at the two-Michelin-starred manor house hotel and restaurant Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, in Oxfordshire.
