Cruising the river

This is a new experience of the St Charles county area and bound to be a popular active especially when it moors out in Augusta next year. We went on a lunch cruise and the boat was fantastic and a nice ride getting to see parts of the river and area you normally don’t see. The boat has 2full bars, and the offer bottled wine from Augusta wineries, open deck seating which will be great during warmer weather. The lunch was mediocre at best , tomato soup, sandwich , cold pasta salad and a cookie. I recommend not choosing the lunch package and instead book the cruise and order an appetizer from the bar they looked so much better. The cruise is an hour and 1/2 in total .

Thank you for your review and coming to check us out in St. Charles. NOTE: This review is for a boat in Missouri, this is not for Miss Naples in Florida. This is a dinner yacht boat. We do appreciate your business very much and hope to welcome you and have you try a dinner cruise when we get to Augusta!

Hubby and I went here for a dinner date to celebrate our anniversary. We caught the tour bus from the Augusta Winery to the boat dock. It was a great price for a dinner and a cruise. We made the reservation online and we knew what the meal was. They don't have a menu other than for drinks, but it's a good system imo because it allows the chef to focus on one entree. Overall, to not be too wordy, our food was delicious, the service was awesome, and it was just a nice relaxing ride.

I'm rate this experience a 3 nice and simple If it's no more then 100 people on the boat it's just right. Not to big and not that fancy. Now I bet on the Hollidays it looks pretty die to the decor they would put up. We went as a group of 16 on this rainy day. It's a rain or shine event and no refunds, but you can reschedule. Our group chose the lunch cruise. We had the lunch which was a nice an simple salad with honey mustard dressing and a roll. Air flight. chicken with mash the chicken cut nicely but needed to be a little juicer. However the leek sauce served with it was needed. The simple dessert was given as a nice berry tart. Also, this place is not handicap accessible. So i guess this steep ramp you have to go down is okay? Nope not when you have parents with bad knees or in a wheelchair. Please go see for yourself before you book your ticket because if they say it is, then what I have in mind is a total different perspective.

just the muddy Mississippi river Im sure it's different when the sun is out

October, 2022 visit Great cruise - friendly staff, good food, fun on the river with friends - - - - - - - - We'd been wanting to enjoy a cruise on the Miss Augusta since we first heard of the announcement of the ship. My wonderful wife coordinated two of us couples enjoying a fine lunch cruise a couple weeks ago. - - - - - - - - Getting There We purchased our tickets online and followed the guidance to arrive at the Mount Pleasant Winery, where we boarded the motor coach to the Klondike Boat Dock (don't park at the dock; you can't board there - go to Mt. Pleasant). The motor coach drops you off a few steps from the boat ramp. - - - - - - - - Boarding The Saturday we floated was a beautiful day, before we received some much-needed rain. The Missouri River was low; approximately 9-10 feet; the Miss Augusta drafts about 5 feet, so we had plenty of clearance. Due to the low water level, the upper deck was almost even with the shoreline... which made for a slight downward incline of the plank, which provided no problem for boarding. - - - - - - - - All Have A View The Miss Augusta can apparently hold ~150 passengers, and as best we can tell every seat will have a view; some seats next to the window, others with clear views out the windows. - - - - - - - - Food The food... for this lunch cruise we enjoyed - Caesar salad - pork tenderloin with apple chutney and vegetables - whipped cheese cake for dessert all very well prepared - thank you, chef! Wine and other drinks are available at the bar for an additional cost... my wife and I enjoyed an Augusta Norton. Friends enjoyed a mixed drink and beer. - - - - - - - - The Scenery The cruise, at least this day, was downriver then back up. The scenery is so nice from the river, with the hillsides and the manmade dykes and rock jetties projecting into the river to control the water's flow. The Captain guided the ship so smoothly that we barely noticed the movement... the scenery nice glided past the windows. - - - - - - - - The upper deck is open to the sky, which is great for sightseeing. - - - - - - - - We had a great afternoon and are thankful for the Hoffmann Family and the crew for providing such a nice afternoon. We look forward to cruising again. Thank you, Miss Augusta crew! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The cruise was nice. Overall I recommend it and I would do it again but it would just be Hors d'oeuvres and drinks. We did the dinner cruise. Parked at Montelle winery in the overflow parking. The signage was good. It is the ambiance. My only issue was they opened the bar but couldn't buy appetizers. I think food + alcohol is a no brainer. Maybe a little charcuterie or bread and butter at the table (and better than the generic Hawaiian bread we had). Drinks were expensive but not extraordinary. Probably best to just buy a bottle of wine, you are getting MO wines and everything that implies. It's dinner time people are hungry, actually some people were downright hangry by the time they received food. There were a lot of people not pleased. The staff are phenomenal and they want you to have an amazing time. My review has nothing to do with them and everything to do with the quality of the meal. We went to Annie Gunn's afterwards. Just saying. It's fun, do it. But the food is Economy plus not business and yes I'm referring to airplane food. If you are going know this and plan accordingly!

My brother bought us this experience as my Christmas gift and it was SO awesome! We all met at Augusta Winery parking lot and rode the charter bus to the boat ramp (if that's the correct terminology). Once we arrived, we learned that Mother Nature wasn't on our side, as the river was super low and the boat was stuck in mud. We were bummed, however we were still able to experience the boat, drinks, good, and amazing company. We were given vouchers to come back and get the full experience, which was very much appreciated. Our table was near the window by the bar, and it was perfect for 5 people. We started out with drinks and we got a bottle of the Norton Reserve from Augusta Winery (love that they use locally sourced beverages-- it IS Augusta!). It's one of my favorite wines and I was so happy they had it! Food came next, and we started with a salad and roll, the salad was a good combo of flavors, loved the fried onions on top! Next we had the entree, which was salmon, prime rib, masked potatoes, and vegetables. Everything wAs INCREDIBLE! The prime rib was cooked perfectly and not overdone, and the salmon was flaky and flavorful. For dessert we had an apple caramel tart. I'm not a huge apple in dessert gal, but it was warm and gooey and I enjoyed it. After the ride there was time for music and mingling. They had a live DJ which was an awesome touch. During the meal, he played Christmas carols. After the meal, he played some dancing music, which some people really took to the next level. It was so fun and we're so excited to go back and use our vouchers!

Definitely recommend. Compared to other dinner cruises that I have done, this had thee best food. Tender and well seasoned roast beef with gravy. Really enjoyed the Caesar salad with egg. The drinks were tasty and the service was great. Nice scenic drive to/from boat ramp. Cruise scenery is ok for the area. Very nice for bird watching.

What an amazing party we were invited to last night! Not only was the ambiance terrific, the food and service could not have been better. The waitress and waiter were more than cordial and very pleasant to talk to. Our dishes were removed as soon as we finished eating - perfect timing. The taco bar was delicious. What a beautiful evening! Can't wait to go again!

My family went on the Thanksgiving Dinner Cruise. A group of nine, last year we were placed together, but this year they split us in to two tables. Not great for a family holiday! When I asked, they said they only had 4-top and 6-top tables. (There was a larger group seated together this year). Just beware if you would like your party seated together! The food was okay, but not as good as last year!

This is a new experience for St.Charles County and sure it be a very popular attraction once it is moored in Augusta. The yacht is beautiful and staff is friendly and attentive making for a nice tour. We went on the lunch cruise and next time I will choose juts the cruise and purchase appetizers from the bar because they looked better than the lunch we received.Lunch wad tomato soup, sandwich or wrap, pasta salad and a cookie. They have 2 full bars and also offer bottles of wine from Augusta wineries. This is 2 hour event from boarding time until return to dock and once out in Augusta the scenery will make every cruise a wonderful experience.

Miss augusta luxury yacht to set sail from augusta, mo this fall.

The newest addition to Missouri Wine Country will soon be the Miss Augusta, a 96-foot luxury yacht offering sightseeing tours, private events, and a connection to the area by water come Fall 2021, all part of the massive $100 million investment by the Hoffmanns into the Augusta region.

In a scheduled meeting with St. Charles County on Monday evening, the County Council unanimously approved a joint project to expand and build an additional 120 feet of dock space for use at the Klondike Park Boat Ramp just 3 miles East of Augusta on highway 94. The county will maintain ownership of the dock and the Hoffmann Family of Companies will pay a per person fee to the county parks department for usage. Offsite parking will be established to not impede on the usage of the boat ramp. The existing network of trolleys put in place by the Hoffmanns will shuttle patrons from parking to the boat dock and then into the town and wineries.

Proposed plans for a paddle boat and dock are still in the works in Washington, MO which would offer tours and transportation to and from Washington to Augusta, criss-crossing with the Miss Augusta on the Missouri River with a possibility of going up to St. Charles as well. “Augusta and St. Charles are so based on the waterfront, that’s how the area was built. So, it’s really exciting to showcase that portion. There’s nothing on the water right now, so you’ll be able to take tours up and down to Washington and to St. Charles and back. We’re just really excited to showcase the area,” says Jenny Gezella, President of the Naples Princess and head of boating operations for the Hoffmann Family of Companies.

The Hoffmanns are no strangers to operating on the water. In total, the Hoffmann Family of Companies operates 9 boats and 11 operations throughout the United States from Washington State and California to Wisconsin, Tennessee and Florida. “It’s going to bring a whole new way to see and experience Missouri wine country. We can’t wait to start cruising the river and offering our wines on board,” said David Hoffmann, founder Hoffmann Family of Companies. The Miss Augusta intends to start operations this fall with the goal of its first cruise before the winter.

The Best Mississippi River Cruises to Discover America's Heartland

By Jackie Sheckler Finch

Image may contain Boat Transportation Vehicle Land Nature Outdoors Plant Vegetation Tree Woodland and Water

The luxury ships and historic tours are nice, yes. But the real star of Mississippi River cruises has always been the river. There’s nothing quite so Americana as getting to know the many personalities of this 2,350-mile stretch, flowing from northern Minnesota’s Lake Itasca through 10 states until it reaches Louisiana , where the Mississippi River Delta gives way to the Gulf of Mexico.

The slow, meandering journeys of Mississippi River cruises have long proven an ideal way to discover the distinct stories of America’s heartland. In the words of Mark Twain (which no Mississippi River story would be complete without), the towns and cities located on the mighty river's shores are “cheering to the spirit” and “reposeful as a dreamland,” with “nothing to hang a fret or a worry upon.”

The challenge modern travelers now face is when, where, and how to go about this iconic American voyage . Below, see our answers to these frequently asked questions, plus our favorite Mississippi River cruises to book in 2024.

Which cruise lines do Mississippi River cruises?

After American Queen Voyages shut down in February, only two Mississippi River cruise lines currently remain in operation.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, American Cruise Lines (ACL) has a fleet of more than 20 American-built ships sailing across the country and remains family-owned and American-crewed. ACL offers a Mississippi River fleet of three luxurious 180-passenger modern riverboats– American Melody , American Symphony , and American Serenade —plus two classic paddlewheel ships, the 180-passenger American Splendor and the 150-passenger American Heritage.

The new kid on the Mississippi is the Viking Mississippi, a 386-passenger, five-deck vessel that first set sail in September 2022. The cutting-edge cruise is Viking’s first foray in the US, adding to their fleet of more than 90 ocean, river, and expedition vessels navigating the world’s seven continents.

What is the average cost of a Mississippi River cruise?

For an 8- or 9-day cruise, the average cost of a Mississippi River cruise is around $4,000 per person in a stateroom. Although prices might seem high initially, many of these cruises include extras that aren’t always complimentary on ocean cruises such as free WiFi, at least one free shore excursion in every port, paid port taxes and fees, and a pre-cruise hotel stay. Viking offers complimentary beer, wine, and soft drinks with onboard lunch and dinner. Meanwhile, American Cruise Lines offers complimentary beer, wine, cocktails, and soft drinks. Gratuities are also included in American Cruise Lines fares.

What is the best time of year to go on a river cruise?

Spring (late March through mid-June) and autumn (September through November) are the best times of year to go on a river cruise in the US. Spring blossoms add a colorful touch to the shoreline, and you can never go wrong with autumn foliage. The temperatures are mild, if not pleasantly cool, and passengers are eager to welcome a new spring travel season—or to enjoy one last autumn river adventure before winter arrives.

What month is best for a Mississippi River cruise?

If we had to pick just one, September is the best month for a Mississippi River cruise. The weather is usually mild with less likelihood of rain, and autumn colors are beginning to paint the shoreline. Keep in mind, however, that the Mississippi is the fourth largest river in the world—so temperatures any time of year are not going to be the same in warmer Louisiana as they are in cooler Minnesota.

Below, see our favorite Mississippi River cruises to book in 2024, featuring stops in iconic American cities like Nashville , Memphis , and New Orleans .

22-day Mississippi River Odyssey: New Orleans to Red Wing, Minnesota

Enjoy the charms of America’s great river on a journey aboard the Viking Mississippi from New Orleans to Red Wing, departing September 20. Custom built to sail American waters, the vessel features river-facing staterooms with either French or step-out balconies.

Stops include Baton Rouge and St. Francisville in Louisiana; Natchez, Vicksburg, Greenville, and Rosedale in Mississippi; Memphis in Tennessee; Paducah in Kentucky; Cape Girardeau, St. Louis, and Hannibal in Missouri; Burlington, Quad Cities, and Dubuque in Iowa; La Crosse in Wisconsin; and ending in Red Wing, Minnesota.

With so many fascinating shore excursions to choose from, it’s well worth taking time to tour the St. Louis Arch . Opened in 1965, the monument to America’s westward expansion is far more than just a stunning photo by the riverside. Venture underground between the arch legs for a museum. Climb aboard a tram to be transported 630 feet up to the top of America’s tallest monument for some stunning views.

The 386-guest Viking Mississippi spans five decks, making it one of the largest passenger vessels on the Mississippi. Inaugurated in 2022, the ship features a modern Scandinavian design with an infinity pool and a two-story Explorers’ Lounge observation area similar to its ocean ships. Directly in front of the Explorer’s Lounge is an expanded outdoor seating area known as The Bow. Three restaurants serve both Southern regional cuisine and international favorites.

The cruise starts in Memphis on November 14 and includes stops in Rosedale, Greenville, Vicksburg, and Natchez in Mississippi as well as St. Francisville, Baton Rouge, and Darrow in Louisiana, ending in New Orleans. The “Mississippi Sings the Blues” shore excursion visits iconic sites along the Mississippi Blues Trail such as historic Dockery Farms, considered the “birthplace of the blues.”

The tour stops in Clarksdale, the fabled “Crossroads” where legend says blues great Robert Johnson reputedly sold his soul to the devil in exchange for his guitar prowess. Stops at the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi and the Delta Blues Museum completes this perfect trip for music lovers.

9-day Music Cities Cruise: Nashville to Memphis

Music is the main focus of this cruise offered by American Cruise Lines, which begins in Nashville on July 9 with an unforgettable visit to the legendary Grand Ole Opry and ends in Memphis, where passengers will enjoy live music on Beale Street and a tour of Elvis Presley’s Graceland . On board the American Splendor, passengers will enjoy spacious cabins and popular rocking chairs. First inaugurated in 2016 and fully redecorated in 2022, this ship offers the nostalgia of a classic paddlewheeler along with the comfort of modern amenities.

While in Nashville, explore the Johnny Cash Museum, then walk upstairs to The Patsy Cline Museum. Nightly entertainment spotlights the musical heritage of this region as the world’s newest paddlewheeler journeys along the river. The itinerary also includes Clarksville and Dover in Tennessee plus Paducah in Kentucky. In Paducah, stroll along the riverfront with more than 50 life-sized panoramic murals depicting Paducah’s past. Stop by Paducah’s National Quilt Museum, the world’s largest museum devoted to quilt and fiber art.

23-day Complete Mississippi River Cruise: New Orleans to St. Paul

Sail 1,393 miles through 10 states on a comprehensive exploration of the mighty Mississippi on the new American Serenade . Inaugurated in 2023, the 91-cabin American Serenade won Best New River Cruise Ship of the Year 2023 by Cruise Critic , the first time an American ship has received this prestigious award.

“With extra-large all-balcony staterooms and suites, trendy interior décor, an innovative hydraulic bow and retractable ramp, and one of the most gorgeous sun decks we’ve seen on a river-going ship, American Serenade sets the bar for domestic US river cruising high,” the award notes.

The epic itinerary beginning July 18, 2024 includes 22 ports of call including Oak Alley, Houmas House, Baton Rouge, and St. Francisville in Louisiana; Natchez, Vicksburg, Greenville, and Tunica in Mississippi; Memphis in Tennessee; Cape Girardeau, St. Louis, and Hannibal in Missouri; Muscatine and Dubuque in Iowa; and Winona, Red Wing, and Saint Paul in Minnesota.

12-day Mississippi River Gateway Cruise: New Orleans to St. Louis

From the French Quarter in New Orleans to the towering Gateway Arch in St. Louis , this American Heritage cruise lives up to its name. Inaugurated in 2015 and totally redecorated in 2022, the 84-cabin American Heritage is the perfect vessel for this interesting itinerary, its design reminiscent of the days when steamboat paddlewheelers plied the Mississippi in the 1800s.

The 12-day voyage departs from New Orleans on July 2. Ports of call along the way include Baton Rouge in Louisiana; Natchez and Vicksburg in Mississippi; Memphis in Tennessee; and Paducah in Kentucky . An onboard expert shares tales of the importance of steam-driven paddlewheels in establishing riverfront communities along the great Mississippi River.

Step ashore in Natchez and enjoy a cold drink at the Under-the-Hill-Saloon, once one of the rowdiest establishments on the Mississippi River in the 1800s. Legend says that Mark Twain stopped here when he was just another riverman named Samuel Clemens.

9-day Lower Mississippi River Cruise: Memphis to New Orleans

This nine-day American Melody cruise departs Memphis on September 8 and features eight ports of call including Vicksburg and Natchez in Mississippi, and St. Francisville, Baton Rouge, and Houmas House in Louisiana. At Vicksburg Military Park, learn how the 101st Airborne Division got its “Screaming Eagles” nickname, plus the tale of its famous soldier, a young guitar player named Jimi Hendrix. At Houmas House, see the bedroom where Bette Davis stayed to film the 1964 movie Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte . Joan Crawford was the intended co-star but Bette and Joan feuded so Joan quit and Olivia de Havilland replaced her.

Launched in 2021, the five-deck American Melody has 91 staterooms, all with private balconies and full-length sliding glass doors. The ship has several spacious lounges, a fitness center, large dining room, café for casual dining, sun deck, library, and an impressive four-story glass atrium in the center of the ship. The ship’s unusual bow opens and lowers a platform for passengers to easily walk ashore.

9-day Upper Mississippi River Cruise: St. Louis to St. Paul

Board the American Symphony cruise ship to visit Mark Twain’s hometown and experience the real-life inspiration behind Life on the Mississippi, the classic memoir chronicling the author's days on the river as a steamboat pilot.

The 91-cabin American Symphony, recently inaugurated in 2022, has 100% private balcony accommodations and a unique bow that opens with a retractable gangway that can be extended for landings virtually anywhere. The ship also features lounges soaring 40 feet above the water with triple the glass of other riverboats for spectacular views. Comfy deck chairs welcome passengers to enjoy the undeveloped countryside, picturesque islands, and fascinating dams and navigation locks.

Departing September 27, this itinerary features seven ports of call including Muscatine and Dubuque in Iowa, and Winona and Red Wing in Minnesota. In Hannibal, visit the actual home—with a whitewashed Tom Sawyer fence—where Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) grew up. In Dubuque, see the 1989 “Field of Dreams” movie site known for the famous quote, “If you build it, they will come.”

The Mediterranean Sea is one of the most popular cruise destinations for American travelers – and who could be surprised? With stunning beaches, historic landmarks, incredible cuisine, and more Mediterranean cruise itinerary options than ever, now is the time to plan a cruise to Europe. You’ll want to look for these 20 best ports on your itinerary as you sail the Mediterranean.

You may not recognize the name, but Civitavecchia is one of the busiest ports in Europe. What’s its appeal? It’s the gateway to the Eternal City of Rome; just an hour away, the capital of Italy is a perfect day trip destination for cruise passengers. Whether you spend the day wandering through the Vatican museums, eating pizza and gelato, or exploring the ancient Roman forum, a stop in Rome will be the highlight of your Italy cruise.

Civitavecchia, Italy

The port of Civitavecchia is the gateway to the Eternal City of Rome, the major appeal of this incredible Mediterranean port. Many Mediterranean cruises start in Civitavecchia, but even travelers with just a day to spend here can enjoy excursions such as a tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum, a walk through the charming neighborhood of Trastevere, or exploring the Vatican City in hopes of spotting La Pieta and the Sistine Chapel.

Barcelona is the busiest port city in Europe and one of the most desirable ports for travelers headed to the Mediterranean. The city’s cultural and culinary highlights are unending, ranging from the iconic Sagrada Familia to ultra-fresh paella in the neighborhood of Barceloneta. Smaller cruise ships dock just south of Las Ramblas and are walkable from town – we were in the heart of Barcelona after just a 5-minute walk from the berth of the luxury Windstar Star Legend – though larger ships dock just slightly further away and allow passengers to access town via a quick shuttle.

Barcelona, Spain

One of the busiest ports in the Mediterranean is also one of the most desirable ports for travelers headed to this part of Europe. Enjoy spending time in Barcelona trying churros and chocolate , sampling paella and tapas, exploring markets like La Boqueria, and visiting Gaudi masterpieces like Park Guell and La Sagrada Familia. Barcelona is also one of the most cities of embarkation for Mediterranean cruises.

The largest city on the Spanish island of Mallorca, Palma de Mallorca has plenty of cultural and historical attractions to keep cruise ship passengers busy for a day, including the city’s stunning cathedral. However, many visitors prefer a day at port in Palma de Mallorca to head to the lovely beaches that have made the island such a summer hotspot with Europe’s elite.

Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Palma de Mallorca is the capital city of the Spanish island of Mallorca and a gateway to enjoying one of the Mediterranean islands known as a summer hotspot for Europe’s elite. Many cruise passengers head off to enjoy a day on Mallorca’s beaches, though Palma de Mallorca has a beautiful cathedral, historic streets, and great local seafood dishes to enjoy as well.

Piraeus has little to offer on its own, though it’s a highlight on a Mediterranean cruise itinerary as the port city to access the capital of Athens, Greece. The best way to spend a day here? Take in the city views from the Parthenon before heading to the National Archaeological Museum, undoubtedly one of the world’s best museums for ancient history buffs.

Piraeus, Greece

Istanbul is a city spread over two continents, but it’s also a highlight on any Mediterranean cruise itinerary. Visitors will love exploring the winding alleyways in the Grand Bazaar as they shop for colorful light fixtures, local teas, and handmade Turkish rugs and visit famous spots like Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque.

Visitors will love exploring the winding alleyways in the Grand Bazaar as they shop for colorful light fixtures, local teas, and handmade Turkish rugs and visit famous spots like Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque.

Even if you’re not in town for the famous Formula One Grand Prix race, the independent city-state of Monaco is one of the most exciting cruise ports in the Mediterranean. While few ships dock directly in the port of Monaco – only smaller vessels with luxury cruise lines like Windstar Cruises can manage in this smaller port – many visitors head to Monaco from nearby port cities in France like Nice and Villefrance-Sur-Mer.

While few ships dock directly in the port of Monaco – only smaller vessels with luxury cruise lines like Windstar Cruises can manage in this smaller port – many visitors head to Monaco from nearby port cities in France like Nice and Villefrance-Sur-Mer.

One of the most popular cruise ports along France’s Mediterranean coastline is Nice. With its colorful streets, abundant cafes with outdoor seating along the Cours Saleya, and culinary highlights like lavender and rose gelato and fresh seafood, it’s easy to see why Nice is such a favorite among cruise ship travelers. The small cruise port is just a few minutes from charming Old Nice.

Nice, France

The colorful, winding streets of Old Nice, the fresh food and flower market at Cours Saleya , and the dramatic arch of crystal clear water on the city’s beachfront make Nice one of the best cruise ports in France. While smaller ships can dock at the city’s port just a few minutes walk from Old Town, larger vessels dock in the adjacent bay at Villefranche-Sur-Mer, just a few minutes taxi ride from the heart of Nice.

Santorini is packed with visitors year-round, but it’s still one of the most beloved ports in the Mediterranean for its incredible beauty. Whitewashed buildings and blue domes cling to dramatic cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea, making Santorini a dream destination for cruise travelers. Whether visitors want to explore the island’s villages, try local wines, swim in azure waters, or even hike to the volcanic cone at the heart of this ancient caldera, Santorini is one of the most memorable cruise ports in any Mediterranean cruise itinerary.

Giardini Naxos is the Italian port for Taormina on the island of Sicily, known for being one of this Mediterranean island’s most beautiful cities. It is located just over half an hour south of Taormina, making it a perfect spot to enjoy the city’s renowned Greco-Roman theater, the Teatro Antico di Taormina.

Giardini Naxos, Italy

White Lotus fans will remember Taormina from the second season of this hit show, but savvy travelers know it has long been considered one of the most picturesque cities in Sicily. The port of Giardini Naxos, though small, is easily poised to access Taormina, located just a half-hour south of the famous city with its gorgeous Mediterranean views and stunning Greco-Roman theater.

One of the most famous Greek islands is Mykonos, and travelers lucky enough to find it on their cruise itineraries will love this multi-faceted destination. Mykonos is famous for its vibrant party scene, but visitors just spending the day in port will love beach hopping across the island, exploring historic streets with whitewashed buildings, and spotting the island’s iconic windmills.

Located north of the port of Civitavecchia, Livorno is the gateway to Italian gems such as Pisa, Lucca, and, most popular: Florence. Take a quick train ride to Pisa to take a photo of the iconic leaning tower, or head into Florence to spot Michelangelo’s famous David at the Galleria dell’Accademia or explore the renowned Uffizi Gallery. There’s no better way to explore some of the most unforgettable icons of the Renaissance and the Tuscany region of Italy.

Livorno, Italy

Livorno is one of Italy’s most famous port cities, not for anything it offers on its own but for the easy access it offers travelers looking to enjoy some of the most incredible cities in the Tuscany region of Italy. Livorno is within day trip distance of such iconic destinations as Lucca, Pisa, and Florence, offering travelers plenty of options when it comes to how to spend a day here. We’d recommend heading to Florence to check out Michelangelo’s famous David at the Galleria dell’Accademia, exploring the renowned Uffizi Gallery, and stopping at the famous sandwich shop All’Antico Vinaio.

There’s no more popular Mediterranean cruise destination than Italy, with ports ranging from some of Europe’s most impressive capitals to tiny fishing villages and everything in between. Whether you’re dreaming of a European cruise someday soon or choosing between the best cruise itineraries for your adventure-in-the-making, read on for all the most popular – and unforgettable – cruise ports in Italy.

Salerno / Amalfi, Italy

To explore the five historic seaside villages that compose Italy’s historic Cinque Terre, look for a cruise ship itinerary that makes stops at either the ports of Salerno or Amalfi. While larger cruise ships tend to dock in Salerno, smaller ships can access the port of Amalfi, much closer to Cinque Terre. Even the port of Sorrento is located close enough for a day trip to Cinque Terre.

There’s no better way to see the city that floats above the waves than from the water. While Venice is seeking to limit cruise ship traffic to curb larger-than-life visitor numbers, it’s still a highlight on many cruise ship itineraries and is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular destinations to visit in Italy.

Venice, Italy

While the visitor numbers in Venice have never been higher, the city is still one of the most popular destinations for a Mediterranean cruise. Exploring winding streets and hidden canals, marveling at Piazza San Marco, and taking in the view above the city from the Campanile are the best ways to spend one day in Venice .

Among a laundry-list of increasingly popular cruise ports in Croatia, the “Pearl of the Adriatic” is the most popular and memorable of all. Walking the city’s historic walls, exploring age-old landmarks, or even venturing to nearby beaches are among the best ways to spend a day at port in Dubrovnik.

Walking the city’s historic walls, exploring age-old landmarks, or even venturing to nearby beaches are among the best ways to spend a day at port in Dubrovnik.

While Greek islands like Mykonos and Santorini can feel overcrowded and busy, sunny Rhodes still maintains an untouched feel, complete with enough ruins and historic landmarks to keep visitors busy for a week. What is the best way to spend a day at port on this golden Greek island? Visit the acropolis at Lindos before heading down to the crystal clear waters in the protected bay at St. Paul’s Bay Beach.

With cruise ships docking in the heart of historic Cadiz, it’s easy to explore one of southern Spain’s most beautiful and famous towns, even on Spain cruise itineraries that spend no more than a day in port. Cadiz is said to be the oldest city in Western Europe, so you know there will be incredible historic treasures to discover, including churches with Moorish domes, storied streets, and more.

Cadiz, Spain

Cadiz is packed with history: after all, it is known as the oldest city in Western Europe! With cruise ships parking just a short walk from the center of the old town, it’s also one of the easiest Spanish ports to enjoy without needing an expensive tour or shore excursion.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site at the historic heart of Valletta, Malta, is just one of the most impressive features of what is known as Europe’s smallest capital city. Cruise travelers are enchanted by its narrow streets, grand palaces, and vibrant cultural scene, making it a must-visit destination on a Mediterranean cruise.

The Mediterranean city of Valencia is one of the most fascinating in the country. The city is home to age-old architecture and a beautiful old town and has modern wonders like the ultra-modern Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias. Valencia is also home to paella, so stop by a restaurant or cafe near the port for some of the best examples of this most famous of Spanish dishes.

Valencia, Spain

The city that gave the world paella is known for having an enchanting mix of both historic and modern attractions to appeal to visitors. Don’t miss the ultra-modern Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias as well as the historic old town at the heart of Valencia.

Kotor, Montenegro

Montenegro is a first-time destination for many Mediterranean cruise passengers, and the port of Kotor is the perfect introduction to this tiny gem of a country in the heart of the Balkans. Kotor has an impressive natural landscape, setting off its well-preserved, UNESCO-protected Old Town and just a fraction of the visitors of nearby countries like Croatia or Greece.
