Seoul Lotte World Guide — 13 Things You Need to Know Before Going

lotte world visit

A comprehensive Lotte World guide on how to conquer this adventurous theme park — both outdoors and indoors.

Last updated: 11 Apr 2024

Flying over Lotte World - Lotte World Guide

The last time I visited Seoul, I was 10 or 11. It was a family trip full of sightseeing, shopping, and eating KBBQ. Like all family trips, they were aite but tame (read: boring). No hikes, no camping, and no theme parks (my one true love!). It’s not easy being a “wild” child in a family that suffers from motion sickness.

Fast-forward a decade+ later, I visited Seoul again as an adult. Unlike the little kid I used to be, I was now armed with financial power and the independence to decide what I wanted to do. So, first thing on the agenda — go wild and scream my damn lungs out at Lotte World (롯데월드)!

Lotte World Camelot Carousel Light Exposure

Located within Seoul city, Lotte World is an incredibly popular theme park. Compared to South Korea’s largest theme park Everland , Lotte World has an outdoor and indoor park — basically, twice the fun. Each area is packed with a variety of thrilling rides and attractions, as well as entertaining goodies the whole family can enjoy. (Are you seeing this, mom?)

If you’re planning to visit Lotte World on your next trip to Seoul, find out how to maximise your time, experience and dollars here 👇

Pre-Trip Planning

1) peak periods to avoid.

Gyro Spin Ride Queue - Lotte World Guide

Besides the usual weekends, Summer break (mid-Jul to mid-Aug), Chuseok , or Korean Thanksgiving Day should be avoided at all costs! The holiday falls typically sometime in September but check here to find out when the next Chuseok will be.

You’d also want to avoid Christmas and New Year period, which coincides with winter vacation for schools. That said, if the dates are unavoidable, below are some ways you can beat the snaking queues.

2) Save up to 32% when you pre-book the tickets online

Lotte World Physical Tickets - Lotte World Guide

Tickets can be purchased at Lotte World entrances, but you’d get a better deal when you get them online. At the door, tickets go for ₩62,000 (~S$62). Day pass tickets via Klook can be bought at ~S$42. Quick maths: We scored a lotte discount of ~32%!

*Pro-tip: Use code <THETRAVELINTERN> on Klo ok to get 5% off all activities * with a min. spend of S$50 (discount cap at S$15) at checkout. One-time use only! (* – list of excluded activities )

To beat the crowds, you can also purchase Lotte World’s premium Magic Passes alongside your regular tickets. They work like express passes, allowing you to skip the queues and hop on rides almost instantly.

3) Download the Lotte World app

Scanning QR Code on Tickets - Lotte World Guide

Before you reach Lotte World, download the Lotte World Adventure mobile app . It provides information such as park hours for the day, show timings, attraction wait times, as well as ride closures and maintenance.

After collecting your physical tickets, register them on the app by scanning the QR code. Doing so will grant three free Magic Passes for each ticket, which you can use to reserve rides. They work similarly to Disneyland’s Fast Passes, but more on this below !

4) Getting from Seoul to Lotte World

Taking the Seoul Subway

Lotte World is located in Jamsil, about an hour from the city centre, and is easily accessible by public transport. We recommend using a reloadable T-money card for the journey.

(1) By Subway/Metro (₩1,450, 45mins) : From Seoul Station, take Line 4 to Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station. Then, transfer to Line 2 bound for Sindang or Seongsu Station. Ride for 11 stops to Jamsil (Songpa-gu Office) Station ( Google Maps )

At Jamsil Station, exit Gate 4 and follow the signs to Lotte World. If you’re coming from another station, refer to Google Maps or Naver Maps for directions.

(2) By Public Bus (₩1,400, 1hr): From Seoul Bus Station, take bus 402. Ride for 13 stops to Nonhyeon Station. Then, transfer to bus 360. Ride for 14 stops to Jamsil Lotte World Station. ( Google Maps )

To redeem your pre-booked tickets from Klook , head to Lotte World’s South Gate located outside the mall. Enter the Group Admission office on the left to show your vouchers. The staff will hand you your physical tickets, then it’s time to play!

At Lotte World

Lotte World consists of an outdoor (“Magic Island”) and indoor area (“Adventure”). On Magic Island, you’ll find an iconic princess castle, as well as a majority of the theme park’s thrilling rides. This is probably where you’ll be screaming the most!

On the flipside, Lotte World Adventure is one of the largest indoor theme parks in the world, spanning four levels. Built under a beautiful glass dome, it’s more atmospheric and family-friendly than Magic Island. Most of Lotte World’s facilities and eateries are also located here.

5) Use Lotte World’s Magic Pass for Popular Rides

Lotte World App Reservation System - Lotte World Guide

We mentioned earlier that Lotte World has two types of Magic Passes: Free, and Premium. We recommend getting premium passes if you’re short on time and want to jump on the ultra-popular rides. However, if you’re on a budget or just want to try your luck, stick with the free passes.

How to use free Magic Passes

1) Via Lotte World App – Register your tickets on the app. – Under “Magicpass reservation”, pick your desired rides and timeslots.

The reservation system opens every 15 minutes. However, spots tend to get snapped up quickly. Some of the more popular rides may also close their reservation system by the afternoon. To counter this, arrive early in the morning to reserve your spots.

Paper Receipts for Free Magic Passes - Lotte World Guide

2) Through Magic Pass kiosks – Head to the ticketing machines in front of rides, or around Lotte World, to scan your tickets. – You’ll receive a receipt with your ride time.

Premium Magic Passes - Lotte World Guide

Compared to free passes, premium passes are stored inside your physical ticket. They can be used anytime throughout the day, except on some rides . Be careful not to lose them, as Lotte World will not replace lost tickets.

How to use premium Magic Passes: – Queue up in the Magic Pass lane of the ride. – Pass your ticket to the attending staff.

*Pro-tip: Save your premium Magic Passes for rides with longer wait times and use the free Magic Passes to reserve less-popular attractions with readily available timeslots.

6) Must-Rides at Magic Island (Outdoor Area)

Gyro Swing - Lotte World Guide

One of Magic Island’s most sought-after rides is the Gyro Swing . The monstrous pendulum hurls riders back and forth while spinning 360° at the same time. If you ever want to feel weightless and dizzy — this is it!

Atlantis Rollercoaster Ride - Lotte World Guide

Lotte World’s signature rollercoaster is the Atlantis . The ride starts slow, before launching you through twists, turns, and really close shaves with water (you can touch it too, if you dare). What won this coaster for me, though, are the two drops in the course that come when you least expect them!

Gyro Drop Ride - Lotte World Guide

Theme parks aren’t just a test of your body, but your mind too. Conquer your fear of heights on the Gyro Drop . The tower drop ride presents you with panoramic views of Magic Island before sending you on a free-fall at 100km/h for a few seconds. The fearless ones can opt for a VR experience, where you’ll be dropped in a futuristic cityscape. Yikes .

Fun fact: Someone edited a video of the Gyro Drop and made it even more terrifying. Some netizens had mini-heart attacks watching it, but (un)fortunately, it’s fake.

Other must-rides on Magic Island: Gyro Spin , Bungee Drop , Swing Tree , Comet Express

7) Must-Rides at Lotte World Adventure (Indoor Area)

The Conquistador - Lotte World Guide

Arr you ready for the ride of your life, matey? Modelled after a Spanish pirate ship, The Conquistador is a Viking ship ride that swings up to an impressive 75°, promising a riveting, gut-wrenching experience.

Lotte World Hot Air Balloon Ride - Lotte World Guide

Like a hot air balloon, the Aeronauts Balloon Ride takes riders on a slow and scenic journey above the indoor theme park. One of the best times to ride this is in the evening when the park comes to life with lights and flashy parades.

Camelot Carousel Ride - Lotte World Guide

A classic theme park ride, the Camelot Carousel is many visitors’ favourite at Lotte World. The family-friendly ride is equipped with 64 graceful white horses that revolve at a mellow pace. Even if you’re not interested in riding it, the carousel serves as a whimsical backdrop for your IG photos. 😍 (Hint-hint to all the couples out there!)

Other must-rides in Lotte World Adventure: French Revolution , The Adventures of Sinbad , Flume Ride , Drunken Basket , Pharaoh’s Fury

8) Recommended Route for Adrenaline-Junkies

Lotte World Adrenaline Junkie Map - Lotte World Guide

Daredevils, you’d want to prioritise these rides as they’re Lotte World’s wildest! But, have a backup plan in case some of them close due to maintenance or bad weather.

Route: Gyro Spin (Magic Island) ➡ Atlantis ➡ Gyro Drop ➡ Gyro Spin ➡ Bungee

9) Recommended Route for Families with Kids or Elderly Folk

Lotte World Chill Route Map 1 - Lotte World Guide

This route features less adventurous rides in Lotte World, but is still enjoyable. Anyone who wants to take it easy can also hop on this route (you are on vacation after all). Lotte World even has a Korean folk museum and trick-eye museum on the third floor if you really want to take things slow!

Route: The Adventure of Sinbad (Adventure 1F) ➡ Drunken Basket ➡ Camelot Carousel ➡ Aeronauts Balloon Ride (4F) ➡ Pharaoh’s Fury

10) Attractions and Experiences that Aren’t Included in Your Ticket

Lotte World VR Experiences - Lotte World Guide

Scattered around Lotte World are extra paid attractions such as VR experiences, haunted houses, carnival games, and mirror mazes. The entrance fees for most of these attractions cost ₩3,000 (~S$3) and above.

If you feel like getting active, head to the giant ice rink in the middle of Lotte World Adventure! The rink is technically a separate attraction from the theme park, hence you would end up leaving the premises. Show your Lotte World ticket to get a discount on ice skating, with varying prices on weekdays and weekends .

To re-enter Lotte World, you’ll need to show your ice rink tickets to the staff.

11) Catch Must-Watch Shows and Parades

Outdoor Parade - Lotte World Guide

While at Lotte World, check the location and timings for live shows and performances via the app or printed programme lists. Do arrive early to secure the best seats, especially for seasonal shows. People start chope -ing their spots an hour before shows even begin!

Lotte World Let's Dream Night Parade - Lotte World Guide

For us, we caught Lotte World’s “Let’s Dream” Night Parade at 8PM. It was a spectacular light show, and all of Lotte World’s mascot characters were in full swing dancing about and waving. If you’re lucky, you might even catch some indoor fireworks!

12) Grab some Food in Lotte World

Food at Lotte World

Lotte World houses a wide variety of food , ranging from the quintessential Korean grub to Chinese, Japanese, and American cuisine. There are many familiar international brands such as KFC, Quinzos, Panda Express, and even Gongcha.

Price-wise, a meal inside the theme park costs similar to what’d you find in most restaurants outside (~₩10,000, ~S$11.60). However, if you’d like to save money, Lotte World allows you to bring your own food, which you can consume at the picnic lounge .

Theme Park Churros and Ice Cream - Lotte World Guide

For light bites, snacks like waffles, churros, and ice cream (₩3,000 – ₩6,000) are available around the theme park.

Not a fan of theme park food? Here are 24 things to eat in Seoul instead!

13) Don’t Miss Seasonal Events at Lotte World

Walking towards Lotte World Castle

As an adrenaline junkie, I’m biased when I say the best time to visit Lotte World is during Halloween (usually Sep – mid-Nov)!

Halloween Event Zombie Show - Lotte World Guide

When we arrived in Oct, we found the whimsical Lotte World decked out in Halloween decor, ranging from cutesy (think of the children!) to deliciously gruesome. Special VR experiences, haunted houses, and performances are also rolled out to complement the spooky festivities.

Female Zombie Nurse

I highly recommend catching the impressive Zombie Show on Magic Island after sundown. It’s short but intense — the zombie dancers were so dedicated to their roles, they even grabbed at the audience like real zombies (pre-Covid days of course)!

Lotte World Christmas Event - Lotte World Guide

Christmas in Lotte World is also a huge, merry event that’s not to be missed. The theme park brings in carol bands, seasonal winter treats, and themed performances and parades that’ll make you feel like you’ve stepped into a lovely winter wonderland.

FAQs about Lotte World

French Revolution Ride - Lotte World Guide

French Revolution is an indoor rollercoaster at Lotte World.

1) Everland or Lotte World?

Everland is mostly outdoors, while Lotte World has both an indoor and outdoor park. If the weather forecast doesn’t look good, you can still explore Lotte World Adventure for rides and shelter. Comparably, most of Everland’s attractions would be closed.

Distance-wise, Lotte World is closer to Seoul city than Everland. If you’re strapped for time, Lotte World would be a better choice, as it takes up to 2 hours to travel to Everland via public transport.

When it comes to ambience, Lotte World is more atmospheric with more child-friendly attractions in its indoor park. Everland has more heart-racing rides like the iconic T-express , as well as an integrated zoo, that’ll appeal to all ages. Where you go really depends on your itinerary and preferences, but both theme parks hold plenty of fun and surprises!

2) Is there a language barrier at Lotte World?

Unfortunately yes. Most of the shows, rides, and performances are only in Korean but are still entertaining nonetheless. Signs and maps are available in English, Chinese, and Japanese. The staff only know limited English, but that’s what Google Translate is for!

3) Where should I stay?

Lotte World is conveniently located an hour from the city centre, so there’s no need to stay onsite.

4) Are there lockers at Lotte World?

Yep! Lockers are located at all entrances of the park. They’re single-use, and cost between ₩1,000 – ₩2,000.

5) What else is there to do besides the theme park?

For some retail therapy, head to the huge Lotte Mall that’s connected to the theme park. There, you can also venture into Lotte World Aquarium which houses over 50,000 marine animals, including adorable belugas and penguins.

There’s also Lotte World Tower , the tallest skyscraper in South Korea. Visitors can head up to the observation deck on the 123rd floor and marvel at the views below.

How to Get Discounted Tickets for Lotte World

Team Korea at Lotte World

Amidst the adrenaline-pumping rides and magical festivities, Lotte World feels like a Korean Disneyland. But just like Disneyland, Lotte World will hit you with exorbitant ticket prices: ₩62,000, or ~S$62 to be exact.

Rather than shell out that much money, pre-book your tickets from Klook . Tickets go for ~S$40, meaning you’d enjoy a discount of ~32%!

Clarence and Harris Having Fun on the Gyro Drop at Lotte World

If you’re unsure of your Seoul itinerary, here’s the good news: Tickets are open-dated!

*Pro-tip: Select the latest possible date available when checking out your cart and make sure the tickets are utilised before the date. All you’ll need to do is indicate a date when checking out, and you can redeem your vouchers anytime before that.

Besides discounted Lotte World tickets , you can also get travel essentials like SIM cards and T-money cards for cheaper when you book via Klook.

Lotte World, Seoul, Korea: Korean theme park

Lotte World is one of two major theme parks in/near Seoul, Korea. (The other being Everland, though it’s not really in Seoul but in a suburb of the capital.) Lotte World is definitely the easier one to get to as it’s just outside of Jamsil Station. Half of the theme park is indoors and the other half is outdoors so year round you can enjoy the place rather comfortably.

A Guide To Lotte World

Lotte World has a lot to offer any theme park lover. My husband and I were dragged there a bit by a very enthusiastic young child who wanted to have a theme park adventure for her birthday. Whether you have young children or older children or an adult, there is a lot to enjoy about a visit to Lotte World. You’ll also often see groups of children and teenagers that head there together.

Lotte World, Seoul, Korea: Korean theme park

The indoor space of Lotte World is housed a beautifully tall enclosure with a glass ceiling letting a ton of light in throughout the day. Known as ‘Adventure’, there are 4 floors and after getting tickets, is the first area visitors come to. With so many rides inside, you don’t have to worry about inclement weather. In the winter you can go out and back in to warm up and in the summer you can go out and back in to cool down.

Rides and experiences you can find in Lotte World’s Adventure

  • Camelot Carousel, Desperados, Fly Venture, The Adventures of Sinbad, Giant Loop, Kidzone, Fantasy Forest, Bumper Cars (for adults), French Revelution2 VR, Folk Museum, World Monorail, Jungle Adventure, Aeronauts Balloon Ride, Pharaoh’s Fury, Wild Wing, Dream Boots, Wild Valley, Wild Jungle, Dragon Train, 4D Shooting Theater

Lotte World, Seoul, Korea: Korean theme park

The outdoor section of Lotte World is called ‘Magic Island’ and is beautifully situated on an island surrounded by water. You can cross over to Magic Island via a bridge from Adventure and it drops you right off in a photo-op spot popular with visitors where you can get a shot with you and the Lotte World Castle in the background.

Everyone waits nicely in a line on the right side of the escalator/steps here to get the shot. If you don’t want yourself in the shot necessarily, go to the left side, take a photo without getting in anyone’s picture and then head to the rides without waiting.

Rides you can find in Lotte World’s Magic Island

  • Monorail, Lord Nelson’s Armada, Gyro Swing, Comet Express, Ghost House, Swing Tree, Gyrop Drop, Bungee Drop, Atlantis Adventure

Lotte World, Seoul, Korea: Korean theme park

Bungee, Atlantis, Gyro Drop, Gyro Swing, Gyro Spin, The Conquistador

  • Gyro Drop is a popular ride where you can test your fear of heights. Take in some stunning views of the area from high high above before being dropped at 100 kilometers an hour for a few seconds.
  • Gyro Swing is one of the most popular. This pendulum ride hurls riders back and forth while they simultaneously spin 360 degrees. Looking for a dizzying experience? This is it.
  • Atlantis Adventure is another popular ride outside. This rollercoaster takes riders through twists and turns and ups and downs. It’s a classically good ride.
  • The Conquistador: Modelled after a Spanish pirate ship, this Viking ship ride swings to 75°.

Best Rides For Families with Children

Drunken Baskets, Camelot Carousel, Adventures of Sinbad, Pharaoh’s Fury, Aeronauts Balloon Ride, Merking’s Royal Pageant

  • Aeronauts Balloon Ride:  This slow but scenic ride is a class Lotte World is known for. Enjoy a hot air balloon like experience around the indoor space and watch the fun below.
  • Camelot Carousel:  I can never pass up a carousel ride. The Lotte World carousel has 64 beautiful white horses that revolve around. It’s a family friendly must have experience in my opinion.
  • Adventures of Sinbad:  This is a fun sailing adventure that takes you through the underground waterway with fire breathing triple headed dragons, pirate ships, and treasure to be found.
  • Drunken Baskets:  The classic spinning cups with a floor that rotates at the same time. You will be dizzy after this one.

Magic Boong Boong Car, Brother Moon and Sister Suns, Kid’s Bumper Car, Lotty’s Train, Swing Pang Pang, Eureka, Kidstoria, Beluga’s Talk Show, Dragon Train, Dream Boat, Kid’s Sightseeing Car, Petit Pang Pang, Merking’s Royal Pageant

  • There’s a whole area with play areas and rides for the littlest of amusement park attendees and there are a few more outside that would work well for them too.

Get the Lotte World Adventure app

The app is really useful. I didn’t even know there was an app but saw some students using it in the line ahead of us and asked them what it was. This useful app lets you see the show timings, ride wait times and ride closure and maintenance info.

You can also register your physical tickets on the app by scanning the QR code. Once you register your physical ticket, you actually get a free Magic Pass this way.

Good question. It really depends on what you want to ride. Lotte World is very popular and can get pretty crowded at times. With the Magic Pass, you can skip the sometimes 1 hour to 2 hour long wait time lines for popular rides. You can skip the queues and hop on pretty quickly if not instantly.

What’s the difference between the free Magic Pass and the premium Magic Pass?

As mentioned above, you can get a free Magic Pass if you upload your physical ticket into the Lotte World Adventure app. However, there’s also a Premium Magic Pass so it’s important to know the difference.

Lotte World, Seoul, Korea: Korean theme park

Once you register your tickets on the Lotte World Adventure app, you can find “Magicpass reservation” and pick which rides you want to go on and the timeslots that you’d prefer.

The reservation system on the app opens every 15 minutes and spots are reserved fast, so you want to be diligent and pay attention early on in your visit. Some of the really popular rides will be completely booked by early afternoon and won’t have any spots left.

You can also get the free Magic Pass via the ticketing machines that are in front of the rides. You just scan your physical copy, if you didn’t want to deal with a new app, and you’ll get a ticket with your ride time. Don’t lose these though.

Premium Magic Passes are stored in your physical ticket and can be used at anytime throughout the day so unlike the free Magic Pass where you have to reserve a time slot, you can just rock up and have some fun. To use them, you just queue in the Magic Pass lane and the staff will let you right in.

  • Fee: Ride 5 (Five attractions: W49,000; Ride 10 (Ten attractions): W89,000

Tips & Tricks: You can use both the Free Magic Pass and the Premium Magic Pass so to make the best use of them, use the Premium Magic Pass on the rides with the longest waits, and use the free Magic Pass to reserve times on the less popular rides and attractions.

Lotte World, Seoul, Korea: Korean theme park

Lotte World is popular year round and will be the busiest on weekends and major holidays and usually is the busiest just after lunch time in the early afternoon period. To be even more specific, if you can avoid going on Chuseok, the Korean Thanksgiving, and Seollal, the Lunar New Year holiday, I’d probably avoid it.

We accidently went on suneung (the  College Scholastic Ability Test that seniors take once a year. The rest of the students beneath them have the day off so you can imagine the crowds that day!) last year as well and that was pretty dang crowded.

If you’re going to go to Lotte World, I recommend going early in the day or wait and go in the evening.

One of the things that makes Lotte World especially appealing around the holiday is there holiday themed parades. Their live performances and parade make a wide circle inside and everyone stops to watch. It’s super fun to see in person and a great way to get into the holiday spirit. This is just one of the great things to do when celebrating Christmas in Seoul .

Lotte World, Seoul, Korea: Korean theme park: Christmas Parade

At Christmas, Santa Claus, elves, dancing gifts and Christmas trees and more make their way around the Lotte World to the amusement of kids and adults alike. Make sure you make a note of what time the performances are and where they are so you can get a good seat and enjoy the show.

Lotte World, Seoul, Korea: Korean theme park: Christmas Parade

Halloween is another time that is especially popular, especially with the older kids. There is a lot of Halloween decor and some some zombie fun with haunted houses and performances. It can get pretty spooky.

Yes, there are! If you head to Lotte World and plan on being there for hours as any good theme park visitor would, know where the lockers are to hold your things so you’re not carting stuff around all day. The lockers are located at all entrances to the park and cost between W1,000 and W2,000.

I think you’re ready for a fun time at Lotte World… when are you going? If you like amusement parks, theme parks, and dizzying rides, you’ll love Lotte World.

I want to buy the premium Magic Pass but I can’t seem to find a place where I can buy it. Is it we can only buy the premium magic pass on the day itself at the physical ticket counter?

Hi there! Love your blog, it has been so helpful for planning our upcoming trip to Seoul! We are planning to go to lotte world with kids age 1 and 3yo. Do you think a premium magic pass is required? Since we are not going to go on all the thrill rides. Are the kiddy rides usually less crowded? Planning to go on a Monday! Thank you!

Hallie Bradley

The area for kids that young is definitely not as crowded in my experience. I don’t think you’d really use the premium magic pass, not for that area anyway, unless you or your partner want to scatter away real quick to try and ride something more thrilling and want to ensure you have a time booked, then you could use that.

2024 Lotte World Seoul Guide: Tickets, Attractions & Tips

Opened on 12 July 1989, Lotte World Seoul is one of the biggest and most popular theme parks in South Korea. On our Korea winter trip , we didn’t visit this famous Seoul attraction. But on our Korea spring trip , we made sure to add it to our itinerary.

GET LOTTE WORLD TICKETS

Initially, we thought that Lotte World is just another family-friendly theme park. But we were surprised to see its own unique charm. In fact, we saw many haksaeng (students) donning cute Korean school uniforms and screaming their lungs out on the nerve-wracking rides. It’s a massive recreation complex   that’s even connected to a mall and the Lotte Hotel World .

Rides and attractions

Lotte World is composed of two main parts: Lotte World Adventure (indoor area) and Magic Island (outdoor area).

Lotte World Adventure

Lotte World Adventure is the indoor part of Lotte World where you can find the ice skating rink, stage for performances, arcade games, indoor rides, and some dining options.

Here are some of the popular Lotte World Adventure rides and attractions:

Ice Skating Rink

Lotte World Ice Skating Rink

Open all year round, the indoor ice skating rink was the first Lotte World attraction that caught our attention as it is located right at the center of Lotte World Adventure. While we didn’t end up ice skating ourselves, it’s truly a sight to behold and a good spot to take some IG-worthy snaps.

World Monorail

Lotte World World Monorail

Hop on this adorable skytrain to explore the indoor part of Lotte World. It’ll surely give you a different perspective of Lotte World Adventure.

Balloon Ride

Lotte World Balloon Ride

It’s as if you’re riding a hot air balloon up in the air! The balloon is actually attached to the ceiling and goes around the area slowly to give you a bird’s eye view of the indoor park.

The Conquistador

The Conquistador

At first, it may not be intimidating to look at. But mind you, this Spanish pirate ship ride will leave you hanging on for dear life as it swings from one side to the other like a perennial pendulum.

French Revolution

French Revolution roller coaster ride

It’s a different kind of roller coaster experience as you slither through different parts of Lotte World Adventure. Of course, the 360-degree rotation will make you scream your head off.

Flume Ride

Splashing into the water on a log boat sounds a lot like fun! This exciting ride also takes you through a jungle-like environment from the Jurassic period.

Bumper Car

Get your adrenaline pumping as you collide with fellow riders. Remember to keep your cool all the time.

Camelot Carousel

Camelot Carousel

Take a break from the death-defying rides and get aboard the merry-go-round. Pick your white horse and live in your own magical world.

Game Factory

Unleash your competitive spirit by playing different arcade games, shooting guns, air hockey, claw machines, and more. Game on!

Magic Island

Magic Island is the outdoor part of Lotte World where you can find the Magic Castle, thrilling outdoor rides, and food stalls to buy some snacks and drinks.

Here are the top Magic Island attractions and rides:

Magic Castle

Magic Castle

What’s a fantasy world without a castle? Strike a pose and keep a memory of this quintessential Lotte World structure.

World Atlantis

This is the French Revolution and Flume Ride combo so you can just imagine the heart-stopping experience on this ride.

Bungee Drop

Bungee Drop

Picture yourself being dropped suddenly from a tall structure not once, but multiple times! Can you take the challenge?

Lotte World Gyro Drop

If you think Bungee Drop is terrifying enough, wait until you ride the Gyro Drop. It’s a longer free-fall and it spins! This one’s truly not for the faint of heart.

Gyro Spin

It’s tagged as Asia’s first non-vibration anti-noise spin ride – whatever that means, it’ll literally make your world spin like hell.

Gyro Swing

How about a spin and swing combo? We don’t know about you, but just the thought of it makes us dizzy already.

Swing Tree

It’s a rotating giant swing, but it’s not as extreme as the Gyro Swing.

The Comet Express

The Comet Express

True to its name, it’s as though you are riding a comet in the dark outer space. And yes, it’s a roller coaster with seats that rotate 360 degrees.

Moonboat

This one’s for couples who want to cap off the day on a romantic moon-shaped boat.

These are just some of the many Lotte World attractions and rides that are in store for you. Feel free to experience the rest if your time permits. Do note that not all attractions are included in the day pass. Some attractions and rides have separate admission fees.

There She Goes Again

A Complete Lotte World Guide

lotte world visit

Did you know there was an amusement park in the middle of Seoul? In this Lotte World guide, I’m going to show you exactly what to expect!

Despite having popped over to Jamsil a few times during my visits to Seoul, I’ve never actually gone into Lotte World until now! However, with the cherry blossoms in full bloom, I was lucky enough to partner with Trazy for a little day visit with my pal, Stephanie.

Trazy is an English-friendly booking company in Korea, and I’ve used them and recommended them multiple times on the blog! Besides tours, they also sell discounted tickets to attractions around the country, including our Lotte World discount tickets .

A Quick Lotte World Guide

Before I dive into what exactly Lotte World is and why it’s such a fun experience if you’re in Seoul, I need you to put on this truly classic K-pop gem . Before there was BTS, there was H.O.T.

Anyway… Lotte World is one of the two major theme parks around the city. There are smaller ones, but only two are really worth your time. And while Everland is actually more in Gyeonggi-do than in the city center, Lotte World is right off Jamsil Station. You can quite literally walk from Exit 4 over to the theme park area.

There are a few parts to the park, with about half of it indoors and half of it outdoors.

lotte world visit

Adventure – Indoors

The indoor section is known as  Adventure , and it spans 4 floors. Once you get your tickets, you’ll enter through the first floor. Stephanie thought it felt a lot like Casa Bonita haha.

We got a quick little lunch of popcorn chicken and hamburgers at one of the food places. There’s actually a TGI Fridays near where we ate, which was random, but if you’re not in the mood for Korean theme park food, that’s always an option!

After we ate, we wandered around. We actually didn’t go on a ton of rides just because we didn’t want to wait in line and different things made us both nauseous. Too much VR and anything that spins makes me sick, and Stephanie’s afraid of heights. And yes, in case you’re wondering, this is what getting old means.

lotte world visit

Anyway, I’ll list the major rides or areas on each floor below.

  • The Adventures of Sinbad
  • Fantasy Forest
  • Fly Venture
  • French Revolution2 VR
  • Bumper Cars (adults)
  • Jungle Adventure
  • World Monorail
  • Folk Museum
  • Pharaoh’s Fury – this is actually pretty fun! You feel like you’re in a jeep.
  • Aeronauts Balloon Ride – we were going to go on this but the line was super long
  • Dream Boots
  • Wild Valley
  • Wild Jungle
  • 4D Shooting Theater
  • Dragon Train

lotte world visit

Magic Island

Because it was such a beautiful day when we went, we much preferred being outside! You can cross over to  Magic Island from the indoor area through a bridge. It actually will lead you right to a nice photo spot overlooking Lotte World Castle, and, surprisingly, everyone was nicely waiting in line to get their shot!

lotte world visit

The main rides on Magic Island are:

  • Atlantis Adventure
  • Bungee Drop
  • Gyro Drop – This one was funnnn. I love a good drop ride.
  • Comet Express
  • Ghost House
  • Swing Tree – Just watch the people before you and see who doesn’t take to well to the swings. Shame, we saw a few people look ill!
  • Lord Nelson’s Armada — that sounds so dramatic but it’s just the fun little swan boats!

How to Visit Lotte World

  • 9:30 am – 10:00 pm, 365 days a year
  • Check this page  to see if certain attractions are closed.

Just know that if you book online, you’ll actually go inside the doors to the Group Ticket Office, not the regular ticket kiosks.

For 1Day with the Lotte World + Folk Museum

  • Adult – 57,000 KRW
  • Youth –  50,000 KRW
  • Child –  46,000 KRW
  • Baby –  14,000 KRW

However, with the Lotte World discount ticket , it’s only 35,200 KRW. You can also purchase a Magic Pass. For 40,000 KRW, you can skip the line at 5 attractions, and for 100,000 KRW, it’s unlimited.

How to Get to Lotte World

The easiest way to get to Lotte World is by the subway. Just go to Jamsil, Exit 4 and walk around.

lotte world visit

Where to Stay

There’s a hotel right on the lake called Lotte Hotel World, and if you want a really pretty view of Seokchon and Lotte World Tower, I’d try Rosana Boutique Hotel . I stayed about 15-minutes away by subway at this Airbnb right next to Suseo Station, Exit 4.

What Else to Do in the Area

Seokchon lake.

Magic Island actually sits right on Seokchon Lake, which is actually two lakes with a road running through the middle. It’s easily one of the most beautiful places in Seoul for cherry blossoms , but it’s still quite pretty to walk around other times of the year. If you do go later in the day on a weekend during peak cherry blossom season, be wary of the shoulder to shoulder crowds.

lotte world visit

Lotte World Tower

When I first went to Seokchon in 2015, this tower hadn’t even been completed! Now it is, and it’s the 5th tallest building in the world at 555 meters (1,821ft) and the tallest on the Korean peninsula. I have a review of the Seoul Sky observatory coming up next, but I think it’s definitely worth a visit at least once. You’ll get crazy views out to the city, and there are a few glass floor areas to really see how high up you are. It’s a little pricey, especially for Korea, but you can get a small discount here .

Olympic Stadium

Over off Sports Complex Station is the Olympic Stadium, which was originally used for the 10th Asian Games in 1986 and the Summer Olympics 1988. A few different artists have held concerts here (like the aforementioned H.O.T.), and I actually missioned out here when I was student to see the Superstar K auditions because G Dragon made an appearance.

And there you have it! A quick little Lotte World guide. Have you been? What did you think?

Hi Samantha! Thank you for this helpful post, I have a quick question regarding the rides for bigger bodies. We had an experience is Universal Japan where some attractions didn’t allow us to ride because the seats were not created for bodies of “certain dimensions” (which I would say not asian boby dimensions). Did you experience or see anything like this in Lotte World? I would like to go but I don’t want to waste my money and feel humilated in a park where I can’t ride because I’m not thin or small enough. Thanks :)

Ugh that’s awful! I was probably a US16 when I went, and I don’t recall anything I was on having a size or weight restriction. (I had time for the Gyro drop ride, swan boats, and something else I can’t remember off the top of my head. Doing a little digging only the Atlantis ride says they have a limit of 38 inch waists but all the other rides only have height restrictions listed. I asked in a local group, and I’ll get back to you!

Hi, I love your post! Actually, I’m looking for image with lotte tower for our clothing brand and an image in your post looks ideal for our purpose. Is there any option for using it? Thank you.

Hi Phil, for photo licensing pricing and packages, feel free to email me – [email protected]

Curious when you wrote this blog. What month and year? Thanks

Hi! This post is from April 2019 (hence the blossoms!)

Lotte World

Lotte World may not be as magical as Disney World , but it is home to the largest indoor theme park in the world. Recent travelers said that if you have children in tow and you're not averse to a little Korean kitsch, it's a good place to spend the day. With high-octane roller coasters like Atlantic Adventure and attractions catered to youngsters like Lotty's Kidstoria (a whimsical room filled with "Alice in Wonderland" characters), Lotte World entertains thrill-seekers and budding adventurists alike. If you're planning a weekend visit, keep in mind that Lotte World's lines can get very long during peak visiting hours. Fortunately, there are two solutions: Visit Lotte World on a weekday or go after 4 p.m. – lines will be shorter, and your ticket price will be reduced. Aside from Lotte World Adventure indoor theme park, Lotte World is home to department stores, a folk museum, a bowling alley, an ice rink, parades and an outdoor adventure theme park located in the middle of Seokchonhosu Lake, Magic Island. Regardless of what time you visit or what you decide to do inside Lotte World, be prepared to pay. Travelers said everything from Lotte World's version of a Disneyland fast pass to snacks were pretty pricey.

Lotte World welcomes visitors year-round from 9:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. every day. Regular admission tickets cost 36,000 won (about $32) for adults and 29,000 won (about $26) for children. However, if you plan to stay all day, you should consider purchasing admission to all of Lotte World, not just the indoor theme park. This all-inclusive ticket grants you access to all of Lotte World's facilities and costs 52,000 won (about $47) for adults and 41,000 won (about $37) for children. After 4 p.m., all-inclusive tickets cost 41,000 won (about $37) for adults and 32,000 won (about $29) for children. There are also discounts for students and seniors, while children younger than 3 can enter for free. Located south of the Han River, Lotte World can be reached via Jamsil Station on Subway Lines 2 and 8 (Exit 4). For more information, visit Lotte World's official website .

#1 Namsan Park and N Seoul Tower

Home to five warning beacons and a protective city wall during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), Mount Namsan now hosts a park and a smattering of tourism sites like an aquarium, a library and a bevy of beautiful walking trails.

But most people visit Namsan Park for its panoramic views of Seoul. To scope it out for free, visit Palgakjeong, an octagon-shaped viewing pavilion that boasts alluring vistas of the city. For an even more breathtaking sight, shell out a few won to get to the observation platform atop N Seoul Tower, Namsan Park's real showstopper. Recent visitors said that on clear days, the view from 1,574 feet up is spectacular. Out on the sky deck, you can't miss the thousands of padlocks attached to the fence; couples lock them there as symbols of everlasting love (bring your own lock if you're feeling romantic). For an extra-special experience, reserve a table for dinner in the rotating French restaurant, n.GRILL, on the tower's top floor.

History of Lotte World

The history of Lotte World can be traced back to the late 1980s when the Lotte Group, a leading South Korean conglomerate, envisioned creating a world-class amusement park that would bolster the country’s burgeoning tourism industry. The park’s development was initiated under the guidance of Lotte founder Shin Kyuk-ho , who sought to build a unique entertainment complex that combined both modern and traditional Korean elements. The ambitious project was eventually brought to life, culminating in the grand opening of Lotte World on July 12, 1989.

In the years following its inauguration, Lotte World has undergone a series of expansions and renovations to keep up with the evolving demands of visitors and the latest technological advancements. These developments have not only enhanced the park’s attractions but have also contributed to its reputation as an internationally renowned destination.

The park’s initial success can be attributed to its groundbreaking concept of combining an indoor amusement park, Lotte World Adventure, with an outdoor park, Magic Island, situated on an artificial island in the middle of Seokchon Lake. This innovative approach allowed visitors to enjoy a wide variety of attractions regardless of the weather, setting it apart from other amusement parks at the time.

Over the years, Lotte World has also played a pivotal role in the economic growth and cultural renaissance of South Korea. It has become an iconic symbol of the nation’s rapid progress, reflecting the country’s emergence as a global powerhouse in various sectors, including technology, entertainment, and tourism. Furthermore, Lotte World’s commitment to showcasing Korea’s rich cultural heritage has helped promote greater awareness and appreciation for the nation’s history and traditions, both locally and internationally.

Lotte World is a testament to the vision and determination of the Lotte Group, as well as the resilience and spirit of the South Korean people. From its humble beginnings to its current status as one of the world’s premier amusement parks, Lotte World continues to evolve and thrive, setting the stage for even more remarkable achievements in the future.

A Guide to Lotte World Theme Park: Our Experience and Top Tips

The Adventure Manual logo

Planning a visit to Lotte World Theme Park in Seoul? From the rides worth queuing for to the snacks you need to try, here’s what to know before you go.

We’ll let you in on a secret – we had no plans to visit Lotte World on our last visit to Seoul. As huge theme park fans, we’ll admit that we thought that the park was going to be a bit, well… lacklustre.

That was until, late at night, we decided on a whim to chance it and book tickets for the following day. We just couldn’t pass up the idea of visiting a theme park and getting our rollercoaster on.

But seriously, how on Earth could it compare with Disney or Universal (we had also just visited Universal Singapore , too)?

Well, it turns out, pretty well.

We were so wrong. So wrong that we needed to write this article so that you don’t make the same mistake and nearly write off Lotte World, too.

Buckle up, because we’re about to give you the complete lowdown on Lotte World . Here’s everything you need to know before you go.

How to get Lotte World Tickets

Lotte World castle

Getting Lotte World park tickets is fairly easy – we tend to use Klook when we book things in Korea as it makes it so easy to turn up and scan a barcode on your ticket.

And when it comes to this Korean theme park, you’ve got plenty of options. Basic one day tickets are around £26 each, though you can opt to book a half day ticket, where you can enter from 4pm for cheaper – very, very savvy.

Or, you can do what we did and book a park and aquarium package (it was approximately £30 each). This allows you entrance to both Lotte World and the Aquarium in the attached mall – the latter of which is open until 8pm.

Something to note, though: if you leave Lotte World to visit the aquarium, you can’t re-enter. We – almost – got stung by this, but thought to ask a worker on the gate.

Getting to Lotte World South Korea

Lotte World Adventure sign

Another reason we loved Lotte World was how accessible it was – you’ll find the park underneath and next to Lotte World Tower and Mall. It was pretty cool being in a theme park in the centre of a sprawling city.

Wondering how to travel to Lotte World? It’s easy. Take the Subway to Jamsil Station Exit 4 on Line No. 2 (green) or No. 8 (pink). Alternatively, you could grab a Kakao Taxi, though that will be way more expensive.

Best Time to Visit Lotte World

While Lotte World is open year round and there’s not a bad time to visit, there are certain times we recommend planning your visit for.

A magical time to visit is during Cherry Blossom season (this takes place in spring, usually the first week of April). That said, autumn/fall is also a great time to visit Lotte World in Seoul – especially around Halloween.

Get there early – the lines get very long and there’s lots to see and do – and make sure you avoid weekends and holidays (we know we just said to visit during Halloween but if your priority is to avoid the busiest crowds then unfortunately this means staying away from these busy times of year).

Aerial view of 2 Lotte World parks

One of the things we loved about Lotte World is that it’s actually two theme parks in one. It’s split into Lotte World Adventure on the inside, with (generally) more family-friendly rides, and Magic Island on the outside, where the real big heart-pumpers await.

Inside has four jam-packed floors and a basement floor called Underland which sits closer to the mall. Here you’ll find yet more rides in what looks like a magical forest.

Must Ride Attractions in Lotte World Theme Park Seoul

Atlantis ride, Lotte World

Location: Magic Island

One of Magic Island’s biggest thrills, Atlantis is SO fun. Part roller coaster, part log flume, this ride usually has a long queue. With top speeds of 75.0 km/h, it’s pretty speedy – you’ll experience plenty of twists and turns before plunging straight towards the water below.

French Revolution

Location: Adventure 2F

Situated indoors, French Revolution is another of the best rides in Lotte World Theme Park. Step inside your vehicle and prepare to rotate up to 540 degrees at full speed as you experience near misses with the surrounding buildings.

Gyro Swing / Drop

Gyro Drop, Lotte World

Are you brave enough for the two mega-rides of Lotte World? It’s stomach churning stuff. We had to skip these as the queues were pushing three hours while we were there, but we totally would have ridden them. Promise.

Gyro Swing stands at 42 metres tall and spins you around fast as the pendulum swings from side to side – this is not one for those with motion sickness (eeek).

While Gyro Drop does exactly what the name suggests. You’ll be taken to a height of 38m, where you’ll delicately balance – full of suspense and dread – before you plummet towards the ground at the speed of 90km/h!

Camelot Carousel

Location: Adventure 1F

If the above rides seem a little bit too intense for you, calm your nerves on the Camelot Carousel. This is a super sweet ride – and also a huge photo spot – that becomes even more magical when it gets lit up at night.

World Monorail

World Monorail, Lotte World

Location: Adventure 3F

Despite this being less of a ride and more of a way to see the park, the queues for the World Monorail are usually on the longer side (we waited around 90 minutes for our turn). Hop in a monorail adorned with Lotty’s face – one half of Lotty and Lorry, the park mascots – and get ready for a sweet journey around the perimeter of the entirety of Lotte World.

Pharaoh’s Fury

Locations: Adventure 4F

We have to say, the theming of Pharaoh’s Fury is pretty incredible. This is a Motion Dark Ride that’s suitable for the entire family – if you’re ready to face a heart-stopping race through ancient Egypt, that is.

Balloon Ride

Balloon Ride, Lotte World

Location: Adventure 4F

We definitely underestimated the Balloon Ride that transports you around the park in a hot air balloon – it was a knee-wobbler. Hop in your balloon and go up, up, and away before floating around the roof of Lotte World Adventure, with all the attractions underneath you.

We recommend waiting until it gets dark outside and the lights come on inside (you’ll have to grin and bear the queue). The reward? A sparkling view from above.

We hope you’re ready to get wet, because the Flume Ride is an unmissable addition to a day spent in Lotte World. Be transported to the Jurassic Era, where you’ll board a 4-seat log boat and head off on a journey filled with live dinosaurs.

Chicken in a Cup

Chicken in a cup, Lotte World

You’ll notice chicken in a cup is EVERYWHERE in Lotte World. And it’s absolutely genius – we cannot believe that the likes of Disney World and Universal haven’t introduced this mega cool snack.

Deliciously crispy fried chicken is stacked atop a soda (in a bowl of course – no chance of soggy chicken here) with a straw running through the middle, so you can sip while you snack.

We bought ours from the TGI Friday’s near the carousel, though the queues for BHC chicken were always ridiculously long, which can only mean good things – head there if you can stomach the wait.

For a sweet treat in the summer months (or all year round if you’re brave enough), hit up Moo Bar for an ice cream. When we visited, they were selling a limited edition Halloween treat, which we gobbled up far too quickly – it was tasty AF.

Strawberry and grape slushies, Lotte World

Another thing you’ll find all over the park are little slushies packets – we had the strawberry (red) and the grape (green) ones throughout the day and loved them both (the strawberry was our favourite, though).

Or, if you’re more of a smoothie fan, there’s a Jamba Juice stall on Adventure 2F.

Mega Coffee

Mega Coffee quite literally became our life when we last visited Seoul (Chris had far too many Cherry Cokes over the course of a week). The menu is huge, the coffees are also huge, and the prices are low.

If you go when it’s colder, make sure you snap up a mint hot chocolate (way better than a Starbucks, we promise you), while the unicorn frappe was delicious when we visited in autumn.

Magic Island, Lotte World

Download the Lotte World App Before You Go

Going to a theme park without downloading the park app is never a good idea. And the one for Lotte World is excellent. It gives you all the live queue times and show times, so you can make a beeline for your favourite rides when the queue dips… Or, you know, you can mull over the fact that the queue for Gyro Drop is four hours.

Prepare to Queue… A Lot

On that note, even if you visit in an off-season, it’s likely you’ll have to queue for most rides and attractions. Believe it or not, we spotted fast food queues that were pushing the 30 minute mark (ahem, BHC we’re looking at you and your deliciously crispy chicken).

The Tower Info

Guide to visiting Lotte World Tower Observation Deck

The 123-floor Lotte World Tower in Seoul is the tallest skyscraper in South Korea, and one of the tallest buildings in the world . The tower was built in late 2016, and an observatory on the top was opened to the public in April 2017, it has become a popular attraction in Seoul.

lotte world visit

As of 2024 the standard admission fee for Lotte World Tower Observation Deck is 27,000 KRW (about 20 US Dollars) , tickets can be purchased at the ticket hall of the building, and can also be booked online in advance, which is the recommended option as a discount will be offered, and can save you a long time for waiting in a queue to buy tickets (at least half an hour, and longer on weekends and holidays). The admission tickets can be booked by clicking here .

The opening hours of Lotte World Tower Observation Deck vary slightly depending on the day of visit, it opens from 10:00 am every day, the closing time is 10:00 pm for Sunday to Thursday, and 11:00 pm for Friday, Saturday, and public holidays of South Korea, the closing time will also be 10:00 pm if it’s the last day of the holidays. The best time to visit the observation deck is before dusk time, in this way you will see day views, dusk views, and night views within a single visit. Lotte World Tower is located in Jamsil neighborhood (Jamsil-dong) in Songpa District (Songpa-gu) of the city, it’s very easy to be found as it’s so tall and the area has no other such tall skyscrapers built (the city’s skyscrapers are mostly centered in Yeongdeungpo District, the neighboring Gangnam District, and Yongshan District near downtown). The address of the tower is 300, Olympic-ro, Songpa-gu, Seoul.

The tower is situated by a metro station (Jamsil Station), the most convenient way to get to the tower is by subway, take either Line 2 (Green line) or Line 8 (Pink line) to Jamsil Station, and exit the station at Exit 2, then you will immediately see the tower in front of you.

lotte world visit

The elevator of Seoul Sky Observatory is one of the fastest elevators in the world, it travels with a maximum speed of 10 meters per second and can reach 118th floor in just 60 seconds. Taking the elevator is a fantastic experience. Once the door closed, the four sides of the elevator will turn into a 3d video screen, showing the growth of the city, the scene starts from an ancient Korean building in downtown area, and moves fast though other places and the Han River, and slows down at the location of Lotte World Tower, then a time lapse of the construction of the tower begins, showing how the tower was built from ground level to sky. The elevator door will open as soon as the video ends, and you’ve accessed 117th floor. The 117th floor is a normal observation floor, there are floor-to-ceiling windows, but the ceiling is not high, for better observation experience, most visitors stay here for just a short moment and take an escalator to 118th floor.

lotte world visit

The most notable attraction on this floor is the glass bottomed space, which is the areas on the floor that have only glass in the bottom.

lotte world visit

At a height of 478 meters, the glass skywalk on Lotte World Tower is verified by Guinness World Records as the world’s highest glass floor. Standing or walking on any one of the glass skywalk, you will feel as floating in the air, as you can directly look down at the streets far below your feet.

lotte world visit

It can be terrifying to stand on a transparent glass of such a height, but don’t worry, the glass floor is made of 45mm thick glass, and is capable of supporting a weight of over 500 kilograms per square meter, so it’s quite safe for people to stand on it. There are two glass bottomed areas, respectively at northwest and southeast sides of the floor, both offer great views, the one on the northwest offers the view of a busy intersection, the vehicles on the roads all appear like ants.

lotte world visit

And the one on southeast offers the view of Seokchon Lake (east lake).

lotte world visit

Walking on to the west side of the floor, the closest landmark you’ll see is the building of Lotte World indoor theme park, it’s directly under you across the street and can be easily recognized by the large words “Lotte World” on its gigantic green roof.

lotte world visit

After visited the 118th floor, you can go up to 119th floor by taking an escalator. Since 119th floor is integrated with 118th floor, it’s actually contained in the same observation hall as the 118th floor, and the floor is not connected to the glass windows, so this floor is not a good place for enjoying the views outside. What 119th floor offers is not the views but a coffee shop called Sky Friends Cafe, from where visitors can buy some desserts and drinks. And from 119th floor, visitors can take a second escalator to get to the 120th floor.

lotte world visit

The 120th floor is similar to the 117th floor, it’s an one-floor observation deck, there’s no two-floor high glass windows.

lotte world visit

But this floor offers one of the key attractions of the observatory, which is the Sky Terrace, the open-air areas for enjoying the views. Like the glass floors, there are two such open-air areas, the position is same as the glass floors but two floors higher, and one of them can be seen immediately as soon as you arrive the 120th floor by escalator. The Sky Terrace is 486 meters high from the ground, and the terrace has no canopy on the top, so visitors can feel the cool air of such a high altitude.

lotte world visit

And if you look up from the terrace, you can see the pinnacle and parapet on the top of the tower.

lotte world visit

The views are not very different with that seen from the 118th floor, but there are telescopes that can help you see further.

lotte world visit

The floor also has a shop called Seoul Sky Shop, it sells some souvenirs and many other stuffs. The 122nd floor is similar to the 119th floor, it also has a coffee shop, called Seoul Sky Cafe. The last floor 123rd floor is a premium lounge, and actually a bar, serving wine and cocktails, as well as drinks and desserts, visitors need to order a drink to access there. When you want to leave the observation deck, go to 120th floor to take the elevator, there will be a video on the walls in the elevator again, this time it shows the city with fireworks on the night sky, like is celebrating visitors for completing the visit to one of the tallest buildings in the world.

Where Are Those Morgans Seoul Sky Observation Deck

The Seoul Sky observation deck is located between the 117th and 123rd floor of the Lotte World Tower in Seoul, South Korea. It’s one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city featuring two story-high glass windows, numerous cafes, a lounge, two Guinness World Records and stunning 360° views.

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about visiting the Seoul Sky observation deck including pros and cons from our visit.

Our Seoul Experience

Man and woman at the top of the Lotte World Tower in Seoul Sky Observatory

We spent 14 days exploring Seoul, South Korea in March 2023 . Lotte World Tower was one of the first attractions we visited because this observation deck was at the top of our Seoul bucket list. But on our last evening in the city, we visited the Namsan Seoul Tower so we could compare  Seoul’s two popular observatories .

If this is your first time in Seoul, you should add this observation deck to your itinerary because it features one of the best views in the entire city. We’ll also show you what to expect including what we liked and didn’t like about our experience. Read more  about us .

What Is Seoul Sky?

Lotte World Tower and Seoul Sky Observation Deck view from the ground

The Seoul Sky observation deck is a popular tourist attraction located at the top of Lotte World Tower in Seoul, South Korea. Opened in April 2017, the observatory showcases stunning 360° panoramic views of the city and various Korean themed exhibits.

Sometimes referred to as the city in the sky, Lotte World Tower is the tallest building in Korea . It also currently holds the record as the world’s 6th tallest building standing at 1,819 ft (554m) just surpassing the One World Trade Center in New York City.

Visitors can explore 7 different areas in the observation deck spanning from the 117th to the 123rd floor . You can also walk across the Seoul Sky Bridge suspended 1,774 ft (541m) for an additional fee.

Here are a few interesting facts about Lotte World Tower:

  • It was designed by American architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox and can with withstand a 9.0 magnitude earthquake as well as strong winds up to 80 m/s.
  • The sleek and tapered design of the building was meant to contrast against the mountainous topography of the city.
  • Similar to the Empire State Building in NYC, Lotte World was the first building in Korea to be built over 100 stories .

  • Location : Google Maps
  • Subway stops : Jamsil Station (line 2, exit 1/2 or line 8, exit 10/11)

Depending on where your based in Seoul, you can get to Lotte World Tower in many ways. We used the subway because  it’s cheap and environmentally friendly  so that’s what we recommend you use too. But you can also take a bus or car to the tower. Here are the buses you can use:

10 Best Things To Do At The Seoul Sky Tower

A sign explaining the numerous floors in an observation deck

The Seoul Sky Lobby is located on B1 of the Lotte World Tower and this is where you can find the main entrance for the observation deck. But it can be very confusing and we got lost the first time so make sure you’re heading to the B1 level when you’re ready to visit. Look for large signs pointing you towards “ Seoul Sky. “

We like this observation deck because there are numerous activities and exhibits to keep you entertained. Below we’ll show you what to expect for your visit along with a complete photo walk through of each floor and exhibit.

1. Exhibition Zone

Man posing for a photo with Harry and Marv from Home Alone

After gaining entry into Seoul Sky, you’ll first walk through the exhibition zone gallery on B1 . This is where you can look at various displays showcasing the pride of Korea including information about the rapid growth the country has seen in the recent years along with rotating special exhibits.

When we visited, the 2023 Seoul Sky special exhibition was created by Park Kiwoong . It was called 48 Villains and featured numerous photographs of villains from popular movies so we couldn’t help taking a photo with Harry and Marv from Home Alone. There is also another gallery on B2 with multimedia and a rest area highlighting the architectural achievements of Seoul Sky.

2. Sky Shuttle Elevator

Bright pink clouds displayed on large monitors in the Sky Shuttle

After the Exhibition zone, we headed towards the Sky Shuttle elevator . This is the world’s tallest double-deck elevator featuring monitors on the ceiling and three of the walls. As you ride the elevator up to the 117th floor, a Korean themed video plays on the monitors and you’re whisked up in a matter of seconds .

3. Sky Show And Sky Station

Beginning of a movie in Seoul Sky Theater in South Korea

As you step out of the elevator, you’ll watch a short video in a small theater featuring the Seoul Sky observatory. The movie features numerous clips about Seoul throughout the years and it’s definitely worth a watch, especially if this is your first time visiting.

After we watched the video, the screen receded and we could see sweeping views of the city right in front of us. You’ll enter the observation deck on the 117th floor and this is where you can look through beautiful floor to ceiling windows. But once you’ve seen the views here, you can take an elevator up to the 118th floor.

Travel Tip : If the weather is bad, you can watch a prerecorded video of what views should look like on a clear day. But we have our fingers crossed for clear skies during your visit!

4. Sky Deck

Visitors taking selfies at the main sky deck in Seoul Sky on top of Lotte World Tower

A small escalator will bring you to the 118th floor which features another popular highlight, the sky deck. Here you can stand on the highest indoor glass floor (478 m) officially recognized by the Korea Record Institute and Guinness Book of Records .

We admit it took us a second to build up the nerve to make our way out onto the glass panel overlooking the city. It’s truly a strange feeling as you’re suspended high in the sky . Be sure to explore various sections of this floor because you can find both paid and unpaid photos spots.

Travel Tip : Look for the sign pointing to various cities in the world and take a photo with your home city.

5. Sky Friends Café

Sky Friends at the Milkbar

Another escalator will bring you up to the next level on floor 119 with a small snack bar called the Sky Friends Café. It serves ice cream at the highest point of the observation deck known as the Pasteur Milkbar. Honestly, we thought it was a bit expensive for what you get , but decided to enjoy some ice cream while we enjoyed the view.

6. Sky Terrace

Woman eating an ice cream on the outdoor viewing platform of Seoul Sky

If you head up another small escalator, you’ll make you way to the 120th floor which is home to the Sky Terrace . The terrace is hard to miss because it’s directly in front of you and it will most likely packed with visitors.

We like the Sky Terrace because it’s a stunning outdoor viewing platform at the top of Lotte World Tower and you can see gorgeous views of Seoul from 486m above ground level.

Travel Tip : It can be very busy on the Sky Terrace so if it’s crowded when you first visit, head somewhere else on the floor and return later to see if the crowds subside.

7. Seoul Sky Shop

Visitors shopping for a souvenir in the gift shop

On the 121st floor, you can visit the Seoul Sky Shop. There are numerous souvenirs ranging from keychains and notebooks to photos and keepsakes. While browsing, keep and eye out for the Sky Mapping Show . It’s a live media art instillation displayed in the windows of Seoul Sky featuring a stunning fireworks show.

Travel Tip : If you don’t want to use your time in the observation deck to shop, you will pass through another gift shop on B1 before leaving at the bottom.

8. Seoul Sky Café

Working making a coffee in the Seoul Sky Cafe

You might have worked up an appetite by now so if you need a snack, a good place to stop for a quick bite is the Seoul Sky Cafe. It’s a South Korea chain coined the highest café under the sky and it’s owned by the Lotte Group. You can find hot beverages such as coffee and tea as well as deserts.

Travel Tip : If you need water during your visit, this is the only place where you can buy it. There were no water bottle refill stations in the observation deck.

9. 123 Lounge

Main entrance of the Seoul Sky 123 Lounge

For those looking to indulge with a taste of Seoul above the clouds , you can reserve a spot at the 123F Lounge at the top of the Lotte World Tower. To help paint the picture, the lounge is spacious and cosy with comfortable chairs and dimly lit lamps at each table.

But the show stopping feature most visitors rave about in this lounge are the floor to ceiling windows. We think the Seoul Sky Restaurant would be the perfect place for a romantic dinner or a special family outing . The space is also available for special events such as proposals, weddings and brand launchings.

10. Seoul Sky Bridge

Entrance to the Sky Bridge on top of the Lotte World Tower

Opened in July 2020, the Sky Bridge Tour is an experience where v isitors can walk across an outdoor bridge at a height of 541m above the city while safety tethered to a line. Tickets for the Sky Bridge at Seoul Sky cost 96,000 KRW (US$ 71.82) at the 117th floor SKY Station or 120,000 KRW (US$ 89.78) at the B1 ticket office.

However, operations may be suspended due to bad weather and there is a maximum of 12 visitors per time slot . Tickets for the Sky Bridge can be purchased 1 month prior to the date of visit online, but onsite tickets can only be purchased on the day from B1F and 117F.

Best Time To Visit

The sun setting over Seoul South Korea

The best time to visit Seoul Sky observation deck is about an hour before sunset . This will give you plenty of time to see a few of the exhibits before seeing the sun set over the beautiful Seoul skyline.

We like sunset because this time of day provides the softest light so you’ll also be able to take better photos. During our trip, we visited at sunset and it was busy. However, the observation deck spans many floors so it wasn’t as noticeable compared to other observation decks because visitors had plenty room to move around.

The Morgan Conclusion

Paid photo spot with one of the Sky Friends

A visit to the observation deck at Seoul Sky is a unique experience in South Korea’s capital city because not only will you see amazing views, but you can climb the highest building in the country.

So is Seoul Sky worth visiting ?

Yes, the Seoul Sky observation deck in the Lotte World Tower is worth visiting because it’s an extensive observation deck spanning numerous floors and showcasing some of the best views in the city you won’t see anywhere else . After riding the elevator to the 117th floor, visitors have free reign of the entire observation deck and can return to any floor they wish by a series of stairs or escalators.

Here is what we liked and didn’t like about our visit:

  • Tallest observation deck in Seoul as well as South Korea
  • Both indoor and outdoor viewing spaces
  • Stunning 360° Seoul street views
  • Crowds were not as big as we expected
  • Ability to revisit each floor if you want to see it again
  • Glass windows are not the best for photos due to reflections
  • Numerous paid photo locations took up a lot of space
  • Elevator experience was just okay
  • No water refill stations and you can only buy water on Floor 122
  • Drinks and snacks are over priced for what you get

Overall, we enjoyed our visit to the Seoul Sky observatory and it was a great introduction to the city. We visited at sunset and it was not as crowded as we expected which was a nice surprise. However, we didn’t like how many paid photo spots there were because they took up a lot of space from visitors who already paid to see the observation deck. We recommend you book tickets for the Seoul Sky observatory online in advance with Klook for the best price.

Tips For Visiting Seoul Sky

A small elevator and cafe in a South Korea observation deck

We’ve covered a lot of information in this guide, but here are a few important travel tips to consider for your visit to the Lotte World Tower observation deck:

  • Purchase your tickets in advance online – This will help you to avoid the ticket line and secure your spot plus you’ll be able to plan the rest of your itinerary around the time you visit
  • Take your time – There is no time limit when visiting Seoul Sky so you have as much time as your itinerary allows
  • Try to find the Sky Friends – This is a great activity for kids so be on the look out for Tower Lota, Pix Lolo, Chi Tete and Yum Tao
  • Bring a jacket or coat – The outdoor viewing terrace can be cold because you’re so high up so make sure you have extra layers to keep you warm
  • Visit on a weekday – If you want to avoid the crowds, plan your visit during the week. We visited on a Tuesday afternoon and shared the outdoor terrace with only a few others for sunset
