We embarked on an amazing day trip, with Massan as our cheerful driver who promptly picked us up from the hotel. We traveled comfortably in a clean, secure, air-conditioned Toyota land cruiser. Our destination was the Agafay desert, just an hour’s drive from Marrakech. We reached the desert’s highest point easily, offering us a marvelous view of the expansive desert and an adjacent village. The climb wasn’t challenging, making it accessible for all. Lunch was a delightful experience within a Berber village. Hassan truly stood out – he’s not only friendly and approachable, but also remarkably knowledgeable. He eagerly answered all our queries and shared an abundance of historical and cultural insights. At the end of the day, we returned to our hotel content, albeit a bit tired.

Le désert d'Agafay est très mal indiqué par la route, voire difficile d'accès ! D'ailleurs, même les taxis de Marrakech ne sont pas autorisés à vous y emmener. Pour vous y rendre, 2 options s'offrent alors à vous : soit vous devrez louer une voiture à Marrakech et conduire par vos propres moyens jusque là-bas, soit vous pourrez participer à une excursion dans le désert depuis Marrakech. À partir de 58 €  par personne, vous serez pris en charge à votre hôtel en fin d’après-midi, puis vous rejoindrez un camp dans le désert pour admirer un magnifique coucher de soleil sur les dunes depuis le sommet d’une petite falaise, le tout en dégustant un thé à la menthe et des pâtisseries. Vous passerez ensuite une soirée pleine de surprises durant laquelle vous pourrez notamment profiter d’un excellent dîner traditionnel et assister à des spectacles de danse du ventre et de cracheurs de feu  🤩

5. Journée d'excursion complète dans le désert

Vous n'arrivez pas à choisir entre la balade à dos de chameau, l'excursion en quad et le dîner-spectacle ? Et si je vous disais qu'il est totalement possible de combiner toutes ces expériences en une seule activité ? 😀 C'est ce que propose les prestataires de cette journée complète d'aventures dans le désert d'Agafay . En effet, vous pourrez combiner la  balade à dos de chameau , la  sortie en quad , le temps libre dans le  Desert Camp , ainsi que le  dîner-spectacle  dans le désert 🤩

Vous n'aurez à vous soucier de rien puisque même le transfert depuis votre hébergement à Marrakech est inclus ainsi que les services d'un guide professionnel. Pour le reste, je ne veux pas vous dévoiler trop vite le contenu de cette journée afin que vous gardiez un minimum d'effet de surprise 😉 Prévoyez au minimum  44 € par personne pour cette journée, sans les activités en option.

6. Passer une nuit dans le désert d'Agafay

Si vous voulez vivre une expérience incroyable pendant votre  séjour à Marrakech , je vous recommande vraiment de passer une nuit dans le désert d'Agafay dans un campement en plein désert, sous les étoiles 🌟

Accessible à partir de  75 €  par personne, vous partirez durant l’après-midi pour rejoindre la vallée rocailleuse du désert d’Agafay, où vous serez accueillis dans un authentique campement avec du thé à la menthe et des pâtisseries marocaines. Dans l’après-midi, vous pourrez faire, au choix, une balade à dos de  chameau , ou une excursion dans le désert en quad ou en  buggy .

Le soir venu, vous rejoindrez le camp à temps pour admirer le coucher du soleil. Vous aurez sans doute très faim après cette journée d'aventures, et cela tombe bien, car le dîner en 5 étapes sera composé des meilleurs plats locaux marocains, à base de soupe marocaine, salades, tajine et fruits frais. Après avoir passé la nuit dans une luxueuse tente qui dispose de douche, de toilettes et de tout le confort nécessaire, vous pourrez assister au lever du soleil et prendre un bon petit-déjeuner avant de retourner vers Marrakech.

3 jours dans le désert de Marrakech 🏜️

Le désert d'Agafay n'est pas la seule étendue de sable aux abords de Marrakech, un peu plus loin à l'est, vous trouverez également le désert de Merzouga   dans les dunes de l'Erg Chebbi où je vous recommande cette fois-ci un trek de 3 jours ! Pendant celui-ci, vous pourrez monter à dos de chameau pour découvrir des camps bédouins, dans lesquels vous passerez aussi vos 2 nuits, et de nombreuses kasbahs, dont celle de  Ouarzazate et d' Ait Ben Haddou . Vous découvrirez également des paysages un peu plus luxuriants à mesure que vous vous approcherez des hauteurs de l'Atlas, notamment dans les gorges du Todra et de Dadès . Prévoyez environ 100 €  par personne 😉

FAQ : visiter le désert d'Agafay

Où dormir dans le désert d’agafay .

Si vous voulez passer une   nuit dans le désert de Marrakech , plusieurs  bivouacs n’attendent que vous. Certains sont des campements très authentiques, et d’autres des endroits plus luxueux, mais une chose est sûre, c’est que vous pourrez y passer une nuit inoubliable sous un magnifique ciel étoilé 🌟

• Le  Inara Camp est un superbe campement dans le désert avec des installations luxueuses comprenant un bar, un restaurant, un jardin, une piscine et même un bowling ! Le personnel est aux petits soins, l’environnement est superbe, et vous pourrez y passer la nuit dans une tente de luxe qui offre beaucoup d’espace et d’intimité, à partir de 229 € la nuit.
• Le  Canyon Lodge Désert Agafay est un magnifique hôtel situé à Lalla Tekerkoust, qui dispose notamment d’un restaurant, d’un bar et d’une piscine extérieure. Ce bivouac de luxe qui offre un magnifique panorama sur les montagnes de l’Atlas, propose des chambres spacieuses et confortables, avec d’agréables terrasses où vous pourrez contempler un décor à couper le souffle 🤩 Les chambres doubles sont accessibles à partir de 245 € la nuit.

• Le  Emeraude Camp Agafay propose également de passer la nuit dans le désert sous une tente de luxe à 35 km de Marrakech. Au cœur d’un cadre de rêve, ces grandes tentes aménagées disposent de toilettes et de douches, et offrent tout le confort nécessaire. De nombreuses activités sont proposées, et l’établissement dispose également d’une piscine, d’un bar et d’un restaurant qui sert des plats typiques du Maroc. Vous pourrez y passer une nuit dans une tente pour deux à partir de 208 €  la nuit environ.

Comment se rendre dans le désert d’Agafay ?

Contrairement aux autres zones désertiques du Maroc comme le désert de l’Erg Chebbi (près de la ville de  Merzouga ) et le désert de l’Erg Chigaga (près de  Zagora ), qui font partie du  Sahara marocain , le désert d’Agafay se trouve bien plus près de Marrakech. Il s’agit en fait du seul désert qui peut être  visité en une seule journée depuis Marrakech 😀

Le désert d’Agafay se trouve à environ 40 minutes de route de Marrakech . En plus des excursions que je vous ai présentées dans cet article, plusieurs options sont disponibles pour le rejoindre depuis la ville :

• La location de voiture est une option qui peut être intéressante sur le plan financier, et qui offre une grande liberté. Si vous décidez de faire un  road trip au Maroc , vous pourrez sûrement faire une halte et découvrir ce désert ! Cependant, circuler au Maroc n’est pas toujours évident et agréable, et c’est surtout une solution qui se destine aux personnes qui ont un peu l’habitude de conduire à l’étranger , voire même à celles qui connaissent déjà la région. Disposer d’une voiture pourra être plus intéressant pour les trajets plus longs, mais pour aller de Marrakech à Agafay, d’autres options sont plus pratiques !
• Prendre le taxi pour faire le trajet de Marrakech à Agafay pourra être une bonne solution, mais il faudra bien faire attention à négocier le prix de la course avant même le départ, pour éviter les mauvaises surprises ! En moyenne, la course coûtera entre 35 € et 40 € . Si vous prenez simplement cette précaution, vous pourrez constater que les chauffeurs marocains savent se montrer particulièrement hospitaliers et chaleureux 🙂
• Prendre les transports en commun  est la solution la moins chère pour arriver aux portes du désert d'Agafay. Pour cela, il vous faudra prendre le bus 33 . 

Quelle est la meilleure période pour partir ?

Si vous vous demandez quand partir au Maroc , et même plus précisément quand partir à Marrakech , sachez que le désert d’Agafay peut se découvrir tout au long de l’année, mais en plein été la chaleur est souvent assez difficile à supporter 🥵  La meilleure période pour visiter le désert d’Agafay s’étend de janvier à mai et de septembre à décembre .

Même en plein hiver , les températures moyennes sont supérieures à 20 degrés en journée, l’ensoleillement est excellent et il ne pleut que très peu.  De juin à mi-septembre, le thermomètre dépasse souvent les 35 degrés , avec des records de chaleur en juillet et août, ce qui peut rendre la découverte moins agréable... Si vous prévoyez de passer une nuit dans le désert d’Agafay entre novembre et février, il sera nécessaire de prévoir quelques vêtements chauds , car les températures peuvent être très basses en soirée et surtout pendant la nuit !

En ce qui concerne la  fréquentation touristique , la haute saison s’étend  de novembre à mars . Pendant cette période, il est important de réserver votre excursion dans le désert un peu en avance.

Que faut-il emmener en excursion dans le désert ?

Vous ne passerez généralement pas plus de 2 nuits dans le désert d'Agafay, vous pourrez donc voyager léger en emmenant simplement un sac à dos . Vous devriez emporter avec vous : 

• Des vêtements respirants , mais à manche longue pour la journée et des vêtements chauds la nuit,
• Un chapeau , un foulard et des lunettes de soleil ,
• De la crème solaire et une trousse de toilette ,
• De l' eau .

Pourront aussi être utile, une batterie portative, une trousse de premiers secours, une lampe torche frontale et un sac poubelle pour vos déchets. 👉 Si vous portez des lentilles de contact, je vous déconseille de les emmener, car vous risquez de les perdre et avec le sable vous pourriez même vous blesser !
