Waterfall Location

To commence the trek, head towards the lane situated on the left-hand side of the road at Kaman Village Junction (alternatively known as ‘Kaman Phata’ or ‘Chinchoto Phata’) on Vasai Bhiwandi Road. This village is located just a few minutes away from National Highway 8 (Mumbai Ahmedabad Highway).

The Recommended Route

The ascent to the peak is challenging due to the uneven terrain and absence of a designated path. The duration of the trek varies between one to two hours, contingent on individual fitness levels (not recommended for children, infants, and elderly individuals).

It is imperative to remain in a group and adhere to the given directions. The route is marked with helpful hints etched onto stones and trees, leading to the waterfall destination. The locals are amicable and willing to provide guidance if required.

Road Distance : The distance to the primary waterfall in Kaman Village (accessible via a left turn from Vasai Bhiwandi Road) spans 2.5 to 3 kilometers, requiring at least an hour of walking time.

Attractive Little Streams : During the trek, there are refreshing ankle-deep streams of fresh water that are both beautiful and clean. If you become tired of walking on the stony path, these streams offer a cool and enjoyable respite. It is worth noting that there are no leeches or other poisonous insects present, making it safe to have fun in the stream water even on a moderately rainy day.

Outside of the monsoon season, this location may appear as nothing more than a barren mountain. However, when the rain arrives, the main waterfall, towering at a height of approximately 100 to 150 feet, cascades down with powerful currents.

Beware of Fatal Spot inside Waterfall Pond Area : The pool frequented by the main picnic group is generally safe, but it is important to be cautious as there are a few areas that exceed a depth of 5 feet, which can be potentially fatal. Therefore, it is crucial to prioritize safety measures before considering venturing into these areas, as the stones can be slippery and accidents resulting in fatalities have already occurred.

Alternatively, just below the primary waterfall, a natural pool has formed, which is comparatively safer. Unfortunately, in October 2015, three individuals from a group of seven from Jogeshwari lost their lives due to a lack of understanding regarding the depth of one of the pool locations below the waterfall, which also had strong internal currents.

A Note to Keep : This trekking destination is exclusively suitable for a day trip. It is advisable to commence your journey early in the morning to ensure ample time for exploration and to vacate the Waterfall and Pool area before evening. Embark on your descent from the hills at approximately 4:30 PM, allowing you to arrive at Kaman village just before dusk.

Some Safety Tips : It is advisable to refrain from visiting this location alone, as it is not a typical picnic spot and may pose safety risks. It is recommended to visit in a group and avoid bringing infants, young children, or elderly individuals who may have difficulty walking or suffer from asthma.

Please note that there are no lifeguards or police security present at this location, and vehicles must be parked in Kaman village as there is no access to the site.

Eateries and Options : Ensure to bring an ample supply of food and potable water as the area is a wilderness with no commercial establishments or restroom facilities available. When the need arises, one must venture into the surrounding woods.

Recommended : When embarking on a stone hilly trek, it is recommended to wear comfortable shorts, such as cargo shorts, instead of tight jeans. Additionally, it is important to wear sport shoes and avoid slippers or floaters. To prepare for the elements, it is advisable to bring raincoats if there is a chance of rain and insect/mosquito repellent creams for protection.

Plastic or polythene bags are useful for protecting electronic items like mobile phones and cameras. It is also recommended to bring a good pair of towels and clothes, as well as some form of identification.

Accommodation Options : As there is no overnight picnic location, it is important to note that there is no accommodation available in the vicinity. The nearest recommended place to find lodging is Vasai.

To reach Kaman village, the starting point of the trek, there are several travel options available. One can take a local train on the western railway route and get off at Vasai Road or Naigaon station, which are the nearest stations.

The journey takes about an hour from Andheri suburb or half an hour more from South Mumbai stations. Alternatively, one can drive on National Highway 8 and take a left after crossing Vasai, following the Bhiwandi Road direction signboard.

If coming from Mumbai, take a right below the flyover towards Bhiwandi Road after crossing Naigaon. Those coming from Thane and Navi Mumbai area can take National Highway 3. Regular MSRTC buses from Vasai Railway Station West Depot are also available, costing about Rs.15.

Share and private autos from Vasai Railway Station and Naigaon (both east side) are available, with private autos charging around Rs.100 to Rs.150 till Kaman Village and share autos taking anything between Rs.20 to Rs.30 per head.

Paradise on the outskirts of Mumbai: Chinchoti waterfall, Naigaon

With the monsoon commencing in Mumbai and the neighbouring areas it is perfect weather for treks around the city. A place which is a must trek to in order to enjoy the splendor of nature is Chinchoti waterfall which is near Naigaon and Vasai east on the Western line. There are both buses and auto rickshaws to Kaman Phata which is near the village of Chinchoti. The village is also located near NH 8.

The trek to Chinchoti takes one through freshwater streams, green forests and hilly terrain. There is no fixed route and it takes around an hour and a half to two hours to trek to the main waterfall. During the monsoon, the main waterfall is about 100 to 150 feet high and flows with strong currents.

The waterfall draws big crowds of picnickers on weekends but there is no food options available. It is best to carry supplies while heading to Chinchoti.  There are birds, insects and animals which one may encounter while getting to the waterfall. Respect nature while in the midst of it and avoid making noise.

The waterfall has rocky parts and it is best to avoid venturing too deep as there have been incidents of people getting injured and even dying in the waterfalls. Do not stay back after 5.30 pm as it is a jungle area and there are some wild animals seen which are dangerous.

The best time to visit Chinchoti is during the monsoon months from June to September when the waterfalls are in full flow. There are a number of small waterfalls along the way which can also be used to laze by for those who do not want to climb all the way to the top.

The streams that flow are also a good source of break spots where one can just sit and laze by. There are yellow markings on the stones and the trees along the way which help to guide one to the falls and back to the village. Be sure to follow those to avoid getting lost in the wild.

It is best to start early in the morning to spend time near and enjoy the waterfall and surrounding nature. Leave to head back by around 4-5 pm to avoid getting caught in the forest at sundown. The walk through the forest is majestic and good shoes are advised to avoid injury and falls.

Chinchoti Waterfall location

Chinchoti waterfall is around 2hr trek from Chinchoti Naka. The place is mid way between Vasai East and Naigaon East, near Mumbai Maharastra.

Its on the national highway that connects Vasai Virar to Mumbai via Bhayander.

Best time to visit Chinchoti waterfall Naigaon/Vasai?

Monsoon season is the best time to visit Chinchoti waterfall. Since all the waterfalls are formed by rain water, wait for atleast a week of rain before planning to visit Chinchoti waterfall.

How to reach Chinchoti waterfall?

You can reach Chinchoti by train or road. The last mile connectivity is via road and beyond that you will have to trek.

Chinchoti via train

The cheapest way to reach chinchoti is by local train and bus. There are two stations from where you can get bus or sharing auto till Chinchoti Naka.

Chinchoti Naigaon

Reach Naigaon by taking a local train from the Western Line in Mumbai. Get out of station from the East side. As you cross the bridge outside station, take a right. You will find a bus stand, bus frequency is around 30min.

Take the bus till the last stop which is near the Highway, it will cost you Rs.15/-.

From there, you will get sharing auto that will charge you Rs.10-15 and drop you at the Chinchoti Naka.

Note: You can also take a auto from the station, they may charge you around Rs.40-50/ per seat on sharing basis or Rs.100-150/ for full auto.

Chinchoti waterfall from Vasai station

Vasai is the next stop from Naigaon if you are traveling from Dadar side. Once you get down at Vasai, proceed towards West. At the south end of platform 1, there is ST (State transport) Bus depot.

You will find bus to Chinchoti between 6am- 9am from this stop, at a frequency of 1hr. The bus will cost you Rs.15/- per seat and it will drop you at Chinchoti Naka.

You can also take an auto from vasai, East or West. It will cost your around Rs.50-60 per seat or Rs.150-200 for full auto.

Chinchoti via road

If you are driving your own vehicle, take Mumbai Ahmedabad highway and look for Chinchoti Naka. You can take your vehicle ahead in the village and reach the base from you will have to trek.

Park you vehicle (free parking) and start treking.

Note: Its advisable to ask for directions from the villagers if you are visitng for the first time.

Chinchoti waterfall trek

The trek is pretty simple. You will have to treak on a small hill, the route is pretty straighe. Just follow the route formed by the human movements.

It will take around 2hrs to reach the main water fall. On the way, you will hear water flow, you can also take a small halt and enjoy the river.

Note: Do carry mosquito repellant, there are lots of mosquetos waiting to suck you blood while you are treking!

Food options at Chinchoti Waterfall

I will recommend you carry your shacks and enough water as there is no food availalbe on top. On the way you will find many stalls selling food items, water, cold drinks etc but nothing on the top.

Where to stay at Chinchoti?

Chinchoti waterfall trek is a one day trek but if you want to stay, you will have to book some place at the highway. The village do not have any stay option at the time of writing this blog.

Which station is near to chinchoti waterfall?

Naigaon and Vasai stations are near chinchoti waterfall. The cost of reaching Chinchoti naka is almost same from both the stations.

How long is chinchoti trek?

It will take around 2hrs to reach chinchoti waterfall from village.

Chinchoti Waterfalls: An adrenaline trek

It's monsoon and everyone is looking to hit the country roads and experience the lush greenery and majestic mountains.

The feeling was no different for me. I didn't want to go to mainstream places like Malshej ghat, Lonavala or Matheran, and i wanted it to be only a day's outing (people who have 6 days working can relate) with lesser crowd.

After some research, i found this place called Chinchoti waterfalls just near Vasai. The name sounds funny, isn't it? it's named on the village from where the adventurous treks begins.

The place was decided, and i took off the next day with some friends of mine. Took a local train to Naigaon and reached chinchoti village by 9am in a rickshaw. The rickshaw person can charge you an overwhelming amount. The ride is just around 4-5 kms, so make sure you don't agree for more than Rs.120. (There are no rickshaw meters here!)

Thrilled and excited we reached the chinchoti village, and it was like any other rural place you can imagine with green mountains capped with clouds in the background! The view got us even more excited and without wasting our time, we started walking towards the mountains.

Took us around 15 minutes to reach the mountain foot, from thereon the real trek began. I have trekked to quite a few waterfalls, but this was at a whole another level!

The trail can be difficult to find sometimes, so you have to move with your judgement. But, in our case, the adventure god wanted us to have some more fun. We were moving ahead the course pushing plants and branches, and after an hour, we realized that we were lost!!

Standing on gravel in some unknown area of a mountain, we were stranded! Still, no one of us look worried, we were laughing like idiots. It was a dense forest, we had lost the trail and there were creatures all around us.

Stupid it may sound, but i decided to open Google maps. Even there, i was receiving a 3g connection, but no roads means no navigation! I could only see myself on a green patch of hills on the map. I could also see the waterfall on the map (terrain mode), so we decided we'll move towards it with the help of the compass.

And finally, we found the trail! We were jumping with excitement. We rushed towards it and continued our trek towards the falls.

In around 1 hour 30 minutes (excluding the time when we were lost), we reached the waterfall. The whole trek was a difficult one, you'll need good trekking shoes and some real strength to tackle the terrain.

(Advisory: There are several ponds across the way to the falls, avoid going near them as there are many quicksands around it and many are dangerously deep)

The waterfall was our prize! After walking for so long, there couldn't have been a better way to relax than sitting under the flow of mountain water! It was heaven.

We stayed there for 2 hours, and after refilling our batteries with the pure snow white water, we began our descend.

We sticked to the trail and made sure there were no detours this time. On the way, i noticed the diversion from where we had lost our track. It was a Y diversion. We had gone to the one in the right, but the actual was on the left from where we had returned. So all those who are planning to go there, remember, always take the left at the diversion of trail.

By 5pm, we were at chinchoti village. We had some amazing vada pav and tea, after such an adventure, these snacks seemed heavenly.

Had to walk some more distance towards the highway for a rickshaw. It was hard, but we got one and went back to Naigaon station and then back home!

If you are looking for a one day adventure near Mumbai, nothing beats Chinchoti!

Looking for a perfect spot for a monsoon adventure? Look no further than Chinchoti Waterfalls! Located on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, this place is an ideal spot for a one-day picnic or a thrilling trek.

But hold on, this adventure is not for the faint-hearted! The trek to the waterfalls is an adventure in itself, and it’s best to hire a local guide to lead the way. Don’t worry; they only charge a in few hunderds! depending on your negotiating skill.

Once you start trekking, the sound of waterfalls from all around the jungle is mesmerizing. And after trekking for around an hour and a half, you’ll reach your destination. And what a sight it is! The main attraction of this place is the number of small waterfalls along with a couple of big waterfalls with pure water surrounded by dense forest and lush greenery. It’s like something out of a fairy tale! You can occasionally witness wild cats in the forest (it’s rare). Just make sure to keep your distance and avoid any unwanted cuddles!

If you’re an experienced trekker, you’ll definitely cherish these moments. But keep in mind that safety comes first! The waterfall’s current is strong, and the topography is unpredictable. If you move deeper into the forest, you can lose the track, and the place is uninhabited.

But don’t worry; there’s another option! If you’re not up for the trek, you can still enjoy nature trails with peace of mind at nearby Tunganeshwar waterfall & temple, which is approximately 5 to 6 km away. But if you’re feeling adventurous, then the trek to Chinchoti is the perfect choice. Very few people know the jungle path through Tungareshwar, and in fact, there are two jungle routes meeting at different spots near Chinchoti waterfalls. The track is a narrow jungle path, and one can easily get lost without the help of escorts. So, hold on tight to your guide, or you might end up becoming the next Tarzan or Jane!

The sound of the raindrops and the orchestra of insects give an eerie but adventurous feeling throughout this trek. You’ll hear the sound of watercourses trundling down rock faces chatting at a high frequency before it comes into your view. This is the midpoint of the trek to Chinchoti.

From this point, you’ll be crossing the stream on a few occasions to reach the main waterfall. The journey is a thrilling experience, and the waterfall is a beauty. The memories of the 125 feet magnificent waterfall will be permanently etched on your mind.
