so , is this another pageant held in Thailand ? … it’s a shame the two most populous countries , China and India , are not that much into pageants , just imagine if pageants became very very popular in those two markets …

Kucing, the capital of Sarawak. The pageant is Malaysia-based.

India, not into pageants? Here’s the thing. Mas malaki pa, ‘ata, prize package sa Nationals nila kaysa sa makukuha nila in the international… So, hindi na, lang, sila maingay.

China. Nothing ‘national~international’ happens without the blessings of the Party. That being said, once that is given, PRACTICALLY LIMITLESS.

Compared to Latin America and SE Asia fanatics, India & China are tiny. Miss World was kind of smart in courting China and having the pageant held there several times and crowning a couple of Miss China winners, so I guess Miss Universe is much much less popular in China compared to Miss World. The new MUorg owner will have a lot of work to do to upsize and upscale the MU pageant market

India is quite different, though they have been successful in both MU and MW, it has not served as host for neither of the pageants. The fan base in India is very tricky because of the multi-religious mix of the country, you have several hundred million Moslem, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh and Christians who will always have different views about beauty pageants and women in society in general, will be difficult even for the new MUO owner

I get this feeling the two big countries refuse to engage MU as it is now. Maybe, they have very high expectations, kasi iisipin, “kung ganyan rin lang, mas matino, pa, pageant ko”.

Did you see that India -based news channel on YouTube? Nanalo na, nga, sila (c/o Haarnaz),… 😦

Same news channel gave perspective on their SARS-CoV2 national vaccination efforts. Quite quickly, they jabbed 100m people. You’d think, wow! Then they reveal that with a population of 1+B, that’s only 10% of the populace, certainly nothing near herd immunity. But, just for the sake of argument if MUO’s Indian licensee just focuses on, say, Hindus & Christians, ta’s sa mga relatively secular areas like Mumbai (or, what MUP would designate as HUCC’s to target for licensing/partner accreditation), how hard could it be?

But, yes. SCOPE & SCALE ang kailangan’g maipakita ng bago’ng May-ari para mahikayat ang dalawa na sumali sa paligsahan… 🙂

(Of course, it may have simply been that both countries’ leaders in politics & the economy didn’t want to have any dealings with the former owners of MU. ‘Eh, ‘pag ganu’n wala na tayo’ng magagawa.)

Thailand’s Suphatra Kliangprom crowned Miss Tourism International 2022/2023

KUCHING (Nov 26): The Miss Tourism International (MTI) World Final 2022/2023 crown went to Thailand’s Suphatra Kliangprom, who beat nine other contestants from the final selection on Friday night.

Some 40 contestants vied for the crown but only 10 countries were selected to the final, comprising of Suphatra, Australia’s Gabriella Oxley, Malaysia’s Phoebe Ong, Singapore’s Crystal Huang, United States’ Alysa Cook, New Zealand’s Abigail Curd, Burundi’s Ndahiro Megane, Venezuela’s Laura Zabaleta, Philippines’ Maria Angelica Pantaliano and Russia’s Raskina Sofia.

Four other titles were also given, namely the Miss Tourism Queen of the Year 2022/2023 International won by Laura (Venezuela); Miss Tourism Metropolitan International 2022/2023 won by Maria (Philippines); Miss Tourism Global 2022/2023 won by Crystal (Singapore) and Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan International 2022/2023 won by Alysa (United States).

There were two special awards presented – the Dreamgirl of the Year International won by Abigail (New Zealand) and Miss Southeast Asia Tourism Ambassadress which was won by Malaysia’s Phoebe.

Nine subsidiary titles were also up for grabs – the Best in National Costume won by Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Nga; Best in Talent won by Uganda’s Sydney Navulya Kavuma; Miss Photogenic won by Maria; Miss Charm won by Milana Mosharova from Kazakhstan; Best in Cat’s Portrait won by Raskina; Best in Social Media won by Suphatra;  Miss Nuzezo Glamour won by Crystal; Miss Friendshhip won by Yuka Oyama (Japan) and Miss Popularity won by Park Sea (South Korea).

The international pageant themed ‘Bringing the World to Sarawak’ also showcased world-class performances by entertainers and delegates also took to the catwalk in their respective traditional costumes.

After waiting 28 years, Sarawak was finally given the opportunity to host the Silver Jubilee of Miss Tourism International.

The panel of judges comprised Argenis Angulo (Argentina), Dr Dewi Motik Promono M. Si (Indonesia), Carina Jia (China), Emily Hong Nhung (Vietnam), Datin Sri Jacqueline Ngu (Malaysia), Datuk Dr Lau Pang Heng (Malaysia) and Bjarne Wong (Malaysia).

The 25th Miss Tourism International World Final journey started from Nov 11-27 in Kuching and was an avenue for the beauty queens to promote Sarawak to the rest of the world.

Present at the finale were Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his wife Datin Zuraini Abdul Jabbar; the ministry’s deputy ministers Datuk Sebastian Ting and Datuk Snowdan Lawan; Snowdan’s wife Datin Melinda Claudia Bucking; Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Padawan Municipal Council chairman Lo Khere Chiang; Miri mayor Adam Yii; and Miss Tourism International franchise holder and president Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi.

Yast Group was the main organiser of Miss Tourism International World Final while the franchise holder is D’Touch International Sdn Bhd.

The pageant is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, local authorities and other sponsors.

The finale was aired live on social media and Youtube.

International Titleholders of 2022

The 25th edition of Miss Tourism International, was held at RAIA Hotel on 25th November 2022 where Angelica Pantaliano of Philippines was crowned Miss Tourism Metropolitan International 2022. On winning the international crown, Angelica took to her official social media as she wrote, “A life changing moment happened 4 days ago. I am overwhelmed by everyone’s love and support. Truly a great gift and a plot twist this year. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to President for giving us this wonderful opportunity to promote peace, friendship, tourism, and culture all over the world. I will forever be grateful for your trust in crowning me as this years Miss Tourism Metropolitan Int. To Madam @estherlawleepoh, thank you for being the light of our journey.”

“You are an inspirational woman to me and the girls to be the torch of hope in our country. To Centre Technology Excellence Sarawak, thank you for choosing me as Miss Photogenic. Mutya ng Pilipinas Angelica Pantaliano crowned Miss Tourism Metropolitan International in Malaysia

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines again asserted its dominance in the Miss Tourism International pageant in Malaysia when Mutya ng Pilipinas Maria Angelica Pantaliano captured the Miss Tourism Metropolitan International crown in the global tilt’s 2022 edition staged in Sarawak on Nov. 25.

With her latest feat, Pantaliano now belongs to the long list of Filipino queens who received accolades in the Malaysia-based international competition, including five Mutya queens who brought home the main title—Peachy Manzano in 2000, the late Rizzini Alexis Gomez in 2012, Angeli Dione Gomez in 2013, Jannie Loudette Alipo-on in 2017 and Cyrille Payumo in 2019.

The Philippines remains to be the most successful country in the Miss Tourism International pageant, not only with its five top winners but also several other titleholders. Actress and host Aya Fernandez was proclaimed Dreamgirl of the Year International in 2018, while news anchor Barbie Salvador-Muhlach was crowned Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan International in 2010.

In the 2022 competition, Thailand’s Suphatra Kliangprom snagged the Miss Tourism International title. Venezuela’s Laura Zabaleta was crowned Miss Tourism Queen International, while Singapore’s Crystal Huang Ruojia was proclaimed Miss Tourism Global.

Alysa Cook from the United States was Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan International, Abigail Curd from New Zealand was Dreamgirl of the Year International and Phoebe Ong Yi Huui from Malaysia was Miss Southeast Asia Tourism Ambassadress.

Her Miss Tourism International pageant journey came as a surprise. A semifinalist in the last Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant, held in 2019, Pantaliano was appointed by the national pageant organization to represent the Philippines in Malaysia.

The Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant had just announced in August its call for applicants for its “comeback edition” this year after a two-year pandemic pause. But a Miss Tourism International representative had to be chosen right away. The national pageant organization had a shortlist of prospective candidates, and it decided to choose Pantaliano to carry the country’s colors on the international arena.

This year’s national competition will choose the country’s representative to next year’s edition of the Miss Tourism International pageant, along with several other titleholders—Mutya ng Pilipinas 2022, Mutya ng Pilipinas-World Top Model, and Mutya ng Pilipinas-Overseas Communities.

This year’s runners-up will also have their own titles—Mutya ng Pilipinas Luzon, Mutya ng Pilipinas Visayas and Mutya ng Pilipinas Mindanao.

Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant sends veteran beauty queen to World Top Model tilt

MANILA, Philippines — In a move that surprised beauty contest followers, the Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant shared photos of the country’s official representative to the World Top Model contest, already in the airport to catch her flight to Hungary where the competition will conclude later this week.

Pageant veteran and international beauty titlist Cyrille Payumo will represent the Philippines in the 2022 World Top Model competition, which will be staged at the Magyar Nemzeti Museum in Budapest on Dec. 2 (Dec. 3 in Manila).

The Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant said in a statement that the global contest is a “prestigious competition organized by Fiore Tondi with Major Models, one of the leading modelling agencies in Europe.” Around 50 aspirants take part in the annual tilt, and the top finishers are recruited by some of the most prestigious establishments in the fashion industry, the national organization added.

This is not the first time for Payumo to receive a surprise appointment to an international competition from the Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant.

She was proclaimed first runner-up in the last Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant, held in 2019. But she suddenly found herself packing her bags for the Miss Tourism International pageant to take the place of the original representative, Tyra Goldman, who failed to qualify for the competition for being part foreigner.

In the 2019 global tilt in Malaysia, Payumo captured the crown to become the fifth Filipino woman to be proclaimed Miss Tourism International, after Peachy Manzano in 2000, the late Rizzini Alexis Gomez in 2012, Angeli Dione Gomez in 2013, and Jannie Loudette Alipo-on in 2017.

The statement quoted Mutya ng Pilipinas President Cory Quirino as saying, “we are confident about sending Ms. Payumo to this international event. In our organization, we act as bridges for our queens in the pursuit and fulfillment of their personal career choices.”

The ongoing 2022 Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant will select the Philippines’ representatives to next year’s World Top Model and Miss Tourism International competitions at the coronation night which will be staged at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan City on Dec. 4. EDV

Thai beauty Suphatra Kliangprom wins Miss Tourism International 2022/2023

KUCHING, Nov 26: Suphatra Kliangprom from Thailand was crowned Miss Tourism International 2022/2023 at the pageant’s finals held here last night.

Charming her way into the judges’ hearts, Suphatra beat 39 other contestants in the glamorous 25th Miss Tourism International 2022 World Final.

She also received a crown, sash and trophy along with a cash prize of RM10,000.

Apart from winning the prestigious title, Suphatra also won the Best in Social Media subsidiary title.

This year’s competition – the 25th edition of the pageant – was themed ‘Promoting Tourism, Culture and Friendship’ and saw beauty queens from 40 countries vying for the title.

Laura Zabaleta (Vanezuela) won the Miss Tourism Queen of the Year, while Maria Angelica Pantaliano (Philipines) took the Miss Tourism Metropolitan International.

Miss Tourism Global went to Crystal Huang Ruojia from Singapore, Alysa Cook (USA) took the Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan International title while Abigail Curd from New Zealand was named Dreamgirl of the Year International.

Malaysian contestant, Phoebe Ong Yi Huui, who managed to make it into the top 10 won the Miss Southeast Asia Tourism Ambassadress.

Prior to the coronation of the new queen, delegates engaged in a 16-day promotional visits to several tourist attractions, including Bau and Lundu.

Organised by D’Touch International, Miss Tourism International was first held in Kuching, Sarawak in 1994.

After 28 years, Kuching was given the opportunity to host the Silver Jubilee celebration.

The pageant was mooted by its president Tan Sri Danny Ooi to channel tourism in order to create and foster new relationships among participating countries through closer understanding of one another’s national cultures, customs and traditions.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state has a lot to offer and always been open to building good relationships with the world, be it international friendships, cultural exchange, or tourism-related activities.

Abang Johari’s speech was read by Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak Datuk Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“This event brings the world to Sarawak, simultaneously promoting tourism, culture, and friendship through a series of activities lasting for 18 days in total.

“After two years of movement control order (MCO), we are now slowly getting back to the norm where we can interact with each other more conveniently and more frequently, though with all precautions and measurements taken into consideration.

“After the opening of traveling locally, and the gradual opening-up of international borders, we are expecting more tourists and visitors to Sarawak. We not only focus on the conventional tourism, but also putting effort into growing other activities in bringing in more people to Sarawak, for instance, business events,” he said. — DayakDaily

The Philippines’ Maria Angelica Pantaliano won the Miss Tourism Metropolitan International 2022/2023 title during the coronation night held live Friday at Raia Hotel and Convention Centre, in Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

A bank teller from Mandaue, Cebu City, Pantaliano also bagged the Miss Photogenic special award.

“I want to promote this platform of Malaysia as a pioneer in the use of hydrogen buses which will help eradicate or lessen (global) carbon footprint,” Pantaliano answered during the final Q&A round.

Miss Thailand Suphatra Kliangprom was crowned Miss Tourism International 2022/23 while Miss Venezuela Laura Zabaleta was named Miss Tourism Queen of The Year International 2022/23.

Other winners were Miss Tourism Global 2022/23 Crystal Huang Ruojia of Singapore; Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan International 2022/23 Alysa Cook of USA; Dreamgirl of The Year International 2022/23 Abigail Curd of New Zealand; and Miss South East Asia Tourism Ambassadress 2022/23 Phoebe Ong Yi Huui of Malaysia.

Pantaliano was appointed by the Mutya ng Pilipinas Organization, headed by Cory Quirino, and trained under Rodgil Flores of Kagandahang Flores beauty camp to represent the country at the annual pageant held virtually the last two years due to the pandemic.
