When it comes to miles and points, many of us are focused on two main redemption avenues: flights and hotels. Logically, this makes sense, as those are often the two biggest expenses when it comes to travel and can significantly impact the quality of your vacation as you move up the luxury scale.

Understandably so, the right move is to avoid other redemption options like gift cards and merchandise as the value is so poor. But sometimes, there is a unique redemption that can actually deliver outsized value for the right audience.

Let’s look at a unique redemption opportunity offered by Virgin Voyages, and learn how you can book a Virgin Voyages cruise with points.

Virgin Voyages – Overview

Virgin Voyages is the cruise line arm of Virgin Group. The Virgin Voyages fleet currently is made up of four ships: the Scarlet Lady, the Valiant Lady, the Resilient Lady, and the Brilliant Lady.

Virgin Voyages cruises are for adults only, meaning you need to be at least 18 years old to sail with them. This creates a different experience, as opposed to the typical cruise ship experience of having people of all ages onboard.

Virgin cruise ships travel around the world, including to the Caribbean, Europe, South Pacific, Transatlantic, and more.

Passengers on Virgin Voyages receive all food, soft drinks, tips, group fitness classes, entertainment, and Wi-Fi free of charge. For those who like to drink, alcohol will most likely be your biggest expense while onboard.

Booking a Virgin Voyages cruise with points is a straightforward process, but has a few steps that need to be followed carefully in this order: finding Virgin cruise availability, earning Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points , transferring points to Virgin Red, and finally, making the actual redemption.

Finding Virgin Cruise Availability

The ability to redeem points for a Virgin Voyages cruise is not always available as Virgin is most likely using this redemption as a mechanism to fill empty cabins in advance of cruise dates. It does however seem to be offered at least a few times a year, so it is worth keeping an eye out if you are interested in making this redemption.

If there are any Virgin Voyages cruises available for redemption, they will be displayed on this page . For example, at the time of this posting Virgin Voyages is offering multiple sailings as redemption options from either Athens or Barcelona for only 80,000 Virgin Red points . Cash rates range from $3,800 to $4,500 CAD for the cruises listed in this redemption offer.

While the dates and itineraries do change each time Virgin Voyages has sailings available for redemption, the current four itineraries are Greek Island Glow, Adriatic Sea & Greek Gems, The Irresistible Med, and French Daze & Ibiza Nights.

All Virgin Voyages redemptions are for two passengers. While you can book a cabin for only one person, the pricing does remain the same.

The current redemption options book into a Central Sea Terrace Cabin or The Sea Terrace Cabin , which are surprisingly not the base-level rooms. You can expect a nicely appointed room, complete with a balcony and hammock.

Once you have found the Virgin cruise you are interested in redeeming points for, you will need to earn (or transfer to) Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points.

Earning Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Points

The best way to earn Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points is to transfer them from US Amex Membership Rewards . While there are many cards that can easily allow you to earn enough US Membership Rewards points, some of the standout options include the American Express Platinum card (US) , American Express Business Gold card (US) , or the American Express Green card (US) .

virgin voyages book with points

The American Express Platinum card (US)  earns Membership Rewards and offers cardholders over $1,000 in annual benefits .

Check out our American Express Platinum (US) card review for more details.

You can view all US credit cards that earn Membership Rewards points through our “ Compare US Credit Cards ” tool. If you have yet to enter the US credit card market, it is easy to get started. Consider digging into how to get your first US credit card with Nova Credit and everything you need to know about Individual Tax Identification Numbers (ITINs) to get started.

While Amex Membership Rewards points transfer 1:1 to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points , American Express often runs promotions in which the value of transferring to Virgin increases, often up to an additional 30%. This means that if you are looking to transfer Membership Rewards to 80,000 Virgin points during a 30% promotion, you would only need to transfer 62,000 US American Express Membership Rewards points.

While Virgin points do not expire, I would recommend only transferring your US Membership Rewards when you are ready to make a redemption. Plus, US Membership Rewards transfers to your Virgin Atlantic account are very quick (typically instantly) so you won’t have to wait too long once you transfer points.

Linking Virgin Atlantic Flying Club with Virgin Red

Now that you have found Virgin Voyages cruise availability and have the required Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points, you need to create a Virgin Red program account and link it to your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account.

Heads up that as of right now, a US phone number is required to sign-up for Virgin Red so you might need to look into Google Fi or other similar options to create an account. Even if you try to enter a Canadian number, it does identify it as a non-US phone number and will not allow you to proceed.

Once you have created your Virgin Red account, you can link it by entering your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club number in the “Link Accounts” section of your Virgin Red account.

virgin red and virgin atlantic flying club account link

Once linked, you should be able to view your overall point balance and be ready to make your Virgin Voyages redemption.

Making the Cruise Redemption

Before you make the Virign Voyages redemption, ensure you read through the terms and conditions to understand the booking process and if there are any restrictions that apply.

Once you are ready to redeem, visit the redemption page, sign in to your Virgin Red account, and go through the steps which require you to fill out your personal information (and any personal information for those who will be sailing with you) and finalize the redemption. Once redeemed, you will receive an access key which can be used to book your cabin directly with Virgin Voyages.

When making a Virgin Voyages points redemption, all taxes and fees are included which means you will be paying nothing out of pocket. This sweetens the deal even more, as there are no additional charges that are typical with other travel redemptions, such as award flight redemptions.

Our Thoughts on This Redemption

I’m not a cruise person at all, but this redemption definitely has me considering it should other Virgin Voyages sailings be open for redemption in the future.

We’ve seen Virgin Voyage redemption rates between 80,000 to 10,000 Virgin points, making it a reasonable amount of points to earn. This prices out at a bit over a 2 cent per point value, so from a value perspective the redemption makes sense. That being said, there are other good redemption options also available for Virgin points, such as flying on ANA’s “The Room” business class to Japan .

Additionally, when you consider that the redemption is good for two passengers and all food is included, this redemption can save you a significant amount of money and is a great frugal travel choice.

I think this redemption is worth considering if you like the idea of an adults-only cruise and are interested in crossing a bunch of destinations off your list without needing to do any real planning. Cruises are definitely not for everyone, but for those who do have interest, this is a fantastic redemption opportunity and would be well worth building a balance of US Membership Rewards points for a future transfer and redemption.

Redeeming Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points, and in turn, Virgin Red points, for a seven-night cruise on Virgin Voyages presents a unique and reasonably priced redemption option that is available to those who have entered the US credit card market.

Considering the fact that the number of points required can be typically earned from one credit card welcome bonus, and the fact that the cabin redemption is good for two passengers, this redemption option might be a slam dunk for those who are interested in exploring more of the world cruise-style.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each Virgin Red member can book up to four cabins when redeeming points. This means you can book cabins for other people who are traveling with you if you are feeling generous or are looking to burn some extra points.

As with any miles and points redemption, it depends on your travel goals. If we look at the redemption from a straight value perspective, you are getting good value out of your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points with this redemption.  However, I would only make the redemption if you like the idea of an adults-only cruise and being able to visit many destinations in a short period of time.

Sign up for Virgin Red and once logged in, you can visit the “Link Accounts” page to add your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account number. Note that you will be required to enter a US phone number to create a Virgin Red account.

Hi, the 80k point are per person? Thank you for share this!

The deal last year was 80,000 Virgin points for a double occupancy cabin. We are hoping to see these deals come back again this summer!

I found this offer last July 2023 and we booked a cruise for August. The Greek glow cruise. It was simply amazing. I can’t believe that it would cost me 80,000 points which was nothing. I am eagerly waiting for the next time they offer this I have points ready. I don’t care where I’m going just so long as I can be on the Virgin cruise again completely zero out-of-pocket !!!

Hey Serena,

Thanks for sharing your experience and I’m glad to hear you were able to make this booking happen! I agree, it is a stellar redemption for the low amount of points it requires.

I cant actually see the cruises that are available?

Then there probably aren’t any available for redemption currently.

I want to book a Virgin Cruise in Greece with my Capital One Venture X points, but I can’t seem to find where to do so. Is this offer only a few times a year? We are flexible. Thanks, Dan

Unfortunately there are no Virgin cruise offers at this point in time. We did see a couple in the summer of 2023, so hopefully more opportunities come back this year.

When will Virgin atlantic have cruises available to book with points again?

Not sure, there isn’t really a rhyme or reason outside of them most likely looking to fill sailings. I’d keep an eye on the site weekly to see if anything comes up.

Virgin Atlantic Holidays Points Plus Money

Another option to consider when booking your Virgin Voyages cruise is the “Points Plus Money” feature offered by Virgin Atlantic Holidays. This feature allows you to offset the cost of your cruise with a combination of points and cash. Here’s how it works:

  • Utilize the Points Plus Money feature: For every 3,000 points you redeem, you can reduce the cost by £16.50. This way, even if you don’t have enough points to cover the entire cost, you can still obtain a discount on your Virgin Voyages holiday.
  • Book your flight and cruise with Virgin Atlantic Holidays Customer Support Team: Contact the Virgin Atlantic Holidays Customer Support Team at 0344 472 9646. Ensure to provide your Flying Club membership number and specify the amount of points you wish to redeem. Your Virgin Points will be deducted from your account at the time of booking. The points you earn for the money part of the purchase will be added to your account within seven days of travel.

It should be noted that at £0.0055 per point, this is a pretty horrible redemption value for points.

Key Takeaways

  • Point redemptions for Virgin Voyages are only available during active Virgin Red promotions.
  • Accumulating points through various loyalty programs and transferring them to Virgin Atlantic, then to Virgin Red, is the pathway to booking your cruise with points.
  • Keeping a close eye on promotions and being ready to transfer and redeem points when the opportunity arises is crucial for successfully booking a Virgin Voyages cruise with points.

With the right strategy and timing, booking a Virgin Voyages cruise with points can lead to significant savings, making your sea voyage an even more rewarding experience.

In conclusion, booking a Virgin Voyages cruise with points, if you are quick and get one of the previous 80k point offers, is a fantastic way to make your dream vacation more affordable. By following these steps and staying vigilant for Virgin Red promotions, you can set sail on a luxurious Virgin Voyages cruise without breaking the bank. Bon voyage!

Virgin Voyages is an adults-only cruise line that offers a premium product with lots of inclusions. It has often been cited as the cruise line for people who don’t really like cruises. Virgin’s unique approach to cruising has made it a major player in the industry since its first ship debuted in 2021.

In this post, we’ll explore what makes Virgin Voyages different and what you can expect on board, from the staterooms and dining to entertainment, activities, and loyalty program benefits.

Let’s jump in!

Virgin Voyages is a relatively new cruise line for adults only. With just 3 ships (1 more is coming in 2025), it’s not as big as cruise lines like Royal Caribbean , Carnival , or Disney Cruise Line , but it has gained a dedicated fan base since its first sailing in 2021.

What’s Included?

One of the things that makes Virgin Voyages different than many other big cruise lines is what’s included in the cost. Most cruise lines charge extra for things like Wi-Fi, specialty dining, drink packages, and group fitness classes, but that’s all included with a Virgin Voyages cruise.

  • 20 or more eateries on every ship (no additional charge for specialty restaurants)
  • Date changes (up to 45 days)
  • Drinks package including still and sparkling water, soda, drip coffee, juices (not pressed), and tea
  • Group fitness classes (yoga, spin High-Intensity Interval Training, themed classes, etc.)
  • Name changes (up to 48 hours before sailing)

Virgin is also known for what it doesn’t have: buffets, extra charges for specialty restaurants, designated dining times, or formal nights.

It can be tricky to get good value booking cruises with points , but it can be done, and Virgin Voyages is a great option. Select sailings on Virgin Voyages can be booked with Virgin Red points , and we’ve seen incredible limited-time deals recently.

Book Virgin Voyages cruises with Virgin Red points

Virgin Red points are easy to earn. First, Capital One Miles and Citi ThankYou Rewards transfer directly to Virgin Red.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points also transfer to Virgin Red. And Virgin Atlantic points are so easy to earn — American Express Membership Rewards , Chase Ultimate Rewards , and Bilt Rewards all transfer 1:1 to Virgin Atlantic.

If you are planning to book a Virgin Voyages cruise with cash instead of points, be sure to use one that rewards general travel purchases. The Chase Sapphire Reserve ® , American Express ® Green Card *, and the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Card all earn 3 points per dollar spent on travel purchases, including cruises.

*The information regarding the American Express ®  Green Card was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.

Guests can prepurchase a Bar Tab , a credit to use on board (and at the Beach Club at Bimini) on drinks up to 24 hours before sailing. Bar Tabs can be used for alcoholic (cocktails, beer, and wine) and nonalcoholic beverages (fresh-pressed juices, specialty coffees, mocktails).

This is not a traditional bar package that you may find on other cruise lines. A Bar Tab can be used for any premium drink for yourself, a cabin mate, or a new friend, and unlike drink packages on other cruise lines, not everyone in a cabin has to purchase one.

You get bonus onboard credit when purchasing a Bar Tab of at least $200.

All group fitness classes are included on Virgin Voyages . This includes everything from guided meditation and yoga to HIIT, spinning, and boxing. Each ship also has a Virgin-red track that circles the upper deck.

Beauty and Spa

Each Virgin Voyages ship has an onboard spa offering a variety of treatments, including massages and facials. There’s also a mud room, salt room, sauna, steam room, hot and cold plunge pools, and heated marble hammam benches.

Virgin Voyages Spa

Each ship has a blowout bar ( Dry Dock ) and a barber shop ( Stubble & Groom ). The Tune Up offers manicures and pedicures, as well as medi-spa treatments like Botox, fillers, and IV therapy.

One of the most unique features of a Virgin Voyages ship is Squid Ink , the onboard tattoo parlor.

You won’t find traditional Broadway-style shows on a Virgin Voyages cruise. Instead, you find unique events, including the cruise line’s iconic Scarlet Night , a festival-like, shipwide party with live performances where everyone’s encouraged to wear red.

Virgin Voyages Scarlet Night

In addition to performances, there are some entertainment spots to explore during your cruise:

  • The Red Room : A live performance space that transforms into a late-night dance space
  • The Groupie : A bookable space for private karaoke
  • Voyage Vinyl : An onboard record shop with music magazines and listening stations
  • The Arcade : Vintage arcade games for your inner child
  • The Social Club : A space featuring games like air hockey, shuffleboard, and foosball

Each Virgin Voyages ship has a casino with slots, blackjack, craps, poker, and roulette. The ship holds free gaming lessons on embarkation day.

Virgin Voyages Sea Rollers levels

The Roller Rewards Program is the casino’s loyalty program. As soon as you start playing, you’re automatically enrolled and can earn free play and perks like free drinks and even free cruises. There are 5 levels of membership within the Roller Rewards Program.

Virgin Voyages Sailing Club is the cruise line’s loyalty program. You automatically become a member after your first Virgin Voyages cruise. There are 3 levels of membership.

Only full-fare sailings qualify for the Virgin Voyages Sailing Club. Any discounted sailing, including gifted sailings, comped casino cruises, or cruises booked with Virgin Points, don’t count toward elite status.

Anyone who’s earned Sea Blazers and Sea Rovers status (based on sailings from 2021 to 2023) receives Deep Blue Extra perks through 2025.

Virgin Voyages is a unique cruise line that has a lot of inclusions. Guests don’t pay extra for things like Wi-Fi, group fitness classes, or specialty dining. Even though this cruise line has only been sailing since 2021, it has gained a loyal following of cruisers who appreciate this untraditional approach. For points and miles enthusiasts, Virgin Voyages is a favorite because these cruises can be booked with Virgin Points, often at incredible rates.

1. Booking Your Voyage

How do i book a virgin voyage vacation.

There are two main ways to find the best deal and plan your trip;

1. Direct With Virgin Voyages

The Virgin Voyages website has listings of all upcoming itineraries, you can book directly with Virgin Voyages in your local currency. You can additionally add extras like travel insurance. Note that when booking directly with Virgin Voyages you will need to contact them to make any changes or ask any questions about your booking, you may prefer to use a travel agent if you like booking a whole package with more of a personal touch;

2. Book With Your Preferred Travel Agent

If you like your vacation to be compiled by experts it’s a good idea to employ the help of a travel agent. VV Insider do not name or recommend any individual travel agents as we are an independent publication. We do, however recommend looking for travel agents that have a gold ‘First Mate’ accreditation with Virgin Voyages.

Being a ‘First Mate’ means they understand the brand and will be able to help you better than the larger, impersonal brands. Travel agents will often be able to offer extras like additional on board credit that Virgin Voyages cannot offer direct.

Getting The Best Deal

Regardless how you choose to book – booking early is the best way to make sure you get the best value. We have seen instances of some voyages doubling in cost just a few weeks after they are listed for sale.

Keep an eye on Virgin Voyages social media and subscribe to our emails to know when Virgin Voyages deals are made live. These deals can be booked direct, or with your preferred travel agent.

2. What is Included?

Virgin Voyages has one of the more generous inclusive offerings among the large cruise line operators. Here are some highlights of what you get included in your cruise fare;

  • Food at every restaurant on board
  • All snacks and quick-serve food around the ship like pizza and ice cream
  • Soft drinks, filter coffee and tea
  • All tips and gratuities
  • Events and shows on board

virgin voyages book with points

In general you will still need to pay for ; alcohol, excursions (Virgin Voyages call these ‘Shore Things’), ‘Treat Yourself’ premium dishes, up-charge events and merchandise.

There is even more included in your fare as well as some key exclusions you should know about in our detailed ‘What is Included’ guide .

3. Spending On Board the Ship

The band – smart wristband.

Although much is included in your cruise fare; it is likely you will need to pay for some things while you are on board. For this reason you will be given a band that you wear on your wrist. You will use this band as a room key, ID and ‘credit card’ while you are on the ship. When paying for something you will tap your wrist band and it will be automatically charged to your cabin account.

Three Virgin Voyages® bands, 2 red and one balck rope-style bands each with an anchor-shapes clasp

Paying For Your Purchases

Before you embark you will be asked to register a credit card to your Virgin Voyages booking. Virgin will hold a $250 safety deposit on this card in anticipation of any spending. You can clear a portion or all of your balance before you disembark by paying cash (US dollars only) to Sailor Services. If there is a balance remaining at the end of your voyage it will be automatically withdrawn from the credit card. If you have not spent $250 then Virgin will release the hold on your credit card within a few days of you leaving the ship.

On Board Credit

When you book your cruise you’re often given incentives and deals where you are given either promotional Sailor Loot or Bar Tab – if you’re lucky you might get both! You might wonder what this means, here’s a breakdown;

  • Sailor Loot – This is a credit balance on your on-board spending account. It can be used for any kind of on-board spending; premium drinks, spa treatments, merchandise, paid-for events like mixology, bingo etc. (You can also use Sailor Loot in the Casino with a few caveats on withdrawals, contact Virgin Voyages for up-to-date information about this)
  • Bar Tab – This is credit that is for beverages only. When you buy a drink on board the cost will be withdrawn from your Bar Tab first. If you run out of Bar Tab you will then use any remaining Sailor Loot. If you do not have Sailor Loot then it will be debited from your on board account. As a bonus – if you plan to spend more on drinks during your cruise you can buy additional Bar Tabs before you sail so you can save money .

Glasses of champagne, tea and a tower of food

4. Additional Packages

There are currently two extra packages you can add to your trip if you want to get some extra special treatment when you sail. You can add either of these packages by speaking to who booked your trip.

  • Splash of Romance – A package for couples (although you can buy this solo too) which includes a bottle of champagne, spa access, an exclusive party. You will also get special sweet treats delivered to your cabin, early boarding and fresh pressed juices every day.
  • A Splash for Your Bash – A package for when you’re sailing with people in other cabins and have something to celebrate! If you buy this package as a group each cabin will get a bottomless brunch, a specially curated dinner party with inclusive champagne.

A couple smiling at each other against an idyllic beach background

5. Booking Restaurants and Events

To make booking for dining and events you will need the Virgin Voyages app .

Fair warning: the app is known to be unreliable – if you are having problems with it you may need to close it and open it again.

Booking Dining

There are no additional-cost specialty restaurants on board, all restaurants are included in your fare. To keep things fair, there is a limit to how many times you can book each restaurant, visit our guide for more details on this exclusion .

Top tip: Try to anticipate times where you will want to see shows and entertainment. Between 7pm and 9pm is normally a good time to book, but check the entertainment line-up to be sure.

You can book dining ahead of your voyage using the app, the booking window depends on the type of cabin you chose;

  • Sailors in non-suite cabins can book dining 45 days before the voyage .
  • Rockstars (suite-level) sailors can book 60 days before the voyage .

Sailing with a larger group? Check our restaurant booking guide for information on how to book for more people.

Booking Events

Ahead of your sailing you will see the ‘Line-up’ in the Virgin Voyages app start to fill with a number of daily events including headline shows , classes, wellness activities and more.

Generally, you will need to be on-board before you are able to book these events. Some events will also be “First Come First Serve” which will be noted on the event and a line will form ahead of these events, arrive early to avoid disappointment.

We have a guide on how to make sure you secure the bookings for events you don’t want to miss.

Booking Shore Excursions

Shore Excursions or Shore Things as Virgin Voyages calls it are exclusive tours at ports of call. You can book these pre-boarding or on board. Check out our guide on when shore excursion bookings opens and how to book.

6. What to Pack

The is no dress code on board Virgin Voyages, there is a ‘come as you are’ vibe and as long as you’re not wearing anything offensive or too revealing you can dress as you wish. This is true of the restaurants and bars on board too, you can dress up if you like but your are equally welcome in t-shirt and shorts!

For general advice on packing for a cruise we find this packing guide from Cruise Critic very useful. Keep in mind that the electrical Outlets on board may also be different from your home country.

Packing for Themed Nights and Special Events

Depending on the ship you have booked, there are different themed nights and parties that you may want to have fun dressing up for. These themed events are completely optional but many guests find it fun to take part in. Highlights;

  • Scarlet Night – Pack something red and fabulous to wear on Scarlet Night
  • PJ Party – Pack some fun PJs to dance the night away at the PJ Party
  • Club Nights – Depending on your ship there will be 2 or 3 club nights with themes you can dress to match.

To make this easy and to spark some inspiration; we have a full guide on what outfits to pack for each event .

7. Online Check-in

You can check in for your voyage as soon as your booking is confirmed, you don’t need to wait. You can check in using the Virgin Voyages app.

When you check in you will be able to select a port arrival time. The earlier you check in, the more port arrival times you will be able to select from and will be able to board early. If only later times are available it could be worth looking at other ways to board early .

You can add your payment information . This is where you can register a credit card against your booking for on-board spending.

Uploading Mandatory Information

You will receive emails from Virgin Voyages to notify you when you can upload more information. You need to upload a photo of your photo ID (normally a Passport, government ID for USA-only sailings). Then, upload a selfie so they can identify you on board. Lastly, you will need to fill in a medical questionnaire close to your sail date.

Check Your Cabin Before You Sail

Ahead of your sailing date Virgin will send you a notification letting you know which cabin you have been assigned. When you get your cabin number you can check on our VV Insider Cabin Finder tool to see if there are any good or bad points before you sail.

8. Embarkation

In preparation for your sailing we recommend joining the Facebook group that is specific to your sailing. This way you can meet fellow sailors before you sail and share tips on the destinations. You can find the group for your sailing here .

Getting to The Port

We always recommend getting to your departure port one day ahead of your sailing, to avoid missing the boat if your travel plans are interrupted. Staying in a hotel near the port is recommended for the night before your sailing.

You should aim to get to the port within your port arrival time slot. The arrival time will be shown in the Virgin Voyages app.

Do not arrive to the port early unless you qualify for early boarding through Sailing Club perks , Rockstar or Splash of Romance . By arriving at the port during your allocated slot you can help reduce queuing and wait times for other sailors.

What to do With Your Luggage

Virgin Voyages do not send luggage tags ahead of your sailing. Bring your luggage to the port and staff at the port will add tags to your luggage for you. Your luggage will be taken from you before you check in, it will start making its way to your cabin.

There are some limitations on what you can pack , you can however, bring 2 unopened bottles of wine per cabin . Wine must be brought on board in your carry-on luggage or it will be confiscated.

Checking In

Follow the correct signage for your sailor status, in general there are separate lines for;

  • General Boarding – This is the majority of sailors unless you fall into one of the following priority groups;
  • Sailing Club – Members of the Virgin Voyages loyalty programme
  • Rockstar Quarters and VIPs – Those in suite-level cabins or VIPs that have been invited on board (including social media influencers and industry partners)

You will need to show the check-in staff your ID document. The staff may need to take your photograph if it’s not in the system already. You will be issued your wristband. Red bands are given to most sailors. Black wristbands are given to Rockstars and VIPs.

Boarding the Ship

You will be invited to start boarding in the order you have checked in. As you enter the ship, your wristband will be scanned. The security team will check you match the photo on their system.

You will be greeted by a number of shipboard staff and normally at least one member of The Happenings Cast . The staff will guide you to an area where you can start exploring the venues on the ship .

When Will My Cabin Be Ready?

Another area Virgin Voyages exceeds expectations – your cabin is always ready immediately as you board. You can head straight to your cabin to drop any carry-on luggage you might have.

When you reach your cabin this is a good opportunity to watch the safety demonstration video. It is mandatory to watch this video, you can either do this on the in-room TV or in the Virgin Voyages app.

virgin voyages book with points

9. First Day On Board

Safety first.

International Maritime Law dictates that you must visit your muster station before the vessel can sail. You will find the name of your muster station in the Virgin Voyages app. There will be a ship-wide announcement when it is time to visit your muster.

When you arrive at your muster station you will check-in with your wristband. You will need to watch a short demonstration of the lifejackets. Once this is over you can start enjoying your vacation!

Make Your Bookings

Now you are on board you can start booking activities and events. You should also check the app for additional dining times as some restaurant booking slots are only made available while on board.

If you are struggling to use the app or would like to make special or larger booking you can find people to help in The Roundabout or The Chart Room – including Shore Things (excursions) staff and restaurant managers.

Late in the afternoon you should start heading to the pool deck . The Sail Away Party is an excellent way to start your voyage. Free bubbles will be served around the pool and there is a special toast to celebrate sailing ahead, courtesy of The Happenings Cast .

The resident DJ will get the party started with poolside dancing and good vibes from the mingling Happenings Cast around the Aquatics Club .

Dancers dressed in red in a pool

First Night Activities

A great way to meet fellow sailors on the first night is by joining The Grog Walk , a bar crawl led by members of The Happenings Cast. With games and activities designed to get you talking to other sailors, this is a great way to socialise.

Another first night must-do is the PJ Party . A ’90s and ’00s inspired disco with dancing and singing provided my The Happenings Cast. There is even an impromptu PJ competition for those that want to shine brightest! First Night Overview

10. Restaurants Overview

Virgin Voyages is becoming famous for their incredible food options. Here are the main restaurants;

An oval plate with grilled lobster and a smaller pink bowl with a lobster salad inside.

Other Food Options

Restaurants are not the only places to dine on board. The Galley is Virgin Voyages’ answer to the ship’s buffet. Rather than being a traditional buffet, quick-food options are available in a food court style venue. All-day-breakfast options are available in The Galley 24/7.

There is also a huge number of quick-service food options available around the ship including pizza , ice cream , hot dogs, wings, nachos , poke bowls, bao buns and so much more. See a list of all quick-serve food places on board .

11. Bars and Venues Overview

The ship is packed full of stunning venues offering drinks and entertainment for your whole voyage.

Featured Venues

While there are many smaller bars and venues that you will come across during your voyage, the main venues are listed here to help you pinpoint the most visited entertainment areas:

An s-shaped banquet table in a venue with club lighting

Other Bars and Venues

There is much more to explore;

  • See a list of all the bars on board
  • See a list of all the show venues on board

12. My Next Virgin Voyage

No doubt you will have loved your first Virgin Voyages cruise. You’ll want to do it all again!

While you are on board you can speak with the team at Get Lost – a desk centrally located on the ship . The team will help you to book your next voyage. Alternately, you can book a MNVV (My Next Virgin Voyages) which acts as a placeholder. Once you buy a MNVV you will lock in the on-board deal for any sailing in the next 24 months.

The great thing here is you can link your favourite travel agent to anything you book on board so you can still get that personal touch ahead of your next sailing.

You can read more about MNVV (My Next Virgin Voyage) in our comprehensive guide .

13. Disembarking

If you are staying on the ship for the next voyage, this is called a ‘back-to-back sailing’ (B2B’). You can following our guide to B2B sailings if this applies to you, otherwise;

All good things must come to an end.

On the last night of your voyage you can place any packed luggage outside of your cabin. They will be collected and placed in the arrival port for you, this is optional.

You can just take your luggage with you when you leave the ship. This is useful if;

  • you prefer to have more time to pack
  • need to leave the ship extra early in the morning, or;
  • want to keep a hold of your own luggage

You will get an alert in the Virgin Voyages app toward the end of your voyage. This will invite you to select a disembark time slot. The quicker you book this, the more time slot choices you will have.

Although you book a time in the app. This is not strictly enforced. Do not panic if you are running late on the day or want to leave earlier.

All guests must have departed the ship before 10:30. From this time the next voyage will be beginning so all non-sailors must be off the vessel. There will be a ship-wide announcement letting you know when you must leave.

Book Virgin Voyages with Points

Virgin Voyages has brought back a popular promotion where you can book some fantastic cruises using Virgin Points.

The pricing on these cruises is higher than when they first ran this deal last year. However, with two transfer bonuses from American Express and Chase, it is still a pretty good deal for cruise lovers.

Mediterranean sailings are available for Virgin Red members for 160,000 Virgin Points. Lucky Virgin Red sailors will be able to embark on an award-winning, seven-night Mediterranean voyage departing from either Barcelona or Athens. Virgin Voyages offers itineraries with departure dates Sunday-Sunday from May through mid-October for Barcelona sailings and May through to the end of July for Athens sailings.

For those ready to sail the Med as soon as possible, Virgin Red has launched a flash sale for seven-night sailings from Barcelona, departing on Sunday 12 May or Sunday 19 May, for the discounted points price of just 120,000 Virgin Points.

F ive-night Caribbean sailings departing from Miami between June and September are also available on Virgin Red for 115,000 Virgin Points.

And last but not least, you can also book transatlantic sailings from Barcelona (14 nights) for 280,000 Virgin Points or from Athens (16 nights) for 320,000 Virgin Points.

Key Details

Cabins are Central Sea Terrace or The Sea Terrace on Scarlet Lady or Resilient Lady, and will be determined by Virgin Voyages according to availability. The price is per cabin (one or two persons). There is no single sailor supplement available.

Virgin Red recommends that bookings should be completed no later than five business days before the date of travel.

Get More Value with Transfer Bonuses

This deal gets better if you have Chase Ultimate Rewards or American Express Membership Rewards. Both programs are offering a 30% bonus.

That means that f ive-night Caribbean sailings departing from Miami would cost you just 89,000 points or two people. Seven-night sailings from Barcelona would cost 93,000 points.

Amazing deal alert: Get an 8-night cruise for 2 people for just 100,000 points

Gene Sloan

Got 100,000 points to burn in the Virgin Red loyalty program? If you act fast, you can snag an eight-night Caribbean cruise out of Miami that normally costs around $3,400 or more for two people traveling together.

You also can get a five-night cruise for two out of Miami that normally costs around $2,300 or more for 80,000 points. In addition, a seven-night cruise for two in the Mediterranean is available for just 100,000 points.

The limited-time offer is available for Virgin Voyages sailings departing now through June 30.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

For your points, you'll get accommodations for two on Virgin Voyages ' Miami-based Scarlet Lady or Barcelona-based Valiant Lady in a Sea Terrace cabin — Virgin's fancy way of saying a cabin with a private balcony. That's a big upgrade from the ship's entry-level Insider cabins, which are in the interior of the ship and don't have windows. It's also a step up from the vessel's window-but-no-balcony Sea View cabins.

virgin voyages book with points

You'll also get all your meals included, as well as free onboard Wi-Fi, gratuities and entrance to all onboard shows.

Sea Terrace cabins on eight-night sailings out of Miami between now and June start at around $3,400 for two, including taxes and fees. Some departures over popular weeks start at even higher prices.

Related: I've been on more than 150 cruise ships; here's what I thought of my 1st Virgin sailing

TPG values Virgin points at 1.5 cents each, so by our estimate, 100,000 points would be the equivalent of $1,500. That makes this a very good deal, as you're essentially getting the cruise for less than half the normal price.

Sea Terrace cabins on five-night sailings out of Miami between now and June start at around $2,300 for two, including taxes and fees. And that's for a handful of the least expensive departures. Many five-night departures start at higher rates.

At TPG valuations, the 80,000 points needed for such sailings would be the equivalent of $1,200 — nearly half the cost of paying with cash.

Sea Terrace cabins on seven-night Mediterranean sailings out of Barcelona between now and June start at around $2,800 for two, including taxes and fees. At TPG valuations, the 100,000 points needed for such sailings would be the equivalent of $1,500 — nearly half the cost of paying with cash.

Itineraries available as part of the promotion include:

  • Eight-night Eastern Antilles sailings from Miami to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Croix; and Bimini, Bahamas.
  • Seven-night The Irresistable Med sailings from Barcelona to Toulon, France; Carrara, Italy; Ajaccio, Corsica; and Ibiza, Spain.
  • Five-night Riviera Maya sailings from Miami to Cozumel, Mexico, and Bimini.

Don't have enough Virgin points to book the offer — or any at all? You can still get in on this deal by using points from one of several major credit card programs. You can transfer points to the Virgin Red program from the American Express Membership Rewards , Bilt Rewards , Capital One , Chase Ultimate Rewards and Citi ThankYou programs.

To take advantage of the offer, you first must head to the Virgin Red app and tap "redeem" where you see it promoted. This will deduct the necessary points from your Virgin Red account. A member of the Virgin Red team will then email you an access key within 48 hours that you will use to book a cabin using the points at the Virgin Voyages website.

Among caveats to the offer:

  • There are a limited number of cabins available as part of the offer.
  • A sailing on May 17 is not available as part of the offer.
  • Passengers will be assigned a Sea Terrace or Limited View Sea Terrace cabin based on availability.
  • The points price is per cabin, whether there are one or two people staying in the cabin.
  • All passengers must be over 18 years of age.
  • Each Virgin Red member can book up to four cabins as part of the offer, but the booking party must check in at the same time.
  • The Virgin Red member responsible for the booking must present their Virgin Red app to verify their eligibility before boarding.

Also note that cabins booked under the offer cannot be upgraded, unless Virgin Voyages subsequently offers the chance to do so.

Despite being less than a month since the last promotion, Virgin has launched a new offer letting travelers book Virgin Voyages cruises with Virgin points. Until this deal sells out, Virgin Red members can book a four-night Caribbean cruise for just 95,000 Virgin points.

Don't have Virgin points already? Don't worry. Virgin points are some of the easiest points to accumulate in the points and miles world.

In fact, by utilizing a Chase transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic  or an ongoing Amex Membership Rewards transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic , you can pay as little as 74,000 points for an all-inclusive Virgin Voyages cruise!

Let's show you how to take advantage of this promotion.

Page Contents

Virgin Red Rewards Program

4-night caribbean cruises departing from miami, 14-night transatlantic cruise from barcelona to miami, 16-night transatlantic cruise from rome to miami, terms and conditions, dropping the price from 95k to 74k.

Virgin Red is the joint rewards program for all Virgin products and services — flights, trains, hotels, shopping, etc. The program started in February 2021 in the U.K. and expanded to include the U.S. in December 2021.

Travelers have plenty of ways to collect Virgin Red points. You can earn 2,000 bonus points on stays at any Virgin Hotel (located in Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Nashville, and New Orleans, plus Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland). Just like other airline shopping portals , members can earn points on their purchases through the Virgin Shops Away shopping portal .

However, the easiest way for most readers to accumulate Virgin points is to transfer points from one of the following rewards programs:

Most of these partnerships are with Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, instead of Virgin Red directly. To use Flying Club points to book Virgin Red cruises, you'll first need to link your Flying Club account to Virgin Red .

Virgin Red Cruise offer for 4-night Caribbean cruise.

Book Virgin Voyages Cruises With Virgin Red Points Promotion

Currently, Virgin Red members can book one of three Virgin Voyages cruises using points:

  • 4-night Caribbean cruise from Miami for 95,000 Virgin points (sailings between June and September)
  • 14-night transatlantic cruise from Barcelona to Miami for 280,000 Virgin points (sailing departs October 27)
  • 16-night transatlantic cruise from Rome to Miami for 320,000 Virgin points (sailing departs November 28)

This price is per cabin and includes up to two passengers. All Virgin Voyages cruises are adult-only and all-inclusive , including all food, soft drinks, tips, group fitness classes, entertainment, Wi-Fi…everything except for alcoholic beverages! The only out-of-pocket costs are around $150–$200 in port taxes and fees on Caribbean cruises only.

There is no deadline for booking these cruises. However, the cruises are based on availability, and the cruise you may sell out if you wait.

To redeem this offer, sign into Virgin Red and head to one of the landing pages linked above. After making a purchase, you will receive an access code that you can use to book your cruise directly with Virgin Voyages. At this time, it is unknown whether you will be refunded the points if the cruise you want is no longer available.

Here's a further breakdown of the cruises available:

  • Voyages are on the Valiant Lady
  • Departures between June 1 and September 30, 2024
  • Approximately $150–$200 in additional taxes and fees apply to this cruise.
  • Ports of call include Key West and Bimini with one at-sea day.
  • Voyage is on the Resilient Lady
  • Departs Barcelona on October 27, 2024
  • Ports of call include Casablanca, Las Palmas, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife before an 8-day crossing to Miami.
  • Voyage is on the Scarlet Lady
  • Departs Rome on November 28, 2024
  • Ports of call include Barcelona, Malaga, Madeira, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife before an 8-day crossing to Miami.
  • These promotions are exclusive to Virgin Red members, but it's free to join Virgin Red.
  • Flights and transfers are not included. It's a good idea to get confirmation of your cruise before booking your flights.
  • As these are adult-only cruises, all passengers must be at least 18 years old.
  • You'll be booking into a Central Sea Terrace cabin (or The Sea Terrace , depending on availability)
  • Purchased “Access Keys” cannot be used in conjunction with any offer, discount, or credits.
  • The price is per cabin (one or two persons). There is no single sailor supplement available.

You'll notice that the headline mentions 74,000 points, yet the prices we've highlighted start at 95,000 points. That's thanks to current transfer bonuse from  Chase (through June 15, 2024).

Both offer a 30% transfer bonus, meaning transferring 74,000 points from either program (or a combination of the two) would give you 96,200 Virgin Points — enough to book one of the four-night Caribbean cruise packages.

If you can stack this deal with one of the ongoing transfer bonuses, it almost becomes too good to refuse — especially if you have a healthy stash of transferrable points.

And if this cruise doesn't align with your travel plans, it's possible that future ones with discounted pricing will. That means it's a great idea to keep this page bookmarked. We'll keep updating it as long as Virgin keeps the deals flowing.

Is this a current deal/article? All of the comments are from March of this year indicating the deal has sold out. Wondering if it was reprised.

' data-src=

This is an evergreen post that we update with the latest offerings. We just updated this post on May 26, 2023.

' data-src=

It seems this deal is no longer available

Thanks for flagging this Jordan. Indeed, it looks like the promotion must have sold out.

' data-src=

what is the cancelation policy– how many days before your cruise can you get your points refunded if you decide that you no longer want to go on the cruise?

Seems that Virgin Voyages’ cancellation policy would take effect. They allow free cancellations within 7 days of booking or more than 120 days of sailing. So, it seems this would be effectively noncancellable.

' data-src=

Does “within 7 days of booking” take precedence? Like, can I book and decide within 7 days if I want to go and then cancel if not?

Yes, but I’m unsure how this would work with points bookings. Presumably you’d get your Virgin points back. But that’s not confirmed on the website.

' data-src=

We are booked on the May 14th French Daze and Ibiza Nights cruise. We have paid in full. Can we change to using Virgin Red Points?

Good question. I’m assuming that you won’t be able to change your existing booking to points. But if your booking is fully refundable, you could cancel and refund it and rebook with points. Just note that can be risky.
