Passports and Visa

All visitors to Israel must hold a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date they are departing the country. People with no nationality must hold a valid laissez-passer, as well as a visa back to the country that issued it.

Visitors are entitled to remain in Israel up to three months from the date of their arrival, in accordance with the conditions of the visa issued to them. Visitors intending to work in Israel must submit a request to the Ministry of the Interior for a special visa.

Israel no longer stamps passports at airports and most Land Crossings. Nonetheless, because at times technical difficulties arise, and at times, the border control must revert to back to the method of stamping passports, we recommend that tourists continuing from Israel on to Arab countries officially request that an Israeli stamp does not appear on their passport. The tourist must notify the clerk of this request before documents are stamped.

The “Electronic Gate Pass”

In accordance to section 13 of the law regarding entrance to Israel of 1952, an official inspector or police officer can request identification and proof of legal status in Israel. With this in mind, at a press of a button the Border Control station will print a card including the principle details of the traveler as in the first page of the passport. The card will also depict the date of arrival and visa information. This card is called The “Electronic Gate Pass” and it is a new and modern technological system instrumental in meeting the needs of the various Immigration, security, Airport and Tourism authorities as well as providing the tourist with the credentials necessary to prove his visa status. The “Electronic Gate Pass” replaces the system whereby passports were stamped. At the airport, this card allows the traveler to exit the arrival terminal without further delays.

The Gate Pass is an official form of identification while in Israel. We ask all tourists to keep the card at hand at all times as proof of their visa status. At the airport and designated Land Crossings, this card allows the traveler to exit the arrival terminal and continue to the luggage pickup area.

The tourist is asked to keep the card at hand at all times.

Tourist Visas

We welcome visitors to Israel. Many countries have a Visa Waiver Program with Israel, which allows their citizens to visit Israel without a visa arranged in advance. Before embarking on a trip, visitors desiring to stop in Israel on their way to other destinations must check if they need a prearranged tourist visa. The list of countries in the following link specifies from which countries tourists are required to present a prearranged visa.

https://www.gov.il/en/subjects/certificates_and_passports/tourist_visas

All Visa Waiver Program travelers must present a machine-readable passport at the port of entry in order to enter Israel without a prearranged visa; otherwise, a visa is required. This applies to tourists arriving with a passage card from countries with a Waiver Program.

Extension of Your Stay Your visa can be extended (fee required) at the Ministry of the Interior office closest to you, please call their call center at: *3450 or dial 12223450.

The online application for a tourist visa to Israel from India consists of numerous steps that must be completed according to the instructions. You must ensure that you meet the criteria at each stage in order to avoid having your visa application refused.

Where to Apply for the Israel Tourist Visa for Indian Citizens

You must apply for the visa by filling out the application form on Israel VAC's website. You must meet all of the standards, and your documents must be verified. At times, the procedure may appear cumbersome, and the requirements required may appear tough to do on your own. In such instances, professional visa counselling from visa agencies may be considered. This will allow you to have your documents processed properly, and the procedure may even be faster than the standard method. This eliminates the possibility of visa denial.

E-visa Liberalization

  • Home › Visa Services › E-visa Liberalization

In view of the huge popularity of e-visa regime among foreigners and to further facilitate their travel to India, Government of India has decided to increase the duration of e-Tourist and e-Business visas from the existing 60 days with double entry to one year (upto 5 years for e-Tourist visa) with multiple entry. In addition, foreign nationals can also get E-Conference Visa, e-Medical Visa and e-Medical Attendant Visa through online.

The e-Visa will enable visitors to apply online and receive an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) within 4 days on the given email id. Foreign/Israeli nationals are allowed to enter into India on the new passport even if Electronic Travel authorization (ETA) (e-Visa) has been issued on the old passport, provided foreign nationals also carry the old passport on which ETA was issued.

For application and other information relating to e-Visa, kindly go the relevant link i.e. www.indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html

Note/Advisory - It has been brought to our notice that a number of fake visa websites are being operated on the internet, claiming to provide e-Tourist Visa services to visa applicants desiring to travel to India.  In the recent past, there have been an increasing number of complaints relating to fraud perpetrated by these websites.  In order to mislead applicants, some of these websites have created images and homepage templates mimicking the Government of India websites for e-Tourist Visa applicants.

It may kindly be noted that only Indian Government website dealing with e-Visa is  www.Indianvisaonline.gov.in .  No other website belongs to the Government of India and therefore should not be relied on for e-Tourist Visa services.

In view of the huge popularity of e-visa regime among foreigners and to further facilitate their travel to India,  Government of India has decided to increase the duration of e-Tourist and e-Business visas from the existing 60 days with double entry to one year with multiple entry . Accordingly, it has also been decided to remove the existing restriction that a foreigner can be allowed e-visa for a maximum of three times in a calendar year.

Foreign nationals are allowed to enter into India on the new passport even if Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)(e-visa) has been issued on the old passport, provided foreign nationals carry the old passport on which ETA was issued.

New Schengen Visa Rules for Indian Visitors: Key Questions Answered

Peden Doma Bhutia , Skift

April 23rd, 2024 at 5:39 AM EDT

Destinations value Indian travelers, but lengthy visa processing times lasting months act as significant deterrents. The adoption of these new regulations by European authorities reflects a proactive effort to tackle these concerns, aiming to boost tourism flow.

Peden Doma Bhutia

The European Commission has introduced a new visa “cascade” regime for Indian nationals applying for Schengen visas in India. This regime looks to offer longer-term, multi-entry Schengen visas, based on the applicant’s travel history.

Indian travel agents had been complaining of Schengen visa delays as a major challenge to the summer travel rush from India.

  • How does one qualify for the longer duration visas?

The European Commission can issue a two-year multiple-entry visa after a traveler “has obtained and lawfully used two visas within the previous three years.” This demonstrates a positive travel history and compliance with previous visa regulations.

Subsequently, after granting the two-year visa, authorities may issue a five-year visa if the passport has has adequate validity remaining.

  • What benefits do holders of these extended visas enjoy?

During the validity period of these visas, holders can enjoy travel rights equivalent to visa-free nationals within the Schengen area, allowing for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

  • Which countries are part of the Schengen area?

The Schengen area comprises 29 European countries, including 25 European Union member states: Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, and Sweden. Additionally, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland are also part of the Schengen area.

  • Are there any restrictions or conditions to these visas?

Schengen visas do not grant the right to work within the Schengen area and are for short stays only. Additionally, the visas are not purpose-bound, providing flexibility for travel within the specified period.

Industry Take

Skift also spoke to players in the Indian outbound travel industry to understand what has changed in the new Schengen visa rules.

  • How is this different from the earlier visas that Schengen countries offered? Don’t they already offer multi-entry visas with longer duration to Indians?

Mahendra Vakharia, managing director of Pathfinders Holidays, said there was no standard policy of Schengen states for issuing these long-term visas earlier. Switzerland, France, Netherlands, Italy and Spain usually issued long-term visa, but it was all subjective. “With this new policy it should be a standard rule now,” Vakharia said.

  • Travelers mainly complain of longer processing times, has that changed?

Here too, there is no standard processing time as it varies from country to country, according to Vakharia. “France and Spain have been processing visas within four days, and then there’s Croatia, which takes 60 days,” he said.

Processing time will not change as of now, it will take time for the visa rules to be enforced, said an industry source, while highlighting that the visa would be especially useful for corporate travelers.

What Promoted The Move?

Speaking on the possible motivations, Vakharia acknowledged various reasons, including administrative capacity constraints at embassies to cater to the huge inflow of applications.

“As there is an overwhelming demand from Indian travelers, the process of securing visa appointments has posed significant challenges , especially for travelers residing in cities lacking VFS Global centers,” he said.

The European Commission said in an statement that the decision reflects the EU-India Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility, aimed at fostering comprehensive cooperation on migration policy. Facilitating people-to-people contacts is a key aspect of this agenda, acknowledging India’s importance as an EU partner.

The decision also reflects a realization of the strong economic benefits derived through the spending power of Indian tourists. As Vakharia aptly puts it, “Why let go of the Golden Indian Goodie Bag?”

Israel has been on my wishlist for quite some time now. I had not gotten an opportunity to visit Israel till now. But then a golden opportunity called TBEX presented itself and I did not waste any time in securing a pass for myself. But I needed a visa and here I outline my experience getting an Israeli visa for Indians.

Application Procedure for Israeli Visa for Indians:

  • Login to Israel Visa for Indians website and download the application form. Also, download the checklist for your reference. This checklist will list down the Israel visa requirements for Indian citizens. If you are applying through a travel agent, please download a consent form as well.
  • A valid passport.
  • 2 passport sized photos. I went to the photo studio and asked them to give me photos for Israel visa.
  • Flight tickets showing to and fro travel from India to Israel and back.
  • Hotel accommodation for the entire duration of my stay.
  • Travel Insurance: I am an ICICI Lombard fan and I always purchase my travel insurance online.
  • A copy of your day to day itinerary in Israel and an invite letter, if applicable. Since I was going for a Travel bloggers conference, I attached documents showing that I was going to this conference and the various tours they have arranged for us.

  • Leave letter from employer mentioning dates and no objection to the travel.
  • Personal bank statements for the past three months. You cannot use an online statement. This needs to be attested by your bank. This is to show proof of funds.
  • A cover letter mentioning why you are going to Israel and your personal details. This has to be brief and concise. If any of the above documents are missing, then you have to mention in the cover letter.

Interview Procedure for Israeli Visa for Indians:

I applied through a travel agent and wish I had not done that. They were very lazy and they only submitted and collected my passport. It was a complete waste of time and I am going to continue applying on my own from next time.

The day after they submitted my passport, I got a call from the VFS centre asking me to call the Israeli consulate in Bangalore and schedule my interview. The VFS staff sent me the numbers and the timeframe to call the Israeli consulate. Since I was travelling then, I couldn’t get to this right away and I waited till I got back.

I called on a Monday and they gave me an interview slot for Wednesday and asked to be there at least 15 minutes in advance.

I have heard that the interview is not mandatory for all and it is at the discretion of the embassy to schedule one. There was some confusion regarding the conference and I feel that is the reason I was asked to attend the interview.

My Interview experience with Israel Visa for Indians:

I arrived quite early on the day of my appointment. Security is quite high here and you should not carry any laptops or other electronic items as well as all restricted items.

Once you reach the building, go to the intercom located at the side of the elevator and announce your arrival. Someone from the consulate will come personally downstairs to give you access to the elevator.

Once there, proceed for security check-in. Even though mobile phones are allowed until this point, you will have to lock your mobile phones in the lockers provided before proceeding to the interview room.

Once there, wait your turn till you are called. I was the only one there and they called me soon. There is a telephone on either side of the wall and you should use this to communicate with the interviewer.

The interview was pretty straightforward and she asked me few questions about why I was going to Israel. After I explained that I have a travel blog and that there is a travel blogging conference in Jerusalem, she asked me a few follow-up questions to that. She then went over all my documents and verified once again with me as to each and every document.

The whole interview took less than ten minutes and then she said that I will get to know the status within 3-5 working days.

Collecting the passport for Israel Tourist Visa for Indian passport holders:

Since I had done through a travel agent, I assumed that they will follow up. Next Tuesday when I called up to find out the status of my visa, the lazy travel agent asked me to contact the consulate. I called them and they confirmed that the visa is approved and asked me to collect the passport from the application centre.

I told the travel agent the same but it still took them 2 days to collect the passport and I could collect the passport only on Thursday. The approximate processing time for Israel visa for Indian citizens is around 7-10 days.

Please note that all Indian passports applied from India are stamped with an Israel visa for Indian citizens. We do not have an option to ask them for a separate slip of paper. You can additionally apply for a special passport only for Israel here . I have been told that it takes only 15 days to get a passport and it will be valid for one year.

While entering Israel, your passport is not stamped. You are given a piece of paper and this has to be shown while you are exiting the country as well as at other immigration points.

So, you can see how easy it is to get an Israeli Visa for Indians. Please do let me know in the comments if you have any more queries about getting a visa for Israel from India.

If you are a vegetarian, check out this post on what to eat in Israel as a vegetarian .

P.S: All photos are by my brother in law Nishanth Nottath and this is from their recent trip to Jordan in October 2016. All pictures are of the Dead Sea from the Jordan side.

Dismaying, to see how the travel agent was so lazy (that’s the only word I can think of for this). The agent could have and should have been more pro-active.

I want to apply for visit visa for Israel first time. Please show me easy way to process my visa.

Sounds lika a pain just to get the visa, hopefully the trip will be a lot nicer. I feel quite lucky, as I usually do not need to apply for a visa when traveling to most countries. But I’m not sure with Israel, maybe we Swedes also need to apply for one if we go.

Gosh, that doesn’t sound easy to me! I would have been nervous and very angry that I was paying the agent to do nothing. Hope TBEX is wonderful!

Israel is a beautiful and enigmatic country. The history and culture of Israel is at the same time fascinating and intriguing. Your shared experience of getting a visa for entry to this lovely country is really useful and is a good resource to refer to for planning a visit to Israel.

Wow, I had no idea it was such a pain to get a Visa. I’ve never had to apply for one before, but if I do hoping it goes a bit more smoothly for me. Will definitely have to check Israel though if/when I go. Nice article with helpful tips!

You have well explained procedure of the visa application in your post. It is really a pain in neck as well as so irritating when your travel agent behaves like that. Hope after that your experience was great at TBEX.

Sucks that you had such an annoying experience with the travel agent. I mean, that;s their job right? Wow, anyways, glad you learned from that and was able to get a visa no problem! Was the interview a little intimidating or no?

I shall wait to read about your TBEX experience. I have always wanted to attend but I was not sure if it would be of any help. Now, about the process for Visa. Looks like it is not much of an hassle to get it done on our own without any agent. Any way, they were not of much help for you. Btw, love the pictures.

I didn’t know there was so much involved in getting an Israeli visa. Do you think this would be the same for Canadians? I’ve never really looked into going to Irael but I know a few people that went to Tel Aviv and really enjoyed all the vegan food there.

Well, not very useful piece for me . but I would say these are some good news for the indians. they have a great chance to explore this part of the world. Cheers.

These agents! Less said the better. You have made my job more simpler now. I am going to stick to these guidelines. Have a great time at TBEX!

Thanks a lot for such an informative post. I have great interest in Israel. So much hstory and soo much conflict! May not be mmmediately but someday I will make it to that country and this post will then be useful.

I am not Indian but I can see ow this article can be very useful for people who want to travel to Israel. I was thinking of going to Tbex myself but I think I will go to the one in Dublin as it’s much closer (and cheaper to get to) to home. Have fun there, I heard it’s an amazing conference!

Have they printed Israel visa on your passport

Yes, they did.

Hey Soumya, Just wanted to know if you had to submit your confirmed round trip air tickets for the visa applying process.

Yes Kevin, I had submitted my round-trip air tickets as well.

I found some articles online (in news prints in March 2017) which say that you can request to have the visa stamped/pasted on a different piece of paper; could you tell me when you had your process done? And did you request for a paper-based visa and were denied or never even asked? Thanks!

Hi Akansha, I went in March 2017. When you are entering or exiting the country, they don’t stamp your passport. They give you a paper slip. But the initial visa is stamped for us, Indians. I did ask but that option was not available for us.

Hai madam how much days visa process israel how much india money Ecr pass port accept yes or no Please reply

It took me 10 days to get the Israeli visa. The visa fees is approximately 1700Rs for a tourist visa. I am not sure about ECR passport and you may have to check directly with the consulate. Best of luck with your visa process, Suresh.

Loved your detailed instructions. Thank you very much. I am wondering what is the harm in getting Israeli Visa stamped on my passport, or am I missing something!? Pls share your thoughts

Hi Shilpa, The only concern is that some countries like Saudi may not allow you to enter with an Israeli stamp.

Hi Nambiar, Not only saudi arabia but all GCC countries dont give visa or allow entry into their country if any passport they found with Israeli visa stamped or entry/exit stamp, entry of that passport holder is denied irrespective of nationality. so if a person is travelling or living in GCC countries, visiting Israel with stamped visa or exit/entry stamp is not advisable which please take note.

my friend had an interview, they kept his passport, 4 hours after interview they updated his application status that say to come collect passport. that mean he got the visa or not??

Only the visa consulate can answer that question. Good luck to your friend and hopefully he got his visa.

I just wanted to know if online hotel bookings are accepted or will I have to book through a travel agency?

I booked all my hotels online on my own. You don’t have to apply through a travel agency if you are based in India.

HI, could you please tell me how much funds do i need to show them while submitting the bank statements? Since I am booking tour for my mom, I want to know the procedure of how to show my bank statements as a sponsor of funds for her. Thanks

I had kept a balance of a little more than Rs 1 Lakh while applying for a visa. In your case, you may need to show documents to show that your mom is dependent on you for funds and you can mention the same in your cover letter.

Hi medam .. i need consultance number plzz

You can check out Akbar travels in Bangalore.

Hi soumya, im travelling to israel this month end. My visa is processed and it is exactly the way you have described here, except i filed it directly… even the travel agent i first approached proved to be lazy and unaware so i took my docs and filed. However i was not aware of the restriction of entry/travel to other countries if you travel to israel. Now that my visa is already stamped, i am worried about how or whether i will be allowed to travel to dubai/uae now?

I frequently travel to UAE and I haven’t faced any issues till date.

Hi Sowmya, I also have the same concern about travelling to the Middle East while having an Israel Stamp on your passport . So You used the same passport which had israeli stamp to travel to UAE ? The UAE immigration did not have any issues as in they did not see the stamp or they saw and did not have any issues with it ?

Yes, I have gone thrice to UAE after that and the immigration officers didn’t say anything about my Israeli visa. They glance through all your visas everytime.

Hi Soumya , Thanks for sharing your experience. Like you have mentioned paper Visa is not am option for Indians, then is there any way to avoid getting a Israeli Visa stamp on my passport ? As I have read Arab countries like Egypt may have a problem with Israeili Visa stamp. ANy thought on this from you will help.

I am sorry but I really can’t answer this question.

I am recently came back from Israel in August 18.Israel consulate advise me to ask another passport for only Israel from passport office. I did that and got another passport for one year.on which i stamped Israel visa and traveled also.If you have USA ,Canada visa and entry exit stamp than no need of hotel booking or air ticket.

Yes. If you only have a passport for Israel, you will still need to come back and get a new passport for other countries? That was not an option for me since I had other travels already planned.

may be they have not gone through your stamped visa of israel, if they find they can deny the entry..

I am sorry, your comment “Also, I do not think they issue a special Indian passport for travel to Israel anymore.” is NOT true.

My wife and I applied for a 2nd Indian passport for Israel visit today in Pune and were granted. It will have a validity of 1 year and our current passports are NOT CANCELED.

I received SMS in few minutes that Passport printing is initiate and it will be couriered soon.

Good to know, Anil. I applied over a year ago and it was not applicable back then. It looks like the circumstances have changed. Please do let us know the procedure for the same so that future readers can find it helpful.

I got a separate passport for Israel with a validity of one year only, not renewable and my current passport is also valid. The procedure is the same as a fresh passport. Remember you have to keep telling at every counter you visit, that you have applied passport for Israel. I got my passport in 15 days.

If you are travelling through tour operators then the Israeli immigration does not stamp visa on your passport but on a separate paper because of group visa and for the individual they do.

Hey Anil, Could you just tell me the procedure for applying Special Passport for Israel?

Hi Anil, What is the procedure to apply for this normal passport ? Kindly explain as there are many who are needing this option

Hey!!!!what is procedure to get the second indians passport please let me know.and how much time it toom

These are a few basic questions for Anil Hirlekar above. I live in Mumbai, and am travelling to London, middle of May this year, for 6 months. From there, I would like to visit Israel in June, as a tourist, for about 3 weeks, and return to London. I do NOT wish to have the Israel visa stamped on my passport, and therefore would like to have a 2nd passport, for the purpose of visiting Israel. If a 2nd passport is issued to me, can I retain my original passport also, in order to travel to London on it? 2ndly, what is the procedure for the application of the 2nd passport (is it very tedious?), and how long does it take to get one?

Hey, can we pay for the visa online? It says payment is accepted only in cash – how did you pay?

Hi, My travel agent made the payment on my behalf. As far as I remember, cash is mandatory.

Hi Soumya, Lovely article and you’ve clearly mentioned each and every detail which is very helpful. I want to know what is exact amount of funds that I need to deposit in my bank account to support myself financially in Israel. I want to know the minimum amount required for this.

And visa once I reach Israel I will be extending it for 3 more months. So, it will be 6 months stay in Israel, whereas visa is for 3 months when I start from India. Is it mandatory regarding flight tickets that I need to book the return journey after 3 months, or is it ok if I book the return ticket for my arrival in India at the end of 6 months. My concern is that if I book the flight tickets for arrival and return only for three months, thats a huge damage to my pocket If i am extending it for 3 more months. I am sure that I will be extending it for three more months.

Thank you for everything else the procedure you have shown are really helpful to me, I was following everything and these were the only doubts in my head.

Hoping to hear from you and It will really helpful for me if your share your thoughtd regarding these concerns.

I am really sorry. But I really can’t answer this query. Can’t you book refundable tickets?

Hi, you can book open ticket with validity of one year so you can change your return date easily…

Hi, buy open ticket with validity of one year ..so that you can change your return date easily over phone call..

Hi im an indian and I want to know if an indian citizen can get a visa for 3 months. Is it applicable for indians?

I think it is applicable. You can check with the consulate.

What is the amount towards insurance premium for 3 months tourist visa to Israel

I remember paying around Rs1500

I AM HOLDING SCHENJEN VISA AND FREQUENT TRAVELLER. NOW I WANT TO VISIT TO ISRAEL FOR BUSINESS MEET. IS THERE WILL BE ANY PROBLEM IN FUTURE IF I WANT TO TRAVEL EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AND USA. I KNOW THAT ARAB LEAGUE WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO ENTER IN THEIR COUNTRIES.

PLEASE COMMENT.

I have been to more than 10 European countries after my visit to Israel. USA should also not be a problem. I also frequently visit UAE. You will face problems only in countries like Iraq, Iran or Saudi.

Hi Soumya, Lovely article and you’ve clearly mentioned each and every detail which is very helpful. I want to know that i deposited 3laks rupees in my account which is iam not using this account frequently if i give this bank statement is it ok to give visa process or they check each transaction of last 3months. thanks in advance for your valuable answer.

I know they frown down on last-minute deposits.

iam sorry.. last minut deposit means… they check only last one or two weeks transactions or what? actually i use this account rarley but now transfed ammount to this account recently because it’s have international services so i want to use this account on my visit to Israel…is it fine? thank you

Then you may have to mention the same in your cover letter.

Hi soumya I wish to visit Israel and I have NRE account since nine month there is no transaction and I can deposit enough money but how much I have to deposit for visit visa

Sir, it is recommended that you have at least Rs 1 lakh balance in the account you are showing.

hi soumya, Two years back i went to Singapore on visit visa but due to insuficiant funds they refused my entry into singapoe they did not stamp on my passport does it effect on my visit to Israel at immigration point.

I really can’t comment since this depends on a case to case basis.

hi, this is very good ob done by you,and use full to me.my small dbouts pls , how can iget a tourist visa trhou any travel agents.how much total cost will be,iam an hindu religion can i get a visa ..

hi soumya… my small doubt… is it manadatory to attend the interview for visit visa… some agents r saying not require and some are saying…it’s mandatory. and some of them asking occupation proof is it also mandatory for visit visa. iam getting confused, for the visa processing. please give ur suggestion…

Hi Vikram It is dependent on the consulate. I had to attend the interview while a few of my friends didn’t have to. I submitted proof of my occupation and they did ask me about my business when I went for the interview.

How many days before I apply for Israel visa ? I am retired person bank account is good have any problems for visa ?

Sir, you should ideally apply at least 4 weeks before the intended day of travel. If your papers are all proper, then there should be no grounds for getting the visa approved. But it depends on the visa officers.

Hey, I am in the US and need to apply for a visitor visa to Israel, can i do it from US? I have an Indian Passport.

I had friends who applied from the Uk. So I believe it should be feasible from the US as well.

Thank you! Appreciate your help.

I have applied for B2 tourist visa at Kolkata visa application centre (with a well planned itinerary, confirmed flight tickets, hotel bookings, travel insurance and bank statement with more than 4 lakhs balance); and now I have been called at new delhi embassy for personal appearance with a notice of 2 days in between. This is ridiculous and not at all justified! Now I am worried about the loss of workday/travel expense from kolkata-delhi and of course time. I wish I shouldn’t have applied for the visa only! Not worth such hassle I guess

This is one reality of traveling with an Indian passport. We do not have it easy. I had to go for an interview too at last moment’s notice but for me, it was in the same city.

mansiz biswas. after all are you got the visa?

I am applying for Israel visa through a travel agent who says my old passport is also required to be submitted.can someone confirm.actually I have misplaced my old passport and just can’t find it.i have to fly out from delhi on 25 Dec 18.

I submitted my old passports. But if you have a valid reason for not submitting, I am sure you can mention that in your cover letter.

hello soumya, the application centre you mentioned; is it the Israel consulate?

Thanks, I found the application centre. Also was wondering about the visa interview and how hard would be it?

As long as you answer everything truthfully, you have nothing to worry. It may seem a little intimidating but you will be fine as long as you give honest replies.

Once you arrived there at the airport, was there further questioning?

I had to go through another level of questioning at Mumbai Airport while leaving India. This was done by the representatives of the airline, El Al Israeli Air. I have mentioned this in my ‘Planning a trip to Israel’ post. Similarly when I was departing Israel. No questioning when I arrived though.

Hi there My mother (indian passport holder)plans to visit israel with us for 7 days, and a 1 day side trip to Petra, Jordan’ Does she have to take a tourist Visa for Jordan too .?

Yes, she needs a visa for Jordan. But Indians have visa on arrival option for Jordan. Just make sure that your entry point allows for visa for arrival option.

Hi Soumya. Thanks for sharing this information.

Hi Soumya, I’ll be travelling to Jordan(5days) and also Israel(5days). I have 3hrs layover in Riyad. Please let me know do I face any problem because of Israel Visa in Riyad??

Hi Subrata, From what I have heard, it could be an issue in Riyadh.

I have applied for Israel Visa(B2 tourist visa) and tomorrow is my visa interview, should I cancel the visa application as being a solo traveler, I don’t want any trouble in Saudi?? Please suggest.

That is a decision you have to make. Do you have any other option other than transiting via Riyadh?

I have already booked the return flight which has 3hrs layover in Riyadh 🙁

I think you will face issues on either side. So make an informed decision because I really can’t comment on what you should decide.

Hi Soumya, thankyou for sharing your experience of Israel visa. I myself have been planning to visit the country, so this has been quite helpful. However, I am unable to understand the visa stamp issue. Do they print the proper visa on our passport, with validity details and all, or is it just some approval stamp, with proper details stamped at the entry Airport? Kindly revert, Thanks.

For Indians, the visa is stamped. The approval stamp is not stamped and you get a card instead of a stamp. Hope this is clear.

Hi! Thanks for your blog post. I am applying for an Israeli student visa. I do have a valid US visa in my passport. Do you think it can work as something positive? I’ve also lived in Canada, UK, France and Netherlands before as well.

I am really not sure about Student visa. But all the best with your application. Having so many visas definitely helps

Hi Soumya , thank you for sharing your experience here I hope you are clarify to my doubt. Present iam staying in Saudi next month I will coming to India. I want Israel visit visa if there is any problem to me because Saudi & Dubai visa Stamps in my passport . So my passport valid for travel to Israel are I renewed my passport . and how much cost for visa please tell me how can I get visa through the travel agent are directly. Apply in consulate . I want renewable visa to work in Israel is it possible .

I am not sure about work visa. But with a Saudi stamp, it will be difficult for you. There is no issue with UAE visa stamp. They will still ask for your previous passport when you are applying.

Hi soumya My daughter has joined in Weizmann institute for post doctoral studies in Israel &moreover she’s pregnant. Is it possible for me to get a visa as Iam her mother&would like to stay with her for about 6months. She’s taken a house there. Please give me some clarification how to apply for a visa to Israel.

Latest Information for U.S. Citizens

Information for U.S. Citizens in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza

The Department reminds U.S. citizens of the continued need for caution and increased personal security awareness as security incidents often take place without warning. The security environment remains complex and can change quickly depending on the political situation and recent events. Please see the latest Israel Security Alert .

U.S. citizens should heed the  Travel Advisory  for Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. The U.S. Embassy continues to closely monitor the dynamic security situation in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. There are active military operations and active rocket and mortar fire in Gaza and the Gaza periphery.  Terrorist groups, lone-actor terrorists and other violent extremists continue plotting possible attacks in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. Terrorists and violent extremists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, and local government facilities. Violence can occur in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza without warning. If you require emergency assistance while in Israel, the West Bank or Gaza, contact the  U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem  by email ([email protected]).

Individuals seeking to depart Gaza  through the Rafah crossing into Egypt should monitor the  Palestinian General Authority for Crossings and Borders’ Facebook Page  for a list of those approved to cross. U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, or immediate family (as listed below) who desire our assistance and have not already provided their information to the Department of State, please email U.S. Embassy Jerusalem at  [email protected]  with a copy of the individual’s travel document as well as an explanation or proof of relationship.

The U.S. government does not control the crossing lists nor determine who is permitted to depart Gaza or enter Egypt. Individuals must assess their own safety and risks in attempting to cross the border. Individuals permitted to enter Egypt will likely receive a 72-hour Egyptian visa; all those who cross should have a plan for onward travel from Egypt in this timeframe. U.S. citizens, LPRs and their immediate family members who successfully enter Egypt and require further consular assistance should contact the  U.S. Embassy in Cairo  via the  U.S. Citizens Services Navigator .  Individuals may apply for a U.S. visa at any U.S. Embassy or Consulate; U.S. immigration laws and regulations will apply.

If a name has appeared on a crossing list since November 1, we understand those individuals will be permitted to cross as long as the border remains open for foreign nationals. We urge U.S. citizens, LPRs, and their immediate family members who have appeared on one of these lists to cross as soon as possible – there is no guarantee the border will remain open. We continue to work in partnership with Egypt and Israel towards safe passage for U.S. citizens, LPRs, and their immediate family members.

Immediate family members of U.S. citizens include:

  • unmarried children under the age of 21, and
  • parents of U.S. citizens.

If the U.S. citizen is under 21, immediate family will also include any siblings who are also unmarried and under 21.

Immediate family members of LPRs include:

  • unmarried children under 21 years of age.

More information can be found at: http://www.israelvisa.in/

I am also sorry that you had this experience. But it has been pointed out on this forum numerous times that Indian passport holders need a visa in advance.

travel to israel on indian passport

<< I consulted Tripadvisor forum... >>

I join those that are sorry you did not research this issue fully in advance and as has already been noted, had you shared the fact that you are an Indian national we would have all told you tha you need a visa in advance.

Also - why would you think that you would be told one thing at one border crossing and a different thing at a number.

I understand your disappointment however if at the Allenby Bridge you were told you needed a visa in advance that should have been enough for you to stop.

travel to israel on indian passport

mbgg, thanks for finding my commented and quoting it.

metros2018, I just spent considerable time going through your questions on this forum. You never once said you were on an Indian passport and never once asked about entering the country ON an Indian passport. When we write about crossing the border we work on the assumption that you have checked and verified you ability to enter the country and obtained necessary Visas. HAD you used India as your location, one of us would have been proactive and asked. HOWEVER you did NOT use India. Why would anyone say anything to you about rules for an Indian Passport holder.

' class=

I too am sorry it went so badly, but for what it's worth, it's the bad (but not tragic) experiences that are easier to remember and give our memories some texture and more firmness. All the good, pleasant, interesting days we have eventually blur, but those bad but not tragic events remind us that we lived and lived through them And they remind us without the aggravation or physical pain we had the first time.

I too note your location listed as the UAR. If you had said you were Indian, as some other posters working in the UAR do, the people here would have told you the visa requirement, as I've seen them do many times before. I note that you did not blame anyone, and it's good of you to let people know what happens when one who needs one arrives without a visa.

Perhaps you will have another opportunity to visit Israel and will be more prepared. Always ask questions, but provide relavenr information so you can get accurate information.

Thanks to all the replies. I thought I did mention my nationality in the initial threads. I also checked myself my previous queries after seeing the first reply and I went numb. I guess, I asked every other question I probably could, but failed to add the most significant information that i'm an indian. I apologize to all the experts. Its my own fault. Sorry.

Do Indians need separate passport for Israel?

Please note that all Indian passports applied from India are stamped with an Israel visa for Indian citizens. We do not have an option to ask them for a separate slip of paper. You can additionally apply for a special passport only for Israel here. While entering Israel, your passport is not stamped.

What kind of passport do I need to go to Israel?

All visitors to Israel must hold a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date they are departing the country. People with no nationality must hold a valid laissez-passer, as well as a visa back to the country that issued it.

Is it safe for Indians to visit Israel?

Ultimately it is safe to travel in Israel. The situation in the south of the country is not affecting tourists who are traveling in the country. That being said, you should always be sure to check and adhere to your country’s travel advisories.

Which country Indian can visit without passport?

How can a Indian get Israeli citizenship?

Adults may acquire Israeli citizenship by naturalization at the discretion of the Minister of the Interior and subject to a number of requirements, such as: they must have resided in Israel for three years out of the five years preceding the day of submission of the application.

How can I go to Israel from India?

More than 130 weekly flights are available from New Delhi to Tel Aviv. Ethiopian Airlines, Aeroflot, Jet Airways, Alitalia, Lufthansa, and Air India are the top airlines flying this route. Nearly 170 flights operate between New Delhi and Eilat every week.

We cannot provide tickets to Israelis for travel to or via these countries.

Can an Indian work in Israel?

According to the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv, more than 12,000 Indian citizens live and work in Israel, the vast majority as caregivers for the elderly or people with disabilities. However, this does not help Indian travelers as we need a visa to enter the country and the Israeli Visa is printed on the passport. After passport control, we passed through Customs and through the Green channel.

How to apply for an Israel Visa?

All travelers wanting to apply for the Israel visa should download the application form from their official site, fill it up and submit at the Visa Application Centers. Once you get the information about the approval of the visa, visit the embassy and collect your passport with the visa.

A valid visit visa along with the passport valid for at least 6 months is required to enter the State of Israel. For Indians Tourists, it is also a must to provide evidence of return travel. Is there any medical insurance mandatory for the Israel visa?

Which countries do not allow entry to Israel with a passport?

Israel does not stamp the entry on the passport but instead gives a small printed blue slip of paper called the ‘Electronic Gate Pass’. A few countries like Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Sudan (and perhaps Pakistan, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia) do not allow entry for travelers with Israeli stamps on their passports.

EU eases travel for Indian passport holders with long-term Schengen visas under 'cascade' regime

The european commission had adopted specific rules on the issuing of multiple entry visas to indian nationals amid strengthened relations between india and the eu. indian nationals can avail long-term, multi-entry visas for two years to countries under schengen area..

Aveek Banerjee

The European Commission had adopted specific rules on the issuing of multiple entry visas to Indian nationals on April 18, according to an official statement. Under the newly adopted 'cascade' regime, Indian nationals can now be issued long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas valid for two years after having obtained and lawfully used two visas within the previous three years.

The two-year visa will normally be followed by a five-year visa if the passport has sufficient validity remaining, as per the laws. During the validity period of these visas, holders enjoy travel rights equivalent to visa-free nationals. The decision comes amid strengthened relations under the India-EU Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility, which seeks comprehensive cooperation on migration policy between the EU and India.

India has emerged as a key partner of the European bloc and both sides are looking to strengthen people-to-people contacts, which explains the changes in the visa regime. Schengen visas allow the holder to travel freely in the Schengen area for short stays of a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period. The visas are not purpose-bound, but they do not grant the right to work.

The Schengen area consists of 29 European countries (of which 25 are EU states): Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden, along with Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

This comes after the UK announced a 55 per cent hike in the salary requirements of British citizens and residents, including those of Indian heritage, who wish to sponsor their relatives on a family visa. The increase in salary thresholds announced by the government will come into effect from Thursday as part of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's plan to cut down on immigration levels.

Individuals are now required to have a minimum annual salary of GBP 29,000, up from GBP 18,600 for someone to be sponsored to come to the UK on a family visa. By early next year, this will have increased two more times to match the Skilled Worker visa salary threshold of GBP 38,700. The UK Home Office said it marks the final measure in Sunak and Home Secretary James Cleverly's package to reduce legal migration so they don't "burden the taxpayer".

House Responds to Israeli-Iranian Missile Exchange by Taking Rights Away from Americans

A measure passed by the House seeks to block Americans from traveling to Iran on U.S. passports.

Civil liberties groups are raising alarms about a bill making its way through Congress that applies pressure for a ban on travel to Iran for Americans using U.S. passports. The rights groups see the bill as part of a growing attempt to control the travel of American citizens and bar Iranian Americans in particular from maintaining connections with friends and loved ones inside Iran.

“If you’re an American citizen, the government should not be controlling where you can travel.”

“This bill is very concerning because it’s the beginning of a process of criminalizing something that is very normal for many people, which is traveling to Iran,” said Ryan Costello, policy director at the National Iranian American Council. “If you’re an American citizen, the government should not be controlling where you can travel.”

Along with a flurry of other sanctions bills targeting Iran, the bill calling for the travel restrictions passed the U.S. House last week. The bill is now slated to come before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

travel to israel on indian passport

Introduced last fall, the No Paydays for Hostage-Takers Act languished until tensions between Iran and Israel escalated into a series of reciprocal attacks earlier this month.

Among other provisions, the bill seeks to bar U.S. passport holders from traveling to Iran by rendering their passports invalid for such travel. Though the prohibition would need to be enacted by the State Department, the legislative proposal effectively encourages the move and, as with other sanctions against Iran, waiving the authority to enact the ban could incur political costs.

If Donald Trump wins a second White House term, a distinct possibility according to polls, the invocation of the travel ban would be likely. In his first term, Trump imposed the so-called Muslim ban on travel to the U.S. for Iranians, among other nationalities, and has promised to reimpose it if elected again .

The idea of banning travel to Iran on American passports was raised last September by former Trump State Department official Elliott Abrams, a right-wing hawk with a controversial history that includes covering up a Central American massacre and involvement in the Iran–Contra scandal.

Trump Revives “Muslim Ban” While GOP Courts Muslim Voters for 2024

In practice, many Iranian Americans tend to travel to Iran on Iranian passports, but Americans of Iranian extraction who do not hold Islamic Republic travel documents would be unable to travel there under the ban. The measure is viewed as a potential signal of deeper isolation for the Iranian people and severing of people-to-people ties between Iran and the U.S.

Iran and North Korea?

The bill, originally proposed last October by Reps. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., and Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., was promoted as a measure to restrict the Iranian government’s ability to take U.S. citizens hostage as bargaining chips for bilateral negotiations. Some dual-nationals have been arrested in Iran in the past amid tensions between the two countries.

Yet hundreds of thousands of dual-nationals are believed to travel regularly to Iran from across the West. Measures barring their ability to do so would represent an unprecedented step, making it difficult or impossible for people with ties in both countries to visit family or maintain personal and professional connections.

Invalidating U.S. passports for travel to Iran would put it on par with North Korea, which had a similar ban put in place in 2017 — during Trump’s first term — when an American citizen died after 17 months of detention there.

Despite being heavily sanctioned over foreign policy and human rights issues, Iran still has relations with much of the international community and large number of Iranians live throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East.

“North Korea and Iran are very different countries.”

“North Korea is really the model for this policy, as it is the only country where there is such a strict prohibition for travel on the books,” said Costello. “But North Korea and Iran are very different countries. The level of isolation of North Korea is far greater, and it doesn’t have the same diaspora that Iran does.”

This week, a delegation from North Korea traveled to Iran, with reported hopes of breaking North Korea’s total diplomatic isolation as conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine forge new geopolitics.

Costello said that NIAC is still hoping that the Senate will not approve the bill when it comes to its consideration. Still, the implications of it coming under consideration, alongside Trump’s promises to revive his “Muslim ban” policy, bode poorly for the future of U.S.–Iran relations.

“You are talking,” he said, “about a policy that could affect hundreds of thousands of people.”

Israel Faced a Sophisticated Attack From Iran

The weapons Iran employed this weekend travel farther and are more precise than those Hamas and other allies have used against Israel in the past six months.

A bright line of light arcs across a dark nighttime sky.

Late Saturday, Iran began firing hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel, including weapons that experts say are more sophisticated than anything Israel had encountered until now in six months of fighting with Hamas and its allies in the region.

Previously, Israel had faced aerial attacks from Hamas and Islamic Jihad, whose rocket arsenal includes short-range (12 to 25 miles) and somewhat inaccurate 122-milimeter rockets of the Grad family, as well as Syrian-made M-302 rockets with a range of about 100 miles. Hamas also has Fajr-5 rockets from Iran and a similar, locally made version of the Fajr-5, both with a range of about 50 miles.

The weapons Iran used on Saturday can travel much farther, and some of them can travel much faster. Still, Israel said that nearly all of the missiles and drones that Iran fired were intercepted, many with help from U.S. forces.

In the attack, 185 drones, 36 cruise missiles and 110 surface-to-surface missiles were fired toward Israel, according to Israeli military officials. Most of the launches were from Iran, though a small portion came from Iraq and Yemen, the officials said.

Fabian Hinz, an expert on Iran’s military at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in Berlin, said in a post on X that Iran was probably using a cruise missile developed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, the Paveh 351. It has a range of more than 1,200 miles — plenty to reach Israel from Iran.

According to his post, different versions of that missile have also been provided to the Houthis in Yemen and to the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces.

And Jeffrey Lewis, a member of the International Security Advisory Board at the U.S. State Department, said in a post on X that Iran was using land-attack cruise missiles that could carry around a ton of explosives.

He also noted that much of Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal has a long enough range to reach Israel. And though Iran’s drones carry much smaller explosive payloads than missiles, they have the advantage of being able to hover and shift targets.

In recent decades, Iran has largely been focused on deterrence, long-range missiles, drones and air defenses. It has one of the largest ballistic missile and drone arsenals across the Middle East, according to weapons experts, and is also becoming a major arms exporter globally.

Last year, after the attack by Hamas in October, Israel asked the United States for more precision-guided munitions for its combat aircraft and more interceptors for its Iron Dome missile defense system. Israel’s weapons arsenal includes Vietnam-era missiles, some of which have a failure rate as high as 15 percent.
