America’s Test Kitchen’s Most Popular *New* Recipes of 2023

In our test kitchen, it takes a lot for a recipe to go from a brainstorm session to being published. Our recipe development process involves multiple steps, including a comprehensive five-recipe test and a pool of 50,000 at-home recipe testers who ultimately determine if a recipe sees the light of day.

We already have almost 14,000 recipes on our site and app that have made it through our rigorous process. This year we added 150 more, which originated in our magazines, TV shows, and cookbooks and are now accessible to our digital members.

We wanted to shine a light on this class of 2023. Here are the 10 that got the most eyes this year.

Our favorite tips and recipes, enjoyed by 2 million+ subscribers!

1. Triple Mushroom Pasta

Cook’s Illustrated ’s Erica Turner developed this powerhouse mushroom pasta recipe that uses an impressive 2½ pounds of mushrooms. It was also one of our digital members’ most-saved recipes in back-to-back months this year.

2. chili-spiced chicken thighs and potatoes.

Andrea Geary , of Cook’s Illustrated , brings our second-most popular recipe of the year in the form of succulent, ultra-flavorful chicken thighs. This weeknight meal was touted as “impressive” throughout the comment section, and you can achieve these results with less effort than you think.

3. stuffed spatchcock turkey.

For our third-most popular recipe, Erica Turner proves that the process of spatchcocking a turkey is well worth the effort. By taking the backbone out, the bird rests beautifully over the stuffing, adding savory juices while developing a super-crackly skin.

5. mushroom-beef blended burgers.

Looking to cut the cost without skimping on flavor? Cook’s Illustrated ’s Lan Lam masterfully blends nearly equal amounts of mushrooms and beef for burgers that drip with savory juices. Whether you’re trying to eat less meat or simply want to try something new, this recipe is both “forgiving and a keeper.”

6. fresh corn arepas.

In this recipe from our book Cooking with My Dad, the Chef , young cook Verveine Oringer and her father, renowned chef Ken Oringer, streamline a family-friendly version of corn arepas. These small cakes are naturally gluten-free, fluffy, and full of flavor. Serve them alongside a tasty meal or enjoy alone with a bit of butter as a crispy snack.

7. banoffee pie.

Our digital members have spoken: You need to add this pie to your arsenal. Cook’s Illustrated ’s Annie Petito traded in the traditional (yet long) process for this British favorite for a faster version still fit for entertaining. It’s sweet, it’s a textural masterpiece, and one recipe commenter called it “the perfect dessert.”

8. bangers with onion gravy.

Steve Dunn , of Cook’s Illustrated , showcases a meat-and-potatoes dish that’s anything but ordinary. This British pub staple stands out for the rich onion gravy that cannot be skipped. We recommend sourcing authentic UK ingredients to truly transport yourself across the pond via this comforting dish.

9. la viña–style cheesecake.

Cook’s Country ’s Nicole Konstantinakos used her years of experience living in Basque country to develop a recipe so good, you’ll think you were in Spain. With just five ingredients, this crustless cheesecake takes advantage of deep browning to provide flavor and texture.

10. pappa al pomodoro.

Rounding out our top 10 list is another warming comfort dish. Annie Petito takes this bread-and-tomato Tuscan porridge to a new level. This relatively simple recipe comes together in under an hour and uses a box grater to break down in-season tomatoes with ease.

Your first night in Madrid provides ample opportunity to delve deeper into the city at your pace, a perfect wrap-up to the day of your Madrid and Barcelona 6-days 5-nights journey.

Today you will explore another city in the surroundings of Madrid in an 8-hour full-day tour. Just 50 minutes outside Madrid there is the medieval capital of Spain: Toledo, which should not be missed. Although it is now a place for tourists to come and see, five hundred years ago it was the bustling city center of Spain for centuries.

Toledo1

Given the honor of a World Heritage city, Toledo is as important as any other place in Spain and equally beautiful. The old city walls border Toledo and its winding, stone roads and picturesque buildings.

Toledo has been populated for thousands of years by almost every major empire to conquer what is now central Europe. Because of this, there are remains of each dynasty sprinkled throughout the city. When you are in this city you are truly in the middle of history.

The city is famous for being the main place of co-existence for Jews, Christians, and Muslims from seven hundred A.D. until fourteen hundred A.D. Many different religious monuments and buildings stood next to one another and people were free to practice whatever religion they wanted to. During the 16th Century, it was home to the Spanish monarchy and was the capital city.

The first thing you see when entering Toledo is the Puerta Bisagra, the main entrance to the fortified city. When you pass through this gate you are passing through fifteen hundred years of history!

Alcazar

Alcazar is a spectacular castle, but was once a fortress and because of that has been rebuilt numerous times due to conflict and fires. There are many old cathedrals, mosques, synagogues, and monasteries all over the city. Other highlights include an assortment of interesting museums, a walk along the river Tajo, and if you are lucky some amazing Fiestas.

After this excursion, the bus will drive you back to the hotel and you can enjoy your free time during the rest of the day. Of course, there are also some options, which can be added if you wish:

1. Visit to Santiago Bernabeu Stadium

Santiago Bernabeu Stadium

Real Madrid is famous for being the richest football club in Spain. Estadio Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is the home to Real Madrid and has been since 1947. It is one of the largest football stadiums in the world holding over eighty-five thousand people at one time.

2. Visit to the Prado Museum

There is no better place in the world to see Spanish art than the Museo del Prado. It is the largest and most well-known art museum in Spain, which was originally built in the 1700s in the Neo-Classical style. Some of the paintings found here date back over nine hundred years ago and are still on display today.

Prado Museum 2

The Prado is considered one of the most impressive art galleries and museums in the world, ranked seventh in Europe, and is the most visited gallery in Europe besides those in London and Paris.

In the evening you can enjoy your free time and explore Madrid on your own. You can use it to do some shopping in the famous street Gran Via, take a delicious cocktail in an insider bar, or walk along the streets – just enjoy the charm of this city.

After the refreshment at the buffet breakfast on your Madrid and Barcelona 6 days and 5 nights journey, the day unfolds with a half-day trip (5 hours) to the incredible city surrounding Madrid: Segovia, renowned for its Alcazar and captivating medieval charm.

The excursion, a significant part of your Madrid and Barcelona 6 days and 5 nights experience, kickstarts with a tour to Segovia, one of the nine prominent towns constituting the state of Castile and Leon. Earning the honor of being named a UNESCO World Heritage City in 1985, Segovia boasts two particularly breathtaking landmarks.

Segovia

Firstly, there’s the Aqueduct. Dating back to approximately 100 A.D., this masterpiece of Roman engineering stands as a testament to ancient architectural prowess. As an integral part of the Madrid and Barcelona 6-days 5-nights itinerary, the Aqueduct, with its 818-meter span and over twenty-five thousand granite blocks, offers a picturesque view from various city corners, though it predominantly graces the Plaza del Azoguejo.

Secondly, the Madrid and Barcelona 6-days 5-nights adventure introduces travelers to the Segovia Cathedral, Spain’s last gothic masterpiece. Towering over the city with its 90-meter high bell tower, this over four-century-old marvel was once Spain’s tallest structure, further amplifying the charm of Segovia.

While these architectural wonders are the highlights of the Madrid and Barcelona Barcelona 6-days 5-nights tour, Segovia’s offerings don’t end there. The Alcazar, a millennia-old royal palace, accompanied by its stunning gardens, adds to the city’s allure. Museums, arches, churches, and numerous other attractions ensure that this part of the Madrid and Barcelona Barcelona 6-days 5-nights journey remains etched in memory.

After soaking in Segovia’s magnificence, the bus escorts you back to your hotel, allowing for some relaxation before your onward journey. As a continuation of your Madrid and Barcelona 6 days and 5 nights experience, the afternoon sees you boarding a flight or high-speed train bound for Barcelona. Upon reaching this coastal gem, a private shuttle transfers you to your 3* Hotel.

The concluding part of this segment of your Madrid and Barcelona 6-days 5-nights adventure invites you to explore Barcelona at your own pace. Savor tapas, stroll through the historic old town, or simply unwind, gearing up for the adventures of the coming days.

The day begins with a buffet breakfast in your hotel. Afterward, our guide and bus will pick you up for a full-day excursion to the highlights of Barcelona.

Barcelona 6-days 5-nights

The awe-inspiring architecture of Antoni Gaudi will be our starting point. Admire the UNESCO heritage buildings of Casa Mila and Casa Batllo in the picturesque Eixample quarter before we approach Barcelona’s most famous landmark, the cathedral of Sagrada Familia: this still unfinished gem of modernism architecture was begun in 1882 and the completion is planned for 2026, the 100th anniversary of the death of Antoní Gaudí.

We will continue to the upper city and the slopes of the Sierra de Collserola mountain range to reach Parc Güell. Your guide will take you for a short walk through this fairy-tale garden with its beautiful mosaics and amazing views up to the Mediterranean Sea.

Sierra De Collserola Mountain

Take a short break on its terrace for a picture of the famous curved benches.

After this refreshing break, we will continue with the bus to the Olympic facilities on Montjuic. This mountain between the historic center and the port has already been part of sports history for decades as Barcelona’s old Formula 1 track. For the 1992 Olympic Games, it was reformed as the central venue and 80% of the competitions took place over there. We will visit the beautiful plaza and the Olympic stadium before reaching the castle on the top of the mountain with its 360-degree views of Barcelona and its shoreline.

Making our way down from Montjuic our next stop will be the ancient heart of Barcelona. Step deep into history and explore the foundations of Barcelona as a Roman colony 2000 years ago. Our guide will tell you the rise and fall of the ruling empires over the centuries on a walking tour from the world-famous Las Ramblas through the narrow lanes of the Gothic quarter. On the way to Barcelona’s greatest medieval icon, the cathedral of La Seu you will also explore the indoors of the Roman Augustus’ Temple, the palatine chapel of Santa Àgata, and the cloister of the cathedral.

Cathedral Of La Seu Spain

Now you will hop on your bus again to pass the old port and the former fishermen’s district of Barceloneta to reach the lively beach promenade. We will then enter modern Barcelona with the Olympic Port and the futuristic Forum area. On our way back to the hotel the tour will finish with the oddly shaped Torre Agbar, the icon of modern Barcelona in the new business district.

Side Of Torre Glories Agbar Tower 1

After this extensive tour get some rest in the hotel or take a look at Barcelona’s extensive shopping opportunities along fashionable Passeig de Gracia or discover hidden boutiques in the Born district.

Start into the day with another great breakfast. Today you will go on a trip to Girona and Figueres in northern Catalonia.

It will be a one-hour drive from Barcelona to the historic city of Girona. Founded by the Romans, it was a melting pot of cultures for centuries. Along winding medieval streets our guide will take you up the hill from the riverbank to the cathedral. On the way down we will pass through the narrow lanes of the Jewish quarter, walk along the Roman wall that surrounds the old town, and discover the Arab baths.

Afterward, you will have some spare time for shopping, a coffee break or just wandering around the picturesque old town on your own.

Another half an hour on the bus and we will reach Figueres, the home and workplace of world-famous surrealist, painter, and sculptor Salvador Dali.

Theatre Museum Of Dali 1

We will get in touch with his fascinating world and visit the Theatre Museum of Dali. Almost completely created by Dalí himself, it is undoubtedly the best and largest collection of surrealism in the world. He wanted visitors to see his massive collection as a whole work, and for this reason, he refused to have his works placed in any order. Step in and get lost in this surrealistic world of fantasy mixed with architecture, paintings, and sculptures.

After this exciting day, the bus will bring you back to the hotel around 18.00 hrs.

In the evening you will enjoy a delicious farewell dinner in a Spanish restaurant. The dinner will include a three-course meal, wine water, and coffee.

According to the departure of your cruise ship, we will pick you up from the hotel and bring you to your cruise terminal. With a lot of impressions, you will be hopefully already thinking about when you will return to our beautiful city. Optional: If your cruise check-in will only open late in the afternoon, we can add another half-day tour in Barcelona.

Optionally, we are happy to include the following activities in your program:

  • The inside of Sagrada Familia with VIP-Entrance : Explore Gaudi’s masterpiece with your guide and no queuing – 19€ per person
  • FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou Stadium & Museum : Europe’s largest stadium will be yours from the player’s changing rooms to the pitch. Feel like Lionel Messi when you hold the Champions League trophy in the Barca Museum – 25€ per person

  • In order to enter Spain, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport with an expiration date extending at least six months beyond the date of reentry.
  • We recommend having at least one blank passport page for entry stamps.
  • Beginning in 2025, U.S. and Canadian passport holders must register for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to enter many European countries.
  • Passport holders from over 60 visa-exempt countries (including the U.S. and Canada) will need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to visit 30 European countries. That means that even if you’ve previously traveled to any of these European countries without a visa, starting in 2025, you’ll need to get ETIAS authorization to visit them again. If you’re traveling to multiple countries with this requirement, you only need to complete the form once. All Go Ahead travelers are responsible for obtaining their own ETIAS travel authorization before departure. For more details, please visit our Help Center .
  • If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact your destination country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
  • You can see the most up-to-date entry requirements for the destination(s) you’ll visit on tour by going to goaheadtours.com/entry-requirements and searching the code SMB.
  • You will walk for at least 1 hour daily across moderately uneven terrain, including paved roads and dirt paths, with some hills.
  • Travelers should be healthy enough to participate in all included walks without assistance. Adding optional excursions may increase the total amount of walking on your tour.
  • You should feel comfortable managing your own baggage at times, as well as getting in and out of trains.
  • Go Ahead Tours and the Tour Director who accompanies your group are unable to provide special, individual mobility assistance to travelers on tour. • In Spain, breakfast like a local with just a pastry and coffee. Then, tuck into a three-course lunch featuring a Spanish staple like savory seafood paella or grilled meat and fried potatoes. Dinner is less hearty than lunch and is served late, between 9pm and midnight. Snack on small plates called tapas any time of day.
  • Catalan cuisine, which can be found in Barcelona, is markedly different from food in other parts of Spain. Nearly every restaurant will offer pa amb tomàquet —toasted bread with tomato and olive oil. Fresh seafood, hearty meat dishes, cheeses, and locally grown vegetables, such as wild mushrooms, are culinary mainstays.
  • Cuisine in Spain's southern Andalusia region is heavily influenced by surrounding countries, and has many Arabic elements. Kebabs are popular, and desserts are often prepared with almonds, honey and cinnamon. Be sure to try Serrano ham, which is considered a regional delicacy, as well as the famous chilled soup known as gazpacho .
  • Spain operates on the European standard 220-240 volts and uses Types C, E, or F plugs with two small, round pins.
  • We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other device without a built-in converter.
  • The strength of the air conditioning in European hotels is often not as strong or as cool as what you might be used to in the U.S. or Canada. When air conditioning is available, it is usually regulated seasonally and controlled centrally by the hotel.
  • Your hotels may provide hairdryers, irons, and other small appliances. However, these amenities cannot be guaranteed.
  • Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, though some charges may apply.
  • There is no Wi-Fi on any of the motor coaches.
  • Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.
  • Spain is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and six hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).
  • When it’s noon in New York, it’s 6pm on tour.
  • You will use the euro on this tour.
  • Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
  • We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.
  • You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
  • Inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
  • International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
  • At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity in local currency. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.
  • We recommend tipping the equivalent of $10USD to $12USD per person per day for your Tour Director and the equivalent of $3USD per person per day for your driver.
  • If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD per local guide.
  • Tips can only be paid in cash.
  • Most optional excursions will be available for purchase while you are on tour.
  • Your Tour Director will only accept cash (in USD only), Visa, or MasterCard as payment for excursions.

Trip Summary

madrid barcelona tour

In the last few years, Madrid has gained the reputation of being one of Europe's most active and attractive cities for its nightlife and cultural activities. Capital of Spain since 1562, Madrid's museums host, among others, Dalis, Miros and Picasso's Guernica. Madrid is a city of great contrasts: the Old City, the Madrid of the Hapsburgs, the Royal Palace, the Puerta de Alcala, the Retiro Park. At night, the city changes gears with its famous Madrid nightlife. The city's endless energy is hard to resist, and its sociable style invites you to jump right in. Visit Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor, Prado Museum, Puerta del Sol, Puerta de Alcala, Plaza de Cibeles, Gran Via, Madrid Cathedral, Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofia Museums and so much more!

madrid barcelona tour

Barcelona , the old Roman Barcino, is Spain's second city, always on the biting edge of fashion, architecture, food, style, music and good times. Walk its narrow streets and wonderful plazas, or along the Ramblas, stretching from Plaza de Cataluna to the Harbor, encompassing the magic of the city: stalls full of books, birds and flowers. The city's most powerful monuments open a window onto its history: the intricately carved edifices that comprise the medieval Gothic Quarter; the curvilinear modernism (Catalan Art Nouveau) that inspired Gaudi's Sagrada Familia; and the seminal surrealist works of Picasso and Miró, found in museums that peg Barcelona as a crucial incubator for 20th-century art. The recent restoration of the port area began with the development of a harbor for the Olympic Games of 1992. New modern squares, designed by leading artists such as Miro and Barcelo have created a new style alongside Gaudi's modernist buildings. Now the city is ready to show every visitor how it has been transformed into one of the most moderns and active cities in Europe. Explore The Sagrada Familia, Picasso Museum, La Rambla, Barri Gotic, Park Guell, modernist buildings, Montjuic Hill, Barceloneta and so much more!

Paul will bring his acclaimed Got Back tour to Europe this December!

Fulfilling his promise to 'get back', Paul will return to France, Spain and the UK with his Got Back  tour. Earlier this month, Paul announced his first live shows of 2024 with the next leg of the tour launching in South America this October.

With songs like ‘Hey Jude’, ‘Live and Let Die’, ‘Band on the Run’,  ‘Let It Be’ and so many more, the Paul McCartney live experience is everything any music lover could ever want from a rock show: hours of the greatest moments from the last 60 years of music – dozens of songs from Paul’s solo, Wings and of course Beatles catalogues that have formed the soundtracks of our lives.

This will mark Paul’s first European show since his iconic Glastonbury headlining performance in 2022. Hailed as “one of the greatest gigs of all time” by The Times and “a masterclass from the greatest living cultural figure in this country’s history” by The i, it was also Paul and his band’s 500th show together! These dates will see McCartney return for his first live performance in Paris in six years - in 2018 he played at La Defense Arena, where he is making his return. The wait has been longer for Spaniards, where he last played eight years ago, in 2016 at Estadio Vincente Calderon.

Paul launched his Got Back tour in 2022, completing 16 huge shows across the US before performing his history-making set at Glastonbury in June 2022. In 2023 Paul performed 18 incredible shows as the Got Back tour rocked through Australia, Mexico and Brazil.

Barcelona confirmed as host of 2026 Tour de France Grand Départ

Opening three days of race to be centred on Catalan capital

Tour de France 2009: Thor Hushovd was the last winner in Barcelona

The Tour de France organisers have confirmed the longstanding rumours that the 2026 Grand Départ will be in Barcelona, with the race to be present in the city for a period of three days.

The Catalan capital will host the race from July 4-6, 2026. It’s been reported that stage 1 will be run off completely within the bounds of the city, and that stage 2 will also start and finish in Barcelona. After another start in the city on stage 3, the Tour then heads towards more familiar terrain in France.

Negotiations for what will be the fourth foreign Tour de France start in five years have not been fast-moving, although as early as May, it was already being reported as all but a done deal by local media.

The definitive confirmation from ASO came on Tuesday, followed by a ceremony in Barcelona’s town hall. The city will follow Copenhagen in 2022, Bilbao in 2023, Firenze in 2024 and Lille in 2025 as the Grand Départ for men's cycling’s biggest bike race.

Barcelona has already hosted the opening stage of the Vuelta a España in 1962 and 2023.  Last year, the opening stage of the Vuelta was an early evening team time trial that was partly overshadowed by controversy concerning insufficient illumination when the race route was unexpectedly affected by heavy rainshowers and cloud cover, while the automatic street lighting, not timed to be activated before full darkness, failed to switch itself on.

That was followed up by a stage 2 finish in Barcelona’s Montjuic Park, widely seen as the epicentre of the city’s well-established relationship with road racing, and which Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme hinted strongly on Tuesday would likely feature in the  2026 Tour’s visit as well.

Long the host to one of the final one-day races of the season, the now defunct Subida a Montjuic - won six times by Eddy Merckx - the entire finishing circuit of the last stage of the Volta a Catalunya has always been held in Montjuic and it often features on stages held by the Vuelta as well. Montjuic was also where the 1973  World Championships and cycling events in the 1992 Olympic Games - both road and track - took place.

Barcelona itself has been visited by the Tour de France three times in the past, most recently 2009, with an uphill bunch sprint stage win for Thor Hushovd. The next day’s stage, finishing in Andorra at Ordino-Arcalis, also began in Barcelona.

The first time the Tour reached Barcelona was in 1957,  with three stages either starting and finishing there, including an individual time trial won by French legend Jacques Anquetil, who went on to claim the first of five overall victories. In 1963, the city witnessed an epic solo victory for local star José Pérez Francés.

The Tour’s start in 2026 will coincide - barring last-minute delays -  with the long-awaited completion of one of Barcelona’s best-known religious monuments, the Sagrada Familia cathedral, on which work began back in 1882.

“We love the big cities, be they French or foreign,” race director Christian Prudhomme told L’Équipe . “But on condition that we also continue to visit the smallest places, the villages in France, too. That’s non-negotiable. Barcelona had the political will to do it, but also a sporting interest because of Montjuic.”

Tour de France to start in Barcelona in 2026

Paris (AFP) – The Tour de France will start in Barcelona in 2026, the third time the 21-day event has started in Spain in over a century of racing, organisers ASO announced on Tuesday.

Issued on: 18/06/2024 - 14:07 Modified: 18/06/2024 - 14:05

It will be the fourth Grand Depart to be held abroad in five editions with 2022 in Copenhagen, 2023 in Bilbao and the up-coming 2024 edition due to embark July 21 from Florence.

Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni was present at the announcement and his city hopes to unveil the refurbished cathedral Sagrada Familia in 2026 too.

ASO director Christian Prudhomme insisted the Tour would always respect its roots and visit the smaller towns and villages, but said he was delighted with the 2026 venue.

"Barcelona is a prestigious city and it is a city of sport," Prudhomme told AFP of what will be the 113th edition of the Tour.

He said two complete stages would take place in Catalonia and the third stage would also begin there before crossing into France.

He was excited about the platform a city such as Barcelona would provide for the build up to the so called Grand Depart in terms of global television audiences.

"These types of Grand Depart make the Tour de France glisten even brighter," said the man who has grown the Tour's brand over recent years.

Cycling's most famous race started in San Sebastian in 1992 and in Bilbao last year.

Next year the Tour starts in northern French city Lille.

The 2024 Tour de France will end in Nice on July 21 in a change from its normal route because of the preparations for the Olympics in Paris.

The 2026 Tour de France will roll out of Barcelona, Spain, officials confirmed.

ASO chief Christian Prudhomme and Barcelona’s mayor Jaume Collboni sealed the deal Tuesday on the historic Catalan city hosting the opening three stages of the 2026 Tour, from July 4 through 6.

Stages 1 and 2 will play out entirely inside Catalunya before stage 3 starts in Spain and heads northward for a finish in France.

Details of race-courses are to be confirmed, but the third stage won’t be able to avoid a passage of the Pyrénées.

“We like big, prestigious cities, whether French or foreign. But only on condition that we continue to visit the smaller location, the villages in France,” Prudhomme told L’Équipe. “This is essential.”

The Barcelona 2026 grand départ  will be the Tour’s first start over the Pyréneées since last year’s big Basque start.

Florence, Italy, hosts the Tour de France’s opening phase later this month. Le Tour will return to a French entrée in 2025 with three stages centered around Lille .

Barcelona is becoming a favorite for race organizers.

The Tour de France already visited there on three occasions, most recently in 2009, and the city took center stage when it hosted the wet and wild opening of the Vuelta a España last year.

The city staged the 1973 and 1984 road world championships and the 1992 Olympic Games, and its iconic Montjuïc climb has been the centerpiece of the final stage of the Volta a Catalunya for several years.

“For Barcelona, there was political will but also sporting interest with the Montjuïc climb,” Prudhomme said Tuesday, referring to the site where Felice Gimondi won rainbows in 1973.

Stay tuned for further details of the stage routes and profiles.
