Do I need to complete VeriFLY before my cruise?

We no longer require guests to use VeriFLY. If you are travelling on a cruise to or from Australia, or on a cruise that visits an Australian port (including Norfolk Island), you will instead need to bring a copy of your COVID-19 vaccination certificate with you to the cruise terminal and show it to our check-in staff. At check-in, you will also be asked some health questions, including to confirm if you have completed your pre-cruise COVID-19 test and received a negative result.

Ch7 news was just broadcasting from Pacific Explorer, Geoff.  The P&O guru was on, said they are all ready, medical teams, iso cabins, etc, etc, going to be a big day on Tuesday, it is Brisvegas and back is it not?   I shall be in Leeton next week, R&R, I will watch the big sail out etc on the motel tv, or perhaps on the big screen at the Leeton Rissole, lol.

Bon Voyage Geoff and everybody else on board.

From there you download the certificate to your phone, where it is usually found under "my files" within my documents or my downloads. You can also have a link show on your home screen. If you can locate that downloaded file on your phone, you can then upload it to VeriFLY. Also with your partners, they can display the QR code on their phone, which you can scan to the VeriFLY app to upload both on the same phone.   I am not sure if that helps, but we can chat through it on messenger if you need.

Thanks , yes we did it. I was trying to go through nsw covid site, should have read more carefully.

we did the international one as we are going to Fiji end of June, not a cruise.

Not sure it fits anymore.

It will be cold weather, and it is P&O. I was thinking this would be acceptable in the MDR.

I am not game to look ATM, but it appears that VeriFLY has crashed today, and lots of people have had to restart the process from scratch.

Mine is fine.

Yesterday arvo/evening, they had an issue with it. So someone gets on P&Os FB page - my details are missing on the app, had to do it all over again, the world is about to end. So, many that read it checked theirs, found it empty and redid it again from scratch - including following dud advice to delete the app and reinstall it.

I waited and messaged a few others on the cruise who had no issues, as it had already been resolved. As long as we can get our survey and RAT loaded, the app doesn't even need to work in the terminal, as it all links back to the booking.

At the terminal they scan the barcode from your boarding pass (printed or app) and if all is complete, they just confirm details and you are ready to board when it is called.

I saw the same post, checked my details and they were still there. We don't cruise for another month so we're not as worried but hope P&O resolves any technical glitches before the first cruise on Tue.

The P&O app has been really reliable, and looking better each day now that restaurant and bar menus are loaded. VeriFLY is separate, and nothing P&O can control, but once the health info is uploaded, it should no longer be required.

Inside 3 days now, I have also noticed the same health survey is available on Cruise Control, so I am not sure why VeriFLY was needed at all.

Were you able to load your boarding pass onto your P&O wallet? That's the part I'm struggling with.

Not sure how, but it is there. If you open the app and tap the wallet tab, that is where I found the boarding pass, but I didn't have to load it there as you would with Samsung/Apple wallets.

Fixed the problem by logging out of app, clearing cache and logging back in.

The Wanderer

An honest review of my P&O Cruise (Part 1)

It’s taken me a while to upload a review of the 5-day cruise my boyfriend and I embarked on in late February this year, but here it is!

Our P&O Cruise was a short break around South Australia called the ‘Southern Getaway’. South Australia is such a large state, and this cruise takes you to areas that perhaps you’ve never seen before due to distance or the accessibility of the area. This trip was my first major holiday since the Covid-19 pandemic and the first cruise I’ve taken since the outbreak.

In my opinion, cruising has definitely changed since the pandemic. With all the RAT testing and immunisation certificates you need to present, I did feel it added another layer of complication to the trip. However, I can appreciate that it is to keep the ship as healthy and safe as possible, particularly for immuno-compromised cruisers on board.

In this series of posts, I am going to review six major elements of our cruise and give you my honest opinion, as there were highs and lows throughout the trip. I am going to review the onboarding process, crew/customer service, ship itself, entertainment, food and shore excursions.

In this post, it’s all about the ship, crew and onboarding process.

The onboarding process

The onboarding process for boarding the ship I found incredibly difficult, particularly as someone who has not cruised with covid requirements before. The P&O Cruises website was incredibly unhelpful regarding how to board, when to RAT test and how to use the Verifly app that they require you to put your details on.

As an example, the website actually contradicts itself – I found two webpages, one that states a RAT must be done 24 hours before boarding, and another that says it must be done 24 hours before the ship leaves port. For us, that was either testing at 12 or 4pm the day before. I am sure it wouldn’t have made too much of a difference, but I’m an overthinker and having the time in the negative RAT test photo was freaking me out because I didn’t want to be four hours out and not allowed to board. So that was unclear.

p&o cruise verifly

The Verifly app was also very confusing. My boyfriend and I went through the whole process and couldn’t get the pre-cruise health declaration to upload. It kept telling us there was an error and it was a stressful situation because we thought we wouldn’t be accepted onboard if we couldn’t get it sorted. How we fixed it actually was going online and completing it in P & O’s cruise control, which was really confusing. What was the point of the Verifly app if we had to use the cruise control website to get accepted? I also couldn’t find any information about my issue either, so I just troubleshooted the problem myself. As it turns out, we didn’t even need to fill out our details on the Verifly app, because when we turned up to the terminal, there was a line for non-Verifly app users. However, having Verifly did make the boarding process much quicker, so for that reason, it was a good idea to download it and complete the declarations.

Actually boarding the ship was quite easy – the lady who helped us in the cruise passenger terminal was very friendly and made the process much easier. I have never boarded a cruise by myself – last time I went cruising, it was a family trip so my parents handled everything. My boyfriend has never cruised before, so it was a new experience for him.

The crew/customer service

Generally, the customer service onboard was fantastic. Most of our dealings with the crew had been pleasant, although we did see the ramifications of the staff shortages in real time.

The crew is working really hard because there were staff shortages that actually closed 400 Gradi (one of the restaurants on board) altogether, as well as several other eateries. We felt this onboard a few times, particularly out on the pool deck or when dining. Out on the pool deck, there is staff that just float around taking drink orders. We found that when we wanted a non-alcoholic drink, they wouldn’t help us at all or would tell us they would go and get it but never returned. I suspect it is because, particularly with the water we requested, they wouldn’t get tipped for it (despite being an Australian ship, we were surprised to learn that tipping was still applicable). Which is fair enough, but part of customer service is providing what the customer asked for, particularly when they approached us first. Particularly in the Waterfront Restaurant, we noticed long wait times to get the menu and dirty tables everywhere because there just wasn’t the staff around to clean it up. However, we did not have this experience in the other restaurants, Angelo’s or the Dragon Lady.

We also found some of the staff to be quite pushy, particularly in the photography area. At one point, we were getting pushed to buy a $4,000 AUD photo package for something as ridiculous as 22 photos. As two young people who don’t make a lot of money, to buy photos for nearly double the price of the WHOLE cruise was just insane to us. Honestly, we couldn’t afford to say yes to something like that, particularly when the photos weren’t even that good. We noticed as soon as we said no, the crew member who was so nice to us turned quite rude and grumpy. We get it, they probably rely on sales, but being rude because we didn’t buy an expensive photo package we thought was poor customer service. And we did buy two 5×7 photos for $30 AUD, so it’s not like we didn’t buy anything.

However, that was only two very minor experiences. The rest of the time, the crew were wonderful, very happy to serve and friendly conversationalists. Our room stewards, Jenny and Marjorie, were the sweetest crew members onboard and always greeted us in the morning with the biggest smile and a polite ‘sir’ and ‘ma’am’. Could not fault their service.

The ship itself

The Pacific Explorer is an old girl – at 27 years old, it’s just slightly older than me. As with most ships this age, there are signs that it is outdated, particularly in the cabins. The rest of the ship was given a makeover in 2020, so it does look modern and inviting. The cabins look straight out of the 90s, and there were signs of rust, particularly on the balcony railing. However, the room was kept clean and the bed was quite comfortable.

p&o cruise verifly

The ship did have plenty of spaces to sit and relax during the day, which is always a necessity on a cruise. My boyfriend and I enjoyed sitting at Charlie’s Bar (the cafe) in the main foyer with a coffee and hot chocolate, just watching the world go by. However, we found that at night, the restaurants, entertainment venues and bars got quite crowded – sometimes, we had to miss shows or felt rushed to eat quickly because of the lines and crowds. For example, bingo, the most popular activity on board, was held in the black circus, which probably seats about 100. There were wayyy more people than that who wanted to play, so they had to stand to be a part of it. It just made me think, why wouldn’t you hold it in the theatre, which seats double that amount?

The congestion in the restaurants was probably due to the fact that three of them were closed or had limited availability due to staff shortages, so everyone was forced to go to the same restaurants.

This is only part one of my P&O review – stay tuned for part two coming soon!

News Release

Even more to ‘like’ on p&o with new onboard app.

Australia's leading cruise line, P&O Cruises has launched its first onboard app allowing guests to plan their activities, make bookings and share experiences in real time throughout their cruise.

Available free on personal devices when connected to P&O Cruises' Wi-Fi, the WhatsOn app provides a new way for holidaymakers to stay in touch during their trip.

The app allows families and friends travelling together to send messages to one another, check in and ‘like' locations as well as recommend activities, ensuring no one misses out on any holiday fun.

Guests can also book shore tours with a few clicks, check their onboard account, view special promotions available across the ship and keep up to date with the latest news from around the world.

With the app also providing the daily schedule of activities for the entire cruise, guests can book their preferred activities online and create a wish list for each day.

P&O Cruises President Sture Myrmell said the app would revolutionise onboard customer service.

"We're delighted to be able to offer this easy-to-use technology free of charge to all our guests to help them stay connected during their holiday and provide easy access to onboard and shore experiences. It's as simple as connecting a personal device to the P&O Wi-Fi and opening a browser to discover everything WhatsOn has to offer," Mr Myrmell said.

"Never again will our guests suffer from FOMO or wonder which restaurant or bar their friends are in. This app will be the new must-have item for all P&O guests."

The app launched across most of the fleet last week with Pacific Aria set to come online later this week.

The cruise line is also rolling out new cash kiosks which will allow guests to transfer money onto their cruise card without needing to queue up at the front desk.

"Australians are getting more and more used to self-service so we thought it was time to bring more of it onboard. We hope that by empowering our guests to organise some elements of their cruise quickly and easily through technology, they'll have even more time to enjoy their cruise holiday."

News Release

Carnival cruise line launches verifly digital health wallet in all of its u.s. homeports.

Carnival Largest Cruise Line to Utilize VeriFLY App to Facilitate Travel

MIAMI, March 10, 2022 – Carnival Cruise Line is making health screening simpler and quicker for guests. After a successful pilot of VeriFLY™ by Daon, a secure and free digital health app allowing vaccinated guests to easily submit pre-embarkation information, Carnival has launched the app fleetwide for all ships in all of its U.S. homeports, making Carnival the largest cruise line to utilize VeriFLY.              Guests who use the VeriFLY app can expect the time it takes to complete the health assessment process during embarkation to be cut in half.             “VeriFLY helps our guests easily and securely complete pre-embarkation tasks right from their smartphone. Guests can save time at the port and get on board faster by completing the process via VeriFLY,” said Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy.             Using the app has been an easy choice for guests from the start. In the pilot program’s first test in January, ahead of a cruise on Mardi Gras from Port Canaveral, more than 85 percent of the 2,000 guests who opened an email invitation followed through by downloading the VeriFLY app. “We were very pleased to hear about the success of the VeriFLY app used in the pilot stage with Carnival Cruise Line and are now excited to see the full deployment of VeriFLY fleetwide for all ships in all of its U.S. homeports,” said Daon CEO Tom Grissen.             Available in the App Store or Google Play, once guests download VeriFLY, they can then search for Carnival Cruise Line and complete the required steps. Guests will be asked to submit required documentation, including vaccination status and COVID-19 test results. When the process is successfully completed, a VeriFLY pass will be issued in the app to present at embarkation. For more information on VeriFLY and the process, click here . Guests who choose not to complete the VeriFLY process are still able to complete their pre-cruise tasks on Carnival.com and present required COVID-19 documents during their embarkation. 7 of the best Northern Lights holidays in Norway

A site of mystical intrigue from its spectacular fjords to hospitable harbour cities, northern Norway is an epicentre for the luminescent dance of the elusive Northern Lights .

Long, dark nights and clear cloudless skies from Tromsø to Svalbard go hand in hand with stargazing spectacles including the ribbons of colour that waltz above the dramatic landscape, and the famed bucket list experience welcomes visitors to snap images of whisps of green aurora.

Though successfully sighting the unpredictable phenomenon is entirely weather and location-dependent – occasionally even the skies of north Wales and Scotland become a ballroom for the charged solar particles – a getaway to the Arctic Circle is sure to increase your chances of a thrilling chase.

Cool cruises, skiing holidays and even sustainable train travel options take you off-piste far from light pollution, and the lights are complemented by the classic activities that come with a northern Norway trip – reindeer sleigh rides, Sami hut sips of gløgg, snowmobiling adventures and husky dog sledging.

From unique stays in a Snow Hotel to the Borealis on a budget during cosy city breaks, here are the best Northern Lights holidays to book in Norway this winter.

  3. Is VeriFLY app absolutely necessary for P&O?

Those rules are enforced in the background. VeriFLY was essential to report your vaxx status well in advance of boarding, as there was a 95% vaccinated rule, and the cruise lines needed to confirm those so they could allocate spots to the 5% (mostly unvaxxed children under 12).. That 95% rule has gone by the wayside, so VeriFLY serves no purpose other than to speed-up everybody's check-in ...

  6. P&O VeriFLY

P&O, as of 31st May, was a normal check-in, but with the certificate and attest added as well. Through the 3rd party, Verifly just ticks a Vaxx certificate box for P&O to confirm you are entitled to cruise. Attesting through the app is clunky, but can also be done on Cruise Control when it is due.

The P&O Cruises website was incredibly unhelpful regarding how to board, when to RAT test and how to use the Verifly app that they require you to put your details on.
