Carnival Cruise Line aims for July restart from Florida and Texas, cancels other sailings through July

Carnival Cruise Line, Carnival Corp.'s flagship line, announced schedule shifts Tuesday, canceling some cruises as it jockeys to restart some sailings in U.S. waters in July on select ships.

"Carnival hopes to begin operating sailings on three ships from Florida and Texas, including Carnival Vista and Carnival Breeze from Galveston, and Carnival Horizon from Miami," the cruise line said in a statement provided by spokesperson Vance Gulliksen.

Cruises could start sailing  from U.S. ports this summer, according to a letter from the CDC to the cruise industry that USA TODAY obtained late last month.

If the company can also find a solution for cruise ships to visit Alaska, where ships are unable to sail through February 2022 due to Canada's cruise ban , then Carnival Miracle will take on some of Carnival Freedom's Seattle departures.

Given that there is uncertainty as to whether those sailings will happen, travelers who have booked those voyages may cancel without penalty by May 31 to receive a full refund.

The cruise line said it will cancel scheduled sailings on all other ships through July 30. Passengers who have had cruises canceled are eligible for a full refund or future cruise credit plus an onboard credit.

“We continue to have constructive discussions with the CDC but still have many questions that remain unanswered.  We are working diligently to resume sailing in the U.S. and meet the CDC guidelines,” Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said in the statement.
