Niche User: I like the small classes, it helps with focused studies. They can somehow cram all that knowledge but make it feel like a game of paper. The diversity has risen over the years, and lots of the kids are nice. It helps prepare students for upcoming years and incorporates all of the "specials" and "electives" into the classes or you can sign up for an after school activity. You get to bring your own food which helps with allergy and health worries from stressed parents. I've seen two very nice janitors and lots of encouraging words all around. Thank you Magellan Charter for being a great school. ... Read 14 reviews

Peak Charter Academy

Parent: My son just started at Peak Charter Academy last week and so far I am very impressed and completely happy with everything! From the amazing tour we received at the school that was so informative and the whole ease of the registration process, to all the spectacular communication via emails and texts. Everyone that we encountered working at this school is so nice, knowledgable and helpful. I feel this school is really organized and just overall a great school and there are continuous emails and/or texts from teachers, the principal and the school staff with updated information...which is wonderful to have! On top of everything my son already loves this school since day 1, he likes all his teachers, he is excited to go to school, really engaged in all his classes, made friends easily and is overall just a great experience. It is a breath of fresh air compared to my son's previous schools. I can't wait to see how else this school will impress me. Thank you! ... Read 6 reviews

TMSA Triangle - Triangle Math and Science Academy

  • • Rating 3.71 out of 5   51 reviews

Junior: Triangle math and science academy is a very solid charter school in the triangle area and deserves to be considered if you are a student looking to peruse an education in business, engineering, mathematics, or any other STEM subject. The school is great for preparing students for college and their careers by offering college level CTE courses from PLTW. If you are interested in DECA or FBLA, triangle math and science boasts top chapters in both of those competitions. The main waypoint of this school is its lack of resources and facilities as it is not even done being built as of right now. This can mostly be attributed to its small size which gives it the advantage of allowing every student to get to know everyone else and feel more at home compared to schools with 2,000+ students. Most of all however I love the way that TMSA allows its students to take ownership of what they do both in their classes, their clubs, and other programs such as Leader In Me. ... Read 51 reviews

Parent: We switched our daughter from River Dell Elementary School that does have some amazing teachers but it's so overcrowded. This School now JCA gives homework like it should. Gives lots of tests and the kids really learn. Lots of diversity. They use A-F grading system so you really see when your child is improving. You see every test grade, homework assignment score etc.. if you want your child to progress and do well this is the School! If you are too busy and don't have time for homework or studying for tests send them to public schools nearby. Oh another huge plus it's super clean. As far as covid they handled it so well. I could go on for days how amazing the school is. My only wish is it went till 12th grade. ... Read 1 review

Durham School of the Arts

Durham Public Schools, NC •

  • • Rating 3.91 out of 5   279 reviews

Senior: As an artist, I love attending a school that provides numerous opportunities for the artistic. Our school is old, and as a result, frequently has physical issues within the building---however, nothing threatening our safety. I love the history integrated with our more than 100-year-old building. Unfortunately, I find that students are rarely listened to. When requests for change are made we are usually ignored, and statements of sexual assault, or general discomfort have time and time again been disregarded. Our district is criminally underpaid, with a strike just fading off these past few weeks after many, many canceled days of school. Our administration could surely be better, but it could also surely be worse. ... Read 279 reviews

Franklin Academy

  • • Rating 3.98 out of 5   245 reviews

Senior: I have been attending Franklin Academy since kindergarten and one thing that has always been very clear is how much the teachers care for their students. I do not think that I have ever had a teacher that showed anything less than genuine love and care for their students' wellbeing. Of course, some teachers were more liked than others, but at the end of the day, I left school feeling satisfied with my learning. There are a few rules and how those rules were enforced throughout high school that probably could have been addressed differently. They're confusing with their dress code, letting somethings slide one year and not allowing them the next. The QR codes to sign out for anytime a student leaves class is a bit unnecessary. If a student needs to use the restroom they shouldn't be timed. Granted, some students did take advantage of the freedom we used to have regarding leaving the classrooms, but those few people's decisions shouldn't effect the entire student body. ... Martin Middle School

  • • Rating 3.87 out of 5   23 reviews

Freshman: Overall, Martin is a great school. The elective choices are amazing (lots of variety). The performing arts at Martin are especially good, with classes like Honors Chorus getting to skip days of school and sometimes travel around the country performing. The quality of the teachers, the classes, and the programs are top-notch here. However, a lot of students do vape. There are a big bunch of kids here that you could consider as "in the hood". The teachers usually do not catch students vaping or sometimes doing drugs. I found myself in a friend group that had really supportive and amazing people. As long as you find your tribe and take advantage of the vast variety of opportunities here, you will come out with an extremely enriching experience. ... Read 23 reviews

Congratulations to our Fall & Winter Sports Teams…

Boys’ Basketball went 13-1 to become Central Conference Champions!

Girls’ Basketball went 12-2 as Runners Up with their only losses from the Undefeated Conference Champions.

Girls’ Soccer went 7-0 becoming Undefeated Conference Champions for the Second time in the past three years!

Football looked great in their “New Blues” Uniforms posting a 4-2 record with their only losses coming from a combined 7 points!

Volleyball faced some tough competition in the always challenging Central Conference but had an amazing season as they grew together representing Ligon with Pride & Poise.  Way to Go Ladies!

Cheerleading demonstrated Pride & Poise along with a ton of School Spirit through both Fall & Winter Sports Seasons and they also hosted an alumni night at our last Home game where past members joined the Cheer Squad for a special halftime performance.  Let’s Go Ligon!
