After decades Fogerty finally got his publishing rights back
After decades of struggle, the legendary Creedence Clearwater Revival vocalist and guitarist John Fogerty finally got his publishing rights back. The battle started more than 50 years ago when the band signedd to Fantasy Records that was owned by Saul Zaentz.
After he saw the terms of the deal were unfair he tried for years to get out of the contract. In 1980 he relinquished his royalties to the record executive and didn’t received the money for the use of his songs decades.
1985 he was even sued by Zaentz for “self-plagiarism”, because his solo song “The Old Man Down The Road” had similarities with CCR’s classic track “Run Through The Jungle”. Fogerty won that case in court.
Now, in 2023 the musician announced that he bought back the rights to his own songs.

JOHN FOGERTY Continues His 'Celebration Tour' This Summer - Kicking off June 2nd
Article contributed by mad ink pr | published on monday, march 11, 2024.
Announced today, legendary rock musician John Fogerty continues his “Celebration Tour” this summer. This highly anticipated tour marks a significant milestone as it's the first time Fogerty is performing his songs since acquiring ownership of his extensive song catalog. Kicking off on June 2nd in South Carolina, this exhilarating journey will weave its way along the East Coast throughout June 20th in Lenox, MA. Joining in the party as special guests are fellow ‘bad to the bone’ music icons, George Thorogood & The Destroyers and rock band, Hearty Har. The current tour schedule is below with more dates expected to be added soon.
Tickets go on sale starting Friday, March 15 at 10:00 AM local time with presale tickets available on Tuesday, March 12 at 10:00 AM local time. More information can be found by visiting: JohnFogerty.com Of touring for the first time with good friend Thorogood, Fogerty said, “George and I have done shows together before but for years we’ve talked about doing a full tour together. This summer we decided time is short, we better do this now!” With George Thorogood echoing, “Celebrating the music of John Fogerty at the same time we celebrate our 50th Anniversary is just about as good as it can get. I’m looking forward to being out there with my friend, John!" As founder of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fogerty’s career spans 50 years and he is hailed as one of the most influential musicians in rock history. As the writer, singer and producer of numerous classic hits including “Born on the Bayou”, “Green River”, “Proud Mary”, and “Bad Moon Rising”, Fogerty has been honored as one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists, 100 Greatest Songwriters, and 100 Greatest Singers by Rolling Stone. Earning induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame, and Baseball Hall of Fame, he is also a New York Times best-selling author for his memoir, Fortunate Son: My Life, My Music. In January 2023 he regained control over his works, acquiring majority interest of his worldwide publishing rights from Concord. Currently on a worldwide Celebration Tour, Fogerty is now performing his classic songs, with his two sons, for the first time since owning his catalog of songs which have resonated with fans for over five decades.
On the evening of December 1st, 1973 at The University of Delaware’s Lane Hall, a guitarist, a drummer, and their rhythm guitarist set up on the small bandstand. Though the three-piece band had barely rehearsed, guitarist George Thorogood and drummer Jeff Simon had been bashing out covers of songs they loved – including ‘No Particular Place To Go’, ‘Madison Blues’ and ‘One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer’ – in suburban Wilmington basements since they were teens. The Lane Hall audience was wary at first. “Then it was like somebody flipped a switch,” Simon recalls. “Everybody hit the dance floor all at once.” Thorogood adds, “We had the place rockin’, from that very first show, Jeff and I knew we were onto something.” Five decades, 15 million albums and more than 8,000 performances later, few bands can still rock the house like George Thorogood & Destroyers. And for Thorogood, Simon, and long-time Destroyers Bill Blough, Jim Suhler and Buddy Leach, their Bad All Over The World – 50 Years of Rock Tour will be a celebration like no other.
Led by brothers Shane Fogerty (guitar/vocals) and Tyler Fogerty (guitar/vocals), the Los Angeles rock band Hearty Har formed in 2012 and quickly became known for their exciting and raucous live shows. Backed by Jesse Wilson (bass), Richard Millsap (drums), Nick Stratton (guitar) and Douglas Lamothe (keys), the band blends modern psychedelia with classic garage rock and roll. Imagine a neon lightning bolt extending from the stage and reaching deep into your heart, down to your feet, then through the ground to the Earth's core. Now you have an idea of Hearty Har's live show. “We are incredibly excited to join John Fogerty and George Thorogood on tour! Hearty Har will open up every show with our own blend of rock and roll, and then join John as his backing band,” explains the band. “Get ready to rock out with us all summer!”

This tour announcement comes after Fogerty finally acquired the rights to CCR’s songs early last year, ending a nearly 60-year legal battle. Fogerty’s fight dates back to 1967 when film producer and record company executive Saul Zaentz purchased Fantasy Records , which Creedence signed to back in 1964 when they were still known as The Blue Velvets . Fogerty for years attempted to extricate himself and the CCR entity from Fantasy even long after the band had broken up. In 1980, he sold his rights to Zaentz to get out of the deal, with the exec even unsuccessfully suing Fogerty in 1985 for self-plagiarism, claiming that John’s solo song “The Old Man Down the Road” was a ripoff of CCR’s “Run Through The Jungle”. For a quarter century, Fogerty didn’t receive any royalties for his large catalog of Creedence hits like “Fortunate Son”, “Have You Ever Seen The Rain”, “Bad Moon Rising”, and “Proud Mary” and refused to play them live.
That decades-long fight finally ended in early 2023 when Fogerty purchased a majority interest in Creedence’s catalog from Concord Records for an undisclosed sum. Concord bought Fantasy in 2004 and reinstated and increased Fogerty’s royalties, which he hadn’t received since his 1980 deal with Zaentz. The company still owns the band’s master recordings but will continue to pay his publishing royalties. Under U.S. copyright law, the rights to the songs will begin reverting back to Fogerty 56 years after they were published.
“The happiest way to look at it is, yeah, it isn’t everything,” he told Billboard . “It’s not a 100% win for me, but it’s sure better than it was. I’m really kind of still in shock. I haven’t allowed my brain to really, actually, start feeling it yet.”

John Cameron Fogerty is an American musician, songwriter, and guitarist who is best known as the lead singer and lead guitarist for the band Creedence Clearwater Revival.
His first band may never have existed at the beginning of Fogerty's career as John was nearly drafted into the United States Military in 1966, but instead joined an Army Reserve unit. He served at Fort Bragg, Fort Knox, and Fort Lee before being discharged from the Army in July 1967. In the same year, the band changed its name to Creedence Clearwater Revival and John took his brother's place as lead singer for the band.
They enjoyed success as a band following the release of their self titled debut in 1968 which featured their first hit single 'Susie Q'. The following releases all charted within the top 20 of the US Billboard album charts with the 1969 'Green Water' topping the chart, it is now certified three times platinum selling. CCR hold the record for having five number two singles on the US Billboard charts but never achieving a number one, this includes songs such as 'Proud Mary' and 'Bad Moon Rising'.
After the demise of CCR Fogerty began a solo career, originally under the name The Blue Ridge Rangers for his 1973 LP debut. He began with quite a country & western sound before moving towards more traditional rock & roll on early singles such as 'Comin' Down The Road'. With his first album releases he struggled to match the success he had achieved with CCR, however his first comeback album 'Centerfield' which was released through Warner Bros managed to top the US charts once again. After this his albums' chartings progressively declined before the 2013 LP 'Wrote A Song For Everyone' managed to reappear in the top 5. Fogerty is currently listed on Rolling Stone magazine's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists at number 40 and the list of 100 Greatest Singers at number 72.
Live reviews
John Fogerty is a wholesome genuine artist that plays his heart an soul out for his fans an people who are lucky enough to get a chance to see this living legend. I have listen to John Fogerty since I was knee high to a grasshopper. My older brother listened to CCR lead by John Fogerty so that's how I got my first intro to this great artist.
All my life I listened to the foot stomping hand clapping driving sounds of music that made my heart pound an make me wanna dance. I'm 57 now an I know 10 year old kids that listen to John. I feel so very fortunate I got a chance to meet John Fogerty. What an adventure what a thrill of a lifetime for me to come face to face an meet the man that's music rocked the world. He's a down to earth man that wants nothing more than to create an play great forever classicals. I had seen John Fogerty 5 times.
No one show was the same as the last as he is always changing always evolving. The common thread of each show is Johns desire to entertain to make sure the audience got more than their money's worth so we all went home feeling uplifted an thrilled about the evening.
The show in Dawson Creek was another exciting heart pounding night. It's amazing just looking around seeing most fans myself included singing along with John on all his songs. John showed us his amazing musical talents playing at least a dozen different sounding guitars. John also dazzled the crowd with some amazing piano playing he is almost limitless with his talents. The show was awesome it had everything lights, fog, fire, video clips and plastic sixties flowers and paper confetti raining down all over the crowd.
John had a small stage set at the back of the arena where he snuck threw the crowd an appeared out of nowhere an gave the people sitting far far away a very close up an amazing show. It goes to show you John wants everyone to enjoy themselves.
I can say in all honesty the whole crowd went home buzzing an thrilled about the show. John just keeps on chooglin. Needless to say I'll be going back to see an hear John again an would highly recommend it to anyone. Sincerely Kevin Luffman

I was really thrilled to get to see John Fogerty. I was a huge Creedence Clearwater Revival fan growing up and know a lot of their songs by heart. I also can play many of them on the guitar. This show was in a small place and it was very quaint. He had a very small band and most of what he played was acoustic. The band was great but he was clearly the highlight.
He also did some of his famous solo tunes that were such big hits in the 1980’s. He did the song “Center Field” which took me back to my childhood and watching the video for that song that had all of the baseball bloopers in it. The show was not that long but it was very good.
The great thing was that he did not shy away from the CCR songs, like "Bad Moon Rising" and "Fortunate Son" that most people wanted to hear. He brought the house down with those famous songs. His voice is still as great as was when he was much younger. He also had such good energy and the audience did as well. It was really just a fun experience and one that I would strongly recommend to anyone. I also would advise any old CCR fans to attend this.
We attended the John Fogerty concert in beautiful Penticton BC Canada. We grew up listening to John's music and CCR but never had the opportunity to see one of his shows. When this concert was announced we grabbed tickets the first day, so we had good seats to watch the band play. It was great to see him perform all his classic songs.
The bands performance was good and the music is timeless. All our friends who saw the show enjoyed it as well. His guitar picking is amazing as well as his guitar collection. The plaid blue guitar that matches his plaid blue shirt is truly a work of art.
John's voice is one of the most unique voices and his live performance is spot on. It was an opportunity of a life time and we are great full to have attended.
We will gladly go again if the opportunity arises.
My husband is a huge John Fogerty fan , we go see him every time he comes to Canada and got the pleasure to meet him in Las Vegas in January. This was a dream and says John is a very pleasant man to talk to. We are planning to attend John up coming concert again in Vegas in October He literally listens to his music for hours every day the biggest Fogerty fan I believe there is. Lol John you give so much pleasure to so many people. I really don’t think you know what you give to us fans. Thank you Sir
This is my third time seeing him in the last 5 years. My seats this time were perfect. 9th row center orchestra. He started late but it was worth the wait. It was 2 hours of non-stop terrific music. John is such a good guitarist and singer. He is also so pleasant. The rest of the band were all excellent musicians too. They played Credence stuff and some cover songs. By the middle of the show everyone was standing until the end. I can't wait to see him again which is in 3 hours at another venue.
This concert was the best concert I've ever seen! Fogerty really knows how to put on a show! Once he started, he didn't stop. There were barely any lulls in the show, and if there was one it was because he was setting up for another instrument. Once he played Fortunate Son, you thought it was over, but nope! There was still Bad Moon Rising and Proud Mary to play. All in all it was a great concert and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys the Classic Rock genre.
It was my second time, hearing John Fogerty live. It was a joy. Great performer, great talent, great time with my friends. 26 songs throughout CCR greatest hits, Fogerty's solo highlights and last but not the least, some marvelous hidden gems from his long time songbook. To me, hearing John Fogerty is both seeing a legend and - most important - living a legend.
Amazing nonstop music from one song immediately into the next w various guitars used by John including the one he bought as a kid and lost track of it for many years only now to have it in his possession once again! His foot stomping hit after hit was phenomenal especially his jam with his son Shane! Fabulous incredible concert start to finish!
Over 100 minutes of bluesy, soulful rock & roll gained momentum to reach a joyous crescendo where nearly everyone was on their feet enjoying the beat or dancing. If an opportunity to attend this great legend's concert comes along, say "yes"! God bless John Fogerty! -Sheila S., Vancouver, July 2018
My all time favourite singer it has to be said from him and his fantastic band took the stage the place was rocking all the fans were singing to every song we kne all the words as far as I'm concerned it was the best concert I was ever at pure class magic is the word I use to describe the show.

Not a bad price to see one of rock and roll’s most enduring stars live.

Keep scrolling, Fogerty fans.

The legendary Red Headed Stranger has 26 concerts lined up from July through October with a rotating cast of special guests like Avett Brothers , Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead , Tedeschi Trucks Band , Los Lobos , Marcus King and many, many more.
Over the course of the tour, Nelson and his band of merry renegades will drop into Darien Center, NY’s Darien Lake Performing Arts Center on July 30, Holmdel, NJ’s PNC Bank Arts Center on Aug. 6, Saratoga Springs, NY’s Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Sept. 15 and Queens, NY’s Forest Hills Stadium on Sept. 17.

John Fogerty new music
Just this year, Fogerty released a jazzy live version of “Joy Of My Life.”
The love song, which originally appeared on Fogerty’s 1997 solo album “Blue Moon Swamp” shows that Fogerty still has his signature pipes intact.
Plus, the extended sax solos don’t hurt either.
You can hear the 6.5-minute track — that also happens to be an ode to his wife, Julie — here .
John Fogerty set list
Based on what Fogerty played live at his 2022 Las Vegas residency at Encore Theater, Creedence Clearwater Revival fans needn’t worry about whether or not he’ll play the hits you know and love.

John Fogerty announces Tour Dates
Legendary singer-songwriter and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee John Fogerty has announced two UK dates for his 2023 tour, The Celebration Tour, where he will once again be joined by his sons Shane and Tyler and their band, Hearty Har . Fogerty is set to perform at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK on May 25, followed by The O2 in London, UK on May 29. Presales for The O2 begin on Thursday, March 9 at 10:00 am GMT, with Live Nation and venue pre-sales for both dates on Friday, March 10 at 10:00 am GMT. Public on-sale is set for both dates starting Saturday, March 11 at 10:00 am GMT. To purchase tickets, please visit www.johnfogerty.com . Fogerty has lots to celebrate in 2023. The composer of iconic songs that have inspired generations – “Proud Mary,” “Down on the Corner,” “Fortunate Son,” and “Bad Moon Rising,” among many others – acquired a majority interest of the worldwide publishing rights to his historic song catalog from Concord. The compositions have been both a decades-long dream and a personal mission for John. For years, the copyrights to Fogerty’s classic songs were the property of Saul Zaentz, the owner of Fantasy Records, who sold the label and its publishing portfolio to the former Concord Music Group in 1995. Fogerty, who extricated himself from Fantasy in 1974, re-signed with the label upon its purchase by Concord. Even so, he was not able to gain ownership of his songs – until now. “As of this January, I own my own songs again. This is something I thought would never be a possibility. After 50 years, I am finally reunited with my songs. I also have a say in where and how my songs are used. Up until this year, that is something I have never been able to do. I am looking forward to touring and celebrating this year! I want to thank Concord for helping to make all of this happen. And, I am excited for new ideas and a renewed interest in my music … like a revival,” said Fogerty.

John Fogerty announces two UK arena shows
The new dates from the Creedence Clearwater Revival man are in addition to his already announced festival show in the Outer Hebrides
John Fogerty has announced a two-date arena tour of The UK. The Creedence Clearwater Revival man will play at Manchester's AO Arena on May 25, and London's O2 on May 29. The public ticket sale for both shows will begin on March 11 at 10am.
Joining Fogerty on the Celebration Tour will be Harty Har, the psychedelic rock band led by Fogerty's sons Shane and Tyler. The tour is named after historic decision that saw Forgerty take ownership of his back catalogue after legal battles stretching back over half a century.
"As of this January, I own my own songs again," says Fogerty. "This is something I thought would never be a possibility. After 50 years, I am finally reunited with my songs. I also have a say in where and how my songs are used. Up until this year, that is something I have never been able to do.
"I am looking forward to touring and celebrating this year! And, I am excited for new ideas and a renewed interest in my music… like a revival."
The two new dates are in addition to Fogerty's already-announced May 26 booking at the Midnight Sun Weekender , which will be held in the grounds of Lews Castle, Stornoway, on the Outer Hebridean Isle of Lewis. Other acts performing at the Weekender include Pretenders, Primal Scream , Ocean Colour Scene, Spiritualized, Edwyn Collins and Public Service Broadcasting.
In other Fogerty news, Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1970 classic Have You Ever Seen The Rain has passed the historic one billion streams landmark on Spotify.
“I am honoured and humbled that my song has been loved by so many for all these years," says Fogerty. "I’m just so grateful. Ironically, I wrote this song about my band breaking up, but today, the song has found new meaning for me. I love to dedicate it to my family because they are the rainbow that comes from rain falling on a sunny day.”

John Fogerty Announces Tour Dates With George Thorogood
John Fogerty has announced new summer dates for his Celebration Tour, which marks the first time the former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman has performed the songs since acquiring the rights to them early last year.
The tour also features opening support from George Thorogood & the Destroyers. The dates start on June 2 in Simpsonville, South Carolina.
While Fogerty and Thorogood have appeared on concert bills in the past, this summer's run of nearly 20 shows marks the first time they've gone on tour. "George and I have done shows together before, but for years we’ve talked about doing a full tour together," Fogerty said in a press release announcing the dates. "This summer we decided time is short, we better do this now."

Thorogood canceled some dates last spring to deal with a "very serious medical condition." He's since recovered and will launch a tour on April 5 before joining Fogerty on tour two months later.
Where Is John Fogerty Playing Shows in 2024?
After the Fogerty and Thorogood tour starts in early June, the shows will work their way through dates in Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut. Fogerty will also play a few dates with this band without Thorogood as support. You can see the list of tour dates below.
The Celebration Tour is the first time Fogerty has performed his classic Creedence Clearwater Revival songs as the owner of them. He signed away the publishing rights to his work in 1967, the year the band signed to Fantasy Records.
Over the years he has fought with Fantasy owner Saul Zaentz, who sued Fogerty in 1985, claiming his solo hit "The Old Man Down the Road" sounded too similar to CCR's "Run Through the Jungle." Fogerty bought the publishing rights to his songs in early 2023, although Fantasy Records still owns the master recordings of Creedence's records.
Tickets for Fogerty and Thorogood's tour go on sale March 15 at 10 a.m. local time, with presale tickets available on Tuesday starting at 10 a.m. local time. You can find more information at Fogerty's website .
