How to Factory Reset an RCA Tablet? [4 Working Methods]

posted on January 11, 2022

Resetting your RCA tablet makes sense if you have been facing numerous issues with the device. Be it ruminating over a hard-to-recall password or responding to the tablet that has been acting up recently, resetting is probably the best option to get it back to the original internal state.

You can consider the Soft Reset if the issues are only limited to speed and performance. However, I would recommend a Hard Reset or rather a Factory Reset if you want to get rid of all the problems, like app freezing, slow internet, overheating, and more, once and for all.

But then, you must remember that a hard or factory reset wipes out every bit of on-device data, without giving any chance to recover the same. Therefore, it is advisable to get a backup at the earliest.

Factory Reset Methods

Before you move ahead with the reset, you need to understand a few aspects. Firstly, RCA offers an exciting range of tablets, including Android and Windows-powered devices. Therefore, resetting the device while it’s turned on, depends on the type of operating system that the tablet boots.

I’ve written two methods for Android RCA Tablets and two methods for windows-based RCA devices. You can navigate using the below options:

  • Android RCA Tablet (Powered Off)
  • Android RCA Tablet (From Settings, when powered on)
  • Windows RCA Tablet (Powered Off)
  • Windows RCA tablet (Powered on)

Method 1: Android Tablet: Powered-Off

Prerequisite : Ensure that the RCA tablet is switched off and every accessory is unplugged or taken out, including the SD card.

Step 1: Switch off the tablet

If you find it hard to switch the tablet off via the conventional, on-screen instructions, there is a reset button at the back to do exactly the same. Remember that thhis button is only meant for the Soft Reset.

Step 2: Boot into recovery mode

Once the tablet is off, wait for a few seconds and then hold the power button and the Volume Up (+) key, simultaneously.

While you can find the power key adhered to the top rim of the tablet, the Volume keys can either be at the back or on the edge, depending on the RCA tablet model.

Buttons on RCA tablet

Keep holding the mentioned buttons till the time the RCA logo is visible. Within a second or two, you would be redirected to the Android Bot interface that comes with the caution symbol and takes you to the recovery menu.

The recovery menu looks more like a standard BIOS interface with several options available for booting, updating, or managing cache partition.

BIOS interface

Once you get to the recovery menu, release the buttons immediately.

Step 3: Choose Wipe Data / Factory Reset in recovery mode

Once the command prompt lookalike interface is in front, you can scroll down to the wipe data/ factory reset version by scrolling up and down using the volume up and down keys.

Choose wipe data option

You can select the command by pressing the power button once, which then asks for a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ prompt. Choose ‘Yes’.

Select yes on command prompt

Once the confirmation page is taken care of, you will see a ‘Wiping data’ notification at the lower end of the screen. This process might take 5 to 8 seconds, depending on the data housed by the RCA tablet.

Step 4: Reboot your Device from Recovery Mode

Once you see an intimation that says ‘Data Wiped’, you will be automatically redirected to the recovery page again, with the ‘Reboot System Now’ command at the top. You need to select the same to restart the device, by clicking on the power button.

After a few seconds, you will see the startup screen pop-up and you will have the old device in front of you with the software as good as new.

 Method 2: Android Tablet: Powered-On

You can consider resetting the device even with the tablet turned on if you have minor technical glitches and cache build-up to take care of. Here are the steps that can help:

Step 1: Go to Settings and Find “Backup & Reset” tab

Unlock the device and access the settings tab, just like you would on any other android tablet. Once you scroll down the settings menu, you will find the ‘Backup & Reset’ tab.

Backup and reset option

Step 2: Click on “Reset Tablet” option.

Upon selecting the ‘Reset Tablet’ option, you would need to restart the RCA tablet, in case auto-restart isn’t turned on.

Method 3: Windows Tablet: Powered-Off

If you own a Windows-powered RCA tablet, you are in some elite company. While the Voyager series is basically meant for the Android ecosystem, you are most likely to own the Cambio 10.1. This means, it is expected that the tablet might be connected to an external keyboard, which then makes it easier to reset.

Step 1: Use the “Reset” rear panel to start soft reset.

You can simply press the ‘Reset’ button at the rear panel to simply initiate a Soft Reset of sorts, provided you can get hold of a pin to access the same.

Step 2: Turn it on using Power button + Function Key + F9

Now, you need to turn it on by clicking on the power on button and press the Function key and the F9 simultaneously and repeatedly, till you get a ‘Please Wait’ notification.

Step 3: Go to Troubleshoot & find “Reset your PC”

You would then see the ‘Troubleshoot’ menu where you need to select the ‘Reset your PC’ as the preferred command.

Note: You can either clean a particular drive or simply remove certain files, depending on the preferences. Depending on the available data, the system might take 15 to even 60 minutes for getting the job done.

Also, the device might flash at times during the process but you need not worry and must not press any other key in the process.

Method 4: Windows Tablet: Powered-On

Once the tablet powers on, connect the same to the keyboard for accessing the controls better and faster.

Step 1: Go to Settings > Update & Security

Click on the Windows start menu and reach out to the settings. Then click on the ‘Update and Security’ option.

Update and security option

Step 2: Find the “Recovery” section to get the “Reset your PC” option.

Eventually, click on the ‘Recovery’ and you would be directed to the ‘Reset your PC’ option or the ‘Advanced Startup’ button for booting the software differently or restoring the Windows OS to its system image.

Step 3: Reset your PC and choose the reset option according to your needs

Once you click on ‘Reset your PC’, you will be prompted to choose an option, with one asking you to keep the files upon removing apps and saved settings and the other option prompting you to cleanse the entire system at once.

Factory reset options

You can select as per preference and the device will then restart multiple times to finally bring you the original version of the OS, which came with the device.

Frequently Asked Questons

As RCA tablets are extremely affordable devices, you can expect the software to get obsolete pretty quickly. Plus, the new-age apps and programs are expected to add to the Bloatware, which in turn slows down the tablet, significantly, a problem that only Factory reset can solve.

Factory reset or hard reset doesn’t only delete the apps, files, and programs. Instead, it also cleanses the tablet of the wireless settings, Google accounts, saved formats, alarms, and wipes out every memory that device has of prior correspondence.

While a soft reset is a glorified version of a simple restart, especially for refreshing the cache memory and speeding up certain tasks, a hard reset refers to a factory reset, which wipes out every data set, housed by the RCA tablet.

Yes, factory reset is a completely safe technique to make your RCA tablet feel like its older self. However, you need to carefully follow the instructions and should not press any other key while the tablet is getting fixed.

As seen, resetting an RCA tablet to its factory settings isn’t difficult but detail-intensive. Also, once you restore the same to the factory format, you can also get hold of the apps and programs that originally came as a part of the tablet.

Regardless, you need to look at the steps carefully, depending on the state of the device and the concerned operating platform.

How to Reset RCA Tablet – An Easy Guide to Bring it Back on Track

Whether your device has been showing a static screen for hours or you just want to set it to default settings to make it as good as new, the easiest solution is a reset. Unless your device has gone through major physical damages, you don’t need to take it to a shop for repair.

A lot of minor issues can be solved with a simple reset. Most people don’t know this and hence, don’t even try. You can follow these few easy steps and learn how to reset your RCA tablet at home.

Before You Start

Firstly, all glitches don’t require a reset. If the screen is not responding or the tab froze suddenly, what you need to know is how to reboot an RCA tablet in such a situation. Unlike most other tablets , RCA tablets come with a reset button at the back. The button is deep-set, so you may need a pin or paper clip to press it. Just long-press the reset button and your device will restart.

However, if you are facing any of the following issues like,

  • Slow performance or apps getting hung,
  • Forgot your password,
  • Or other glitches that are not fixed with a reboot,

Then you need to know how to factory reset RCA tablet , which is exactly what we have for you here.

Reset Process (Device On)

If you are not facing any technical issues and your tablet is working, you can factory reset it from Settings. This method can be used if you just want to erase your personal data or restore your device to default settings.

Unlock your device and open Settings.

Scroll down and you will find an option that says ‘backup and reset’. Tap on that and you will see a confirmation page that will tell you what happens once you confirm. It is recommended that you read this if you are unsure of what a factory reset will do to your device.

Alternatively ,  if you cannot find the ‘backup and reset’ option directly in Settings, it may be in a separate section. Go to Settings and then tap on Privacy. Here you will find the ‘backup and reset’ or ‘factory reset’ option.

You will see a button that says ‘reset tablet’ or ‘factory data reset’. Select that and let your device complete the process.

The reset is not completed until you restart the device. Some devices restart on their own, but if yours does not, you will have to restart it manually and your factory reset will be complete.

Reset Process (Device Off)

Use this method if you cannot unlock or turn on the tablet. For example, if you forgot your password . The steps for factory reset are similar but vary slightly for Android and Windows devices. We have covered both for your convenience.

Windows

The most common RCA tab that runs on Windows is the Cambio 10.1. Most Windows tablets come with a keyboard. So, here is how to factory reset RCA tablet with keyboard , which can also be used to reset any RCA Windows tab.

Completely switch off the device (if it isn’t off already).

Turn it on again and while it is loading, press and hold the “fn” (function) button and repeatedly press F9 on your keyboard. Keep pressing until you see ‘Please wait’ appear on the screen. Release the function button once it appears.

Wait a few seconds and select the ‘Troubleshoot’ option. Then select ‘Reset your PC’.

Next, you can either choose to just ‘remove files’ or ‘clean the drive’ completely (this will erase all your data and reset your tab to its default settings). Make your selection and you will see the RCA logo appear as well as the ‘loading’ animation.

Leave your device aside and let it proceed on its own.

Depending on your system setting, amount of data, etc. this process may take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. The device may turn on and off on its own during this, so do not manually press any buttons. Once the process is complete, your tablet will restart with its original factory settings.

For Windows tablets , if any software or applications do not seem to work properly after reset, run the Windows update. This should fix the problem.

Once the data is erased, you will be redirected to the command prompt screen. Next, select ‘reboot system now’, and let your device do the rest. How long it will take for the data to be erased depends on the amount you have stored.

Your device will restart and ask you to select your language, just like when you first turn on a new device.

You can use this method for both RCA Viking Pro   as well as to factory reset your RCA voyager tablet .

Using factory reset means you will lose your data. Unless this was your motive for resetting the device, make sure to backup. If you back it up properly or have a habit of using cloud storage, you have nothing to worry about. A factory reset can solve a lot of technical issues, but of course, it does not repair physical damages. Next time your device gets stuck, try this.

How to Reset an RCA Tablet: Simple Steps for a Quick Solution

Resetting an RCA tablet can resolve a range of issues from software glitches to performance lags, and it’s a key troubleshooting step to remember if you’re facing persistent problems with your device. Whether you’re planning to sell your tablet, experiencing operational issues, or simply want to clear all your data for a fresh start, a factory reset can help. It’s important to understand that a factory reset will erase all the data on your device, returning it to its original state when it left the factory.

how to reset rca voyager 3 tablet

Before embarking on a factory reset, ensure that all critical data is backed up, as the process is irreversible. There are multiple ways to reset your RCA tablet, including a soft reset for minor issues and a hard reset for more comprehensive reinstatement. The soft reset is akin to restarting your tablet and can be quickly done through the device’s power options. A hard reset, on the other hand, is more in-depth and can be executed through the tablet’s recovery mode or the settings menu. It’s essential to follow the appropriate steps for the type of reset you require to prevent any unintended data loss or further device issues.

Key Takeaways

  • Resetting an RCA tablet can help troubleshoot issues and prepare the device for a new user.
  • Backing up data beforehand is crucial as a factory reset will erase all user data from the tablet.
  • There are different methods to perform a reset, including soft and hard resets, each suited to specific scenarios.

Preparing to Reset Your RCA Tablet

Before resetting your RCA tablet, it’s essential to understand why a reset is needed, how to safeguard your data, and the importance of battery power during the process.

Understanding the Need for Reset

Resetting our RCA tablet can help solve several issues, such as unresponsiveness, slow performance, or forgotten passwords. A factory reset will restore the tablet to its original state by erasing all the personal data and downloaded apps. This process is particularly useful when we plan to sell or give away our tablet, ensuring that our personal information does not fall into someone else’s hands.

Backing Up Personal Data

Before performing a reset, we must backup important data to avoid losing our personal information. To back up data to a Google account:

  • Go to the tablet’s  Settings .
  • Tap on  Backup & Reset .
  • Ensure  Back up my data  is turned on.
  • Verify that the correct Google account is selected for backup.

Alternatively, we can transfer files to external storage like USB drives, SD cards, or cloud services.

Ensuring Battery Power

Adequate battery power is vital to avoid interruptions during the reset process. To ensure the tablet has enough charge:

  • Connect the tablet to a charger using the appropriate cable.
  • Press the  power button  to turn off the tablet only when it’s charged above 50%.
  • If the tablet does not show any sign of charging, check for any damage to the charging port or cable.

Performing a Soft Reset

how to reset rca voyager 3 tablet

A soft reset is our simple and quick solution to address minor problems, such as performance glitches or a temporary slowdown in tablet speed.

Restarting Your Tablet

To restart an RCA Tablet, we press and hold the  Power button . We advise holding the button for approximately 10 seconds or until the tablet’s screen turns off. Afterward, we release the button and wait for the tablet to power back on. This process usually resolves temporary issues and refreshes the device performance without impacting data.

Troubleshooting Minor Glitches

In cases where the tablet isn’t responding to touch or button inputs, we can still perform a soft reset. For most RCA tablets, if we’re encountering minor glitches or the tablet is lagging, a soft reset is a suitable first step in our troubleshooting process. By pressing the Power button until the  power off  option appears, we can initiate a shut down. If access to the touchscreen is not possible, some models come with a physical  Reset button  on the back, which we can utilize to force a restart.

Executing a Hard Reset

When our RCA tablet is unresponsive or has significant software problems, a hard reset, also known as a factory data reset, often resolves these issues. This process will erase all data and return the tablet to its default settings. We must ensure the device is powered off before starting the reset process.

Using Hardware Buttons

To initiate a hard reset, we start with the tablet powered off. We’ll press and hold the  Volume Up  button alongside the  Power  button. It’s crucial to hold these buttons simultaneously until the tablet powers on and shows the start logo.

Accessing Recovery Mode

After the logo appears, we release the  Power  button but continue to hold the  Volume Up  button until the tablet enters  Recovery Mode . The screen will display an Android recovery screen, where we can navigate using the volume buttons.

Selecting Wipe Data/Factory Reset Option

In Recovery Mode, we’ll press the  Volume Down  button to scroll down to the  “Wipe data/factory reset”  option. Once highlighted, the  Power  button is then used to select it. After selecting, we confirm the action which will commence the wiping of all data from the tablet, executing the hard reset. This action cannot be undone, so we make sure all important data have been backed up before proceeding.

Resetting RCA Tablet Through Settings Menu

  • Language:  Select your preferred language from the list.
  • Wi-Fi Setup:  Connect to a Wi-Fi network to activate your tablet and access online features.
  • Google Account:  Sign in with your Google account to access the Play Store and synchronize your data.

Restoring Backed-Up Data

If you have backed up your data, it’s time to restore it:

  • Google Account Restoration:  Log into the Google account used for the backup to start the restoration process.
  • Local Backups:  If you have backups on external storage, navigate to  Settings  >  Backup & reset  and select  Restore from external storage .

Be patient as the restoration can take some time depending on the data size.

Optimizing Your RCA Tablet’s Performance

To get the most out of your RCA tablet, consider the following for performance optimization:

  • Update Software:  Ensure the latest firmware is installed by going to  Settings  >  About tablet  >  System updates .
  • Manage Apps:  Install only necessary apps to prevent clutter and conserve resources.

Well 'factory reset' and 'hard reset' are two different things. The first is usually used when you are trying to keep data that is on the device. Which, if there is a virus, malware, bad app, etc., that was causing the problem in the first place, then a reset that keeps your data is not going to help. You can try a "Hard Reset". However, that will wipe all data on the device and bring it back to its original state. NOTE: Doing this will clear 'all' the data on your tablet, so it is suggested you not choose this option unless you have to, or aren't worried about losing anything on the device. RCA Voyager III Tablet Repair

Repair information and troubleshooting for the RCA Voyager III, a 7 inch budget tablet that uses Android 6.0 OS and can access the Google Play app store.

Support Questions

RCA stands for the Radio Corporation of America. RCA was a prominent electronics corporation in the United States from the 1920s to the 1980s. After the corporation was acquired by General Electric in 1986, RCA became a brand name only, owned by Sony and Technicolor and licensed to other companies for certain products. The RCA Voyager III is one of these products. This 7 inch budget tablet was sold exclusively at Walmart for $50 USD, and could access the Google Play Store. That feature and the low price weren’t enough to save this tablet from criticism, though. CNet’s review of the Voyager III attacks the design, slow processor, and battery life of this tablet compared to others in the same price range. The main redeeming quality of this tablet is that it can access the Google Play Store instead of the more limited Amazon App Store that comes with the Android operating system.
