Hello Kitty Island Adventure: tips and tricks for starting off
Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a massive game that has so many things to do and quests to discover, along with parts of the world to bring to life and characters to make your best friend. It's a game that you can easily sink the next six months into, by the looks of things, with just a lot to discover. Whether you are looking to create a big island of all of these classic Sanrio characters or you're looking to discover all sorts of crafting recipes, there is really a lot to do.
With so many different ways to play the game, we figured we'd guide you on some tips and tricks for starting off on Hello Kitty Island Adventure. This guide will help you know how to best use your items, how to collect more resources, how to make friends a bit more quickly and how to become a master of the time of day as well. There are lots of little tips and tricks to Hello Kitty Island Adventure, which can be used to get the most out of the game and to progress much quicker!
1 Tip #1 - Collect Everything
Walking around the island for the first time can be quite a lot, but make sure you keep an eye on the jump icon to see when it changes to the hand icon. This means you are by something that you can collect. There are lots of things to collect: rubber balls, sticks, coconuts, flowers, dropped chests, items that players are looking for, comic books ... having a good collection of items will mean that you can craft and always have some items to give away for gifts, which is useful within the game. Going around looking for items isn't as fun as just picking them up while you play!
2 Tip #2 - Know the best Gifts
Each of the characters can be given gifts on Hello Kitty Island Adventure, and will often give you a gift back and increase their friendship. It is worth learning what items everyone likes best so that you can give the best gifts to make the most impact. You can figure this out either by trial and error, or by asking other characters for advice on what their friends like. Finding all of the best gifts can really increase your friendship quickly and make sure you are getting the most out of your items.
Once you have figured out what item a character likes, you can use the Phone menu in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to find the Friends Menu. This will then showcase a Character Profile for each of the characters on the island, along with hints on what gifts they like through the tags that these items have.
3 Tip #3 - Learn what you need
When it comes to crafting, there are a lot of different resources that are needed to create various crafts. If you are struggling to know exactly what you can use an item for, you can navigate to the Inventory, and then select the Info button to discover more information about the item, including where you can find it and what it can be used for. This is for both resources and items required for quests, so if you are stuck and need an item, do check here!
4 Tip #4 - Use Friendship Blossoms
Playing the game daily can give you Friendship Blossoms, which you can then use to give your friends more gifts! A lot of the game itself progresses through friendship levels with the various characters, so giving a character a friendship blossom will allow you to give them three extra gifts for that day, which can really help continue the story!
5 Tip #5 - Get the extra Flour
Flour is a resource used to cook in Hello Kitty's cafe. This resource is one that you do need a lot of, but you will mostly be getting one from gifting an item to My Melody, finding Treasure Chests with flour or through rewards. However, you can get one extra flour a day from the shelf of ingredients in Hello Kitty's kitchen, so that you can bake more items each and every day!
6 Tip #6 - Change the time of day
If you want to skip to a specific time of day, which can be used to progress quests, then you can find a bed and sleep in it to change the time to whatever you'd like. This can allow you to progress your adventure and is just good to know, as Hello Kitty Island Adventure isn't real-time, and sometimes I prefer the light to the nighttime!
These are all the tips we have for you at the moment! Oh, actually, not quite. Do you know where to find all the Gudetama in Hello Kitty Island Adventure ?

How to Change Time of Day in Hello Kitty Island Adventure
In any Animal Crossing-esque game, it important to have a variety of things to do and when to do them. Hello Kitty Island Adventure accomplishes just that. Throughout your time on Big Adventure Park, players will notice that the game has an in-game day/night cycle. This not only enhances the environment and experience around you, it open up more possibilities for new adventures. However, there might be certain things you’ll need to start or collect that can only be found during certain times of the day. So let’s take a nap and figure out how to change time of day in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
Implementing a similar system to games like Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, changing the time of day isn’t something the game tells you how to do. It’s very simple, and only requires a bit of furniture. To change the time of day in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, players need to rest in a bed . Beds are furniture in the game that you can acquire in a multitude of ways. The gift shop sells them, and some characters might gift you a bed the more you develop your friendship with them.

Unfortunately, beds aren’t something that you can place or find anywhere. There’s building scattered around the island called Visitor Cabins , where players can place a bed and rest. If there is already a visitor in the cabin, you might not need to buy/craft a new bed at all. You can simply kick the visitor out of their house and commandeer their bed for your needs. When you rest in a bed, you’ll have the choice of waking up in the morning, evening, or nighttime. A useful feature if you’re looking to catch some sneaky critters who only come out in the dead of night.

Hello Kitty just expanded her business empire with a new video game. " Hello Kitty Island Adventure " launched exclusively on Apple Arcade on July 28, and gamers are anticipating its first major update by late August.
The objective of the open-world adventure game, which quickly debuted at No. 1 on Apple Arcade, is to work with beloved Sanrio characters to restore an abandoned amusement park on a tropical island – with a little fun along the way. The game is available in both single player and multiplayer formats and offers 50 hours of gameplay at launch.

"We had for years wanted to create a massive open world life sim," Sunblink Founder Julian Farrior said at a launch party at the Hello Kitty Grand Cafe in Irvine. "We met with Sanrio. Sanrio was floored by the idea, and it's really been a match made in heaven."
In the game, players can develop their own Sanrio-style avatar so they can fit into Hello Kitty's "super charming world." Like Hello Kitty says, "you can never have too many friends."
The core of the game revolves around building up your friendship with each of the 13 characters, including Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, Keroppi and others. When you 'level up' your friendship, you can unlock new stories, cosmetics, cooking upgrades, crafting recipes, companion abilities and improved companion boosts.

The game opens on a character-filled plane as everyone heads to Friendship Island. On the flight, you'll encounter your first quest called "Happy Landings" where Hello Kitty causes a fiasco dubbed "cakes on a plane," which forces all the passengers to parachute to safety using balloons.
While on the island, you're expected to figure out what each character's favorite gifts are. Two ways to make those gifts are cooking and crafting. You can make a delicious treat for your friend (Mama's apple pie, anyone?) or get crafty by combining different materials into trinkets or souvenirs for your Sanrio friends.
And there's plenty of interior and exterior space to explore on Friendship Island. You can decorate a cabin in the game, and even adopt a pet critter (look around the nature preserve). You can visit Kuromi's haunted mansion, dive underwater or go into a puzzle room for a change of pace.
Fan favorite Gudetama is also hidden throughout the island. You can take your time finding the lazy egg, though. Once you've found Gudetama, take a selfie in exchange for a cute outfit.
"Its [Hello Kitty Island Adventure] vibe is similar to Animal Crossing with more focus on questing and exploration," one Reddit user wrote.
The first major update for "Hello Kitty Island Adventure" is planned for late August, according to Sunblink Chief Product Officer Chelsea Howe. She teased that Little Twin Stars and their beautiful home of Cloud Island will be added to the mix, as well as new outfits, new furniture, and new food to make.
The Sanrio world is so rich and so full of characters and we hope that there will be plenty of room for people to kind of find their home here. Chelsea Howe - Chief Product Officer, Sunblink
"We hope that people can continue to enjoy this longterm for months and even years," she said. "The Sanrio world is so rich and so full of characters and we hope that there will be plenty of room for people to kind of find their home here."
That home has extended beyond the game, too.
Sunblink hosts a Discord server for chatter and resolution of issues around the game. More than 19,000 members can read about future updates and game fixes on the platform, or discuss amongst themselves guides related to various aspects of the game such as all the food recipes and a rewards masterlist.
Are you ready to start a "ridiculously cute Hello Kitty adventure?" Apple Arcade is free with a 1-month trial, and costs $4.99 a month for unlimited access to its game selection.

After seeing Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie and playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure last weekend, I have to wonder: Is it cool to be a girl again? But actually. We’ve gotten glittering pop tracks featuring Power Puff Girl-inspired visuals from NewJeans and Gerwig’s movie has been released to theaters to seemingly universal fanfare and pink. Now, fans of mobile games get a little cherry on top: a social sim featuring Sanrio’s cast of characters. The summer of 2023 has been a great season for media aimed at women and girls.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure – not to be confused with the fictional game from South Park – is a social sim from developer Sunblink ( Heroish ). One part A Short Hike and another part Animal Crossing: New Horizons , Island Adventure focuses on the usual sim-game attractions of collecting items, crafting, and baking, but also goes hard on exploration by allowing me to climb and glide anywhere. It’s being published by Apple Arcade, where it will remain locked behind Apple’s subscription for the time being. While it’s compatible with a controller, I reviewed the game on a fifth-generation iPad Air and stuck to the regular touch controls.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure kicks off with a fever dream in which a veritable who’s who of Sanrio characters jump out of an airplane mid-flight after an onboard cake-baking catastrophe. I, and others like Hello Kitty, Kuromi, Badtz-maru, and Keroppi, all leap from the emergency exit, and soon the sky above the island is peppered with big-eyed puppies, bunnies, and more floating down as they hold onto bundles of party balloons. We land, and the real challenge begins: It’s up to me — an unnamed cutesy cat character I designed myself — to find everyone scattered across the island.
From here on out, Sunblink tries to do a lot: I can fish; I can cook; I can solve block puzzles in micro dungeons; I can restore cabins and decorate them with themed furniture sets for visitors, a la Animal Crossing: Happy Home Paradise ; all the while, I’m collecting items with which to bolster my relationships with the rest of the cast. Despite the sheer variety of different activities, however, exploration forms the backbone of the game. The island feels sprawling and filled to the brim with simple timer challenges, items to forage, and critters to catch. It’s not overwhelmingly big, but it contains a variety of regions, including a spooky swamp and a blistering volcanic expanse.
Although Sunblink mostly leaves me free to roam from the start, there are certain parameters that direct where I can go. To unlock certain items or quests that open up other areas, for instance, I need to level up certain relationships. To do this, I need to give characters gifts tailored to their personality. Characters communicate the preferences of others through dialogue, but Sunblink’s UI also comes in handy, displaying varying numbers of hearts to show how much each character will appreciate disparate gifts. Whereas a character like Hello Kitty will prefer a cake, Kuromi prefers Jack-o’-lanterns.
Apart from the exploration required to find new characters, it’s the fostering and maintenance of friendships that steers me throughout my time on the island. I can only give each character three gifts per real-time day, and key crafting resources are similarly restricted since they respawn daily in limited quantities. I found myself zooming through the early game where discrete quest scenarios helped me level up friendships, but I hit lulls after unlocking the first region where I found myself grinding for gifts that my unlocked cast would love.
By wholeheartedly leaning into the “adventure” in Island Adventure , Sunblink’s new title represents a very ambitious and earnest attempt to expand — even evolve — the sim games that have captivated so many of us since Animal Crossing: New Horizons by combining their conceits with the sweeping exploration of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. (During a recent preview, a developer told me that their intention was to combine Breath of the Wild with a sim game).
Because it reaches for so much, Island Adventure doesn’t always live up to its own ambitions. Dungeon-like areas, like a haunted mansion I explored with Kuromi, employ simple and tedious puzzles using trapdoors and levers. While there is a surprising amount to explore, spending enough time in each region will eventually make the locales feel familiar rather than expansive. What’s more, Island Adventure has some rough edges: During climbing sequences, the game simply fades to black and resets the climb if you get stuck. And perhaps this was just because I was playing on a larger screen, but I did wish I could zoom the fixed, oblique camera angle out ever so slightly.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure isn’t the be-all and end-all for a franchise aimed at girls, nor is it the crowning achievement in the sim game genre. It’s something smaller and sweeter. It’s another flashpoint in a summer that has already felt like a celebration of all things girly. Sure, Sanrio isn’t just for the girls, but that’s sort of the point. This game, along with Barbie , is here to say “Hey — all this girly stuff? Well, it’s cool as hell.”
