GHOST The Musical is a musical with book and lyrics by Bruce Joel Rubin and music and lyrics by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard .

Based on the hit 1990 romantic fantasy thriller film of the same name, the musical had its world premiere at the Manchester Opera House in Manchester in March 2011.

The plot centres on lovers Sam and Molly, who are attacked as they are returning to their apartment. When Sam dies he becomes caught between the real world and the next. Molly is in danger and Sam cannot leave her. A medium, Oda Mae Brown, helps Sam to get in touch with Molly to warn her.

GHOST The Musical has had 30 professional productions in 22 countries in 14 languages.

It was nominated for 5 Laurence Olivier Awards including Best Musical and 3 Tony Awards. It won Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Set Design and Outer Critics Award for Best Lighting.

Time Out called it "A new West End hit has landed".

The Daily Telegraph said "highly entertaining one that looks set to keep audiences laughing, gasping and sniffing back tears for a long time to come."

Bill Kenwright Ltd announces the triumphant return to the stage of the worldwide sensation Ghost the Musical , opening on 22 August 2024 before embarking on a major national tour across the UK.

Written by multi Brit Award winner Dave Stewart and Grammy award winning Glen Ballard, with a script by Bruce Joel Rubin based on his OSCAR winning screenplay, Ghost the Musical brings all the romance and magic of the classic story to life on stage.

Ghost has cemented its place as one of the most significant successes in cinematic history. Starring the late Patrick Swayze alongside Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg (who won the Oscar for Supporting Actress), the film dominated the box office in 1990 and earned an Oscar for screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin, who has skillfully adapted his screenplay into a musical. Premiering in Manchester in 2011, Ghost the Musical has played sell out seasons in the West End and on Broadway as well as numerous international tours.

Review: Ghost the Musical (UK Tour)

It’s been a few years since Ghost The Musical  was last seen in the UK but now it is back from the dead haunting theatres up and down the country as it kicks off a brand new tour. Amazingly, its previous incarnations had always passed me by (I will always regret missing the original West End run) so I jumped at the chance to visit the classic love story for the first time, on the first night of the new tour no less. Having grown up loving the movie the musical is based on, would this production be what I’ve hungered for?

Based on the Oscar-winning movie from 1990, the musical adaptation of Ghost  premiered in 2011 where it enjoyed a West End run and a move to Broadway the following year. Several UK tours have followed since but this marks its first return since theatres re-opened post lockdowns. The show tells the story of couple Molly and Sam whose lives are changed forever (literally) when Sam is murdered. Trapped between this world and the next, Sam tries to communicate with Molly in a desperate attempt to save her when he realises she’s in danger, girl.

Bruce Joel Rubin’s book beautifully translates the classic story from screen to stage, retaining the key elements of the story we all know and love while tweaking others and modernising the setting. A beautiful and tragic story that has captured the hearts of people all over the world for decades, I knew what was coming and still teared up at the end. His attempts to flesh out the characters have varying success with some suffering from feeling too underwritten and fairly one note – while the focus has rightly been made on the three main characters in the story, there is a sense that a richness may have been lost by not giving more elsewhere, such as the underwritten character of Carl, for example.

When you think of Ghost , the song ‘Unchained Melody’ comes to mind with THAT iconic scene from the movie. As they can’t sing the same song on a loop for 2 hours (though it does get a few outings here), Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard have been enlisted to create original music and lyrics alongside writer Bruce Joel Rubin. The result is a bit of a mixed bunch with a handful of incredible numbers joined by some that are far less memorable. Musical highlights include Oda Mae’s big musical moment ‘I’m Outta Here’ and the transcending ‘With You’ (more on that standout moment soon). Not every moment is as successful, however, with annoying early number ‘More’ ironically leaving me longing for less.

I should state that this was the first night of the tour and I’m sure certain elements will be tightened up as the tour progresses, however it would be dishonest of me to not point of some of the weaker elements I felt were in this production. Dogged with sound problems on the night, I also felt the show was under-directed with not much consideration for the ensemble cast who seemed to find themselves standing around with not much to do. While the focus on the main characters is wear Ghost shines, it left moments on stage feeling awkward. Not every characterisation on stage worked either, with the feeling that it still needed refining more as came across somewhat under-rehearsed in places. I would be keen to return to the show later in the tour to see improvements in these areas.

Certain production elements here let the show down with both the direction and choreography failing to light up the stage or, in some cases, even fill it. I wondered if less might be more in some cases as it was the intimate moments that proved the most captivating, making the bigger and louder sequences jarring and leaving me frustrated at the inconsistences throughout. While a high-tech stage is not always possible for a touring production, I did feel like the set design also let the production down with wobbly sets and subpar effects losing the impact key moments should have had.

The strongest aspect in this production of Ghost  is undoubtedly its stunning cast, led by Rebekah Lowings as Molly Jenson and Josh St. Clair as Sam Wheat. As the tragic Sam, St. Clair delivers a hauntingly good performance as he fantastically embodies the spirit of the character who is not only trying to accept his fate but spare his love from meeting a similar one. Consistently captivating whenever he was present, his stage presence was truly felt – while other characters may not have been able to see him, it was hard for the audience to take their eyes off of him. With incredible vocals and a gorgeously emotive portrayal, he delivered a great portrayal of a character who has big shoes to fill.

Having played the role before, Rebekah Lowings was truly sensational as Molly in a performance that felt authentic and never over-the-top. Shining every moment she was on stage, it was her performance of the show’s biggest original number ‘With You’ that provided the standout moment of the night. Her other-worldly rendition of the beautifully emotive and heart-wrenching number was full of spine-tingling vocals, showcasing he incredible range and leaving me feeling like I had died and gone to heaven.

Also returning to the show is Jacqui Dubois in the standout role of Oda Mae Brown. In her big portrayal of a big character, Dubois creates much needed humour among the darkness of the story, stealing the scenes whenever she gets the chance in a brilliantly overblown portrayal. TV legend Les Dennis gets two small but memorable roles as the hospital ghost and Lionel Ferguson, while James Mateo-Salt delivers some stunning vocals in his time as Carl and showcases his talents, though the characterisation may not have always been where it should have been, dangerously running the risk of turning into panto villain territory.

Ghost The Musical is a refreshing take on a classic. While this production is far from perfect and definitely needs a bit more tightening up, it has a lot going for it – mainly in its remarkable cast. Anyone who loved the movie or the musical in its previous runs should be prepared to fall in love all over again. With stunning performances that will haunt me for days to come, what this show may lack in production value, it more than makes up for in spirit.

While the production has its flaws, such as inconsistent direction and underwhelming set design, Gale highlights the strength of the cast, particularly praising Rebekah Lowings and Josh St. Clair for their captivating neal fun performances. Despite some issues, the review suggests that fans of the original movie and previous musical runs will still find much to appreciate in this heartfelt and spirited adaptation.

Each country has its own characteristics, Undertale Yellow dishes, symbols that are not confused. Pumpkin is not popular in our country but it is a symbol in your country. It is very unique.

From the Producer of  Back to the Future the Musical  and based on  Bruce Joel Rubin’s  (book & lyrics) 1990 Oscar-winning hit film starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore,  Ghost In Concert  will feature and focus on the music from the original Olivier and Tony nominated show, written by six-time Grammy Award Winning  Glen Ballard  & multi Grammy Award Winning Eurythmics’  Dave Stewart , alongside of the iconic Unchained Melody .

Lovers Sam and Molly find themselves in danger walking back to their apartment one night, leaving Sam tragically murdered and trapped between this world and the next. Unable to leave Molly and worried about the ongoing peril she now faces, Sam attempts to communicate with her through the help of dubious psychic Oda Mae Brown.

Lucie Jones  ( Wicked, Les Misérables, Waitress, Ghost International Tour, Eurovision Song Contest ) will play Molly Jensen and  Oliver Tompsett  ( & Juliet, Wicked, Kinky Boots, Rock of Ages, We Will Rock You) will play Sam Wheat.

Also joining the cast is original Broadway cast member Moya Angela ( America’s Got Talent, The Lion King and Dreamgirls) as Oda Mae Brown, David Seadon-Young ( Ghost the Musical National/Australian Tour) as Carl Bruner, Sam Mackay ( In the Heights, Mamma Mia! ) as Willie Lopez and original West End cast members Lisa Davina Phillip ( The Lion King, Matilda the Musical) and Jenny Fitzpatrick ( Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, Rock of Ages UK Tour), who will reprise their roles as Clara and Louise. Completing the cast will be Gabriela García as Mrs Santiago/Featured Ensemble, Kimmy Edwards as Ortisha/Ensemble, C.J. Borger as Orlando/Ensemble, and Ensemble members Michael Cortez and Stevie Hutchinson .

Ghost In Concert will be directed by  Paul Warwick Griffin  with musical supervision by  Laurie Perkins .

Ghost the Musical is returning to stages across the UK with a new tour!

The stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning movie will begin performances later in 2024.

First dates have been confirmed, starting at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre in August. The tour will then visit Sunderland, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Darlington, Cheltenham, Leicester, Torquay, Coventry, Bradford, Aberdeen, Stoke, Bath and Blackpool this year.

Further dates through 2025 to be announced.

Swedish masked metal titans rise to take on their biggest UK tour to date in 2022

The demonic anti-pope Papa Emeritus returns to UK stages in 2022 as Ghost announce a massive European tour ahead of their upcoming fifth album.

Today, as clouds obscure the sun and bad omens abound, Ghost rise again with their biggest UK and European tour to date.

Throughout April 2022, the Grammy Award-winners will once more plume the black steeds as they take their dark extravaganza to arenas in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and London.

Back in 2018, the ‘A Pale Tour Named Death’ trek started its two-year run at the historic Royal Albert Hall in London; for this long-awaited return, branded ‘IMPERATOUR – EUROPE 2022’, Ghost once again commence proceedings in the UK before descending upon Europe’s most impressive venues. 

Support across all shows will be provided by Uncle Acid And The Dead Beats, and Twin Temple. 

Meanwhile, Ghost recently unveiled their first new track in two years, ‘Hunter’s Moon’, which featured in 2021's horror film,  Halloween Kills . Revel in the phantasmagoric video directed by Amanda Demme.

Coventry, with its rich history and haunted legends, is an ideal location for a spooky haunted tour. Here's our itinerary for a one-day haunted tour of Coventry:

9 .45 AM meet your guide

10:00 AM - St Michael's Ruins, Coventry Cathedral:

- Start your day visiting the ruins of Coventry Cathedral, a stunning building that was bombed during World War II. Some claim to have seen ghostly figures in and around the ruins. Hear tales of time gone by! Visit the new cathedral and the ruins.

11:00 AM - St. Mary's Guildhall:

- Head to St. Mary's Guildhall, one of Coventry's oldest buildings, known for its paranormal activity. Take a tour and learn about the ghosts that are said to haunt this historic site.

12:30 PM - Lunch:

- Enjoy lunch at Haunted Pub:

- Have lunch at a haunted pub in Coventry with a spooky atmosphere to complement your haunted tour experience.

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Haunted Coventry Walking Tour:

- Join a guided haunted walking tour of Coventry. Our knowledgeable guides will lead you to various haunted spots around the city, sharing spine-tingling stories and legends along the way. Some notable stops may include:

- St. Mary's Cathedral Ruins

- The Herbert Art Gallery - visit the museum

- Lady Godiva's Statue: Hear the legends and stories associated with this iconic statue.

- The Murder House

5.30 PM - Return to Accommodation/Home:

- After your ghostly adventures, return to your accommodation for a well-deserved night's rest. If you would like help sourcing accommodation, please ask.

Cameron Mackintosh’s new production of Lionel Bart’s iconic musical, Oliver! , which he has fully reconceived with director and choreographer Matthew Bourne , will open in London at the Gielgud Theatre on Saturday 14 December 2024.

With a sensational score, including Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, You’ve Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two, I’d Do Anything, Oom Pah Pah, As Long As He Needs Me and many more, the Olivier, Tony and Oscar-winning masterpiece vividly brings to life Dickens’ ever-popular story of the boy who asked for more.

The cast includes Simon Lipkin ( Guys and Dolls, Avenue Q ) as Fagin, Shanay Holmes ( Miss Saigon, The Bodyguard ) as Nancy, Aaron Sidwell ( Henry VI, Wicked ) as Bill Sikes, Billy Jenkins ( Les Misérables, BBC’s Dodger ) as the Artful Dodger and Philip Franks ( The Rocky Horror Show, Witness for the Prosecution ) as Mr Brownlow.

Age recommendation: Everyone, regardless of age, must have their own ticket to enter the theatre. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by and sat next to a ticketholder who is at least 18 years old. Children under the age of 3 will not be admitted.

Show Warnings: True to Dickens’ novel, the script contains some mild and discriminatory language reflective of the period; depictions of violence towards men, women and children including gunshots; and themes of poverty, hunger and crime in Victorian society.
