Oi Oi OI! It's the cockney rejects!
Pioneers of the Oi music genre, and therefore massively influential in the breakthrough of the punk scene. Formed in 1978, in 1980 this band hit the charts with an almighty slap. They shook the streets of London and became widely recognised punk stars. They've charted 10 rowdy ruffian albums and still today they are touring with their immensely successful live performances. They are brutal in their lyrics, aggressively chanting at the audience, boisterously parading the stage and transporting the crowd back in time to the working class 80's.
Nothing beats a classic rock and roll gig. But specifically punk, the Cockney Rejects put on a ruthlessly savage attack as a show. Of course their gigs wouldn't go down the same without their biggest hit thrown at you. Cockney Rejects are widely established due to their dedication and homage to their favourite football team West Ham United. The band wrote a number one hit called 'I'm forever blowing bubbles,' and devoted it to their football team. Now the song is amplified out before the start of every home fixture held at Upton Park, West Ham's home stadium, and is sang with such passion from the home crowd that it strikes fear into opposing fans and teams and it's all thanks to the Cocnkey Rejects. The band are full of punk history and are still one of the best punk bands to see live today.

First ever New Zealand tour! (Rescheduled with new dates).
Rarely in the long history of British rock’n’roll has there been a story of such depth, magnitude and sheer turbulence as that of the Cockney Rejects. Formed in late Seventies East End London by brothers Jeff and Micky Geggus, their 1980 song “Oi, Oi, Oi” was the anthem of a generation and the inspiration for what would become the Oi! / Street Punk Music genre.
In over 35 years of existence the Cockney Rejects have penned numerous classic songs such as “The Greatest Cockney Ripoff”, “I’m Not a Fool”, “Bad Man”, “War on the Terraces”, “Police Car” that have helped define and shape the Street Punk genre.
The Rejects have headlined countless shows and festivals, and in 2012 they were the subject of a feature length documentary, ‘East End Babylon’. So it could be said they've done it all, well almost all that is except they have never played on New Zealand shores.
This February sees this all about to change with a full length tour of New Zealand announced in what promises to one of the most anticipated tours of its kind to hit down under in years.

‘Oi Oi’ it’s farewell tour time for the Cockney Rejects
Cockney Rejects live at the Con Club, Lewes 16.12.18 (pic Alan Poole) (click on pic to enlarge!)
The band were formed in the late Seventies in East London as an answer to the art school punk that had dominated the scene up until then.
Fiercely working class in stance and attitude, the band eschewed the political ramblings of punk’s first wave and sang about the circumstances that surrounded them and millions of street kids in Britain’s inner cities- Police harassment, street battles and football to name three.
Signed by EMI after playing four local gigs (less than the pistols!) they found themselves playing sell out tours the length and breadth of the UK and seeing their debut album storm the charts.
Top Of The Pops appearances followed, which became the stuff of legend as the band generally ran amok in the hallowed White City Studios, finally getting banned from the show for their boisterous behavior.
With the band’s first phase being over, in the interim they were discovered by a brand new fan base such as US bands Rancid and Green Day, who cherished the Rejects and their terrace punk singalong anthems which, in turn, inspired a new generation of kids to check them out.
Due to overwhelming demand, the band returned to the live circuit in 2000, and have since gone from strength to strength, playing to hundreds of thousands of people across the globe with a live set that is so energetic that it has to be seen to be believed.
With the fractionalization of the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s now gone for good, with every gig becoming a party for fans and band alike, the Cockney Rejects have gone from strength to strength. But now they have sadly announced a farewell tour!
“After much thought and consideration dear pals, we have decided that 2023 will be our last year as a touring band. Don’t worry though- For the next 20 months we will be giving it everything at venues all across the U.K and the world, culminating in a special event in London in Dec 2023. We will still be around on the festival circuit, but as of the end of next year our touring days are over. Hoping that you can all come out to support us in the next 20 months, you have all made the last 43 years the best days of our lives. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts”.
They will be playing live in Brighton (courtesy of Black Rabbit Productions ) at Patterns on Friday 10th March 2023 with support coming from Skurvi .
