Taking a Blue Lagoon Tour from Split is one of the best things I did while travelling in Croatia and I would recommend it to absolutely everyone.

But I know how hard it can be picking the good tours from the bad, especially when there are so many to choose from.

Spending time in the Blue Lagoon is an incredible experience and it’s an experience where you want to have the best time possible – not with an average tour that ruins your day.

So I’ve created this article outlining the best tour options that you need to take to top off your Croatian adventure. As a full-time traveller and Croatia lover, I know what makes a good tour and what doesn’t.

Best Blue Lagoon Tours Split

The Blue Lagoon is one of the most popular spots to visit in all of Croatia. It attracts tourists from all over the world and it’s clear to see why. The area is remarkably beautiful! That’s why making sure you take the best possible tour is important. So here we go…

1. Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck & Šolta cruise with lunch & unlimited drinks from Split

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (2700+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 8 hours | 🌊 BOOK NOW

My favourite Blue Lagoon Tour from Split is also the highest-rated and most-reviewed one, which is the Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck & Šolta cruise with lunch & unlimited drinks from Split tour. With over 2700 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reviews, it’s definitely passed the tests of time.

Review which says "The tour was very well organized and went over my expectations. Marko is a great leader and made us all feel welcome and safe. I've been on similar tours before and the food is usually lame, but the burgers served with fries were just perfect. The wine is free as of lunch time, so you can imagine the taste."

When booking a tour, I like to go with the “tried and tested” option and I’m sure you’re no different. Who wants to book a tour with no reviews, right?

With over 2700 positive reviews , this tour is more than got its seal of approval. If it’s good enough for nearly 3000 people, it’s definitely a good tour. And it was more than good enough for me. And the 1500 people who took it and reviewed it in the summer of 2023.

In fact, it’s the best tour. The reviews exclusively mention how incredible the team are on this tour- with lots of compliments about how welcoming and friendly the staff are. And I can personally vouch for this- they were very friendly, and they felt like part of the group rather than a group leader, which is a trait I always like from guides.

Visiting the Blue Lagoon is a moment to be cherished, and there’s no better way to do so than by taking this tour. One thing I also really liked about the tour was the food- the food is great. Which for a tour offering free food, is pretty rare. This is a gold mine of a tour.

On top of exploring the Blue Lagoon, you also get to visit the infamous Croatian shipwreck which in my opinion, is one of the best spots for snorkelling in the whole world. I’ve snorkelled in lots of countries, across multiple continents, and it’s one of my favourite snorkels ever. It’s so unique. And you get to visit Šolta too which is another stunning spot.

The tour lasts for 8 hours allowing for plenty of time to admire each stop. You don’t want to rush a tour like this, you want to appreciate the natural beauty which the Blue Lagoon and co. have to offer. But don’t worry, it doesn’t feel like a long day. As the saying goes, “Time flies when you’re having fun”.

If nothing else about this tour stands out to you, the unlimited drinks have to be a selling point. I don’t drink personally, but there were lots of people taking advantage of this offer!

Imagine yourself soaking in the warm Croatian sun, sailing past picturesque islands through crystal clear water, with an ice-cold drink in your hand. What more can you ask for?

Looking for the best possible Blue Lagoon tour from Split? Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck & Šolta cruise with lunch & unlimited drinks from Split is the tour for you.

2. Blue Lagoon & 3 Islands Half-day Trip from Split

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (1600+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 5.5 hours | 🌊 BOOK NOW

Another highly-rated tour which I recommend is the Blue Lagoon & 3 Islands Half-day Trip from Split which has over 1600 5-star ratings. It’s impressive how there are so many positive reviews for these Blue Lagoon Split Tours- this tour is really popular at the moment, it gained over 700 reviews in Summer 2023.

Review which says "Amazing experience hosts were amazing. Plenty of time to enjoy the views of the different islands as well as plenty of opportunities to take some amazing pictures."

If you don’t want to spend a full day on a boat, this could be the tour for you. Spending only 5 and a half hours (compared to 8 on the previous tour) at sea, you get to visit the Blue Lagoon and other gems in the area. My girlfriend gets seasick so this was a tour that she much preferred to the first one.

But as the review says, time isn’t tight , there is plenty of time to enjoy the views and experience all of the beauty.

When taking a tour, no matter what tour or where in the world, the last thing I want is to feel rushed. It’s the most frustrating thing ever when you’re enjoying somewhere and the guide says it’s time to go. So it’s great that there is a slightly shorter tour but still allocates enough time for stops.

This tour doesn’t include food, but it does have a stop at a beach bar where you can buy your own food and drinks. The beach bars in Croatia are second to none, and you really feel like you are in paradise. Eating food on a golden sand beach with gorgeous blue water in the sun is hard to beat.

If you are interested in visiting Trogir , a town which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site then you’ll want to book this tour as it includes a stop there. Trogir is a town straight out of a fairy tale, it’s so pretty. It’s definitely one of my favourite Croatian islands I’ve explored.

Want to visit the Blue Lagoon without spending a full day at sea? Blue Lagoon & 3 Islands Half-day Trip from Split is the tour for you. Get it booked before it sells out, it’s a very popular tour.

3. Split Half Day Tour to Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck & Trogir Island

⭐ RATING: 4.5 out of 5 Stars (470+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 5.5 hours | 🌊 BOOK NOW

Another incredible Blue Lagoon Tour from Split is the Split Half Day Tour to Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck & Trogir Island tour which is a more personal tour as there is a max group size of 15.

Review which says "This was a wonderful tour! The area around split is superb and seeing the natural beauty from the sea is even better. The three destinations are well chosen, one hour stay at Duga and Blue Lagoon and 1 1/2 hours in Trogir are exactly right. The skipper team was excellent. Highly recommended!"

By having a smaller tour group, it allows you to get a more personal experience . You can ask the tour guides as many questions as you please, and get to know the captain and crew. I really like it when guides are willing to have fun and enjoy the tour themself, rather than being grumpy because they are working.

This tour also includes free snorkelling equipment completely free of charge, whereas most other tours require a rental fee and/or a deposit. Of course, if it’s a deposit, you get it back after you return the equipment. But you won’t need to worry about it on this tour as it’s free.

If you really enjoy snorkelling and swimming this is the perfect tour for you. Not only does it provide free equipment, but the tour has a priority on giving you as much time as possible in the water and exploring the Blue Lagoon and the other stops. As I said earlier, I love snorkelling and this tour takes you to my favourite spot, the Blue Lagoon.

You don’t want to spend a tour like this mostly on the boat, so it was good to see a focus is on swimming. I took swimming lessons as a kid so you can never get me out of the water!

With stops at the Blue Lagoon, of course, along with the cove of Duga and Labaduza beach, you get to see some of the most naturally beautiful sights in Croatia. Croatia’s natural beauty is truly second to none. There’s also a stop at Trogir, which as said before, is extremely charming.

For a more personal tour which focuses on giving you as much time as possible in the water, book Split Half Day Tour to Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck & Trogir Island before it sells out.

4. Split: Blue Lagoon and 3 Islands Speedboat Tour

A picture of an island which you visit during the Blue Lagoon Split Tour.

⭐ RATING: 4.7 out of 5 Stars (1100+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 5 hours | 🌊 BOOK NOW

For a thrilling experience, take the Split: Blue Lagoon and 3 Islands Speedboat Tour which follows the route of most tours, but on a speedboat!

Review which says "Best thing we did in Croatia! Absolutely loved it. Our guides who were very helpful, friendly and fun! Thank you for making our experience a memorable one! "

This is one of the fastest-growing Blue Lagoon tours from Split, it gained 1000 additional reviews from when I last edited this post (I’m editing this in January 2024 and my last edit was just before the summer!).

Taking the tour on the speedboat adds an extra element, an extra bit of excitement. Personally, I think speedboats are fun. And I also think Split boat tours are fun. Combine the two and you have the tour of a lifetime.

As the review says above, it’s the best thing you will do in Croatia.

Just picture yourself speeding along the Adriatic Sea, with panoramic views worthy of a postcard. In this part of the world, every direction you look is unbelievable. It’s hard to find words to describe the beauty of the Blue Lagoon and the area surrounding it- and I’m a travel blogger so if anyone is going to have words, it should be me!

The tour stops for between 40 minutes and an hour at each location, leaving you plenty of time to explore the underwater world with your snorkel and mask. As I said, I hate tours which are rushed so I was really glad this one isn’t.

If you’re seeking a bit of thrill while seeing the Blue Lagoon, get the Split: Blue Lagoon and 3 Islands Speedboat Tour booked ASAP and enjoy the adventure.

5. Three Island Tour from Split (Shipwreck, Blue Lagoon, Maslinica) LUNCH INCLUDED

A picture of a boat sailing past a Croatian island.

⭐ RATING: 4.5 out of 5 Stars (680+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 8.5 hours | 🌊 BOOK NOW

Yet another tried and tested option, with over 600 reviews is the Three Island Tour from Split (Shipwreck, Blue Lagoon, Maslinica) LUNCH INCLUDED which also has the Viator Badge of Excellence.

blue lagoon tour from split

The Badge of Excellence is awarded to tours which are “highly rated by travellers and have met our top quality standards.” In other words, you know you are in for a good tour when booking it and I can attest to that! Any tour I’ve taken with a badge of excellence has been great, this one included.

This tour offers a full-day experience , coming in at around 8 and a half hours. It’s a long day, but it’s more than worth it.

You get to experience the Blue Lagoon which is presumably on your bucket list if you found this post. So the tour is already in for a winner.

But you also get to visit a lot more sites than most tours . You get to visit the Nečujam Bay which is only 3 metres underwater, making it the perfect snorkelling destination. Most tours in this article also visit the shipwreck.

What makes this tour unique is the number of other stops. You also stop at Solta Island, Maslinica, Ciovo Island, and a number of other uninhabited islands.

For a more in-depth tour of the area and more time at the stops, make sure to Book the Three Island Tour from Split (Shipwreck, Blue Lagoon, Maslinica) LUNCH INCLUDED .

6. Blue Lagoon and Trogir Half-Day Speedboat Tour from Split

A picture of Trogir.

⭐ RATING: 4.5 out of 5 Stars (340+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 4.5 hours | 🌊 BOOK NOW

For a tour that is a lot simpler and gives you the maximum time in the Blue Lagoon, check out the Blue Lagoon and Trogir Half-Day Speedboat Tour from Split .

Review which says "Amazing tour! We loved this trip, there is enough time for everything, it is very chill, tour guides are cool and is a friendly and calm environment. Recommend it 100%"

The tour is a little shorter than most, at only 4 and a half hours. But there are only two stops. 1. Blue Lagoon. 2. Trogir.

This means you have a load of time to spend at each location. You get about 90 minutes at the Blue Lagoon and the same in Trogir.

Getting to spend so long in the Blue Lagoon is rare and it’s an opportunity not to be slept on.

90 minutes allows you to completely fall in love with the lagoon , and trust me, you will. If you are in love with the pictures, you will be head over heels in real life.

Having so long to explore Trogir is also pretty cool. As mentioned before, it’s really charming and the Old Town, in particular, is more than worth a visit.

So if you want a tour that really focuses heavily on the Blue Lagoon, the Blue Lagoon and Trogir Half-Day Speedboat Tour from Split is the tour for you.

By the way, if you are interested in taking a Blue Lagoon tour, you might also be interested in taking a Blue Cave tour from Hvar . It’s the small island off Split and the tour to the cave is incredible.

7. From Split: Trogir and Blue Lagoon Half-Day Tour

A picture of an island visited during this Blue Lagoon Tour Split.

⭐ RATING: 4.4 out of 5 Stars (430+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 5.5 hours | 🌊 BOOK NOW

The Blue Lagoon is one of the most photographable spots in Croatia, up there with Krka National Park or the streets of Dubrovnik. So you’ll want a tour that allows for great photos. From Split: Trogir and Blue Lagoon Half-Day Tour pay particular attention to this.

Review which says "Our boat driver had a fantastic personality and was really helpful. The trip itself was one of the highlights of our trip. We enjoyed our time in Trogir, the blue lagoon and would recommend to others!"

They list a camera as an essential item to bring, so they know how well the tour comes out in photographs. Taking a Blue Lagoon Tour from Split will leave your Instagram followers completely jealous, as the crystal clear waters and stunning islands are a sight to be sought.

What’s unique about this tour too is they acknowledge the potential to see dolphins in the wild. There are lots of places to see dolphins in Croatia , but imagine seeing them on a tour of the Blue Lagoon. It would be a completely unforgettable day.

You also want a driver who is sociable and gets along with the group and this tour offers exactly that. As the review says, they had a fantastic personality and helped make the tour a highlight of their trip.

And that’s what seeing the Blue Lagoon should be. A highlight of your trip.

This tour also allows you to choose between visiting Maslinica , a small fishing village, or having some cocktails and lunch at the Laganini Beach Club , which is one of Croatia’s most famous.

If you want an amazing Blue Lagoon tour with lots of opportunities to take photos, book the From Split: Trogir and Blue Lagoon Half-Day Tour .

8. Split: Half-Day Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck, and Trogir Boat Tour

A picture of a beach along the Blue Lagoon.

⭐ RATING: 4.4 out of 5 Stars (180+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 5 hours | 🌊 BOOK NOW

The 30-minute speedboat ride from Split to the Blue Lagoon is a thrilling one, and there’s no better way to do it than on the spacious and comfortable speedboat of the Split: Half-Day Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck, and Trogir Boat Tour .

blue lagoon tour from split

The Blue Lagoon is the highlight of any of these tours, of course, it’s as close to perfect as a lagoon can get. But this tour also visits the shipwreck, like most tours, and Trogir, like most tours, but it also visits the quaint little town of Solta-Maslinica.

It’s your typical Croatian town with white houses with orange rooftops, but it’s nowhere near as popular to visit as other similar towns, which gives Solta-Maslinica a unique sense of authenticity and exclusivity.

The tour is also “only” 5 hours so if you want to see the Blue Lagoon and other famous sights without having your whole day taken up, this is the tour for you. You can be done by the early afternoon.

But even if you don’t want to spend the whole day, be sure to bring your swimming gear as the opportunity to snorkel in the Blue Lagoon with the golden sand and crushed shells underfoot is an opportunity not to be missed.

So be sure to book Split: Half-Day Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck, and Trogir Boat Tour before it sells out as it’s one of GetYourGuide’s most popular tours from Split.

9. Split: Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck, & Šolta with Lunch & Drinks

A picture of a small boat in front of an island in Croatia.

⭐ RATING: 4.2 out of 5 Stars (500+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 8.5 hours | 🌊 BOOK NOW

For the tour of a lifetime, take the Split: Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck, & Šolta with Lunch & Drinks which includes stops at, well as the name suggests, the Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck and Šolta.

Review which says "Great tour! Start at the shipwreck for a swim, then off to Solta to explore the town or hang out at the beach bar, and then over to the blue lagoon for more swimming and fun!"

But what makes this tour unique is that it goes in a “back to front” order compared to all of the other tours on this list. It stops at the Shipwreck first, then Šolta, before ending at the Blue Lagoon. Of course, before heading back to Split.

Another unique selling point for this tour is the stand-up paddle boards you can borrow from the boat. It’s a really cool offer and it would only add to your Blue Lagoon experience. There are inflatables on offer too if you prefer that sort of thing.

You can also book sunbeds on the boat which again makes the experience all the more worthwhile. Imagine cruising through the beautiful islands off the coast of Croatia while lying back and taking in the sun. Wow!

The description of the tour says you can “soak in the Summer vibes” and that is exactly how I would describe a Blue Lagoon tour from Split. The vibes are immaculate, not just because of the boat, but because of the whole scenario.

The waves crash off the boat as you sail from island to island, admiring the breathtaking views in all directions with the smell of the sea and the wind on your face. It’s a sensory stimulation that just screams happiness.

If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, make sure to check out the Split: Blue Lagoon, Shipwreck, & Šolta with Lunch & Drinks and get it booked while you can.

10. Split: Blue Lagoon Pirate Boat Cruise with Lunch and Drinks

A picture of the pirate ship in the lagoon from this Blue Lagoon Tour Split.

⭐ RATING: 4 out of 5 Stars (120+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 9 hours | 🌊 BOOK NOW

For the most unique Blue Lagoon Tour Split offers, check out the Split: Blue Lagoon Pirate Boat Cruise with Lunch and Drinks , where, as the name suggests, you sail on a pirate ship!

Review which says "One word: amazing."

If you are travelling with children, this is the perfect tour for you. You get to experience the Blue Lagoon, the shipwreck and Šolta which unfortunately most kids won’t appreciate.

And the kids get to enjoy themselves being on a real-life pirate ship. I’m sure some adults would enjoy this too though, right?! Growing up, I loved pirates, so this would have been amazing for me!

But seeing the Blue Lagoon now is a bit better than Pirates, sorry to any Pirates fans out there. But as I said, if you’re travelling as a family- this is the tour for you.

It’s a slower-paced, more chilled-out and relaxing tour, lasting 9 hours and the use of the word “cruise” sums it up entirely. It’s not a tour, it’s a cruise.

And it would be hard to find a better cruise- and I took a sunset cruise in Dubrovnik which was phenomenal. As you sail through the Adriatic Sea picturing yourself as a pirate, you can enjoy the complimentary lunch and free glass of wine.

Which, if you are a parent, I’m sure would be welcomed greatly.

There’s also the opportunity to buy cocktails, beers, snacks and who could forget ice cream? Famously a pirate’s favourite thing to eat, right? Nonetheless, this pirate ship sells it.

If you have kids or are simply looking for a pirate adventure, book the Split: Blue Lagoon Pirate Boat Cruise with Lunch and Drinks today!

The guides are there to answer any questions you may have, while offering recommendations and an interesting commentary about the culture and history of the places you visit.

On this tour, you’ll be traveling by speed boat. This is not only a lot of fun, but makes sure you get to all of these places in a timely manner.

How To Visit The Blue Lagoon From Split, Croatia (+ Why You Should!)

Of all the bucket list destinations in Croatia, the Blue Lagoon is surely one of the most beautiful!

As I arrived at the Blue Lagoon on my tour from Split, I could hardly believe my eyes. The water was the clearest and bluest I had ever seen! With the summer sun beating down on us, the thought of taking a dip to cool off was unbelievably inviting.

Although there are numerous ‘blue lagoons’ in Croatia, the Blue Lagoon everybody knows is actually called Krknjasi Bay, and it’s between the Dalmatian islands of Veliki and Krknjasi.

Going for a swim or a snorkel at the Blue Lagoon is a must-do for any visitors to Croatia. The issue is, it can be tricky to work out how to even get there. Since the Blue Lagoon is a shallow patch of water in between two remote islands, it’s hardly as simple as catching the train!

Small boat on the clear waters of Krknjasi Bay, also known as the Blue Lagoon, one of the best places to snorkel in Croatia.

I loved my visit to the Blue Lagoon Croatia – in fact, I loved it that much that I went there twice! I firmly believe that a quick trip to the Blue Lagoon from Split is a must-do whilst you’re in Croatia.

So, here’s everything you need to know to plan a trip to the Blue Lagoon for yourself!

Top tip: Can I use Euros in Croatia ? Yep! As of 1 January 2023 the currency in Croatia is now the Euro. All prices in this post are listed in Euros.

Table of Contents

Where Is the Blue Lagoon in Croatia?

The Blue Lagoon is the name given to Krknjasi Bay , or the Krknjasi Lagoon, which lies off the east coast of the island Veli Drvenik. Its calm blue waters are sheltered by the neighbouring islands of Veliki and Krknjasi.

These islands are very remote, so if you want to visit the Blue Lagoon, the best place to stay in Croatia is the city of Split.

The Blue Lagoon is around 14 miles southwest of Split, which is a 30-minute journey by speedboat. If you’re heading to the Blue Lagoon from outside of Split, it’s six miles southwest of Trogir.

Pretty much every tour that takes you to the Blue Lagoon from Split also has an option for you to depart from Trogir, but it’s worth double checking to be sure!

How to Get to the Blue Lagoon From Split or Trogir

Unless you hire a boat and navigate the way there yourself (something I don’t recommend) travelling to the Blue Lagoon independently isn’t possible. For this reason, you’ll have to take a tour.

From Split, there are a few different boat tours which make stops at the Blue Lagoon. Two of these are the 3 islands tour and the 5 islands tour . The 3 islands tour is a half-day tour, and the 5-islands tour is a full-day tour.

I first went on this 5 islands tour , as it seemed like better value for money and you get to see more islands. This is the best Blue Lagoon tour. I loved the tour so much that I actually went on this 3 islands tour too so that I could continue my Croatian Island Hopping love affair!

This meant I visited the Blue Lagoon twice . Lucky me!

In case you’re undecided here is a comparison of the two tours:

After taking both tours, I highly recommend taking the 5 islands tour. It’s about a million times better. You can read my full review about it here!

Still fancy the 3 island tour? I got you – check out my review here!

The islands you visit on the 5 islands tour are much more interesting and varied. It also includes visiting Hvar , my favourite island!). In addition, the 5 islands tour includes a visit to the Blue Cave and Stiniva Beach , two of Croatia’s most popular tourist destinations.

As if you needed more persuading, the 5 islands tour is longer, meaning you spend more time on the open waves island hopping. Who wouldn’t want that?

Private Boat Trips to the Blue Lagoon

Don’t want to share your day with a bunch of strangers? I’ve got you. If you’re travelling in a group, with friends or family, it often works out cheaper to go on a private boat tour.

Private boat tours from Split to the Blue Lagoon typically follow the same itineraries as the group tours, but you’ll get more flexibility with timings and stops. Here are your options!

  • Private 5-Island Tour from Split (including Blue Cave, Blue Lagoon & Hvar)
  • Private 3-Island Tour from Split

Why You Need to Visit The Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon in Croatia, with the islands of islands of Veliki and Krknjasi in the background. The Blue Lagoon is just a short trip away from Split, making it a popular day trip.

The pictures kind of say it all.

You need to visit the Blue Lagoon because it’s just so darn gorgeous !

With water so clear it could be glass, and its gorgeous blue hue (it’s the blue lagoon for a reason), it’d be impossible to label the Blue Lagoon anything other than a paradise. You’ll feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of Split!

The main reason you should visit the Blue Lagoon is to swim and snorkel . The sandy ocean floor (unusual for Croatia!) and shallow crystal clear waters make this the perfect spot to snorkel and see what sea life you can find.

The Blue Lagoon is one of the most popular places to visit near Split . This means you’ll very rarely be the only visitors there. I didn’t find that affected my experience, though, as the Lagoon has plenty of space for visitors to spread out and the different boats don’t get too near to each other.

Some Blue Lagoon boat trips moor on the island, whereas others drop anchor further out so that it’s deep enough to jump into the lagoon from the boat.

Ella visiting the Blue Lagoon on a boat tour from the town of Split in Croatia.

My favourite thing to do at the Blue Lagoon was to jump off the back of our speedboat and plunge into the cold water. It’s something that never gets old!

Given how hot Croatia gets in the summer, the water was surprisingly cold when I jumped in. It was unbelievably refreshing, and the perfect way to cool off and relax.

You don’t need to pack anything special to visit the Blue Lagoon that I haven’t already mentioned in my Croatia packing list .

It’s super important to choose the right Blue Lagoon tour (something I’ll help with at the end of this post) as some tours are far better than others!

For example, the tour I went on had a sun lounging area on the back of our speedboat. This meant we could lounge and dry off under the sun on the back of the boat. It was a fun way to add a bit of luxury to the trip!

If your boat doesn’t have a sun lounging area, you can still swim to the island for a bit of sunbathing. The beaches are pebble beaches though, so it might be pretty uncomfortable.

There is a bar on the beach, though. If you want to toast your visit to the Blue Lagoon with a beer in the sun I definitely won’t blame you!

You’ll usually have between 1 hour and 90 minutes to spend at the Blue Lagoon on your tour. This is the perfect amount of time to do some swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling without feeling rushed.

The clear waters of the Blue Lagoon in Croatia.

Most tours to the Blue Lagoon include snorkel gear hire, so you won’t miss exploring its underwater world. There’s no doubt about it – the Blue Lagoon is one of the best places to snorkel in Croatia!

Best Time of Day to Visit Blue Lagoon

The best time of day to take a trip to the Blue Lagoon from Split (or Trogir!) is in the morning, before the heat gets too intense and before all the people who hired their own boat for the day get there too.

Many 5 Island and 3 Island tours depart early in the morning and make the Blue Lagoon one of their first stops for this very reason. On my 3 Islands tour I arrived at the Blue Lagoon at around 10am, and it was delightfully quiet.

On my 5 Islands tour, we arrived at the Blue Lagoon at around 1pm, and it was fairly busy by then, but luckily our boat captain managed to find a relatively peaceful area for us to stop off at.

Beautiful island and beach in Europe

If you’re travelling through Croatia or just on a trip to Split, you absolutely have to jump on a tour to get to the Blue Lagoon! It’s one of the best experiences Croatia has to offer, and getting there is also part of the fabulous experience!

Until next time!

"Amazing holiday in Croatia"

Didn’t know that my holiday in Split would be so dramatic, blue lagoon tour from split just made my day and filled up my memory with unforgettable loving memories. Highly recommend this tour if you want to boost your fun during vacations.

"Blue Lagoon from Split"

Blue Lagoon from Split has been an exceptional experience of my tourist life. The journey from Split to Blue Lagoon is as admirable as the destinations of the tour. However, you must have the true spirit of tourism if you want to book a package. The tour seems to be made for those who have enthusiasm for remote places.

"Blue Lagoon & Trogir"

Just heard about this amazing tour while wandering on the beach in Split and booked a ride. It was more than what I expected. Two awesome destinations the Blue Lagoon Island and the Trogir, and a breathtaking sail-in Adriatic Sea. I didn’t waste my time experiencing this magical tour. Recommended especially for international tourists.

Blue Lagoon tour from Split

Trip from Split to the Blue Lagoon should be at the top of your must-experience list when visiting Croatia. A visit here will put you in an exotic paradise that looks as if it was stolen from the Caribbean, with stunning translucent turquoise waters, a sandy seabed, and a pristine white pebble beach.

The shallow lagoon sits between the south-east coast of Drvenik Veliki island and two small islands, just off the coast from the medieval town of Trogir near Split. It’s in the middle of the Dalmatian archipelago northwest of island Solta, and as it’s protected from the elements by other islands, the water is usually calm and remarkably clear, allowing one to marvel at all sorts of fish and other marine life that inhabit the Adriatic.

The sea is home to some 7,000 animal and 6,000 plant species, the product of biological, geological, and climate processes that have shaped it over millions of years.

Visitors often point up that their day spent swimming, snorkeling, soaking up the sun and the scenery at the Blue Lagoon Croatia was the highlight of their time in the country, which is why we’ve put this guide together to help you take part in this enchanting experience too.

#1 Island Hopping Day Trip From Split, Croatia

Visit the Blue Cave and some of Croatia’s most stunning islands and incredible natural wonders.

Blue lagoon near Trogir town

All About Drvenik Veli Island

Drvenik Veli is where your trip to the Blue Lagoon Croatia will take you. A small island with a population of just 168 is the reason it offers such a serene, remote atmosphere, yet it’s just 14 miles from the port of Split and six miles south-west of Trogir’s harbour.

The island survives on basic agriculture, fishing, and in recent years, tourism. In addition to the famous Blue Lagoon, it has a number of secluded rock coves, olive trees, and some interesting churches like 16th-century St. George’s Church with an interior that includes a Venetian altarpiece and baroque furniture.

At the center of the island just outside Drvenik Veli village, the only settlement with a population is St. Nicholas Church. It dates back to 1715 but remains unfinished as the builder never managed to get past the monumental façade. Still, it’s worth capturing a haunting photo for your Instagram feed of what could have been.

The island has a long, rich history with traces of life from the Bronze Age uncovered and its first recorded mention in the 4th-century BC when it was called Proterio. In the 13th-century, there are documents mentioning it as “Giruan” and “Gerona,” before it was formally inhabited in the 15th-century.

People fled here, seeking shelter from the Ottoman invasion. One of the island’s most popular stories is that a force of 80 women living here were responsible for keeping it protected from the Ottomans, though there is little more known about it.

Today sparsely populated Drvenik Veli is mostly famous for its unspoiled nature, the clear waters of the Blue Lagoon, olive groves and carob. There are many different types of plants here that have played important roles in architecture, although the abundance of olive trees plays the biggest part.

They’re a significant source of income and trade among locals, who use them to make all sorts of goods, particularly olive oil. The process of olive oil making is specific from family to family, with everyone using their own methods for cultivation, harvest, and production.

The few who live here are mostly older residents with grandmothers who often gossip while grandfathers play cards or drink beer in front of the local store. Younger people and visitors of all ages typically come to this oasis to enjoy peaceful holidays and day trips, especially in the summer when they can spend their days relaxing, sunbathing, and swimming.

The locals, who speak in a distinct, specific Dalmatian dialect, often refer to it as ‘Ploca’ as the island is flat – ploca translates to ‘flat tile’ and as you’ll notice, there are few hills here. The highest peak is Glavica at 79 meters (259 feet) and on a sunny day the entire island is visible, including most of the homes.

Drvenik Veli and Mali Drvenik both have a tradition of building white-stone houses that have green framed windows and red roofs.

Octopus Dalmatian style lunch

Dining and Drinking

Residents in the area often go fishing, enjoying fish for their own meals or selling it, which is why restaurants often feature it fresh-caught. On a trip to the Blue Lagoon, you’ll have easy access to Haven Blue Lagoon, a restaurant/cocktail bar that offers a wide variety of seafood dishes, salads, and meats, including traditional classics.

If you want to sample typical Dalmatian fare you might try Octopus Dalmatian-style with octopus, tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, and onion. The Prawn Risotto, Drunk Mussels, and Grilled Sea Bream are all popular too.

All can be enjoyed alongside cold beers, creative cocktails, or an iced coffee if you’re looking to get re-energized for more time swimming or snorkeling in the Blue Lagoon. Live music and other entertainment are often provided as well.

Snorkeling in the Blue Lagoon Croatia

When to Visit the Blue Lagoon Croatia

The best time to visit Blue Lagoon is generally the peak summer months , July and August, which are filled with sunny, hot days while sea temperatures hover around 24°C/75°F for swimming. Although there is a small chance of rain, it’s unlikely to dampen your plans as this is the driest time of the year.

Of course, this is also when the most tourists are here, so if you’d like to avoid the crowds while still enjoying warm weather and water that’s comfortable for a swim, you might consider mid-May through mid-June or the first half of September .

As September progresses, the chance of rain increases too, although some years the lagoon will be comfortably warm and the weather dry through early October or even beyond, you’ll just have to be willing to take the risk.

Either ‘shoulder’ season is also ideal for exploring Croatia’s top sights without the crowds while often enjoying idyllic temperatures and sunny skies. It will be easier to secure accommodation and you might find some discounts on room rates and even airfare.

If you do decide to travel to the Blue Lagoon Croatia during the busiest part of the high season, July and August, you’ll want to be sure and book all of your experiences, including the Blue Lagoon, well in advance to avoid disappointment as it’s become such a popular attraction.

In addition to the time of year, you’ll want to consider the time of day for visiting. Mornings are best , which is why most tours to the Blue Lagoon depart early in the morning . Summer afternoons often bring in winds referred to as the ‘Maestral,’ which means the water won’t be as calm as it causes waves. Mornings are known for ‘bonaca’ which results in the sea being very calm, almost totally flat.

Safety and the Blue Lagoon Croatia

By choosing a reputable company for your Blue Lagoon Croatia tour , you can be sure the ride will be a safe one, with an expert captain and safety equipment on board, as well as a demonstration of how to use it typically included. If, by the off chance, the weather gets in the way, your safety should always be the first consideration.

As the water is so pristine and clear, the depth can seem less than it really is, which makes it important not to overestimate yourself, something that can put you at a greater risk for harm no matter how you choose to get to the lagoon.

If you’re worried about large predators in the sea, there aren’t any here, and encounters with poisonous fish are very rare. With such outstanding visibility, even without a snorkeling mask, it’s easy to spot marine life, including many types of starfish and sea urchins.

The sea urchins move slowly along the sandy bottom of the lagoon, so you’ll just want to avoid stepping on them as their spikes can penetrate the skin if pressure is applied.

Where to Base Yourself For a Trip to the Blue Lagoon Croatia

While there are ferries that can take you to Drvenik Veli, to reach the Blue Lagoon you’ll have to hop on a speedboat, which takes 30 minutes from Split. That means you’ll want to plan a stay in the ancient city as most excursions depart from there or from nearby Trogir. Of course, Split is also a place you won’t want to miss while you’re in Croatia anyway.

It’s home to some of the world’s most well-preserved Roman architecture, much of which can be found in the 4th-century Roman emperor Diocletian’s Palace. Even for those who aren’t into history or architecture, the maze-like complex is fun to wander with the centuries-old buildings housing everything from boutiques and galleries to wine bars and cafes. Plus, fans of the popular TV series ‘Game of Thrones,’ can check out the numerous filming sites from the show.

The palace cellars were the spot where Daenerys trained her dragons and are open to the public. Visitors can also enjoy people watching along the Riva promenade, checking out the daily markets, exploring museums, and spending time on the beach.

To enjoy it, your best bet is to plan on spending at least three days in Split, with one dedicated to your trip to the Blue Lagoon. Many people don’t allow enough time in this area, something they often regret, so be sure and take that into consideration when planning.

How to Get to the Blue Lagoon from Split

Now that you know where to base yourself, you’ll want to know how to get to the Blue Lagoon Croatia. We highly recommend taking the Blue Lagoon tour from Split  that also includes a visit to medieval Trogir on the return which we’ll touch on shortly.

It all begins by gathering at the meeting point with a welcome from your tour host. You’ll learn how to properly get on and off the boat as well as how to use the safety equipment.

After boarding, a brief intro session will fill you in on what to expect throughout your tour as the vessel slowly pulls away from the port. After departing, it takes about 45 minutes to reach the Blue Lagoon.

Along the way, you’ll get to enjoy lots of beautiful sights surrounded by the endless blue of the Adriatic, including the steep cliffs on the south side of Ciovo Island. Watch for the tiny 16th-century church, Gospe od Prizidnic. If you’re lucky, dolphins might even accompany you for part of the ride, so you’ll want to have your camera ready just in case.

After all, part of the fun is the trip to get there, enjoying the feel of the sun on your skin and the salty sea breeze. Once on land, simply stake out your spot to relax on the soft, fine sands that gently roll into the enticing blue waters. The lagoon is so irresistible it won’t be long before you decide to leap in.

While swimming is memorable, with the water so clear, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to snorkel, and you’ll have all the gear to enjoy it too without having to lug your own equipment around.

The Return from the Blue Lagoon to Split

As mentioned, the Split to Blue Lagoon tour also includes a visit to Trogir, founded in the 3rd-century BC. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s home to some of the best-preserved Romanesque-gothic architecture in Central Europe, so you’ll want your camera ready for this destination too. You’ll be able to take in magnificent views of the Venetian castle/fortress, Kamerlengo, from the waterfront promenade.

Visitors are also mesmerized by the gorgeous Romanesque-gothic Cathedral of St. Lawrence, the Town Hall, Town Gate, and other sites. Explore the labyrinth of small stone streets, visit Central Square, and perhaps Trogir Museum to learn more about its history.

Housed within the former Garagnin-Fanfogna palace, it displays drawings, documents, books, and period costumes from Trogir’s past. Or simply enjoy sipping wine in one of the many restaurants or bars, while watching the world go by.

From Trogir, it’s only about 30 minutes to Split, with the ride providing the perfect opportunity to exchange photos and maybe even contact information with your fellow passengers who by now, may have even become friends.
