There’s still a chill in the air in Ireland, but May is one of Dublin’s driest months, so it’s a good time to pack a jacket and enjoy the city before summer crowds (and higher prices) arrive. School's out and summer is in full swing, which means one thing – it's time for a vacation. While some like to take their time and enjoy the season before they jet off, June is a surprisingly good time to book a getaway. In some destinations, crowds won't arrive until July, leaving room for discounts on flights and hotels. We took into account these factors as well as weather, seasonal events (including Pride celebrations ) and a variety of location types – from city centers to serene beaches – to come up with the best places to visit in June. Glacier National Park

If you can accept not being able to access certain parts of this Montana park (such as the Going-to-the-Sun Road), you could save loads and avoid crowds if you visit in June. During this time, Glacier National Park's lodging options have lower rates and more availability than the rest of the summer months. High temps in the 70s mean you'll stay comfortable while hiking (many of the lower-elevation trails are open in June if you don't mind a little mud) or rafting down the Flathead River. For a more leisurely way of exploring the park, go boating on Lake McDonald.

June in Florence brings long hours of daylight ideal for taking in the city's famed art and architecture while the Tuscan sun shines. When temperatures get too warm (think: average highs in the 80s), there are plenty of must-see museums, like the Uffizi Gallery, that offer a cool respite. While you may have to contend with more crowds in the summer high season (make those restaurant and hotel reservations in advance), June makes up for this with a robust festival calendar. Sample the region's wine during Mostra del Chianti in the nearby town of Montespertoli and celebrate Florence's patron saint during Festa di San Giovanni.

With an average of 300 days of sunshine a year, there is really no wrong time to visit Lake Tahoe. But there is a case to be made for visiting this destination in June, which ushers in the carefree summer season with everything from farmers markets to free summer concerts to annual beer festivals. The water will likely be too cold for swimming, but you'll find stunning views from a boat tour or on a scenic drive, bike or hike around the largest alpine lake in North America. As an added bonus, with average temperatures in the mid-60s and 70s, you'll stay comfortable on any excursion.

Grand Teton National Park comes to life in June: wildflowers are in peak bloom, snow is nearly all melted and animals and their young are on the move. Just be prepared to share, as June is one of the most popular months to visit this park.

June is the Goldilocks summer month on the Amalfi Coast, when temperatures are warm enough for the beaches, but not yet scorching, and the season's crowds are just beginning to arrive. When you're not lounging on the pebbled shorelines, explore the region's 13 towns tucked along the Tyrrhenian Sea, hike the Path of the Gods or meander through the gardens at Villa Rufolo or Villa Cimbrone (still in bloom before the sweltering temperatures descend). What's more, June marks the start of festival season, so you'll catch events like the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics and the Festival of Sant'Antonio.

Though Edinburgh is known for its moody atmosphere, the Scottish city's stone facades and green hills perk up in the summer. If you’ve missed your chance to travel to one of our  best places to visit in April in the USA , no worries! Maybe the April showers deterred you from traveling, but the promise of May flowers may be the inspiration you need. Like April, May is the shoulder season for many destinations that get a big rush of tourism in the summer months. That means you’ll be able to enjoy warmer temps and (hopefully) smaller crowds.

Here are my best picks for where to travel in the USA this May:

1. Kauai, Hawai’i

As the Hawaiian Islands transition from spring to summer, temperatures increase on Kauai during the month of May but remain relatively mild. Picture opening the windows in your seaside bungalow to let the salty breeze in during the day, keeping a fan going to keep cool at night. Kauai sees less rain in May than March and April, making for sunny days perfect for hiking, sailing, hitting the beach, and all the other exciting outdoors activities on the island.

2. Alaskan Cruise

May marks the beginning of cruise season in Alaska. If you didn’t know that was a thing, neither did I! This is the time when the ice melts just enough for cruise ships to pass through their chosen routes, and if you want first dibs, book your Alaskan cruise in May.

Alaskan cruises are ideal for travelers who don’t necessarily identify as “cruise people,” as this is far from your typical experience. In Alaska, it’s less about hopping off the ship to explore a beach town, and more about taking things slow, catching glimpses of wildlife, and admiring the glacial landscapes you’ll find along the way. 3. San Francisco, California

In May you can expect to experience some of San Francisco’s best weather of the year. Sunny days with temperatures around the mid-60s make it just the right time to explore this hip and colorful city. Bring some layers to cozy up during chilly nights, though.

You’ll see flowers in bloom throughout town, which will add a dash of whimsy to your trip. May is also an exciting month for festival lovers, as Carnaval in the Mission District falls on Memorial Day weekend, celebrating the city’s rich Latin American and Caribbean culture.

May is also the ideal time to head out on a boat cruise to see San Francisco from the water. Soaking up the sun and enjoying the scenic views of the bay is a must-do.

4. Big Sur, California

Visiting Big Sur in May means you’ll be catching some gorgeous weather, right before it gets super busy with summertime tourists. If you haven’t considered adding it to your California road-trip itinerary , this is your sign to do so.

The stretch of two-lane highway that winds along the rugged Cali coast between Carmel and San Simeon is what we know as the Big Sur area, and it offers some stunning views of the ocean, like the one at McWay Falls. Make sure to check out the hidden gem Pfeiffer Beach , where the sand looks purple and the sunsets will take your breath away.

May temperatures are mild here, with blankets of fog moving in during the evening until dawn. This might make some travelers cranky, but I think fog is kind of beautiful and sets the scene for a sweet late spring/early summer adventure.

5. Las Vegas, Nevada

Vegas, baby! This glittery city gets quite hot in the summertime, so it’s best to check it out in May, before the heat becomes unbearable. You get the best of both worlds here: a bustling city full of lights and entertainment, and natural areas with great expanses of desert as far as the eye can see. It can be your base for visiting Zion National Park , the Grand Canyon, or nearby Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area.

If you’re up for it this May, consider road-tripping from Las Vegas to Reno for an unforgettable adventure full of quirky stops.

6. Canyonlands National Park, Utah

It’s no secret that we think Utah is one of the most beautiful states in the US , so why not make it your chosen May destination?

Awe-inspiring landscapes make Canyonlands National Park one of the best places to bask in the state’s beauty. May is a popular time to visit, because of the relatively mild temperatures (around 80 degrees during the day) which shoot up in the summer months, making it less than ideal for hiking. This month, though, you’ll be able to enjoy warm and sunny days without being overwhelmed by the heat.

You can indeed hike or drive through Canyonlands National Park to see its vast natural beauty, but you can also fly over it and see the incredible rock formations from above. Add Canyonlands to your Utah national parks road trip itinerary this May — you won’t be disappointed!

7. Havasu Falls, Arizona

There’s no wonder why Havasu Falls is at the top of our list of the most beautiful waterfalls in Arizona . Hiking there on the Havasupai Reservation is ideal in May, because it is warm enough to swim in the pools, it hasn’t gotten totally buggy yet, and you’ll visit just before peak season (it’s interesting that monsoon season (late June-August) is the most popular for permits, because you would think that the high temperatures and even higher chance of rain should be deterrents).

8. White Sands National Park, New Mexico

Sure, White Sands National Park might be in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico. Don’t let that deter you from visiting, though! This is one of the most magical places you can find in the US, hands down. It’s usually very uncrowded.

Since it’s so far off the beaten path, make sure to bring plenty of food and water with you. The sun can be quite harsh, especially in May, so bring sunscreen and a hat too, to shield you from those glaring rays.

What makes this place extra special in May is the abundance of purple sand verbena blooms that you’ll find scattered through the soft white sand. These flowers smell a lot like gardenias and were used by native people as a mild sedative for years.

9. Black Canyon at Gunnison National Park, Colorado

Beginning in May, both parts (the north and south rims) of Black Canyon in Gunnison National Park are open to enjoy. Like many other places on this list, this part of Colorado has the perfect hiking weather this month: just warm enough to bask in the sun, but not nearly as hot as the summer months.

A huge plus for Black Canyon is that it never gets too crowded, like some other national parks. You might be surprised that all this natural beauty hasn’t been hyped as much, especially when you see the black cliffs from above at Chasm View! This national park is an awesome place to go rock climbing, kayaking, and rafting. You can also camp at one of two campgrounds in the park.

10. San Antonio, Texas

You’ve heard about the Texas heat, so I’ll spare you the details of my sticky summers spent there. Sure, May temperatures are high in San Antonio, but it’s much more breezy and less humid compared to the summer months, making it a great time to visit.

Stroll along the San Antonio Riverwalk, or tour the historic Spanish Missions UNESCO World Heritage site. Don’t skip out on the amazing Mexican food either, because San Antonio is known for having the best tacos in the country (don’t come at me, LA folks!).

11. New Orleans, Louisiana

There’s a reason why New Orleans makes our list of the best places to visit in spring in the USA . Especially in May, New Orleans is bursting with color from flowers in bloom throughout the city’s parks. Plus, May isn’t nearly as humid as June through August, and temps peak in the low 80s. It’s an ideal time for getting out on the town and exploring by foot or taking a carriage ride through the French Quarter.

12. Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota

While some Southern states are in full summer mode, with warm temps and sunny days, Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota is just finishing its springtime thaw. As one of the lesser-known national parks, Voyageurs stays uncrowded even during peak season (May to August). That means you’ll be able to find plenty of nature-filled solitude here.

If you visit Voyageurs in May, make sure to bring layers, as temperatures peak around the mid 60s during the day and drop into the 40s at night. All of the newly melted ice means that the lakes and streams in the park are at their most impressive and ideal for canoeing .

13. Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Sometimes I get the feeling that Milwaukee is living in Chicago’s shadow, because the cities are so close together, but then I remember that Milwaukee has a flair of its own. May is a fantastic time to check out this Midwestern gem. Highs are around 70 degrees during the day, the warmest of the year so far. Winters are frigid in the Midwest, so Milwaukee residents get excited about sunny May days, as summer is just around the corner. Farmers markets around town, like the New Berlin Farmers Market, start to open in May, and it’s also a great time to rent a bike and explore on two wheels (make sure to ride along the lakeshore).

14. Holland, Michigan

Although Holland, Michigan, is thousands of miles away from its namesake, it captures the essence of Dutch culture in a beautiful way each May by celebrating its heritage at the Tulip Time Festival. Throughout town, there are literally millions of tulips in full bloom: in the parks, in home gardens, and along the streets. Holland completely changes color this time of year, and it’s truly magical for residents and visitors alike!

This charming Midwestern town receives the most visitors of the year during the month of May, so make sure to plan your trip well in advance, and don’t be surprised by the crowds!

15. Louisville, Kentucky

If you’ve read our Louisville guide , you know that this underrated city is truly a beauty. It’s also one of the cheapest places to visit on this list, so if you’re ballin’ on a budget but still want to travel this May, perhaps Louisville is your pick!

You can visit any month of the year and have a great time, but there’s no time like May, because of the Kentucky Derby . Even if you know nothing about horse racing, the derby is an iconic event at which you’ll be able to get a glimpse of Louisville’s unique culture and traditions. Make sure to book your flight and accommodations months in advance (if you can!), because this is the busiest time of year in Louisville.

16. Sevierville, Tennessee

If you like the mountains and fascinating museums and landmarks, put Sevierville on your list. The Dolly Parton statue is here, along with car and aviation museums. Between general stories and eateries, there’s also plenty of Southern hospitality. And, Sevierville is a great place to station yourself for exploring the Smokies! Must-do outdoor activities include the Forbidden Caverns, the swinging Bridge to Prosperity, and the mountain coasters!

If you can sneak a trip in May before the crowds start flowing in June, the weather will be in the low 70s, making it a great time to visit Tennessee . Hiking the mountains and visiting paved cities are also always a bit more pleasant when the temperature isn’t scorching hot. As with the rest of the country, flowers are in full bloom!

17. Key West, Florida

If you have been waiting for a glorious beach destination to travel to in May, this might be it! Key West gets its first taste of summer heat toward the end of the month, along with a higher chance of rain as May progresses. However, early May promises highs in the upper 70s and low humidity, making it perfect beach weather.

Idyllic and laid-back Key West is one of the best places in the US for a road trip, and this one-week itinerary is yours for the taking.

18. Everglades National Park, Florida

May marks the beginning of a long wet season in the Everglades, but don’t let that deter you from going. Since the wet season is just barely beginning in May, there’s still a chance that you’ll have sunny weather with less humidity than the summer months. Plus, rainstorms are typically very quick, so you’ll still be able to go looking for wildlife even if it rains.

Everglades National Park is home to some of the most biodiverse areas in the United States, so be prepared to see plenty of animals here, including the infamous Florida crocodiles. If you’re feeling especially brave, check out this kayak eco-tour through the mangrove tunnels .

19. Atlanta, Georgia

If you need a great budget trip, look no further than Atlanta, Georgia (we have a list of free things to do here ). You can float down the Chattahoochee River in an inner tube, check out art museums and displays, visit nature preserves, trails, and animal sanctuaries, and go on the Tiny Doors scavenger hunt.

May is a beautiful time to be occupied in Atlanta’s city streets because it’s still shoulder season here, but the temperatures rarely dip into the 60s or exceed the 90s. It’s normally pretty sunny with little rainfall, so you can spend a good bit of time outdoors.

20. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Myrtle Beach is one of the most quintessential East Coast beach towns in the US, and May is a wonderful time to visit. It’s warm enough to enjoy the beach, but the summer crowds haven’t begun yet. You’ll enjoy cheaper accommodation up until Memorial Day weekend, too.

Festivals are in full swing in May, including the World Famous Blue Crab Festival , which is one of the largest festivals in the Southeast. Get your beach hat and favorite swimsuit ready, because Myrtle Beach is calling you this May.

21. Asheville, North Carolina

Asheville has the perfect mix of outdoorsy grit and the charm of a small Southern city. As one of the best cities in the US for budget travelers , this one is great if you want to stretch your dollar. It’s an artsy place with a quirky atmosphere that makes it stand out from other cities in the South.

May is the ideal time to head to Asheville because it and surrounding mountains are in full bloom, and the mild warmth is just right for a hike on one of the many trails nearby. Another huge plus is that the farmers markets are open and offer local produce, which you’ll also enjoy at Asheville’s restaurants.

22. Virginia Beach, Virginia

Virginia Beach comes alive in May, as the seaside city kicks off its epic festival season with the Atlantic Coast Kite Festival and Neptune Spring Wine & Food Festival at the beginning of the month. You can also catch the Pungo Strawberry Festival at the end of the month. I mean, what more do you need?

May is the ideal time to visit Virginia Beach, because, like other beach destinations, summer isn’t quite in full swing yet and you’ll get a head-start on the season. It’s also a historical and cultural hub, with plenty of amazing restaurants and an epic boardwalk to explore. You can also learn about the city’s past on this haunted walking tour .

23. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

May is a great time to explore historic Philly, as it is just starting to warm up and it isn’t full-blown tourist season yet. You’ll be able to enjoy the city on foot, taking in the sights and smells of the quintessential Philly food trucks without having to fight the crowds.

Although May yields about 10 days of rain on average, you won’t have to worry about getting soaked, because there are so many things to do indoors, like checking out the incredible museums. If you do get lucky with sunny skies, don’t miss out on Philly’s art scene on this walking tour .

24. New York City, New York

Last but certainly not least on this list is larger-than-life NYC, which is absolutely stunning in the late spring and early summer. That’s why May is the best time to visit. Now that the trees are green again, you’ll love strolling through Central Park, seeing all the people hanging out and having picnics. You’ll also see tulips and other flowers in full bloom at parks throughout town.

There’s always something happening in New York at any given time of the year, including plenty of free things to do . I also recommend hitting up the colorful and flavorful Bronx Night Market , which starts its summer season before the beginning of May.

There’s enough variety in this list to give anyone decision anxiety, but I can’t think of a better problem to have than to be able to choose from among these destinations for a trip in May.

I like the variety of places you suggested here! And we are going to Myrtle Beach in May! Our first trip in a couple years. Your recommendation was perfect as we chose May due to the milder temperatures (and comfortable water, it can actually get too warm in a way in late summer), less crowds (after the golf crowd, before school goes out for the year if you go in early May), and good deals. You did your research regarding the weather! Great job as always!

15 Amazing Places to Explore in June in the USA

With long days, big blue skies, and hours of endless sunshine, I think June is one of the best times of year to explore the States. From hip city breaks to gorgeous coastal towns, here are my favorite spots to explore during this summer month…

1. Mackinac Island, Michigan

I think this is a charming and quaint gem! Located in Lake Huron, in the northern part of Michigan, it’s easily accessible by ferry from Mackinaw City or St. Ignace.

I’m always won over by the captivating scenery here. There are picturesque tree-lined streets, historic Victorian-style buildings, elegant hotels, and miles of rocky shoreline, all set against the sparkling waters of Lake Huron. I also love the slow-paced vibe it has!

I personally visit from this month through August , as the weather is perfect for a warm vacation (although mornings and evenings can be cooler). There are pretty flowers and fewer crowds before the official holidays start. I also love attending the gorgeous 10-day Lilac Festival, which features parades, music concerts, garden tours, and even a coronation of the Lilac Queen!

On my trip, I hiked and biked the miles of scenic trails through Mackinac Island State Park (which covers over 80% of the island!), kayaked around the coastline, explored the quaint fudge shops (Murdick’s Fudge was my favorite!) and quirky independent stores and visited the pretty inhabitants of the Original Butterfly House & Insect World !

My favorite highlights…

• Exploring the interesting historic Fort Mackinac which dates back to 1870! I especially loved the live cannon firing demonstrations, the costumed historical reenactments and the stunning panoramic views of both the Straits of Mackinac and Mackinac Island! 
• Dining al-fresco at the nautical-themed Pink Pony Restaurant – I loved the trendy pink decor, the gorgeous lake views and the divine gourmet onion rings and house made hummus!
• Discovering the striking landmark Arch Rock, which stands 146 feet tall and features in many local legends, was incredible. Climbing to the top of the viewing platform and gazing at the breathtaking views of Lake Huron was a huge highlight as well!

2. Bodega Bay, California

I love this gorgeous coastal hidden gem with an awesome laid-back vibe! It’s located in Sonoma County on the Northern California coast, 30 miles from Santa Rosa. I can’t get enough of the small-town, friendly vibe it has as well as the breathtaking scenery which includes dramatic coastal cliffs, sandy beaches, and gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean! 

I always head there during this month because I find the temperatures pleasant, with a cool ocean breeze. The coastal bluffs are full of wildflowers in full bloom, and the clear skies and dry days are perfect for outdoor activities. I also loved attending the events—my favorites were the Bodega Bay Seafood, Art & Wine Festival, and the Bodega Bay Film Festival.

On my most recent trip, I hiked the scenic trails in Sonoma Coast State Park, spotted migrating gray whales from Bodega Head, dined at the farm-to-table restaurants, went wine tasting and explored the collection quirky independent shops and art galleries.

My highlights…

• Experiencing a private, romantic sunset boat tour with Bodega Bay Sailing, complete with a gourmet picnic as the sun set over the horizon – it was an unforgettable experience!
• Tasting the award-winning Sonoma Rosé wine at the boutique Halleck Vineyard Estate – I loved sampling their wines in the scenic location surrounded by rolling hills. It was great to hear about their sustainable and organic farming practices too.
• Dining al fresco on divine, sustainably produced food at Drakes Sonoma Coast was an awesome evening out! I loved their rustic-chic decor, cozy fire pits, and their delicious homestyle potatoes and sautéed foraged mushrooms.

3. Put-in-Bay, Ohio

I love this quaint island destination for a low-key summer vacation! Located on South Bass Island in Lake Erie, Ohio, near Port Clinton, it can be easily reached by the Put-in-Bay Ferry. I’m always charmed by the picturesque waterfront views, pretty flower gardens, lush greenery, and quaint historical architecture as well as the laid back and friendly vibe. 

I visited during this month and I found the weather to be just right for outdoor activities, there’s fewer crowds than the peak of the summer holidays and there’s great events like the family-friendly Put-in-Bay Music Festival, the lively celebration of Founders Day and the fun Pyrate Fest (a costumed annual pirate event)! 

On my trip, I went boating, biking, and hiking in South Bass Island State Park, discovered the charming downtown with its quaint independent shops, waterfront restaurants, and live entertainment, kayaked on Lake Erie, explored the limestone Perry’s Cave, climbed to the top of the 352-foot Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, visited the fascinating Lake Erie Islands Historical Museum , and sampled delicious Pink Catawba wine at the rustic Heineman Winery.

My personal highlights…

• Dining at the waterfront restaurant and bar The Boardwalk – I loved the friendly, casual vibe, the stunning views of the harbor, the multi-level decks, the hearty menu which used locally sourced ingredients and their divine Lava Cake dessert! 
• Catching a live country music band called ‘The Warped’ at the iconic circular-shaped Roundhouse Bar – I adored the lively fun vibe, the cool retro decor and the unique open-air setting!

4. Laguna Beach, Southern California

I think this picturesque coastal city makes a dreamy early summer destination! It’s located in Orange County, California around 50 miles south of Los Angeles. I’m a big fan of its arty and bohemian vibe as well as the golden sandy beaches, the sparkling turquoise ocean, dramatic cliffs, and the scenic hiking trails. 

I always head down here in June as I find the weather is warm and sunny and perfect for relaxing on the beach and trying out the water sports. It’s also just before the peak of the summer crowds arriving and there’s awesome annual events such as the wonderful Festival of Arts and Pageant of the Masters and the fun Laguna Beach Music Festival.

On my recent trip, I relaxed and watched surfers at the iconic Thousand Steps Beach, Victoria Beach, and Main Beach, discovered local art galleries, hiked in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, and explored charming streets lined with chic boutique shops, trendy cafes, and oceanfront dining options.

• Trying a fun private beginner’s surfing lesson with Laguna Beach Surf School and then relaxing along the golden sands at Crystal Cove State Park . 
• Hopping on the Laguna Beach Trolley which took me around all the best sites – my favorite stops were the stunning coastal park Heisler Park and the unique outdoor theater the Pageant of the Masters! 

5. Chicago, Illinois

Chicago is a fun and dynamic city! Located on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan in northeastern Illinois, I love its gleaming skyscrapers, historic architecture, awesome culinary scene, beautiful lakeshore parks, vibrant neighborhoods and upfront but friendly locals!

I love visiting in July as I find the weather is warm and sunny, there are fewer crowds than during the peak summer holiday months, and there’s events galore such as the annual Chicago Blues Festival and the lively LGBTQ+ Chicago Pride Fest.

On my visit, I dined al-fresco at the incredible restaurants (I loved Osteria Via Stato and Ema ), hung out at the sandy North Avenue Beach, strolled along the scenic waterfronts, picnicked in Millennium Park and discovered the buzzing entertainment destination, Navy Pier.

• Hanging out at the Riverwalk filled with bars, shops, restaurants – I adored the awesome views of Chicago River, the quirky public art installations and people-watching at the busy Michigan Avenue Bridge.
• Visiting the stylish Cindy’s Rooftop Bar – I was a big fan of the trendy decor, the breathtaking views and the great hand-crafted cocktails, especially the floral Hawaiian Rose cocktail!

6. Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts 

I’m always charmed by this much-loved, picturesque vacation island! Located off the southeastern coast of Massachusetts, it’s easily accessible by ferry from New Bedford. I love the laid-back, family-friendly, and arty vibe, as well as its long sandy beaches, historic lighthouses, stunning coastal landscapes, and quaint towns with cute gingerbread-style houses.

I always visit from May to September , when the days are long, the temperatures are warm, and there’s plenty of sunshine to enjoy the gorgeous beaches! June is just before the peak summer months, but I find that the events and outdoor activities are in full swing—such as the popular Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival, which takes place this month.

On my trip, I dined al fresco at excellent restaurants, browsed independent boutique stores, discovered the picturesque harbor in Edgartown, and hiked to the stunning Aquinnah Cliffs.

• Staying at the quaint and historic Summercamp Guest House – I loved the quirky and colorful decor, ocean views and the in-room tech such as the cool iPads which came loaded with handy area information! 
• Going on a guided tour with Martha’s Vineyard Tours and Excursions and exploring the historic sites – I especially loved the wonderful Oldest House and its rustic furnishings and large central chimney, the interesting Old Mill, and the photogenic Edgartown Harbor Lighthouse where we climbed the spiral staircase to see the observation deck! 

7. Camden, Maine

I think this charming New England coastal town is a postcard-worthy delight! The picturesque seaport is located along Penobscot Bay in Knox County, Maine. I find the scenery here gorgeous, with small sandy beaches, a scenic coastline surrounded by the rugged Camden Hills, a farm-to-table culinary scene, and a harbor filled with gently bobbing sailboats and sparkling blue waters. I also love the quaint and friendly New England town vibe, along with the vibrant arts scene!

I always love to visit during this month, as there’s a gorgeous display of pink and purple wildflowers, the temperatures and sunny weather are perfect for outdoor activities, it’s just before the peak summer crowds arrive, and the town comes alive with local events and festivals, such as the two-day music festival Jazz in June !

On my trip, I hiked the scenic trails, relaxed on the sandy Crescent Beach, attended a performance at the elegant Camden Opera House, and explored downtown, which was filled with art galleries, historic buildings, unique boutique stores, and the scenic Waterfront Park.

• Staying at the gorgeous 4-star Relais Chateaux Camden Harbour Inn – I adored the chic modern decor, their in-room massage services and the incredible gourmet French cuisine which was served in their dining room! I can recommend the Mushroom Velouté! 
• Dining al-fresco on the deck at the Waterfront Restaurant – I loved the ocean views, the quaint nautical theme and their divine artichoke fondue!  

8. Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

This is a super charming lakeside resort town! It’s nestled along the shores of Geneva Lake in southeastern Wisconsin (near the city of Kenosha). I adore the tranquil, friendly small town vibe here as well as the scenery, the crystal-clear waters and charming historic homes surrounded by green rolling hills.

It can get busy during the peak summer months, so I prefer to visit in this month when the warm temperatures are ideal for boating, hiking, and exploring the beautiful shoreline. The town really comes alive with lush greenery, as well as festivals and events, such as the Destination Geneva National Food & Wine Festival and the fun Old World vs. New World Wine Dinner!

On my recent trip, I really enjoyed exploring Shore Path, which was lined with Gilded Age mansions, taking a guided tour of the sprawling former 19th-century home of Chicago beer magnate Conrad Seipp at Black Point Estate and Gardens (I was in awe of the perfectly preserved Victorian furnishings!), hiking the scenic trails in Big Foot Beach State Park, discovering the intriguing Geneva Lake Museum , and kayaking on the beautiful lake!

• Visiting the boutique Studio Winery & Geneva Lake Distilling – I loved that it also doubled as an art gallery, the unique, creative vibe it had and tasting the divine Cabernet Sauvignon!
• Staying at the wonderfully unique historic boutique hotel –  Maxwell Mansion Hotel – I adored the exquisite vintage-style decor, the large comfy beds with plush lines, the sculpture-adorned garden and the fun Secret Speakeasy hidden behind a bookcase! 

9. Santa Barbara, California

I’m always in awe of this pristine coastal city! It’s located on the central coast of California (a two hour drive from Los Angeles), and I think it’s a gorgeous spot nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean with stunning sandy beaches, picturesque harbors and distinctive architecture including Spanish Colonial Revival. It’s an upscale spot but I love that it still has a laid back and arty vibe! 

With around 300 days of sunshine and warm currents, it makes a fantastic outdoor-focused destination for most of the year. However, I personally prefer to vacation here during this month for its fine and comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds compared to July and August.

I also really enjoy the blooming gardens and the fantastic calendar of events, festivals, and wine tastings. The wonderful Summer Solstice Celebration, the popular Santa Barbara Wine & Food Festival, and the dreamy Lucidity Festival all take place this month!

On my trips, I explore the fine boutiques, the incredible restaurants and surrounding hiking trails. I also really enjoyed taking a boat tour to Channel Islands National Park (with Island Packers Cruises ) and sampling Pinot Noir at the rustic-chic Melville Winery .

• Exploring the State Street Promenade Market – I loved the charming outdoor seating, local artisan stalls and I especially loved the Sea & Sky Naturals stall, the handcrafted jewelry and the hand-made gourmet chocolate truffles! 
• Dining at the locally famous La Super-Rica Mexican restaurant – I was a big fan of the casual vibe, funky art deco decor and the incredibly tasty spicy veggie tacos and Gordita Frijol! 

10. Portland, Maine

Often known as “Vacationland”, I think this is a beautiful and vibrant New England destination! Its nestled in Cumberland County, in southern Maine, along the Atlantic Ocean, around 110 miles north of Boston

I’m always charmed by the laid-back welcoming vibe as well as the farm-to-table dining, rich maritime heritage, lively arts scene, stunning coastal scenery, picturesque lighthouses, quaint buildings, and pretty harbors dotted with boats.

I always time my visit for this month, as the weather is pleasant (with just a few occasional cool spells) and perfect for exploring the waterfront and outdoor attractions. There are fewer crowds just before the main summer season starts, and a few festivals, like the annual Rose Fest and Portland Wine Week, take place during this time.

On my vacation, I relaxed on the beaches, hiked the scenic trails, discovered the striking Portland Head Light, took a ferry to Casco Bay Islands, drank locally made craft beer at the Shipyard Brewing Company , strolled on the charming Eastern Promenade and explored the historic Old Port District filled with cobblestone streets, cute independent stores, and excellent restaurants.

• Going on a whale watching boat tour with Odyssey Whale Watching – it was an incredible moment to see humpback whales leaping out of the ocean (this month is great for spotting them)! 
• Dining at the upscale New American UNION Restaurant – I loved the trendy modern decor, watching the chefs in the the open kitchen, and eating creative dishes like the delicious vegetable dish, Hominy Succotash! 

11. Shasta Lake, California

I am always wowed by this wonderful hidden gem! Located in Northern California, near the town of Redding, it is actually the largest reservoir in California, formed by the Shasta Dam on the Sacramento River. This is the place I come to immerse myself in unspoiled nature. Although it’s a family-friendly recreational lake, I find it still has a zen-like vibe due to being a relatively under-the-radar spot.

I find that the scenery is equally as enticing and consists of sparkling azure waters and a handful of beautiful sandy beaches set against a backdrop of towering mountains, thick green forests, and the striking Shasta Dam.

I always visit during this month, as the weather is hot and ideal for an early summer vacation complete with water activities. The lake is also typically very full from the spring runoff, and it’s just before the peak summer holidays arrive.

On my trip, I camped out at Antlers Campground (there were also cabins and lodges to stay in), hiked the scenic trails, relaxed and picnicked on the beaches, went swimming, kayaking and boating on the lake and explored the interesting (and cool!) Shasta Caverns.

• Hiking the challenging 5.5-mile Castle Dome Trail in Castle Crags State Park which took me to the base of the huge granite formation Castle Dome, I especially loved seeing the yellow and purple wildflowers and the panoramic views of Mount Shasta.
• Going on a free guided tour of the Shasta Dam was a fantastic experience! I learned how its construction provided jobs during the Great Depression and how its hydroelectric power plant generates enough energy to power hundreds of thousands of homes.

12. Santa Cruz, California

I’m a huge fan of this cool and funky Californian beach town! It’s located along the northern edge of Monterey Bay on the central coast of California, 75 miles south of San Francisco, and I visit for sun and summer fun! I love its relaxed, bohemian vibe, as well as the sandy beaches, gorgeous coastal scenery, and turquoise blue waters surrounded by rugged cliffs.

I take my vacation here during this month as I find the weather is warm, sunny and dry (though there are some cooler evenings), I usually find some great hotel discounts and there’s fewer crowds before the craziness of July and August . There’s also lots of fun events taking place such as the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Summer Concert Series and the LGBTQ+ celebration, Santa Cruz Pride.

During my trip, I really enjoyed hiking the scenic coastal trails at Wilder Ranch State Park, braving the Giant Dipper roller coaster on the iconic Boardwalk, and exploring the buzzing downtown area filled with unique shops, local restaurants, and awesome nightlife!

• Watching the brave surfers tackle the waves at the iconic spot Steamer Lane – I climbed the bluffs above Steamer Lane and watched them for hours, the ocean views were also incredible from there!
• Dining al-fresco at the Mediterranean & Afghan restaurant Laili – I especially loved the cute outdoor patio dotted with twinkling lights and their creative dishes. My favorite was the delicious leek dumplings and saffron risotto! 

13. Cape Cod, Massachusetts

This tranquil and picturesque gem is located on a cape that juts out from the mainland in the southeastern part of Massachusetts. The scenery here is truly dreamy, featuring picturesque sandy beaches, glorious dunes, historic lighthouses, and stunning coastal landscapes. I’m always captivated by its quaint yet relaxed charm and rich maritime heritage, which is evident throughout the area!

It’s a very popular summer vacation destination, but I love to visit during this month before the peak crowds arrive in July and August. There are slightly better deals on accommodations, and the weather is pleasant and fine. You’ll also find blooming wildflowers, local festivals, and the popular Provincetown International Film Festival.

During my break, I explored the photogenic Nauset Light and Chatham Lighthouse, relaxed and paddled on beautiful Nauset Beach, enjoyed an incredible whale-watching tour, and discovered the elegant streets lined with unique shops, art galleries, and fine restaurants in the charming towns.

• Visiting the community-focused Chatham Farmers Market – I loved the awesome and varied food trucks, handmade crafts, sustainable focus and picturesque setting. I especially loved the artisan Brewster Coffee Company Stall!
• Staying at the gorgeous historic boutique inn Captain Freeman Inn – I adored the cute veranda, the pretty garden, the gourmet breakfast and the upscale unique decor!

14. Dillon, Colorado 

This picturesque mountain town always enchants me! Located in Summit County in central Colorado, it’s just 15 miles from Breckenridge and a 70-mile drive from Denver . I love the outdoor-oriented lifestyle here as well as the charming shops, cozy cafes, and local breweries.

The scenery is also breathtaking, and I’m always in awe of the beautiful mountains, clear waters of Dillon Reservoir, and towering pine forests!

I last took a trip in June and found the weather was warm and just right for all the outdoor activities and there were lush greenery and pretty wildflowers everywhere. I also really appreciated the thinner crowds compared to the peak summer months!

I really enjoyed camping at Dillon Lake Campground, exploring the charming Main Street of nearby Frisco, hiking along the Ptarmigan Trail, visiting the cool Pug Ryan’s Brewery and going boating, biking and kayaking!

• Hiking the leisurely 5.5 mile Dillon Reservoir Loop Trail which took me on a scenic loop around the picturesque reservoir. I also loved the breathtaking vistas of the Tenmile Range and the pretty purple wildflowers. 
• Staying at the cozy The Sapphire Point Cabin – I really liked the indoor swimming pool, the complimentary breakfast and having scenic hiking trails nearby.

15. Long Beach Island, New Jersey

I love this beautiful spot, commonly referred to as ‘LBI’ by the locals! This scenic barrier island is located off the coast of New Jersey, about 60 miles east of Philadelphia, near the city of Beach Haven. I’m always won over by its friendly, laid-back beach-town vibe, along with its stunning sandy beaches, sweeping dunes, gorgeous ocean views, local boutiques, and chic eateries.

I prefer to take a break here during this month, as I find the weather is warm and sunny, and there are fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months. Additionally, there are some awesome festivals, such as the popular LBI Lighthouse International Film Festival, the Beach Haven Art Walk, and the fun Hop Sauce Festival, which is dedicated to craft beer!

On my trip, I visited ‘Old Barney,’ the iconic lighthouse in Barnegat Lighthouse State Park. I relaxed on the beaches, watched the surfers at The Spot, took a tour of the fishing docks in Viking Village, and discovered the chic eateries and independent boutiques

• Having fun on a hot day at the family-friendly Thundering Surf Water Park , I loved tubing down the lazy river, the fun 18-hole mini-golf course and the awesome simulated surfing attraction the FlowRider!

We planned a trip to Rio de Janeiro, one of the most visited cities in the Southern Hemisphere, for our summer vacation. My father is a lover of natural beauty, and we decided to book flights to Rio de Janeiro because it is known for its natural settings, samba, carnival, bossa nova.
