15 Best Things to Do in Batam (Indonesia)

Batam is just across the water from Singapore, so if you are looking for a weekend break to Indonesia then this is a great place to come. From Singapore it is a 40 minute ride to Batam on a speed boat and once you are there you can enjoy a huge range of activities far more cheaply than in many other parts of Southeast Asia.

The island is famous as a place where people come to relax and get away from it all and as such it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Indonesia. You won’t find a huge array of ‘attractions’ like historical sites as such, but you will find a number of resorts, spas, restaurants and cafes, and the nightlife here is lively with a good range of choices if you are looking for some entertainment in the evenings.

Another reason why people flock to Batam is for the diving or snorkeling opportunities as the waters here are incredibly clear and visibility is excellent if you want to explore the underwater kingdoms in this part of Indonesia.

Let’s explore the best things to do in Batam :

1. Enjoy the water sports

Batam Cable Ski Park

One of the signature attractions in Batam is the water sports as it is located right next to the water.

In other places like Singapore the coast of water skiing or wakeboarding can really add up but in Batam you can enjoy these for a fraction of the price and one of the best places to do this is at the Batam Cable Ski Park.

Just some of the activities on offer here include canoeing, jet skiing, or even snorkeling or you can check out other famous resorts like the Batam View Beach Resort.

2. Visit Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple

Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple

This temple is one of the more serene ways to enjoy Batam and is the place to come if you want to find some inner peace.

Devotees here usually burn incense for good luck and you can enjoy the colorful and elegant Buddha statues here as well as the carvings of twelve zodiac signs which lie opposite the temple.

One of the best things about the temple is that there is also a cafe here and you buy a range of delicious vegetarian food including buns and snacks in the shape of cute animals.

3. Take a trip to Penyengat Island

Penyengat Island

There are a number of islands around central Batam Island that are perfect for day trips and one of these is the stunning Penyengat Island.

It is not one of the largest islands in the area and you can walk around it in around two hours which means that if you get here early you can go for a walk before spending the afternoon sunbathing and then catch the spectacular sunset.

One point of interest on the island is the local mosque called Masjid Kuning (Yellow Mosque) and legend has it that eggshells were used in its construction to make the walls stronger.

The island is also a great place if you want to get a glimpse of how locals live in the less touristy parts of Batam.

4. Dine on seafood

Batam Seafood

Batam is also known for its seafood which again is far cheaper than Singapore or other parts of Southeast Asia.

Some of the top picks for seafood in the city include the Sei Enam Seafood Restaurant as well as the Rezeki Seafood Restaurant and Harbour Bay Seafood.

If you are looking for signature dishes then try the chili crab which is famous in the region as well as black pepper crab and snacks like crunchy calamari.

Other underwater delights about here such as juicy prawns and even dine on freshly caught lobster which is usually simply grilled and served with white rice.

5. Travel along the northern coast

Duriankang Reservoir

Many people come to Batam and only check out the main tourist areas or take a boat to some of the neighboring islands.

If you want to explore a little further however then consider a trip along the northern coastline.

One of the best ways to do this is to hire a motorbike or a bicycle and drive past gorgeous lush jungles with sweeping vistas over the water on the other side of the trail.

The trail will take you along the Duriankang Reservoir and then along the pretty Nongsa Coast and if you choose to ride a bike then you can expect around a 30 kilometer ride from Nongsa Village to the end of the line.

6. Sunbathe on Nongsa Beach

Nongsa Beach

Nongsa Beach is one of the best places to come if you are in Batam and looking for some sand.

The beach has a relaxed atmosphere and is less crowded than some other places on the island.

It is also close to a range of amenities and you will find an array of eateries lining the beach that are a great spot if you fancy a spot of dinner or a drink while watching the sunset.

There are also some spas nearby and you can go for a paddle or a swim.

7. Watch the sunset at Barelang Bridge

Barelang Bridge

Barelang Bridge is one of the most iconic sights in Batam and people flock here in the late afternoon for the photo opportunities.

The bridge actually links main Batam Island with adjacent Galang Island and the bridge is a marvel of engineering as it majestically spans the water between these two islands.

If possible try to go around sunset for the best vistas across the water.

8. Have a massage

  • Author : Suci Pratama
  • February 20, 2024

RAKERNAS IV PHRI at Swiss-Belhotel Harbour Bay Batam

The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association ( PHRI ) will hold its 4th National Working Meeting (RAKERNAS IV) in Batam from February 21-22, 2024. This event marks the 55th anniversary of PHRI and will bring together over 300 participants from PHRI chapters across Indonesia’s 26 provinces.

The purpose of RAKERNAS IV is to convene PHRI leadership and discuss current issues and solutions facing Indonesia’s tourism industry. Key topics will include sustainability, visa regulations, and a proposed entertainment tax. The event also provides an opportunity for PHRI to align its mission with Indonesia’s overall national development goals.

The Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants Association (PHRI) was founded in 1969 with the vision to advance Indonesia’s hospitality industry. For over 50 years, PHRI has been the leading hospitality association in the country with members spanning hotels, restaurants, resorts, and other tourism businesses across all provinces.

It aims to raise hospitality standards, provide training and education, and be an advocate for policies that enable tourism and hospitality growth. Discussion Topics

At this National Working Meeting, PHRI will discuss and find solutions related to issues in Indonesia’s tourism industry such as:

Sustainability

Sustainability is a key issue for Indonesia’s tourism industry to address. Hotels and restaurants need to implement more environmentally friendly practices, from reducing waste and water usage to sourcing local and organic ingredients. Discussing sustainability initiatives and solutions will be a priority at the meeting.

VOA (Visa on Arrival) Regulations

Evaluating current regulations and proposing updates is another important discussion topic. In particular, participants will analyze the VOA (Visa on Arrival) regulation and how it can be improved to boost tourism. Simplifying complex regulatory processes could make it easier for tourists to visit Indonesia.

Entertainment Taxes

The implementation of a new entertainment tax will also be analyzed at the meeting. Participants will discuss how this tax could impact hotels and restaurants, and propose ways to make it work effectively for the industry. Getting taxation right is crucial for tourism businesses’ success.

By focusing the discussions on these key issues of sustainability, regulations, and taxes, PHRI aims to develop concrete solutions for Indonesia’s tourism industry to implement after the meeting. This will enable the sector to tackle critical challenges and thrive in the future.

Significances

This National Working Meeting organized by PHRI serves as an important platform for the tourism industry in Indonesia to come together and discuss solutions to current issues and challenges. With over 300 participants from 26 provinces, it represents a diverse range of stakeholders across the country. Key topics on the agenda include sustainability, visa regulations, and a proposed entertainment tax.

The outcomes of the meeting will directly impact tourism development in Indonesia. With sustainability a pressing issue worldwide, the industry must take action to promote responsible practices that protect the environment and local communities while still allowing tourism to thrive. The discussions around visa policies and taxation will shape the future business environment for hotels and restaurants.

By bringing together major players from across Indonesia’s vast archipelago, the event fosters unity and alignment within the industry. Participants can share best practices and innovative ideas to elevate the sector. With the government also involved, the forum creates an opportunity to directly convey the industry’s perspectives and needs to policymakers. This will inform important reforms and regulations that can accelerate tourism growth.

Agus Kadaryanto, Head of BPS Batam, announced this exceptional growth during a city government forum, noting that Batam’s economic performance far exceeds that of the Kepri Province and the national level. This success is attributed to the flourishing industrial sector and a significant increase in international tourist arrivals, which have revitalized various economic sectors including food businesses, modern retail, hospitality, and transportation.

Batam’s growth rate of 7.04% sets a new benchmark for economic development, placing it well above the regional growth of 5.20% and the national figure of 5.02%, showcasing its strategic importance in Indonesia’s economy.

Maldives adventures its natural beauty Sea-Sun-Sand for the travelers and in the marketing literature it is called “Sunny Side of Life”. As a destination (Sunny Side of Life), many tourists consider Maldives as a must do content of their bucket lists today. Most believe Maldives as an expensive destination that they can only visit once in their lifetime. Resorts in Maldives are on self-contained islands, very similar to the outside observer, yet each island with its unique reef and ecological features is a different product from the neighboring resort. Resorts offer complete relaxing experiences and are constantly challenged to find new means of satisfying guests and give them a pleasant experience to encourage for their return. In past decade travelers have been moved down to travel and experience nature which is the fastest growing segment in the tourism sector, also most importantly safe and secure destination are on top priority to choose destinations to travel for leisure holidays (Kimmel, 1999). Additionally, considering to this research it was revealed that destination image and coastal tourism both plays a direct significant role on customer satisfaction and retention in setting of hotel industry of Maldives. The results are supported (1) destination image (ß = 0.263, 26.3% and P = 0.01≤0.05) and (2) coastal tourism (ß = 0.279, 27.9% and P = 0.00≤0.05) respectively.

Many researches have been conducted to study and elaborate the relationship between tourists' perceptions towards quality of destination. The results show the two concepts have significantly related. However, very little had been known about the direction of relationship and measure of this relation. This study aimed to measure the relationship between two concepts where tourist's perception a priori is positioned as exogenous and quality of destination as endogenous latent variables. Notes that latent variable could not observe directly, tourists' perception is measured using its indicators, namely: (i) accessibility into and within destination (ACC); (ii) accommodation (HOT); (iii) restaurant (RES); (iv) shopping facilities (SHO); and (v) attractiveness of destination (ATT). Meanwhile quality of destination is measured using three item, namely: (i) intention to revisit the destination (REV); (ii) the matching degrees between tourists' expectation and reality in des...

INTRODUCTION

In 2019 the Indonesian are a target of 20 million tourists from abroad who will be pursued through the 3A program, namely Attractions or natural wealth, Amenities or accommodation and Access. Indonesia are received quite a proud appreciation from the world, such as Indonesia being ranked 9th in the version of The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) in 2018, Indonesia has also being one of the most beautiful countries around the world based on the Rough Guides survey in 2019. This makes Indonesia has extraordinary attractiveness and the tourism industry is one of the fourth largest contributors to incoming money for the state after palm oil, oil and natural gas and coal mining (Basorudin et al., 2021). However, in 2020 and 2021, Indonesia and even the world will experience a decline in tourist arrivals, both domestic and foreign tourists due to the pandemic Covid-19 that has hit the world.

Quoted from BPS data for 2020 the tourism industry in Indonesia, based on the percentage of occupancy rates of star-rated hotel rooms during the Covid-19 period, as of January 2020 there was a decrease of 49.17% compared to December 2019 for hotel room occupancy, the decrease occurred by 10.22%. , in February the decrease increased by 0.05% from January 2020, in March 2020 it decreased to 32.24% compared to February 2020, in April 2020 it fell to 12.67%, then in April 2020 the occupancy rate of star hotels weakened in Indonesia in April 2020 was 46.72% when compared to December 2020 (Paramita, 2020).

The tourism industry itself has attachments to other sector of the economy, this is because the tourism industry is a combination of phenomena and reciprocal relationships because in tourism activities there are interactions with tourists, suppliers, the government with the aim of developing tourism in certain areas involving local communities. In developing and maximizing tourism, the services provided to tourists from quality hotels in Indonesia cannot be separated from the collaboration of private companies, the government, stakeholders, the role of the community. The survey results from the National Labour Force (Sakernas), the tourism industry continues to absorb the national workforce (Berliandaldo et al., 2021).

Human resource management activities are recruitment, selection, employee career planning (Blayney et al., 2020). Several studies have concluded that HRM directly affects employee performance (Nieves & Quintana, 2018). Policies from human resource management to recruit and select are important things to form a quality work ecosystem by providing a balance for employees. Based on the background and previous research, the problem formulation that was concluded in this study is that Indonesian hotel industry employees still have the ability to speak English in the lowest position in countries that are members of the ASEA Economic Community (Bali, 2019). The study sought the analyze was the effect of work motivation, leadership style, training, organizational culture and employee satisfaction on the performance of hotel employees in Batam City.

LITERATURE REVIEW

Motivation is a mixture of various activities that have a function in every individual living thing and involves various combinations of strategies (Folalu & Aneke, 2020). Motivation is also the strength of a worker in acting and achieving certain goals (Paais & Pattiruhu, 2020). Motivation is widely discussed in the subject of behavior in organizations (Ali et al., 2019). Employees who have been motivated have the same goals as other employees in the organization and try to achieve their goals (Aafis et al., 2010), (Mon & Jennifer, 2022). Differences in backgrounds and norms adopted by employees also affect behavior and affect the level of motivation of these employees to work. The impact of motivation and influence on employee performance in the hotel industry makes employees their work effectively and increase the productivity from Ahmad & Manzoor, (2017); Setiawan, (2020); Folalu & Aneke, (2020); Osman et al., (2016). (Paais & Pattiruhu, 2020) Motivation and leadership have a positive and significant effect on employee performance but job satisfaction does not have a positive and significant effect on employee performance.

An effective leadership style must be adaptable to a work environment and situation. According to Aisah (2020), leadership style affects activities, especially in an organization in the process of controlling humans or groups of workers in building a common goal towards successful interaction of various individual differences (Paais & Pattiruhu, 2020). Leadership style has effect on employee performance with positive and significant in corporate organizations (Pancasila, Haryono, & Sulistyo, 2020). Leaders are also referred to as someone who is able to bring about changes that lead to the good of employees and the company. In leading companies and employees, leaders are expected to be able to provide solutions to conflicts that occur within the company is research from Sandhu et al., (2017); Chei et al., (2014); Paais & Pattiruhu, (2020). (Mon, 2019) the success of a company is not only determined by a leader but also determined by the organizational structure that is designed, such as the technology used and the level of the organizational structure itself.

The aim of training is to increase the understanding and ability currently possessed by employees to carry out tasks to full fill organizational goals. The effect of training programs on employee performance has been shown to be effective in building a learning environment and training abilities and overcoming challenges easily and precisely (Analysis et al. , 2010). Employees are trained to be productive, imaginative and consistent in improving work. Training is considered an important tool for increasing overall organizational productivity (Ahmad & Manzoor, 2017). Training can be carried out internally or externally with three objectives, namely improving employee performance, achieving organizational goals and successfully competing in the business world, Hendri, (2019). Good and well-planned training increases the factors that affect quality employee performance. Another goal of having sufficient training for employees is to keep employees abreast of any changes in the future and reduce anxiety about trends that are currently developing research Ali et al. ., (2019). (Muchsinati & Jeanny, 2021) on the same research object in the previous year showed employee training had effect on employee performance with a positive and significant either directly or through mediation on job satisfaction.

Corporate culture becomes important to coordinate organizational activities within the company. Culture also becomes a guideline in the company’s organization regarding things that will and will not be done (Paais & Pattiruhu, 2020). Organizational culture is value and managed by the organization, the patterns of behavior and the basic philosophy of its founders, which establish rules that are used as a guide in thinking and acting to achieve organizational goals (Golung, 2013). Organizational culture is the values acquired and managed by the organization, the patterns of behavior and the basic philosophy of its founders, which establish rules that are used as a guide in thinking and acting to achieve organizational goals (Golung, 2013). Culture of Organizational and ethical leadership in the industry shipping have influence on organizational and employee performance a positive and significant, this shows the importance of paying attention to the culture that exists within an organization (Evi Silvana Muchsinati & Mea, 2022)

Employee satisfaction is satisfaction with their work. According to Siengthai & Pila-Ngarm (2017). Employee satisfaction is driven by satisfied employees at work and motivated so that it affects employee performance more effectively and productively. This also causes a low number of turnover due to satisfaction from employees (Eliyana, Ma’arif, & Muzakki, 2019). Employee satisfaction is a series of employee perceptions that will influence employee attitudes and behavior while working (Hendri, 2019). According to Tsui et al. (2013). Employees with skills and knowledge in the workplace will achieve job satisfaction. When job satisfaction is fulfilled it will result in positive employee performance. The benchmark for employee satisfaction must be assessed from several aspects of the work carried out by research employees from Otoo et al., (2019); Rajalingam & Jauhar, (2015) Pawirosumarto et al., (2017); Al-Ali et al., (2019)

The research variable is a value, the activity of an object that has many variations between one variable and another that has been determined by the researcher to study and seek information and draw conclusions (Ridha, 2017).

Conceptual Framework

Conceptual Framework

According from the literature review above, the hypothesis in this study is:

H 1 : Motivation has a positive and significant effect on employee performance

H 2 : Leadership has a positive and significant effect style on employee performance

H 3 : Training has a positive and significant effect on employee performance

H 4 : Organizational culture has a positive and significant effect on employee performance

H 5 : Employee satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on employee performance.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This research is a quantitative research. The research was conducted data in the form of a questionnaire to see the effect of one variable on another. The research located in Batam City, Indonesia. Considering that the Batam City area has many hotels spread out because it is one of the international entry points for foreign tourists besides Bali. Sampling used a questionnaire as a data collection instrument with the characteristics of the respondents.

The population of this research is hotel employees in Batam City, Indonesia. The number of samples in this study refers to Hair et al where the number of questions on the questionnaire is between 5 – 10, so in this study the sample is 230 respondents. The data collected was processed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) to test the effect of each independent variable on the dependent variable. The analytical techniques used in this study include validity testing, reliability testing, these two tests are instrument quality tests to ensure the measuring instrument matches the variables used, the classic assumption test consists of a normality test, multicollinearity test and heteroscedasticity test, these three tests ensure there is no data deviation in the respondents’ answers in the study, if they meet the requirements then a hypothesis test or regression test is carried out and finally the coefficient of determination test, to determine the effect of the independent variables as a whole affecting the dependent variable in this study.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

The data was obtained through a questionnaire of 230 respondents who are hotel employees spread across the city of Batam. From these data previously tested validity and reliability of the questionnaire results declared valid and reliable and can be used in the process of further research. For the outlier test there is no outlier deviation so that all data from respondents can be included in the hypothesis test or regression test. The data collected as many as 230 processed will be shown in the table below in the form of respondent demographics

Table 1 Demography Respondent

In processing the data in this study the classical assumption test was carried out where this test to ensure that data deviations did not occur consisted of a normality test, multicollinearity test and heterotest, where the three tests were a requirement to continue the regression test. The test results show that the three tests meet the requirements. So that the regression test can be continued. The results of the three tests that have been carried out:

Normalitas Test

Normalitas Test

Normalitas Test

Table 2 Collinearity Testing

Test Results Collinierity

If the Collinearity testing for Tolerance value is above 0.1, it can be concluded that the data does not have multi co linearity and the VIF value is below 10. The test results of the regression test or hypothesis test can be seen in the table below

The terms of the hypothesis are accepted Sig value is less than 0.05, and vice versa if the sig value is greater than 0.05, the hypothesis that was previously proposed is rejected or does not meet the criteria. Based on the results of the analysis on the regression test above from the five independent variables, namely motivation, leadership style, training, and employee satisfaction, have a positive and significant effect on employee performance. While one other variable, organizational culture in this study did not prove to have a positive and significant effect on employee performance.

Each hypothesis test value is as follows: hypothesis 1 motivation has a positive and significant effect on employee performance with a small significant value of 0.05 which is equal to 0.025, the results of this study support the results of previous studies. Furthermore, for hypothesis 2, leadership style on employee performance with a significant value of 0.028 and t count of 2.266, the research results also show a small significant value of 0.05. Hypothesis 3 for the training on employee performance significance value are 0.000, meaning that the 3rd hypothesis also supports previous research. The organizational culture variable is not proven to support previous research due significant value is above than 0.05 with a result of 0.860, so the fourth hypothesis is not support with previous research. The 5th hypothesis of employee satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on employee performance with a significant value of 0.018, meaning that this hypothesis also supports previous research.

Based on the results of the adjusted R square test to determine the model’s ability to explain the dependent variable, it can be seen from the test results that the coefficient of determination (R2) in the table above is 0.412. The higher the value of the coefficient of determination shown, the more precise the performance measurement means that the higher the value produced, the better the model proposed in the study. Based on the test results above, it can be concluded that the value of Adjusted R Square (coefficient of determination) is 0.412, which means the effect of the independent variable (X) on the dependent variable (Y) is 41.2%. the remaining 58.8% is influenced by other variables except in this study. This means that in future research it can add other variables besides those that have been tested in this study.

CONCLUSIONS

Based on the results of the analysis and testing of the hypothesis, it proves that there is a positive and significant influence between work motivation, leadership style, training, and employee satisfaction on employee performance. This is indicated by the results of the t test which is more than t table (1.96). For each variable besides the significant test, we can also see for the regression on each variable, the motivational variable t test is 2.140 greater than 1.96, meaning that motivation has a positive and significant influence on employee performance, leadership style t count is 2.266 also shows the value of t count is greater than t table so it can be concluded that leadership style has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Employee training has a t-test value of 4.136 compared to t-table. This shows a positive and significant effect on employee performance. In contrast to organizational culture, the t count is smaller than the t table, so it can be concluded that organizational culture has no significant effect on employee performance. The last variable is employee satisfaction, the calculated t value is more than t table with 2, 613 research results for this variable are also proven and in accordance with the hypothesis.

The limitations of this study are that this research is still limited to research on the tourism industry in Batam City, Indonesia and uses samples from different hotel employee data so that they tend to vary and this research cannot be directly applied to a particular hotel. Recommendations that can be given from this study are to be able to use different variables to improve employee performance, especially in the hotel industry outside Batam, such as areas that are well-known for the hotel industry in Indonesia.

Hospitality expert with international teaching experience brings entrepreneurial perspective to students

Chang brings knowledge of organizational behavior and human resources to department of hospitality, hotel management and tourism.

February 9, 2024 - by Paul Schattenberg

An expert with wide-ranging hospitality, international teaching and entrepreneurial experience, Wen Chang, Ph.D., has joined the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Department of Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism as an assistant professor.

Chang, who earned her graduate and doctoral degrees in the U.S. and taught here before going back to her native China, has returned to the U.S. to share her knowledge and experience with students and colleagues in the department.

Her expertise ranges from human resources, financial, revenue and leadership management in the tourism industry to hospitality management, operations and law. Her industry experience spans food and beverage management, as well as spa and recreation management.

Headshot of a woman, Wen Chang, Ph.D. She is wearing a blue jacket with a white shirt.

“Dr. Chang brings a wealth of personal experience and expertise related to the hospitality industry, as well as an international background as an instructor,” said Brian King, Ph.D., head of the Department of Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism. “Our department and students are benefiting from her knowledge of issues relating to organizational behaviors within the hospitality industry, focusing primarily on employee motivations, leadership and technology-mediated service quality enhancements.”

King added that Chang’s contributions to academia and industry reflect her dedication to advancing knowledge and improving the hospitality sector.

“I feel my international teaching experience and familiarity with both the Chinese and U.S. hospitality industries will bring a new perspective to the department and my students,” Chang said. “And having owned and operated my own business, I also bring an entrepreneurial perspective to my teaching.”

Education and teaching experience

Chang earned a bachelor’s degree in tourism and hotel management from the School of Tourism and Hotel Management at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in Dalian, China. She came to the U.S. in 2009 to continue her studies, earning a master’s degree in hotel and restaurant management from the Conrad Hilton School of Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Houston. After that, she earned her doctorate in hotel administration from the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Chang’s extensive experience includes time as the associate dean at the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and as an associate professor and director of international programs at the Dongbei University of Finance and Economics.

Chang also spent time as an assistant professor at Iowa State University’s College of Human Science Department of Apparel, Events and Hospitality Management, and as a visiting lecturer and teaching assistant at the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for five years.

“In my teaching, I strive to give my students the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in the hospitality industry,” Chang said. “I want them to know the way things really are, why they matter and why they should be done a certain way. My main goal with my students is to prepare them for a career in the industry.”

Chang chaired master’s committees and served on several doctoral committees at Iowa State University and Dongbei University of Finance and Economics. She was also an external Doctor of Hotel and Tourism Management committee member at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Publications, presentations and achievements

Chang’s work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, and she has served as an editorial board member for the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management and the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Insights.

Chang has made conference presentations on a wide variety of topics, including employee performance, leadership influence, service robots, wine consumer behaviors, anger in hospitality, employee engagement, tourism career motivators and barriers, career satisfaction, formal mentoring, social media use and more.

She has also successfully secured research grants from the National Science Foundation of China and the Liaoning Provincial Development and Reform Commission, as well as teaching grants from the Educational Department of Liaoning Province.

Chang also received internal grants and scholarships from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; the University of Houston; the Dongbei University of Finance and Economics; and the Tianjin University of Finance and Economics.
