ITINERARY OF FOUR ISLANDS TOUR IN NHA TRANG

8:30 to 9:00. Bus and tour guide will pick you up at the hotel and move to the habor, then the vessel will take tourists to 4 islands on Nha Trang Bay

9:00-11:30. Visit Mun island.

The sea surround Mun island is the first marine conservational area in Vietnam that protects 350 species of coral and marine creatures. It takes approximately four to five metres from the coast; you will be amazed while diving to watch colorful coral reefs as well as beautiful fishes and many other sea creatures. You may also see the coral in glass bottom boat

11:30 – 12:30. Time for lunch. Tourists will enjoy lunch on boat with delicious and fascinating food such as fried shrimp, fried fish used with tomato sauce. spring rolls, cabbage soup cooked with shrimp and meat, lagim fried noodles, water spinach sauteed with garlic, fried chopped egg, steamed rice, seasonal fruits for dessert

12:30 – 14:00. Visit Mot island

After lunch, you will enjoy excellent music program “Dance Of Sea” by our band’s performances that promises to bring you moments of relaxation and leisure.

Soon, you will join with us in the “Floating Bar Party” on Mot island; enjoy cocktails and fruits along with music being harmony with small waves’ sound on the romantic blue sea.

14:00 to 15:45. Visiting Tranh beach

You can rest, relax on the beautiful beach. You can also participate in water sports such as banana float, water motorbike, parachute pulled by boat (costs excluded).

After visiting Tranh beach, visitor can enjoy the taste of the seasonal fruit on the vessel.

15:45 – 16:45. Visit Mieu island, Tri Nguyen Aquarium.

The vessel will go ashore at Mieu island to explore the mystery of Tri Nguyen Aquarium designed to look like a stranded mysterious pirate ship on the reef.  Aquarium is located on the ship – which displays many strange species of coral and marine life. Outside the ship, it is Lo Thien aquarium where tourists can buy food to lure turtles and fish going out of the water.

16:45. The vessel will take tourists back to Cau Da port and the bus will drive you back to the hotel.

At 9:00 Am, our tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel in Nha Trang and start the Nha Trang 4 Island Tour with  Vietnam Shore Excursions . • jeanemmanuelp2018 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Lies and threats with the so called "snorkeling tour 3 islands" In summary if you don't have time to read everything, the "snorkeling 3 islands" excursion is a day where you start with the feeling of being scammed, the guide Ana who openly lies and it ends with insults and threats from Mr. Thuan, obviously the manager, when we tell him our dissatisfaction. In detail : 1. Pick-up at the hotel : given between 8 and 8:30am but at 7:30 the guide blames us by phone for not being ready. 2. First stop Small boat where all the tourists are crowded and go to “Bai Tranh Beach”. They want to force people to stay on a mini sandy beach where all the boats and jet skis pass. They are dangerous, so we are very limited in space to swim. The worst thing is that we paid to come snorkeling and they lent us a mask and snorkel but with all the boats there are no fish nor coral. A jet ski passes right by us, I shout but he signals us to go to the beach... Seriously? We want to go further, to the rocks but a guard prevents us from passing. We ended up defying the ban by swimming further towards the rocks even though they didn't want to let us pass. In the end it's less dangerous because the boats don't approach the rocks and there is a little bit of marine life but almost nothing to see. We look at the brochure sent by the agency and we see that there are 3 photos with parasailing, diving or boarding, these are 3 additional activities. In fact, the agency's goal today is not to make us go snorkeling because there is nothing to see, but to charge extra. A group of Chinese with us were a little upset because they paid for the diving extra but it was actually only 15 minutes in slightly murky water. But when they came back to the beach for snorkeling, they didn't see any fish and so they were happy to have done the diving just to do at least one nice thing on this island. For showers, you also have to pay an extra 10,000 vnd to have a water drop. Even for the toilets, you have to pay 10,000 vnd if you want toilet paper... Other people don't want to go in the water and want to walk on the island, there too, a guard stops them, you have to stay on the mini sandy beach, "but don't hesitate to take an extra excursion !". In fact it's really stupid and dangerous, it would be enough for them to start the boats, bananas, parachutes, etc. on the sandy beach and give access to the bathers on the pebble beach, or the opposite. The 2 beaches are small but it would be enough. 3. Lunch We take the boat again and stop immediately. The guide explains to us that we are on the 2nd island in the fishing village. We tell him no, we are still on the same island... Besides, why is it the same island? She tells us that the weather conditions mean that we cannot access the other island. But the sea is calm, no wind, very decent weather... She then tells us that it is not 2 islands but 2 stops on the same island. So not only does she openly lie but she also makes fun of us... She reassures us by saying that there is another island afterwards. We go to the table with a lot of things on the table, waste guaranteed. The irony is that we are in the fishing village but the fish and shellfish are not fresh... The only decent dish is chicken! At our table, a Vietnamese cooking lover proudly shows us a dish because it is typical and it is an emblem of Viet cuisine. He tastes it, grimaces and orders an extra sea urchin for 5 USD... He laughs... Because even at a meal in the fishing village, if you want freshly caught food then it's possible but at an extra cost! We look at the brochure and we see that we must have some fruits. But another failure, there is indeed a plate of mango on the table but it is a very hard green mango. This type of mango is generally used to make a sauce, not to eat it hard... 4. 3rd stop We take the boat again and stop at "Vinh San Ho 2", still on the same island... The guide welcomes us to this 3rd island! The Chinese group laugh, we explain to the guide that we are still on the same island. She replies “yes sorry, it’s not the 3rd island but the 3rd destination”. In the end we pay for an excursion called "3 islands" and we only do one. It doesn't bother me, we came for the snorkeling so 1, 2 or 3 islands, it doesn't matter. What's the point of lying and making people believe they are 3 islands? People who aren't paying attention are convinced they have made 3 islands and we see it in some comments, it's crazy! Be honest and say 3 stops on an island. At this new stop, it's even worse than the first, many more boats dropping off tourists, there is a crowded swimming pool and a small beach barely bigger than the first. Showers cost 70k vnd but the guide gives one ticket per person. No marine life, no fish nor coral, just jet skis. We end up saying to ourselves that we should forget about snorkeling even if we paid for an excursion with that title... The guide tells us that "someone" wants to leave at 2:30pm while on the brochure departure is indicated between 3 and 3:30. That's good, keep lying to us, for once it doesn't bother us because there's no point in staying here. We want to forget this day and we are going to walk towards the fishing village. A guard tries to stop us but we insist and pass. The area is demarcated by a large sign, just behind you discover a sort of beach full of waste, it's horrible. We say to ourselves that the agency should show tourists the water in which they want us to snorkel! In the end, the walk in the village is the only thing not included in the program and without extras that we can do. And it's the only fun time of the day even if the amount of waste is really impressive! We have seen a lot of waste in South East Asia but here we are at the top. 5. The return The guide collects the money on the last beach but we say that we will pay on the way back. We wanted to show him our dissatisfaction but we prefer to be dropped off at the correct address first because we are starting to distrust this agency. Once dropped off, we explained to her that it was an excursion with snorkeling but they dropped us off on small beaches with a lot of boats so there was no marine life to observe. It says 3 islands, personally 1, 2 or 3 islands, it doesn't matter but be honest. On the other hand, what is really unfortunate is that she lied to us by saying that it was because of the weather conditions. She tries to say that in fact the weather is not the cause and that the error comes from the brochure. But when she explains to us the details of the service supposedly given, she repeats that there are several islands and we say each time "several stops, not several islands". The guide rolls her eyes and asks for the money, she doesn't care at all about the remarks. I had obviously prepared all the money for payment but I only took out half of it and I threatened to only pay part of the price because we only got part of the service. That's it, she wakes up and I have her attention. We argue, but she pretends not to understand. She calls someone by phone, I explain the problem to him and he understands, he will talk about it with the guide. She refuses and calls a second person. I pick up the phone and I have Mr. Thuan on the phone (obviously the manager of Letsflytravel because his name is on the website) who directly starts yelling that I'm a "bad person" and asking me if I'm sure I don't want to pay. "Do you want to pay or not?". He keeps cutting me off, I stay calm and let him get more and more angry in a very ridiculous way. I try to tell him that I didn't say that I won't pay at all, but I don't see why I would pay in full when the brochure he sends us is called "snorkeling 3 islands" and that there is nothing to observe underwater and only one island... 2 lies in the title of the tour... The images on its own brochure are just extra activities. It is therefore disingenuous and deceitful on his part. Mr. Thuan doesn't let me finish any sentences, I cut off the phone and we start again. He then starts insulting me, shouting the f-word and even making ridiculous threats like "do you really want to be able to get out of Vietnam one day?". So I put the loudspeaker on so that the guide can hear but she immediately gets worried and tries to turn off the sound because the people around us also hear that poor man getting angry on the phone while we remain very calm. Usually Asian people make fun of westerners because we get angry and they don't, I was so happy that it was the contrary here. It gave me the feeling that I won even after a bad day. At first I just wanted to get an apology but the more time goes on, the more I tell myself that I really shouldn't pay... But I don't want to let this kind of people think that I am not good. So I pay as expected and here I am to explain in detail the problem of this agency. I realize that the reviews on TripAdvisor are negative but on Google it seems good. The problem with Google is that most tourists here are Chinese and don't want to leave reviews on Google, like the group with us who were also very disappointed but didn't want to complain. The bus picked us up timely and from the start to finish Binh, our tour guide was excellent! He was so polite and well spoken in English too. The 1st island was disappointing with a very small area roped off to swim and rocky bottom. All there was to do was to wait to go to the 2nd island. Delicious and plentiful food for lunch on the 2nd island. 3rd island again, a tiny area roped off to try to swim but had a somewhat larger area for snorkeling . Days passed and I hadn't received a response so I reached out a day prior, again. After a third attempted, I was told that the tour was cancelled (I don't know why) and that I'd have to rebook a different tour with them at a higher price. He read me the new itinerary over the phone and said he'd follow up with the details on Whatsapp. I texted multiple times after that and heard nothing. I know they were received because WhatsApp lets you know when a text is read. So I called Tripadvisor to request a refund THEN received a call back THE DAY OF the tour, which I didn't answer because this was way too much to continue with this.I could had rebooked with another tour but wanted to not lose money with this tour, since I hadn't received my money back for the cancellation. • Matthias K 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Terrible Let’s Fly Travel - 3 Island Tour All in all we felt like the maximum of money was supposed to be squeezed out of the otherwise annoying tourists. Had they just stayed in their hotels and given the money without the expectation of any service, it would have been better for both tourists and operators. We booked the tour because it was advised in our hotel. Pick up in a big comfortable bus with a nice tour guide worked very well and we were asked if we wanted to do any scuba diving or sea walking in the Coral Island location. We expressed our interest in the Sea Walker as it would suit our daughter, however inquiring the price with one of the guides we were told that this would cost 15 million VND, inquiring a second time with the other tour guide lowered the price to 1 million VND for a 10 minute experience (in other locations we were offered a 1 hour scuba dive for 500,000 VND), so we decided to kill the two hours in the first location by using our own snorkeling gear, because the supposedly included snorkeling gear was suddenly only available at the last island. However, you were not supposed to swim where it was actually possible to see a fish or coral. In order to show our daughter the promised coral we paid 150,000 VND to some glass bottom boat and I have to say the coral in that area is - not surprisingly - in terrible condition. So location one was essentially a complete fail (0 stars) and I am more than happy I did not pay for any other diving experience. Location two was a floating restaurant (rather than a island) which served us some “ok” food including an fish and a bit of a calamar. The location was otherwise nice. So location two may deserve 2 stars. Location three was a private beach around the corner, where we were supposed to be able to do some relaxed swimming and snorkeling. How swimming in the meaning of the word is intended to working this place, I have no idea. The beach with arm chairs included in the entrance fee is actually quite nice, however, not only using the showers, but also using the toilets costs 10000 VND. The beach you cannot really enjoy as the middle of the beach is occupied by a boat pier where big and small boats come in and go out every 5-10 minutes (see picture). At the end of the beach they are pulling parasailers off the beach every few minutes which are brought back in by jet skis that push anyone that is swimming outside an invisible 50 by 15 meter mark back to the swimming area that is either filled with people or a mixture of 2-stroke and diesel exhaust fumes or both. Snorkeling - impossible or meaningless! I may still give 1 star for the otherwise nice location. Read more Written March 6, 2019

8.30 - 9.00: Our tour guide and driver will pick you up at the hotel and transfer to the boat station, where we take a boat trip to 4 islands on Nha Trang Bay .

9.00 -11.30: Upon the arrival to our first island, named Mun Island,  moored to get on the island 

This is the first marine conservational area in Vietnam that protects 350 species of coral and marine creatures. It is about 4 - 5 metres far way from ashore of Mun Island; you will be amazed while diving to watch colorful coral reefs as well as beautiful fishes and many other sea creatures. You may also see the coral from the boat

After visiting Mun Island, we will comeback to the boat for lunch with delicious and fascinating food such as fried shrimp, fried fish cooked with tomato sauce, spring rolls, vegetable soup, lagim fried noodles, water spinach sauteed with garlic, fried chopped egg, steamed rice, seasonal fruits for dessert....

Likely the best one-day experience in Nha Trang. Islands, beaches, snorkeling, partying, this excursion has it all. Live music and serenading from the guides.

If you're staying in Nha Trang, you can book the 4 islands tour from any hostel or travel agency on the street for around $8-10 USD.

The tour starts at 8:30 am with a pickup from your hostel, and then heads to the docks. You'll head out to the islands with your first stop at an island for some swimming and snorkeling. You'll hang out here for about 2 hours. Your boat will return with a full lunch setup...spring rolls, shrimp, squid, fish cakes, rice, more than you can eat. The guides break out drums and a guitar and serenade the boat with tunes and bring people up for some karaoke. And of course, plenty of beer.

The next stop will be at another island for some jumping off the boat and hanging out in the water with a "floating bar". You'll continue to another beach stop, where I slept most of the time being already exhausted from being in the sun all day. The final stop is at an aquarium, but at the time of writing this cost 90,000 dong (~$42) and our guide said it wasn't that great so we skipped it.

You'll return to Nha Trang around 4:30-5pm.

Overall, a beautiful and fun day, especially for the younger crowd. They seem to do a pretty good job of segregating the regular tourists and more rowdy backpackers by boat so everyone has a good experience.

How I Self-planned a Nha Trang Four-island Trip Without Scams Involved

Not until recently being listed as one of the World’s 50 best white sandy beaches worldwide by US News & World Report, had Nha Trang been widely seen as an everlasting icon for beach lovers.

Needless to say, this Central Vietnamese precious gem brings you everything you may ask for in a finely-gifted pristine coastal town with both high-end services and local-known attractions.

One of the most sought-after things to do in Nha Trang is a day trip throughout the city’s four best islands. However, what are they, how can I combine all four in a day, or should I self-plan it or jump in a tour? These are all very valid concerns!

Easy as it seems, enjoying the islands to the fullest as a foreigner is sometimes not a piece of cake, as it is hard for some of you to navigate which services to use or where to eat.

For instance, tourist traps are everywhere, even for Vietnamese like us. When I talk about traps, I mean things like hidden fees that are not included in what you pay at the beginning.

Even worse, the guides don’t bother to introduce all four islands as stated at the beginning. Rather than that, they’re supposed to take you to only three of them without much useful information explained.

This is when the second option comes in: signing up for a tour online. To not fall into scams, I luckily got advice from a friend to book a high-quality four island tour in Nha Trang operated by expert tour guides via Inspitrip.

Their itinerary combines all four of the biggest Nha Trang islands with a really good deal including everything you need in this trip, from snorkeling, boating, food and so on.

All you need need as extra items are your own swimsuit and sunscreen!

A deep insight into the four islands

The four islands we’re talking about are known as Mun Island – Mot Island – Tam Island and Mieu Island. They are home to some of the best features that cannot be found elsewhere. Let’s take a look!

Mun Island – Hon Mun

Mun means “Ebony” in Vietnamese. So why Ebony? Dating back to the initial structural geology of the island, its Southeastern side has been filled with multiple imposing limestones, creating a wide range of darkened grottos and caves.

This gives out a stunning ebony look underneath which differentiates Mun Island from the rest in the same area.

Because of this, Mun Island is known as the most romantic island in Nha Trang.

When is the best time to visit Mun Island?

The best time to visit coincides with the best climate, usually falling  between July and September each year. August in particular, which brings in temperate weather, like a sunny clear sky without harsh rainfalls. Feel free to pick this time if you aim to look for fun outdoor activities to join!

How to visit Mun Island?

Without saying, first off, you need to arrive in Nha Trang. This can be done either by plane, train or sleeping bus depending on your personal budget.

Mun Island is roughly one kilometer away from Cau Da Harbor in Nha Trang, and to reach the harbor, you can rent a scooter for VND 100.000 (~ $4.31 USD)/day. In case you’re traveling with family or a large group of friends, then a taxi or Grab car/taxi will be a better choice.

After arrival, you can choose either a wooden boat or canoe, which costs around VND 300.000 (~ $12.94 USD)/one way for 45 minutes, while a wooden boat is much cheaper at VND 250.000 (~ $10.78 USD)/one way and of course, the trip lasts way longer!

What to do in Mun Island?

Blessed with such an exceptional terrain and climate features, Mun Island is home to a mind-blowing number of lively and colorful coral reefs, especially at the elevation at around 10 meters under the sea.

It’s recorded to be up to 2000 types of coral and 1500 marine faunas. Guess what? Scuba diving is my all-time favorite thing to do whenever I visit Nha Trang.

Sipping a cocktail at a beachside bar while in the Mun Island, in my opinion, can be ranked as one of the top things to do in Nha Trang. Enjoying an icy drink while chatting with your loved ones in such a pristine coastal city like Nha Trang is already a reward, and this takes it to a whole new level at Mun Island.

This is where you will hold a glass of cocktail while floating on the surface of the sea, as the bars come in a set of mooring buoys. So don’t forget this going with the flow in the middle of the sea is what you’ve been searching for!

For those who are fed up with wallowing in the waters, then why not jump in a glass-bottom boat and sail around as another cool option?

This way helps you stay away from getting wet while still giving you a closer look at the enormous coral reefs underneath.

Mot Island – Hon Mot

Next up, I had Mot Island as the next gem in my Nha Trang four island tour .

The site is found nine kilometers away from Nha Trang city center towards the Southeast. The total coverage of Mot Island is just under a square kilometer, and that makes it the smallest island across the whole Nha Trang Bay.

I saw a small tranquil fishing village when I was there. Apart from their daily fishing activity, fresh and shady orchards are other things they take care of each day. Cashew, mango and coconut trees are the most popular crops on the island.

How to visit Mot Island?

We all depart at Cau Da Harbor, and of course, once again, you can opt for a wooden boat or a canoe! Asking for a whole private canoe for your own group of friends or family is the best choice.

What to do in Mot Island?

Filled with stunning coral reefs even though the water there is a little more shallow, so I highly recommend scuba diving on this site if you consider yourself not a pro-swimmer!

Tam Island – Hon Tam

Tam Island is the second best island out of four after Mun Island. Hence, we wouldn’t advise skipping Tam Island.

When is the best time to visit Tam Island?

In my opinion, the finest time for a trip to Tam Island is from March to September each year.

How to visit Tam Island?

Once again, there are two ways to reach the island:

First, you can submit a booking through one of the most trustworthy travel agencies for a Nha Trang four island tour with everything arranged and a guide included. However, the thing is you might not know if you pick the right choice or not, as Nha Trang four island trips are densely offered. Without the advice from a local friend, things may get a little harder.

Second, you can rent a canoe. There are 20 round trips daily, and each of which starts with 25 passengers.

Other than that, hunting some eye-pleasing photos for your Instagram daily feed is what I chose to do during the day I was there.

What drew my attention was the setting of white clouds and lengthy coastline, featuring a huge dream-like wood-made bridge cutting through the sea. The background is even more romantic with a wide range of shady green coconut trees from afar.

Tam Island is filled with a wide array of interesting outdoor activities, such as golfing, jet-skiing, paragliding, flyboarding, kayaking in the recreational complex of Sparkling Waves and Sunset Villas.

In case you decide to spend the entire day on the Island, then make the most of your time there with a trip under the sea observing coral reefs and finding pearls, and a cultural trip to the handicraft villages to witness activities such as weaving, pottery, and wine-making.

Mieu Island – Hon Mieu

Last but not least, Mieu Island is the final name wrapping up our four islands today. The island is situated not too far off from Nha Trang, which takes you only 15-20 minutes on a wooden boat and 5 minutes on a canoe from Cau Da Harbor.

“Mieu” literally means “Temple” in Vietnamese, and it refers to a little ancient holy shrine built on the Southern side in homage to the groundbreakers and the God of Whale.

Culture-wise, each Spring witnesses a traditional festival praying for peace and prosperity in the aqua-life of native fishermen and it attracts a huge number of visitors and participants from neighboring islands as well.

What to do in Mieu Island?

The two best things to do here belong to Bai Tranh Beach and Tri Nguyen Aquarium. While Bai Tranh is a real “heaven on Earth” where sunrise and sunset bring in a long-lasting memory for your beach vacation, Tri Nguyen Aquarium is a must-see man-made attraction filled with a “galore” of the marine ecosystem.

Tri Nguyen Aquarium was built in the 70s of the 20th century. The place comes in a gigantic sailing boat shape made out of stone. My own trip to Tri Nguyen lasted for hours as it was so interesting to leave. The place takes you closer to hundreds of marine fauna species specifically belonging to the Bay of Nha Trang.

How did I visit the four islands when in Nha Trang?

You have two options: either visit all four islands on your own with a rental canoe for the entire day, or opt for submitting a booking with one of the best rated Nha Trang Four island day trips with Inspitrip just like I did.

If you plan to do it yourself, then consider renting a private canoe. It can come around VND 2 million (~$86.14) for 15 seats within 8 hours. In this case, you may negotiate with the boat dealer in customizing the itinerary of your own.

On our tour date with Inspitrip, we got picked up at 8:30 in the morning and started exploring Mun Island first from Cau Da Harbor. We spent 3 hours on the Mun Island for both snorkeling and cocktail time on the floating bar.

At noontime, we moved on to Mot Island for a tasty seafood feast and arrived at Tam Island for a fun photo time while my friends tried out kayaking and paragliding.

Later in the afternoon around 15:00, we visited Tri Nguyen Aquarium for another 2 hours before heading back to the mainland for dinner. 4 islands Nha Trang island tour- Funky Monkey

Joining tours isn’t my favorite thing to do, but sometimes I need to admit that I have no other choice but to join one if I wanna spare some money. Visiting several islands on my own wouldn’t be possible anyway, so as I have a spare day, I did the 4 islands Nha Trang island tour , with Funky Monkey . This was the cheapest tour I found but beware that prices might vary from tour agent to tour agent. I ended up paying more than I was supposed to… The fair price is 350K dong.

But, I had this extra day in Nha Trang and wasn’t feeling like laying at the beach full day cause I had already visited other things around like the major attractions , Hon Noi and Diep Son . I joined this Nha Trang island tour and I have spent all day from island to island. The pick-up time is at 8.30 am and we return to land at about 5 pm.

Tri Nguyen Aquarium

Our first stop during this Nha Trang island tour is the Tri Nguyen Aquarium. There is an entrance fee of 170K to go inside. I didn’t visit as I thought it was not worth the visit. Other people stayed outside too. The thing is that there is nothing to do around while waiting for people to come back. So, this first stop was very boring and I was already regretting lining up for this tour.

The second stop is Mot island. Here you have the option to go on a sea walker tour where you dress in some kind of underwater astronaut suite and the rest I don’t know cause I didn’t join this tour. It was very expensive! Only three people did it. My tour group was basically Vietnamese, a dutch-Vietnamese family, and a small group of Malaysian youngsters. I didn’t meet or talked to anyone which made this trip even more boring. Usually, this kind of trip is cool to meet other foreigners, but this wasn’t the case. While those three people joined the sea walker tour, the rest of us went to a nearby snorkeling spot . Now, finally something worthy! Here I was able to snorkel around as the tour includes snorkeling gear. I love snorkeling and this was a good spot. I could spend hours at sea watching the fishies but we didn’t stay here very long.

Lunchtime- Coral Island

After Mot island, we went to Coral island just to have lunch. The lunch was in the boat that turned its benches into a giant table and we all had lunch together. We didn’t step out of the boat during lunchtime, but I can state that this was the funnier part of this Nha Trang island tour. The guides were funny and amusing. They made us have a great time with their performances and dancing challenges. It was really fun and everybody was laughing and enjoying it. After eating we had a “cocktail” moment in the water. Everybody jumped into the water and was drinking just there to the sound of loud music that incited some underwater dance. This was the highlight of the tour to me: the lunch break, and was the thing that made me not so frustrated by joining this Nha Trang island tour. I’m sure this is fun in a group, but this is not the best activity for a solo traveler, I would say.

Tranh Mini beach

After the lunch break, we headed to the last stop: Tranh Mini beach. To my surprise, we needed to pay an entrance fee to access the beach… the beach is super crowded. There are a lot of screams, laughs, yells at this beach. People seem to have never touched the sea ever… those Vietnamese were so euphoric with this beach that it was very funny to sit and watch them. There were some water sports I could do, but I preferred to watch. I regret not doing the parasailing. It seemed a lot of fun. I would have done it if I weren’t alone… Do you also feel like sometimes you don’t do certain things because you are alone?

I also enjoyed very much watching the others fall over and over again while trying to step on this kind of board that is water controlled and is a lot of fun to watch inexperienced people trying to get up on their feet with that gear on.

Therefore, I actually enjoyed this last stop. I had lots of laughs at others’ misery haha. It was fun to be there and watch how people from a very different culture behave. After this, supposedly relaxing break, we headed to land. The Nhat Trang island tour finished at about 5 pm.

The rest of the day I walked on the streets and understood a bit better why foreigners say Nha Trang is a “shit hole”.

Yes, there are many Russians in Nha Trang, as well as Chinese. In fact, the place feels taken by the Russians and Chinese too, and many Vietnamese complain about that. That’s why foreigners say Nha Trang doesn’t feel like Vietnam anymore. Well, but if you dare to step out of the city center you will see normal Vietnam. Just avoid the places where everyone else is going. If you keep in the center be prepared to overpay pretty much everything. I bought the most expensive water bottle ever from a woman that managed to fool me by pretending that I didn’t understand her very well. I also paid a lot of money for the worst Banh Mi ever. The bread was so hard that I couldn’t bite it. I argued with the lady but she pretended she didn’t understand… I never felt so much like a stupid foreigner like I felt on the most touristy streets of Nha Trang. This is why I prefer less touristy places.

Hon Mun Island

Hon Mun is not the biggest but the most romantic island in Nha Trang. Hon Mun is located 10km from the Cau Da Dock. Once you’ve enjoyed the many activities the city and its beaches offer, head out to one (or more) of the adjacent islands. The marine life around Nha Trang is among the country’s most bio-diverse − great for diving and snorkelling.

It’s named Hon Mun (which means ‘Black Island’) because of its unique ebony-hued rocks and cliffs, which are home to many birds. Its location, near to the warm currents around the equator, means hundreds of different types of corals and tropical sea creatures are found in its waters. In fact, Hon Mun Island was the first marine bio-diverse area to be recognized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). That’s why it’s a favourite among not only tourists, but oceanographers and marine researchers, too. Marvel at the island’s coral forests from a glass-bottomed boat. Or take the plunge and sign up for a driving course.

HON NOI (Yen Island)

This relatively unknown island paradise can only be visited for a day tour. As daily visitor numbers are limited to 100, there’s only one-morning boat trip per day. Before getting on board, you’ll be asked to sanitize your shoes, to protect the island’s ecosystem. Once there, you’ll be blown away by the island’s beauty. A highlight is the sand bar that separates two sides of the sea. The two sides differ in colour and temperature, and there are beach huts and loungers strategically placed so you can easily hop between the two beaches. Hon Noi is also known as a ‘Bird’s Nest Island’ because of the number of swiftlets that breed there.

The biggest tourist attraction on this popular island, which is home to about 3 000 locals, is the Tri Nguyen aquarium. Beside Bai Soi (Bai San) Beach, it looks like a towering pirate ship. It has several floors to explore, with fish lakes at ground level, a restaurant on the third floor, and a viewing deck up top. Admire the many species of fish, feed the turtles or go fishing. While the Bai Soi beach nearby is somewhat pebbly, people like to camp or barbeque here. To relax on softer sand, head to Bai Tranh beach.

DIEP SON ISLAND

About 60km from Nha Trang, in Van Phong Bay, lies a mini-archipelago of little islands seemingly strung together, known as ‘the road that floats in the middle of the ocean’. The sandy path that connects these three islets only emerges when the tide is low, so walking between them can be quite thrilling. For white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters, Diep Son is a dream.

Further out, some 80km away, you’ll find Bình Hưng island. It’s a small island of about 2km 2 , and it’s a hidden gem. Beaches here include Bai Tien, Bai Chuoi and Bai Kinh. Bai Nuoc Ngot (Fresh Water Beach) is unusual because it features both seawater and freshwater, which comes from a mountain stream via a cave. The local communities are fishers and lobster farmers. Naturally, this place is a paradise for seafood lovers. For an experience to remember, overnight on a floating raft house.

In the same bay, another island with beautiful, unspoilt beaches and delicious, affordable seafood is Binh Ba, also called ‘lobster island’. This larger island has several uncrowded beaches, including Bai Chuong, Bai Nom, and Bai Nha Cu. Hire a motorbike to explore the beaches and sites. One of these is Nam Hai Tomb (Tomb of Whale). Built at the end of the eighteenth century, it features an impressive whale skeleton. Fishermen have long carried out rituals here.
