2023 Tour Championship final results: Prize money payout, leaderboard and how much each golfer won

2023 tour championship third round leaderboard

The 2023 Tour Championship final leaderboard is headed by winner Viktor Hovland , who prevailed by a shot to win the FedEx Cup at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga.

Starting the final round well ahead of the field, Hovland still needed to play great golf to pick up the win. Xander Schauffele challenged Hovland with a front-nine 31, but Hovland kept his cool and made several timely putts to get to the trophy, his second in a row and third in 2023.

After starting the tournament on 8 under par, Hovland shot a 72-hole score of 19-under 261 to win on 27-under total and won by five over Schauffele, who closed with 62 and was 19-under total for the week.

Schauffele finished in second place, well ahead of Wyndham Clark , who ended up in solo third place, a shot ahead of Rory McIlroy .

Hovland won the $18,000,000 winner's share of the $59,725,000 purse.

Tour Championship recap notes

Hovland and Schauffele had the lowest 72-hole score in the event without starting strokes, meaning they split the 44.1 first-place Official World Golf Ranking points with the win in the 72-hole stroke-play championship, which will boost their individual world ranking.

Hovland earns a five-year PGA Tour exemption for winning the FedEx Cup.

A total of 30 players finished the tournament in the 48th event of the 2020-2023 PGA Tour season after a 36-hole cut was not made.

The 2022-2023 PGA Tour FedEx Cup schedule is over, but the FedEx Fall starts in two weeks with the Fortinet Championship in California.

2023 Tour Championship: Third round suspended due to inclement weather

Third round play was suspended at the Tour Championship.

Update: Play resumed at 6:43 p.m. ET.

As expected, the third round of the Tour Championship at East Lake has been hot. For the second time in the past three events, heat indexes have soared into the triple digits.

Hotlanta is living up to its name.

What wasn’t expected was a weather impact to Saturday’s play in the PGA Tour’s playoff finale.

But just before tournament leader Viktor Hovland was to pull the trigger on the 12th tee, tournament officials waived him off and the horn blew at 5:28 p.m. ET suspending play due to a “dangerous weather situation.”

Much to the bewilderment of the CBS broadcast crew and PGA Tour officials, a storm cell had popped up just north of the golf course, tracking south, directly for the eight groups still to complete their third rounds.

The PGA Tour’s Saturday weather report listed only a 15-20% chance of rain between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. On the CBS broadcast, Jim Nantz said there was no indication the round would be interrupted by weather during CBS’s morning call with the Tour.

After two birdies on the front nine, Hovland had opened up a four-shot lead on Xander Schauffele in solo second. The next players were six shots off Hovland’s lead at 12 under, including World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler , and overnight co-leader Collin Morikawa.

It had not yet begun to rain at East Lake at the time of the delay.

Play was suspended twice during the third round at the 2022 Tour Championship , leading to several players completing their third rounds on Sunday morning.

However, PGA Tour official Mark Dusbabek said on the CBS broadcast that is not expected to happen on Saturday.

“We just wanted to get [everyone] off, get em to safety, let this thing bypass us and get out and play as soon as we can here,” Dusbabek said, adding the PGA Tour’s meteorologist would “turn ’em around as soon as possible.”

Sunset Saturday in Atlanta is 8:11 p.m. local time.

Play resumed at 6:43 p.m. after a total delay of one hour and 15 minutes.

Rain could continue to play a factor into Sunday, with the Tour’s forecast calling for isolated to scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. The highest chance for rain and thunderstorms is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the possibilities for heavy downpours and 35 mph wind gusts. That would be right about when the champion is expected to lift the FedEx Cup.

Scottie Scheffler extends dominant run with RBC Heritage win

Scheffler followed up his masters win with a victory at the rbc heritage, by doug ferguson | the associated press • published april 22, 2024.

A  Masters green jacket  wasn't enough for Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler was running on emotional fumes fresh off his four-shot victory at Augusta National, but full of purpose that more than made up for his lack of preparation for the RBC Heritage. The result not only was similar, it has come to be expected.

📺 24/7 Chicago news stream: Watch NBC 5 free wherever you are

He rarely missed a shot. He gave little hope to those chasing him. And he walked away from Harbour Town on Monday morning with another victory that extended a dominance not seen since the peak years of Tiger Woods .

“I didn't show up here just to have some sort of ceremony and have people tell me congratulations. I came here with a purpose,” Scheffler said after polishing off a 3-under 68 for a three-shot victory.

Victory was inevitable — Scheffler  had a five-shot lead with three holes to play  when the final round, delayed 2 1/2 hours because of storms Sunday afternoon, was suspended by darkness. It's starting to feel that way whenever he plays.

Scheffler now has won four of his last five starts, the exception a runner-up finish in the Houston Open when he misread a 5-foot birdie putt that would have forced a playoff.

He considered this one of the tougher wins because it followed the Masters.

“Coming off the high last week to going into here, not really with a ton of energy, not really with a ton of prep work,” Scheffler said. “I think it's underrated how difficult it is to do the stuff that Tiger was doing, and win like every single week. It takes a lot out of you emotionally and physically, especially major championships.”

Turns out he had plenty left in the tank.

Scheffler now has 40 consecutive rounds at par or better, a streak that began at East Lake in the Tour Championship last August. His position at No. 1 in the world is so great that he became the first player since Woods to crack the 15-point average mark.

“It's very impressive,” Patrick Cantlay said. “He's played great for a while now — a number of years — and it seems like he is playing the best golf of his life right now.”

The only competition Monday morning was for second place.

The storms brought cold weather and a strong wind. Scheffler missed the 18th green to the right, chipped safely to 18 feet and two-putted for bogey. That ended his streak of 68 consecutive holes with no worse than a par.

“I hit driver, 3-wood into there,” Scheffler said. “So I’m going to count that as a par for myself.”

Sahith Theegala birdied the 16th hole, saved par from a bunker on the par-3 17th and closed with a par for a 68 to finish alone in second, a difference of $666,667 than if he had finished in a three-way tie for second.

“Even though I finished second, I felt like I was never really in it to win there. Scottie was just so far ahead,” Theegala said.

Cantlay (68) and U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, who finished his 65 on Sunday before the storms, tied for third.

Scheffler finished at 19-under 265 and earned $3.2 million. That brings his season total to nearly $18.7 million in just 10 tournaments.

The good news for the rest of the PGA Tour : Scheffler won't show up again until the PGA Championship the third week in May. He headed back home to Dallas, where his wife his expecting their first child sometime next week.

Scheffler was staked to a one-shot lead starting the final round and chipped in for eagle on the second hole. Before long, he had a four-shot lead and never showed any signs of coming back.

“I got off to a good start yesterday and kind of just kept it going from there,” he said.

The week wasn't the smoothest start for Scheffler, who was six shots behind after an opening round that included a shank from the bunker on the third hole for a double bogey. He didn't drop another shot the rest of the week until it no longer mattered.

About the only thing that went wrong for Scheffler was the celebration. His caddie, Ted Scott, went for an elevated chest pump and Scheffler just laughed at him without moving.

About 400 spectators waiting along the 18th fairway were allowed to fill a corner of the grandstands as Scheffler approached. He turned and waved his cap toward them after tapping in his final stroke of another masterpiece.

Such is Scheffler's dominance that his last seven victories have come against fields that had at least eight of the top 10 players in the world.

The last player to run off a stretch like this — four wins and a runner-up — was Woods at the end of 2007. Woods then won his first three PGA Tour starts (and one on the European Tour) to start 2008.

Scheffler now has 10 titles on the PGA Tour in a span of 51 tournaments dating to his first victory in the 2022 Phoenix Open.

“It does not get boring,” Scheffler said. “I think hitting a really well-struck golf shot close to the pin is like an addicting feeling.”

From a bachelor trip 'reset' to patton kizzire's comfortable lead, here are 5 things to know from the 2024 procore championship, share this article.

2023 tour championship third round leaderboard

While most eyes were glued to the Solheim Cup in Virginia, PGA Tour action continued Saturday at the 2024 Procore Championship across Silverado Resort’s North Course. And with 18 holes left to play in Napa, California, the leaderboard is cluttered behind the man up top.

Patton Kizzire, who entered Moving Day in pole position, is alone in first at 18 under after a 5-under 67.

David Lipsky is his closest pursuer at 14 under, while Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes — both players are members of the International Team for the Presidents Cup — are part of a group of four at 13 under, five back.

“(I) made some really nice putts coming down the stretch and hung in there and kept myself in it and that’s all I can ask for when I don’t have my A-game from tee to green.” Lipsky said of his day.

Defending champion Sahith Theegala is 12 under through 54 holes and is tied for seventh.

If you missed any of Saturday’s action, no worries, we have you covered. Here are five things to know from the third round of the Procore Championship.

Kizzire was in the driver’s seat entering Saturday’s third round and got off to a hot start with three straight birdies on Nos. 3-5. Even better, he chipped in for a clutch par on the seventh after missing the green with his tee shot and second.

After making the turn with a 3-under 32, Kizzire three-putted for bogey on the 10th but got the shot right back with a lengthy birdie make on the 11th.

Two birdies later (Nos. 15 and 17), Kizzire signed for his 67 that was aided heavily by his putter — he ranked second on Saturday in SG: Putting.

“This (course) is very similar to Sony,” he said. “This course has a little more undulation on the greens. The greens were fantastic. The maintenance crew has done a fantastic job, the agronomy team has done a fantastic job. They’re rolling really nice. I’m seeing the greens well and putting it on the line, it’s holding. This is a golf course I really enjoy playing and I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

Kizzire, who entered the week with three missed cuts in his previous five starts to end the season, hasn’t won since the 2018 Sony Open in Hawaii.

Mackenzie Hughes is dialed for Presidents Cup

In a few weeks, Mackenzie Hughes will head to his home country of Canada for the Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal Golf Club. Hughes is one of the 12 members of the International Team, and he’s getting dialed in for the biennial event by contending at the Procore.

After opening with a 2-under 70 on Thursday, Hughes has now posted rounds of 67-66 and is tied for third, five back of the lead.

The Canadian, who hasn’t won since the 2022 Sanderson Farms, made three birdies on each half of Silverado Resort’s North Course, gaining nearly 3½ strokes with his iron play (first in Strokes Gained: Approach). If his putter cooperated a bit better, his round could have been special.

“I actually — I had a lot of chances,” he said. “I felt like — I’m not sure what my strokes gained approach would have been today, but I felt I had a lot of close looks that I wasn’t able to convert.”

If the flat-stick heats up on Sunday, watch out for Hughes.

Corey Conners continues to roll

2023 tour championship third round leaderboard

Corey Conners of Canada hits his tee shot on the seventh hole during the third round of the Procore Championship 2024 at Silverado Resort on September 14, 2024 in Napa, California. (Photo by Jed Jacobsohn/Getty Images)

Like Hughes, Conners will don the black and gold at the Presidents Cup for the International Team — Hughes, Conners and Taylor Pendrith are the three Canadians playing at Royal Montreal.

In 22 starts this season, Conners never missed a weekend. That’s a lot of money, but what he failed to do was win.

That could change Sunday with a special round as he sits at 13 under in a tie for third thanks to rounds of 73-64-66.

After making the turn with a 2-under 33, Conners made four birdies on his final six holes to catapult up the leaderboard.

Like it has been all year, Conners’ tee-to-green game was outstanding on Day 3 — he ranked fourth in both SG: Off the Tee and Approach.

International Team captain Mike Weir must like what he’s seeing from Hughes and Conners.

Wilson Furr credits bachelor trip for ‘reset’

2023 tour championship third round leaderboard

Wilson Furr of the United States hits his tee shot on the 18th hole during the third round of the Procore Championship 2024 at Silverado Resort on September 14, 2024 in Napa, California. (Photo by Jed Jacobsohn/Getty Images)

It was a tough 2023-24 Tour season for Furr. In 18 starts, he made just four cuts with his best finish coming at the Texas Children’s Houston Open where he tied for 36th.

But over the break — his last Tour start came at the Wyndham Championship, the final event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs — Furr went on his bachelor trip and credited it for a much-needed reset.

“I had my bachelor trip over the break and I felt like it was an amazing reset,” Furr said. “We went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, went fly fishing and exploring Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Yeah, I think that was about as good a reset as I could ask for. Got to see a lot of my friends I hadn’t seen in a long time.”

And how’d the fishing go?

“Sick. We crushed it.”

He also crushed it on the course Saturday, firing a 8-under 64. Furr made five birdies on the front nine before making the turn and adding another on the 16th. He also made an eagle at the par-5 15th after his 216-yard approach shot finished less than three feet from the hole.

Furr will enter the final round in a tie for seventh at 12 under, six back of the lead.

Masters champion and world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler scored a 5-under 66 at the second round of the PGA Championship on Friday after being arrested on his way to the tournament earlier in the day for not following police orders during the investigation of a pedestrian fatality.

Scheffler was booked by police at 7:28 a.m. ET, released before 9 a.m. and arrived at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, at 9:12 a.m. He proceeded to warm up and began his second round at his scheduled 10:08 a.m. tee time.

On the back nine, Scheffler had three birdies and saved par on his final hole to close out with a 5-under.

"I did spend some time stretching in a jail cell," Scheffler said at the podium after his second round.

After going 4-under in Thursday's opening round , Scheffler entered the clubhouse tied for third at 9-under. Collin Morikawa sat atop the leaderboard at 11-under after shooting a 6-under on Friday.

Scheffler is a two-time major champion with wins at the Masters in 2022 and 2024. He is just over a month removed from his latest triumph at Augusta and also welcomed his first child with his wife last week.

Scottie Scheffler arrest timeline

Police said a pedestrian had been struck by a shuttle bus while crossing the road in a lane that was dedicated to tournament traffic. The man, John Mills of Louisville , was pronounced dead at the scene at about 5:09 a.m.

Scheffler was on his way to Valhalla a little after 6 a.m. when he drove past a police officer in an SUV with markings on the door indicating it was a PGA Championship vehicle, according to ESPN's Jeff Darlington . An officer told Scheffler to stop and attached himself to Scheffler's car before the golfer drove about 10 yards and stopped. Police pulled Scheffler out of the car, pushed him up against the car and immediately placed him in handcuffs, according to Darlington.

An incident report filed by the Louisville Metro Police Department said an officer, identified as Detective Gillis, stopped Scheffler and attempted to give him instructions after the golfer tried driving around the traffic following the fatal incident. The report says Scheffler "refused to comply" and accelerated while dragging Detective Gillis to the ground. Detective Gillis was transported to the hospital after suffering "pain, swelling and abrasions to his left wrist and knee" and his "uniform pants, valued at approximately $80 were damaged beyond repair," according to the report.

Court records show that Scheffler was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic.

Scottie Scheffler mugshot

“This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers,” Scheffler said in a statement released before his round. “It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I'm hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.

“Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective.”

After his round, Scheffler said, "my situation will be handled."

Scheffler's arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, according to court records.

"Our primary concern today remains with the family of John Mills, who lost his life in a tragic accident early this morning while reporting to work," the PGA of America said in a statement to NBC News. "As it relates to the incident involving Scottie Scheffler, we are fully cooperating as local authorities review what took place. While the legal process plays out, questions should be directed to Scheffler’s attorney or local authorities."

Jon Rahm victorious at LIV Golf Chicago earning $22 million payday for winning event, season-long race

Rahm beats out joaquin niemann as the top liv golf player in 2024.

LIV Golf: Chicago - Day 3

Jon Rahm did just enough Sunday to hold off Joaquin Niemann and Sergio Garcia for the victory at LIV Golf Chicago, the final individual event on the schedule this year. The win ends a winding year for Rahm in which he was great at LIV Golf events but not so great at major championships.

Rahm shot 66 in the final round and fended off some pressure from Niemann, who matched the Spaniard's score, late in the day. The ultimate champion closed par-birdie-par to get to 11 under for the week, edging Niemann and Sergio Garcia by three shots.

The victory in Chicago netted Rahm $4 million, but the spoils did not stop there. After battling Niemann for the season-long points crown, Rahm took an $18 million first prize for winning that title.

"Today was a special day in many ways," Rahm said. "I woke up really nervous today, as I thought I would. And even warming up, I told [caddie Adam Hayes], 'Man, I'm nervous.'

"But then I started thinking, playing with Sergio and Brooks [Koepka]. Last time both me and Sergio played good, it was a good Sunday in Valderrama; Sergio ended up winning. Last time I went up against Brooks, he ended up beating me. I wanted to hopefully do a really good showing this time and maybe get it over the line.

"Just really happy to have played as good as I did. To go bogey free on the weekend, one bogey all tournament, it's quite spectacular. Very proud of how I played today and very proud of that putt on 17, which made 18 a lot easier."

The putt on 17 was a long birdie Rahm made to get to 11 under and take a three-shot lead to the final hole.

Huge fist pump from Rahmbo! 👊 He takes a 3 shot lead with 1 hole to play 👏 #LIVGolf @LegionXIIIgc pic.twitter.com/ddflfE3ekM — LIV Golf (@livgolf_league) September 15, 2024

The Chicago win is Rahm's second for LIV Golf this year. It also marked his 12th top 10 in as many LIV Golf events he's finished (Rahm withdrew from LIV Golf Houston). Add it all up, and he narrowly beat out Niemann, who also claimed two individual titles, as the No. 1 player on that tour in 2024.

Rahm joins Talor Gooch (2023) and Dustin Johnson (2022) as individual champions across LIV Golf's first three years of existence. This season was Rahm's first as part of the league.

Rahm is not done yet in 2024, however. His squad, Legion XIII, will play in the team championship next week at LIV Golf Dallas. Rahm then plans to fly to Europe to play in a handful of DP World Tour events that will help him keep his membership in that lague while ensuring he remains eligible or the 2025 Ryder Cup.

"I'm flying home tonight because we know the baby can come anytime," said Rahm, whose wife, Kelley, is about to have their third child. "I'm going to enjoy it on the flight, and being able to sleep in my own bed next to my wife tonight is all I need. But yeah, I'll definitely enjoy it Monday morning maybe while seeing some of my friends at home and just with the family.

"I think the biggest celebration I can have is the fact that I get to drive my kids to school tomorrow morning, and I think that's going to be a joy more than anything else."

David Lipsky shoots 65 to take lead at Procore Championship in FedExCup Fall opener

Daily Wrap Up

Change Text Size

NAPA, Calif. (AP) — David Lipsky shot a 7-under 65 on Thursday at Silverado Country Club to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Procore Championship.

Winless in 104 events since joining the PGA TOUR in 2022, Lipsky went out with the early groups and had eight birdies with one bogey to kick off the FedExCup Fall series at the picturesque course in the heart of Napa Valley wine country.

After missing the cut in his three previous tournaments, Lipsky flew from Las Vegas to Arizona to reunite with his college coach at Northwestern to get his focus back. He also spent time playing with some of the Northwestern players, which helped him relax.

“Just being around those guys and seeing how carefree they are, not knowing what’s coming for them yet, it’s sort of nice to see that,” Lipsky said. “I was almost energized by their youthfulness.”

Patton Kizzire and Mark Hubbard were a stroke back. Kizzire started on the back nine and made a late run with three consecutive birdies to move into a tie for first. A bogey on No. 8 dropped him back.

“There was a lot of good stuff out there today,” Kizzire said. “I stayed patient and just went through my routines and played well, one shot at a time. I’ve really bee working hard on my mental game and I think that allowed me to rinse and repeat and reset and keep playing.”

Mark Hubbard was at 67. He had nine birdies but fell off the pace with a bogey and triple bogey on back-to-back holes.

Kevin Dougherty also was in the group at 67. He had two eagles and ended his afternoon by holing out from 41 yards on the 383-yard, par-4 18th.

Defending champion Sahith Theegala had to scramble for much of his round of 69.

Wyndham Clark, who won the U.S. Open in 2023 and the AT&T at Pebble Beach in February, had a 70.

Max Homa shot 71. The two-time tournament champion and a captain’s pick for the Presidents Cup in two weeks had two birdies and overcame a bogey on the par-4 first.

Stewart Cink, the 2020 winner, also opened with a 71. He won The Ally Challenge last month for his first PGA TOUR Champions title.

Three players from the Presidents Cup International team had mix results. Min Woo Lee shot 68, Mackenzie Hughes 69 and Corey Conners 73. International team captain Mike Weir also had a 69.

Lipsky was a little shaky off the tee for much of the afternoon but made up for it with steady iron play that left him in great shape on the greens. He had one-putts on 11 holes and was in position for a bigger day but left five putts short.

David Lipsky buries birdie putt at Procore

Lipsky’s only real problem came on the par-4 ninth when his approach sailed into a bunker just shy of the green. He bounced back nicely with five birdies on his back nine. After missing a 19-foot putt for birdie on No. 17, Lipsky ended his day with a 12-foot par putt.

That was a big change from last year when Lipsky tied for 30th at Silverado when he drove the ball well but had uneven success on the greens.

“Sometimes you have to realize golf can be fun, and I think I sort of forgot that along the way as I’m grinding it out,” Lipsky said. “You’ve got to put things in perspective, take a step back. Sort of did that and it seems like it’s working out.”

Laird stayed close after beginning his day with a bogey on the par-4 10th. The Scot got out of the sand nicely but pushed his par putt past the hole.

Homa continued to have issues off the tee and missed birdie putts on his final four holes.
