About Whey Jennings:

Country singer-songwriter Whey Jennings was born into one of country music’s most iconic family names, first emerging in 2012 as another naturally gifted singer from the Jennings tribe. With large boots to fill, the young Nashville recording artist and singer-songwriter for Dirt Rock Empire, with a booming baritone voice as big as Texas, finds himself with a few expectations to live up to. Seeking to establish his own musical legacy as one of the few remaining torch-bearing country traditionalists out there, Whey can instantly take his fans back to a time and sound his Grandfather Waylon and Grandmother Jessi gave birth to in the 70’s, even with his own songs.

With three studio recorded EP releases under his belt, 2020’s Gypsy Soul, 2022’s If It Wasn’t for The Sinnin’ , and 2023’s Just Before The Dawn , Jennings is now preparing for his magnum opus of songs, his first full length album, the highly anticipated Jekyll & Hyde, due out August 23, 2024. Many of Whey’s songs reveal stories of how he has come to terms with a checkered past of too much partying, led by a drug-fueled lifestyle, but knowing he needed to make a change. Musical stories about struggles, addiction, finding sobriety, and redemption through faith in God, family and his friends. Interjecting his own modern-day approach to songwriting and storytelling, while remaining a little rough around the edges, Whey’s unpolished grit and honest demeanor defines his sound, with musical roots that run as deep as his Jennings family name would imply.

“Out of 43 years on this earth I lived 38 of them in the darkness,” Whey recalled. “I was pretty well a functioning drug addict and an alcoholic. I found the light four years ago by the grace of God. I have a beautiful wife who has also stood by my side, and six beautiful children who continue to love me. A wonderful Manager who I call my Momager , Mrs. Tammy Carolus. I’ve decided to dedicate this LP and my life to them.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 20, 2023) – Country singer-songwriter Whey Jennings is readying for the release of his new EP, Just Before The Dawn , due out Friday, September 22 by Dirt Rock Empire . Jennings finds salvation and redemption on his critically acclaimed third EP, delivering his most personal, self-reflective and storyful set of songs he’s released to date. With next level production by Music Producer Gary Carter and music videos to accompany the songs, Jennings is proudly carrying the torch of the traditional country sound – which his pioneer Grandparents started – confidently into the future.

Whey stopped by the WSM Radio studio on Sept. 12 for a chat on Coffee, Country & Cody , where he gave fans a sneak peak of the music video for “Just Before The Dawn” on Circle All Access . Jennings also appeared live on RFD-TV’s Market Day Report to talk about the new music and perform “Just Before The Dawn.” Plus, RFDtv.com exclusively premiered the music video, which is also scheduled to roll out on The Heartland Network , The Country Network beginning Sept. 25, and AIM Country Network on Sept. 22 as part of their Your New Favorite Song series.

Jennings has been teasing music fans throughout 2023 with his self-storytelling song releases from the new EP. There’s the rowdy honky-tonk rocker of “Wild Child,” the smooth mellow traditional flow of “Old Country Song” (premiered by Taste of Country ), and the cowboy styled crooning on “Daredevil” (premiered by Cowboy Lifestyle Network ) which gives the EP depth. However, it’s the raw emotional plea he makes on the title track “Just Before The Dawn,” by far Jennings most powerful song he’s recorded to date.

“At the end of the day, I want to be able to change people’s lives with my music,” Whey said. “This EP gave me the ability to show people that you can change your life, with my life’s stories as the examples. I want to change lives, and that is what I hope for the most with this EP.”

Exclusive Premiere: Whey Jennings “Farm Life”

Being born a Jennings comes with the weight of an era in Country music on your shoulders, but Whey Jennings carries it like a feather.  The grandson of the legendary Waylon Jennings has the same outlaw blood running through his veins ever since he was a child (heck he even took the microphone his grandmother Jessi Colter put down after she walked off stage to walk onto that stage himself to sing “ Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys’ with Grandpa Waylon soon joining him).  Now, while honoring his family’s history and making a name of his own, Whey is set to release his new album If It Wasn’t for the Sinnin’, his third under Dirt Rock Empire. Today he releases his latest single “Farm Life” and official lyric video exclusively premiering with The Country Note. 

Inspired by the blue collar, working class heartbeat of America and his own experience, Whey shares how “Farm Life” came to be:

“I worked on a cotton farm in West Texas for 10 years so farming is near and dear to my heart. A buddy of mine named Brent Adam’s does a podcast for farm life and asked me to do a theme song for it and when I started to write it all my years of experience on the cotton farm came rushing back. Thanks goes out to Bryan and Keven Bentley for giving me a job many years ago and making me into the man I am today. “

His family history held a connection to the venue where the single was record as well: “ This song was recorded at Ronnie Milsap’s studio on music row in Nashville, Tennessee in March. It was amazing to feel the vibes there.  My grandfather Waylon even recorded there. Glad to carry on that family tradition.”

“This whole album was a pleasure to record at Ronnie’s Place Studio on Music Row,” says Whey. “The session players were top notch and I want to thank each and every one of them for making these songs come alive. It’s an experience I won’t forget and I can’t wait to get back in there with the guys and make another album!”

Nashville Recording Artist, Sam Lowe, is a Country Music Singer/Songwriter from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. He moved to Nashville at the age of 22 and has opened for numerous country music artists including Billy Dean. Since being back home Sam has focused on writing new material; he will be releasing two of those new singles very soon and they'll be available on all major music platforms. Most recently Sam has opened for Whey Jennings. He's now on tour himself, and you can keep up with his show schedule below.
