The Division of Infectious Diseases provides a Travel and Immunization Service to ensure an international travel experience that is safe from the threat of infectious disease. The service includes appropriate information, counseling, administration and documentation of vaccines. Anyone in the community can take advantage of this valuable service before going abroad. We have two convenient locations in Worcester and Leominster .

• Complete travel counseling
• Most immunizations given same day
• Needed prescriptions sent to pharmacy

Parking: Metered parking is available in the Backbay neighborhood. Be sure to carefully read street signs and give yourself extra time to find parking because depending on the time or day, spaces may be limited.

Public Transit: The Green and Orange lines are the best ways to reach the clinic. On either, exit at Dartmouth Street and head north. Turn left at Beacon, our clinic will be on your right.

Travel by Subway - Take the T Lechmere station. Go out by the Cambridge Street exit. Turn right and our office is eight blocks up the road, at the corner of Warren Street and Cambridge Street. An easy landmark is the train crossing, one block before our office.

Travel by Bus - The 69 bus runs the whole length of Cambridge Street, from Harvard Square to Lechmere T station. The bus stops outside our office. An easy landmark is Giro Photographic Studio, which occupies the ground floor below our office.

Parking - A car park (bring two quarters) is behind our building, in Warren Street off Cambridge Street.

Directions - We are located inside the Pearl Building. While on Boylston, the street will curve into Jackson Street. Stay right and take your first right onto Beck Lane. The Entrance is on Jackson Street. Clients will see the address 335 in big numbers first but we are attached to the same building. The clinic is located on the fourth floor. Clients should enter suite 400. There are additional offices inside, so find suite 3 within suite 400.

I visited a few times getting prepared for a trip to Tanzania. They had nearly all of the vaccines I needed on hand (hepatitis A, typhoid, cholera, and a polio booster). The only one they didn't have ready to go was yellow fever, which required taking part in a study to get. Karen (the nurse) was also helpful getting me set up to get the yellow fever vaccine in Cambridge a couple of weeks later. The meds were all fairly priced and I felt that they had great customer service. Thanks!

I'm traveling to India in a few weeks and needed to get vaccinated against several unpleasant/dangerous diseases. Typhoid, malaria, and Japanese encephalitis vaccines aren't ready available at most primary care offices so enter Passport Health. THE PROS: they have most unusual vaccines in stock (along with a variety of over the counter meds,) they have Saturday hours, offer several locations, and turn around time was only 4 days to secure an appointment. THE CONS: they do not bill insurance, an office visit is $65.00 ( fill out your health history online prior to your visit & they discount to $55.00) for the most part, they are not experts in tropical disease (they get current recommendations from the CDC and other online sources) THE BIG NEGATIVE: if they have the vaccine in stock they WILL NOT write a script for elsewhere. Typhoid vaccine was $60 less at Walgreens (which does stock it in pill form). I would have had to book another visit with my primary to get a script for Walgreens but elected to have the Typhoid shot at Passport Health for $140.00. My nurse told me that prices on other meds were in line with Walgreens. I suppose the most disturbing part of my visit was being told by my nurse that I was more informed about prophylactic meds than many of staff that worked at the clinic. However, she was great and readily answered my questions. I'll use them again for the convenience factor, but be mindful to use common sense (and the same readily available information they use) to choose what vaccines you elect prior to any trip. Falling ill or becoming infected can still occur even if vaccinated and what you need (as opposed to the CDC and the clinic's recommendations) really depends on a number of factors including the exact area of travel and time of year.

Appointment charges include professional fees (for physician consultation) and may include immunization charges. Insurance typically covers 100% of the cost of immunizations, with some exceptions. 

Since these are preventive services, some health insurance plans do not cover the costs. We provide receipts to support claim reimbursement from a third party such as your insurance company. However, we strongly recommend checking with your insurance company prior to your appointment to confirm your plan covers travel medicine.
