Snapchat launching new feature to track location history: Know what it is and how it works

S napchat is rolling out a new feature called "Footsteps" to iOS users, with plans to extend it to Android users soon, according to a report by TechCrunch. This feature, previously only available to Snapchat+ subscribers, lets users track their travel history on the Snap Map. With "Footsteps," you can see how much of the world you've explored and which locations you've visited, based on the Snaps saved in your Memories. While some users might find this feature exciting for keeping track of their adventures, others may have concerns about privacy.

What Is the New Feature Snapchat Is Working On?

The new feature, called "Footsteps," allows users to see where they've travelled by displaying their movements on the Snap Map. It creates a visual representation of your travel history, showing how much of your city or country you've explored. For example, the app could show you that you've explored 30 per cent of your city or 5 per cent of Paris if you visited there over the summer.

Initially, the feature uses past Snaps saved in your Memories to build your travel history. After that, it will track your location in real-time, using location data to update your footsteps. This means that Snapchat will no longer rely on your Snaps to generate travel details but will instead use real-time location tracking. However, if Ghost Mode is activated (a setting that hides your location from friends), Snapchat won't be able to track your movements.

How Will Footsteps Work?

Footsteps work by combining your location data and your saved Snaps. The app takes note of where you've been based on the Snaps you saved and updates this with real-time location data as you travel. To use the feature, Ghost Mode must be turned off, allowing Snapchat to access your location. However, this information is private and will only be visible to you.

You can choose to share your travels with friends by creating a custom sticker that showcases your adventures. The app also lets you turn the feature off or clear your Footsteps data if you decide you no longer want to use it. You can do this by going into the app's settings under the "Map" section, where you can either turn off Footsteps or clear your travel history.

Does It Breach Users' Privacy?

While the idea of tracking your travel history may raise concerns, Snapchat has made efforts to protect users' privacy. Footsteps are only visible to you, meaning that no one else can see where you've been unless you choose to share it. Additionally, you have full control over the feature, with the ability to turn it off or delete your travel data at any time. This gives users a sense of security, knowing that their location history won't be stored permanently unless they want it to be.

Though Snapchat collects location data, the company has ensured that users can manage their privacy settings. However, some users may still be uncomfortable with the app tracking their real-time location, even if the data is only visible to them. Whether it breaches privacy depends on personal preferences and how much control users feel they have over their own data.

Snapchat’s new Footsteps feature tracks your location history

Snapchat is quietly rolling out a new “Footsteps” feature to all iOS users this week, the company confirmed to TechCrunch on Monday. The new feature, which was previously only available to Snapchat+ subscribers, uses Snap Map to let you see how much of the world you’ve explored and track where you’ve traveled to.

The first time you use Footsteps, your first steps will be based on Snaps in your Memories, which means that your past trips still count. After that, Snapchat won’t use any more Memories to add to your Footsteps, and will instead track your travels using location data.

Snapchat can only populate your Footsteps if you don’t have Ghost Mode on, which is a setting that prevents Snapchat from showing your location to your friends.

The new feature comes as Snapchat continues to compete with Instagram and TikTok. By building out its Snap Map product, the company is strengthening one of its key differences from its competitors, both of which don’t offer a similar feature (that might change, as Instagram has confirmed it’s developing a “Friends Map” feature).

snapchat travel history

With this new feature, Snap Map will tell you how many countries you have traveled to, and how much of an area you have explored. For instance, the app might display that you have explored 30.4% of your city. Or, if you traveled to a new country over the summer, the app might tell you that you explored 5% of Paris.

These percentages are based on the different places where you took and saved Snaps. It’s worth noting that the percentages will only be accurate if you’re an avid user of the app and often save Snaps because they are based on your saved Memories.

Going forward, the Map will use location data to show you actual Footsteps on the Map based on where you travel to.

Your Footsteps are only visible to you, and you can turn the feature off or clear your Footsteps data by going into your Profile and tapping the “Settings” button. Next, you need to scroll down to the “Account Actions” section and tap “Map.” Then, toggle off “Save new Footsteps as my location updates on the map” to turn off Footsteps. To clear your Footsteps data, tap “Clear Footsteps History.”

The feature is somewhat similar to Google Maps’ “Timeline” feature that tracks trips you’ve taken and places you’ve been based on your Location History.

Snapchat sees the new feature as a way to track your travels and also share your adventures with your friends with a custom sticker that showcases your travels.

A spokesperson for the company told TechCrunch that the company plans to roll out the feature to Android users soon.

Snapchat’s map now helps you keep track of where you’ve been

It will also generate personalized recommendations..

Snapchat is updating its in-app map to help users keep track of places they’ve visited, and where they may want to go next. An update rolling out today adds a new “Places” section to the map, with educated sections for recommendations, locations you’ve visited and “favorites” to remember.

The idea is similar to Foursquare (the original check-in based iteration), except “checking in” in this case consists of tagging a specific location in a Snap. Places you’ve tagged are automatically saved in your “visited” tab, but you can also manually add establishments to your “favorites” list. Interestingly, Snap is also using the new feature to generate recommendations. The “popular” section of the map will surface a list of personalized suggestions based on places you’ve been and what’s popular in your area.

Though the Snap Map has been around for years the company has been working to make it more useful — and more visible — within the app. The company gave the feature more prominent placement in a redesign last year, and plans to add Map Layers , a feature that allows third-parties like Ticketmaster to incorporate events and other content directly into the map.

Snapchat Unveils New Location History Feature: What It Is and How It Works

Snapchat Unveils New Location History Feature: What It Is and How It Works

News Synopsis

Snapchat is introducing a new feature called "Footsteps" to its iOS users, with plans to extend it to Android users soon, as reported by TechCrunch. This feature was previously exclusive to Snapchat+ subscribers but is now being rolled out to a broader audience. "Footsteps" allows users to track their travel history using the Snap Map, offering a visual representation of where they’ve been. While this feature may appeal to those who want to keep track of their travels and adventures, it also raises concerns regarding privacy and location tracking.

What is the "Footsteps" Feature?

The "Footsteps" feature is designed to allow Snapchat users to see where they’ve traveled by displaying their movements on the Snap Map. This visual representation shows how much of the world, a country, or even a city the user has explored. For instance, the app could reveal that you’ve covered 30% of your city or 5% of Paris if you visited the city over the summer.

At its core, the feature builds your travel history using Snaps that are saved in your Memories. It first utilizes this historical data to create a map of your travels. As you continue using the app, it will begin to track your real-time location and update your travel history accordingly. This feature not only reflects where you’ve been but also adds a sense of adventure, showing you the percentage of places you’ve explored.

How Does "Footsteps" Work?

"Footsteps" combines your saved Snaps and your location data to create a detailed travel history on the Snap Map. Initially, the app relies on past Snaps saved in your Memories to determine where you’ve been. Once enabled, the feature will begin to use real-time location data to update your movements on the map.

To access and use the "Footsteps" feature, Snapchat’s Ghost Mode must be turned off. Ghost Mode is a privacy setting that hides your location from friends and the Snap Map. When turned on, Snapchat cannot track your movements, and the "Footsteps" feature won’t work. Once Ghost Mode is disabled, the app can track your movements, but this information remains private and only visible to you.

This feature not only lets users track their travel history but also gives them the option to share their adventures with friends. Snapchat allows users to create custom stickers displaying where they’ve been. These stickers can be shared in Snaps or Stories, giving a fun and creative way to show off your travels. If you don’t want to use "Footsteps" anymore, Snapchat provides an option to either turn it off or delete your travel history from the app’s settings under the "Map" section.

Privacy Concerns: Does "Footsteps" Breach Users' Privacy?

With the introduction of "Footsteps," privacy concerns are an understandable issue for many users. Tracking location history can raise red flags, especially for those wary of apps collecting and storing personal data. However, Snapchat has taken steps to ensure that users retain control over their privacy with this new feature.

One key privacy safeguard is that "Footsteps" are only visible to the user. No one else can see your location history unless you actively choose to share it with friends. This ensures that your travel data remains private, giving users control over how and with whom they share their information. Snapchat also allows users to turn off the "Footsteps" feature entirely or clear their travel history whenever they want, further boosting control over personal data.

Despite these privacy measures, some users may still be uneasy about real-time location tracking. Even though Snapchat promises that the data is private and visible only to the user, the idea of the app continuously tracking your location might not sit well with everyone. Privacy is subjective, and while some may feel secure with the safeguards Snapchat offers, others may remain uncomfortable with the app tracking their every move.

How Snapchat Handles Location Data

Although "Footsteps" relies on tracking user location, Snapchat has given users full control over their data. For instance, the Ghost Mode feature lets users hide their location from the Snap Map and their friends. If enabled, Snapchat won’t collect location data for travel history, providing an extra layer of privacy.

Additionally, Snapchat’s settings give users control over when and how their location is shared. You can choose to turn the feature on or off depending on your preference, and the data is not stored permanently unless you choose to keep it. Snapchat’s approach to location data is flexible, allowing users to customize their privacy settings in a way that suits them.

While Snapchat does collect location data for this feature, the company has been transparent about the process and has given users options to manage their privacy settings. This is crucial for users who might not want to share their location or store a travel history but still enjoy using other features of the app.

Snapchat's "Footsteps" feature is a unique addition that allows users to track their travel history in a fun and interactive way. By combining location data and saved Snaps, users can see how much of the world they’ve explored and share their adventures with friends through custom stickers. However, as with any feature that tracks real-time location, privacy concerns are inevitable.

Snapchat has taken significant steps to ensure that users have control over their data. The travel history is private, only visible to the user unless shared, and the feature can be turned off at any time. While some users may still have reservations about real-time location tracking, Snapchat’s flexibility in privacy settings provides reassurance for those concerned about data security.

Ultimately, whether to use "Footsteps" depends on individual preferences. For those who love tracking their travels and sharing their experiences, this feature could be an exciting addition to Snapchat. However, for users more concerned about privacy, Snapchat's robust settings allow them to disable location tracking, offering a balance between functionality and security.

Snapchat’s Snap Map gets personal with “Footsteps” travel tracker

GEEK STAFF

Snapchat is taking its Snap Map to the next level with “Footsteps,” a new feature that tracks your location history and showcases your explorations. Initially exclusive to Snapchat+ subscribers, this intriguing feature is now making its way to all iOS users, with Android support expected soon.

Footsteps leverages Snap Map data, including past Snaps and real-time location tracking (when Ghost Mode is off), to create a personalized travelogue of your adventures. It calculates the percentage of areas you’ve explored, from your local city to countries you’ve visited, offering a unique glimpse into your globetrotting or staycationing escapades.

While Footsteps primarily draws data from saved Snaps, it will transition to using live location data for future tracking. This shift ensures accuracy and reflects your ongoing journeys, even if you don’t actively snap every moment.

snapchat travel history

Privacy remains a key consideration, with Footsteps visible only to you. Additionally, you can easily disable the feature or erase your travel history via the app’s settings. This level of control aligns with growing user awareness and demand for data privacy.

The feature adds another layer of personalization and engagement to Snap Map, distinguishing it from competitors like Instagram and TikTok. Footsteps also serves as a digital memento of your travels, allowing you to reflect on past adventures and even share highlights with friends through custom stickers.

As Snapchat continues to innovate, Footsteps underscores the app’s evolution beyond ephemeral messaging. It’s a nod to our desire to document and celebrate our experiences, even in the digital realm. Whether you’re an avid traveler or an urban explorer, Footsteps offers a new way to visualize and appreciate your journey.

Snapchat Now Offers Footsteps To Know Your Location History: Here's How

  • Trending Desk

Snapchat is adding the new location history feature for users based on your travel and places you visited.

The new location history tool works similar to Google Maps

Snapchat has quietly rolled out a new feature for all iOS users. Known as ‘Footsteps,’ the feature allows users to track their location history and let them see how much of the world they’ve exploded.

The feature, which was earlier exclusive to Snapchat+ subscribers, uses Snap Map to monitor the users’ travel activity and builds on past memories to map out their journeys. But, there’s a catch — it will only work when Ghost Mode, which hides the user’s location, is turned off.

For first-time users of Snapchat Footsteps, your initial steps will be based on your Memories, meaning your past trips will still count. After this, the app will stop using Memories to update your Footsteps and will begin tracking your journeys based on location data.

The feature allows you to see how many countries you've visited and how much of an area you’ve explored. For example, the app might show that you've covered 40 percent of your hometown. Or, if you travelled to Dubai on holiday, it could indicate that you've explored 5 percent of the city.

Note that these percentages will only be correct if you're an ardent user of the app and often save Snaps, as the Footsteps are based on your saved Memories.

How to activate Snapchat Footsteps

– To activate Footsteps on your device, go to the Snap Map tab and then click on ‘OK’ on the Footsteps pop-up.

– Users can also turn off the feature and clear the Footsteps data by going into the Accounts Action tab under the Settings option.

– Click on the Map tab and Toggle off ‘Save new Footsteps as my location updates on the map’ to turn-off Footsteps.

– To clear your data, click on ‘Clear Footsteps History’.

Snapchat’s new feature resembles Google Maps’ Timeline feature that keeps track of the journeys you've taken and the places you've visited using your Location History.

The feature is reportedly available for Snapchat on iOS version 13.9.0.40.

  • Snapchat's new feature, 'Footsteps', allows users to track their travel history, offering insights like the percentage of a city or country they've explored based on their saved Snaps.
  • The feature, aimed at enhancing the Snap Map product, respects user privacy as only the user can view their Footsteps and can choose to turn off the feature or delete their data.
  • This move is seen as Snapchat's strategy to compete with rivals like Instagram and TikTok.

Snapchat's new 'Footsteps' feature lets you track your travel history

Snapchat's new 'Footsteps' feature lets you track your travel history

Snapchat has rolled out a cool new feature called "Footsteps," letting users keep tabs on their location history. The company confirmed this feature is now available for all iOS users, as per TechCrunch . Originally just for Snapchat+ subscribers, Footsteps now uses Snap Map to help everyone track their global adventures and travel history.

A unique blend of memories and location data

When you first use Footsteps, it'll pull info from Snaps in your Memories. This way, all your past trips are included in your travel history. But after that, any updates to Footsteps will only use location data, not your Memories. Also, the feature can only update your Footsteps if Ghost Mode is turned off. Ghost Mode is a setting that keeps your location hidden from your friends on Snapchat.

Snapchat's competitive edge with Footsteps

Snapchat's new Footsteps feature is its latest attempt to stay in the game against rivals like Instagram and TikTok . The company is looking to boost its Snap Map product, which is something its competitors haven't really matched yet. But hold on, Instagram's already announced plans for a similar "Friends Map" feature, so things could get interesting.

It offers detailed exploration insights

The Footsteps feature gives users a closer look at their travel adventures. It can reveal how many countries you've hit up and how much of a place you've actually explored. For instance, it might tell you that you've checked out 30.4% of your city or 5% of Paris during a summer getaway. These percentages come from the spots where you've taken and saved Snaps in your Memories.

Footsteps: A user-controlled feature with privacy settings

The Footsteps feature is all about keeping your privacy intact. Only you can see your Footsteps, and if you want, you can turn off the feature or delete your Footsteps data altogether. Just head to your Profile and Settings, then tweak your preferences under "Account Actions" by tapping "Map." And good news for Android users: the company plans to roll out this feature to you soon.

From there, you can see where you are right now or look for a particular place or event. The "Popular" section of the Map will show you a list of suggestions based on the places you've been and what's popular in your area.

Did you know that Snapchat lets you delete your favorite places? Our guide will show you how to clear out your top Snapchat location history .

Step 1: Tap your profile image in the upper left corner of the screen.

Step 2: Now, click the gear icon in the top right of the screen and tap Account Action.

Step 3 : Click Places and then clear the top locations.

clear location

You can find out where someone is and what they are doing by tracking their Snapchat location, a helpful tool if you worry about their safety. (Check our previous guide on how to share live locations with friends on Snapchat .)

You should find someone on Snapchat for a good reason. Maybe your friend was supposed to meet you, but they got lost. Or you may be interested in events photographed by the public.

Find yourself on the Snap Map; the first thing you should do so that you can see how far your friends are from you.

To do this, you must ensure that Snapchat can find your location in your phone's settings. This will give you access to the Snap Map's features. Once this function is on, you can use Snapchat's Ghost Mode to look around.

If you never activated Snapchat's location history before, do the following:

  • Go to the page for your profile in the Snapchat app.
  • Then the gear icon in the top-right corner of your profile.
  • Click Settings and then "See My Location."

You might find that Ghost Mode is already on under "See My Location." When you switch off Ghost Mode, Snapchat will ask you what privacy settings you want:

My Friends : You can be seen by your friends.

My Friends, Except : Most friends can see you, but you can block certain ones.

Only These Friends : Only a small group of hand-picked friends can see you.

ghost mode

Now that you've set your location on Snapchat, go to your camera and click " Map " and " Friends ." If you have friends who live close by and have their location turned on, you can see them on the Map. Tap the search bar option at the top of the Snap Map to look for your friend's location. Put their username in. Then, Snapchat will list all the people with that name.

find friends

Snapchat social media app has become popular among young people because it lets anyone share photos. Snapchat also has a service called Snap Map that lets you see where people are when they send you a Snapchat.

The Snap Map is an interactive tool that lets you see where you are, where your friends are, and where events are happening on a world grid. At its start, it made people worry about safety. But there are many great ways to use and benefit from this feature.

Its goal was to connect users and find things to do in their area.

Is Snap Map safe?

Safety with Snap Map depends on your usage. Snap Map is set to "Ghost Mode" by default, meaning no one can see where you are. If you choose to share your location, you can share it with certain friends or groups. You can also choose to tell all your friends where you are.

However, Snap Map could be a problem for your privacy because it lets other people see where you are. Knowing this and controlling who can see your location using privacy settings is essential. Also, be careful about telling people you don't know well about your site.

In general, you should always be careful about your online privacy and think carefully about the information you share online.

Everything a parent needs to know about Snapchat

You can check your child's Snapchat usage in a few ways to keep them safe:

Talk to your kid about how to stay safe online : Talk to your kid about online safety openly and honestly. Explain the risks of sharing personal information, like where they live, and talk about how to stay safe online.

Use a monitoring tool . Many monitoring tools let you monitor what your child is doing on Snapchat. You can use these tools to find out whom your child is talking to and what they are posting.

Keep the communication lines open: Encourage your child to talk to you about anything that worries or confuses them about what they do online. Make sure they know they can come to you if they need help or advice.

Set up parental controls . Snapchat lets you set limits on your child's account and block certain features, like Snap Map, with parental controls. Go to Snapchat's website and sign in to access these controls with your child's account.

It's important to remember that you should only watch your child's Snapchat with their permission and in a way that doesn't invade their privacy. Also, give your child clear rules and have open, honest talks about what they do online.

Yes! You can find out where someone is using Snapchat. You only need their login name and password. Once you have that, you can log into their account and watch their snaps without them knowing. You can also set up a geo-fence to let you know when they leave a certain area.

  • Why is it so important to know where your loved one is?

There are multiple reasons why it can be essential to know where a loved one is.

  • For example, you should know where they are if you want to meet up with them or are worried about their safety.
  • In case of an emergency, knowing where a loved one is can also help you get in touch with them or find them if you need to.

Note: It's important to remember that you should always respect others' privacy. It's not okay to track someone's location without their permission or knowledge, as this can invade their privacy and make it hard for them to trust you. If you're worried about a loved one's safety or health, you should talk to them openly and honestly and think of other ways to help and protect them.

Hence, in this article, we showed how to check someone's location history on Snapchat and share it with all friends, certain friends, or temporarily with any friend. This is easy to do with Snapchat's built-in settings and Snap Map. Also, we discussed FamiSafe, so you can keep your kids in check while figuring out their location history on Snapchat .

Snapchat launching new feature to track location history: Know what it is and how it works

Snapchat is rolling out a new feature called "Footsteps" to iOS users, with plans to extend it to Android users soon, according to a report by TechCrunch. This feature, previously only available to Snapchat+ subscribers, lets users track their travel history on the Snap Map. With "Footsteps," you can see how much of the world you've explored and which locations you’ve visited, based on the Snaps saved in your Memories. While some users might find this feature exciting for keeping track of their adventures, others may have concerns about privacy.

What Is the New Feature Snapchat Is Working On?

The new feature, called "Footsteps," allows users to see where they've travelled by displaying their movements on the Snap Map. It creates a visual representation of your travel history, showing how much of your city or country you’ve explored. For example, the app could show you that you’ve explored 30 per cent of your city or 5 per cent of Paris if you visited there over the summer.

Initially, the feature uses past Snaps saved in your Memories to build your travel history. After that, it will track your location in real-time, using location data to update your footsteps. This means that Snapchat will no longer rely on your Snaps to generate travel details but will instead use real-time location tracking. However, if Ghost Mode is activated (a setting that hides your location from friends), Snapchat won’t be able to track your movements.

How Will Footsteps Work?

Footsteps work by combining your location data and your saved Snaps. The app takes note of where you’ve been based on the Snaps you saved and updates this with real-time location data as you travel.

You can do this by going into the app’s settings under the “Map” section, where you can either turn off Footsteps or clear your travel history.

Does It Breach Users’ Privacy?

While the idea of tracking your travel history may raise concerns, Snapchat has made efforts to protect users’ privacy. Footsteps are only visible to you, meaning that no one else can see where you’ve been unless you choose to share it. Additionally, you have full control over the feature, with the ability to turn it off or delete your travel data at any time. This gives users a sense of security, knowing that their location history won’t be stored permanently unless they want it to be.

Though Snapchat collects location data, the company has ensured that users can manage their privacy settings. However, some users may still be uncomfortable with the app tracking their real-time location, even if the data is only visible to them. Whether it breaches privacy depends on personal preferences and how much control users feel they have over their own data.

Snapchat Launches 'Footsteps' Feature to Track Location History

snapchat travel history

October 1, 2024  – Snapchat has unveiled an exciting new feature called "Footsteps,"  enabling users to track their travel history on the Snap Map. Currently available for iOS users , the feature is expected to extend to Android users  soon, as reported by TechCrunch.

The "Footsteps" feature allows users to visualize their movements, showcasing how much of their city or country they have explored. For instance, it could reveal that a user has explored 30% of their city or 5% of Paris if they visited there over the summer. Initially, the feature compiles past Snaps saved in users’ Memories to create their travel history, but it will eventually update in real-time using location data to track users’ movements continuously.

To use "Footsteps," users must turn off Ghost Mode —a setting that hides location from friends—enabling Snapchat to access their real-time location. However, the information collected is private and visible only to the individual user.

In addition to tracking personal travel history, Snapchat allows users to share their adventures with friends by creating custom stickers that highlight their travels. If users choose to stop using the feature, they can easily turn it off or clear their travel history through the app’s settings in the “Map” section.

While many users may find the feature engaging for keeping track of their adventures, it also raises potential privacy concerns. Users are encouraged to consider how their location data is utilized and the implications of real-time tracking as Snapchat continues to enhance its social platform.

Why Travel Planning With Friends and Family Starts With Snapchat

Snapchat + Skift

Snapchat + Skift

November 7th, 2024 at 10:00 AM EST

As Gen Z and millennial travelers increase their travel spending, they’re turning to social media to discover, plan, and share life-changing travel. Snap’s native features and core principles support travelers across the trip life cycle while helping brands attract and convert these high-value consumers.

  • How are Gen Z and millennials reshaping the travel industry according to the article?
  • How have travel spending trends changed from 2019 to 2023?
  • How can travel brands engage with Gen Z and millennials on Snapchat?

Select a question above or ask something else

  • Gen Z and millennials prioritize travel experiences over material possessions, influencing spending habits and setting new travel trends.
  • Snapchat is a key platform for younger travelers to plan, discuss, and share their travel experiences due to its focus on messaging and authentic content.
  • Snapchat offers brands opportunities to connect with younger travelers through features like Sponsored Snaps, Promoted Places, and AR advertising.

The article discusses how Gen Z and millennials are prioritizing travel experiences, shaping new trends in the travel industry. Snapchat is highlighted as a preferred platform for planning and sharing travel experiences, thanks to its focus on messaging and real content. For travel brands, Snapchat provides opportunities to engage with these travelers through features like Sponsored Snaps, Promoted Places, and augmented reality advertising.

This sponsored content was created in collaboration with a Skift partner.

Even as travel demand overall ebbs and flows, Gen Z and millennials are making travel a top priority in their spending habits. Driven by a desire for experiences over material possessions, younger travelers are saving room in their discretionary income to explore new destinations, embrace different cultures, and create lasting memories they can share with family and friends. As a result, this segment is reshaping the travel landscape and setting new trends around travel planning.

According to Mastercard’s Travel Industry Trends Report, spending on experiences rose by 65 percent between 2019 and 2023 . A report by the Global Association for the Attractions Industry showed that 93 percent of travelers planned to visit attractions with the same or increased frequency in 2024 compared to 2023.

Skift spoke with Michelle LeFevere, travel industry lead at Snap Inc., about the young travelers shaping today’s travel industry trends, why they choose Snapchat to inspire, plan, and share their trips, and how brands can create meaningful connections with this powerful — and valuable — traveler segment.

Travel Remains a Priority for Younger Travelers

As Gen Z and millennials access increased earning power, travel is at the top of their spending wishlists . According to Skift Research, “travel and vacation” is one of the most prominent categories where this cohort plans to increase spending in the next year. Younger travelers are also spearheading the trend toward prioritizing experiences over objects: Nearly half of Gen Z and millennial Snapchat users rate travel experiences as “most important” when compared to material possessions.

“This generation places a high value on personal well-being, happiness, connection, and creating memories with family and friends,” LeFevere said. “They are passionate about travel and eager to explore the world. Even with the pressures of discretionary spending right now, over two-thirds of both Gen Z and millennial Snapchatters are planning to travel at least as much as they did over the last year.”

Why Snapchat Is Where Travel Planning Happens

It’s no surprise that younger travelers log in to Snapchat to plan upcoming trips with their closest circles. Over 86 percent of Snapchatters use the app before a trip, according to LeFevere. Because the app was originally designed as an alternative to popular social media, it prioritizes messaging with friends instead of scrolling through a feed. That makes Snapchat a no-pressure environment where Gen Z and millennials can have real conversations with friends and family.

“This generation is using Snapchat to discuss where to go next and what they’ll do with their closest crew,” LeFevere said. “Snapchat is the place where they discover, plan, and talk about where to travel next.”

The travel focus continues past the planning phase to the trip itself. Snapchat’s focus on social connection over social comparison helps Gen Z and millennial users feel comfortable sharing their most authentic moments on the app. Sixty-four percent of Gen Z and 55 percent of millennials frequently share their travel experiences on Snapchat.

Prioritizing real, unedited content, without all the filtering and polishing that dominates other platforms, has also helped influencer content succeed on the app. “Snapchat is one of the best platforms for creators to share their most authentic travel moments and form intimate connections with their fan base,” said LeFevere. “It’s a breath of fresh air not to have to share the perfect picture.”

How Travel Brands Can Join the Conversation

Snap also supports a number of features that encourage users to connect about travel before, during, and after an amazing trip. Stories, Memories, Messaging, and Snap Map are among younger travelers’ favorite ways to plan and discuss travel. To carry this momentum forward, Snap recently announced a series of paid advertising opportunities designed to help brands connect with this travel-obsessed segment at scale; Snap boasts 850 million monthly active users, and 90 percent of Gen Z and 75 percent of millennials use the app.

For example, the newly announced Sponsored Snaps will enable brands to engage customers with visual messaging sent in an authentic, natural format. “Snapchat is Gen Z and millennials’ preferred form of communication –– and brands are now invited to be part of the Chat inbox,” said LeFevere. Brands can also connect with the 350 million Snapchatters that use the Snap Map each month through Promoted Places, a new ad placement designed to increase incremental reach, visibility, and influence.

“It’s an exciting time on Snapchat as brands can now reach the Snapchat community across two of the most widely and frequently used parts of our service,” said LeFevere.

Beyond native features and sponsored content opportunities, Snapchat also equips travel advertisers with digital tools that influence consumer decision-making and drive bookings. For example, Snap has found that augmented reality (AR) and video advertising options in the platform’s Ad Product Suite are highly effective at driving ROI and meaningful brand engagement for the travel industry.

“Our AR & Video ad formats invite brands into our camera and content environments in an immersive, impactful way,” LeFevere said. “300 million Snapchatters use AR every day on Snapchat, and brands are leveraging this to help users plan where to go next, experience the adventures of travel, and truly ‘go before they go’ on a trip.”

As we head into 2025, it’s safe to assume that younger travelers will be at the heart of the newest trends wherever the travel industry goes next. Their mobile-first tendencies have already changed and shaped the industry in meaningful ways, which we can see in brands’ continued investment in offering travelers seamless digital experiences . And as they continue to lean on social media through the entire trip life cycle, from dreaming, planning, and booking to sharing their travels with their friends and family, Snap is dedicated to engaging younger travelers every step of the way.

“In the next year, Snapchat will continue to become a place for Snapchatters to discover, plan trips, and explore the world,” LeFevere said. “We’re excited to expand how we invite brands into the journey.”

Is Snapchat Save Your Reel History?

Snapchat image

Snapchat does not save your reel history by default.  Reels on Snapchat are meant to be temporary and disappear after a certain period of time.

This is one of the defining features of the platform, allowing users to share times that are meant to be fleeting.

However, Snapchat does give an option for users to save their own reels if they choose to do so.

When making a reel, users can tap on the download icon to save it to their device’s camera roll. This way, they can keep a personal copy of their reel history if wanted.

It’s important to note that saving someone else’s reels without their permission is not allowed by Snapchat and goes against their terms of service.

Respecting others’ privacy and consent is essential when using any social media platform.

  • Scroll down and look for the “Privacy” section. Tap on it to access privacy settings.
  •  Within privacy settings, locate and tap on the “Who Can…” option.
  •  Look for “View My Story” or a similar option that relates to viewing history and taps on it.
  • You will now see a list of options related to viewing history. Look for “My Friends” or a similar option that allows you to view your watch history with friends.

Please note that Snapchat’s interface may vary slightly depending on updates and device versions, but these steps should generally guide you in accessing your watch history within the app.

How To See Snapchat Video Call History?

Snapchat doesn’t have a built-in way to look at your past video calls. This means that you can’t see a list of your past video calls right in the app.

But if you want to keep track of your Snapchat video call records, there are other things you can try.

One choice is to look at the call logs on your phone. Depending on the operating system of your phone (iOS or Android), you may be able to find a record of your Snapchat video talks in the call history or dialer app.

This way will only show you the most basic details, like the call’s date, time, and length.

During your Snapchat video talks, you can also take screenshots or record screen videos. By taking pictures of these times, you can make a personal record of your Snapchat video call past.

But it’s important to be respectful of the other person’s privacy and get their permission before saving or sharing anything from the call.

Third-party apps or services that say they can give you access to your Snapchat video call records should be treated with care.

These may go against Snapchat’s terms of service and put your account’s safety and privacy at risk.

Even though there is no direct way to see your Snapchat video call history in the app itself, you can check your device’s call logs or make your own records by taking screenshots or making screen clips.

How To See Snapchat Spotlight History?

To see your Snapchat Spotlight history, follow these simple steps:

  •  Open the Snapchat app on your mobile device.
  •  Tap on the “Spotlight” icon located at the bottom of the screen.
  •  Once you are in the Spotlight section, scroll down to view a feed of videos that you have previously uploaded to Spotlight.
  •  You can tap on any video to watch it again and see its engagement metrics such as views, likes, and comments.

Please note that your Spotlight history will only show videos that you have uploaded to the feature.

It does not include videos from other users or content that you have viewed in Spotlight.

By accessing your Snapchat Spotlight history, you can keep track of your past uploads and monitor their performance.

This can be helpful for content creators who want to analyze their audience’s response and improve their future posts on this platform.

How To See Snapchat Conversation History?

To see your Snapchat conversation history, follow these steps:

  •  Open the Snapchat app on your device.
  •  Tap on the chat icon located at the bottom left corner of the screen to access your chats.
  •  In the chat list, locate the conversation for which you want to view the history.
  •  Tap on the person’s name or username to open the conversation.
  •  Once inside the conversation, scroll up through the messages to view past conversations and messages.

It’s important to note that Snapchat does not store your entire conversation history by default.

Messages are typically deleted after they have been viewed or after a certain period of time has passed.

However, you can manually save individual messages or entire conversations by pressing and holding on a message and selecting “Save” from the options that appear.

Additionally, if you have enabled chat backups in your Snapchat settings, you may be able to retrieve some of your conversation histories if you switch devices or reinstall the app.

To enable chat backups, go to Settings > Memories > Save Chats and make sure it is turned on.

Remember that respecting privacy is essential when using any messaging platform, so always obtain consent before saving or sharing any conversations with others.

1. Can I clear my watch history without losing all my saved content?

Yes, clearing your watch history won’t affect your saved snaps or chats.

2. Can I see the watch history of other Snapchat users?

No, you can only access your own watch history.

3. Do videos I’ve watched disappear from watch history after some time?

No, your watch history retains the record of content you’ve interacted with.

4. Can I access watch history on the web version of Snapchat?

As of now, watch history is only accessible through the mobile app.

5. Is there a limit to how much watch history can be stored?

While there’s no official limit, very old entries might eventually be removed as new ones are added.

Pakistan May Take India To Court Of Arbitration For Sport Over Champions Trophy Travel Refusal: Sources

Pakistan is likely to go to the court of arbitration for sport (cas) over india's refusal to travel for champions trophy 2025, according to sources..

Pakistan is likely to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over India's refusal to travel for Champions Trophy 2025, according to sources. There has been a lot of chatter surrounding Indian cricket team's potential participation in the competition as the two sides have not played a single bilateral series in more than a decade over political tensions. While Pakistan did travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, it still remains unclear whether India will travel to Pakistan in 2025 or not.

Media reports suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suggested a 'hybrid' theory to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) where India will play their matches in Dubai.

However, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi denied any such communication and stated that Pakistan remain adamant on the fact that no matches of the competition will be held outside the country.

Earlier, PTI reported that the BCCI has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that India will not be travelling to Pakistan for the competition.

"This is an ICC event and BCCI has informed the global body that it won't travel to Pakistan. It will depend on ICC to inform the host nation about the development and then close in on the scheduling of the tournament. The convention is to announce the schedule 100 days prior to the commencement of the event," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Naqvi, who is also a federal interior minister in current government said that if India doesn't come to Pakistan then he will have to consult his government for further directive. It is understandable that Dubai is the best location for India's matches as it has the highest capacity among three stadiums, an existing set-up already in place having organized the Women's T20 World Cup last month.
