T+L's Review of Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ Seven Seas Grandeur

Regent Seven Seas Cruises, voted one of Travel + Leisure readers' favorite midsize-ship ocean cruise lines in our 2023 World's Best Awards , is well-known for incredible service and an all-inclusive rate that includes everything from business-class flights to unlimited shore excursions. The luxury cruise line's sixth ship, the Seven Seas Grandeur, set sail for its inaugural season at the end of 2024. The ship was named one of T+L's best places to travel in 2024 , and I was on board the ship’s three-night christening sailing for a first look inside the stunning new vessel. 

It was clear from the moment my mom and I stepped on board that one of the ship’s greatest luxuries — beyond fine dining, a multimillion-dollar art collection, and gorgeous common areas — is space. With a maximum of 746 guests per sailing, Grandeur is a far cry from mega-ships where pool crowds and buffet lines are the norm. With spacious all-suite, all-balcony accommodations and intimate specialty restaurants, the ship felt lively but never crowded. Designed by Studio DADO, the ship's dazzling common areas are decorated with a 1,600-piece art collection including multiple Picassos and the first-ever Fabergé Egg to be permanently installed at sea. (Sarah Fabergé, founding member of The Fabergé Heritage Council and great-granddaughter of Peter Carl Fabergé, is the ship’s godmother.)

While cruises are often about the ports of call, the Seven Seas Grandeur — sibling ship to RSSC's Seven Seas Explorer and Seven Seas Splendor , is a destination in itself. In fact, although my mom and I were tempted by the unlimited included shore excursions at our port in the Bahamas, we opted to stay on board to experience every amenity the ship had to offer.

On Grandeur , 373 guest accommodations range from the entry-level Veranda Suites to the one-of-a-kind, 4,443-square-foot Regent Suite. Deluxe Veranda and Veranda Suites offer up to 361 square feet of space, outfitted with upscale finishes and, of course, their own balconies. I stayed in a Concierge Suite, of which there are 140 on board. With a super-comfortable Elite Slumber bed facing the balcony, a very spacious walk-in closet, and a bathroom with two sinks, a shower, and a separate tub, this suite offered plenty of storage and lots of room to spread out.

Besides the bright and open design in ocean-inspired hues of blue and cream, I loved the attention to detail in my suite, down to the field glasses sitting in the cabinet, ready to help you spot wildlife or faraway islands. The two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath Regent Suite, priced at $11,000 per night, offers spectacular amenities including its own hot tub, unlimited spa services offered in-suite, and private dining in a room hidden between two of the ship’s specialty restaurants. 

There are seven unique dining venues and several bars located throughout the ship, and specialty restaurants are included in the rate. Over 130 new dishes were added to the menus on Grandeur , and there are more than 200 plant-based options served across the ship for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Compass Rose, Regent’s signature restaurant, received a gorgeous transformation by Studio DADO for Grandeur ; behind a metal waterfall-like sculpture, guests will find an illuminated dining room that resembles a magical forest.

Prime 7 is the ship’s steakhouse, redesigned with influences from New York City’s classic 20th-century steakhouses. Chartreuse celebrates classic French cooking and glamour with a dining room inspired by the Parisian metro’s art nouveau stations and Coco Chanel’s designs. The entrance to Pacific Rim, a pan-Asian specialty restaurant serving sushi, dim sum, and more, is marked by an impressive bonsai cherry tree sculpture by Savoy Studios. 

La Veranda is the ship’s main buffet restaurant for breakfast and lunch; during our sailing, we enjoyed sushi, lobster, paella, salads, and a very delicious cronut during casual meals here. In the evening, La Veranda becomes Sette Mari at La Veranda, a table-service restaurant serving Italian food. If you want a classic cheeseburger, lobster nachos, or a Korean fried chicken sandwich — or even just a milkshake by the pool — the Pool Grill has you covered with relaxed al fresco eats. And the baristas at Coffee Connection are ready to make your espresso drinks just the way you like them. On our third day, the barista actually had my mom’s coffee ready as soon as she sat down — she didn’t even have to order, he just remembered how she liked it. 

Of course, if you’d rather take your meals in your beautiful suite, you can also enjoy included room service 24 hours a day. 

There are several bars and lounges on board, too: The Meridian Lounge, where you’ll find daily afternoon tea service (a personal favorite) and live entertainment in the evenings; the lively Grandeur Lounge located across from the casino; and the Observation Lounge, with incredible ocean views during the day and live piano at night. 

Where Regent Seven Seas Grandeur Sails 

Regent Seven Seas Grandeur will spend its nearly sold-out 2024 sailing the Caribbean, Central America, North America, and Europe; itineraries range from seven to 16 nights. This summer, a seven-night Mediterranean Sea cruise will visit ports in Italy, Malta, and Spain, for example.  Later in the season, a 10-night roundtrip cruise from Miami will include stops in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, St. Barts, Antigua, and the British Virgin Islands.

Regent includes unlimited shore excursions on every sailing so guests can take full advantage of what each port has to offer. On our cruise to Freeport, Bahamas, excursions included swimming with the pigs at a local beach, relaxing at a nearby resort, snorkeling, touring Grand Bahama Island on a Jeep safari, and more. You can find a list of shore excursions on the Regent website for each port before booking, and you can book them online starting at 365 days before your cruise if you booked a suite with concierge amenities or 300 days in advance without concierge benefits. While there are typically several free options for every port, Regent Choice Shore Excursions are also available for an additional charge.

Amenities and Entertainment 

With a turquoise pool surrounded by dozens of sun loungers, several hot tubs, outdoor sports courts, and a host of daily activities ranging from trivia to live entertainment, there’s plenty to do on board the Regent Seven Seas Grandeur . Starting at the top on Deck 12, a bocce court, pickleball court, shuffleboard, a golf net, and a putting green with holes inspired by famous golf courses around the world offer fun ways to soak in the ocean views on a sea day. The Observation Lounge, Card Room, Connoisseur Club, and Library (with countless travel books stocked so you can read all about your next destination) on Deck 11 are cozy spots to unwind. 

The Culinary Arts Kitchen — Regent’s cooking school at sea — is a gorgeous space where guests can learn how to make dishes inspired by the places they’re sailing to — without having to do any of the prep work or clean up. I took a class and learned how to make pasta al limone and crepes; I loved the hands-on instruction and picked up a few helpful tips to use when I cook at home.

The Serene Spa and Wellness section of the ship on Decks 5 and 6 includes a number of treatment rooms (including one with an amber and quartz bed), a gym with workout classes and fitness consultations, and a hydrothermal suite with a sauna, steam room, chill room, and experiential showers. There’s also an outdoor relaxation area with three whirlpools looking back over water; this was one of my favorite places to spend time admiring the ocean during our three-night cruise. 

Split between Decks 4 and 5 is the Constellation Theater, the main entertainment venue where guests can watch four Broadway-style shows. I was thoroughly entertained by the "Marauder’s Ball," a pirate adventure told through pop songs and classic swashbuckling tunes. Also on Deck 4, guests can shop around the boutiques, play slots or table games at the glitzy casino, or hang out in the Grandeur Lounge. 

Guests can also learn about some of the works in the ship’s 1,600-piece art collection through a digital art tour offered through the Regent app.

Family-friendly Offerings 

While not strictly an adults-only cruise line, Regent cruises are best for adults traveling without small children. The Club Mariner children’s program (for ages 5-17) is available on select sailings, but with many adult-focused spaces and entertainment, this ship is better suited for travelers without little ones. Under-16s are not allowed in the spa or fitness center. 

There are a couple of handicap-accessible suites available on Grandeur featuring roll-in showers and other accessible features. There are elevators and ramps located throughout the common areas on the ship; I saw several guests navigating the ship using various mobility devices during my voyage.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises is a luxury cruise line that offers all-inclusive sailings to some of the most desirable destinations in the world. The line is known for its exceptional service, spacious accommodations, and gourmet dining options.

Small-ship, luxury sailing

Regent Seven Seas Cruises operates six ships, each with its own unique style and personality. The fleet includes the Seven Seas Explorer, Seven Seas Mariner, Seven Seas Navigator, Seven Seas Grandeur, Seven Seas Splendor, and Seven Seas Voyager. All of the ships are designed with a focus on luxury and comfort, and offer a range of amenities and activities to suit every type of traveler. And, with a maximum passenger capacity from 490-750 guests, depending on the ship, you'll never feel crowded or have to wait in a line on a Regent Seven Seas sailing.

Limited spring break sailings in the Caribbean

As our apples-to-apples comparison, we looked at taking a week-long cruise in the Caribbean in March, booking about a year in advance. Regent Seven Seas only had one option, the Seven Seas Splendor, sailing from San Juan, PR to Miami, FL. We were given a starting fare of $5,099 per person on an itinerary including St. Barts, Antigua, St. Thomas, Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas.

Many extras included in your fare

While that fare may initially seem extraordinarily high compared with rival cruise lines' options, be aware that Regent Seven Seas includes many things in its fares that will be an extra (and sometimes surprise) charge elsewhere:

• 2-for-1 all-inclusive fares
• Free roundtrip air on domestic flights
• Free unlimited beverages, including fine wine and spirits
• Free open bars and lounges, plus in-suite mini-bar replenished every day
• Free prepaid gratuities
• Free specialty restaurants
• Free transfers between airport and ship
• Free unlimited WiFi
• Free valet laundry service
• Free one-night pre-cruise hotel package on concierge suites and above
• Free personal butler on penthouse suites and higher

Not a high-end online booking experience

At first, it feels like you can't book your Regent cruise outright through the cruise line's website: when you create an account or look at a sailing that interests you, it says that your information will be passed along to an agent. But, if you keep clicking through, filling out a form indicating the number of guests, your airport of choice, desired cabin, and so on, you will eventually reach the point where you can place a 7-day hold, pay the required booking deposit, or pay in full. You'll probably still be contacted by a Regent Seven Seas agent, to see if you have any questions or need to make any changes. The online booking process doesn't feel as luxurious as we'd expected - but then again, at this level of cruising, most travelers likely let the agent do the work from the get-go.

All dining options are part of your fare

Regent Seven Seas Cruises is known for its exceptional dining options. The line offers a range of gourmet restaurants, from classic steakhouse fare to Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. While some dining is open seating and others are reservation-required, all options are included as part of your fare.

Good selection of onboard activities

In addition to its fantastic dining options, Regent Seven Seas Cruises offers a variety of onboard activities and entertainment. Guests can enjoy everything from live music performances and Broadway-style shows to cooking demonstrations and wine tastings. The line also offers a range of wellness activities, including fitness classes and spa treatments.

Shore exclusions are included

Regent Seven Seas Cruises also offers a wide range of shore excursions, which are included in the cost of your cruise. These excursions are designed to provide guests with a unique and immersive experience in each destination. Cruising is a popular way of traveling for many people, offering a unique experience that combines the convenience of a floating hotel with the excitement of visiting multiple destinations in one trip. In an average year, over fifteen million people say "all aboard" and set sail on an amazing vacation.

There are many different cruise lines to choose from, and each one offers a different type of experience. Some are geared towards families, while others are more focused on luxury or adventure. What would you like to see and do while you're onboard? Is a casino a must-have or a rather-avoid? Would a Broadway-caliber show tip the scales for you? Do you need a wide range of activities to keep the kiddos happy while the adults live it up or relax? The onboard activities and amenities can really make or break your vacation, so be sure you know what you're getting.

Another factor that can influence which cruise line you choose is the itinerary. Cruise ships travel all over the world, but some cruise lines may not have destinations available where you're hoping to go. You should also consider the size of the ship: larger ships offer more amenities, but smaller ships can access ports that bigger ships can't.

Speaking of amenities, make sure you understand what you'll get as part of your fare and which extras will come with an additional cost. For example, most cruises offer drink packages for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, but a few have drink stations where you can get complimentary lemonade, coffee and tea. Other amenities that might be important to you are Wi-Fi, spa services, babysitting, fitness classes, and upgraded dining experiences. You can usually get a decent discount if you sign up for an amenities package before you sail, so keep an eye out for promotions in the months leading up to your sailing.

When you take a cruise, it's almost always expected that you'll tip the crew members who have attended to your needs while onboard: your cabin steward ( who probably leaves your towels folded into fun shapes every night ), your servers at your nightly meals, and the head waiter. Cruise lines have a recommended gratuity to cover all three of those staff members, usually $15-$20 per traveler, per day; the total gratuity amount may be charged automatically to your account, or you may be given envelopes to make cash payments.

While it usually isn't mandatory to pay those gratuities - you can ask to have them removed if they're applied automatically, especially if you've received poor service - it's typically considered in poor taste not to tip at the suggested levels (because crew members' salaries, much like servers at your local restaurant, are based on the expectation of tips paid by guests). And, if you receive service that goes above and beyond, adding to the recommended gratuity is always appreciated. Be aware that tips for bartenders, poolside servers, and professional services provided in the spa or elsewhere are not included in the daily suggested gratuity and may be charged automatically at the time of service.

Now that you have a good overview of the cruising experience, which cruise line should you choose? Beyond the points we already covered, here are a few additional criteria that might make it easier to pick:

• Embarkation port. You could get a great deal on a cruise, but what will it cost you to get to the port? That could involve airfare, an overnight stay or two in a nearby hotel (so that you're less likely to be affected by travel delays), and transportation from the airport or hotel to the port. This is especially true if you're taking a cruise that departs from an international destination.
• Perks for repeat cruisers. Like frequent flyer programs on airlines, most cruise lines offer benefits the more you sail. If you find yourself absolutely loving cruise vacations, it can be advantageous to put all of your eggs in one basket, so to speak. Rewards programs can include casino benefits, complimentary meals at the upgraded dining experiences, exclusive sail-away parties with free cocktails and tchotchkes, early-access booking on future cruises, and much more.
• Reputation. It's a really smart idea to see what other travelers have said about their overall experience with a cruise line before booking your trip. The ads on TV may make that private island look amazing, but someone who's been there might point out that you'll pay extra to get on that waterslide. Or, previous cruisers could tell you that despite having several formal nights on the schedule, a particular cruise line has no problem with people showing up to dinner in flip-flops and swimsuit coverups. Find out if the cruise line you're considering lines up in reality with what they advertise.

Before You Book

• A 15% deposit is required for all cruises. For cruises of 14 nights or fewer, final payment is due 120 days prior to departure. On longer cruises, the remaining balance is due 150 days before you sail. If you book fewer than 90 days before the ship is scheduled to depart, you'll have to pay in full within 24 hours of booking.
• Cruise cancellation fees vary depending on the length of the cruise and how far out you cancel. For more information, see the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Terms and Conditions page .
• Children younger than six months are not permitted on Regent cruises, and infants must be at least 1 year old to sail on a voyage with three or more consecutive days at sea. Guests younger than 18 years old must share a suite with a guest who is 18 or older. Pregnant women who reach 24 weeks at any time before or during the cruise will be denied boarding.

Before You Board

• You will receive cruise documents, including e-tickets, approximately 45 days prior to your ship's departure date.
• Ships begin boarding at noon on the scheduled day of departure. If you are traveling from a U.S. port, you must board at least two hours prior to sailing time; if you are leaving from a port outside the U.S., you must board at least 90 minutes prior to departure.
• Guests are required to bring the appropriate travel documents; passport, visa and vaccination requirements vary by itinerary. The cruise line requires all guests have passports that are valid for six months after the cruise ends, regardless of ports of call. For more information about entry requirements for various countries, visit the  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)  and World Health Organization websites.
• Passengers can book shore excursions up to 300 days before the start of their cruise (or up to 365 days in advance for guests eligible for the Concierge Amenities) by visiting Regent's My Account page . Dinner reservations can also be made through the My Account portal beginning 75 days before the ship's departure date (or 90 days before embarkation for travelers in Concierge Suites or higher). If you desire additional reservations, you may speak with the restaurant's maître d' once on board. Any dietary restrictions must be sent to Regent Seven Seas via email at least 120 days prior to departure for sailings embarking in the U.S. and 150 days before all other trips.
• Regent Seven Seas does not enforce weight, size or quantity restrictions for baggage. However, the cruise line suggests travelers check with their airline and pack accordingly.

All-suite and all-inclusive – the Explorer is up there with the world’s best cruise ships

The world of high-end cruising is no stranger to superlatives. Each new ship takes to the seas flanked by an armada of adjectives hailing the finest dining, glitziest entertainment and fanciest suites – but the Regent Seven Seas Explorer outdid them all. When she made her debut in 2016, she was proclaimed by her creators “the most luxurious cruise ship ever built”.

Six years later, how does the claim hold up? The facts and figures certainly provide some justification: the ship’s complement of 548 crew lavish their attention on the residents of just 373 suites – an enviable ratio even at the top end of the cruising market – and each cabin comes with a private balcony. The bathrooms are, collectively, clad in more than an acre of marble, more than 500 chandeliers adorn the ship’s ceilings and the walls are lined with 2,500 works of art, one of them an original Picasso.

Yet the opulence extends well beyond fixtures and furnishings. The food (see below) is impressive by any standards, and exceptional given the challenges and constraints of serving a large number of people at sea. But the real luxury is space. On a recent sailing from Athens to Istanbul, the ship felt roomy and relaxed, even with most cabins occupied. There’s a good reason for that, said Luxury Travel magazine: “Explorer has one of the highest space-to-passenger ratios in the industry.”

All that comes at a cost, of course. Later this year, Explorer will embark on a seven-night voyage from Canada to Alaska, for which the entry level price is £6,539 per person. That is, however, likely to be the full cost of your holiday: it includes return flights, full board, transfers between the airport and port, as many shore excursions as you wish – and even gratuities for the staff delivering five-star service in some of the world’s most inhospitable latitudes.

Even the smallest cabin on Seven Seas Explorer comes with a queen-sized bed, a separate living area with a sofa and desk, and an eight-square-metre private balcony. All the rooms are luxuriously appointed: thick carpets, marble surfaces and hardwood furnishings complete the five-star feel.

Ascending classes of suite add more space and more onboard privileges, all the way up to the spectacular regent suite. Four times the size of the average British home, it spans the top deck and offers panoramic views from its wraparound balconies. Facilities include an in-room spa with sauna, steam room and solarium – and a Steinway grand piano built specifically for the suite. Guests staying in what Regent describes as “the most luxurious address at sea” are treated to a private caviar service, a cocktail party for eight guests, a personal butler and guaranteed restaurant reservations.

Restaurants, bars and entertainment

Regent’s approach to dining sets it apart from many other cruise lines. With six restaurants, each offering a different a la carte dinner menu (as well as 24-hour room service), your only problem is likely to be food-related fomo. Three of the restaurants – the Pool Grill, the Italian themed Sette Mari and Compass Rose, which serves international classics – are open to all-comers. Reservations are required at the other three: the pan-Asian themed Pacific Rim, the opulent Prime 7 steakhouse and Chartreuse, where French favourites come with a modern twist.

The quality and variety of food on offer is remarkable, and all of it, including fine wines, are included in your fare. So too are drinks at any of the ship’s numerous bars, each of which has its own character. The glass-sided Observation Lounge, for example, is the ideal venue for a champagne cocktail at sunset, while the elegant Explorer Lounge lends itself to an after-dinner scotch.

Live music is laid on most evenings, not only in the bars but also the Constellation theatre, where the Regent Symphony Orchestra accompanies a variety of singalongs, musical revues and other performances. Karaoke night, another crowd-pleaser, takes place in one of the (well sound-proofed) lounges.

Excursions and activities

The programme of excursions depends, naturally, on where your cruise takes you, but whenever the ship is in port you will have a range of trips to choose from. Between Athens and Istanbul, tours included a guided visit to the archaeological site at Philippi, a small-boat trip to the uninhabited island of Rhenia and its picturesque beaches, and a river cruise down the Bosphorus, among many, many others. In Alaska, excursions include whale watching, glacier trekking, small-boat trips through fjords and sightseeing tours through mountains and forests. Private or small-group excursions are available at extra cost, as are helicopter and seaplane trips on some voyages, but the rest are included in the fare.

Practicalities

Regent Seven Seas Explorer will spend much of 2023 in Asia, Australasia and Alaska. The Tongass Exploration voyage, departing 6 September, will cruise from Vancouver to Seward over seven nights, with fares from £6,539 per person.

Review: regent seven seas cruises.

Our review after sailing with Regent Seven Seas Cruises aboard the Splendor.

Carol and I are sailing in the Straits of Florida, just above Cuba, as we make our way back to Miami, Florida.

For the last week, we’ve been sailing aboard the Seven Seas Splendor , where we made our way to Roatan, Honduras, Harvest Caye, Belize, Costa Maya, Mexico, Cozumel, Mexico, and now back to Florida.

Ordinarily, the Caribbean would not be on our top destination list. However, Miami’s proximity makes it an accessible destination for us to sample various cruise lines.

Cruise Industry News says the Caribbean is the world’s number one cruise destination, with a 36% market share. But if you zoom in on luxury travelers, the Caribbean captures only 18%, whereas Europe and Northern Europe dominate with a combined 43%.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises currently has five 5-star luxury ships sailing the oceans, with a 6th, the Regent Grandeur, making its debut later in 2023.

The Splendor is the second of Regent’s Explorer-class ships which Regent describes as the most luxurious ships ever built. If you take a few minutes to watch the above video, I’m confident you will find their claim justified.

The Splendor features 373 all-balcony suites ranging from 307 to 4,443 square feet. And, as Regent proudly proclaims, every luxury is included , from business-class round-trip international airline tickets to shore excursions, specialty restaurants, gratuities, laundry, all onboard alcohol, Wi-Fi, and more. In fact, it is pretty hard to spend a dime on a Regent cruise.

Once you board the ship, Regent promises an “unrivaled experience” with “every luxury included.”

Our Impressions

• The Ship – The Seven Seas Splendor holds a maximum of 746 passengers with 548 attentive crew members. It was rare to walk by any of the ship’s staff without a pleasant greeting. And those that you might have regular interaction with called you by name. We found the service to be impeccable and in keeping with what a luxury traveler would expect from a world-class travel brand. The ship was elegant with a dash of opulence, and I have nothing but high praise for the ship and its crew.
• The Suites – As I mentioned above, the Splendor is an all-balcony ship with suites ranging from 307 to 4,4443 sq. ft. We enjoyed a Concierge D Suite #728, with over 400 sq. ft. of space. We found our suite very comfortable, our bed faced the ocean, and we were surprised to see how ample the balcony space was. To view our initial walkthrough, please CLICK HERE .
• The Cuisine – Luxury cruise travelers have very high expectations regarding the cuisine available on a modern luxury cruise ship. They expect options, elegant surroundings, impeccable service, and food that will leave a profound memory for years to come. I am pleased to share that Regent has more than delivered in this department. Regent offers two main dining rooms: Compass Rose for sit-down dining and La Veranda for those who prefer a more casual buffet-style offering. For specialty restaurants, always complimentary with Regent, we enjoyed Chartruese for French cuisine, Prime 7 for steaks and seafood, Pacific Rim for Asian fare, and Sette Mari at La Veranda for Italian. For dining in your swimsuit, there was the Pool Grill. And for a quick snack, we enjoyed the Coffee Connection. While all of Regent’s specialty restaurants were outstanding, Pacific Rim was the favorite for Carol and me.

My wife and I are just on the board this great ship departed from Athens Oct 30 till Nov 6. It is really amazing ship with excellent service, accommodations and exvisit food.

Just got off 21 day itinerary Earth Fire ICE. Cruise director Drew was fantastic, engaged and on top of all activities, shows stimulating, fitness room adequate and clean, spa satisfactory/. Pila was a delight, kind, professional and very skilled in giving a massage. I received four of them. Other staff that stood out included Florida/Angie in Pacific Rim, Deepak butler for our 650 cabin along with housekeeping Maria and Deepu. Gabriel in Prime 7 was very pleasant and kind. The band was spectacular in their talent and ability to play so many different genres of music, they were in addition friendly and very pleasant people, they conveyed enjoyment as they played so it was not just a job. Speakers Javier Corrales and the Mr Rivelino were VERY knowledgeable about the topics presented, not only in the content but in their delivery style. The bar staff in the Meridian Lounge super friendly, kind and respectful. The IT representative was user friendly and knowledable. One negative comment: Gyn does not have a bathroom (toilet) close by one has to go downstairs to the toilet in the spa downstairs , it was out of order frequently having to travel far to use bathroom if needed in the middle of a workout. Overall the experience was very memorable, passengers interacted and were stimulated by the cruise director with enthusiasm. I can tell the difference from other cruises where the cruise director behaved differently.

I stayed in a $780-per-night cruise stateroom on a new ultra-luxury ship. I now understand why wealthy travelers like cruises.

• I spent three nights in  Regent Seven Seas Cruises' new luxurious Seven Seas Grandeur ship.
• My concierge suite had a bathtub, a large balcony, a swivel TV, and a surprisingly small walk-in closet.
• In 2024, this stateroom starts at $5,455 per person for a seven-night cruise.

If I had $5,500 to spare, I might not spend it on a luxury cruise , but after a few nights aboard a particularly nice ship, I can now see the appeal to some people.

For those people who are much more enthusiastic cruisers than I am, I might have just found your next luxury vacation: the concierge suite aboard Regent Seven Seas Cruises' new Seven Seas Grandeur. Let me take you aboard my high-end experience.

In December, I spent three nights in this plush 332-square-foot cabin, complete with a large bathtub, a larger balcony, and an even larger living room.

The cruise line hosted me on the new Seven Seas Grandeur during its three-night non-revenue "christening" sailing.

While I can't afford this on my own, I now understand why wealthy travelers are willing to shell out $780 per night for a vacation in this suite.

However, I did have some issues with the floating hotel room. But before we get there, let's see how the cruise line can charge so much for a floating room.

While this wasn’t my first luxury cruise rodeo, this Regent cabin is the most expensive I’ve ever stayed in.

I previously spent one night in premium cruise line Oceania Vista's veranda stateroom and Explora I's ocean terrace suite. The latter, owned by MSC Group, is a newcomer to the luxury cruise industry .

Cruise ship cabins aren’t known for being massive.

But at 322 square-feet with an additional 83- to 132-square-foot balcony, this cabin is one of the largest I've stayed in.

The suite is divided into five spaces: the bathroom, walk-in closet, bed, living room, and balcony.

The balcony was shockingly large, enough to accommodate two lounge chairs and a small table without feeling cramped.

Back inside, two curtains could be extended to separate the adjacent living room from the bed.

Unlike most cruise cabins, the king bed faced the windows instead of another wall, making the bed "room" feel more spacious than usual.

The living room had the typical furnishings of a luxury suite: a couch, coffee table, and television.

The television, which could swivel to face the bed, was mounted on a console-like bar equipped with drawers, glassware, and a small plate of fruit.

Personal beverage stations are commonplace in premium cruise cabins.

This one came with an Illy-stocked espresso machine, a mini-refrigerator with sodas, and bottles of drinking water.

While I won’t complain about having extra space, this living room seemed almost too big.

The center of the room was left open and furniture-less.

Besides appreciating it, I had no idea what to do with this extra space.

The desk was then located next to the couch, separated by the curtain and a small wall.

This tabletop extended down the hall and served as my dumping ground for grab-and-go items like my phone and camera.

Where the living room excelled in extra space, the walk-in closet disappointingly didn’t.

Drawers, shelves, and several rows of hangers lined this narrow room.

To my surprise, my less expensive ocean terrace suite on the Explora I had a wider walk-in closet than this.

However, the combination of this closet and the drawers in the living room still made for one of the most storage-equipped cabins I’ve ever seen.

I could've moved my entire wardrobe into this closet and still have space to spare. Just don't ask me to stand in there for too long — it's a bit claustrophobia-inducing.

The bathroom was then located around the corner from the closet.

The marble and stone detailing made it feel as plush as a bathroom I'd expect in a five-star hotel.

This thin space was full of uncommon cruise bathroom amenities like a full bathtub and spacious walk-in shower.

Unexpected luxuries like the double vanity, bathtub, and multiple towel hangers made this one of the most luxurious bathrooms I've had both at sea and on land.

"Unexpected luxuries" just about summarizes how I feel about the Grandeur's concierge suite.

The attention to detail — like the reading light-lined couch, swivel TV, and fresh fruit plate — were all small but wonderful additions.

While I didn't touch the latter, I did find a few strawberry leaves in my bathroom after housecleaning came by. At least the fruits weren't going to waste, right?

But at its lofty price, it’s hard to overlook issues like the incredibly narrow walk-in closet.

It seemed the designers prioritized the large living room over a comfortable closet, a fair choice.

And in terms of the interior design, the room looked more dated than it did new.

If you had told me that this ship was a few years old, I would have believed you.

I prefer trendier contemporary designs.

But the grey and tan color scheme with muddy blue accents looked more like a high-end but old hotel than a sleek and modern ship.

However, I’m far from Regent Seven Seas’ target age or income — as in I’m young and not a member of the elite 1% club.

In 2024, the concierge suite starts at $5,455 per person for a seven-night December cruise roundtrip from Miami, Florida to Mexico, Belize, and Honduras.

This price then ranges up to $20,200 for the 14-night roundtrip cruise in April from Barcelona, Spain to France, Monaco, Italy, Malta, and other Spanish cities.

A starting price of $780 per night may seem high. However, context matters.

Regent Seven Seas is all-inclusive. No need to pay extra for excursions, flights to and from the ship, and unlimited drinks and food.

With that, maybe some wealthy travelers — especially those who prioritize convenience and luxury — could find this hefty price worth it.

And in terms of amenities, it's hard to top a cabin like this.

Other luxury cruise lines also offer plush comforts like a chilled welcome bottle of champagne and espresso machines.

But I've never had amenities like a double vanity or bathtub in a cruise cabin before.

As someone who sometimes doesn’t enjoy cruise ships or their often cramped cabins, even I was impressed.

If I, a public cruise skeptic, was convinced by these little luxuries, I'm sure any other cruise cynic would be as well.

I likely won't be sailing board this expensive ship again, but you might want to.

If it's within your budget, this could be a good option. The small walk-in closet left me a little claustrophobic, and I didn't love the somewhat dated interior design.

But that could probably be overlooked — especially given the other luxuries, like that huge balcony.

And I'm sure you'll agree after lounging in a warm bubble bath in the suite's marble-lined bathroom.

Our Regent Cruise ship was delayed one…

Our Regent Cruise ship was delayed one day because of mechanical issues, which caused us to miss two ports and tours. Regent didn’t compensate adequately, We spent the first day waiting for a bus to transfer us, only to wait again for 3 hours for the ship to arrive, but Regent was gracious enough to give us bottled water and potato chips. After all it’s a luxury cruise line! I cannot recommend Regent to anyone.

DO NOT GO ON REGENT!! We are frequent cruise people. The Regent Seven Seas Splendor cruise of the Caribbean for 10 days was awful. Worst ever cruise. 1) Had three good restaurants but limited capacity to handle 700 people. The overflow place to eat at, Rosa Restaurant, where most people had to eat was like an old person cafeteria, 2) the cruise had 2 days at sea, the entertainment on board, was Bingo, Cross Stich, and Puzzles -- no joke ! 3) the excursion activities very bad, we did the catamaran sail for $90 upcharge each, and went out and no sail, just motoring around and food was awful and playing the song YMCA the whole time ! 4) there were bus rides involved, no bathrooms on the bus, a problem for a lot of the older people, 5) the men’s spa was filthy, 5) we had a major problem with an incorrect charge on our bill, no one could change it on the ship, said we need to work with guest relations in Miami, the captain said he could do nothing. I could go on about other issues. Needless to say. The worst cruise we have been on and we DEFININTELY WILL NEVER GO ON ANOTHER REGENT CRUISE! NO-WAY !!

a £20,000 cruise runs worse than MSC…

a £20,000 cruise runs worse than MSC Cruises poor quality food , waiting 20 minutes to be served for a drink , Old ship RSSC Navigator , Rude staff, on 1st day in Lam Cha Bang Thailand port i asked for a Bottle of Stella but they have run out LOL, Scrambled egg at breakfast like rubber where its been sitting under heat lamps, Couldn't go to Compass Rose restaurant first day as there was a private function ??? any juices on board are badly watered down .tghis is our second and last regent cruise .Voyager our last cruise was brilliant .

Sad to say goodbye

We have travelled with Regent SSC on a number of previous occasions and have always enjoyed every minute. However during our recent trip around New Zealand and Australia we decided to book another package to Japan in 2025. It was then we became aware of the additional benefit that was being offered to our American cousins, namely "FREE BUSINESS CLASS FLIGHTS." When we queried why us British passengers were not offered this benefit we were told well its not really free it is a marketing ploy which would not be allowed in the UK under current UK marketing legislation. So my American friends be aware, be very aware when words like free are used to promote a Regent SSC product. As for us, Regent are a lost cause we have even returned our loyalty pins so they can use them as FREE gifts for their next generation of punters. we in the meantime are looking at alternative companies with whom we can spend our money, and yes, there are several in the market. I would add though that the ships staff we came across were extremely helpful and very friendly. Finally the correspondence with Regent in the UK with their office in Southampton was in my view second rate, they have not even bothered to thank me for returning our loyalty pins.

My cruise from Dubai to Athens end of…

My cruise from Dubai to Athens end of April 24 , was eventually cancelled, only after Regent insisting on the full amount being paid despite the war making it obvious the cruise was not going to happen ! This has now been refunded , I hope regent enjoyed the benefits of having all my cash and no doubt the other passengers cash invested despite the obvious knowledge that the cruise was never going to happen . No apology from Regent.No future cruise incentive. Basically No customer service - unlike competitors who when things get cancelled are keen to keep your trade . Goodbye Regent ……

Waitlisted on several excursions for nearly a year

Paid for cabin with priority booking for excursions - have been waitlisted for nearly a year on 4 excursions with no progres despite regular follow ups by our travel agent. Not sure why we paid extra for priority for excursions when we can’t get on them! Regent please help as have no other means of getting help on this. Interesting that unlike some other tour operators Regent don’t seem to reply or show any interest in addressing any of their reviews here. Speaks volumes…

Not a good start

Our first foray into cruising so took advice to get what I understood to be a Tier 1 cruise line - who provide “unlimited shore excursions”. I now learn (after putting a deposit down) that not only do I have to book these shore trips as part of a crowd rush 10 months n advance, but also have come to understand that in one location on a ten night cruise, there is only one “free” excursion and the wait list is closed. That, my friends, is not Tier 1 to me - very much praying that things improve!! They may not be seeing me again! It is also concerning that Regent clearly do not respond to comments/criticisms on Trustpilot - that is not a customer centric organisation that are concerned about reputation.

We were also booked Istanbul to Dubai. Other comments describe the itinerary changes which we think completely gutted the original cruise itinerary. And why ? We were told that it was for safety considerations. Really ? What made Rhodes (an original port) unsafe ? Or Santorini? Etc. If Luxor is unsafe for two days, why is it safe for one day ? And why is it safe to cruise around in the Red Sea for 6 uninterrupted days ? No refund given; No credit offered; No response to two letters. One star is too many.

Recent trip itinerary changed at last…

Recent trip itinerary changed at last minute which has negatively effected the overall wanted experience. Last minute change which takes us to ports not desired. Furthermore, certain ports are in locations that are being impacted by the Isreali conflict/war thereby putting us in harms way. Regent indicated no refunds, no future cruise credits. On the hook for $25K+ Poor customer service

RS Slendor Caribbean Cruise Feb / March…

RS Slendor Caribbean Cruise Feb / March 2024 The check in at the Hilton Hotel in Barbados was chaotic. This was the hotel booked by Regent. It took 95 minutes standing in a queue, in hot weather, to check in. The check in process then took about 15 minyes as all information was entered manually on paper. The rooms were OK but not up to the expected Hilton nor Regent booked hotels standard. The docking at a lot of ports necessitated a long walk from the ship to the buses. My disabled wife had to cancel several of her booked tours because that distance was too far for her to walk in the heat. On one occasion, we witnessed a man almost collapse on the walk to the bus and when I spoke to him in the terminal, he said he had to sit for a time to recover and would then try and walk back to the bus, forgetting about his booked tour. I and my wife appreciated the care and attention given to my wife in the Compass Rose restaurant each evening. We had the same table, waitress and sommelier the whole time. Although my diet sheet said mashed potatoes and such like only, as with my cancer I had difficulty in swallowing we quickly came to an agreement on the small amount that I could eat. My only “gripe” was that it always consisted of mashed potato only, never mashed potato and cheese pie, or mashed potato and corned beef hash. I shall email Regent before my next cruise in May 2024 to the Rocky Mountain train and the Alaska cruise to mention that additional ingredients mashed in with the potato would be very acceptable. Like wise with my cruise in November from Barcelona to Miami. On most past Regent cruises our cabin steward has been very helpful. This steward performed his duties well, but there was little dialogue between us. With respect due to him, though, when we asked for something ,it was done.

Worst ever cruise.

We scale Japan with Seven Seas Explorer. Service was poor from beginning to end in almost all departments. Particularly bad was the 2 hr wait to be picked up and taken to our hotel from the airport. Food variable with long waits and tepid offerings Excursions excruciatingly poor. Massively overpriced. Avoid this line and I would advise cancel any booked trip.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises spoils environment

This morning Regent Seven Seas Cruises came with their ship Mariner in to Port Cartagena. The ship emits a noice of 60 dBA and spoil with that the environment of the people on the yachts in the marina. For the clients on board it must also be nuisance.We know that other ships are able to reach much lower dBA. And then we didn’t talk yet about the engines not complying with newest exhaust emissionLevels. They cause smelly exhaust fumes.

I have been cruising for 40 years…

I have been cruising for 40 years primarily on expensive lines such as Windstar, Seaborn and Crystal. I was very excited to try Regent. What a disappointment! The food was arguably ok. I was expecting it to fantastic. In discussing with other passengers that were underwhelmed we collectively came to the conclusion that the line just does not have a personality. Beyond that I had a very unfortunate issue in the casino where they took tax money that was not due to them. I on a number of occasions proved to them they were wrong by showing them the actual tax code. I brought this to many people on the ship including the Captain. They would not deal with it and told me I had to deal with it off the ship with headquarters. I tried that route and they totally blew me off. So in conclusion, very underwhelming particularly when you look at the value to cost. Customer service dealing with an issue I give them a big fat F One and done for this cruiser!

Wait staff was wonderful, management not.

Service by the staff in general was great. However, the ship was worn, constant cancellations of tours last minute without proper notification. All last minute fill ins were disappointing and bottom of the barrel. My first Regent Cruise, almost every frequent cruiser was disappointed and will consider Silver Seas. When a consultant called me to review my trip, I explained my disappointment, and he referred me to another number. I explained if I was dissatisfied, the cruise line should call me. No call was received..

expected better

not yet taken a cruise with this company. unfortunately we had to change our plans because of personal situations. amazed that they were not prepared to let us change our cruise and pass the deposit to another more convenient cruise. totally intransigent. so beware if booking with these people well in advance of your cruise - it appears that customer satisfaction doesn't matter!

Don't book if you could become pregnant

My wife and I booked a cruise and she later became pregnant. Regent refuses to allow her to embark since she will be 24 weeks pregnant. They also refuse to provide a refund or any kind of travel credits for a future cruise. We even bought travel insurance. It is shameful behavior that unfortunately will likely end up in small claims court. I would be very careful before dealing with this company.

All take no give service

All take no give service, from officers in particular. Not an appropriate/enjoyable travel option for the sick, vulnerable, elderly or for any decent, appreciative human being as a paying customer. Not worth your money. Research and avoid like the plague. So many more beautiful options out there with more to offer. Staff aren't happy either and do thir best to accommodate under the circumstances, poor, unsafe, non caring leader-ship.

Very happy Regent Guests

After reading some of the comments I felt obligated to write a review. My husband and I have sailed with Regent for the past 10 years clocking up 12 cruises between all their ships. We have had excellent experiences. The crew, the comfort and service are all top class. Exciting excursions all included and many we would not have dared to do on our own but with Regent’s umbrella over us we felt secure. Our last cruise around the Caribbean on the beautiful Splendor was brilliant! Their older ships are still luxurious and have a welcoming ambiance. They occasionally need some tlc which is only to be expected. Any problems we have encountered have been dealt with quickly and by polite helpful crew. I would not hesitate to recommend this cruise line the only thing I would suggest is that you book directly with Regent as dealing with their own cruise consultants is so much easier than going through an agent.

Outstanding Staff, Service, Food and Accommodation

Excellent cruise line. Superb service, great food, excellent staff, accommodation and it truly is all inclusive unlike others where the additional charges are excessive for a 6 star cruise. We have now cruised three times with RSS and are planning on booking our next cruise with RSS. I’d highly recommend RSS to anyone.
