It can be sensory overload at times, but it’s well worth your time and money to get yourself to Morocco. I fell in love with it as soon as I arrived .

It’s not always easy to get around this country of 37 million people. For new travelers, Morocco’s up-close and personal nature can be a challenge. The country is a battery on your senses and, for those without a lot of travel experience, that can be overwhelming , which is why jumping on an organized tour might be one of the best ways to see it for the first time.

I myself went on a group tour in Morocco a number of years ago, and it was a blast and a great primer. If you’d like to travel in Morocco but are apprehensive at all (or simply want someone else to do all the organizing and guiding!), there a number of great travel companies that can take you around to all the greatest sites of this fantastic nation.

Here are some of the best tour companies in Morocco to help you plan your trip:

1. Intrepid

It’s always been my favorite multiday, small-group tour operator out there, and I always have an incredible time on its tours. I really love the guides, off-the-beaten-track itineraries, and commitment to the local community.

Intrepid also is environmentally friendly, uses local guides and transportation, and doesn’t rush the tours. The tours get a good mix of young and older travelers and balance being both fun and educational. You learn a lot without it feeling boring!

2. Culture Morocco Tours

This operator offers tours from various cities in Morocco. So, if you’re based in, say, Marrakech or Fes or Tangier or Casablanca, you can jump on a two-day or weeklong tour of another part of the country. There are also tours lasting up to 30 days, so chances are there’s an itinerary that suits your needs.

The company also offers private tours. While that might not be as cheap, you’ll be able to plan the trip exactly as you see fit. This is a great option for independent travelers who want the flexibility of designing their own excursion but the comfort and safety of going with a company.

3. Nomadic Tours

This company has been leading travelers around the sand dunes, narrow streets, medinas, and mosques of Morocco for close to two decades. One nice thing about Nomadic Tours is that it will never cancel the tour if enough people don’t sign up. Just two people? The tour is still on! It also doesn’t charge you a single supplement if you’re solo.

The company offers the usual highlight tours, but also ones aimed at teen travelers, families, and hikers (for example, there’s an 11-day trekking trip with Berbers in the Atlas Mountains). There are a dozen on offer, ranging from 5 to 15 days, using local guides.

4. Mountain Bike Morocco

This company only does bike tours: road bikes, mountain bikes, and e-bikes. Most are moderately challenging, so you’ll need to be in decent shape. However, you don’t need to be a professional cyclist — beginners are welcome!

Pedal through valleys in the mountains and stop in remote Berber villages to chat with the locals. Or do a nine-day bike excursion from the fabled Atlas Mountains to the coast. It also offers several single-day tours in case you just want to add in a day of biking to your existing itinerary. These day trips are easy or mildly difficult and suitable for beginners too.

5. TBA Escapes

This morning you will visit one of the most impressive sites in Casablanca – the mighty Mosque of Hassan II. Second only in size to the great mosque at Mecca, the huge building sits partly on land and partly over sea and is one of the only religious sites here that’s open to non-Muslims. Later, leave Casablanca and drive to Meknes, where you’ll explore the charming streets of the medina – the old walled section of the city. There’s something particularly special about exploring this lesser-known medina as the locals go about their daily lives. Drive on to the mosaic-filled Roman ruins of Volubilis, where a local guide will show you around and help you imagine the bustling city that once was. Enjoy a picnic lunch of fresh bread, cheese and seasonal fruits and olives from the market. In the late afternoon, continue to Fes, your home for the next two nights.

Passing historic khans, dye-pits and stalls loaded with fragrant herbs and spices, with the squawk of chickens and sounds of copper craftsmen at work filling the air, it’s easy to imagine yourself back in the Middle Ages. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the medina at a tranquil family-owned tea house before exploring more of the old city with a visit to the ornate inner courtyards of centuries-old Islamic school El-Attarine Madrasa and Funduq al-Najjarin, a splendid 18th-century inn. Prepare for a treat this evening as you are warmly welcomed into the home-turned-restaurant of a local family for a pastilla dinner in a private after-hours experience. Today you’ll head out onto the water, hopping in a small boat to see more of the turquoise lake and surrounding rocky gorges. Float over the soothing waters and take in the views. You’ll stop to enjoy a refreshing lunch at a shady spot overlooking the lake before heading back to the hotel. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish – lounge by the infinity pool, hike the surrounding mountain trails or treat yourself to a rejuvenating massage or jacuzzi session at the health spa.

Today you will travel from Bin el-Ouidane to Marrakech. There’s no rush as the scenery on the way is always interesting, and you will enjoy a stop en route at the impressive Ouzoud Falls. On arrival in Marrakech, head to the great square of Djemaa el-Fna, one of the largest public spaces in the world and the city's most iconic landmark. Enjoy an orientation tour with your Trip Leader to get to know this vibrant city. As day turns into night, the square transforms into a hive of activity. The evening is yours to explore. Perhaps opt for dinner on one of the restaurant balconies overlooking the humming square with views of the Koutoubia Mosque.

After breakfast today, meet your local guide and set off on a morning tour of the old medina, through the bustling souks that are the lifeblood of the city. Explore tranquil courtyards filled with the scent of orange blossom and the many salons and chambers that make up Bahia Palace. Stop by the Koutoubia Mosque; the inside is for Muslims only, but the famous minaret is a sight to behold. Then walk back through the streets of the old medina to Djemaa el-Fna. The food here is best experienced like a local, so be sure to bring your appetite as your local guide will take you for a special tasting session where you’ll try a range of seasonal delights such as freshly squeezed orange juice and fried Moroccan donuts. The rest of the day is free to explore further. Perhaps visit Le Jardin Secret, a traditional medina garden with a magnificent courtyard, or head back into the medina and practice your haggling skills. For your final evening, perhaps join your group for a farewell dinner – your leader will be able to recommend some fantastic local restaurants that are worth raising a toast to.

We felt extremely safe and he was super knowledgeable and we learnt so much about the Moroccan culture. All the hotels were great that were included in the tour. We saw this beautiful country from one city to the next changing every time we opened our eyes, Morocco is so beautiful and each city has so much to offer. Morocco is truely a gem. We did a 5-day tour by Cultural Moricco Tours. We visited places including Casablanca, Rabat , Chefchaouen, Fes, Sahara and other many beautiful places, we really have an amazing experience that we will never forget. What I like most about this tour is that we get to learn and experience the real Morocco culture by locals. The hotels and riads they chose for us were the best ( esp the riads! It was a huge surprise to see what’s behind the wall of an ordinary alley.. the Riads were so beautiful and amazing. We had an fantastic trip. Our guide in the Atlas, was reliable, positive, kind and knew the mountains very well. He suggested the track and calculated the walking time based on our health and possibilities. Only an excellent guide can calculate that good as he did. Our second guide, Hassan, made the food. And what food! It was cery tadty and beautifylly decorated. We all missed his food the rest of the trip, even we hot good food every places. We stayed in different accommodation units, some were simple cabins in the mountains, others were lovely hotels or apartments, the common thing was that they were all clean and we felt safe. Since we moved every day, logistics was important. Here, too, we were pleasantly surprised, because everything worked. Good timing. Good drivers. During the time, we got to experience the varierity of Morrocco from the seaside to the mountains, to the desert and the cities. We are very well pleased, and highly recommand our guide and the trip.

There are so many reasons to give this tour a 5-star. To start with, the tour was planned for 19th March 2019 before the covid apocalypse. Anuar our tour operator moved it for 2 years without charging 1 extra penny. The most important reason would however be that it was so well planned without even a tiny bit of inconvenience to us. We are a family of 4, we travelled 5 cities in 7 days and it was absolutely fabulously planned and operated by Marrakech tour. It was a deep cultural trip planned meticulously in a way we could have never known to do ourselves. There were hidden gems and riads in the most remote most beautiful parts of Morocco. Its like Anuar read into our minds on what we really wanted. Anuar is the most kind and understanding operator, he even made last-minute changes to suit our and our families' nagging demands. We had a private tour from Casablanca to Marrakech through the Sahara dessert. The scenery through the dessert and the Atlas mountains was absolutely stunning! The stay at the Berber tents was also a unique life experience, having the chance to sit under the stars and have a chat with one of the Berber people, about how their life was living as a nomad before becoming a tour guide, and how he learnt English. We were even lucky enough to see a shooting star! We very much thank Premium tours for hosting us and offered Khalid to take care of us ! He is such a genuine person! Highly educated ! We discussed every single thing about Morocco, what an open minded and educated person, knowledgable about Morocco and berber history and culture ! And I'm sure many other reviewers have also said this, but the guide for the tour will never take you to any souvenir shops, or any other places that you do not want to go. On arrival to Casablanca , Khalid was there to meet us at the airport! As soon as we started driving he started telling us many facts! We found him very informative and personable! Six of us had a wonderful trip in Morocco with our guide Abdellah and driver Jamal. Abdellah's war cry is "Africa!" and indeed he showed us all the unique parts of Morocco. We took the ferry from Algeciras Spain to Tangier, visited the beautiful Blue City Chefchaouen, the fable city of Fes, the famous sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, the must see Medina (old city) of Marrakesh, and the seaside retreat of Essaouira. The most memorable part of our trip was the camel rides into and out of the Sahara desert camp. We saw the most beautiful sunrise and have the photos to prove it!
