Country fans are going to need to start planning for 2024.

Luke Combs announced his plans on Tuesday for the Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour. The string of North American tour dates includes 25 shows across 13 U.S. cities, as well as one date in Canada.

The country music star, 33, will kick off the upcoming live dates in April 2024 in Milwaukee and eventually wrap up the shows in Houston in mid-August 2024.

All but one U.S. city tour stop will include two shows — one on Friday night and one on Saturday — and the set list is scheduled to change depending on the date. (There will only be one concert in his tour stops in University Park, Pennsylvania and Craven, Canada.)

The “Fast Car" cover singer will also be joined by a handful of special guests each night. On Fridays, Cody Jinks, The Avett Brothers, Charles Wesley Godwin, Hailey Whitters and The Wilder Blue will play, and on Saturday he will be joined by Jordan Davis , Mitchell Tenpenny , Drew Parker and Colby Acuff.

In a press release, the "Hurricane" artist shared his excitement about hitting the road. “We got an opportunity to do two shows in some U.S. markets on the World Tour, but when I found out we were going to be able to do two shows for most all of the cities on the 2024 tour, I decided I wanted each show to have their own unique set up of openers, as well as my own unique setlist. I thought this would give people an opportunity to come to both nights if they want, but see two completely different shows,” he said.

The CMA Award winner continued, “With Country music being such a wide genre and being a huge fan of it all myself, I wanted to open up my stage to acts that lean into Outlaw, Americana and Red Dirt on Friday nights, as well as having a night with people I have toured with in the past, who are more contemporary country. I’m super excited to have both groups be out on the road with me for the Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour!”

Luke Combs puts Milwaukee in the leadoff spot for 2024 tour

A man with a beard wearing a dark baseball cap and black short-sleeved shirt plays acoustic guitar while walking across the stage during a concert at a large arena.

A little more than a month ago, the Milwaukee Brewers released their schedule for next season, including the opening homestand April 2-7. With that out of the way, it seems they’ve turned their attention to music and today announced the first concert of 2024 at American Family Field: country superstar Luke Combs.

In fitting baseball fashion, Combs has opted for a doubleheader of sorts and will take over the Brewers’ home April 12 and 13. It’ll be his first time headlining in Milwaukee, having opened for Blake Shelton at Summerfest in 2018 and joining the Farm Aid lineup at Alpine Valley the following year. The shows will also — to continue the pained baseball metaphor — lead off Combs’ “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour,” a stadium-only run through the United States that wraps Aug. 10 in Houston.

And, just in case you thought the comparisons with America’s pastime were over, the lineup for the two nights at AmFam Field will get tantalizingly close to batting-order length, with eight total acts taking the stage. In addition to Combs, we also get openers Cody Jinks, Charles Wesley Godwin and The Wilder Blue on April 12; and Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Drew Parker and Colby Acuff on April 13.

Tickets for both shows go on sale next week in a variety of formats, including:

  • Platinum presale — Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m.
  • Two-day fan presale — Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m.
  • General verified fan presale — Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 10 p.m.
  • General sale — Friday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m.

You can find more information on the two-night event, including all the different ticket sales, on the Brewers’ website .

Luke Combs Unveils Double Stadium Shows on 2024 Tour

by Cillea Houghton August 15, 2023, 10:44 am

Luke Combs is continuing to expand his touring schedule. On Tuesday (August 15), Combs unveiled dates for his 2024 Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour which consists of 25 dates in 13 cities . From April through August, Combs will host two-night stays at stadiums in nearly all the cities where he’ll perform shows on Friday and Saturday nights.

Videos by American Songwriter

The shows will almost act as mini-festivals, as Combs is bringing several artists to perform with him each night. Hailey Whitters, Cody Jinks, The Avett Brothers, Charles Wesley Godwin and The Wilder Blue will open on Friday night, while Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Drew Parker and Colby Acuff will perform on Saturday night.

The tour kicks off on April 12 and 13 at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and concludes on August 9 and 10 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Along the way, they’ll make stops at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California; Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas; FedExField near Washington, D.C., and more.

Combs explains that while he originally planned to just extend the U.S. market on the 2023 World Tour into next year, he decided to revamp and do a new tour when he find out they could book double shows in several cities.

“I decided I wanted each show to have their own unique set up of openers, as well as my own unique setlist. I thought this would give people an opportunity to come to both nights if they want, but see two completely different shows,” he explains in a press release. “With country music being such a wide genre and being a huge fan of it all myself, I wanted to open up my stage to acts that lean into Outlaw, Americana and Red Dirt on Friday nights, as well as having a night with people I have toured with in the past, who are more contemporary country. I’m super excited to have both groups be out on the road with me for the Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour!” Tickets go on sale on August 25 at 10 a.m. local time.

"A supernatural song writer": Luke Combs praises Tracy Chapman as 'Fast Car' tops charts

Luke Combs is burning up the charts with Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car'

The performances add to yet another triumphant year for Combs, whose new version of Tracy Chapman’s Grammy-winning "Fast Car" has spent five consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. This is Combs’ 16th consecutive No. 1 single on country radio.

The song was recently certified double-platinum, has garnered over 435 million global streams and is No. 2 this week on Billboard’s Hot 100. "Fast Car" is the first song by a male solo artist to ever top both the Hot AC and Country Airplay charts.

Combs’ latest album, "Gettin' Old," is a companion to his acclaimed 2022 record, "Growin' Up." The New York Times praised the album as "grounded in country, complete with fiddle fills, but it’s also pointed toward a wide pop audience" while Billboard proclaimed, "His electrifying-yet-earthy voice soundtracking this time in his life as a husband, father and entertainer at the top of his game."

American Songwriter summed it up with, "He’s a rock star at this point."

Luke Combs Announces 2024 “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old” Tour

Luke Combs is already making plans for 2024, dropping news of the Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old tour early Tuesday. The tour will bring the country star to 13 cities with 25 shows planned and tickets on sale to the general public at the end of next week.

Tickets will go on sale to the public next Friday, August 25 at 10 AM local venue time. pic.twitter.com/GEXiuJ2A2b — Luke Combs 🎤 (@lukecombs) August 15, 2023

Combs is currently touring Australia and has dates in Europe and the UK in September and October before closing out the current year, but will be back on his home continent for this new tour, which kicks off in April with two shows at American Family Field in Milwaukee. It winds through the U.S. with stops including San Antonio (Alamodome), Phoenix (State Farm Stadium), Los Angeles (SoFi Stadium), and Washington (FedEx Field) before wrapping up at NRG Stadium in Houston Texas on August 9 and 10. The lone stop planned for north of the border (at least for now) is at Country Thunder in Saskatchewan on July 14.

Most cities on the tour have two stops planned, with shows on Friday and Saturday. For markets with two shows, there are separate setlists and openers planned, opening up the potential for two-night tickets being an attractive option, which will be on offer for interested fans. According to the tour poster, Friday shows will feature either Cody Jinks or The Avett Brothers, as well as Charles Wesley Godwin, Hailey Whitters, and The Wilder Blue. Saturday shows will feature Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Drew Parker, and Colby Acuff.

“When I found out we were going to be able to do two shows for most all of the cities on the 2024 tour, I decided I wanted each show to have their own unique set up of openers, as well as my own setlist,” reads an email sent to people on Combs’ email list announcing the tour. “I thought this would give people an opportunity to come to both nights if they want, but see two completely different shows. I can’t wait to see y’all on the road next year!”

Tickets to see Luke Combs on the Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old tour are on sale beginning on Wednesday, August 23 for members of the singer’s Bootleggers fan club, with presale registration open through Saturday, August 19. Those selected for that presale will also have the opportunity to purchase 2-day passes. Tickets will be on sale to the general public beginning on Friday, August 25.

Luke Combs Announces 2024 ‘Growin’ Up And Gettin’ Old’ Tour Featuring Cody Jinks, Charles Wesley Godwin & More

luke combs tour milwaukee 2024

Luke Combs is hitting the stadiums again next year.

He just announced his 2024 Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour , named for his 2022 and 2023 respective albums, which will hit 13 cities with 24 shows in total in even more stadiums across the country.

It will kick off in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in April, and run through August with a final stop in Houston, Texas. Each venue will have two shows, one on Friday and one on Saturday.

It’s essentially a continuation of his current stadium world tour, and I’m sure fans who didn’t get to see him in their home stadium on the North American run this year will be excited to know he’s coming soon.

And not only that, but Luke is bringing along some fantastic openers who will rotate on dates including Cody Jinks, Charles Wesley Godwin, The Avett Brothers, Hailey Whitters, Colby Acuff, The Wilder Blue and more.

Tickets for all shows go on sale next Friday, August 25th at 10AM local time:

Milwaukee County Parks ‘ annual traveling beer garden returns May 15 with a stop at Greenfield Park .

The traveling beer garden is a refurbished vintage firetruck rigged up as a rolling beer dispenser. It will stop at eight parks this summer, spending a little over a week at each park. Along with beer, the traveling beer garden also sells non-alcoholic beverages, hot dogs, hot pretzels and brats.

Kops Park , on the west side of Milwaukee, is a new addition to the traveling beer garden this year. It will effectively replace Lake Park on the schedule.

Last year, Milwaukee County Parks opened its newest permanent beer garden not too far from Lake Park in Juneau Park with space for 200 patrons. Juneau Park was previously one of the most popular stops on the traveling tour.

“There’s nothing like beer garden season in  Milwaukee   County !” County Executive David Crowley said in a statement announcing the schedule. “This unique tradition in our community brings people together, generates revenue for County  operations, and fosters positive activity in our  Milwaukee   County   Parks .”

The beer gardens have become money makers for the cash-poor parks system, generating millions in revenue annually.

The 2024 tour is sponsored by Glendale-based Sprecher Brewing. “The Traveling Beer Garden not only brings people together to enjoy craft brews and delicious food, but also serves as a platform for community engagement and connection,” said Sprecher CEO Sharad Chadha .

“I am ecstatic that we are kicking off our 11th year with Sprecher,” Parks Director Guy Smith said. “Their partnership with County   Parks  has not only impacted folks in the community but has also made our  parks a better place.”

It’s too bad the traveling beer garden isn’t making a stop at Lake Park this summer. I understand Juneau Park and Lake Park are relatively close to one another, but a separate stop at Lake Park would’ve been fun and probably not detrimental to Juneau Park. Oh well, at least there are lots of choices.

Reds 2024 season preview: Projected lineup, rotation and which young potential stars are ready to step up

The reds improved by 20 wins last season. can youth keep them moving in the right direction.

edlc-usatsi.png

After losing 100 games in 2022, the Reds were 21-29 heading to Memorial Day weekend last season. Then they won five in a row before four straight losses and went on a run to become the toast of baseball for a quick second, winning 15 of their next 17 games.

The 11-10 win over the Braves on June 23 was their 12th straight victory and gave the Reds a 1 1/2 game lead in the NL Central. A few weeks later, they headed to Milwaukee with a two-game lead over the Brewers . In two series wrapped around the All-Star break, the Brewers would beat the Reds in five of six games. The Reds still had a few ups and were in first place as late as Aug. 2, but the beginning of the turn for the worst was that six-gamer against the eventual division champs.

In all, though, the Reds improved by a whopping 20 games from 2022 to 2023 and they did so with an unusually large crop of rookies. Three players ( Matt McLain , Spencer Steer and Elly De La Cruz ) received Rookie of the Year votes while several other rookies ( Andrew Abbott and Christian Encarnacion-Strand chief among them) made major contributions.

In the offseason, the Reds added Jeimer Candelario to give them a veteran switch hitter in the middle of the order while also beefing up the rotation and bullpen with multiple signings.

They haven't made the playoffs in a full season since 2013 and haven't won the NL Central since 2012. They'll look to this group to snap those droughts. Further, they haven't advanced past a playoff round since 1995. That's the task facing this young core.

Win total projection, odds

  • 2023 record: 82-80 (third in NL Central)
  • 2024 SportsLine over/under win total: 80.5
  • World Series odds (via SportsLine): +5500

Projected lineup

  • Matt McLain, 2B
  • Elly De La Cruz, SS
  • Spencer Steer, LF
  • Jake Fraley , RF
  • Jeimer Candelario, 3B
  • Jonathan India , DH
  • Christian Encarnacion-Strand, 1B
  • Will Benson , CF
  • Tyler Stephenson , C

Outfielder TJ Friedl is unfortunately opening the season on the injured list due to a broken wrist. He'll be back and see plenty of playing time before we know it. Also, Noelvi Marte is suspended for 80 games due to a PED violation, but that still leaves a touch over half the season once he's back.

Projected rotation

  • RHP Frankie Montas
  • RHP Hunter Greene
  • RHP Graham Ashcraft
  • RHP Nick Martinez
  • LHP Andrew Abbott

Talented lefty Nick Lodolo is working his way back from a stress reaction. Assuming everyone above is healthy once he's ready for a return, it'll be interesting to see how they shuffle things, possibly with Martinez heading to the bullpen. Brandon Williamson is also in the mix here.

Projected bullpen

  • Closer: RHP Alexis Díaz
  • Setup: RHP Emilio Pagán, RHP Lucas Sims
  • Middle: RHP Fernando Cruz , RHP Buck Farmer , LHP Justin Wilson , RHP Tejay Antone
  • Long: LHP Brent Suter

Sam Moll and Ian Gibaut are injured right now but will see plenty of action.

How do the kids hold up?

The starting lineup has a ton of talent. Are they collectively ready for the grind of 162, though? Remember, most talented prospects on contending teams are surrounded by veterans who have succeeded in the majors before. Perhaps it's one of the reasons the Reds signed Candelario. There are a good number of very talented players with questions hanging over their heads, though.

  • McLain looks like a stud. He also only has 89 games of MLB experience and he's already banged up.
  • De La Cruz looks like an MVP sometimes. He's also only played in 98 games and hit .186/.284/.288 in his last 32.
  • Encarnacion-Strand has 63 MLB games under his belt.
  • Steer played a full season, but still just the one.
  • Benson still only has 390 career plate appearances. Friedl has only one full season and now he's hurt. Fraley has never been close to a full-time player.

Again, there's so much upside. The list of contending teams heading into a year with so many key players having so little MLB experience is incredibly short. It'll be fun to watch from the outside, but I suspect there will be a few more growing pains.

Breakout season for Greene leads rotation?

With a 5.43 starting pitcher ERA last season, only the A's and Rockies had statistically worse rotation work. That will almost certainly change in 2024 behind a developing ace.

Heading to his age-24 season, Greene has already battled several bouts of injury. He's also already made 46 big-league starts and has shown flashes of the ace-level ceiling that got him drafted second overall out of high school. He struck out 152 in 112 innings last season and he seems ready to break out as a star in 2024.

If he does, things fall nicely around him.

Montas has frontline starter ability and showed it as recently as the first half of 2022. Maybe the Sonny Gray route here is a good luck charm for the Reds (good in Oakland, bad for Yankees , freed from New York by Cincy)?

Abbott had a really nice rookie year. He was exceptional through 10 starts, though he only had a few bad ones all season. Ashcraft had a terrible run in parts of May and June last year, but fixed things down the stretch. He had a 2.58 ERA in his last 12 starts.

And, of course, there's the tease job that has been Lodolo so far. He only managed seven starts last season and was a mixed bag (two awful starts ruined his stat line, but there was also a 12-strikeout outing in Philly in which he threw seven scoreless innings).

The rose-colored glasses view of this rotation is Greene and Lodolo pitching like aces while Montas looks like he did in Oakland in 2021-22, Abbott parties like it's 2023 and Ashcraft throws like he did in his last 12 starts. That would be one of the better rotations in the league.

Regardless, they won 82 games last season with Luke Weaver taking 21 starts and Ben Lively getting 12. Things should be a lot more steady and less patchwork in 2024. With what looks like a quality bullpen, things are looking up for the Reds on the mound.

What would make for a successful season?

A 20-game leap in victories won't be happening again, but the Reds only missed the playoffs by two games last season and there are a good number of reasons to believe they'll be better, notably with the rotation. I suspect the offense will be inconsistent, but there will be weeks where they look like the most powerful group of hitters in baseball.

I don't think the Reds necessarily have to make the playoffs for this season to be a success, but they do need to see growth from at least half -- probably more like 75ish% -- of their young players to figure this one a success without the playoffs.

Then again, if the Reds see growth from an overwhelming majority of players like De La Cruz, McLain, Greene, Lodolo, Encarnacion-Strand, Marte (once off his suspension), Abbott, Ashcraft and Steer, they'll surely be a playoff team, right?

I think so. I'll say making the playoffs is the short answer, then.
